HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Bobby Cannon finished with a team-high 25 points in a 95-73 win for the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team over Cloud County on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

Cannon now has three 20-plus point games this season, as he secured his fourth straight double-figure scoring contest.

Hutchinson is now 16-9 overall, 12-7 in the Jayhawk Conference. The Blue Dragons remain in fifth place in the conference standings with five games to go.

Cloud County (11-14, 5-14) came out with a hot start, leading 16-6 with 11:43 to play in the first half.&nbsp;

After the Blue Dragons settled down and picked up the defensive intensity, the Thunderbirds struggled.

HutchCC held Cloud County to 12 points for the final 11:43 of the opening half, while the Blue Dragons went on a 28-12 run to lead 34-28 at halftime.

The Blue Dragons dominated the second half, scoring a season-best 64 points in the final 20 minutes. Hutchinson shot 60% from the floor in the second half, knocking down six 3-pointers and 16 of 17 from the foul line.&nbsp;

D.J. Dudley poured in 22 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds for his first double-double of his collegiate career. Bo Aldridge had 19 points, including three monster dunks. Mikhail Abdul-Hamid had 13 points, all coming in the second half.&nbsp;

Cloud County was led by Elidjah Savane with 26 points, including 10 of 16 from the stripe. Syncere Burnett had 20 to join Savane in double figures.&nbsp;

The Blue Dragons will travel to Ark City on Wednesday to face No. 8 Cowley College inside of W.S. Scott Auditorium. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcasted on KHUT-FM (102.9), the flagship station of Blue Dragon athletics.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hailey Jackson scored a game-high 22 points to lead the No. 8 Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team to a 71-66 win over Cloud County on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons are now 23-2 overall, 17-2 in the Jayhawk Conference. HutchCC remains tied with Dodge City for first place with five games remaining in the regular season.

Hutchinson trailed 19-18 after the first quarter, before outscoring Cloud County by seven in the second quarter to lead 36-30 at halftime.

The Blue Dragons built its largest lead of the game (14 points) with 4:58 to play in the third quarter following a Kahlen Norris jumper.&nbsp;

Cloud County (15-9, 10-9) ended the third quarter on a 10-3 run to pull within four going to the final frame.&nbsp;

After Hutch extended the lead to 63-55, Cloud County responded with back-to-back triples to pull within 63-61 with 4:08 to play.

The Blue Dragons finished the game on an 8-5 run to win by five and win their 27th straight game in the Sports arena.

Landon Forbes finished with 15 points, four rebounds, three steals and a career-high eight assists. Jada Pleasant contributed with 11 points.

TiAna Davis and Shea Wurtz each had 16 points to lead the Thunderbirds.&nbsp;

HutchCC shot 44% from the floor and knocked down six made 3-pointers. The Blue Dragons were plus-seven on the glass and scored 22 points off of 16 T-Bird turnovers.

Back into a first-place tie in the Jayhawk Conference, the No. 8-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team opens a key stretch of six games with the Cloud County Thunderbirds.

