Dear Anonymous,  This isn’t an uncommon thing in situations like yours. But more than feeling indebted to someone or experiencing a sense of guilt or shame, it’s really a discussion about differing views of marriage.

You’re never in debt to your spouse. You should be all-in where your husband or wife is concerned. Remember the vows? For richer, for poorer. In sickness and in health. If she makes you chicken soup when you’re sick, does she charge you for it? Of course not. When you get married, you agree to take on each other’s burdens. Once you walk down the aisle with someone, you’re choosing to serve each other. You’re also choosing to take on each other’s debt, each other’s income, each other’s assets and each other’s crazy parents. Everything!  

It all boils down to having a shared view of a proper marriage relationship. And the proper (and biblical) view is we own everything. There’s no mine and yours anymore. Now, you can’t make her feel—or not feel—a certain way. But you can ask her questions to understand where she’s coming from and what blockers are keeping her from being totally together in this. Talk about it. Put your heads together and practice thinking about your marriage as a union.  

It will take some encouragement from you and some getting used to on her part, but if you work together, it’s a muscle you can grow and develop together.

This advisory affects only those customers North of Kansas Avenue on Koch Industrial Lane, and includes the airport.

Customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:

The advisory took effect on Jan. 30, 2026 and will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are resolved. KDHE officials issued the advisory because of a waterline break resulting in a loss of pressure in the distribution system.&nbsp; Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.&nbsp;

Regardless of whether the public water supplier or Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) announced a boil water advisory, only KDHE can issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory.

Kansas Bill Would Allow Digital Driver’s Licenses and IDs on Smartphones

TOPEKA — Kansas lawmakers are considering legislation that would allow residents to carry a digital version of their driver’s license or state identification card on their smartphones.

Senate Bill 230 would authorize the Division of Vehicles within the Kansas Department of Revenue to establish, or contract for, an electronic credentialing system to issue optional digital driver’s licenses and digital ID cards. Under the bill, digital credentials would be supplemental to physical cards but would be required to be accepted anywhere a physical license or ID is used.

The bill would allow Kansans to store a secure version of their license or ID on a mobile device, similar to digital IDs already available on some smartphones, including Apple devices.

The legislation also creates new criminal penalties related to fraud. Manufacturing false digital credentials would be classified as a Class B nonperson misdemeanor, while possessing false digital credentials would be a severity level 9 nonperson felony.

SB 230 would further extend the authority of the Division of Vehicles to oversee the issuance and administration of digital credentials, along with the electronic system required to support them. The bill also includes technical and conforming changes to existing law.

The legislation was introduced by Elaine Bowers of Concordia and has been referred to the Senate Committee on Transportation for consideration.

Hutchinson Regional Medical Center is nearing a major milestone in its effort to move away from traveling medical staff and toward a fully local workforce, a shift hospital leaders say is improving care continuity, reducing costs and strengthening the community economy.

Hutchinson Regional Medical Center CEO Benjamin Anderson and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Samuel Akidiva said the hospital’s emergency department is now almost entirely staffed by physicians who live in Hutchinson or the immediate area.

Two years ago, Anderson said, the hospital relied heavily on physicians who traveled in from cities such as Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas City and Tulsa to work short-term shifts — a model that was costly and created challenges in consistency and accountability.

“We set out to transform our emergency department medical staff to be almost exclusively local,” Anderson said. “When physicians live here, shop here, and raise their families here, there’s a different level of connection and consistency for patients.”

According to Anderson, the hospital has now recruited a full emergency department physician team, with the final physician — who grew up in Sterling — expected to arrive this summer. With one long-tenured physician still living in Wichita, the rest of the team now resides in Hutchinson.

The hospital has also made significant progress reducing its reliance on contract nurses. At one point, Hutchinson Regional employed nearly 70 traveling nurses on short-term contracts. That number has now dropped to 16, with plans to eliminate the remaining contract positions by this summer.

Anderson credited Chief Nursing Officer Jill White for leading a scholarship and workforce pipeline program in partnership with local community colleges and regional nursing schools. With nursing staffing stabilizing, the hospital is now looking to redirect future scholarship funding toward other high-need allied health and technical positions.

Hospital leaders say the shift to a local workforce is already having ripple effects beyond the hospital walls.

“When you recruit an emergency department team that lives here, it’s like the Chamber recruiting a business with several million dollars in payroll,” Anderson said. “It impacts housing, schools, and the overall local economy.”

