WASHINGTON (AP)—President Donald Trump says he plans to issue “a complete PARDON of Pete Rose," baseball’s late career hits leader who was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/general-news-8fb1c12e1498a0c3ffacef4beaa4e642">banned from MLB and the Hall of Fame</a>&nbsp;for sports betting.

Trump posted on Truth Social on Friday night to say Rose, who&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/pete-rose-obituary-reds-e0f3dfa057fc46629447e04b6540e4c8">died in September</a>&nbsp;at 83, “shouldn’t have been gambling on baseball, but only bet on HIS TEAM WINNING.”

Trump did not specifically mention Rose’s tax evasion case in which Rose pleaded guilty in 1990 and served a five-month prison sentence.

The president said he would sign a pardon for Rose “over the next few weeks.”

MLB handed Rose a lifetime ban in 1989 after an investigation determined he had bet on baseball games, including some involving his own Cincinnati Reds.

Winners of two-straight games, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team is still in control of its future seeding for the Region 6 Tournament entering play on Saturday.
The Blue Dragons (18-10, 14-8 KJCCC) travel to play the Seward County Saints (3-24, 2-20 KJCCC) at 4 p.m. at Seward County's Green House in Liberal.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 3:45 p.m. with Sean Boston (play-by-play) and Daren Dunn (analyst) calling the action. The game will be streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 3:45 p.m.
The Blue Dragons are looking for a Top 4 finish in the Jayhawk Conference, which carries an opening-round bye for the tournament, which begins next Saturday, March 8.
The Blue Dragons are tied for fourth with the Butler Grizzlies with two games to play. Hutchinson owns the head-to-head tie-breaker with the Grizzlies based on a season sweep.
Hutchinson closes with Seward County on Saturday and a home game on Wednesday against Dodge City. Butler closes with a road game at Cloud County Saturday and a home game on Wednesday against Cowley.
Over their two-game winning streak, the Blue Dragons have been solid defensively. In victories over Butler and Pratt, the Dragons are allowing an average of 61.0 points per game while opponents are shooting 38.3 percent.
For the season, the Dragons are allowing 75.1 points and 42.0 percent shooting.
Bo Aldridge had career highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead Hutchinson in its 65-59 victory over Pratt on Wednesday night.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/arnold_khalil_9vae">Khalil Arnold</a>&nbsp;added 12 points. The Dragons held Pratt to 35.1 percent shooting and just 2 of 23 from 3-point range.
Seward County has already been eliminated from postseason contention. The Saints have lost nine-straight games. The Saints lost 74-58 to Coffeyville on Wednesday.
The Blue Dragons defeated Seward County 74-50 on January 15 at the Sports Arena. D.J. Dudley had 25 points, while Arnold and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/bios/cannon_bobby_1l4l">Bobby Cannon</a>&nbsp;had 11 points each. Muhammad Jobe finished with 20 to lead the Saints.

With two games remaining in the 2024-25 regular season, the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team still has a shot to repeat its Jayhawk Conference championship.

In order to keep that chance alive, the Blue Dragons take on the Seward County Saints in a big KJCCC road contest on Saturday afternoon. The No. 11-ranked Blue Dragons (25-3, 19-3 KJCCC) and Saints (19-9, 14-8), tip off at 2 p.m. at the Green House in Liberal.

Second place in the Jayhawk, the Blue Dragons trail first-place Dodge City by one game entering play on Saturday. Dodge City plays host to KJCCC third-place and No. 18 Coffeyville on Saturday. Hutchinson closes the regular season with Dodge City on Wednesday at the Sports Arena.
The Blue Dragons have won two games in a row after a decisive victory on Wednesday after defeating Pratt 85-44. <a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/forbes_landon_o30r">Landon Forbes</a> scored a game-high 18 points and tallied a career-high nine steals, which tied for the fourth-most steals in program history.
Seward County still has an outside chance to claim a top-four league finish. The Saints trail fourth-place Butler by two games. The Saints would have to win their two remaining games and Butler would have to lose its two remaining games. Then it would be left up to a tie-breaker because the Saints and Grizzlies split their games this season.
The Saints were defeated by Coffeyville 57-47 on Wednesday. Kylie Hunt led the Saints with 12 points.
The first game with Hutchinson and Seward County was a defensive grind won by the Blue Dragons, 52-40 on January 15 at the Sports Arena. That victory was Blue Dragon head coach John Ontjes' 500th career coaching victory. <a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_hailey_q6t6">Hailey Jackson</a> had 21 points and 11 rebounds to pace Hutchinson. The Dragon defense held Seward County 28 points under its season-scoring average.</div>