Five of Hutchinson's final six opponents are KJCCC upper division teams.
The Blue Dragons and No. 7 Dodge City are tied atop the Jayhawk with 16-2 league records. Just 1.5 games behind is third-place Coffeyville at 14-3 and Butler is fourth at 13-5. Cloud County, which is riding a three-game winning streak, is currently in seventh place in the KJCCC at 10-8. The Thunderbirds are in a battle to secure a Region 6 Tournament opening-round home game. They have a 2 1/2 game lead over their closest pursuers in Barton, Colby and Garden City.
The Blue Dragons have a short turnaround for Saturday's game coming off a Thursday 66-53 road victory at Garden City. Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_hailey_q6t6">Hailey Jackson</a>&nbsp;had a career-high 32 points to lead the Blue Dragons. Leading by only four points at halftime, Jackson scored 12 points in a decisive 21-10 third-quarter surge.
Despite its three-game winning streak, Cloud County is 5-5 in its last 10 games. The Thunderbirds earned a 64-50 victory over Independence last Saturday. Their Wednesday game with Coffeyville was postponed until Monday. Against the Pirates, the Thunderbirds were led by Talasia Thomas' 22 points. Defensively, Cloud County held Independence to 31.0 percent shooting.
The Blue Dragons won the first meeting with Cloud County this season, earning a 77-53 decision on December 14 in Concordia. Jackson had a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Dragons.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/alexander_dylan_dasd">Dylan Alexander</a>&nbsp;added 18 points. Facing a quick turnaround from a tough Thursday loss, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team is back at the Sports Arena for the first time since February 1st.
Just 46 hours after dropping a road game at Garden City, the Blue Dragons (15-9 overall, 11-7 KJCCC) meet the Cloud County Thunderbirds (11-13, 5-13) in a Jayhawk Conference contest at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Blitzed by 13 Garden City 3-point field goals, including seven in the second half, the Blue Dragons look to rebound from an 81-73 loss to the Broncbusters on Thursday - the game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but was moved back a day because of wintry weather.
The Blue Dragons out-shot and out-rebounded Garden City, but the Busters' 13 3-pointers and a 19-4 scoring advantage in points off turnovers were too much to overtime. Bo Aldridge had a game-high 15 points and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/cannon_bobby_1l4l">Bobby Cannon</a>&nbsp;had his third double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Under first-year head coach Kyle Pugh, Cloud County finds itself in 12th place in the Jayhawk Conference, but has a three-game lead over Seward County for the 12th and final spot in the upcoming Region 6 Tournament.
The Thunderbirds have had 10 full days off since they last played, which was a 77-64 loss to Colby on February 5. Cloud County received a forfeit from Independence last Saturday and Wednesday's scheduled game with Coffeyville was postponed to Monday.
The Blue Dragons won the first meeting with Cloud County on December 14, rallying from 16 points down in the second to earn a 77-73 victory. Jacquez Thornton paced the Dragon comeback with 27 points and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/arnold_khalil_9vae">Khalil Arnold</a>&nbsp;had 18 for Hutchinson. MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma &ndash; Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mazza_antony_9347">Anthony Mazza</a>&nbsp;combined for six hits and drove in for runs to lead the No. 23-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team to wins in the first two games of a three-game series on Friday at Rose State College.
The Blue Dragons won the series opener on Friday, defeating Rose State 4-1 as three Hutchinson pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts. The Dragons then had innings of eight runs and six runs in a Game 2 win of 14-4 in seven innings.
Hutchinson improves to 4-0 to start the season. The final game of the series will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday. That game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m., but was moved up because of potential weather issues.

After stranding five runners on base in the first three innings,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/hochstein_finn_ygit">Finn Hochstein</a>'s RBI single in the third lit the fuse for the Dragons' eight-run explosion in the fourth inning. The Dragons made it 2-0 on a well-executed safety squeeze bunt by Maher scored Glantz. The Dragons then scored six runs with two out in the inning. Mustow and Reid both had two-run doubles, Mazza added an RBI double and Glantz had a run-producing single. The Dragons sent 12 batters to the plate and had seven hits.
The Blue Dragons also had a season-high nine stolen bases, which tied for the sixth most in single-game program history. The Dragons executed a pair of double steals in a four-run sixth inning.
Pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/perry_gabe_wq1l">Gabe Perry</a>&nbsp;(2-0) earned his second victory of the season with 4 1-3 innings of work. Perry allowed six hits and four runs with five strikeouts and no walks.
Perry allowed four runs in the fifth inning as Rose State cut the Dragon lead to 9-4.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/rosser_lachlan_s3z7">Lachlan Rosser</a>&nbsp;got the final two outs of the fifth and worked the final 2 2-3 innings to close out the game. TOPEKA &ndash; Day 1 of the Ichabod Invitational was a quiet one for the Hutchinson Community College women's track and field team on Friday at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.
Three shot putters led the Dragons on Day 1. National qualifier Deisheline Mayer Scott was the top Blue Dragon finisher on Friday with a fifth-place performance of 44 feet, 2.75 inches (13.48 meters). Janiel Montague finished seventh in the event with a distance of 43-5 1/2 (13.42 meters).&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2024-25/bios/green_aiyanna_nkel">Aiyanna Green</a>&nbsp;was 17th with a distance of 38-9 3/4 (11.82 meters).

