ST. LOUIS (AP) — Nick Loftin homered to start a six-run fifth inning, Bobby Witt Jr. also homered and the Kansas City Royals erased a five-run deficit to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-7 on Tuesday night in the major league debut of top Royals' prospect Jac Caglianone.

Caglianone, recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Monday, went hitless in five at bats.

Daniel Lynch IV, Steven Cruz (2-0), Angel Zerpa, John Schreiber and Taylor Clarke combined to pitch 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief before Carlos Estévez pitched a scoreless ninth for his 17th save.

Vinnie Pasquantino hit a game-tying two-run double off Cardinals reliever Steven Matz (3-2), and Salvador Perez followed with an RBI single to give Kansas City an 8-7 fifth inning lead.

Loftin hit his first home run since last June 18 to start the rally. After Drew Waters, Kyle Isbel and Jonathan India singled, Witt hit a two-run single to right field to cut Kansas City’s deficit to 7-5 ending Cardinals starter Andre Pallante’s night.

Pallante allowed a career high-tying seven runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Alec Burleson hit a two-run home run to center field to cap off a five-run third inning and chase Michael Lorenzen (3-7) from the game after allowing seven runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Witt hit his seventh home run of the season to give Kansas City a 2-0 first inning lead.

Caglianone stepped up to the plate for the first time to lead off the top of the second inning. He lined a 2-2 pitch to the warning track in right-center field where Victor Scott II ran 92 feet to rob him of his first career hit.

St. Louis lost for the first time in eight games when scoring at least four runs in Pallante's starts.

Royals LHP Noah Cameron (2-1, 1.05 ERA) will face Cardinals RHP Miles Mikolas (4-2, 3.90) Wednesday night.

WICHITA, Kan. -&nbsp;Former Missouri Valley Conference foes, Wichita State and Loyola Chicago, have agreed to a home-and-home series, beginning in 2025. Wichita State will host the Ramblers in Charles Koch Arena on&nbsp;Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025&nbsp;and make the return trip to Chicago in&nbsp;2026&nbsp;with a date to be announced at a later time. The two programs were members of the MVC for four seasons together before Wichita State departed for the American in 2017. Loyola has since joined the Atlantic 10 Conference. Wichita State never lost to the Ramblers during their stint together in the MVC. The Shockers are 27-9 all-time vs. Loyola and enters the November matchup&nbsp;having won the last 11 meetings. The last time the two teams squared off, Wichita State defeated Loyola, 81-64, in Chicago on Feb. 12, 2017.  </figure><div>KANSAS CITY, Mo.&mdash;Major League Baseball announced today that Royals left-handed pitcher&nbsp;Kris Bubic&nbsp;has been named American League Pitcher of the Month for May. He&rsquo;s the 10th different Royals pitcher (17th instance) to be named American League Pitcher of the Month, and the first since&nbsp;Cole Ragans&nbsp;in August 2023.

Bubic, 27, went 3-0 in 5 starts last month with an American League-best 0.56 ERA (2 ER in 32.1 IP), which was the best mark in the month of May in Royals history (min. 5 starts) and was the 3rd best in any month, trailing only&nbsp;Zack Greinke&rsquo;s&nbsp;0.50 ERA (2 ER in 36.0 IP) in April 2009 and Greinke&rsquo;s 0.55 ERA (2 ER in 33.0 IP) in September 2009. The only runs Bubic allowed in May came on a solo HR by Houston&rsquo;s&nbsp;Jeremy Pe&ntilde;a&nbsp;on May 13 and an RBI single by&nbsp;Ty France&nbsp;on May 25.

Bubic continued his brilliant start to the 2025 season with 7.0 innings of 1-run ball on Sunday, June 1 vs. Detroit, his 8th start out of 12 this season vs. teams who made the playoffs in 2024.

