The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team is ranked No. 6 in the latest rankings released by the NJCAA on Monday afternoon.

Although the Blue Dragons went 2-0 last week, they moved down a spot in the poll.

Three KJCCC teams are in the Top 25, led by Dodge City at No. 4, Hutchinson at No. 5 and Coffeyville at No. 22. Butler is receiving votes.

HutchCC is 19-1 overall, 13-1 in the Jayhawk Conference and will travel to Colby on Wednesday to face the Trojans at 5:30 p.m.

The game will be broadcasted on flagship station Country 102.9 (KHUT-FM) and sister stations KWBW (1450-AM/98.5-FM).

🏀 HutchCC women move down a spot in rankings 

Burtt D. Roberts, 59, died January 25, 2025, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Burtt was born September 29, 1965, in Hillsboro, KS, to Stuart Lee and Jahnice M. “Jan” (Davis) Roberts.

Burtt graduated from Hanover High School in 1984 and Hutchinson Community College with an Associates Degree in Computer Aided Design (CAD). He worked as a CAD operator for Keystone Railway Equipment and then Krause Plow. He enjoyed dirt track racing, Wichita Thunder Hockey, watching Bob Ross Painting, playing video games and fishing, both in real life and the video games. His everyday enjoyment came from feeding Nutkin, the local squirrel, and spending time with his family especially his granddaughter, Brinlee.

Burtt is survived by: twin sons, Bryce and Brady Roberts, Hutchinson; granddaughter, Brinlee Roberts, Hutchinson; brother, Bartt Roberts, Hutchinson; nephews, Christopher and Matthew Roberts, McPherson; and great-nephew, Jonathon Roberts, McPherson.

Cremation has taken place with a graveside service planned for a later date at Fairview Cemetery, Cheney, KS.

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team posted the sixth-largest margin of victory with the fourth-largest offensive output in program history on Saturday to run its Sports Arena winning streak to 27 games.

Six players scored in double figures while all 11 Blue Dragons to suit up scored as Hutchinson shot a season-high 55.3 percent in a 114-39 victory over Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

The fifth-ranked Blue Dragons improved to 19-1 overall and 13-1 in the KJCCC. Hutchinson travels to Colby at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Colby Events Center. Fort Hays Tech Northwest fell to 1-18 overall and 1-13 in league play.

The 114 points scored was the fourth-highest total in the 51-year history of the Blue Dragon program, but only the second-highest output this season. Hutchinson scored 122 points against Neosho County in November. The Blue Dragons' 75-point margin of victory tied for the sixth largest in team history matching a 107-32 victory over the Bethany College JV on November 1, 2018.

Jackson was 4 of 7 from the field and 8 of 8 from the free-throw line. She scored nine points in Hutchinson's initial 11-0 run over the 2 minutes, 18 second of the game and had 15 points in the first half.

Jackson also moved into the Blue Dragon career Top 20 scoring list. She has 838 career points.

🏀 No. 5 Blue Dragons roll by Tigers

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team fought back from an early first-half deficit to lead at halftime, but Fort Hays Tech Northwest guard Chase Harris exploded in the second half and the Blue Dragons weren't able to recover.

Harris scored 19 of his game-high 23 points in the second half as the Tigers upset the No. 23-ranked Blue Dragons 75-61 at the Sports Arena.

Hutchinson lost its second-straight game and fell to 13-7 overall and 9-5 in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons travel to Colby at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fort Hays Tech Northwest is now 6-12 overall and 4-10 in league play.

The Blue Dragons trailed by as many as six points in the second half, but battled back to lead 31-29 at halftime. The Tigers shot 53.3 percent in the second half and led by Harris' 19 points in the final 20 minutes, they outscored the Blue Dragons 46-30.

Freshman Bo Aldridge scored a team-high 19 points and finished with six rebounds to lead the Blue Dragons. Aldridge was 6 of 11 from the floor with two 3-pointers and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/arnold_khalil_9vae">Khalil Arnold</a>&nbsp;finished with 11 points and four rebounds. D.J. Dudley had 10 points, three assists and three steals.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/cannon_bobby_1l4l">Bobby Cannon</a>&nbsp;just missed a double-double with nine points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

The Blue Dragons finished shooting 41.1 percent (23 of 56), going 5 of 20 from 3-point range and 10 of 18 from the free-throw line. The Blue Dragons were out-rebounded by Fort Hays Tech Northwest 38-30 and turned the ball over 15 times.