TOPEKA &ndash; Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/lester_da-shawn_ptrw">Da'Shawn Lester</a>&nbsp;led the Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team on Friday during Day 1 of the Ichabod Invitational with an individual event victory.
Lester won the 600-yard run with a time of 1:12.19 to lead a handful of players on Friday. Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/williams_elisha_7e2c">Elisha Williams</a>&nbsp;placed 11th in the event with a time of 1:14.08.

Eagle Radio Hutchinson Sportscaster Glen Grunwald has been selected by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters to receive the KSHSAA Oscar Stauffer Sportscaster of the Year Award for 2025. This marks the second time that Grunwald has been given this award, winning it for the first time in 2020.

Grunwald is the voice of the Hutchinson High Salthawks and formerly was the lead sportscaster for&nbsp; the Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragon football and men's basketball team broadcasts until stepping away last March after 26 years which included being on the call for the Blue Dragons NJCAA Men's D1 Basketball Championship in 2017 and their first NJCAA Football Championship in 2021.

Grunwald joins a fraternity of the state's finest broadcasters, including former winners, longtime KU voice Bob Davis (1975, current KU voice Brian Hanni (2010 and 2012) and K-State voice Wyatt Thompson (1989).

"To win it once was a thrill, to win it a second time with so many great broadcasters in Kansas....I am just so blessed to be even mentioned in the same breath as Bob, Wyatt an Brian is such a blessing this late in my career. I mean these guys are legends in Kansas Sportscasting history." Grunwald said on winning the award.

Eagle Radio as a company currently employs six winners. Junction City's Dewey Terrill won in 1991, 1995 and 1998. Gerard Wellbrock from Hays won in 1996, 1997 and 2000. Dustin Armbruster from Hays won in 2013 and 2022, Cole Reif from Great Bend won in 2018 and Devin Hanney from Salina won in 2019 prior to Grunwald's 2020 win and again in 2021.

Grunwald was
honored by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB) in 2017 as the recipient of
the Hod Humiston Award for Broadcast excellence. He was also named the Kansas
Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (KIAAA) Sportscaster of the
Year in 2022 and received an honorable mention award along with his broadcast partner Dan Naccarato in 2023 by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters for medium market play-by-play.

Grunwald has
also been honored to be chosen as one of three finalist for the National Sports
Media Association organization as Sportscaster of the Year in Kansas for 2023 and again was in the top five finalist this past December for 2024.

Grunwald will receive his award at one of the KSHSAA state basketball championship events in March.

The Blue Dragons fall to 15-9 overall, 11-7 in Jayhawk Conference play.

Hutch now drops to fifth place in the tightly contested conference standings with six games remaining.

Garden City (14-11, 9-10) got off to a hot shooting performance to start each half. Hutchinson had an answer to the Broncbuster run to start the game, but not in the second half, as Garden City created some separation and never let Hutch back in.

The Blue Dragons struggled to shoot the ball from deep, going 4 of 18, while the Broncbusters knocked down 13 of 33 from long distance.

HutchCC was plus-seven on the glass and scored 33 bench points, while Garden City did not have a single point off of the bench.

Bobby Cannon posted his third double-double of the season, going for 13 points and 13 rebounds. Isaiah Jackson scored 13 and D.J. Dudley with 12 for the Blue Dragons in double-figure scoring.

Hutch will host Cloud County on Saturday at 4 p.m. inside of the Sports Arena, while Garden City will have its final bye of the regular season.

The Blue Dragons are now 22-2 overall, 16-2 in Jayhawk Conference play. Hutch moves back into a tie for first place with Dodge City with six games remaining.

Hutchinson led 17-10 after the first quarter, 27-23 at halftime and 48-33 after three quarters.

Jackson also brought down a team-high eight rebounds in the win. She was the only Blue Dragon to score in double figures. Madi Denison scored five points, while bringing down a team-high eight boards and dishing off two assists.

The Blue Dragons knocked down 57% of their shots, going 23 of 40. The two areas where Hutch struggled the most were from behind the arc (3 of 10) and at the foul line (17 of 32).&nbsp;

Garden City (11-13, 8-11) had three starters score in double figures, led by Ana Ramos Pieres with 15 points and nine rebounds. The Broncbusters shot 38% from the floor.

