HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach talked to Hutch Post at the Kansas State Fair. He's proud of the work his team has done to combat federal overreach.

"We've had a number of victories against the Biden administration," Kobach said. "I'm really pleased with our team, one of which was the Title IX case, where the Biden administration is trying to use its regulatory authority, which it doesn't have in this instance, to force colleges and high schools to allow biological males to use women's restrooms, locker rooms, showers, and a whole host of other things. And we won that case in Kansas District Court. The U.S. Department of Justice is moving on up to the Court of Appeals, and we hope to win there as well. We had another victory in a case where the Biden administration is trying to give the right to unionize to legal alien farm workers, farm workers who have H-2A visas, and we beat them in District Court on that issue as well. And then of course the student loans question, where the Biden administration is trying to forgive student loans without proper authority, we beat them in that case as well, so we're racking up some victories for the Constitution and for the people of Kansas."

The expansion of administrative action without attempts to get legislation through Congress has been a relatively recent phenomenon.

"One change occurred about 20 years ago, 15 years ago, that has really changed the role of State Attorney General, and that is that the various U.S. courts of appeals, the various circuits have opened up standing, meaning they've allowed states to come in as plaintiffs, where maybe 30 years ago they would not have allowed the state to sue," Kobach said. "That's been the biggest change. Then you have the other big change, which is the Biden administration, and before that the Obama administration, just pushing the envelope of what they try to do. You know, previously they would try to move something through Congress. Now they don't even bother. They just go straight to a regulatory agency and push a regulation that is unconstitutional and probably contrary to statute, in the case of, such as the Title IX one or the attempt to forgive student loans. That's another big change. You've got an overreaching administration, which we didn't see 20 years ago, and you've got rules of standing that allow the states to come in and challenge it."

Kobach's office is also working on another administrative strategy, called 'sue and settle', when an administration gets a friend to sue them and then settles with that friend to bypass the administrative law process.

"Kansas is right now leading an effort to stop this sue and settle arrangement where an administration has a friendly lawsuit, and then they settle it, and they achieve what they wanted by not even issuing a regulation. They just have a settlement and a lawsuit," Kobach said. "The case is called East Bay Sanctuary, and it's in the Ninth Circuit out of California. And that's exactly what happened there. The plaintiffs got a friendly settlement or in a friendly negotiation with the U.S. Department of Justice, and the state of Kansas, along with a couple of other states, were jumping in and saying, no, no, no, you don't. We want to intervene in this case and represent the people of the United States. That case is about the plaintiffs trying to basically wipe away a good immigration regulation that would make it harder for these illegal aliens to falsely claim asylum, and it would make it harder for them to come in anywhere they want along the border, and then if they get caught, say, oh, I'm here for asylum. And so anyway, it's a great regulation. We're there to defend it, and we're trying to intervene, and we're asking the U.S. Supreme Court to allow us to intervene to stop this sue and settle scheme, and we should have an answer from the U.S. Supreme Court soon."

Kobach proud of teamwork in his office

Donna Jeanne Moye, 73, died August 11, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born January 24, 1951, in Abilene, to Chauncy Hampton and Mary Louise (Saunders) White.

Donna graduated from Abilene High School in 1969, Hutchinson Community Junior College in 1973, and Don’s Floral Academy in 1992.

She spent her working career as a Front Desk Receptionist for Rainbow Bakery. She was later employed as a computer analyst for Chevron Oil, Skelly Oil, and Getty Oil. She eventually retired in 2003 from Chevron Oil.

On February 14, 1980, she married Arthur Garfield Moye, Jr., in Miami, OK. Donna and Arthur shared 27 years of marriage until he died on March 13, 2007.

She was active in the community as part of the Professional Business Women’s Association, and a Certified Floral Designer. Donna was a member of the Local Chapter of the NAACP and Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Hutchinson, where she will long be remembered (and missed) for playing her tambourine.

Donna is survived by her brother, Bernie Kenneth White, nieces Ivy Collier, Sherry Ettiene, Mariah Furrer, and nephew Nathan Furrer.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, 11 a.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1015 E. 7th, Hutchinson, KS. Pastor William J. Green, Sr. will preside.

Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers, to the Donna Moye Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501. To benefit the Donna Moye Memorial Fund, please make the check payable to Elliott Mortuary.

