But the biggest reasons might be a whole lot simpler. The offensive line protecting Mahomes has been entirely rebuilt after the fiasco in Tampa, and three of the starters in Week 1 had never played a regular-season game. The playmakers surrounding Mahomes aren't as potent, the schedule the first seven weeks has been brutal and the only luck he's had has been bad.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — J.T. Compher scored two goals in the Colorado Avalanche's 4-3 victory over St. Louis on Thursday. It was the Blues' first loss this season. Nazem Kadri and Cale Makar also scored for the Avalanche. Vladimir Tarasenko, Brayden Schenn and Colton Parayko scored for St. Louis. Colorado goalie Darcy Kuemper recorded 15 saves. Blues goalie Jordan Binnington stopped 38 shots. The Avalanche outshot St. Louis 14-5 in the first period and 30-12 after two periods.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The New York Giants think the Kansas City Chiefs are still one of the heavyweights in the NFL even though the two-time defending AFC champs are just 3-4 through their first seven games. The Chiefs believe in themselves, too. But if Kansas City is going to claw back into playoff contention, it had better start against the struggling Giants on Monday night. The Chiefs play five of their next six games at Arrowhead Stadium with a bye week thrown in the mix. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will play despite taking a wicked blow to the head against Tennessee.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — No. 9 Iowa owns a better record than Wisconsin and won 28-7 in last year's matchup between the two rivals in the Big Ten West. Yet Iowa will head into Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday as an underdog. Each team fared differently against Purdue the past couple of weeks. Wisconsin won 30-13 at Purdue after Purdue won 24-7 at Iowa a week earlier when the Hawkeyes were ranked No. 2. The winner will keep control of their shot at a division title.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Brock Purdy seems to have his way against West Virginia. On Saturday the Iowa State quarterback has the chance to beat the Mountaineers for the fourth straight season. He's already done it against Kansas, and another fourpeat is possible next month against Texas Tech. Iowa State is 12-2 with Purdy in the month of October alone. Purdy is second in the Bowl Subdivision with a 75% completion rate. He's thrown for seven touchdowns against West Virginia in his career with two interceptions. He's also run for two scores and has been sacked three times. West Virginia's offense has averaged 175 yards over the teams' last three meetings.&nbsp;

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — One play here or there could have made a difference for No. 15 Oklahoma State in its 24-21 loss to Iowa State last week, the first defeat of the season. TheCowboys want to be sure that they don't overlook a pesky Kansas squad that nearly pulled off a monumental upset of No. 4 Oklahoma.

UNDATED (AP) — TCU heads to Kansas State on Saturday with coach Gary Patterson suddenly on the hot seat. The longtime Horned Frogs coach has overseen a defense that has been a big part in their 3-4 start to the season, and many fans are beginning to turn against the coach that led them from also-ran in the Mountain West to Big 12 contender. But they'll have a chance to turn things around against the Wildcats, who are coming off a much-needed win over Texas Tech last weekend.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The final stretch of Nebraska's football season is all about gaining bowl eligibility. The Cornhuskers need to go 3-1 in their last four games. The final stretch begins Saturday when Purdue visits Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. The Huskers are in danger of not going to a postseason game for a fifth straight year. After Purdue, Nebraska plays fifth-ranked Ohio State at home, Wisconsin on the road and No. 9 Iowa at home. The Boilermakers are a full game behind Iowa and Minnesota in the Big Ten West and need two more wins to achieve bowl eligibility.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers have knocked off the NFL's last unbeaten team.

The Packers came away with a 24-21 win over the Cardinals when Kyler Murray threw an interception on second-and-goal with 12 seconds remaining. The pick came shortly after the Packers were stopped on downs near the Arizona goal line.

Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes to Randall Cobb as the Packers won their seventh straight since a season-opening loss to New Orleans. Rodgers was 22 of 37 for just 184 yards and no interceptions.

Murray finished with 274 yards passing and two interceptions as the Cardinals fell to 7-1.

Mayfield practices...Ingram expected to play Sunday for Saints

UNDATED (AP) — Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has practiced for a second straight day, testing his injured shoulder while wearing pads and a new harness as he tries to get ready to play Sunday. 

Mayfield sat out last week's win over Denver with a torn labrum and fracture in his non-throwing shoulder. He made it through Wednesday's practice without any difficulty and was on the field again Thursday as the Browns continue preparing for the rival Pittsburgh Steelers. 