Looking ahead, Hutchinson Regional Medical Center is also advancing plans for a new childcare center designed to support hospital employees and other working families in the community. The project is a partnership with the Cosmosphere, the YMCA of Greater Wichita, and Horizons Mental Health Center.

The proposed facility, to be located just east of the new YMCA, would offer 130 childcare slots. Thirty of those would be dedicated to children with special needs, supported by additional staffing and space under Horizons’ oversight. The remaining 100 slots would primarily serve hospital employees, with the YMCA operating the center. The program will feature a STEM-focused curriculum developed in partnership with the Cosmosphere.

The total project cost is estimated at $8 million. Anderson said several million dollars have already been raised, with hospital leaders currently meeting with foundations about potential seven-figure gifts. If fundraising stays on track, construction could begin later this year, with the center opening by summer 2027.

Hospital officials say access to reliable childcare is becoming increasingly critical for recruiting and retaining healthcare professionals, particularly physicians and young families.

“We’re not just bringing in doctors — we’re bringing in families,” Anderson said. “Childcare is one of the biggest barriers, and this project is about fixing that here in Hutchinson.”

Anderson noted that during recent meetings with foundations, hospital leaders even brought along the one-year-old child of a newly recruited family physician to underscore the real-world need for childcare capacity in the community.

“This is about supporting the families we already have and the ones we’re working to bring here,” Anderson said. “And we’re committed to making that happen.”

MCPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — Law enforcement officials are warning residents about a scam email circulating locally that falsely claims the recipient has purchased a high-priced smartphone and urges them to call a number to cancel the charge.

The message typically states something along the lines of: “You have purchased Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max. If you did not make this purchase, call to cancel this order or your account will be charged.” The amount listed is often several thousand dollars.

According to authorities, the goal of the scam is to pressure recipients into calling the phone number provided in the email. Once on the line, the scammer pretends to be a helpful customer service representative and claims they can “fix” the issue.

That’s where the scam becomes more serious.

Investigators say victims are sometimes instructed to download new apps to their phone or computer, which allows scammers to track activity and access sensitive information. Once scammers have that access, they may begin stealing money or threatening victims with blackmail to continue extracting payments.

A McPherson County deputy recently received one of the scam emails and, having dealt with similar reports from the public in the past, decided to call the number and play along. When the scammers attempted to convince the deputy to download tracking apps, he confronted them. At that point, the polite customer service act quickly ended, and the callers began yelling, cursing, and making threats — a clear sign the operation was fraudulent.

Law enforcement stresses that anyone who receives a similar email should not call the number listed, click on attachments, or download any apps.

Instead, officials recommend contacting your bank directly and using a known, verified phone number for services like PayPal or other financial institutions to confirm whether any charges are legitimate. Once confirmed as a scam, the email should be deleted.

Authorities also remind the public never to give out personal or financial information to anyone whose identity cannot be confirmed.

“If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts,” officials said. “At a minimum, never share sensitive information with someone you don’t know.”

Cosmosphere to host Valentine’s Day party for couples

WASHINGTON, DC –&nbsp;The winter storm that wreaked havoc on most of the nation has&nbsp;led to supply disruptions and pushed up the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline&nbsp;to $2.87.&nbsp;

Below-freezing temperatures and lingering snow have disrupted some crude production and refinery operations, while gasoline demand&nbsp;increased&nbsp;pre-storm as drivers filled up their tanks ahead of the severe winter weather.&nbsp;

Those factors have led to a rise&nbsp;at&nbsp;the pump&nbsp;over the last week&nbsp;but not enough to match last year’s national average&nbsp;at this time of $3.12.&nbsp;

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased last week from 7.83 million b/d to 8.75 million. Total domestic gasoline supply increased from 257 million barrels to 257.2 million. 

Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.&nbsp;

Wobbly gas prices following winter storm

HUTCHINSON — As flu season continues across Kansas, officials at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center say influenza — not COVID-19 — is driving the majority of respiratory-related hospital visits, with older adults and those with underlying conditions most at risk.

During a recent appearance on the BW Morning Show, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Samuel Akidiva said the hospital has seen a steady increase in flu cases, including some severe infections requiring intensive care.

“We are clearly in flu season,” Akidiva said. “Most patients are being treated on regular hospital floors and discharged within two to three days, but we have seen some serious cases, particularly when flu is followed by bacterial pneumonia.”

