Lynda Sue Higdon, 65, passed away Monday, October 31, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center. She was born on March 2, 1957 in Pratt to Robert Agnew and Donna Simon. Lynda attended Pratt High School. She worked as a Certified Medication Aide at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Southwind Hospice and South Wind Home. She enjoyed reading, music, her weekly shopping escapade with Linda Hadley and Anna Brown, crafting, making jewelry, scary movies, painting and her cats. She is survived by her son, Greg (Liz) Higdon; grandson, Brayden Higdon all of Hutchinson; and brother, Steve (Cindy) Kerr of Mulvane. Lynda is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Mike Agnew. Lynda was a donor and gave the gift of life to several recipients. Cremation has taken place. Ralph U. (Skip) Nester, was born March 20, 1928, in Elkhart. He was the son of Ralph Jackson and Pauline Atkins Nester. 

Ralph moved to Hutchinson at an early age. He retired from Plumbing in 1990 and he was a plumber and A.C. man for the Stevens for 31 years and with Sturgeon for 10 years. He served 40 months in active duty in the South Pacific with the Navy and he also belonged to the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union #171 in Wichita. Ralph was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, #1361, Fraternal Order of the Eagle, #2550 and the Loyal Order of the Moose , #982.Ralph enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, sports and fishing and loved to travel. 

He was a good husband and father and loved having his 13 children and 46 grandchildren and 107 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren with him. Ralph married Madeline Brandt in 1944, Freeda Belt Wiseley in 1972 and Ella Nadine Nicker in 2003, who survives him. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, sons Dennis Nester, Robert Dieker, daughter Debbie Price and son-in-law Kerry Marsh. 

A memorial service will be Thursday, November 3, 2022, 10 am, at Wildmead Cemetery in Nickerson.&nbsp;

Jerry Eugene Roberts, 79, died October 29, 2022, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born March 23, 1943, in El Dorado, to Eldon and Tressa (Cummings), Roberts.

Jerry graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1961.&nbsp; He then worked for Republic Paperboard/Sonoco for 38 years, retiring in 2000.&nbsp; Jerry was a passionate Reserve Officer for the Hutchinson Police Department and the Reno County Sheriff’s office from 1973 to 1985.

In addition, he was an avid racquetball player and KU basketball fan.&nbsp; Jerry was a cycling enthusiast that participated in “Bike Across Kansas” yearly for close to a decade.&nbsp; He was a known animal lover and considered his pets to be family.&nbsp; Jerry’s favorite place to be was around a campfire, surrounded by friends and family.&nbsp; Above all, Jerry was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Jerry is survived by:&nbsp; his wife of 52 years, Nancy Roberts; daughters, Donita Perry (James) and Stephanie Roberts; son, J. Roberts; grandchildren, Bryant Roberts-Little, Brady Roberts (Amanda), Will Perry (Kalie), Baleigh Oakley, and Vaughan Roberts; great-granddaughter, Layney Roberts; sisters, Judy Voeltz, Kathy Yoder, Gayle Railsback, and JoLynne Seaton (Randy); sister-in-law, Kathy Roberts; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Donna Blevins was born on Kansas Day, January 29, 1927, to Fay M. and Nellie Catherine (Marshall) Hatcher, in Nickerson.

She was a 1945 graduate of Hutchinson High School. She worked at the Fox Theater as an usherette and at Montgomery Wards.

Donna met Bob Seefeldt at the Naval Air Base and later married on January 6, 1946. On December 23, 1946, Robert Allen was born. On April 19, 1950, Cathy Ann was born, and on May 27, 1956, Julie Kay was born. After raising her children, she went to work for Dr. Robert Shears, then worked at KTVH.

&nbsp;Mother and dad loved to dance and often went to the American Legion for steak night with friends. Donna never missed a Lawrence Welk show and loved all the reruns later in life.

On December 7, 1974, she married Kenneth Blevins in Manhattan. They then moved to Olathe, where she worked at Equitable Life Insurance and for 10 years never missed a day of work. Mother and Ken were owners of Olathe Floral where she was the bookkeeper, inventory manager, and with some family help, floral delivery service. Many Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day and other holidays I drove and she delivered dozens of arrangements. She was quite the gardener and loved her flowers.

Survivors include: daughter, Cathy and husband Larry; son in law, Terry Johnson; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; daughter, Julie Kay Smith Johnson; and son, Robert Allen Seefeldt and his wife, Christine Mae Seefeldt; brothers, Gwyn Hatcher and wife Marylou, and Merlyn Hatcher and wife Carole.

Mother did not want a service, but instead said “I’d rather everyone remember all the good times we had and don’t mourn me when I’m gone.” Cremation has taken place. &nbsp;

Wayne Allan Unruh, 77, peacefully passed away at his home in Hutchinson, on October 28, 2022, surrounded by his wife, Helen and children, Brad and Emily. He was born on July 23, 1945, in Newton, one of four children to Stella (Reimer) and Raymond Unruh.