Twila Janice Lenstrom, 95, passed away September 9, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. She was born January 30, 1929, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, the daughter of William and Gladys Carnine Reckling. She was a graduate of Comstock High School and had received her teacher’s certificate from Kearney State College. She had attended Grace Bible Church, Hutchinson and was a member of Wescott Baptist Church, Comstock. She married Gayle Lenstrom on May 22, 1949, in Comstock, Nebraska. He passed away on July 28, 2017.

Survivors include her children, Janet (Ron) Regehr, Inman, Janell (Dan) Thompson, Hutchinson, and Janene (David) Thiessen, Inman; daughter in law, Kathy Lenstrom, Sidney, NE; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ron Lenstrom; 2 brothers; and a sister.

Private family burial will take place prior to funeral services. Memorial services will be held at noon Friday, September 13, 2024, at Wescott Baptist Church, Comstock, NE. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, in care of Inman Funeral Home; PO Box 490; Inman, KS 67546.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 2024-2025 class of the Wall of Honor at Hutchinson High School features a trio of HHS alumni. The honorees are Caitlin Doornbos, class of 2010; Geneo Grissom, class of 2010; and Heath W. Bechler, class of 1989.

Sponsored by the HHS Alumni Association and Hutchinson High School, the group will be honored during a banquet at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 3 in the HHS Career and Technical Education Academy, 800 15th&nbsp;Circle. The public is invited and encouraged to attend as we celebrate three individuals who have dedicated their lives to making Hutchinson and the world a better place.

During his high school years, it was the bonds of friendship that left an indelible mark. He recalls the deep commitment and mutual support among his friends, especially during challenging times. These experiences seeded Heath's understanding of compassion and solidarity, qualities he later carried into his professional endeavors.

Earning a B.S. in Psychology from Kansas State University, Heath felt a calling to make a tangible difference in people's lives. This led him into the substance abuse treatment field, where he founded King's Treatment Center in 2002. His motivation was clear: to blend compassionate care with evidence-based practices, ensuring each client received holistic support.

Heath's educational journey continued with a Master's degree in Christian Ministry from Friends University and an MBA from Tabor College. These studies not only expanded his knowledge base but also deepened his understanding of leadership and service. Alongside his academic pursuits, Heath raised four sons, whom he credits for significant personal and professional growth. His children taught him invaluable lessons in empathy and genuine care for others, principles that became integral to his approach at King's Treatment Center and beyond.

Caitlin Doornbos covers the White House, Congress and foreign policy from Washington, DC for The New York Post. In 2024, she deployed to the frontlines of the Ukraine War, embedding with Ukrainian troops to report on their fierce fight against the invading Russian military. She frequently appears on televised news broadcasts and works as a regular US-based correspondent for Times Radio London in the United Kingdom. She is a member of the White House Correspondents' Association, the National Press Club, Society for Professional Journalists and the Military Reporters and Editors association.

Previously, she reported from the Pentagon for Stars and Stripes after covering the Navy’s 7th Fleet as the military newspaper's Indo-Pacific correspondent at Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan for nearly four years. Prior to that, she worked as a breaking news and crime reporter for the Lawrence Journal-World in Lawrence, Kan., and Orlando Sentinel in Orlando, Fla., where she was part of the Orlando Sentinel team that placed as finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news.

Caitlin has a bachelor of science in journalism from the University of Kansas and master's degree in defense and strategic studies from the University of Texas at El Paso. She attended USD 308 schools from 1996 to 2010, when she graduated from Hutchinson High School. There, she was deeply involved in theater and was a member of the school's Saltshakers dance team. She also discovered her love of journalism at Hutchinson High School, first learning her craft in broadcast journalism classes as a part of HHS' vocational technology program.&nbsp;

Her parents remain in Hutchinson, where she visits each year to comes home for the Kansas State Fair. Her mother, Shannon Stuckert, served as an educator teaching elementary and middle school students in USD 308 for 26 years, while her father, Jerry Stuckert, retired as a math professor at Hutchinson Community College.

Geneo Grissom, the son of Eugene and Kim Grissom, started his football journey in Hutchinson. Guided by Coach Dreiling, Grissom contributed to four straight State victories. The Salthawks made a nine-year title run. After graduation, Grissom attended the University of Oklahoma, under Bob Stoops, where he showcased his skills as a defensive end. There he accompanied the team to three Big 12 Championships. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. During his time with the Patriots, Grissom contributed to the team’s defense, earning two Super Bowl rings under Coach Bill Belichick. He later had stints with the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints.