The Hutchinson Community College men's golf team opens its 2025 spring season on Monday and Tuesday at the Arkansas-Fort Smith Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Blue Dragons start the spring season ranked No. 2 in the Bushnell/Golfweek NJCAA Division I Coaches' Poll, which was released on Friday.
The Blue Dragons received one first-place vote in the latest rankings. Midland had 10 first-place vote and remained No. 1 in the poll.
The top three teams all remained the same from the last fall poll released &ndash; No. 1 Midland, No. 2 Hutchinson and No. 3 Odessa. Indian Hills jumped up three spots to No. 4 and Central Alabama moved up one spot to No. 5.
Garden City is ranked ninth in the first spring poll of the season. Dodge City is receiving votes.
Midland, Hutchinson and Odessa are the top three teams in the Clippd/Scoreboard NJCAA Division I team rankings. Central Alabama is fourth and Indian Hills is fifth.
The Blue Dragons won two fall tournaments &ndash; The Bent Tree Invitational and the NJCAA National Preview and had five Top 10 team finishes in the fall season.

⛳ Blue Dragons open season ranked No. 2

SALINA, Kan. - Both Hutchinson High basketball teams found that they had to rally past Salina South teams on Friday night at Salina South High, but both were successful coming away with wins.

Hutch High Girls pulled away late for a 44-35 victory. The Hutch High boys had to hang on to get a 50-47 win.

Playing hard fought games on back-to-back nights took its toll on the Salthawks but senior Kaia Smith stepped up to knock down her third 3 point basket on the night give Hutch a lead of five late in the contest to give the Salthawks the win.&nbsp; Senior Grace Posh then added four free throws to top off the win 44 to 35. Ava Krone and Kohlbie Craft each scored eight.

Salina South's Brooklyn Jorden led the Cougars with 13 points

Hutch (14-6) will now host Andover Central (13-7) on Tuesday night March 4th at 7pm at the Salthawk Activity Center in Hutchinson. The Salthawks are the #8 seed in class 5A West in the Hays sub-state. #1 Hays (20-0) will host #16 Great Bend (6-14). Winner's of Tuesday night's games will advance to the the higher seed home court on Friday, March 7th.

Hutch High&nbsp; trailed by four 36-32 but rallied late for a slim 50 to 47 win over the Cougars. The Salthawks scored 18 points in the final quarter led by Terrell King scoring nine of his 18 points to will the Salthawks to the win. Lamar Govain added 14 including 8 points in the third quarter. Taishaun Govain had 11 plus several big-time rebounds late to get the win.

Salina South's Sawyer Walker led the Cougars with 17 including four 3 point baskets.&nbsp;