If Mayfield can't play this week, Case Keenum will start again. The 33-year-old backup led the Browns to a 17-14 win over the Broncos last week. 

— Saints coach Sean Payton says running back Mark Ingram is slated to practice with the team on Friday and is "absolutely" expected to play against the Buccaneers this weekend. The Saints and the Houston Texans have agreed to a trade sending Ingram back to the club where he spent his first eight NFL seasons before leaving for Baltimore in 2019. 

— Former NFL head coach Jack Del Rio is showing little interest in being a possible candidate for the vacant Southern Cal job. When asked about the position, Del Rio said he liked his current position as Washington's defensive coordinator. He played for the Trojans in the 1980s.

— The NFL has instituted some policy changes to the Rooney Rule designed to further enhance diversity, equity and inclusion in hiring practices. The rule has been expanded to require teams to interview at least two external minority candidates for general manager/executive of football operations positions, and all coordinator roles. 

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Joel Quenneville (KWEHN'-vihl) has resigned as head coach of the Florida Panthers.

The decision follows a Thursday meeting with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and comes two days after he was among those implicated for not swiftly responding to allegations by a Chicago Blackhawks player in 2010 of being sexually assaulted by another coach.

An investigation released Tuesday said Quenneville and others in the Blackhawks organization did not prioritize addressing Kyle Beach's allegations, presumably because they did not want to take away from the team's push toward a championship. Quenneville was head coach of the Blackhawks at the time.

Quenneville had said as recently as Wednesday morning that he was unaware of the allegations until this summer. But in an interview that aired Wednesday evening on TSN, Beach said there was "absolutely no way" Quenneville could deny knowing about the allegations.

At 7-0-0, the Panthers are off to their best start in the franchise's 28-year history.

UNDATED (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes are 6-0 for the first time in franchise history.

Frederik Andersen made 33 saves for his first shutout with Carolina, leading a 3-0 win over the Bruins. 

Tony DeAngelo and Nino Niederreiter (NEE'-dur-eye-tur) scored for the Hurricanes before Andrei Svechnikov (SVEHCH'-nih-kahv) added an empty-net goal.

The Hurricanes killed all three of Boston's third-period power plays, including 61 seconds of a two-man advantage.

— The Blues suffered their first loss of the season as J.T. Compher scored two goals to lead the Avalanche to a 4-3 victory at St. Louis. Nazem Kadri (NA'-zehm KA'-dree) and Cale Makar (mah-KAHR') also scored and Darcy Kuemper (KEHM'-pur) faced just 18 shots in getting the win. Blues goalie Jordan Binnington finished with 38 saves, and also was given a rare 10-minute misconduct near the end of the second period. 

— The Flames earned a 4-0 win at Pittsburgh as Jacob Markstrom stopped 45 shots for his second shutout in his last three starts. Johnny Gaudreau (goo-DROH') scored his first goal in the opening period, and Blake Coleman, Dillon Dube and Milan Lucic scored in the third as Calgary swept a five-game road trip. The Flames never trailed during the road trip, outscoring the opposition 21-7.

— Alex Killorn scored twice in the first period of the Lightning's 5-1 win against the Coyotes. Steven Stamkos had a goal and an assist in the first period to help Tampa Bay get his first home win of the season. Andrei Vasilevskiy (va-sih-LEHV'-skee) made 24 saves and blanked Arizona until Lawson Crouse scored with 7:24 remaining.

— Haydn Fleury had the first two-goal game of his career and Brandon Tanev (TAN'-ehv) added his sixth of the season into an empty net, carrying the Kraken to a 4-1 verdict over the Wild. Tanev and Mark Giordano both scored empty net goals to secure Seattle's first-ever winning streak. Philipp Grubauer made 30 saves, including a critical stop of Kaprizov on a breakaway in the closing seconds of the second period.

— Buffalo coughed up a 3-0 lead before Rasmus Asplund scored his second goal with 43.9 seconds left in overtime to complete the Sabres' 4-3 win at Anaheim. Zemgus Girgensons (ZEHM'-guhs GERE'-gehn-suhns) and Arttu Ruotsalainen (AHR'-too root-sah-LAY'-nehn) also scored as the Sabres opened a four-game West Coast trip by earning at least a point for the sixth time in their seven games. Craig Anderson stopped 34 shots in a standout performance in goal.