Harris finished 10 of 16 shooting with three 3-pointers to lead the Tigers. Kalik Sharpe finished with 17 points while Harold Thompkins had 10 points.

The Tigers finished shooting 48.1 percent (26 of 64), hitting 9 of 23 from 3-point range and 14 of 22 from the foul line. The Tigers have 15 turnovers.

Idris Williams hit a jumper with 14:18 to play in the first half to give the Tigers a 9-4 lead. The Dragon deficit grew to five points at 11-6 after a Harris score with 13:08 to play. The Dragons went on a 7-2 run and tied the game on a&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/smith_kobe_85qc">Kobe Smith</a>&nbsp;floater in the paint to tie the game at 13-13. The Dragons also tied the game at 17-all and 20-all.

The Tigers used a 7-1 run to lead 27-21 after a Marquintez Dixon jumper with 4:53 to play in the half. The Blue Dragons answered with a 7-0 run over the next 1:40, taking a 28-27 lead on a Cannon 3-pointer with 3:17 remaining in the half.

Tech Northwest led 29-28 after two Thompkins free throws with 2:06 left. Dudley answered to tie the game at 29 after a Dudley free throw and led 31-29 after a Dudley jumper with 55 seconds to go. The Dragons shot only 38.5 percent while the Tigers shot 41.7 percent in the first half, but Hutchinson led 31-29 at halftime.

The Tigers opened the second half on a 7-2 run and took a 36-33 lead on a Francisco Monreal inside hoop with 17:38 to play. The Blue Dragons never gained the lead again, but trailed from one to five points for the next 12 minutes.

Trailing by two points, the Dragons tied the game at 54-all after a huge Aldridge left-handed dunk with 5:59 remaining in the second half. The Tigers scored the next five points. Aldridge countered with a 3-pointer to pull within 59-57 with 4:41 left. Fort Hays Tech Northwest closed out the game with a 16-4 run over the final 4:03.

The Blue Dragons won the team title after scoring 58.5 points. Coffeyville was second with 48.25 points and Barton was third with 48 points.

Thid captured his first event title of the season, winning the 600-meter run with a meet-record time of 1:19.42. That's the second-fastest indoor 600 time in Blue Dragon history and is just .07 seconds off the Hutchinson school record. Thid's time also eclipsed the NJCAA national qualifying standard. Teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/lester_da-shawn_ptrw">Da'Shawn Lester</a>&nbsp;just missed qualifying for nationals with a third-place time of 1:20.89, which ranks fourth in team history, just .25 seconds off the national qualifying standard.

Freshman sprinter&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/makalo_kebba_vl76">Kebba Makalo</a>&nbsp;qualified for nationals in two events on Saturday. Makalo posted the fourth-fastest indoor 200-meter time in Blue Dragon history and qualified for nationals with a time of 21.54 seconds. Makalo placed sixth in the 60 meters and qualified with a time of 6.80 seconds, which tied for eighth in Blue Dragon indoor history.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/mangelson_farrin_7y5g">Farrin Mangelson</a>&nbsp;was Hutchinson's fourth qualifiers on Saturday, placing third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:32.83, which is the second-fastest time in program history. Right behind Mangelson was teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/kogo_cornelius_hf87">Cornelius Kogo</a>, who placed third with a time of 8:34.75, which is the third-fastest Blue Dragon time and just .23 seconds off the national qualifying standard.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/kiprotich_titus_hgfs">Titus Kiprotich</a>&nbsp;was fifth in a time of 8:37.72.

PITTSBURG – Freshman shot putter&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2024-25/bios/montaque_janiel_88cd">Janiel Montaque</a>&nbsp;punched her ticket to the NJCAA Indoor national championships to lead the Hutchinson Community College women's track and field team on Saturday at the NAIA/JUCO Challenge at the Robert Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State University.

The Blue Dragons tied Colby for seventh place in the team standings with 27 points. Barton won with 97 team points. Cloud County was second with 90.5 points.

Montaque was the only new qualifier for the Blue Dragons – Hutchinson now has three national qualifiers through two meets this season. She was one of seven Top 10 all-time Blue Dragon performances.

Montaque placed fifth in the shot put with a national-qualifying throw of 41 feet, 7 1/4 inches (12.68 meters), which ranks eighth in Blue Dragon women's indoor history. Teammate Deisheline Mayer Scott, who qualified last week in the Washburn Rust Buster, posted a personal record in the shot put with a distance of 44-8 1/2 (13.63 meters). The shot put ranks fourth in team history. Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2024-25/bios/green_aiyanna_nkel">Aiyanna Green</a>&nbsp;placed eighth in the event at 41-5 (12.62 meters).