The Blue Dragons (15-8, 11-6 KJCCC) travel to play the Garden City Broncbusters (13-11, 8-10 KJCCC) at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Conestoga Arena in Garden City.

Originally scheduled for Wednesday, the game was postponed because of snow.
After an unexpected nine days off, the Blue Dragons came out strong on Monday at No. 14 Coffeyville. Shooting just shy of 50 percent and holding Coffeyville 14 points under its scoring average, the Blue Dragons earned a 76-66 victory over the Red Ravens. D.J. Dudley had 26 points and Bo Aldridge had 22 points to lead the Blue Dragons. Defensively, the Blue Dragons held the Red Ravens to 38.7 percent overall shooting and to just 2 of 17 shooting from 3-point range.
Garden City comes off an equally impressive victory at Coffeyville on Saturday, winning 93-79. The Broncbusters hit 14 of 29 3-point field goals. Antonio Choi and Emmanuel Manyuon each 22 points each with Choi hitting four treys. Jace Steinmetz was 5 of 7 from distance and finished with 17 points.
Hutchinson and Garden City are part of a six conference team battle for the final Region 6 Tournament first-round bye. With seven games to play, the Blue Dragons are in fifth place in the Jayhawk Conference, just 0.5 games behind fourth-place Butler. Colby is sixth with a 9-10 record after a Tuesday win over Butler. Garden City has climbed back into contention for that final first-round bye spot with an 8-11 record.
The Blue Dragons and Broncbusters play for the 197th time in a series that began in 1929. Hutchinson has dominated the series, owning a 145-51 all-time series lead.
The Dragons have won four straight games in the series after an 83-78 Dragon win on Dec. 11 at the Sports Arena. The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team looks to rebound from its second loss of the season six days ago, hitting the road once again on Thursday.
The No. 8-ranked Blue Dragons (21-2, 15-2) travel to play the Garden City Broncbusters (11-12, 8-10) in the teams' second meeting of the season at 4:00 p.m. at Conestoga Arena in Garden City.

The Blue Dragons trailed by as many as 20 points before getting as close as five with 2 1/2 minutes to play.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/forbes_landon_o30r">Landon Forbes</a>&nbsp;had 14 points, while&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_hailey_q6t6">Hailey Jackson</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/norris_kahlen_2uos">Kahlen Norris</a>&nbsp;had 13 points each.
The loss dropped the Blue Dragons into sole possession of second place in the KJCCC, a full game behind Dodge City with seven games to play. But the No. 6 Conquistadors were upset on Saturday 55-52 at Seward County and the Dragons now trail Dodge City by 0.5 games. Dodge City is off on Wednesday.
Garden City had a rough Saturday, falling 70-32 at Coffeyville. The Broncbusters trailed 24-8 after one quarter and never recovered. Jolie Mantz had 11 points to lead Garden City.
The first meeting on December 11 was a defensive battle between Hutchinson and Garden City. The Blue Dragons won 45-44 when Jackson hit three free throws with 1.5 seconds left in regulation. Those free throws capped off a 25-point effort by Jackson to lead the Blue Dragons. Sierra Driessen had 21 points to lead Garden City.
Wednesday's game will be the 101st all-time matchup between the Blue Dragons and Broncbusters. The Dragons lead the overall series 81-19 and have won 14 consecutive games in the series.</div>

🏀 No. 8 HutchCC travels to Garden City 

Nancy J. Porter, 71, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025, at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater, KS. She was born April 23, 1953, in Denver, Colorado to Wilford L. and Donna M. (Wyer) Nusser Sr.

Nancy graduated from Robert E. Peary High School, Rockville, MD in 1971. She later attended Hutchinson Community College where she received her Associates of Arts degree. She was a bus driver for School Service and Leasing for six years.

In Nancy’s free time, she enjoyed writing her own books and reading. In 1996, she got the opportunity to drive a bus for the Olympics in Atlanta, GA, where she shuttled the Olympic contenders to and from events. On December 28, 1974, Nancy married Bruce E. Porter in Gaithersburg, MD. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Hutchinson.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Bruce; and three sisters, Dianna Miller, Elaina Nusser and Marilynn Quidachay.

