NEWTON, Kan. — Drivers traveling Interstate 135 through Newton should prepare for lane restrictions beginning next week as the Kansas Department of Transportation starts a concrete patching project.

KDOT says work is expected to begin on or around Monday, Oct. 19, along I-135 between U.S. 50 on the south side of Newton and K-15 on the north side of the city.

Crews will repair sections of concrete pavement along the interstate. During construction, I-135 traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the work zone, and a reduced speed limit will be in effect.

Motorists should allow additional travel time and use caution when approaching and traveling through the construction area.

R.A. Knapp Construction Inc. of Lenexa is the primary contractor for the approximately $232,000 project.

KDOT expects the concrete patching work to be completed by the end of November, weather and other conditions permitting.

Drivers can check current highway conditions and construction information through KanDrive or by calling 511. Additional information about KDOT construction projects in south-central Kansas is available through the agency's South Central District.