Sophomore Laura Avila placed ninth in the 3,000 meters with a PR time of 10:46.47, which is the third-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history.

That mark is just .31 seconds off the national qualifying standard. The No. 23-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team is back at home on Saturday afternoon to face off against the Fort Hays Tech Northwest Tigers in the second of a two-game homestand for the Blue Dragons.

Tipoff for the Blue Dragons (13-6, 9-4 KJCCC) and Tigers (5-12, 3-10 KJCCC) is set for 4 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 3:45 p.m. with Steve Carpenter (play-by-play) and Dan Naccarato (analyst) calling the action. The game will be streamed live and free on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 3:45 p.m.

The Blue Dragons look to rebound from their first loss in the last eight outings after Barton came into the Sports Arena and defeated the Blue Dragons 91-86.

The Dragons shot 50 percent for the fourth-straight game - that's the longest streak of 50-percent shooting games since the 2020-21 season - and hit 11 of 18 3-pointers. The Blue Dragons allowed 22 offensive rebounds and had 16 turnovers. Freshman Bo Aldridge led Hutchinson with 19 points, seven rebounds and fifth assists. D.J. Dudley had 17 points.

Fort Hays Tech Northwest lost at Coffeyville 81-75 on Thursday night. Idris Williams and Da'King Smith had 20 points each to lead the Tigers, which trailed 44-28 at halftime. The closest the Tigers got in the second half was six points.

Hutchinson and Fort Hays Tech Northwest played an overtime game in their first meeting of the season on November 23 in Goodland. The Blue Dragons prevailed 94-89.

Dudley hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/cannon_bobby_1l4l">Bobby Cannon</a>&nbsp;sank a 2- and 3-pointers to start regulation.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/thornton_jaquez_fh4s">Jaquez Thornton</a>'s and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/abdul-hamid_mikhail_7s9c">Mikhail Abdul-Hamid</a>'s 3-pointers that created two-possession leads in overtime as the Dragons outscored the Tigers 17-12 in OT.

Cannon posted his first career double-double in the first Fort Hays Tech Northwest meeting of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Dudley had 24 points.

The Blue Dragons are now 17-1 all-time against Fort Hays Tech Northwest with a 10-0 record in games played at the Sports Arena.

Hutchinson is 7-3 at the Sports Arena this season.

The No. 5-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team had a nice bounce-back victory on Wednesday night to open its current two-game homestand.

The first-place Blue Dragons look to close out the two-game run at the Sports Arena on Saturday afternoon with a victory over the Fort Hays Tech Northwest Tigers in a 2 p.m. tipoff.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 1:45 p.m. with Steve Carpenter (play-by-play) and Dan Naccarato (analyst) calling the action. Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/forbes_landon_o30r">Landon Forbes</a>&nbsp;hit seven 3-point goals and scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Blue Dragons (18-1) to a 63-46 victory over the Barton Cougars on Wednesday at the Sports Arena. That was only the 14th time in program history a Blue Dragon player had at least seven 3-point goals in a single game.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_hailey_q6t6">Hailey Jackson</a>&nbsp;added 19 points to lead Hutchinson. Defensively, the Blue Dragons improved each quarter, eventually holding the Cougars to 39.8 percent shooting and forced 27 turnovers.

With the victory, the Blue Dragons maintained a first-place tie in the KJCCC with 12-1 records.

Fort Hays Tech Northwest (1-16, 1-12 KJCCC) will have a day less to prep for the Blue Dragons. The Tigers traveled to and played Coffeyville on Thursday and fell to the No. 22 Red Ravens 79-35. Al'asia Brown had 12 points to lead the Tigers, who had 26 turnovers and shot only 28.8 percent from the floor.

The Blue Dragons rolled to an 88-35 victory over the Tigers in the teams' first meeting of the season on November 23 in Goodland. The Dragons shot 55 percent and had three players score in double figures led by Jackson's 15 points and 11 rebounds.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/anthon_noelle_y5iv">Noelle Anthon</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/wilson_jaden_n2q0">Jaden Wilson</a>&nbsp;had 11 points each. Hutchinson has won 13 consecutive games over the Tigers and are 14-1 overall in a series that began in only 2013.