She is survived by her two daughters, Amanda (Adrian) Caldwell and Leona (Jason) Duerksen; and four grandchildren, Coyote Caldwell, Phoenix Caldwell, River Duerksen, and Lyra Duerksen.

Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, KS. A graveside service will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Wheat State Manor or Good Shepherd Hospice and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502.

For the second-straight Wednesday, the Hutchinson Community College women's and men's basketball schedules have been altered.

The latest snowstorm to hit Kansas on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning has caused the postponement of the Blue Dragon women's and men's basketball games on Wednesday.

The games will be made up on Thursday (February 13) with different start times. The women's game is now at 4 p.m. and the men's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Conestoga Arena in Garden City.

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team picked up a crucial 76-66 win at No. 14 Coffeyville on Monday evening inside of Nellis Hall.

The Blue Dragons are now 15-8 overall, 11-6 in the Jayhawk Conference.

Hutchinson, which was playing its first game in nine days, showed no signs of rust, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, and never really looked back.&nbsp;

Coffeyville held just one lead in the game, 12-11 at the 12:42 mark of the first half, the rest of the game belonged to HutchCC.

The Blue Dragons led 35-30 at halftime, after leading by as much as seven in the opening half of play.

Coffeyville pulled within three twice in the first two minutes of the second half, but never could get any closer.

After the Red Ravens pulled within 39-36, HutchCC responded with a 6-0 run to go in front 45-36. Coffeyville then pulled within 47-43, but once again the Blue Dragons had an answer, scoring the next five points, all from D.J. Dudley at the foul line for a 52-43 lead with 14:02 to play.

Coffeyville made a push to pull within 59-53 at the under-8 minute media timeout at the 6:58 mark.

The Blue Dragons scored six straight, including two assists from Bobby Cannon and a thunderous one-handed slam to ignite the 6-0 run, pushing the lead to 12 with 5:42 left.

Cannon would hit another clutch basket, a three-pointer from the right corner to put Hutch in front 72-61 with 1:10 to play, putting the game out of reach.

HutchCC was led by Dudley with a team-high 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Bo Aldridge scored 22 points, to go along with five rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Bobby Cannon scored 10 points, brought down six assists and had five blocks.

The Blue Dragons got some big minutes off the bench from Amari Davis and Juvon Gamory, who made his debut. HutchCC battled foul trouble throughout the game, as Isaiah Jackson and Davis each fouled out against the much bigger Red Raven lineup.&nbsp;

Coffeyville was paced by Brian Griffith with 22 points, including 10 for 10 at the foul line.&nbsp;

Hutchinson shot 49% from the field, and knocked down 16 of 18 free throw attempts, 14 of 16 in the second half.

The Blue Dragons will travel to Garden City on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against the Broncbusters at Conestoga Arena. The Red Ravens are scheduled to travel to Concordia to face Cloud County for an 8 p.m. tipoff.

HutchCC went 0-1 last week, losing on the road at then-No. 22 Coffeyville, 64-55.&nbsp;

Hutch was off on Saturday with a bye, and is scheduled to be on the road at Garden City on Wednesday evening, weather permitting. Tipoff time is 5:30 p.m. from Conestoga Arena.

Dodge City dropped two spots to No. 7, while Coffeyville moved up five spots to No. 17.&nbsp;

Hutchinson CC Sports Information NEOSHO, Missouri – Sophomore Morgan Tomlinson pitched her second-straight complete game victory to lead the No. 22-ranked Hutchinson Community College softball team to a Game 1 victory over Crowder College on Saturday afternoon at the Crowder Softball Field.

The Roughriders then pounded out 13 hits in Game 2 to earn a split with the Blue Dragons.

Tomlinson’s complete game led to a 4-3 Blue Dragon victory in the first game. Crowder won Game 2 10-2 in six innings.

The Blue Dragons are now 3-1 and are scheduled to open at home on Friday against the Labette Cardinals. Crowder, which is receiving votes in the preseason NJCAA Rankings, is now 4-2.

GAME 1 RECAP – Hutchinson 4, Crowder 3 Tomlinson (2-0) needed 102 pitches to defeat the Roughriders. She allowed six hits and three earned runs with three strikeouts and one walk allowed. Tomlinson hit three Crowders batters.