Off the field, Grissom has been involved in various charitable initiatives, including youth mentoring programs. In addition to mentoring, he has participated in community events that promote fitness and well-being for children. Grissom has emphasized the importance of education and often engages in efforts to support underprivileged youth. Throughout his career, he has shown a commitment to giving back to the community. After his playing days, Grissom continued to be an advocate for health and fitness among young athletes. His involvement in philanthropic activities reflects his belief in using his platform to inspire others. 

Grissom's journey in football not only highlights his athletic achievements but also his dedication to making a positive impact off the field. Through both his sports and charitable efforts, Geneo Grissom has proven to be a well-rounded individual committed to excellence in all areas of life.

This champion’s resolve to not give up can be accredited to his father, Eugene, who told him, “If you commit your heart, you can accomplish anything.” He also attributes his success to his high school football coach, Scott Yantes, who believed in Geneo so much, that Geneo learned to believe himself.

Wall of Honor to induct three distinguished alumni

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Dillon Lecture Series will welcome Steve Ford, the son of former President Gerald R. Ford and Betty Ford, for a lecture as part of its 2024 series. Ford’s presentation will take place at the Hutchinson Sports Arena on Tuesday, September 17 at 10:30 a.m.

A teenager when his father assumed the reins of the presidency from Richard Nixon, Ford left the White House at age 18 to pursue his dream of being a cowboy on cattle ranches out West, followed closely by his ten secret service agents. Later in his life, he&nbsp;went on to a successful acting career, appearing in over 30 movies.

Before becoming an actor in 1980, Steve worked on the professional rodeo circuit as a team roper and served three years on the Board of Directors of The National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City and currently serves on the Board of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation.

He is highly sought after nationally as a motivational speaker for corporate events relating to his inspiring experiences during his family’s stay in the White House and his years in Hollywood.

Steve speaks about his own successful battle overcoming alcoholism and shares with audiences inspiring stories of character and leadership that lead to the Ford family’s success which will help audiences rethink their own lives.

Tickets to the lecture will be available beginning at 9:45 a.m. the day of the lecture at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

For the second-straight week, Hutchinson Community College sophomore running back&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2024-25/bios/jordan_jr._waymond_h58l">Waymond Jordan Jr.</a>&nbsp;was named the KJCCC Football Offensive Player of the Week.

The sophomore from Pensacola, Florida become the first Blue Dragon since linebacker K'Von Sherman last season to earn league Player of the Week awards in consecutive weeks. Jordan is the first Blue Dragon offensive player to earn awards in back-to-back weeks since Tyrell Reed Jr. last season on October 3 and 10, 2023.

Jordan had another huge game as No. 2 Hutchinson defeated No. 1 Iowa Western 38-37 on Saturday in Council Bluffs, IA. Jordan rushed for 174 yards on 24 carries and 26-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Jordan helped the Blue Dragons rush for 2:54 yards as a team against the Reivers in the No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Jordan has now had back-to-back 170-plus yards games and leads the nation in rushing with 353 yards in two games.

Hutchinson Community College freshman midfielder&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2024-25/bios/artmann_kira_vs31">Kira Artmann</a>&nbsp;was named the KJCCC Division I Women's Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Artmann a freshman from Boblingen, Germany, had a four-point week for the No. 18 Blue Dragons (3-1-1).

Artmann tallied an assist in Hutchinson's 3-0 victory over Dodge City last Wednesday. The midfielder then scored a goal and tallied an assist in the Blue Dragons' 3-2 road loss at No. 10 Butler on Saturday.

For the season, Artmann now has two goals and three assists for seven points. She has one game-winning goal to her credit. She has scored at least one point in 4 of 5 games played this season.

The top two teams in last week's NJCAA Division I Football rankings switched places on Monday after Saturday's scintillating contest between the two teams in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The Hutchinson Community College football team assumed the top spot in Monday's latest rankings after a 38-37 victory at Iowa Western on Saturday. The game came down to Iowa Western going for two and missing after scoring a touchdown with 3 seconds remaining in regulation. The game featured the second-most combined points scored in series history and the 982 combined total yards were the most in the 10 games played between the Blue Dragons and Reivers.

The Blue Dragons (2-0) earned their sixth all-time No. 1 ranking in program history, capturing all 12 first-place votes.

Since head coach Drew Dallas took over the program before the 2020/21 season, 56 national polls have been released. The Blue Dragons have been No. 1 in 30 of those 56 polls.