For the season, Bubic leads Major League Baseball with a 1.43 ERA (12 ER in 75.1 IP), which is the best mark through 12 starts in franchise history. It&rsquo;s the 3rd-lowest ERA through 12 starts by an American League pitcher in the Wild Card Era (since 1995), trailing only&nbsp;Pedro Mart&iacute;nez&nbsp;(0.99 ERA in 2000) and&nbsp;Justin Verlander&nbsp;(1.11 ERA in 2018).

⚾ Bubic named AL Pitcher of the Month for May

Hutchinson Community College sophomore shortstop&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/backhaus_bailey_44zk">Bailey Backhaus</a>&nbsp;was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Golden Shoe winner for 2025 NJCAA Division I Softball on Tuesday.

The Golden Shoe Award is presented by New Balance. The award is given to one of the top base stealers in the nation.

Backhaus set a new Blue Dragon Softball single-season record for steals, swiping 57 of 58 bags this season. The old record of Lexi Williams' 53 stolen bases in 2021. Leading the Jayhawk Conference and ranking fifth in NJCAA Division I this past season. The sophomore from Newkirk, Oklahoma recorded multiple steals 17 times, including a season-best and team single-game-record-tying three Fort Hays Tech Northwest twice, Seward County and Colby.

For her Blue Dragon career, Backhaus tied for the career stolen base record with Williams with 82 steals. Backhaus was 82 of 87 in her two-year Blue Dragon career.

Backhaus concluded an incredible two-year run with the Blue Dragons that included 202 career hits (most by a two-year player in Blue Dragon history) and a career batting average of .502, which established a Blue Dragon career record.

She hit .530, the second-highest batting average in a single season in team history with 98 hits, second only to her record 104 hits from her freshman season in 2024. In 30 KJCCC games, Backhaus hit a torrid .608 (76 for 125) with 64 runs scored and 35 RBIs from the leadoff position.

Of her 98 hits, nine went for doubles and she hit a single-season record 10 triples to up her career record to 16 triples.

Backhaus also broke a Blue Dragon single-season record for runs scores with 78, again surpassing her own record of 77 set last season.

Backhaus had a season-long 16 game hitting streak this season and reached base in 33 consecutive games. She had 31 multi-hit games this season, including three five-hit games against Fort Hays Tech Northwest on March 1, Colby on March 16 and Garden City on April 17. She tied single-game record for runs with five against Pratt on February 26 and Garden City on April 17.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals announced this morning that infielder&nbsp;Maikel Garcia&nbsp;and left-handed pitcher&nbsp;Kris Bubic&nbsp;have been named Royals Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for May. The awards are determined by a local media vote.

This marks the first career monthly honor for Garcia, who slashed .349/.412/.528 (37-for-106) in the month of May with 15 RBI, including 7 go-ahead RBI which tied for the 3rd-most in the Majors behind only Boston’s&nbsp;Rafael Devers&nbsp;(9) and Pittsburgh’s&nbsp;Bryan Reynolds&nbsp;(8). Additionally, his 37 hits last month tied for the 3rd most in the American League, just 2 behind leaders&nbsp;José Ramírez&nbsp;and&nbsp;Jacob Wilson&nbsp;(39 each). His 37 hits matched&nbsp;Vinnie Pasquantino&nbsp;for the team lead, and were the most by a Royal in the month of May since&nbsp;Jon Jay&nbsp;had 43 hits in May 2018. Garcia also ranked among AL leaders last month in triples (T-3rd, 2), batting average (8th) and OPS (12th, .940), and he recorded multiple hits in 12 of his 28 games, which tied for the 5th most such games in the Majors, behind Wilson (14),&nbsp;Freddie Freeman&nbsp;(14),&nbsp;Trea Turner&nbsp;(13) and Ramírez (13). Garcia put together a 14-game hit streak from May 14-30, which matched the 2nd-longest run of his career, trailing an 18-game hit streak done in 2023. Over the course of his streak, Garcia slashed .407/.450/.574 (22-for-54) and raised his season batting average 31 points, from .289 to .320 by the end of play on May 30.