Akidiva said the hospital is seeing multiple strains, including influenza A and B, RSV, and other respiratory viruses identified through expanded diagnostic panels. He emphasized that patients most likely to experience complications are older adults and those with conditions such as emphysema or compromised immune systems.

“That’s why we strongly encourage vaccinations — flu, RSV and pneumonia — especially for higher-risk patients,” he said.

In addition to respiratory illness, hospital leaders noted an uptick in cold-related medical emergencies during recent extreme winter weather. Akidiva said patients have been treated for hypothermia and cold exposure, often discovered during welfare checks.

“When people are exposed to cold for too long, confusion can set in, and that affects judgment,” he said. “Prevention is critical — dress appropriately, monitor how long you’re outside, and take breaks to warm up.”

Hospital operations are also affected during winter storms, as hazardous road conditions can delay patient discharges and increase strain on inpatient capacity.

According to the organization’s annual figures, Beyond Barriers served 770 individuals in 60 Kansas counties in 2025, responding to 3,744 requests for assistance. Services were provided at no cost and focused on helping individuals pursue goals related to independent living, employment, housing, and accessibility.

Beyond Barriers is a nonprofit organization that provides person-centered support to people with disabilities, including advocacy, legal assistance, and independent living services. 

In 2025, service requests included advocacy and systems navigation, legal services, assistive technology support, housing assistance, independent living skills training, peer counseling, and vocational and employment services.

“These figures reflect the scope of need across Kansas and the importance of accessible, community-based supports,” said Erica Rivera, Executive Director of Beyond Barriers. “Each request represents someone working toward greater independence and self-determination.”

Beyond Barriers operates under an Independent Living philosophy, emphasizing consumer choice and self-direction. The organization reports that more than half of its board members are individuals with disabilities, and services are available without eligibility screening or proof of disability.

Looking ahead to 2026, Beyond Barriers expects service demand to continue. While grant funding supports part of its operations, the organization notes that community donations play a key role in maintaining free and responsive services for Kansans with disabilities.

Beyond Barriers reports 2025 Service Impact for Kansas with disabilities

U.S. Wheat Associates (USW) staff in Mexico City discussed the importance of the Mexican market to U.S. wheat farmers in mid-January with a visiting delegation of Kansas commodity groups led by U.S. Senator Roger Marshall (R-Kansas).

“The symbiotic relationship between U.S. wheat farmers and Mexican millers relies on the U.S. as a reliable supplier of high-quality wheat to the Mexican private milling sector,” said Mitch Skalicky, USW regional vice president. “We appreciate the Senator traveling to Mexico to learn more about our work in this top market and offer his support for expanding this successful partnership.”

Senator Marshall traveled with leaders from Kansas Wheat, Kansas Soybean, Kansas Sorghum, Kansas Corn, Kansas Dairy and the Kansas Grain and Feed Association. While in Mexico, Senator Marshall met with high-level Mexican government officials — including the Mexican Secretary of Agriculture — to discuss the importance of trade between the two countries and the shared role Kansas agriculture plays in feeding families across North America.

The delegation also met with private-sector businesses and associations operating in both Mexico and the U.S. to learn more about the economic and logistical partnerships powering trade between the two nations.

“Mexico is Kansas’ largest export market, and I traveled to Mexico City with Kansas commodity leaders to protect and expand opportunities for Kansas agriculture,” said Senator Marshall. “Under President Trump’s America First trade agenda, we’re going to fight for Kansas producers, demand fair treatment, and deliver real wins for our state. With USMCA renegotiations beginning this year, we’re focused on opening new doors for Kansas dairy and defending strong markets for Kansas wheat, sorghum, and corn — while enforcing fair trade rules and reducing the trade deficit.

Kansas Delegation Talks Successful Wheat Trade with Mexico

The delegation also met with Skalicky and Stephanie Bryant-Erdmann, USW assistant regional director, on Friday, January 16. The meeting covered a wide array of topics, ranging from the different wheat classes purchased by Mexico from the United States, the volume of Mexican wheat imports, the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) and transportation economics related to the shipping of wheat by rail from the U.S. to Mexico.

The USW team also presented an overview of the Mexican market situation, specific trade data on wheat shipments from Kansas to Mexico and future opportunities to expand U.S.-Mexico wheat trade.