Wayne positively touched the lives of everyone he met. While his family mourns the passing of their husband and father, his friends, refereeing buddies, business associates, First Team employees and many others also mourn the loss of this one-of-a-kind man. Wayne was loved by all who knew him. His genuine interest in others often led Wayne to&nbsp; become a trusted friend and mentor to many people. His friends spanned all ages. Wayne had a gentle, unique ability to improve any situation he encountered.

Growing up on the Unruh family farm in the Moundridge, KS area, Wayne had an adventurous childhood. &nbsp;He learned an unwavering work ethic at an early age.&nbsp; He worked for a local farmer, assisting with harvest efforts as far-reaching as western Kansas.&nbsp; The Unruh household was loving and joyous.

He attended a local elementary school and then Moundridge High School. At MHS, Wayne was an athlete who competed in football, basketball, and track. After high school, Wayne went to Bethel College where he once again stood out in athletics as a running back and linebacker on the Thresher football team. It was at Bethel College where Wayne met his future wife, Helen Graber.

On December 23, 1966, Wayne married Helen Graber in Pretty Prairie, Kansas. They celebrated 55 years of marriage. Two of the biggest blessings of their lives were the births of son, Brad and daughter, Emily. &nbsp;Helen and Wayne's circle of wonderful friends, close family, and contributions to their community stand as a testament to their lifelong partnership and love for each other. This partnership undoubtedly propelled Wayne's professional career.

Over a span of about 50 years, Wayne had a successful officiating career, having reached the highest levels of Collegiate basketball officiating. From his very early days of refereeing in country grade schools, and with the support of Helen, he advanced to regional high schools and then small colleges.&nbsp; Wayne's evolution into major college officiating commenced in 1969 when he joined the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. He joined the Big 8 Conference in 1978 and the Missouri Valley Conference in 1981. Additionally, Wayne earned his international FIBA license, leading him to officiate many major basketball tournaments throughout the world. He refereed tournaments in thirteen countries from 1978 to 2013.

A few of his notable basketball officiating accomplishments include: five post-season Big 8 tournaments; four post-season Missouri Valley Conference tournaments; four World University Games; and multiple US Olympic Team exhibition games.

Wayne was inducted into the Kansas Collegiate Officials Hall of Fame in 2015. He continued to serve on the Board of Directors of this organization until his recent passing.

Outside of basketball officiating, Wayne got his career start in education teaching at Sedgwick High School, Wellington High School, and Hutchinson High School. He was an assistant football coach at all three schools. In 1974, Wayne left education to become an administrative assistant with the National Junior College Athletic Association.

In 1996, Wayne and his business partner, Jeff Roth, started First Team Inc., in Hutchinson, KS. As with many small businesses, they persevered through humble beginnings, building First Team into a leading residential and institutional basketball equipment manufacturer in the United States. First Team continues to grow as they expand into new market segments outside of traditional basketball.

Civically, one of Wayne's favorite interests was the Rotary Club of Hutchinson. He became a member in 1999.&nbsp; Wayne embraced the Rotary principles, and the bi-weekly meetings were highlights for him. He served as Rotary president in 2014 and 2015. Wayne and Helen were co-chairs of the High Impact Club of the United Way of Reno County in 2018 and 2019, active in the Hutchinson Meals-on-Wheels program, and the First Presbyterian Church youth LOGOS program.

Wayne is survived by: his wife, Helen of Hutchinson; son, Brad and wife Erica of Las Vegas, NV and grandson, Lucas who attends college in Boston; daughter, Emily and husband Karl Hudson and granddaughter, Stella, of Brooklyn, NY; brother, Calvin and wife Marlene of McPherson; sisters, Maggie and husband Gary Davenport of Overland Park, Debbie and husband Terry Schmidt of Lawrence; in-laws, Mary and Mark Collins of Greely, CO.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; parents-in-law; sister-in-law; and niece.

Cremation has taken place. John Stuart Stephens died October 31, 2022, at the age of 87.&nbsp; He was born in Muskegon, MI, to John Logan Stephens and Viola Anderson Stephens.&nbsp; When John was 13, his father died.&nbsp; His mother moved John and his sister to Coffeyville.&nbsp; In junior high, he accidentally ran his arm through a glass door, severing tendons and nerves in his right arm.&nbsp; The arm was saved, but his hand never returned to normal usage.&nbsp; Despite this handicap, John achieved all-state status in football, basketball, and track.&nbsp; He attended the University of Missouri on a basketball scholarship and went on to receive a MBA from Missouri.

While in graduate school, John met his future wife, Peg Whitney Stephens.&nbsp; They were married August 26, 1962.&nbsp; John and Peg have two daughters, Ann W. Bush of Hutchinson and Catherine L. Stephens of Billings, MT.

After college, John went to work for Sinclair Oil Company, ending his career with them doing contractor sales.&nbsp; In 1974, he and Peg bought City Beverage Company, an Anheuser-Busch distributorship, from Jim and Vivian Peterie in Hutchinson.&nbsp; John had found his niche.&nbsp; He received pleasure in working with his customers, employees, and seeing the company grow from being housed in an air force base Quonset hut to a large climate-controlled warehouse complex.&nbsp; In 2002, John and Peg retired and the business was sold to Ann and Bob Bush.