Bubic leads the Majors with a 1.43 ERA (12 ER in 75.1 IP) this season, thanks in large part to his dominant month of May in which he allowed just 2 runs in 32.1 innings pitched, good for an American League-leading 0.56 ERA. It was also the best ERA in the month of May in Royals history (min. 5 starts) and was the 3rd best in&nbsp;any&nbsp;month, trailing only&nbsp;Zack Greinke’s&nbsp;0.50 ERA (2 ER in 36.0 IP) in April 2009 and Greinke’s 0.55 ERA (2 ER in 33.0 IP) in September 2009, his&nbsp;Cy Young&nbsp;Award-winning season. The only runs Bubic allowed in the entire month came on a solo home run by Houston’s&nbsp;Jeremy Peña&nbsp;on May 13 and an RBI single by&nbsp;Ty France&nbsp;on May 25 in Minnesota. He limited opponents to a .182 average (20-for-110), which was the 5th-lowest mark in the AL, behind only&nbsp;Tarik Skubal&nbsp;(.157),&nbsp;Joe Ryan&nbsp;(.160),&nbsp;Nathan Eovaldi&nbsp;(.168) and&nbsp;Carlos Rodón&nbsp;(.177). Bubic was even better with runners in scoring position, as opponents batted just .095 (2-for-21) in scoring situations, a mark that ranked 3rd in the AL (min. 20 BF). He went 3-0 over his 5 starts and was one of only seven American League pitchers to record at least 3 wins and no losses last month. The left hander recorded 7.0 scoreless innings in 2 starts, on May 8 vs. the White Sox and May 19 at San Francisco, and his 3 starts of 7.0 scoreless innings this season are tied for the most in the Majors. This marks Bubic’s third career monthly honor and second straight to open the season, after earning the award for March/April, when he posted a 2.25 ERA (9 ER in 36.0 IP) with 37 strikeouts.

The awards are determined by a local media vote.This marks the first career monthly honor for Garcia, who slashed .349/.412/.528 (37-for-106) in the month of May with 15 RBI, including 7 go-ahead RBI which tied for the 3rd-most in the Majors behind only Boston’s&nbsp;Rafael Devers&nbsp;(9) and Pittsburgh’s&nbsp;Bryan Reynolds&nbsp;(8). Additionally, his 37 hits last month tied for the 3rd most in the American League, just 2 behind leaders&nbsp;José Ramírez&nbsp;and&nbsp;Jacob Wilson&nbsp;(39 each). His 37 hits matched&nbsp;Vinnie Pasquantino&nbsp;for the team lead, and were the most by a Royal in the month of May since&nbsp;Jon Jay&nbsp;had 43 hits in May 2018. Garcia also ranked among AL leaders last month in triples (T-3rd, 2), batting average (8th) and OPS (12th, .940), and he recorded multiple hits in 12 of his 28 games, which tied for the 5th most such games in the Majors, behind Wilson (14),&nbsp;Freddie Freeman&nbsp;(14),&nbsp;Trea Turner&nbsp;(13) and Ramírez (13). Garcia put together a 14-game hit streak from May 14-30, which matched the 2nd-longest run of his career, trailing an 18-game hit streak done in 2023. Over the course of his streak, Garcia slashed .407/.450/.574 (22-for-54) and raised his season batting average 31 points, from .289 to .320 by the end of play on May 30.Bubic leads the Majors with a 1.43 ERA (12 ER in 75.1 IP) this season, thanks in large part to his dominant month of May in which he allowed just 2 runs in 32.1 innings pitched, good for an American League-leading 0.56 ERA. It was also the best ERA in the month of May in Royals history (min. 5 starts) and was the 3rd best in&nbsp;any&nbsp;month, trailing only&nbsp;Zack Greinke’s&nbsp;0.50 ERA (2 ER in 36.0 IP) in April 2009 and Greinke’s 0.55 ERA (2 ER in 33.0 IP) in September 2009, his&nbsp;Cy Young&nbsp;Award-winning season. The only runs Bubic allowed in the entire month came on a solo home run by Houston’s&nbsp;Jeremy Peña&nbsp;on May 13 and an RBI single by&nbsp;Ty France&nbsp;on May 25 in Minnesota. He limited opponents to a .182 average (20-for-110), which was the 5th-lowest mark in the AL, behind only&nbsp;Tarik Skubal&nbsp;(.157),&nbsp;Joe Ryan&nbsp;(.160),&nbsp;Nathan Eovaldi&nbsp;(.168) and&nbsp;Carlos Rodón&nbsp;(.177). Bubic was even better with runners in scoring position, as opponents batted just .095 (2-for-21) in scoring situations, a mark that ranked 3rd in the AL (min. 20 BF). He went 3-0 over his 5 starts and was one of only seven American League pitchers to record at least 3 wins and no losses last month. The left hander recorded 7.0 scoreless innings in 2 starts, on May 8 vs. the White Sox and May 19 at San Francisco, and his 3 starts of 7.0 scoreless innings this season are tied for the most in the Majors. This marks Bubic’s third career monthly honor and second straight to open the season, after earning the award for March/April, when he posted a 2.25 ERA (9 ER in 36.0 IP) with 37 strikeouts.