🏀 Blue Dragons close homestand with Tigers

&nbsp;David Charles "Dave" Brill, 81, of Wichita, KS, passed away on January 20, 2025, at Hospice House in Hutchinson, KS. He was born on February 18, 1943, in Dodge City, KS, to Claude and Pauline (Ary) Brill.&nbsp;

David graduated from Lewis High School in 1961 and earned his bachelor's degree in business from the University of Kansas in 1965. A natural athlete, he participated in basketball, football, and track at Lewis High School. He attended the University of Kansas on a full basketball scholarship and was proud to play for the Jayhawks from 1961 to 1965. After college, David worked for Farmland Industries for over 30 years, a career well-suited to his upbringing and experience working on the Brill family farm.&nbsp;

With his outgoing and friendly personality, David never met a stranger. Wherever he traveled, he seemed to know someone. He remained an avid supporter of his beloved Jayhawks, attending both football and basketball games. He also enjoyed playing golf, boating, and spending time at his Oklahoma lake house with his wife, Donna Sue Frey, whom he married on April 8, 2000, in Hutchinson, KS. David had a gift for working with his hands and could create or fix nearly anything.&nbsp;

David is survived by his wife of almost 25 years, Donna Brill of Wichita; his sister, Patty Foss (Dan) of Hutchinson; his niece, Tara Connors; and his great-nieces, Dorian Connors and Tenley Connors, all of Tampa, FL. After marrying Donna, David's family grew to include her daughter, Kim Letellier (Bruce) of Los Alamos, NM; grandchildren, Bethany Unruh (Phil) and Bryant Letellier; and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Jaxon Unruh, with one on the way. David is also survived by numerous cousins, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.&nbsp;

David was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Pauline Brill; his niece, Amanda Foss; and his nephew, Tyler Foss.&nbsp;

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Mike Whitworth officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Friends may sign the guestbook from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday, January 29, at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp;

Hutchinson is now 18-1 overall, 12-1 in the Jayhawk Conference. The Blue Dragons finished off the regular season sweep of the Cougars.&nbsp;

Landon Forbes knocked down seven 3-pointers for a career-high 21 points to lead the Blue Dragons. The seven made 3-pointers were one shy of tying the single-game record in program history. Forbes also dished off six assists and tallied four steals, and did not commit a turnover.

Hailey Jackson scored 19 points to go along with six rebounds.&nbsp;

🏀 Forbes' seven 3-pointers lift Blue Dragons past Cougars

Betty J. Harmony, 97, died January 20, 2025, at Legend of Hutchinson. She was born November 24, 1927, in Medford, OK, to Peter and Marie (Pauls) Androes.

Betty graduated from Berean Academy, Newton, and Adela Hale Business College. She was the office manager and accountant for Harmony Cleaning Services for over 45 years. Betty enjoyed being outside in nature; spending time gardening, sitting on her patio watching birds and camping at Kanopolis Lake. Betty’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Union Valley Bible Church, Hutchinson.

On September 5, 1952, she married Charles E. Harmony, in Hutchinson. They shared over 63 years of marriage prior to his death on June 16, 2016.

Betty is survived by: children, Beverly Harmony, Kenny Harmony, Charles (Lora) Harmony, all of Hutchinson; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Willard (Kathleen) Androes, Melba Langenegger and Mary Lou (Robert) Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son, Richard Harmony; stepdaughter, Janice Shelley; sister, Dorothy Foust; and brothers, Leslie Androes and Paul Androes.

She was born November 24, 1927, in Medford, OK, to Peter and Marie (Pauls) Androes.Betty graduated from Berean Academy, Newton, and Adela Hale Business College. She was the office manager and accountant for Harmony Cleaning Services for over 45 years. Betty enjoyed being outside in nature; spending time gardening, sitting on her patio watching birds and camping at Kanopolis Lake. Betty’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Union Valley Bible Church, Hutchinson.On September 5, 1952, she married Charles E. Harmony, in Hutchinson. The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team opens the second trip through the Jayhawk Conference Wednesday night with a home matchup against the defending NJCAA national champions.

Winners of seven-consecutive games, the now-No. 23-ranked Blue Dragons (13-5, 9-3 KJCCC) play host to the Barton Cougars (14-4, 8-4 KJCCC) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. Barton fell out of the NJCAA Top 25 this week, but is receiving votes.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 7:15 p.m. with Sean Boston (play-by-play) and Dan Naccarato (analyst) calling the action. The game will be streamed live and free on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 7:15 p.m.