As of January 8, 2026, Mexico has purchased 3.39 MMT (nearly 124.6 million bushels) of U.S. wheat, an 6% increase from last marketing year. Mexico currently ranks as the top buyer of U.S. hard red winter (HRW) and soft red winter (SRW) wheat and the second-largest buyer of hard red spring (HRS) and durum.

Clay Schemm, a Kansas wheat farmer from Sharon Springs, participated in the trade mission as a representative of Kansas Wheat. He noted that the pride and professionalism in the Mexican milling industry, their appreciation for the quality of wheat produced in the United States and their desire to move more trains and trucks across the border even more efficiently to keep up with the country’s growing demand for wheat. He remarked that it was refreshing to see the same “salt of the earth” work ethic valued by U.S. farming communities mirrored in customers south of the border.

“My personal takeaway is that the Mexican people are a group I am proud to have as partners on the world stage,” Schemm said. “There is a kinship there—a friendliness and a desire to connect that makes it feel like a true North American culture. They are all-in on this partnership, and we should be too.”

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hannah Stoecklein, a second-grade teacher at Allen STEM Magnet School, has been named the Allen Samuels Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Teacher of the Month for January.

Stoecklein was surprised in her classroom earlier this month by Cris Schul and Sandy Baker of Allen Samuels Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, along with Ashley Weve of Eagle Media, who presented her with a certificate and a gift basket recognizing her work in the classroom.

“I am very honored that I got this award, because I think teaching can kind of have a bad rap or doesn’t get a lot of positive attention,” Stoecklein said. “And to get an award, you just kind of feel honored and you feel seen.”

Stoecklein is in her fourth year teaching and previously worked as a paraeducator. She said her decision to become a teacher was inspired by her own second-grade teacher, who took extra time to help her succeed when school was challenging.

“School has always been hard for me, and she was kind of the first teacher to truly take time out of her day,” Stoecklein said. “She would stay after school with me or use her plan time just to help me. Now that I’m a teacher, I think that’s even more amazing that she took her free time to help me.”

Originally from the small rural town of Montezuma in southwest Kansas, Stoecklein attended South Gray High School before earning her elementary education degree from Newman University in Wichita. She completed her student teaching at St. Dominic Catholic School in Garden City, then taught and coached in Nickerson for two years before joining USD 308. This is her second year in the district.

Stoecklein transferred to Allen STEM in late October of last year and said the move has been a positive experience.

“Allen has been phenomenal. Their staff has been so supportive,” she said. “It has been really cool to see the STEM side of things. Even in second grade, I can say we’re doing a STEM challenge, and the kids know what’s expected of them.”

She also praised the support system within USD 308.

“The resources in this district are outstanding,” Stoecklein said. “If you don’t know where to find something, someone will help you find it. That goes for teachers and administration.”

Stoecklein’s class also took part in the celebration, receiving pizza from Pizza Hut and ice cream sundaes from Braum’s.

Stoecklein encouraged prospective teachers to get involved firsthand.

“I would encourage them to volunteer in schools or become a substitute teacher and see for themselves,” she said. “Teaching can look intimidating, especially with what we see on social media, but there are a lot of good teachers, and we always need more.”

For Stoecklein, the most rewarding part of teaching comes from the small, daily victories.

“Small steps matter,” she said. “Their scores may not go up largely, but you see little improvements. It could be as simple as a kid following a direction the first time. Those small steps matter, and seeing that effort every day is one of my favorite things about teaching.”

She said her decision to become a teacher was inspired by her own second-grade teacher, who took extra time to help her succeed when school was challenging.“School has always been hard for me, and she was kind of the first teacher to truly take time out of her day,” Stoecklein said. “She would stay after school with me or use her plan time just to help me. Now that I’m a teacher, I think that’s even more amazing that she took her free time to help me.”Originally from the small rural town of Montezuma in southwest Kansas, Stoecklein attended South Gray High School before earning her elementary education degree from Newman University in Wichita. She completed her student teaching at St. Dominic Catholic School in Garden City, then taught and coached in Nickerson for two years before joining USD 308. This is her second year in the district.Stoecklein transferred to Allen STEM in late October of last year and said the move has been a positive experience.“Allen has been phenomenal. Their staff has been so supportive,” she said. “It has been really cool to see the STEM side of things. Even in second grade, I can say we’re doing a STEM challenge, and the kids know what’s expected of them.”She also praised the support system within USD 308.“The resources in this district are outstanding,” Stoecklein said. “If you don’t know where to find something, someone will help you find it. That goes for teachers and administration.”<figure>

Allen STEM's Hannah Stoecklein named Teacher of the Month

PrairieStar Health Center has been awarded a $600,000 challenge
grant from the Mabee Foundation to support the construction of a new,
state-of-the-art dental clinic. The facility will span 14,900 square feet and
will significantly increase access to dental care for rural residents in the
region.