<div class="sidearm-story-template-text">LAWRENCE, Kan. &ndash;&nbsp;Kansas Athletics achieved a new academic milestone during the Spring 2025 semester, as student-athletes combined for a department-record 3.50 GPA. The mark surpasses the previous record of 3.45, set just in the fall of 2024. A total of 431 student-athletes earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, accounting for 85 percent of all student-athletes. Of those, 124 earned a perfect 4.0 GPA, while another 307 posted term GPAs between 3.00 and 3.99. This is the sixth straight semester Kansas student-athletes have either tied or broken the department record. "We are frankly running out of ways to describe the awe-inspiring performance of our student-athletes in the classroom," Director of Athletics&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/staff-directory/travis-goff/166" rel="smarttag" rev="166">Travis Goff</a></dfn>&nbsp;said. "Each semester, our group finds new ways to elevate the standard as the landscape around them continues to change at a rapid pace. Their commitment to academic success has never wavered, but in fact strengthened during a transformational time in college athletics." Twelve programs earned a team GPA of 3.40 or higher. Six teams set new program records, led by swimming and diving with a 3.85 GPA, the highest of any program this semester. Volleyball followed closely with a 3.79, while women's basketball set a new program high with a 3.77. Men's Golf posted a 3.74 for its best-ever mark, and football continued its academic rise by setting a new program record with a 3.46. Women's Track and Field rounded out the record-breaking list with a 3.55. Softball also had a strong showing, tying its program record with a 3.48 GPA. Several other teams turned in standout academic semesters, including soccer with a 3.64 GPA and women's golf with a 3.70. Rowing and tennis each recorded a 3.53, while baseball finished with a 3.42 and men's track and field earned a 3.25. Men's basketball posted a strong semester as well with a 3.12 GPA. For a record seventh-straight semester, all teams reached a 3.0 or higher term GPA.&nbsp;</div></div>

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs stormed back with a seven-run eighth inning to defeat the Derby Twins 8-5 on Monday night at Hobart-Detter Field, remaining unbeaten on the young season.

Trailing 5-2 entering the bottom of the eighth, Hutchinson (3-0) strung together five hits after Alex Mustow hammered a two-run shot into the dark of the night to center.&nbsp; That cut the gap to 5-3 Derby, but the Monarchs were not done. Hutchinson plated more capped by a two-run single from Blake Bradford, to flip the game on its head and hand Derby (1-2) a stinging loss.

Aiden Sowers earned the win in relief for the Monarchs, while Mitchell Johnson closed the door in the ninth for the save. Ryan Koob was tagged with the loss after surrendering the go-ahead runs in the eighth.

As previously noted, Alex Mustow sparked the comeback with his second home run of the night, a two-run shot to center that trimmed Derby’s lead to 5-3. Moments later, Jaxon Herrmann and Jace Spafford delivered clutch RBI singles to tie the game and then push Hutchinson ahead.

