Ginny Stephenson, 93, passed away on November 3, 2021, at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kansas, after a brief illness.&nbsp; She was born April 5, 1928, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Willis Hoagland and Hilda (Graber) Hoagland.

Ginny was a graduate of Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community College.&nbsp; She married B.L. Stephenson on July 19, 1948, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; In their early years, they owned and operated Stephenson Retail Liquor, which she managed after his death in July 1984.&nbsp; In 1987, she began her food service career at Hutchinson Hospital Corporation, now Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; In 2011, at the age of 83, she retired after 25 years of service.&nbsp;

Ginny was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; brother, Bill Hoagland; grandson, Greg Stephenson; and great-grandson, Wyatt Harper.&nbsp;

She leaves behind: &nbsp;her sons, Brad (Carol Walle) Stephenson of Buhler, and Scott Stephenson of the home; granddaughter, Cari (Wylie) Baker of Hutchinson; great-grandsons, Gauge (Kensley) Harper of Hutchinson, and Colton Harper of Lincoln, Nebraska; great-granddaughter, Maci Harper of Lincoln, Nebraska; and extended family, neighbors, and long-time coworkers.

Friends may call Friday, November 12, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, followed by the burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.

As we celebrate the 150th birthday of Hutchinson and Reno County, we want to go through the years, decade by decade, to see how things have changed and — remarkably — how they have stayed the same. This would not be possible without the efforts of Steve Harmon, the Reno County Museum, and the Hutchinson Public Library, who have made a great effort to supply us with the information and photos that you’ll see in this 15-part series. As we move closer to the end of your journey through The Decades, many exciting things are happening in Hutchinson. The city became home to one of the premier sporting complexes, which many would soon copy. It also saw the beginning of a major expansion of a humble museum that would make it one of the premier collections of space artifacts in the country. It was the end of the line for one of Hutchinson's first railroads. And it was the end of an era for the family-owned Dillons stores. It also included visits from many popular celebrities, including the “greatest of all time.”

1980: One of the longer-running small-town newspapers ceased publication as the Nickerson Argosy closes after 103 years.

Collins Bus fire destroys facility at old naval base.

The Buhler School district expands its footprint in the Hutchinson area as Prairie Hills Middle School opens.

Fun Valley opens with ball diamonds, water slide park and fishing lake along with offices.

The Hutchinson Mental Health Center opens its doors for service.

One of the more bizarre crimes in Reno County occurred when a 15-year-old robbed the bank in Arlington.

The Cosmosphere and Discovery Center opens and begins a long run of major improvements that make the museum what it is today.

Finally ridding the downtown of parking meters, the city of Hutchinson decides to sell off the 2,100 meters. The meters are gone in less than one day.

One of the first railroads that came through Reno County ended after a long and difficult history as Rock Island ceased operations in 1980. The portion of the railroad that traveled through Reno County was taken over by the Southern Pacific, which eventually merged with the Union Pacific.

One of the staples of the downtown shopping area closed as Wards ended business operations.

The Frisco Railroad is absorbed by the Burlington Northern. Shortly after, the BN abandoned the line running from Wichita to Great Bend, ending rail service to Buhler and Medora.

1981:&nbsp;One of the enduring programs that brings special speakers to Hutchinson, the Dillon Lecture Series began at Hutchinson Community College.

Air ambulance service comes to Hutchinson Hospital.

Not as big as the one most recently completed, the Hutchinson Sports Arena gets a $1.8 million facelift.

A rail car explodes, sending toxic fumes through the south part of the city. Schools are closed and parts of the city are evacuated. The trestle over the Arkansas River near Carey Park burns.

In an effort to keep drunk drivers off the road, the Reno County Sheriff's Department buys a breathalyzer.&nbsp;

One of the many accomplishments of the Hutch High band and Salt Shakers happened in 1981 when they marched at the inaugural parade for President Ronald Regan.

&nbsp;1982: Better technology comes to Hutchinson Hospital as a new CAT scan machine is installed.