Entering the second half of league play, the Blue Dragons are tied with Butler for third place at 9-3 and trail first-place Cowley by two games with 12 games to play. Barton is alone in fifth and trail the Tigers by three games.

The Blue Dragons won their seventh-straight game on Saturday, rallying from a seven-point second-half deficit to defeat Dodge City 69-64 at Dodge City. The Dragons are now 5-1 in true road games. Both Bo Aldridge and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_isaiah_jg1r">Isaiah Jackson</a>&nbsp;posted double-doubles as the Blue Dragons shot better than 50 percent (51.8 percent) for the third-straight game.

One week ago, the Cougars let a huge lead slip away against Independence and lost 112-111 in overtime. Barton rallied against No. 12 Coffeyville on Saturday for a 75-64 victory in Great Bend. Brent Moss led the Cougars with 17 points as Barton's defense forced 23 Red Raven turnovers.

Barton outlasted the Blue Dragons on a 96-91 overtime win in the first meeting on November 20 in Great Bend. That game was Hutchinson's seventh-straight loss to the Cougars in the series. Barton had an 11-point lead in the second half, but the Blue Dragons rallied to force overtime. Bo Aldridge had 21 points to lead the Blue Dragons. Keandre Kindel had 19 points to lead Barton.

Hutchinson and Barton play for the 128th time in series history.

The No. 5-ranked Blue Dragons (17-1, 11-1 KJCCC) open the second half of Jayhawk Conference play against the Barton Cougars (8-10, 4-8 KJCCC) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons lost for the first time in 54 games on Saturday as No. 3 Dodge City got hot from 3-point range in the second half in a 67-41 setback to the Conquistadors in a Top 3 national matchup. The Blue Dragons were held to season lows in points scored, field-goal percentage (22.6 percent) and 3-pointers (2 of 27). Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_hailey_q6t6">Hailey Jackson</a>&nbsp;had 17 points to lead the Blue Dragons.

Hutchinson is looking is looking to reignite its offense that has averaged only 46.5 points per game and has shot only 30.9 percent. Those numbers are 25.4 points and 10.2 percent, respectively, lower than Hutchinson's season averages.

Barton had leads as large as 11 points on Saturday against Coffeyville, but the Cougars fell in overtime 71-69 in Great Bend. That game snapped a three-game winning streak for the Cougars. Regina Donanu led the Cougars with 24 points while Vivian Onugha had 18 points.

Donanu is averaging 15.8 points per game over the last eight games to lead the Cougars.

Hutchinson won its first meeting with Barton this season, winning 59-43 on November 20 in Great Bend. The defending Region 6 Tournament champion Hutchinson Community College softball team opens the new season ranked No. 22 in the NJCAA Division I Softball preseason rankings, which were released on Tuesday.

This is the third-straight season the Blue Dragons start a season ranked in the preseason Top 25. Before the 2023 season, Hutchinson softball went through a 35-year drought of being named in a preseason poll.

The Blue Dragons posted a school-record 47 wins last season, going 47-12. The Dragons finished second in the KJCCC behind Butler by two games. Hutchinson then defeated Butler twice in the Region 6 championship game to win its first regional title since 1987 and qualify for the NJCAA National Tournament for the first time in program history.

Beginning her 21st season at Hutchinson, head coach Jaime Rose has one returning starting pitcher and three returning position players from last season.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/tomlinson_morgan_0v0v">Morgan Tomlinson</a>&nbsp;is the top returning pitcher. She went 16-3 with a 3.08 ERA. She led a Blue Dragon team that posted a 2.77 ERA. Tomlinson was a first-team all-KJCCC performer last season.

All-Conference shortstop&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/backhaus_bailey_44zk">Bailey Backhaus</a>&nbsp;is of three returning starters back from last season. Bailey Backhaus had a Blue Dragon single-season record 104 hits last season and hit .479 with 25 stolen bases.

Sister&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/backhaus_brooke_ngsp">Brooke Backhaus</a>, Hutchinson's starting first baseman last season hit .374 with 54 RBIs. Outfielder&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/brawner_brie_hldl">Brie Brawner</a>&nbsp;hit .371 with 37 RBIs.

Hutchinson opens the 2025 season on the road on Friday, January 31 with a doubleheader at Western Oklahoma State in Altus, Oklahoma. The Dragons open at Fun Valley on February 7 and 8 with a two-day triangular with Iowa Western and Neosho County. The Dragons play at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day. Hutchinson opens KJCCC play on February 26 against Pratt at Fun Valley.