John loved to travel with family and friends.&nbsp; There were numerous memorable trips to Crested Butte, CO, the Grand Canyon, and Chloride, NM&nbsp; All became the source of much laughter and family folklore.&nbsp; Although John wasn’t known for his patience, he enjoyed fishing, and organized several fishing trips to Canada and Alaska.&nbsp; Upon his return from those trips, John entertained his family, his Fraese Drug coffee group, and his bridge friends with many a humorous fishing tale.

John will be remembered as a man of integrity who loved his family and had little patience for electronics.&nbsp; He never learned to use a computer or a cell phone. John was a member of First Congregational Church, Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his parents; sister, Ruth Stephens Stevens; and son-in-law, Robert C. Bush.

John is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Peg; daughters, Ann Bush and Catherine Stephens (Jon Bushey); grandson, Jack C. Bush; niece, Elizabeth Ann Hansen (Mark) of Fairview, TX; and nephew, Paul Max Stevens (Cathy) of Mecosta, MI.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2022, at First Congregational Church, 3410 N. Plum, Hutchinson, KS, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be 3 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2022, in Fairview Cemetery, 2602 Woodland Avenue, Coffeyville.&nbsp;

Marjorie G. Thompson, 92, entered Heaven's gates on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.&nbsp;

On September 9, 1951 she married the love of her life Dale Thompson. To this union were two sons, George and Jeff.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is survived by her son George Thompson and his family - Rachel (Kyle) Nilsen and their children Aurora, Zoe and Ella; her son Jeff (Kelly) Thompson and their family Nic, Makayllie, Haydn(Ysa), and Grace and their children Auzae, Phenix, Haydn Jr and Genavieve.

She sang with the Sweet Adalines for many years and later began singing with The Funtastics.&nbsp; Her love of music was a great part of her.&nbsp; Marge also loved being around friends, yet her greatest love and joy was her family. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren which were her highlights of life.&nbsp; Her love&nbsp; and witness will be greatly missed.

Service will be held 11:00 am. Thursday, November 3 at Faith Church, 325 N. Emporia, Valley Center.&nbsp; Graveside following at Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick.

Michael “Mike” Martinez 69, died peacefully on October 27, 2022 at his home in Newton. 

A rosary will be at 6 pm on Friday November 4, 2022 at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. The family will receive friends following the rosary. Celebration of Life will be Saturday November 5, 2022 from 1-5 at the American Legion in Newton.

Mike is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lynnette, 2 sons, Nicholas Martinez, Jason Kapuscinski (Cara), 2 daughters, Jennifer Mantz (Scott), Margo Stinchcomb (Jon), 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by sister Christina “Tina” Trujillo (Dave), brothers Roderick Martinez, Robert Martinez (Lynn), Richard Martinez and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ramon and Valeria Martinez, sister Mona Martinez.

Mike was born in Montezuma. At age 5 his family moved to Newton where he resided for the rest of his life. He attended school in Newton, graduating in 1971 and attended Cowley County Community College on a football scholarship, graduating in 1973. He started working in the Newton Line Department with KG&amp;E in 1973 and retired from Westar Energy in 2015. Over the years Mike was involved with many activities including the Jaycee’s, Special Olympics and coaching little league football. He officiated high school wrestling for 32 years. His favorite past times were fishing, camping and watching the OU Sooners and Kansas City Chiefs play football. Mike and Lynnette resided in Newton for 26 years and so enjoyed many camping trips with friends and family.