Unemployment rate is higher that it was during the 2020 pandemic as the jobless rate hits 8.5%.

A rash of arson fires hits Hutchinson with 30 homes burned.

The population of Reno County hits 65,000. Today's population, according to the 2020 census, is 61,000.

The first woman patrol deputy is hired by the Reno County Sheriff’s Department

One of the great Christmas traditions started in Hutchinson in 1982 as the first Hyde Park Luminaries was held. Today about 40,000 luminaries are lit on the last Saturday before Christmas.

1983: Unemployment is still a problem as it hits a record 10.6%.

The end of an era in grocery shopping in Hutchinson and Kansas as Dillons is purchased by Kroger.&nbsp;

Newly-remodeled Liberty and Sherman junior high schools open. Today they are HMS 7 and 8.

The city buys most of the Fun Valley Sports Complex. The facility is run by both the city and Hutch Rec.&nbsp;

A record 11.5 million bushels of wheat is harvested in Reno County.

The Bob Johnson Youth Center is opened and is part of the county.

The county commission rids itself of the Broadacres County Home as it is sold off to a private company.

&nbsp;1984:&nbsp;Holiday Inn Holidome opens as new kind of motel and convention center.

One of the more horrific and high-profile crimes in Reno County occurred in 1984 when Arnold Ruebke Jr. was arrested and convicted in the shotgun slayings of 2-year-old twins Andrew and James Vogelsang and their babysitter Tammy Mooney in Arlington. Ruebke died in prison in March of 2021.

It was a part of Hutchison for 26 years, but in 1984, the Kansas Wheat Commission moved its headquarters from Hutchinson to Manhattan.

A major ice storm hits the area, more than 12,00 homes are without power.

The Nickerson mayor is ousted after a recall vote.

Salt Shakers dance in London and win international award for their performance.

The city takes over the Hutchinson Zoo after a long and controversial process between the city and the Hutchinson Zoological Society.

The Court Appointed Services Advocate (CASA) begins service in Reno County

1985:&nbsp;Members of the Peel family are taken hostage after TWA flight 847 is hijacked and flown to Algiers and Beirut. Eventually all of the passengers are released during a two-week period.

The Hutchinson Mall opens to much fanfare. The battle begins to keep shoppers downtown. Eventually the mall’s appeal begins to decline and now only a few spaces remain open. RockStep capital has been able to revive some of the open spaces in the past three years.

A major staple of the city for so many years, Wiley's closes for good.

A major hail storm rolls through the area causing more than $35 million in damage. With the large number of claims, insurance adjusters set up a mobile facility at the fairgrounds.

Muhammad Ali visits Hutchinson and stops to talk to students at Sherman Middle School.

One way to try to curb crime was established in 1985 as Reno County Crime Stoppers started.

More help for both fighting crime and calling for help began in 1985 with Reno County 911 starting operations.

One of the crown jewels of Hutchinson, the Hutchinson Fox Theatre, closes. Eventually the theatre reopens after a major renovation and is entertaining folks again today.

1986: After moving to Haven, the Reno County Museum moved back to Hutchinson.

Following the takeover the year before, the city of Hutchinson opened the Hutchinson Zoo.

The Nickerson USD 309 school district finds a new home office as it purchases the offices complex at Fun Valley.

A nurse is fined for refusing to treat an AIDS patient.

The Hutchinson Public Library gets a new piece of technology as it acquires a computer-driven card catalog system as part of an overall renovation of the library.

1987:&nbsp;The Quest Center opens and becomes an incubator for small businesses in Hutchinson.

Bob Hope performs at the Kansas State Fair.

A Nickerson man is shot by a sniper on the steps of the Reno County Courthouse after he threatens to blow up the courthouse. Explosives are found on his body.

In the early years of Hutchinson, there were repeated efforts to open saloons and bars that were defeated. In 1987, liquor by the drink was established after a vote of the public the year before.

County officials dedicate a new bridge on West 4th Avenue over Cow Creek.

The post office in the small town of Medora closed.