🥎 HutchCC begins season ranked No. 22

The defending Jayhawk West champion and Region 6 runner-up Hutchinson Community College baseball team earned a No. 23 NJCAA preseason ranking on Tuesday.

Hutchinson earned its first preseason ranking since 2019 when the Blue Dragons were picked No. 20.

Last week the Blue Dragons were picked to finish third in the 2025 Jayhawk West title chase.

Hutchinson is the defending Jayhawk West champions after a record-setting 51-13 record. The Blue Dragons won the league with a 27-5 record. The Dragons advanced all the way to the Region 6 Tournament championship game, forcing a second championship game after dropping the first game of the tournament.

Second-year head coach Brock Nehls returns a pair of position starters and one returning starting pitcher with nine returning players overall from 2024.

Starting pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/roehler_trenton_pudh">Trenton Roehler</a>&nbsp;went 9-1 with a 1.52 ERA last season. Roehler had 66 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/maher_quinn_nqj4">Quinn Maher</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mustow_adam_sf8t">A.J. Mustow</a>&nbsp;are returning starting position players.Maher, a first baseman and designated hitter, hit .329 with five home runs and 51 RBIs. Mustow missed last season, but hit six homers with 44 RBIs.

The Blue Dragons won the league with a 27-5 record. The Dragons advanced all the way to the Region 6 Tournament championship game, forcing a second championship game after dropping the first game of the tournament.Second-year head coach Brock Nehls returns a pair of position starters and one returning starting pitcher with nine returning players overall from 2024.Starting pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/roehler_trenton_pudh">Trenton Roehler</a>&nbsp;went 9-1 with a 1.52 ERA last season. Roehler had 66 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched.<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/maher_quinn_nqj4">Quinn Maher</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mustow_adam_sf8t">A.J. Mustow</a>&nbsp;are returning starting position players.Maher, a first baseman and designated hitter, hit .329 with five home runs and 51 RBIs. Mustow missed last season, but hit six homers with 44 RBIs.The Blue Dragons open the 2025 season on February 6 with a doubleheader against Hesston College at Hobart-Detter Field. Hutchinson opens the Jayhawk West season on March 6 and 8 against Dodge City.The Blue Dragons and Conquistadors play at Hobart-Detter Field on March 8.

After a six-week absence from the national rankings, a seven-game win streak as propelled the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team back into the NJCAA Top 25.

The Blue Dragons (13-5) jumped back into the rankings at No. 23 on Tuesday – one day later than the poll's normal release because of the MLK holiday on Monday – after wins over Seward County and Dodge City extended a season-long seven-game win streak.

The last time the Dragons were in the national rankings was a No. 15 ranking on November 12. But a 6-5 start to the season sent Hutchinson out of the national poll.

This week, the Blue Dragons play host to Barton on Wednesday and Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Saturday.

The Cougars (14-4) fell out of the rankings this week after going 1-1 with a tough loss to Independence, but a win over then-No. Coffeyville last week.

Cowley is the highest-ranked KJCCC team in the rankings at No. 5. Coffeyville is No. 13 and Butler is No. 14.

Snow College received 15 of 16 first-place votes and remains No. 1. Trinity Valley is No. 2, followed by Indian Hills, Daytona State and Cowley rounds out the Top 5. NEO fell three spots to No. 6 this week.

Hutchinson Community College's program-record stay atop the NJCAA Division I National Rankings lasted 12 polling periods over two seasons and 343 consecutive calendar days.

Saturday's 67-41 loss at then-No. 3 Dodge City, knocked the Blue Dragons out of the top spot to No. 5 when the latest NJCAA rankings were released – one day later than normal because of the MLK holiday.

The Blue Dragons are now 17-1 overall and are tied with Dodge City atop the KJCCC at 11-1. The Blue Dragons have a pair of home games this week with Barton on Wednesday and Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Saturday.

With Hutchinson remaining in the Top 5, the Dragons have been ranked in the nation's Top 15 for 14 consecutive weeks and have been a ranked team for 23 consecutive polls, which started on November 13, 2023.

Northwest Florida State was the unanimous choice to take over the top spot in the rankings, putting together an 18-0 record. New Mexico Junior College (19-1), Three Rivers (15-2), Dodge City (16-2) and Hutchinson round out the Top 5.