After an RBI triple by Dane Bugner and Bradford’s two-run knock, the Monarchs led 8-5, erasing what had been a frustrating night against the Twins’ pitching.

Derby built a 5-1 lead behind timely hitting and three runs off wild pitches, including one that scored Kyle Sheldon in the eighth. The Twins also got an RBI triple from Jake Lindahl and run-scoring singles from Cooper Richards and Nick Allison.

Mustow opened the scoring with a solo homer in the second inning but was even bigger in the eighth, igniting the crowd and his teammates with his second long ball of the night.

Hutchinson goes on the road as the same two teams match up at Panther field in Derby Tuesday, night. Derby looks to regroup in the series finale. That game should be available to view on the Derby YouTube Channel.

The Monarchs will return home on Thursday to host the Kansas Canons at 7pm&nbsp; on ONEOK night at the ball park.

Hutchinson Community College freshman softball center fielder&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/kruger_kaibryn_wwcp">Kaibryn Kruger</a>&nbsp;was a second-team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Monday.
The freshman from Silver Lake was one of the leaders of the 2025 Blue Dragon Softball team that went 37-11 this past season and won its second Jayhawk Conference championship in the past three seasons.
Last week, Kruger was named to the NFCA All-West Region team. She was also named to the second team of the 2025 All-Jayhawk Conference teams earlier this season.
Kruger becomes the fifth Blue Dragon to earn NFCA All-America honors. Joining Jaeleigh Darnell (Outfield) and Dakota Lake (Pitcher) from last season, this is the first time in program history that Blue Dragon Softball has had NFCA All-Americans in consecutive seasons.
The freshman from Silver Lake was second on the team in batting this season with a .456 average. Kruger was 73 for 160 with 13 doubles, six triples and seven home runs. She drove in 51 runs and scored 76, which is third-most in Blue Dragon single-season history.
Kruger's .456 batting average was eighth-best in Blue Dragon single-season history. Her 73 hits were ninth most on the Blue Dragon single-season hits list.
Kruger was 40 of 42 in stolen-base attempts this season, which is No. 3 on the Blue Dragon single-season list.
Kruger matched&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/backhaus_bailey_44zk">Bailey Backhaus</a>&nbsp;for the longest hitting streak this season at 16 and she will carry a 43-game streak of reach base into next season.
Kruger had 24 multi-hit games, including a season-high four hits against Seward County on March 12.
Kruger had two games with four steals &ndash; Fort Hays Tech Northwest on March on and Labette on March 9 &ndash; to establish a new Blue Dragon single-game record for steals.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals are calling up top prospect Jac Caglianone, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press, and the slugging first baseman and outfielder could make his debut Tuesday night in St. Louis.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Monday because the move had not been announced. The Royals will have to make a corresponding roster move once Caglianone is officially added to the 40-man roster.

The move comes on the heels of a second straight 1-0 game for Kansas City — it split them with the Tigers — and amid a season in which the Royals have struggled mightily to score runs. They have hit a big league worst-34 home runs and they have scored 194 runs in all, tied with Pittsburgh ahead of only lowly Colorado heading into Monday night’s games.

The 22-year-old Caglianone was the sixth overall pick in last year’s first-year player draft, where he was considered a two-way player because of his strong left arm. But his future is in the field, where his immense power had the potential to give the long-floundering Kansas City offense the kind of immediate production they have not had in years.

In just 50 games between Double-A and Triple-A this season, Caglianone has hit 15 homers with 56 RBIs. He also has been hitting .322, holding that average steady even after moving up a level, to alleviate some of his swing-and-miss concerns.

Caglianone has primarily played first base, but Vinnie Pasquantino typically holds down that job for Kansas City, and veteran catcher Salvador Perez plays there occasionally when not behind the plate. Where the Royals have a pressing needs is in their outfield, where they finally designated for assignment Hunter Renfroe after another season of little production.

As a whole, Kansas City outfielders are hitting .237 with seven homers and 46 RBIs in 663 plate appearances.