— Montreal won in San Jose for the first time in nearly 22 years as Jake Allen made 45 saves and Mike Hoffman scored for the third straight game in the Canadiens' 4-0 shutout of the Sharks. Alexander Romanov and Brendan Gallagher also scored goals as Montreal snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Sharks. The Habs had been outscored, 25-11 in dropping six of their first seven games.

— The Jets knocked off the Kings, 3-2 as Pierre-Luc Dubois (look doo-BWAH') scored twice and Kyle Connor set up three goals. Andrew Copp had a power-play goal in Winnipeg's fourth win in a row. Jets netminder Eric Comrie allowed two goals on 32 shots in his season debut.

— The Flyers were 2-1 winners at Vancouver behind Sean Couturier's (koo-TOOR'-ee-ayz) goal and an assist. James van Riemsdyk (REEMZ'-dyk) also scored on the power play for Philadelphia and Claude Giroux had two assists. Quinn Hughes tallied for the Canucks.

UNDATED (AP) — Washington Capitals winger T.J. Oshie (OH'-shee) has been listed as week to week with a lower-body injury.

Oshie took a shot from Detroit's Danny DeKeyser off the outside of his right foot during the third period of the Red Wings' 3-2 overtime win on Wednesday. He limped to the bench but did not miss any shifts and finished the game. 

Oshie has scored four goals and six points in seven games this season.

— Wild forwards Mats Zuccarello (zoo-kah-REH'-loh) and Rem Pitlick have entered the NHL's COVID-19 protocol. Zuccarello is Minnesota's leading scorer with seven points in six games, including three goals.

UNDATED (AP) — The Washington Wizards have continued their impressive start under new coach Wes Unseld Jr. by knocking off one of last season's Eastern Conference finalists.

The Wizards are 4-1 after Bradley Beal scored 27 points in a 122-111 downing of the Hawks. Montrezl (MAHN'-trehz) Harrell added 25 with 13 rebounds for Washington, which won without injured guard Spencer Dinwiddie.

The Hawks cut a 20-point second-half deficit to five in the fourth quarter, but Harrell dunked off a pass from Beal before Beal slammed home a basket.

John Collins led Atlanta with 28 points on 14-of-16 shooting. Trae Young added 15 points and 13 assists.

— Joel Embiid (joh-EHL' ehm-BEED') played through lingering knee pain while scoring 30 points and grabbing 18 rebounds in the 76ers' 110-102 win over the Pistons. Embiid sank four free throws and buried a 3 from the top of the arc down the stretch to save the Sixers from a complete collapse. Tobias Harris scored 17 points and Maxey had 16 for the Sixers.

— Ja (jah) Morant made a driving layup with 57.9 seconds left and finished with 30 points as the Grizzlies knocked off the Warriors, 104-101 in overtime. Desmond Bane scored 19 for the Grizzlies, who ended a two-game skid and concluded their four-game West Coast trip with a back-to-back following a 116-96 defeat at Portland on Wednesday. Stephen Curry wound up with 36 points but missed two key 3-pointers late.

— Bojan (BOY'-ahn) Bogdanovic scored 19 points to lead seven Jazz players in double-figures in a 122-91 thrashing of the Rockets. Rudy Gobert (goh-BEHR') contributed 16 points and 14 boards for Utah, which led by 21 at halftime. Jordan Clarkson chipped in 16 points, and fellow backup Joe Ingles had 14 to help the Jazz move to 4-0.

— Luka Doncic (DAHN'-chihch) scored 10 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter of the Mavericks' 104-99 victory against the Spurs. Jalen Brunson added 19 points for the Mavericks, while Dorian Finney-Smith had 14 and Maxi Kleber 12. San Antonio jumped out to a 25-5 lead, and the Mavericks didn't have a field goal until Doncic scored with 6:33 left in the first quarter.

— Kemba Walker delivered 21 points and RJ Barrett added 20 as the Knicks handed the Bulls their first loss of the season, 104-103. Julius Randle had 13 points and 16 rebounds as New York won for the fourth time in five games. Chicago star Zack LaVine (lah-veen') scored 25 points despite playing with a torn ligament in his left thumb. 