He helped many people in various ways and felt it was most important to take care of and be there for his wife, children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Kathryn Miriam Hoover, 104, passed away in McPherson, Kansas, on September 16, 2022. Mrs. Hoover, called Miriam by family and friends, was born in Miami, New Mexico, on September 2, 1918, the daughter of Harley Melvin and Olive Elsie (Pearson) Coppock. At age 2, she moved with her family to Ohio, which was her residence until she married. Miriam attended and graduated from Tippecanoe City Exempted Village Schools, Tipp City, Ohio.&nbsp; Following high school, she graduated at age 18 with a 2-year Normal Degree from Manchester College, North Manchester, Indiana. &nbsp;Midway through her professional career, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Northern Colorado University, Greeley, Colorado. Miriam was united in marriage to Wilbur Replogle Hoover (1917-2003) on May 30, 1942, at Middle District Church of the Brethren, Tipp City, Ohio.&nbsp;&nbsp; Wilbur served as Pastor of Church of the Brethren congregations in Nebraska, Colorado and Missouri and then became Field Secretary for the district, the position which brought Miriam to McPherson in 1971. In addition to her obligations as a Pastor’s wife, Miriam taught 3rd and 4th grade in Tipp City, Ohio; multiple grades in a one room school at Cambridge, Nebraska; Kindergarten in Enders, Nebraska; 3rd grade and Special Education in Rocky Ford, Colorado; and Special Education in Haven, and Buhler High School, Buhler. Miriam was an active member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren, serving her church in many capacities. Following her retirement from teaching, she volunteered her time not only with the church but also with the Cedars Health Care Center where she was a resident. Miriam was a member and past president of the Exceptional Children’s Organization of Reno County, and a member of Cosmos Club and of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.&nbsp;Miriam was a supportive friend to many and an advocate for peace and justice. Surviving family members include her children and their spouses,&nbsp;Modena Elizabeth Wilson (Gary) of Chicago, Illinois; Marlin Coppock Hoover (Mary Nell) of Flossmoor, Illinois; Stewart Mark Hoover (Karen) of Boulder, Colorado; and Marsha Kathryn Hoover (Thomas Karaba) of Chicago, Illinois; and by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mary Lee Detweiler Wiens, 80, of Hesston, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Schowalter Villa, Hesston, Kansas. Mary Lee was born on the farm of her parents near Thomas, Oklahoma on January 27th, 1942. Daughter of John Robert and Ethel Lorene (Miller) Detweiler. Mary Lee was the youngest of three girls. After graduating from Hesston College with an Associates Degree in Business, Mary Lee started working at Hesston Corporation, then at Excel Industries where she was an Office Manager and Administrative Assistant to the President. She retired after 22 years of service. While working at Hesston Corporation, she met the love of her life, Richard H. Wiens. Richard and Mary Lee married May 14, 1966 at Hesston Mennonite Church, Hesston. Richard and Mary Lee were married just short of 40 years. The marriage was blessed with two children, Kimberly Wiens Barber and Philip Wiens and four grandchildren, Katelyn (Chandler) Sanburn, Mason Barber, Kennedy Wiens, and Cooper Wiens. Richard passed away March 28, 2006. Mary Lee was remarried May 23, 2009 to Jim Smith. This marriage expanded her family to include Amy Smith Murphy, Michael Smith, and six grandchildren. Mary Lee enjoyed many years of traveling. Some of her favorite places to visit were Colorado, Florida, and Indiana. An occasional trip to Branson and a bus trip to New York City and Washington D.C. were also special times for her. She loved to host family and friends for coffee or a meal. She had a knack for decorating and making all events special. She enjoyed playing cards with her close friends and attending Bible studies. Mary Lee loved visits from her grandchildren, catching up with their lives and playing a game of Wahoo or dominoes. Christmas was her favorite time of year, she loved the Christmas lights and making the house feel warm and cozy. She was a member of Hesston Mennonite Church for 50+ years, where she volunteered by teaching Sunday school, being involved in youth group and hosting Hesston College MOD groups. Her and Jim also enjoyed giving back to the community through the Meals on Wheels program with weekly deliveries. Mary Lee was raised in a Christian home, surrounded by strong believers. She continued her faith journey throughout life as she placed God at the center of her day to day. Mary Lee is survived by her husband, Jim Smith of Hesston; her children, Kim Barber and her husband Brett, of Hesston, Phil and his wife Krista, of Nappanee, Indiana, Amy and her husband Mike Murphy of Norman, Oklahoma, and Michael and his wife Dana Smith of Norman, Oklahoma. Mary Lee Detweiler Wiens  |1942-2022|  

Gerald "Jerry" Ray Blocher, 91, of Hutchinson, passed away on October 28, 2022, at Buhler Sunshine Home. He was born July 19, 1931, in Humboldt, Nebraska, to James and Leah (Fairley) Blocher.

Jerry was raised in the Humboldt area where he graduated from high school in 1949. He attended Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska for one year, and then served in the Air Force for four years. After his military service, Jerry settled in the Kansas City area where he earned an associate degree in electronics. During his studies, he worked at a toy store in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, and this is where he met his wife to be, Marie. The couple was married on July 17, 1965, and Jerry became stepfather to Dian Kenning Pryor, Jerry Kenning, and Mark Kenning.

The couple moved to Joplin, Missouri where Jerry worked as a pharmaceutical sales rep. In 1970, Jerry became involved with the McDonald’s hamburger business, first as a manager, and then as a part owner-operator in Joplin and Miami, Oklahoma. Jerry and Marie purchased the Hutchinson McDonalds stores in 1978. The Blocher's sold their McDonald’s stores in 2005.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a loving caregiver to Marie during her battle with Alzheimer disease. Jerry was an avid golfer, and enjoyed watching sports on television. He participated in football and basketball during his high school and college years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, having lunch at Carl's Bar, and always had a joke ready to tell.

Through McDonald's and in his personal life Jerry was a noted philanthropist. Many local organizations were the recipients of his generosity. One donation was to fund the very first pulse oximeter to be used in the newborn nursery of Hutchinson Hospital. The Ronald McDonald Houses in Wichita, Trinity Catholic High School in Hutchinson, Catholic churches in the Hutchinson area, and Hutchinson's TECH were just a few of the organizations Jerry supported.

Survivors include: sons, Jerry Kenning (Margaret) and Mark Kenning (Connie); son-in-law, Robert Pryor; nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by: his mother, Leah; father, Orval; stepmother, Charlotte; wife, Marie; stepdaughter, Dian Kenning Pryor; and siblings, George, Harold, Melvin, and Naida Woods Knudson.