Bridging the Gap in Access to Dental Care

To be constructed on PrairieStar’s existing property, just
to the west of its current facility, the new dental clinic will house 14 new
dental suites, one of which will be fully accessible for patients in wheelchairs.


“This project will not only increase access to care, it
will strengthen our most cherished commitments: our dental outreach program for
children, seniors in nursing homes and individuals with developmental
disabilities,” said PrairieStar CEO, Bryant Anderson.

The new dental space will allow PrairieStar to grow its
dental in-reach and outreach services, opening the door for over 2,000 more patients
to have access to dental care each year. 

“Our dental teams care for children in our schools who
struggle to learn because of constant mouth pain. They see seniors in our
nursing homes, who long for something as basic and dignifying as clean teeth
and provide outreach to individuals with disabilities who depend on a steady,
caring hand. These are the people who inspire us, who remind us why our work
matters so deeply,” PrairieStar Dental Director, Yen Nguyen, DMD said.

Engaging the Community in the Challenge

The Mabee Foundation challenge grant requires PrairieStar
to raise $676,300 (the challenge) from donors by January 13, 2027, in order to
receive $600,000 (the challenge grant). If PrairieStar is unable to raise all
the matching funds by the fundraising deadline, it will not receive any of the challenge
grant funds.

TOPEKA — Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach is warning consumers about a sophisticated email scam that falsely claims to come from the U.S. District Court and threatens recipients with legal action.

Kobach said the scam is designed to steal personal information or infect computers with malware by tricking people into opening attachments or clicking links that appear to be official court documents.

“Kansans should never respond to unsolicited emails claiming to be official court summons—these are sophisticated scams designed to steal personal information or infect devices with malware,” Kobach said. “State and federal courts do not serve legal documents via email, and clicking links or opening attachments in these fraudulent messages can have serious consequences.”

According to the Kansas Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division, reports have come in from residents who received emails with subject lines such as “Legal Compliance Required: Court Case #USDC-2026-[Number].” The messages falsely claim the recipient has been “formally served with a summons in a civil action” and warn that a default judgment will be entered if the recipient does not respond immediately.

The Attorney General’s Office offered several tips for handling these emails:

Do not reply: Do not click on any links, open attachments, or respond to the sender. The content is likely malicious.

Know the process: The U.S. District Court does not serve initial summonses by email. Official service is carried out through certified mail or by a process server.

Verify independently: If you believe a legal case may exist, contact the Clerk of the Court using contact information found on the court’s official website, not details provided in the email.

Check the sender carefully: Scammers often spoof legitimate addresses or use non-government domains. Legitimate federal court emails always end in .gov, not .org or .com.

Consumers who receive one of these scam emails are encouraged to report it. The message can be forwarded to the Federal Trade Commission at <a href="MAILTO:spam@uce.gov">spam@uce.gov</a>

Kansans can also file a complaint with the Kansas Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division through the Attorney General’s website.

Kansas A.G. warns of email scam 

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt testified in support of SB 360, the Kansas Consumer Prescription Protection and Accountability Act. The bill establishes a new regulatory framework for pharmacy benefit managers (PBM) that ensures PBM practices are focused on returning savings to Kansans.

“PBMs play a powerful role in determining what patients pay for prescription drugs, yet in Kansas their practices are near unregulated and cost taxpayers and health plans more,” said Commissioner Vicki Schmidt. “This bill would go a long way in addressing many of the factors that drive up prescription costs for Kansans.”

SB 360 requires drug rebates to be passed through to patients and their health plans and bans a practice called “spread pricing” where a PBM bills a health plan more for a prescription than they reimburse a pharmacy and keep the difference as profit. The bill also aims to protect patient choices by requiring pharmacies to be reimbursed the same and gives the Department of Insurance the tools to ensure transparency and accountability.

A rupture in a main water line at The Wesley on the evening of Saturday, Jan. 24, prompted a swift and coordinated response from city crews, local businesses, and staff, ensuring resident safety and a rapid restoration of services.

The break occurred approximately six feet underground and left more than 80 residents without water for nearly 24 hours. Officials with the City of Hutchinson, including Mark Maness, responded quickly to shut off the water and secure the site.