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Bullets player and general manager Bob Ferry has died at 84. 

Ferry became the team's GM in 1973 and held that position until 1990. The Bullets reached the NBA Finals in 1975 and won its only championship three years later. He won executive of the year honors in 1979 and 1982.

Ferry was drafted by the St. Louis Hawks in 1959 and played 10 seasons in the NBA, the last five with the Bullets.

TOP 25 COLLEGE FOOTBALL-COASTAL CAROLINA/TROY

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Coastal Carolina has rebounded from its first loss since last season.

Grayson McCall threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third as the 24th-ranked Chanticleers took down Troy, 35-28. McCall passed for 294 yards, including scoring throws of 66 yards to Jaivon Heiligh and 71 yards to Braydon Bennett. 

ATLANTA (AP) — The World Series shifts to Atlanta for Game 3 on Friday after the Braves and Astros split the first two games in Houston.

Ian Anderson goes to the mound for the Braves in their first World Series home game since 1999. He'll be opposed by Luis Garcia, the only pitcher to go eight innings in a game this postseason.

Each team has earned 7-2 victories so far. The Astros evened the Fall Classic on Wednesday as Jose Altuve (al-TOO'-vay) homered and Jose Urquidy (ur-KEE'-dee) worked five strong innings.

UNDATED (AP) — The San Diego Padres have hired Bob Melvin from the Oakland Athletics as their new manager.

That's according to a person with knowledge of the deal who tells The Associated Press that Melvin will receive a three-year deal.

Melvin replaces Jayce Tingler, who was fired Oct. 6 after a brutal second-half collapse dropped the Padres out of contention.

Melvin became the winningest manager in Oakland team history this year, but the A's missed the playoffs following three straight postseason berths.

— Marlins shortstop Miguel Rojas (ROH'-hahs) has accepted a two-year deal worth $5 million annually and runs through 2023. Rojas batted .265 this season for Miami with nine home runs and 48 RBIs. He leads all current Marlins with 730 games played for the team.

SOUTHAMPTON, Bermuda (AP) — Brandon Hagy and Chad Ramey avoided the worst of the wind while recording 6-under 65's to share the clubhouse lead in the Bermuda Championship. 

The wind and spots of heavy rain were so fierce that play was suspended briefly in the morning and later halted by darkness.

Ramey managed to finish off a bogey-free round right before play was halted. Hagy made nine birdies to offset his bogeys, one of which was a 2-foot par putt he missed on the par-5 seventh hole.

Buhler ends its season at 11-7-0. Coffeyville will play in the state quarterfinals Tuesday at home against Wichita-Trinity Academy.

Taylor have been named finalists for 2021 American League Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, Rawlings Sporting Goods, Inc. announced today. The four finalists are the most by the Royals since 2017, and are the second most among American League teams this season.

Since 2011, Kansas City’s 18 Rawlings Gold Glove winners are the most in the Major Leagues, and the Royals have had at least one winner in each of the last 10 seasons (2011-20), which is the second-longest active streak in baseball, one behind Colorado’s 11. Perez has earned five Rawlings Gold Glove Awards in that span (2013-16, 2018), which are third most in franchise history, behind Alex Gordon and Frank White, who both won eight. Merrifield, Benintendi and Taylor are all looking for their first awards.

Rawlings announced today that the winners will be revealed on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. CT, during a special edition of “Baseball Tonight,” which will air on ESPN. The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team received a spark from freshman Sophie Connor off the bench, but couldn’t sustain the momentum on Wednesday night as Barton won the first two sets and ultimately downed the Blue Dragons in four sets on Sophomore Night.

The Blue Dragons hit .089 for the match and lost 17-25, 21-25, 25-21, 19-25 in the regular-season finale.

Hutchinson closed the regular season with a 19-15 record and will finish sixth in the Jayhawk West standings with a 7-9 league mark. Barton improved to 23-10 overall and 13-3 in the Jayhawk West. Pairings for the Region VI Tournament will be released last this weekend. The Blue Dragons don’t know an opponent, but will be on the road for the opening round.

Before the match, the Blue Dragons honors their four sophomores – Kristina Head, Shelby Reeder, Zoe Schmidt and Tauja Durham.