Parish rosary will be 10 am Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am, with Father Aaron Spexarth officiating. Burial will follow on at 11:30 am Friday, November 4, 2022, in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Raytown, Missouri. Gerald "Jerry" Ray Blocher, 91, of Hutchinson, passed away on October 28, 2022, at Buhler Sunshine Home. He was born July 19, 1931, in Humboldt, Nebraska, to James and Leah (Fairley) Blocher.Jerry was raised in the Humboldt area where he graduated from high school in 1949. He attended Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska for one year, and then served in the Air Force for four years. After his military service, Jerry settled in the Kansas City area where he earned an associate degree in electronics. During his studies, he worked at a toy store in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, and this is where he met his wife to be, Marie. The couple was married on July 17, 1965, and Jerry became stepfather to Dian Kenning Pryor, Jerry Kenning, and Mark Kenning.The couple moved to Joplin, Missouri where Jerry worked as a pharmaceutical sales rep. In 1970, Jerry became involved with the McDonald’s hamburger business, first as a manager, and then as a part owner-operator in Joplin and Miami, Oklahoma. Larry D. Strawn, 87, of Hutchinson, passed away October 29, 2022, at Legend memory care facility in Hutchinson. Larry was born December 16, 1934, in Kinsley, to Lawrence O. and Eva T. (Cullen) Strawn.

He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1952, and upon graduation enlisted in the United States Navy. Larry served in the Navy for four years and was stationed in the Pacific aboard several destroyers, most notably the Theodore E. Chandler where he served as engine room chief.

While in the service Larry married Ruby L. Pedigo on May 27,1956, in Yuma, Arizona. After being honorably discharged, the couple returned to Hutchinson where they would make their home for the next 60 plus years. Larry was employed a number of jobs but most notably at Cessna/Eaton for 31 years.

Larry had always enjoyed participating in athletics. but upon retirement he found a new passion in the game of golf. For many years, Larry could be found teeing off at the same time each day at either Carey Park, Highlands, or Turkey Creek. Dedicated didn’t cover it as many years Larry would golf over 300 days a year and even made two holes in one! In addition to golf, Larry enjoyed showing horses in his younger days, square dancing, playing card games, playing ping pong and working jigsaw puzzles with his wife, Ruby.

Larry is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Ruby L. Strawn of Hutchinson; two daughters Cathy Emery (Ron) of Hutchinson and Karen Graber (John) of Branson, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Kyle Emery (Emily) of Wichita, Katie Yoder (Aaron) of Augusta, Molly Wilson (Mike) of Branson, Missouri, &nbsp;Joni Thomas (Shane) of Springfield, Missouri, Kristy Graber of Plato, Missouri, Valerie McKinley (Nathan) of Branson, Missouri, and Annie Graber and fiancé Tyler Crnolatas of Branson, Missouri; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers Don Strawn (Sharon) of Hutchinson and Jim Strawn (Linda) of Hutchinson; and sister-in-law, Diana Strawn of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; a sister Joyce Herrell; and a brother Danny Strawn.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Kyle Emery officiating.&nbsp; Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard.&nbsp; Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the Elliott Chapel.&nbsp; Cremation has taken place.

Rebekah Mae Mitchell, 23, of Park City, passed away on Friday, October 7th, 2022, in Tampa, Florida of medical complications.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born April 2, 1999, in Independence, to Frank, Jr and Dana (Bryant) Mitchell.&nbsp; A beloved mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, girlfriend, cousin and friend. Rebekah was a beautiful person inside and out, softspoken and gentle, she loved all in her life with a fire that could not be kindled. She enjoyed art, sewing, computers, music, fuzzy socks and most of all her daughter.

Rebekah was home schooled and active in the local home school group in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.&nbsp; One year, in grade school, she did UpWards Basketball with her sister Elizabeth.&nbsp; Every year she was in a bowling league with her other homeschool friends, a weekly Physical Education class where they did all kinds of sports/fitness activities together and was involved in other activities throughout each year.&nbsp; In high school she joined Bartlesville Southern Baptist church and was active with their youth group.

She took the Marketing class at Tri County Tech in Bartlesville, Oklahoma her junior year.&nbsp; She loved it.&nbsp; She loved dressing up professionally.&nbsp; She had perfect attendance there too and made the honor roll.&nbsp; That class was part of D.E.C.A and at their yearly competition her and her partner won 3rd&nbsp;place.&nbsp; She could have gone to Nationals but was starting to get very sick.&nbsp; That summer she was diagnosed with G.P.A. (aka – Wegener’s Granulomatosis) She was too sick to do the second year of the program. Rebekah graduated May 2017.

Her first job was as a housekeeper at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; She only called in sick once or twice.&nbsp; She would come home so tired that all she could do was go to bed, yet she was determined to keep going.