The Kansas Lottery begins operations with 70 local retailers selling lottery tickets.

The Kansas State Fair celebrates its 75th year.

1988: Pan Am flight 103 is blown up by terrorists over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 259 on board including Hutchinson resident David Ludlow, who was serving overseas and on his way home for his sister's funeral.

One of the premier cancer care centers in Kansas opened in 1987 with the Cancer Treatment Center opening in Hutchinson.

Lois Schlickau of Haven is the first woman named President of the Kansas State Board of Agriculture.

There have always been mountain lion sightings in the area, most of which were proven false, but in 1987, a mountain lion was supposedly spotted playing through on the fifth hole at the Haven golf course.

County landfill employees party on confiscated liquor that is disposed of by the Hutchinson Police Department.

HutchCC wins the 1988 NJCAA National Basketball Tournament.

Standing since 1923, the Wolcott Building is razed in downtown Hutchinson.

A major drug operation that was bringing drugs into the reformatory and other places in Reno County from California was busted.

1989:&nbsp;Still supporting those in need today, Interfaith Housing began operations in Hutchinson.

An ammonia leak forces the evacuation of residents in Plevna.

During the savings and loan failure nationwide, two area S&amp;L’s are taken over by the government.&nbsp;

The three Graham brothers are all awarded their Eagle Scout badges at the same time.

Fire rips through the Radio Shack store at 108 N. Main, doing more than $135,000 in damage.&nbsp;

The Decades: 1980s

Bob L. Geiman, 88, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 5:31 a.m., Friday, November 5th, 2021 peacefully, at McPherson Health And Rehab. Bob was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on April 30, 1933, a son of the late Evaline (Peterson) and Russel Lindell Geiman. Bob attended Windom grade school, and graduated from Windom High School, Windom, Kansas in 1951. He then attended Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas, Wichita University, Wichita, Kansas and graduated from McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas. He was a member of First United Methodist Church McPherson, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob L. Geiman was united in marriage to Carolyn D. Peden on June 3, 1956 at the First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of Kathy, Kent, and Kim.. Through the years Bob worked as a high school teacher and assistant football coach and basketball coach at Marquette and Lucas, Kansas, was owner and operator along with his wife Carolyn of the White Swan, worked for Sierra Homes in the office, was a claims adjuster for Farmers Alliance Insurance Company and State Farm Insurance, and a Loan Officer for the State Bank of Canton from which he retired. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 24. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising horses, vacationing in Colorado, watching all sports especially football and basketball and spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 65 years, Carolyn Geiman, of McPherson, Kansas; his children, Kathy Smith and husband Harold, of McPherson, Kansas, Kent Geiman and wife Delores, of Houston, Texas, and Kim Morris, and husband Ted, of McPherson, Kansas; his seven grandchildren, Brad Smith and wife Jenny, Kristen Naves and husband Joseph, Nicholas Geiman and wife Alicia, Nathan Geiman and wife Sarah, Megan Bogener and husband James, Stephanie Dunn, and Danielle Reilley and husband Jeff; his nine great-grandchildren, Donovan, Breck, Blain, Brody, Ava, Aiden, Finley, Ellis, and Kensley. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lindell and Evaline Geiman, his twin brothers, Dean and Gene Geiman. ODESSA, Texas – One year ago, the Hutchinson Community College men’s’ golf team put together a record-setting performance that vaulted the Blue Dragons to the top spot of the NJCAA and ultimately to a national title last spring.

While this year’s NJCAA National Preview performance wasn’t a polar opposite, the No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons struggled at times in Friday’s final round and finished fourth in the NJCAA National Preview at the Odessa Country Club, site of the 2022 NJCAA Men’s Division I Championship next May.

The Blue Dragons cared a 2-over par 290 on Friday and finished with a 54-hole even-par score of 864 for Hutchinson’s 14th-consective Top 5 team finish.