The Hutch High boys had to hang on to get a 50-47 win.Girls recap-Playing hard fought games on back-to-back nights took its toll on the Salthawks but senior Kaia Smith stepped up to knock down her third 3 point basket on the night give Hutch a lead of five late in the contest to give the Salthawks the win.&nbsp; Senior Grace Posh then added four free throws to top off the win 44 to 35. Haworth's blast is the first walk-off home run for Wichita State since Garrett Kocis connected for a two-run shot against Kansas on March 23, 2022. The Shockers (3-6) entered the ninth inning trailing 4-3 but got a leadoff hit batter when Fullerton closer Jason Krakoski (0-1) drilled&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/ryan-callahan/9175" rel="smarttag" rev="9175" data-airgap-id="61">Ryan Callahan</a></dfn>&nbsp;in the leg with a fastball. A bunt force-out at second base and a groundout to first left the tying run at second with two outs, and Haworth cranked the first pitch he saw from Krakoski over the wall in right-center for his first home run of the season. NORMAN, Okla. &ndash;&nbsp;Kansas softball showcased its strength on both sides of the ball on the first day of the Oklahoma Tournament, extending its winning streak to six games with a dominant 10-2 run-rule victory over Marshall. &nbsp; &nbsp;The Jayhawks' offense came alive late against Marshall, while&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/lizzy-ludwig/6881" rel="smarttag" rev="6881" data-airgap-id="75">Lizzy Ludwig</a></dfn>&nbsp;delivered a standout performance in the circle, allowing just three hits. In their matchup against No. 1 Oklahoma, Kansas held its own early, keeping the game scoreless through two innings and showing resilience at the plate. Freshman&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/kaelee-washington/15853" rel="smarttag" rev="15853" data-airgap-id="76">Kaelee Washington</a></dfn>&nbsp;impressed in the circle, and the Jayhawks continued to fight, but the Sooners pulled away late to take a 9-1 win in six innings. &nbsp; Game One Kansas extended its winning streak to six games with a strong performance against Marshall in its opening matchup of the Oklahoma Tournament. The Jayhawks' defense set the tone early, shutting down Marshall in the first inning.&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/lizzy-ludwig/6881" rel="smarttag" rev="6881" data-airgap-id="77">Lizzy Ludwig</a></dfn>&nbsp;commanded the circle for Kansas, delivering back-to-back strikeouts in the first inning to quickly retire the side and send the Jayhawks to the plate. Neither team managed to score, sending the game into the second inning tied at zero. &nbsp; "I was just really proud of the way we competed in that first game," head coach&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/coaches/jennifer-mcfalls/526" rel="smarttag" rev="526" data-airgap-id="78">Jennifer McFalls</a></dfn>&nbsp;said. "We had a great energy from the whole team. It was, in my opinion, one of the best team wins for this season so far, because we got the offense, we got the defense, and the pitching - it just felt like a real complete team and a complete game." Marshall put pressure on Kansas in the top of the second, plating two runs to take an early lead. The Jayhawks struggled offensively in the second inning, recording just one hit before heading into the third. Kansas found its rhythm in the third inning when&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/september-flanagan/6890" rel="smarttag" rev="6890" data-airgap-id="79">September Flanagan</a></dfn>&nbsp;launched a home run to right center, putting the Jayhawks on the board. Trailing 2-1, Kansas quickly retired the Marshall batters to keep the momentum. The Jayhawks' offense came alive in the bottom of the fourth, sending seven batters to the plate and pushing across two runs to take their first lead of the day at 3-2. Kansas continued to stifle Marshall's offense, holding the Herd off the bases for four consecutive innings while adding to its own lead. Both teams battled in a defensive showdown where neither team scored through two innings. Freshman&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/kaelee-washington/15853" rel="smarttag" rev="15853" data-airgap-id="85">Kaelee Washington</a></dfn>&nbsp;made her presence known for the Sooners, recording three strikeouts through the first three innings. With strong defense behind her, Oklahoma held the Jayhawks scoreless through the early frames. &nbsp; The Sooners were able to get across home plate first, with four runs in one inning. However, after the Kansas defense retired three outs, they moved into the top of the fourth. &nbsp; <dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/hailey-cripe/6977" rel="smarttag" rev="6977" data-airgap-id="86">Hailey Cripe</a></dfn>&nbsp;sparked the Jayhawks' offense with a single to shortstop, reaching base before advancing