She later worked as a housekeeper at Regent Park Assisted Living where her sister Kati worked.&nbsp; She loved getting to talk with the residents there.&nbsp; Then she got a job with Visiting Angles where she would go to a person’s house to help them with daily living, keep them company and take them grocery shopping.&nbsp; Rebekah really enjoyed helping people out and getting to know them.

Last year she started the Aviation Maintenance Technology Degree at WSU Tech. She completed one semester then decided to take a break and go stay in Apollo Beach, Florida.

Rebekah was preceded in death by her beloved brother Zachary Mitchell.

Rebekah is survived by her boyfriend Jesse Hunt, their daughter Ruby, and his daughter Quinn of Apollo Beach, FL; parents Frank, Jr. and Dana Mitchell of Park City; siblings Nathan Bryant of Valley Center, Kati Mitchell of Park City, Elizabeth Mitchell of Bel Aire, Nehemiah Mitchell of Valley Center, Samuel Mitchell of Park City, and Ezra Mitchell of Park City; grandparents Fred and Diana Bryant of Valley Center, and Frank and Debbie Mitchell of Coffeyville; Uncle Travis and Aunt Kris Bryant of Valley Center, Aunt Cherie and Uncle Jim Larkin of Garden Plain, Aunt Lisa and Uncle Mike Shivers of Cherryvale; cousins and friends.

Alta married Eugene Haile Ross on November 6, 1949 in Wellsford. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2017. Alta graduated from Friends Haviland Academy. She attended Friends Bible College in Haviland for 2 years. She was a member of Haviland Friends Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting. She made plastic bag sleep mats that she donated to the Salvation Army, Manna House in Dodge City and Ascension Lutheran Church in Pratt. Each one of the sleep mats had a Gideon pamphlet attached. Thank you to all of the friends and neighbors for donating plastic bags for Alta's project. Alta Ross  |1929-2022|  

Anfred Allen Smith, also known as "Shorty", 97, peacefully passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, a resident of Parkword.

Anfred was born August 21, 1925, the youngest son of Jesse and Leah (Shepard) Smith, in Springvale Township in the southwest corner of Pratt Co. He was the last surviving cousin of the Smith and Shepard families.

A life-long resident of Pratt Co., as a young boy he attended school at Wellsford and Cullison. He graduated from Cullison High School in 1943 with a fellow classmate, Vivian Adams, who he would marry. Anfred enlisted in the US Navy on Nov 1944, and attended the US Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. Wearing his Navy uniform he married Vivian Adams in Pratt, KS, on Feb 25, 1945. He was assigned to the USS McCaffrey DD860, a newly commissioned destroyer. He and Vivian attended the commissioning ceremony July 1945, at Terminal Island, Los Angeles, CA. Anfred served as an ammunition supply shipman aboard the McCaffery as it preformed military maneuvers in preparation for its deployment to China. After his discharge from the Navy in 1946, Anfred returned to the southwest area of Pratt Co. where he engaged in farming and raising livestock where the fourth generation of Smiths continue to farm. He and his wife, Vivian, had three children.

In 1979 Anfred participated in the American Agriculture Tractorcade driving his Case tractor to Washington, DC, in February of that year to protest farm prices. Accompanied by his wife and brother, Lawrence, he was one of hundreds of tractors participating in the tractorcade. Anfred attended the Wellsford Methodist Church and later joined the Pratt Free Methodist Church in Pratt. After his retirement in 1991 he and Vivian moved to Pratt where he was involved with church activities and the Gideons, an organization that places bibles in local hotels and distributed bibles to school children. He was involved with missionary work and made trips to Honduras and an Arizona Indian school to help with building and maintenance projects. He enjoyed his grandchildren and gave several of them their first driving lesson in his pickup truck, taking them driving through the pasture.

