Larry D. Strawn  |1934-2022|

Larry D. Strawn, 87, of Hutchinson, passed away October 29, 2022, at Legend memory care facility in Hutchinson. Larry was born December 16, 1934, in Kinsley, to Lawrence O. and Eva T. (Cullen) Strawn.

He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1952, and upon graduation enlisted in the United States Navy. Larry served in the Navy for four years and was stationed in the Pacific aboard several destroyers, most notably the Theodore E. Chandler where he served as engine room chief.

While in the service Larry married Ruby L. Pedigo on May 27,1956, in Yuma, Arizona. After being honorably discharged, the couple returned to Hutchinson where they would make their home for the next 60 plus years. Larry was employed a number of jobs but most notably at Cessna/Eaton for 31 years.

Larry had always enjoyed participating in athletics. but upon retirement he found a new passion in the game of golf. For many years, Larry could be found teeing off at the same time each day at either Carey Park, Highlands, or Turkey Creek. Dedicated didn’t cover it as many years Larry would golf over 300 days a year and even made two holes in one! In addition to golf, Larry enjoyed showing horses in his younger days, square dancing, playing card games, playing ping pong and working jigsaw puzzles with his wife, Ruby.

Larry is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Ruby L. Strawn of Hutchinson; two daughters Cathy Emery (Ron) of Hutchinson and Karen Graber (John) of Branson, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Kyle Emery (Emily) of Wichita, Katie Yoder (Aaron) of Augusta, Molly Wilson (Mike) of Branson, Missouri,  Joni Thomas (Shane) of Springfield, Missouri, Kristy Graber of Plato, Missouri, Valerie McKinley (Nathan) of Branson, Missouri, and Annie Graber and fiancé Tyler Crnolatas of Branson, Missouri; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers Don Strawn (Sharon) of Hutchinson and Jim Strawn (Linda) of Hutchinson; and sister-in-law, Diana Strawn of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; a sister Joyce Herrell; and a brother Danny Strawn.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Kyle Emery officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard.  Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the Elliott Chapel.  Cremation has taken place.