on a wild pitch with freshman&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/ava-wallace/15856" rel="smarttag" rev="15856" data-airgap-id="87">Ava Wallace</a></dfn>&nbsp;at the plate. Wallace battled through a long at-bat before delivering a clutch hit to right field, driving Cripe home and cutting the Jayhawks' deficit to three. &nbsp; Oklahoma extended their lead significantly with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. In response, Kansas made a pitching change, bringing in&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/katie-brooks/6906" rel="smarttag" rev="6906" data-airgap-id="88">Katie Brooks</a></dfn>&nbsp;to the circle to halt the Sooners' momentum. Brooks worked to retire the runners and give the Jayhawks another opportunity at the plate as they looked to chip away at an 8-1 deficit. "You're playing the No. 1 team in the country, they know how to win," McFalls said. "They're going to score runs. We just have to realize that we're never out of it, and we can't quit. We've got to get some timely hits when we have those runners on base, especially against teams like OU." In the fifth, Kansas threatened with runners in scoring position and one out, but Oklahoma's defense turned back-to-back outs to hold them off. After being stunned by its first loss of the season, the No. 21-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team showed plenty of resiliency on Thursday at Hobart-Detter Field.
Coffeyville shocked the Blue Dragons with a seven-run final inning to rally from four runs down for a 9-6 victory over Hutchinson in Game 1 of a four-game non-KJCCC series. The Blue Dragons responded with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mazza_antony_9347">Anthony Mazza</a>&nbsp;leading a 10-hit attack with three hits and four RBIs as Hutchinson run-ruled Coffeyville 15-5 in seven innings.
Hutchinson is now 10-1. The Game 1 loss snapped the Dragons' program-record-tying nine-game winning streak to start the season. Coffeyville is 7-2. Games 3 and 4 of the series will be at Walter Johnson Park in Coffeyville at 1 and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
GAME 2 Recap &ndash; Hutchinson 15, Coffeyville 5 (7 innings) Mazza continued his torrid start to the season and extended his hitting streak to 11 games to lead the Dragons in Game 2.
Mazza went 3 for 3 for his ninth multi-hit game of the season with a double, two singles, two runs scored and four RBIs. Mazza's RBI single in the second was part of a four-run inning. He laced an RBI double in the Dragons' three run third inning and drove a two-run single through the right side of Hutchinson's eight-run fifth inning.
The Blue Dragons pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of four Coffeyville errors and 11 Red Raven walks.
<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mustow_adam_sf8t">A.J. Mustow</a>&nbsp;went 2 for 3 with double, two runs scored and two RBIs.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/griffin_leo_z3t1">Leo Griffin</a>&nbsp;was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, an RBI and stolen base.
Starting pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/perry_gabe_wq1l">Gabe Perry</a>&nbsp;(3-0) pitched a season-high five innings to earn his third win of the season. He allowed only two hits and one earned run with two strikeouts and no walks. Perry,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/pasteur_beau_5exl">Beau Pasteur</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/doty_aiden_00pr">Aiden Doty</a>&nbsp;held Coffeyville to six hits.
GAME 1 Recap &ndash; Coffeyville 9, Hutchinson 6 The Blue Dragons got off to a hot start in Game 1 with two runs in the first inning after an RBI triple by&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/stokes_taber_u8n0">Taber Stokes</a>&nbsp;and an RBI groundout from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/tygart_baker_ked6">C.J. Reid</a>. After the Red Ravens tied the game at 2-all in the second, the Dragons re-claimed the lead in the third with two unearned runs. Mazza doubled in a run and later scored on an errant throw while he was advancing to third on a wild pitch.
The Dragons took a 6-2 lead on a Mustow two-run double to right field in the fifth inning.
Coffeyville threatened in the fifth and sixth innings, stranding five runners on base in those innings. The Red Ravens then scored seven runs in the top of the seventh. Tied at 6-6 with the bases loaded, Nathon Cruz hit a three-run double off the right-field wall for a 9-6 lead.
The Dragons were held to a season-low five hits. Mazza led Hutchinson, going 2 for 3 with three runs, two doubles and an RBI. Stokes, Reid and Mustow each had hits.
Starting pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/roehler_trenton_pudh">Trenton Roehler</a>&nbsp;worked a season-long five innings and allowed five hits, two runs and had a career-high nine strikeouts.