Anfred Allen Smith, also known as "Shorty", 97, peacefully passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, a resident of Parkword. Anfred was born August 21, 1925, the youngest son of Jesse and Leah (Shepard) Smith, in Springvale Township in the southwest corner of Pratt Co. He was the last surviving cousin of the Smith and Shepard families. A life-long resident of Pratt Co., as a young boy he attended school at Wellsford and Cullison. He graduated from Cullison High School in 1943 with a fellow classmate, Vivian Adams, who he would marry. Anfred enlisted in the US Navy on Nov 1944, and attended the US Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. Wearing his Navy uniform he married Vivian Adams in Pratt, KS, on Feb 25, 1945. He was assigned to the USS McCaffrey DD860, a newly commissioned destroyer. He and Vivian attended the commissioning ceremony July 1945, at Terminal Island, Los Angeles, CA. Anfred served as an ammunition supply shipman aboard the McCaffery as it preformed military maneuvers in preparation for its deployment to China. After his discharge from the Navy in 1946, Anfred returned to the southwest area of Pratt Co. where he engaged in farming and raising livestock where the fourth generation of Smiths continue to farm. He and his wife, Vivian, had three children. In 1979 Anfred participated in the American Agriculture Tractorcade driving his Case tractor to Washington, DC, in February of that year to protest farm prices. Accompanied by his wife and brother, Lawrence, he was one of hundreds of tractors participating in the tractorcade. Anfred attended the Wellsford Methodist Church and later joined the Pratt Free Methodist Church in Pratt. After his retirement in 1991 he and Vivian moved to Pratt where he was involved with church activities and the Gideons, an organization that places bibles in local hotels and distributed bibles to school children. He was involved with missionary work and made trips to Honduras and an Arizona Indian school to help with building and maintenance projects. He enjoyed his grandchildren and gave several of them their first driving lesson in his pickup truck, taking them driving through the pasture. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois, 6 daughters, Kari Silvernale, Kristi Silvernale, Kandace Silvernale (Warren Willis), Kim Silvernale-Wagner (Tim Wagner), Karla Silvernale, and Kelli (Justin Schrag), 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He also is survived by sisters Mary Ann Heieren, Kay Dahlke (Mike), Sally Green (Les) and sister-in-law Kathleen Silvernale. He was preceded in death by a son, Kurtis Allen Silvernale, parents, Walter and Mary Silvernale, Brother Kayo Silvernale and 2 baby brothers, as well as brother-in-law’s Craig Heieren, Don Johnson, Bud Mulder and sister-in-law Sally Johnson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Walt “Smokey” was born on November 25, 1936 in Currie Township, Minnesota. He attended and graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in Currie, Mn. Throughout his youth he worked at various jobs, delivering papers, shoveling snow, working at the family stockyards. After high school he drove truck for Silvernale Trucking until he entered the seminary. When he found out women were not a part of that life, he joined the United States Army as a medic! He married Lois on April 19, 1958, and they lived in San Francisco, California. In 1959, they moved back to Currie, Minnesota, and lived on the family farm. Babies and blizzards led to the family move to Nebraska. With changing jobs in sales, he then moved his family to Illinois, Kansas, Tennessee and back to Kansas where the family settled. Recently, Walt resided with his wife, Lois, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas.

Throughout his life Walt loved the outdoors, fishing, daily trips to East Lake, and watching eagles in the winter months. He loved taking trips with Lois and his family, locally, in country and to Europe and Venezuela! It didn’t matter where he traveled, he always looked for the places with ‘character’ and felt like the journey was more important and interesting than the destination! Walt was an avid animal lover! Rocky was his favorite big collie dog! His Catholic faith was very important to Walt, and he was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Harvey County Parks Board, and was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Going out to eat and coffee with family and friends was a daily outing. It meant a lot visiting friends in the community. He helped many people in various ways and always felt it was most important to ‘take care and be there for the kids’!

Genevieve Elizabeth “Jenny” Landgren, age 101, of Lindsborg passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Bethany Home of Lindsborg.  Jenny was born May 9, 1921 in Beverly. 



She married Marvin Landgren on January 13, 1944. They were members of Bethany Lutheran Church.  Jenny worked for a time as a housekeeper, and as a baker at Bethany College from 1963 to 1984.

Jenny enjoyed working beside her husband, Marvin, on the farm, playing sports, and watching her favorite sports teams (Dallas Cowboys and KC Royals).  Other joys of her life included dancing at parties and spending time with her family at holiday meals and birthday parties, as well as eating ice cream and serving food at the senior center to “the old people”.



Survivors include her sons: Larry Landgren (Karen) of Emporia, Richard Landgren (Pam) of Wichita, and Dean Landgren (Shannon) of McPherson; grandchildren: Brendon Landgren (Jamie Massey Cobb); Lisa Golubski (Rick); Lyndel Landgren (Aimee);  Brent Landgren;  Laren Landgren;  Lathan Landgren (Kayla);  Tiffany Clovis; and Tasha Postier;  as well as 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Jenny is preceded in death by her parents; 6 siblings; husband: Marvin; and grandson: Lanvis Landgren.

She was born May 28, 1930, in Kingman the daughter of Herschel and Essie Downey Hughes.&nbsp; A longtime Kingman resident, &nbsp;having also lived in Wichita and Manhattan, she was a retired surgical technician.

On June 19, 1947, she married Walter Hall, Jr; he died in 2001.&nbsp; Survivors include sons Herschel Alan, Donald Bruce, and Douglas Erwin; 3 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by son Dennis Walter; brothers Richard, Herschel and Edmond; and sister Doris Hughes.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Hoosier Cemetery.

William Jay Braden, 77 of McPherson, passed away at 12:30am Wednesday October 26th at his residence with his loving wife and family by his side. William was born in Sacramento California on December 6th 1944. A son of the late Lois Lorraine (Jordan) and Robert Amos Braden.

He worked for Pyle Construction before going into business for himself, owning B&amp;B Masonry. He spent many years loving his experiences working alongside his family before retiring in 2014. William Jay Braden was united in Marriage to Phyllis June Wilson in Salida Colorado.