Cleanup efforts began immediately with assistance from ServiceMaster, while Hilton Garden Inn stepped in on short notice to accommodate residents who needed temporary lodging. Barkley Plumbing worked throughout Sunday to repair the damaged line and restore water service, and Concrete Plus adjusted its schedule to replace flooring that had to be removed to access the leak.

The Wesley also highlighted the extraordinary efforts of its own employees during the incident. Maintenance crews coordinated on-site response efforts, housekeeping staff assisted with water removal and supply distribution, and front desk team members personally contacted affected residents and family members. Life Enrichment staff assisted with transportation, while Chief Operating Officer Nabeel Khokhar remained on site throughout the incident to oversee and manage the response.

Facility leaders also expressed gratitude to residents, noting that those affected handled the disruption with patience and understanding.

In a statement, The Wesley said the incident demonstrated the strength of its partnerships and staff commitment, adding that moments like this exemplify its guiding message: “Our people make the difference.”

The Hutchinson Fire Department has been recognized as a Gold Helmet Department for its strong participation in the National Firefighter Registry for Cancer, a nationwide effort aimed at better understanding and reducing cancer risk among firefighters.

Departments are eligible for Gold Helmet status if at least 50 percent of their active firefighters are enrolled in the registry, or if the department has more than 300 active firefighters signed up. Hutchinson Fire Department officials say the designation reflects a department-wide commitment to firefighter health and long-term safety.

The National Firefighter Registry for Cancer is the largest initiative ever undertaken to study cancer among U.S. firefighters. The registry is managed by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, which is recruiting current and former firefighters to help researchers better understand how cancer risk may vary across the nation’s diverse fire service.

Firefighters are routinely exposed to hazardous chemicals and carcinogens on the fireground, which can increase their risk of developing cancer over time. Despite growing awareness, many questions remain about how factors such as job role, length of service, types of incidents, and protective equipment affect cancer risk.

By enrolling a significant portion of its workforce, the Hutchinson Fire Department is contributing critical data that will help shape future prevention strategies, safety standards, and health protections for firefighters nationwide.

HFD earns gold helmet recognition for cancer registry participation

Voters planning to cast a ballot in Hutchinson’s March 3 special election on a proposed three-quarter-percent local sales tax increase should take note of a significant change in polling locations.

Most voters will not vote at the Kansas State Fairgrounds as they typically do. Instead, polling for the majority of precincts will be moved to Memorial Hall, located just south of downtown Hutchinson.

Only voters in Precinct #28 and #28 EX who vote at Dillon Nature Center and precinct #34 and #34 EX who vote at Bethany Nazarene Church will vote in their normal locations.&nbsp;

Reno County Clerk Jenna Fager said all fairgrounds buildings are booked for another event during the election period, leaving Memorial Hall as the only suitable alternative location.

Because of the polling place change, state law requires the county to notify all affected registered voters in advance. Fager said the cost to mail postcard notifications to voters will be approximately $16,900.

Fager said that she is keeping costs down, by reducing the number of boards at the election. For this election she is using only using 8 boards instead of the normal 12 boards. Fewer election workers will keep the labor cost down for the election.&nbsp; Also, she added, because the city owns Memorial Hall, there will not be a rental fee as well.&nbsp;

Only two polling locations will remain unchanged for the March 3 election: Dillon Nature Center and Bethany Nazarene Church.

 </figure>Reno County Clerk Jenna Fager said all fairgrounds buildings are booked for another event during the election period, leaving Memorial Hall as the only suitable alternative location.Because of the polling place change, state law requires the county to notify all affected registered voters in advance. Fager said the cost to mail postcard notifications to voters will be approximately $16,900.Fager said that she is keeping costs down, by reducing the number of boards at the election. For this election she is using only using 8 boards instead of the normal 12 boards. Fewer election workers will keep the labor cost down for the election.&nbsp; Also, she added, because the city owns Memorial Hall, there will not be a rental fee as well.&nbsp;Only two polling locations will remain unchanged for the March 3 election: Dillon Nature Center and Bethany Nazarene Church.The Kansas State Fairgrounds will be hosting SkillsUSA events from March 1 through March 4, which conflicts with election operations and prompted the relocation.Voters who are not registered or who need to update their registration information must do so by Feb. 10. Advance voting will begin on Monday, Feb. 23.