No. 2-ranked Midland won the team title at 849. Nos. 3 and 7 Odessa was second at 864 and unranked Indian Hills was third at 961. Midland and Odessa posted final-round team scores of 285 on Friday. Indian Hills had the low team round on Friday of 283.

Freshman Dominic Clemons was Hutchinson’s low golfer on Friday with a 1-under 71. Sophomore All-American Harry Crockett shot an even-par 72. The Dragons also counted a 73 by sophomore All-American Ben Partridge and sophomore Addison Alonzo’s 74.

The Blue Dragons had two golfers place in the individual Top 10 for the tournament.

Partridge tied for fifth with a 54-hole total of 213. Crockett was 10th at 215.

Freshman Blake Saffel shot a 77 on Friday and finished tied for 21st at 221. Clemons and Alonzo tied for 25th at 222.

Individual player Cameron Rios-Ceballos shot 77 on Friday to finished tied for 46th at 229.

The Blue Dragons complete the fall portion of the schedule. The defending NJCAA National Champions open the spring schedule in mid-March.

Fern Eva Willison Griffith, 83, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away November 4, 2021 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born on July 1, 1938, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Dwight Earl and Dorothy Faye (Barnes) Willison. Fern graduated from Hutchinson High School with the class of 1956, and received a bachelor’s degree in Pre-med from Bethany Nazarene College, Bethany, Oklahoma and a bachelor’s degree as a Medical Tech from Wichita State University, Wichita. She has resided in Sterling since 2014, formerly of Wichita. On April 18, 1970, Fern was united in marriage with Warren Lee Griffith in Hutchinson. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, William Chick; brothers, Donald Chick, and twin brothers, Earl Eugene Willison and Everett Dean Willison; sisters, Marilyn Latham and infant Betty Lee Willison. Fern is survived by her two daughters, Daphne Norez and husband Raul of Raymond, KS, and Heather A. Latiolais and husband Mike of San Ramon, CA; sister, Carolyn Zolman and husband Virgil of Houston, TX; and seven grandchildren. A private family graveside will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons with Rev. Robert Friesen officiating.&nbsp;

Joyce was a member of the Eastern Star, DAV Auxiliary and received her LPN license from Barton Community College while working at Little River Nursing Home. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; sister; and a granddaughter. She leaves behind her sons, Clark (Sue) Elliott of Lyons, KS, Ken (Carol) Elliott of Clovis, CA; two daughters, Susan (Bob) Flynn of Clovis, CA, and Rebecca (Greg) Armstrong of Great Bend; four sisters, Betty Deutscher of Topeka, Shirley Cheatum of Hutchinson, Alice (Earl) Sneath of Great Bend, and Marilyn (James) Rodgers of Great Bend; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three step-great-great grandsons; and another step-great-great grandbaby due in April; and many loving nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Cremation has taken place and graveside services for immediate family will be held at a later date.

The Blue Dragons shot rounds of 288 and 286 to post a 2-under par team score of 574 after the first two rounds played on Thursday at the Odessa Country Club, site of the 2022 NJCAA Division I Men’s National Tournament.

The No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons – Hutchinson is ranked at the top of both the NJCAA and Bushnell/GolfWeek coaches’ rankings – trails No. 2-ranked Midland College by 10 strokes. Midland leads the field at 12-under 564. Odessa, Nos. 7/4 in the national rankings, is second at 7-under 569. The Blue Dragons are third at 2-under 576. Unranked Indian Hills is fourth at 578 and No. 3 McLennan College is fifth at 580.

Partridge posted rounds of 69 and 71 on Thursday and is just one stroke off the individual lead. Tied with Odessa’s Sangha Park, Partridge is at 4-under 140. Midland’s Adam Coull leads at 5-under 139.

Partridge closed strong on Thursday. He was 2-over in his second round through nine holes, but closed with four birdies and just one bogey over the final nine holes to finish at 1-under 71.

The Blue Dragons were five strokes off the Midland lead after 18 holes on Thursday. Hutch counted Partridge’s 69 and 73s from Harry Crockett, Blake Saffel and Addison Alonzo.