After dropping the first two sets – behind out-hit by Barton .231-.001 – Connor came off the bench and gave the Blue Dragons an immediate boost. She had two kills in a 5-0 run that turned around a two-point deficit into an 18-15 lead in the third set. Connor had six kills in the third set and powered the Dragons to a 25-21 set win. Hutchins hit .233 in the set.

The Dragons couldn’t sustain their momentum, though, hitting just .091 in the fourth set. The Blue Dragons led 14-11 after a Connor kill, but the Cougars answered with a 6-0 run and scored on 13 of the final 18 rallies to close out the match.

Connor finished with nine kills on .094 hitting with six digs in her two sets played.

Freshman Blondie Penaflor led the Blue Dragons with 12 kills on .318 hitting. Head had nine kills on .111 hitting. Freshman Aubreigh Haxton hit .231 and had a season-high six kills.

The Blue Dragons had another stellar defensive game on Wednesday with five players registering double-figure digs. Head had 13 digs to lead the Dragons. Libero Rachel Easom and freshman Morgan Harvey had 11 digs each, while Schmidt and setter Andrea Serrano had 10 digs each.

Freshman setter McKinley Johnson had 21 assists with six digs. Serrano had her sixth double-double of the season with 19 assists and 10 digs.

Barton out-blocked the Blue Dragons 10-4. Head had three blocks to lead the Dragons.

Tasiah Nunnery had 15 kills on .233 hitting to lead the Cougars, who hit .185 as a team.

Dragons Fall to Barton in 4 on Sophomore Night

The NJCAA named the 6-foot-4, 190-pound Blue Dragon quarterback from Little Elm, Texas, as the National Offensive Player of the Week for Week 8.

Laible is the second Blue Dragon this season to be named a national player of the week. Kicker C.J. Moya was the National Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 4. Laible is the first Blue Dragon to earn National Offensive weekly honors since quarterback Mark Wright in 2019. On Tuesday, Laible was named the Jayhawk Conference National Player of the Week.

Against Dodge City last Saturday, Laible completed 16 of 24 passes for career highs of 363 yards and five touchdowns. Four of those five touchdown passes came in the first quarter as Hutchinson opened a quick 28-0 lead. His touchdown passes came from 11, 57, 15, 39 and 81 yards.

Laible’s 363 yards were the fourth-highest single-game passing total by a Blue Dragon quarterback in program history. Now with 25 career touchdown passes, Laible went from a tie for 10th to fifth in career touchdown passes.

For the season Laible is now 104 of 193 passing for 1,506 yards and 14 touchdowns. He ranks first in the NJCAA in completions, passing yards and touchdown passes and second passing yards per game.

Lowe is the first Blue Dragon player to earn National Player of the Week honors since Jen Rogers in 2014. She is the second Blue Dragon this season to receive a national weekly award. The Bulldogs appear to have a smooth path to the Southeastern Conference championship football game in Atlanta. They can thank the Eastern Division. Despite having Georgia to boost its credibility, the East lacks depth and is again playing catch-up to the West, which has won 11 of the last 12 SEC championships. IRVING, Texas (AP) — Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford, Iowa State All-America tight end Charlie Kolar and Michigan star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson are among 13 finalists for the Campbell Trophy, which honors the top scholar-athlete in college football. The National Football Foundation chooses finalists from all levels of college football and the winner will be announced on Dec. 7. All finalists receive a $18,000 post-graduate scholarship. The winner receives an additional $7,000 and the William V. Campbell Trophy, named after the former Columbia coach and player.&nbsp;

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Astros have come away with a split of the first two games in the World Series.

Jose Altuve (al-TOO'-vay) doubled early, homered late and scored twice as the Astros whipped the Braves, 7-2. Altuve hit a leadoff double and scored in the first inning before adding a solo homer in the seventh. 

Jose Siri, Martin Maldonado (mahr-TEEN' mal-doh-NAH'-doh) and Michael Brantley delivered run-scoring hits while Houston scored four times in the second inning off Braves starter and loser Max Fried (freed). Siri's RBI single and daring baserunning sparked the rally.

Jose Urquidy (ur-KEE'-dee) picked up the win after striking out seven while allowing two runs and six hits over five innings.

Travis d'Arnaud (dahr-NOH') was the center of Atlanta's attack, hitting a solo homer and scoring on Freddie Freeman's RBI single.

Fried was lifted in the sixth inning, charged with five earned runs on seven hits.