ANDOVER, Kan. — The Andover Trojan basketball teams celebrated Senior Night on Thursday with victories over the Hutchinson Salthawks.

The Hutchinson girls battled hard, but Andover pulled away late to secure a 54-42 win, marking their 19th victory of the season. In the boys’ game, Hutchinson held a 17-11 lead after the first quarter, but struggles at the free-throw line—going 8-for-21—and late turnovers allowed Andover to come away with a 65-54 win.

Grace Posh and Kaia Smith each scored 17 points for the Salthawks, but Andover responded to an early Hutchinson run to pull away for the 54-42 victory. Asia’h Sullivan and Grier Hand each scored 14 points, while Aliyah Green added 13 to lead the Trojans.

Hutchinson now travels to Salina South for a makeup game that has been postponed twice. The Salthawks currently sit in the No. 8 seed in the Class 5A West, which would give them a first-round home game when sub-state tournaments begin next week. Their opponent will be announced when seedings are released by the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) on Saturday.

Christian Coleman added 14 points while shooting 4 of 10 from the field and 6 for 7 from the foul line. Yaxel Lendeborg shot 4 of 6 from the field and 2 for 6 from the free-throw line to finish with 11 points, while adding eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

Corey Washington finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and three blocks for the Shockers (17-11, 7-8). Wichita State also got 17 points from Xavier Bell. Quincy Ballard finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds. The Shockers ended a six-game winning streak with the loss.

UAB took the lead with 7:12 to go in the first half and did not give it up. The score was 39-34 at halftime, with Vasquez racking up 11 points. Vasquez scored 18 points in the second half to help lead UAB to an eight-point victory.

Senior Jacob Bofink bowled 669 series to finish in fourth place and qualify for the state bowling championship. Bofink bowled a 279, 234 and 156 in his three games.

Fellow senior Tanner Cunningham bowled a 569 series to finish 24th individually, but unfortunately did not qualify for state. Cunningham bowled a 181, 190 and 198.

Newton freshman Remington Burke is a state qualifier with a ninth place finish, bowling 235-221-188 for a 644 series. Newton finished fourth place as a team.

Maize South boys won the regional with a 3476, while Salina South finished second with 3182 and Bishop Carroll finished third with 3174.&nbsp;Hutchinson finished ninth as a team.&nbsp;

On the girls side, it was freshman Alexis Jones with a 465 series to finish 20th and lead the Salthawks.&nbsp;

The Salthawks did not qualify any girls for state.

Bishop Carroll won the regional with a 2915 score, followed by Salina South with 2910 and Maize South in third with 2796.&nbsp;

The class 5A state championship will take place on Wednesday, March 5 at Bowlero Northrock in Wichita.&nbsp;

KU sent six hitters to the plate in the bottom of the ninth and all of them scored. &nbsp; HOW IT HAPPENED &bull; After a scoreless first inning for both sides, Kansas broke through first with two runs in the second inning. With two outs,&nbsp;Diggins singled and then senior&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/brady-counsell/16135" rel="smarttag" rev="16135" data-airgap-id="72">Brady Counsell</a></dfn>&nbsp;came up and hit a two-run homer to left field for a 2-0 Kansas lead. &bull; Omaha (2-6) answered back in the top of the third with a pair of RBI doubles by Tyler Bishop and Mason Gaines. That tied the game at 2-2. &bull; Sophomore&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/brady-ballinger/16147" rel="smarttag" rev="16147" data-airgap-id="73">Brady Ballinger</a></dfn>&nbsp;would help the Jayhawks take the lead back in the bottom of the third with an RBI double off the wall to score&nbsp;Osoria. The run gave Kansas a 3-2 lead. &bull; The Mavericks responded in the top of the fifth with two runs to take a 4-3 lead. One run scored on an RBI groundout and the other came in on a fielding error. &bull; Ballinger's next at-bat came in the bottom of the fifth and he sent one over the center field wall for a solo homer. The home run was the third of the season for Ballinger and tied the game at 4-4. &bull; Omaha would quickly respond in the top of the sixth with two more runs. Henry Zipay hit a solo homer and a second run scored on a throwing error. That put the Mavericks back ahead 6-4. &bull; KU was able to get one of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI fielder's choice by Counsell to cut the game to 6-5. &bull; The Mavericks were able to score two more runs in the top of the seventh. Jackson Trout hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 8-5. &bull; Kansas loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning but was unable to score. &bull; The Jayhawks loaded the bases again in the eighth and this time senior&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/tommy-barth/16141" rel="smarttag" rev="16141" data-airgap-id="74">Tommy Barth</a></dfn>&nbsp;was able to draw a walk to make it 8-6. &bull; In the ninth, Kansas was able to take the lead for good.&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/michael-brooks/16122" rel="smarttag" rev="16122" data-airgap-id="75">Michael Brooks</a></dfn>&nbsp;led off the inning with a walk and then Diggins delivered his game-tying two-run homer.