The Dragons have now been ranked in the Top 3 of the national rankings for 31 consecutive polls.

Hutchinson has now been ranked in 36 consecutive NJCAA rankings dating back to the second regular-season poll of the 2021 season. That is the third-longest consecutive run in the national poll in program history. The Blue Dragons were ranked in 45-straight polls from 2010 to 2013 and in 38 consecutive polls from 2018 to 2021.

The Top 5 saw a shakeup after the switch at Nos. 1 and 2. Snow and Kilgore flip-flopped spots at Nos. 3 and 4 and Mississippi Gulf Coast vaulted into the No. 5 spot.

Highland's victory over previous-No. 8 Iowa Central helped the Scotties jump up to No. 11. Iowa Central dropped to No. 12. Garden City reappears in the poll after a decisive win over Dodge City at No. 14. Butler is receiving votes this week.

The Blue Dragons play host to No. 12 Iowa Central at Noon on Saturday at Gowans Stadium.

The Blue Dragons stayed at No. 18 in the latest rankings after a 3-0 victory over a much-improved Dodge City team and a 3-2 road loss at No. 10 Butler last week. The Blue Dragons are now 3-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the Jayhawk Conference.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Mary Magdalene House is holding a class Sept. 16 on strategies to help intervene in the lives of those harming themselves.

According to Mental Health America, research indicates that self-injury occurs in approximately 5% of adults in the United States. Rates are higher among adolescents, with approximately 17% of teens reporting some form of self-injury. Studies show an even higher risk for self-injury among college students, with rates from 17 to 35 percent.

The Blue Dragons won their third-straight season opener on August 29 as <a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2024-25/bios/jordan_jr._waymond_h58l" style="color: rgb(204, 45, 55);font-size: 14px;">Waymond Jordan Jr.</a> rushed for 179 of Hutchinson&apos;s 365 rushing yards in a 42-10 victory over New Mexico Military at Gowans Stadium. The Blue Dragons amassed 502 total yards against the Broncos and earned a decisive victory despite going a minus 2 in turnover ratio.
Hutchinson&apos;s defense held New Mexico Military, one of the top passing teams in the NJCAA in 2023 to just 165 yards through the air with one interception.
Iowa Western needed overtime on the road to defeat Georgia Military in its season opener last Saturday. The Reivers won 42-41 and had to made an overtime stop on a two-point conversion to secure the victory. The Reivers rolled up 539 yards total offense as quarterback Hunter Dekkers threw for 396 yards and a touchdown. Iowa Western rushed for four touchdowns against Georgia Military.
The Blue Dragons are 39-4 under fifth-year head coach Drew Dallas. The Dragons are 17-3 under Dallas in nationally ranked matchups and 13-3 in battles of Top 10 programs.
Saturday is the first in what could be three games of Hutchinson&apos;s next four in which opponents could be ranked. This week Iowa Central, Hutchinson&apos;s opponent next week at Gowans Stadium, is No. 8. After Ellsworth on September 28, Dodge City comes to Gowans on October 5 currently ranked No. 15.</div>

🏈 No. 2 Hutchinson travels to No. 1 Iowa Western Saturday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — If someone asked you - have you seen the Rose Garden Memorial monument dedicated to early Reno County Pioneers at the Kansas State Fair? What would you say? Well, most people haven't seen it although it has been there since 1961. It was hidden behind a vendor and some metal college mascots just northeast of the Information and Visitor's Center.

Reno County Commissioner Randy Parks headed the project to move the monument to a more visible location when his son, Ryan Parks asked him if he had ever seen the monument at the fairgrounds. 

With the help of the Kansas State Fair Board, Ward Davis Builders, Woolsey Monument Co., Stutzman Greenhouse and Andy Fry - State Farm Insurance agent, the monument is now located in a highly visible area surrounded by flowers just north of Lake Talbott. There is a walkway going from the Lowen Corporation Free Stage up to the monument.

The monument moved from just west of the Eisenhower Building to between the Professional Arts buildings, just north of Lake Talbott and south of the 4-H Centennial Building. According to the date on the monument, the Rose Garden Memorial was dedicated by the Reno County Historical Society on September 10, 1961.A story from The Hutchinson News on September 11, 1961, said that 125 persons attended the dedication of the Reno County Historical Society's Memorial Rose Garden at the State Fairgrounds. The marble scroll didn't arrive in time for the dedication, but it was installed later.&nbsp;

In a news story earlier in 1961 from The Hutchinson News on March 26, 1961, the memorial rose garden was located on the fairgrounds fronting on 20th (Ave.), immediately west of the entrance. "The committee plans to plant 100 bushes within a few days and a dedicatory service is planned. Members of pioneer families of the country are being invited to contribute to the rose fund with roses memorializing families and friends. The plants will cost $5 for planting, identification and care, John Fontron, chairman of the committee, said."