The Dragons improved two strokes in the afternoon round, but lost five strokes to the Chaps. Crockett shot the low round for Hutchinson in the second round of 2-under 70. Partridge and Saffel carded 71s and Dominic Clemons counted with a 74.

 The final round will be a Friday morning shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

Crockett is in a six-way tie for seventh individually at 1-under 143.

Saffel is tied with four others for 13th at even-par 144. He eagled the 17th hole in the second round.

Alonzo is tied for 26th at 4-over 148 after rounds of 73 and 75.

Clemons is tied for 35th at 151 with Thursday rounds of 77 and 74.

Individual player Cameron Rios-Ceballos is tied for 41st at 152. He posted rounds of 77 and 75 on Thursday.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Regional Healthcare Systems announced Thursday that Weston Tallman has been hired as Assistant Controller for the Finance Department.

Tallman grew up in Hutchinson and is a 2004 graduate of Trinity Catholic High School. He attended Hutchinson Community College before graduating from Friends University in Wichita. Tallman’s accomplishments include bachelor's and master’s degrees in Business Administration.

Tallman joins HRHS following 13 years with Kroger Accounting Services in Hutchinson. During his last 18 months with Kroger, Tallman served as the Kroger Unemployment Claims Manager.

Duane Miller, Chief Financial Officer for HRHS, said the selection process to fill the vacancy of Assistant Controller was shortened when an applicant already residing in Hutchinson, and imminently qualified, applied. “We are gratified that Weston has chosen Hutchinson Regional as the next stop in his career advancement,” Miller said. “In his most recent position with Kroger, Weston developed a department which converted work from all Kroger locations. This provided additional jobs in the Hutchinson community.”

In his position as Assistant Controller with HRHS, Tallman will be responsible for devising and implementing financial policies and plans, coordinating preparation of the annual budget, and coordination of monthly and annual financial statements.

Tallman and his wife Lacey are the parents of two children, a son Jace and a daughter Ricki.

Hutch Post was provided a list Thursday morning of the employers who had provided employee estimates to the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce that would put them over 100 total employees. 

These employers, therefore, would be under the new OSHA vaccine or testing mandate language released by the Biden Administration Thursday, with intent for the temporary rule to be published in the Federal Register on Friday.

LIBERAL – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team’s season came to an end on Tuesday as the No. 14 Seward County Saints controlled their Region VI Tournament opening-round match from the outset Tuesday night at the Green House.

The Blue Dragons fell in straight sets to the Saints, 25-13, 25-21, 25-18. Hutchinson closes the 2021 season with a 19-16 record. The Saints move onto the Region VI semifinals on Friday in El Dorado.

The Saints dominated the opening set, but the Blue Dragons looked to have an answer in the second set, leading 9-6. But Seward County erased that deficit and controlled the match the rest of the way.

Freshman outside hitter Sophie Connor had nine kills, seven digs and a service ace to lead the Blue Dragons against Seward County.

Rowena B. Albright, 96, slipped peacefully from this earthly life to the one especially prepared for her by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Oct. 30, 2021. She was born Feb. 17, 1925, at Elk City, Oklahoma to Ira and Cecil Burwell who preceded her in death. She married Donald E. Albright on Oct. 1, 1943 at Camp Roberts, Monterey, California. He died on Aug. 30, 2016.

She was also a 1968 graduate of Sterling College. She taught in the Kingman Middle School for twenty years.

She served six terms as Reno County Representative to the Silver Haired Legislature and was president of the council for one year. She held local and district offices in the Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church and UMW and was a Hutchinson District Lay Speaker. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, KNEA and Better Homes EHU. She served as a volunteer for Hospice, Prairie Sunset Home and was a Kansas Volunteer Ombudsman for three years.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 at the Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Livingston Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Lone Star Cemetery.