He is survived by his loving wife June Braden (Margaret) of McPherson. Sons Terry Braden of Colorado, Steve Braden of Kansas City Missouri, and Jason Wilson of McPherson, Daughter Stephaine Oakes (Steve Oakes) of McPherson. He has 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, as well as all of his bonus children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Ty and Doug Braden, his 4 brothers and 3 sisters, his grandson Jon Paul Oakes, and daughter in law Judy Braden. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, traveling, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Richard Earl Clark, 94, passed away October 27, 2022, at home in Hutchinson. He was born November 27, 1928, to James Walker Clark and Roberla Jessie Hightower, in Cushing, Oklahoma, where he grew up, then moving to White Cloud, Michigan and eventually Hutchinson. 

He served in WWII in Japan, he loved to paint, write poetry, wood carving, wildlife, reading and he was a preacher for many years in Florence, Colorado and White Cloud, Michigan. Richard graduated from high school and also had some years of college education. 

He is survived by his loving wife, with a recent celebration of 72 years on October 2, 2022, Margaret (Phillips) Clark; children, Patricia (Dave) of Ohio, Mitchell (Rebecca) of Hutchinson, Roger of Nebraska and Teri (Scott) of Kinsley, Kansas; 25 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, James, Joanna, Richard II and Roy. 

A memorial service will be at the Salt City Cowboy Church November 12th, 2022, at 1 pm.

Bonnie enjoyed spending time with family and friends fishing, playing dice and cards, especially Rummy, and cold beer.

On February 22, 1963, she married Gary Paris Sr., in Denver, CO. He died September 17, 2010.

Eileen Ruth Yamauchi, 69, passed unexpectedly October 26, 2022, at her home.&nbsp; She was born February 25, 1953, in St. John, to Burton Wilbur and Virginia Ann (Taylor) Snyder.

Eileen graduated from St. John High School in 1971.&nbsp; She received her bachelor’s degree from McPherson College in biology, with a minor in chemistry.&nbsp; Eileen worked for over 15 years in research and development for Doskocil’s.&nbsp; She later retired after eight years of service at the Hutchinson Community Foundation, where she was responsible for donor services.&nbsp; Eileen enjoyed reading, playing the piano, singing, gardening, crafts, and decorating for all the seasons and holidays.&nbsp; She was a servant leader, serving on numerous community boards and organizations throughout the years and was a member of Soroptimist International.&nbsp; Eileen also appreciated the ministries of her church, Grace Bible Church in Hutchinson, and particularly enjoyed being involved with the toddler ministry.&nbsp; Above all, Eileen loved being a doting grandma and great-grandma; she would do anything for her family.&nbsp; Eileen left an imprint on everyone she met and will be greatly missed.

On August 5, 1978, she married Mark Yamauchi, in St. John. They shared 44 years of marriage.

Eileen is survived by:&nbsp; her husband, Mark Yamauchi; daughters, Sara Yamauchi and Crystal Gonzales (Paul), all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Quentin Clapp (Casey), Kaiya Yamauchi-Valles, Gregory Gonzales (Samantha) and family, all of Hutchinson and Samuel Gonzales and family of Kansas City, MO; great-grandson, Hardin Clapp; brother, Lance Snyder (Olivia) of Ouray, CO; nephew, Adam Snyder of Durango, CO; niece, Eloris Snyder of Houston, TX; and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and mother-in-law, Fuji Yamauchi.

Eileen Ruth Yamauchi, 69, passed unexpectedly October 26, 2022, at her home.&nbsp; She was born February 25, 1953, in St. John, to Burton Wilbur and Virginia Ann (Taylor) Snyder.Eileen graduated from St. John High School in 1971.&nbsp; She received her bachelor’s degree from McPherson College in biology, with a minor in chemistry.&nbsp; Eileen worked for over 15 years in research and development for Doskocil’s.&nbsp; She later retired after eight years of service at the Hutchinson Community Foundation, where she was responsible for donor services.&nbsp; Eileen enjoyed reading, playing the piano, singing, gardening, crafts, and decorating for all the seasons and holidays.&nbsp; She was a servant leader, serving on numerous community boards and organizations throughout the years and was a member of Soroptimist International.&nbsp; Eileen also appreciated the ministries of her church, Grace Bible Church in Hutchinson, and particularly enjoyed being involved with the toddler ministry.&nbsp; Above all, Eileen loved being a doting grandma and great-grandma; she would do anything for her family.&nbsp; Eileen left an imprint on everyone she met and will be greatly missed.On August 5, 1978, she married Mark Yamauchi, in St. John. They shared 44 years of marriage.Eileen is survived by:&nbsp; her husband, Mark Yamauchi; daughters, Sara Yamauchi and Crystal Gonzales (Paul), all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Quentin Clapp (Casey), Kaiya Yamauchi-Valles, Gregory Gonzales (Samantha) and family, all of Hutchinson and Samuel Gonzales and family of Kansas City, MO; great-grandson, Hardin Clapp; brother, Lance Snyder (Olivia) of Ouray, CO; nephew, Adam Snyder of Durango, CO; niece, Eloris Snyder of Houston, TX; and countless friends.She was preceded in death by her parents and mother-in-law, Fuji Yamauchi.Celebration of Life service for Eileen will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Grace Bible Church, 1221 E. 33rd&nbsp;Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastor Bart Horton officiating.&nbsp; Graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John.&nbsp; Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