UNDATED (AP) — A Cleveland-area roller derby team that has called itself the Guardians since 2013 is suing Cleveland's newly renamed Major League Baseball team to stop it from using the Guardians name. 

The former Cleveland Indians announced in July that they would change the team's name to Guardians after years of criticism that the former name and Chief Wahoo logo was racist. 

A lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court in Cleveland says the baseball team changed the name despite knowing the roller derby team was using it. The Indians issued a statement saying team officials don't think there's a conflict. 

— Nelson Cruz has received Major League Baseball's Roberto Clemente Award for character, community involvement and philanthropy. The 17-year MLB veteran and seven-time All-Star provided financial support to 1,200 families in his hometown in the Dominican Republic during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

UNDATED (AP) — The Brooklyn Nets are among the favorites to win the NBA championship, but they are still seeking their first winning streak of the season.

The Nets are 2-3 as they continued to alternate losses and wins with a 106-93 setback against the Miami Heat. Bam Adebayo (ad-eh-BY'-oh) had 24 points and nine rebounds for the Heat, who outscored Brooklyn, 30-20 in the paint and had a 15-2 edge in second-chance points.

Jimmy Butler added 17 points for Miami, while teammate P.J. Tucker finished with 15.

Kevin Durant had 25 points and 11 rebounds for Brooklyn.

Russell Westbrook had 20 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists for the Lakers, who played a second straight game without LeBron James because of an ankle injury.

— D'Angelo Russell, Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards combined for 79 points as the Timberwolves held off the Bucks, 113-108. Russell finished with 29 points, four more than Towns and Edwards. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 40 points and 16 rebounds for the Bucks, who were without starting center Brook Lopez and point guard Jrue Holiday. 

— Miles Bridges scored 30 or more points for the third time in four games, hitting a 3-pointer with 1:02 remaining to put the Hornets in control of a 120-111 win over the Magic. Bridges scored 31 points and Gordon Hayward added 24 in Charlotte's fourth win in five games. Cole Anthony led Orlando with 24 points and six assists.

— Montrezl (MAHN'-trehz) Harrell scored 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting and had 11 rebounds in the Wizards' third win in four games, 116-107 over the Celtics. Spencer Dinwiddie added 22 points and Bradley Beal had 17 for Washington. Jayson Tatum's 23 points led Boston.

— Trey Young scored 31 points and the Atlanta Hawks capitalized on 21 offensive rebounds to hold off the Pelicans, 102-99. Atlanta went in front for good when John Collins came straight down the lane unimpeded to put back Young's missed 3 off the back rim with a dunk with 55 seconds left. Collins had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Hawks, who've begun the season with three victories in their first four games.

— The Raptors won in Toronto for the first time in 20 months as Fred VanVleet had a season-high 26 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in their 118-100 victory over the Pacers. OG Anunoby (an-uh-NOH'-bee) scored a season-high 25 points for the Raptors, whose previous win in their home arena was Feb. 23, 2020. Scottie Barnes had 18 points and seven assists, and fellow rookie Dalano Banton came off the bench to score 10 points as the Raptors won in Toronto for the first time in four tries this season.

— CJ McCollum provided 25 points and Damian Lillard had 20 for the Trail Blazers in a 116-96 thumping of the Grizzlies. Anfernee Simons had 17 points off the bench for the Blazers, who held Ja (jah) Morant to a season-low 17 points. Lightning's Kucherov out 8-10 weeks after undergoing surgery

UNDATED (AP) — Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov (KOO'-cheh-rahv) is expected to be out 8-10 weeks after having surgery for an unspecified lower-body injury. 

Kucherov was injured Oct. 16 in Tampa Bay's third game of the season. He doubled over in pain after an innocent-looking collision in the third period of the Lightning's game at Washington. 

Kucherov was Tampa Bay's leading scorer on each of the past two Stanley Cup runs. He missed the entire regular season last year recovering from hip surgery.

— Blackhawks CEO Danny Wirtz has met with his players a day after a report detailed how senior team leaders badly mishandled allegations that an assistant coach sexually assaulted Kyle Beach during the team's Stanley Cup run in 2010. The ramifications now stretch into several corners of the NHL. Florida coach Joel Quenneville (KWEHN'-vihl) is slated to meet with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman Thursday.