Grace Marie Dahlke (Frankenstein), 94, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Friday, October 29, 2021 in Bixby, Oklahoma, in the presence of several family members. Following her passing, her family celebrated her with two hours of singing gospel songs and hymns, praying with her, talking to her, loving her, and wishing her a beautiful reunion in Heaven with her husband, son, family and friends. We are comforted by her love of the Lord and lifelong service to Him.&nbsp; We can only imagine the joy she is experiencing now!

Grace lived in Hutchinson, Kansas, beginning in 1982, and only recently moved to Tulsa to live with her daughter, Lisa.

Grace was born on March 2, 1927 to Rev. Carl and Clara Frankenstein in the parsonage of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, New York, where her father was the minister. She graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1944, and attended one year of college at Rockport State College.

In 1948, she married Rev. Victor W. Dahlke at St. Matthews with her father officiating. Victor and Grace were married 50 years. Their first church together was Holy Ghost Lutheran in Bergholtz, New York, where they spent 9 ½ years. Five of their children, David, Deborah, Jonathan, Lisa (Dorcas), and James were born there.

The Dahlke family moved to Watertown, Wisconsin, in 1958, where Rev. Dahlke was called to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Their daughter, Joanna, was born there. While there, they placed their older son, David, who was born with severe developmental disabilities, at Bethesa Lutheran Home for the Disabled.&nbsp; After the family moved from Watertown, Grace traveled to Watertown to visit David three to four times a year.

The Dahlke family moved to Ellinwood, Kansas, in 1962, where Rev. Dahlke was called to St. John’s Lutheran Church. &nbsp;Their seventh and last child, Dinah (Raine) was born there. They lived in Ellinwood until Rev. Dahlke’s retirement in 1982.&nbsp; All of their children graduated from Ellinwood High School.

In 1982, Victor and Grace moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, where Rev. Dahlke continued to serve as Pastor Emeritus at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church (ORL).&nbsp; Victor’s ministries were Grace’s ministries too.&nbsp; It was a lifelong partnership of service and ministry.

Grace lead a life of service to the Lord and the community.&nbsp; She taught Sunday School and music to the children until she was 90 years old.&nbsp; She lead the Children’s Choir in both Ellinwood and Hutchinson.&nbsp; She volunteered at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Youth Club as a Table Parent until she was 90. She loved the children at her church, and was especially thrilled when they would come up to her as adults and tell her of their memories of her. Grace was named Volunteer Teacher of the Year for the Kansas District (Missouri Synod Lutheran Church) in 1997.

Victor and Grace started a ministry at ORL called College and Career, for young adults, that lasted 15 years. Grace chaired the Older Adults Committee at ORL from 1998-2018. Each year this committee planned a service to commemorate the older members called “Bless the Years Sunday”. Grace was especially proud of her Adult Committee and the ministry they provided.

Grace also organized ORL members to form a choir that sang once a month for many years at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.&nbsp; She took great care in choosing the songs and making sure the choir had copies of all the songs. Grace lead Bible Study at Good Samaritan once a week.&nbsp; In 2004, she was named Volunteer of the Year. Grace continued to visit ORL shut ins for 20 years after Victor passed.&nbsp; She was always amazed at how happy they were to see her.

Grace was a Charter Member of the “Saints Alive After 55” Kansas District Committee, traveling to Topeka for 30 years for meetings.

In the community, Grace was a CASA Volunteer for many years, and she was awarded CASA Volunteer of the Year in 1995. She was also a Reading Tutor at Yoder Elementary.

In Ellinwood, her hobbies included china painting, wood carving, and she was in a bowling league! Her children remember her spending all day Saturday baking for Sunday. She always had homemade coffee cake, kuchen, pastries, and even donuts. She was the best cook!

In later years, her hobbies included scrabble, Sudoku, gardening and yard work. She spent hours on her patio enjoying the outdoors.&nbsp; She mowed her own yard until she was 90, despite the protests of her children. Grace was a great supporter of the arts and faithfully attended the Dillon Lecture Series and Hutchinson’s Community Theater programs.