The Blue Dragon sophomore pitched with runners on base throughout the game. She gave up single runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings. Crowder also stole seven bases to put the pressure on the Blue Dragons.

Tomlinson was able to make the big pitches and limit scoring chances. Crowder was 2 for 11 with runners in scoring position.

Offensively, the Blue Dragons had nine total hits.

Bailey Backhaus was 2 for 4 with wo runs scored. Kaibryn Kruger was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Tailor Golly was 1 for 4 with a double. Gabby Stauffer was 1 for 4 with two RBIs.

Brie Brawner tied a Blue Dragon single-game record with three walks.

The Dragons scored single runs in each of the first two innings. Kaibryn Kruger had the RBIs in both innings on a sacrifice fly in the first and a groundout in the second.

The Blue Dragons took a 4-1 lead when Stauffer’s two-out single scored Haley Kruger and Bailey Backhaus.

GAME 2 RECAP – Crowder 10, Hutchinson 2 (6 innings) The Blue Dragons weren’t able to stay away from giving up the big inning in the second game as Crowder had three separate three-run innings to pull away.

After the Blue Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Jasmine Myers’ two-run home run capped a three-run first to lead 3-1. The Dragons closed within 3-2 when Golly doubled home Bailey Backhaus in the top of third. The Roughriders got that run back in the bottom of the inning and then scored three runs in each of the fourth and sixth innings.

The Dragons had a season-low six hits. Bailey Backhaus went 2 for 4 with a run and two stolen bases. Golly was 2 for 3 with a double. Brooke Backhaus and Haley Kruger also had base hits.

🥎 Blue Dragons split doubleheader in Missouri

Winnifred Iverson Rom Thompson, 98, passed on February 6, 2025, at Hester Care Center- Wesley Towers. &nbsp;She was born July 30, 1926, to William and Cora (Johnson) Iverson in Pinewood, MN.

Winnie graduated from Bemidji (MN) High School and earned her Bachelor of Teaching from Bemidji State Teachers College. &nbsp;She taught junior high math and science.On March 1, 1947, she married Wayne F rank Rom. They had three daughters- Gloria, Valerie and Julie. &nbsp;She later married Darrel Wayne Thompson. &nbsp;He passed December 4, 2019.Winnie loved to travel and to read biographies. &nbsp;After moving to Arizona, she loved hiking the desert with friends and playing Scrabble and cards. &nbsp;Her baking skills were admired. &nbsp;Her hot buns were famous.

Winnie is survived by: her: daughters, Gloria (Bobhusband) Rom of Los Angeles, Val (Doug) Rom-Hawkins and Julie (Ron) Rom Rom-Kocienski of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Austin Justin and Marta Johnson; step-sons, Roger, Bruce and Siyd; and step-grandchildren, Alanna, Tim, and Dale.

She was preceded in death by: &nbsp;her: parents and siblings, Alice, Fran, Artie, Vernon, Willard, Clayton, and Helen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3pm on Monday February 10, 2025, at Wesley Towers Evans Chapel- 3709 Asbury Pl, Hutchinson, KS &nbsp;67502. &nbsp;Friends may sign the book from 9a-5pm Saturday and Sunday and 9a-1pm Monday.

 </figure>Winnifred Iverson Rom Thompson, 98, passed on February 6, 2025, at Hester Care Center- Wesley Towers. &nbsp;She was born July 30, 1926, to William and Cora (Johnson) Iverson in Pinewood, MN.Winnie graduated from Bemidji (MN) High School and earned her Bachelor of Teaching from Bemidji State Teachers College. &nbsp;She taught junior high math and science.On March 1, 1947, she married Wayne F rank Rom. Nine different Blue Dragon pitchers combined for 26 strikeouts as the No. 23-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team opened the 2025 season with a doubleheader sweep of the Hesston College Larks on Friday at Hobart-Detter Field.

Four pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout and the Blue Dragons exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning as Hutchinson defeated Hesston 9-0 in Game 1. Then trailing by two runs after three innings in Game 2, the Blue Dragons scored multiple runs in 4 of their final 5 at-bats as Hutchinson pulled away for a 14-4 run-rule win in the night came.