Commissioner Parks' son Randy Parks II also added a metal clock hand to the center of the sun dial since the original one was missing.&nbsp;

With the help of the Kansas State Fair Board, Ward Davis Builders, Woolsey Monument Co., Stutzman Greenhouse and Andy Fry - State Farm Insurance agent, the monument is now located in a highly visible area surrounded by flowers just north of Lake Talbott. There is a walkway going from the Lowen Corporation Free Stage up to the monument.The monument moved from just west of the Eisenhower Building to between the Professional Arts buildings, just north of Lake Talbott and south of the 4-H Centennial Building. According to the date on the monument, the Rose Garden Memorial was dedicated by the Reno County Historical Society on September 10, 1961.A story from The Hutchinson News on September 11, 1961, said that 125 persons attended the dedication of the Reno County Historical Society's Memorial Rose Garden at the State Fairgrounds. The marble scroll didn't arrive in time for the dedication, but it was installed later.&nbsp;In a news story earlier in 1961 from The Hutchinson News on March 26, 1961, the memorial rose garden was located on the fairgrounds fronting on 20th (Ave.), immediately west of the entrance. "The committee plans to plant 100 bushes within a few days and a dedicatory service is planned. Members of pioneer families of the country are being invited to contribute to the rose fund with roses memorializing families and friends. The plants will cost $5 for planting, identification and care, John Fontron, chairman of the committee, said."Commissioner Parks' son Randy Parks II also added a metal clock hand to the center of the sun dial since the original one was missing.&nbsp;

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kansas State Treasurer Steven Johnson and the Learning Quest 529 Education Savings Plan are celebrating National College Savings Month and the start of the Kansas State Fair with a $50 giveaway to the first 500 newly established Learning Quest 529 accounts opened during the duration of the 2024 Kansas State Fair (September 6 - 15).

State Treasurer announces $50 Learning Quest 529 giveaway during Kansas State Fair

ODESSA, Texas – After dropping two straight matches to open the OC Invitational, the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team got back to a balanced offensive attack to sweep Vernon College in the third of four matches at the OC Sports Center.

The Blue Dragons opened the day falling to No. 14 New Mexico Junior College 20-25, 13-25, 21-25. The Dragons climbed back to the .500 mark for the season later on Friday with a 25-10, 25-22, 25-22 victory over Vernon.

Hutchinson (7-7) will play Panola College at 8 a.m. on Saturday to close out the OC Invitational.

🏐 Blue Dragons split on Day 2 in Texas

Aaron Lee Eggers, 82, died September 3, 2024, at Good Samaritan in Hutchinson. He was born September 29, 1941, in Garden City, to Theodore Obodore and Della Gertrude (Herter) Eggers.

Aaron graduated from Salt City Business College, Hutchinson. He worked as an accountant/office manager for the now defunct, Betts Bakery from the late 60’s to the early 70’s, he then worked for KWCH channel 12 to the early 80’s, went back to Betts Bakery for a while, then became a realtor for Plaza Astle until retirement.

Bowling was Aaron’s passion, he loved to bowl and was a member of several bowling leagues. He also enjoyed doing carpentry and working with his hands.

On September 22, 1962, he married Phyllis Lorene McMullen, in Ellinwood. She survives.

Other survivors include: children, Todd and Heather Eggers; brother, Doug Eggers all of Hutchinson; 3 nieces and nephews; and 7 great- nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Tim Adrian officiating. A private family inurnment will take place in Lakin Comanche Cemetery. Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

One week after bouncing then-No. 9 Indian Hills in the McCook Invitational, the Blue Dragons got off to a slow start and fell to the Wranglers 25-12, 25-17, 27-25 in the first of four matches this weekend.

The Blue Dragons (6-5) will play No. 14 New Mexico Junior College at Noon and Vernon College at 5 p.m. on Friday in Matches 2 and 3 of the OC Invitational.

Sophomore Tiana Simmons, one night after her huge night against Seward County, had a team-high nine kills against Odessa. Simmons added two block assists.

