
COFFEYVILLE, Kan. โ The Hutchinson Community College womenโs basketball teams attempt at erasing a 20-point deficit came up just short in a 64-55 loss at Coffeyville on Wednesday in Nellis Hall.
The Blue Dragons are now 21-2 overall, 15-2 in the Jayhawk Conference.
Coffeyville (18-3, 13-3) got off to a red-hot start and built a 22-9 lead after the first quarter.
The Red Ravens extended the lead to 20 late in the first half, and led 38-23 in the first half.
Hutchinson struggled with foul trouble in the first half, as four players had two fouls each, including leading scorer Hailey Jackson. Jackson played just over four total minutes in the opening half.
The Blue Dragons created some momentum in the second half, but still went to the fourth quarter down 15, 53-38.
Hutchinson kept cutting into the Coffeyville lead, eventually battling back to within five with 2:35 left to play following a Kahlen Norris 3-pointer.
The Blue Dragons would never get any closer, as Coffeyville ended the game on a 4-0 run.
The loss snapped a four game win streak for the Blue Dragons, while the Red Ravens won their league-best eighth game in a row.
HutchCC was led by Landon Forbes with 14, while Jackson had 13 and Norris 10. The Blue Dragons shot just 32% from the floor, and failed to hit 10 3-pointers for the first time in five games, ending the game with six made triples.
Coffeyville was led by Norika Welch with a game-high 19 points.
The Blue Dragons are off on Saturday. Hutchinson will look to regroup on Wednesday at Garden City. Tipoff from Conestoga Arena is at 5:30 p.m.
The Red Ravens will host Garden City on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Nellis Hall.