Grace is survived by six children: Deborah Matan, Columbus, Ohio; Jonathan (Cheryl) Dahlke, Holyrood, Kansas; Lisa Winters, Bixby, Oklahoma; James Dahlke, Joplin, Missouri; Joanna Penn (Ty Petty), Topeka, Kansas; and Raine Dyani, Issaquah, Washington; ten grandchildren, Alyson (Mike) Houlden, Kristin (Kenny) Moore, Marcie (Elliott) Bilbry, Amanda (Levi) Ellis, Natalie (Scott) Penn-Mayton, Jake (Hannah) Dahlke, Olivia Penn, Sydney Dahlke, Jordan (Caitlin) Dahlke, Tanner Dahlke; and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Dahlke; father, Carl Frankenstein; mother, Clara Brusehaber Frankenstein; sisters, Ruth, Anita, Doris; brother, Carl; and her son, David.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2021, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 E. 12th, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2021, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2021, at the church.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.

Grace Marie Dahlke (Frankenstein), 94, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Friday, October 29, 2021 in Bixby, Oklahoma, in the presence of several family members. Following her passing, her family celebrated her with two hours of singing gospel songs and hymns, praying with her, talking to her, loving her, and wishing her a beautiful reunion in Heaven with her husband, son, family and friends. We are comforted by her love of the Lord and lifelong service to Him.&nbsp; We can only imagine the joy she is experiencing now!Grace lived in Hutchinson, Kansas, beginning in 1982, and only recently moved to Tulsa to live with her daughter, Lisa.Grace was born on March 2, 1927 to Rev. Carl and Clara Frankenstein in the parsonage of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, New York, where her father was the minister. She graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1944, and attended one year of college at Rockport State College.In 1948, she married Rev. Victor W. Dahlke at St. Matthews with her father officiating. Victor and Grace were married 50 years. Their first church together was Holy Ghost Lutheran in Bergholtz, New York, where they spent 9 ½ years. Five of their children, David, Deborah, Jonathan, Lisa (Dorcas), and James were born there.The Dahlke family moved to Watertown, Wisconsin, in 1958, where Rev. Dahlke was called to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Their daughter, Joanna, was born there. While there, they placed their older son, David, who was born with severe developmental disabilities, at Bethesa Lutheran Home for the Disabled.&nbsp; After the family moved from Watertown, Grace traveled to Watertown to visit David three to four times a year.The Dahlke family moved to Ellinwood, Kansas, in 1962, where Rev. Dahlke was called to St. John’s Lutheran Church. &nbsp;Their seventh and last child, Dinah (Raine) was born there. They lived in Ellinwood until Rev. Dahlke’s retirement in 1982.&nbsp; All of their children graduated from Ellinwood High School.In 1982, Victor and Grace moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, where Rev. HUTCHINSON, Kansas — Those passionate about learning on the job and in the classroom can get first-hand experience thanks to IdeaTek’s new apprenticeship program through Hutchinson Community College.

IdeaTek’s three-year program allows for students to combine class time at HutchCC with on-the-job training, preparing them for a career with the company. Apprentices are enrolled as part-time students at HutchCC where they will complete a pre-selected set of courses. The participants will receive free college tuition, plus a salary from IdeaTek.

IdeaTek is currently taking applications through Jan. 15 for both a project manager apprentice and an installation technician apprentice.&nbsp;

The project manager position will allow the student to plan, coordinate, direct and oversee implementation of construction and operational activities while maintaining budgetary objectives.

The installation technician will gain skills to deliver fiber to homes, troubleshoot customer connections and manage project timelines and design.

Founded by four high school friends in 1999, IdeaTek is now one of Reno County’s larger employers. IdeaTek's mission is to connect underserved communities with affordable, high-speed internet service.&nbsp;

The new apprenticeship program is aimed at developing the next generation of experienced professionals for skilled trades, said Megan Shearer, IdeaTek’s director of talent.

“We are excited to partner with HutchCC to create opportunities for students in our local communities,” she said. “Real-life work experiences are irreplaceable. We look forward to working with some talented students.”