Now 2-0, the Blue Dragons will be on the road for four games next week starting with a pair of neutral-site games on Wednesday against Eastern Oklahoma State (2 p.m.) and NEO (7 p.m.) in Edmond, Oklahoma.

GAME 1 RECAP – Hutchinson 9, Hesston 0 Four Blue Dragon pitchers combined to strike out 10 Hesston batters and allowed only three hits, the fewest hits allowed by Hutchinson since 2014 when the Dragons allowed just two hits against Rose State in an 8-0 season-opening victory.

Starting pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/roehler_trenton_pudh">Trenton Roehler</a>&nbsp;struck out five batters in two innings. Winning pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/perry_gabe_wq1l">Gabe Perry</a>&nbsp;had one strikeout in two innings.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/combs_sean_c4r2">Sean Combs</a>&nbsp;fanned three in two innings and Collin Flores had one strikeout in his one inning of work.

The Blue Dragon pitchers stranded seven runners on base and held the Larks to a combined 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position.

Hutchinson out-hit Hesston 8-3 in the opener. Shortstop&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/stokes_taber_u8n0">Taber Stokes</a>&nbsp;and catcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mazza_antony_9347">Anthony Mazza</a>&nbsp;both went 2 for 3.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/maher_quinn_nqj4">Quinn Maher</a>&nbsp;had two RBIs. Mazza and Stokes scored two runs each.

The Blue Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Maher singled in&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/hamrick_cael_iiy0">Cael Hamrick</a>&nbsp;with one out.

The Dragons broke the game open with an eight-run sixth inning where Hutchinson sent 12 batters to the plate. Eli Duncan had an RBI double to score Mazza. C.J Reid added an RBI single to score&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mustow_adam_sf8t">A.J. Mustow</a>&nbsp;to make it 3-0 Dragons. The Dragons added to the inning by taking advantage of three walks and two Lark errors, closing the eight-run uprising with a Stokes' RBI single that gave the Dragons a 9-0 lead.

GAME 2 RECAP – Hutchinson 14, Hesston 4 (8 innings) The five Hutchinson pitcher to work in the second game combined for 16 strikeouts, which tied for the fifth-most in Blue Dragon single-game history. The last time the Blue Dragons had last 16 strikeouts in a game was 16 against Coffeyville on March 4, 2022.

Starting pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/wolcott_jake_0h6q">Jake Wolcott</a>&nbsp;and relief pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/usselman_reece_c48r">Reece Usselman</a>&nbsp;each struck out five batters in two innings of work. Relief pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mccombs_noah_7a9n">Noah McCombs</a>&nbsp;had three strikeouts in two innings.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/ainsworth_seth_huwf">Seth Ainsworth</a>&nbsp;fanned two and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/rosser_lachlan_s3z7">Lachlan Rosser</a>&nbsp;had one punchout. Ainsworth and Rosser worked one inning each.

The Blue Dragons were held to one hit over the first three innings, but the Dragons unleashed 13 hits and 14 runs over the next five innings to pull away.

After a Mustow RBI double got the Blue Dragons on the boards in the bottom of the fourth, the Dragons tied the game on a Reid RBI triple to center and took a 3-2 lead on a&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/herrmann_jarrett_kvsa">Jarrett Herrmann</a>&nbsp;RBI single.

Maher, Mazza and Duncan had RBI hits in a three-run fifth to take 6-2 lead.

After Hesston cut the lead to 6-4 on a Chris Cammllarie two-run home run, the Blue Dragons answered with a six-run sixth inning. Reid and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/griffin_leo_z3t1">Leo Griffin</a>&nbsp;had RBI singles, the Dragons converted two double steals and had four stolen bases in the inning the they took advantage of two Lark errors to lead 12-4 after six innings.

The Dragons reached run-rule status in the eighth. After&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/allen_griffin_bmj4">Nick Glantz</a>&nbsp;and Duncan were walked, the Dragons loaded the bases with a walk to Hamrick. The Dragons scored their 13th run on a bases-loaded walk to&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/hochstein_finn_ygit">Finn Hochstein</a>&nbsp;and Griffin singled up the middle to play Duncan with the 14th and final run.

Griffin went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Reid went 3 for 4 with a double, triple two RBIs and a run scored.