The Royals are still 31-29 heading into Monday’s day off thanks to a pitching staff that has allowed just 201 runs, second-fewest in the majors behind the Mets. They open a three-game set in St. Louis on Tuesday night, then play three against the White Sox in Chicago, before Caglianone would potentially make his home debut against the Yankees on June 10.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Zach McKinstry hit a leadoff triple in the third inning and scored on Kris Bubic's wild pitch to lift the Detroit Tigers over the Kansas City Royals 1-0 on Sunday.

Riley Greene had two of Detroit's five hits as the Tigers bounced back from a 1-0 loss to Kansas City on Saturday that ended their five-game winning streak. They took two of three from their AL Central rivals for their 14th series win this season.

Detroit entered June with the best record in the majors for the first time since 2006.

Tigers starter Keider Montero permitted seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. Chase Lee (2-0) got four outs for the win, and Will Vest earned his ninth save.

Bubic (5-3) tied a career high with nine strikeouts in seven innings, giving up four hits with two walks. The left-hander has fanned nine batters in three of his last four starts.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. —&nbsp;AJ Mustow drove in three runs and Tyson Vassart launched a two-run homer as the Hutchinson Monarchs rolled past the Newton Rebels 13-2 on Saturday night at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Monarchs (2-0) tallied 13 runs on 11 hits, taking control early and never letting up in their season opener.

Mustow led the offensive charge, going 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs. He opened his night with an RBI triple to center field in the first inning that gave Hutchinson a 2-1 lead. Later, he scored on a wild pitch in a five-run second inning.

Vassart capped that frame with a towering home run to right, plating two and extending the Monarchs’ lead to 5-1.

The scoring started when Bryce Bradford’s sacrifice fly allowed Jay Spafford to tag up and score, tying the game at 1 in the bottom of the first. From there, the Monarchs piled on with disciplined at-bats and timely hitting.

Newton (0-2) managed just two runs and couldn’t recover after falling behind early.

⚾ KU bows out of Fayetteville Regional

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) —&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/KStateBSB/status/1928901983743660465" target="_blank">Keegan O’Connor had a record-breaking three-run homer</a>, Lincoln Sheffield threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings and Kansas State beat Houston Christian 7-4 on Saturday in the Austin Regional.

Kansas State (32-25) advances to Sunday’s elimination game against the loser of Saturday’s nightcap between Texas and UTSA.

Houston Christian (32-25), in its first season under head coach Clay Vanderlaan, finished with a 14-game improvement from last year for its second trip to the regionals.

O’Connor became Kansas State’s single-season home run leader with his 17th blast for a 5-0 lead in the third inning. The previous record of 16 was set in 1997 by Scott Poepard and Heath Schesser. O’Connor’s homer put him at 59 RBIs.

Kansas State’s shutout bid ended in the eighth on Rhett Hendricks’ two-run single up the middle. The Wildcats answered with two runs on a passed ball and sacrifice fly in the bottom half for a 7-2 lead.

Jeremy Rader blasted a two-run homer in the ninth to get within three runs before KSU closed it out.

Sheffield (7-4) struck out six and allowed only four hits.

Joshua Caravalho (9-4) went 3 2/3 innings and allowed six hits and five runs, four earned, while walking one.

The previous record of 16 was set in 1997 by Scott Poepard and Heath Schesser. O’Connor’s homer put him at 59 RBIs.Kansas State’s shutout bid ended in the eighth on Rhett Hendricks’ two-run single up the middle. The Wildcats answered with two runs on a passed ball and sacrifice fly in the bottom half for a 7-2 lead.Jeremy Rader blasted a two-run homer in the ninth to get within three runs before KSU closed it out.Sheffield (7-4) struck out six and allowed only four hits.Joshua Caravalho (9-4) went 3 2/3 innings and allowed six hits and five runs, four earned, while walking one.

WICHITA, Kan. — Area athletes from across south-central Kansas capped off standout seasons at the KSHSAA State Track &amp; Field Championships, held Friday and Saturday at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium. Multiple local schools earned gold medals, shattered personal bests, and climbed the podium in a meet that featured nearly 3,000 competitors across all classes.