Freshman outside hitter Viktoria Graf had eight kills and Atlyn Proctor was next with five kills.

Sophomore setter Shelbi Wilson guided the Blue Dragon offense with 23 assists.

Freshman libero Addy Foster reached double figures in digs for the 10th time in 11 matched with 11 digs. Freshmen Brooke Galey and Siani Sanchez had six digs each.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — StartUp Hutch, in conjunction with The City of Hutchinson – Human Relations Office and NetWork Kansas, invite the public to join the excitement as local entrepreneurs present their business ideas at the Pitch Contest on Monday, September 16th. The event will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Blue Dragon Room at the Parker Student Union on the Hutchinson Community College campus. 

This dynamic event is the culmination of the Entrepreneurship Business Basics JUMP© (EBB Jump) program, a 12-week course designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs turn their ideas into reality. During the contest, participants will showcase their business pitches to a panel of judges in hopes of winning a share of $2,000 in prize money. 

“We’re thrilled to see the creativity and ambition that local entrepreneurs will bring to the Pitch Contest,” said Jackson Swearer, executive director of StartUp Hutch. “This event is an opportunity to witness the next wave of business innovation in Reno County and support the growth of our entrepreneurial community.” 

Community members, business leaders, and supporters of local entrepreneurship are encouraged to attend the event to cheer on the contestants and get inspired by their innovative ideas.  

The Pitch Contest marks the finale of the EBB Jump program, which has been instrumental in equipping participants with essential business skills, insights, and resources over the past three months. Led by facilitator Kira Cheree’ Cobb, the course has provided a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to accelerate their business growth and gain the confidence needed to succeed.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College football team is No. 2 in the latest Top 15 poll, released by the NJCAA Tuesday afternoon.

The Blue Dragons moved up a spot after defeating New Mexico Military Institute last Thursday at Gowans Stadium. Previous No. 2 East Mississippi lost its first game of the season on Thursday.

Hutchinson (1-0) will travel to Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Saturday for a date with No. 1 Iowa Western (1-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Titan Stadium at Lewis-Central High School. You can listen to the game on KHUT-FM (102.9) and KWBW-AM/FM with Sean Boston (play-by-play) and Daren Dunn (color) calling the action.

Highland and Dodge City both enter the poll, as the two other Jayhawk Conference teams ranked. Highland is No. 13 and Dodge City No. 15.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team is No. 18 in the latest Top 20 poll released by the NJCAA on Tuesday afternoon.

The Blue Dragons are 2-0-1 overall, 1-0-1 in the KJCCC. HutchCC hosts Dodge City on Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex at 6 p.m. The Blue Dragons travel to El Dorado on Saturday at 7 p.m. for a Top 20 showdown with Butler.

⚽ Blue Dragons No. 18 in latest NJCAA poll

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College freshman Faith Jepchirchir has been named the Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the KJCCC announced on Tuesday.

Jepchirchir made history on Friday at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic, becoming the first-ever Blue Dragon to win the individual title. She did so in a time of 18:17.00, the ninth-fastest time overall in the eight-year history of the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic.

Jepchirchir won the race by over 16 seconds over Elizabeth Hernandez of Butler.

The Pensacola, Fla. native rushed for a career-high 179 yards and two touchdowns in the Blue Dragons' win over New Mexico Military Institute on Thursday at Gowans Stadium.

Jordan Jr. has rushing scores of 26 and 54 yards. The 54-yard run early in the second half was the longest career rushing attempt. He averaged just under 13 yards per carry in the 42-10 victory.&nbsp;

Leonard Dale (Len) Friesen, a resident at Pleasant View Home in Inman, KS, died September 1, 2024, at the age 85. &nbsp;He was the second son of Leonard Flaming and Louise Grace (Thiessen) Friesen. &nbsp;Len graduated from Inman High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at Emporia State Teachers College. &nbsp;He spent many years as a Sales Rep in the Delco Division of General Motors.

Survivors include brother, Raymond Friesen, Inman; sisters, Verbie Friesen Thiessen, Inman Judie Friesen Willems, Hesston; sister-in-law, Shirley Knackstedt Friesen, Inman; son, Bradley Friesen Lee and Wife Denise, Texas; 3 granddaughters; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. &nbsp;

Preceding him in death are his parents; and a brother, Gerald Dean (Jerry) Friesen, Inman.

Graveside service and Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. &nbsp;Memorial Contributions are suggested to Pleasant View Home and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502.