Hesston’s Ashley Lehman continued to dominate as one of the state’s premier sprinters and jumpers in Class 3A. Lehman captured state titles in the 100 meters (11.75), 200 meters (24.56), and 400 meters (55.58), and also added a championship in the pole vault with a clearance of 12 feet, 1 inch. The Hesston girls 4x800 relay also brought home third in 10:00.05.

In Class 2A, Inman’s girls capped a stellar postseason with a state title in the 4x100 relay (50.36) and a silver medal in the 4x400 relay (4:07.63). Brooklyn Black placed third in the 300 hurdles (47.52), and Faith Baxter placed fourth in the wheelchair 100-meter dash.

Sterling’s Julia Kilgore completed a sweep in Class 2A sprints, winning the 400 in 57.12 and placing fourth in the 200 (25.24). Moundridge continued its relay dominance with a 4x400 gold (4:05.61) and silver in the 4x100 (50.72). Cammi Unruh (4th, 12.79) and Avery Schrag (10th, 400) added more top-10s.

Central Christian’s Jessa Losew was runner-up in the Class 1A 400 (59.17) and third in the triple jump (36-10). Teammate Belle Barnett placed ninth in the 100. Little River's Havana Olander earned the 1A triple jump crown at 37-9 1/4.

Buhler medaled in the Class 4A girls 4x100 (3rd, 49.08), with standout performances from Jenna Lackey, who finished fourth in the 200 (26.03) and third in the pole vault (10-0). Isabella Friesen took sixth in the 3200 (11:46.50), and Laney Reiff placed fifth in the 800 (2:23.05).

McPherson’s Lexi Patterson clocked 11:43.48 for fourth in the 4A 3200, while Arihanna Koehn took fifth in the 100 hurdles (15.62) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (47.29).

Pretty Prairie’s Lauren Detter finished third in the 1A 800 (2:25.24).

McPherson’s Caleb Muehler had a dominant showing in Class 4A distance events, winning the 3200 meters with a state-best 9:24.70 and placing sixth in the 800 (1:59.69) and seventh in the 1600 (4:37.55). Teammate Ethan Elder was also top-10 in both races.

Buhler’s Gavin Lindahl placed second in the 1600 (4:28.60) and third in the 3200 (10:00.79), while Zach Friesen claimed silver in the 110 hurdles (14.89). Buhler's boys 4x100 relay finished fourth (43.32).

In Class 3A, Hesston’s Casey Heinrichs ran 1:58.00 to place third in the 800, and Jamison Kohl earned seventh in the 300 hurdles. The Swathers’ pole vaulters and throwers also earned points.

Halstead’s Breeson Bigley was sixth in the 400 (50.34), and the Dragons 4x400 team earned a top-10 finish.

Little River’s Kal-El Robinson placed fifth in the 1A 100 (11.35), while Jay Smith swept the boys wheelchair 100 (20.07) and 400 (1:37.82). Christopher Norez added a sixth-place javelin finish (165-9).

Inman’s Riley Roots was runner-up in the 2A 3200 (10:09.64), and Tyler Martisko placed eighth in the 800 (2:05.41). The Teutons were sixth in the 4x800 and claimed fifth in javelin behind Malachi Brunk (171-1).

Trinity Catholic took gold in the 2A 4x800 relay (8:24.11), and Isaac Hammersmith placed third in the high jump (6-6) and long jump (22-0.5). Kaid McElgunn took bronze in the 100 (11.16).

Moundridge’s Heath Churchill cleared 6-6 for silver in the 2A high jump and placed second in the 300 hurdles (39.89). Teammate Kaden Elmore won the 400 in 49.33 and placed second in the 100 (10.97).

Fairfield’s Brodie Snodgrass jumped 21-1 to finish ninth in the 1A boys long jump.

Sterling’s Zane Farney medaled in both hurdle events, placing fourth in the 110s (15.70) and third in the 300s (40.11).
