HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Cooper Harris dominated on the mound Sunday, striking out 10 batters over seven scoreless innings to lead the Hutchinson Monarchs to a 10-0 victory over the Newton Rebels at Emerson Loop East.

Harris allowed just five hits and walked one while keeping the Rebels off the scoreboard in a commanding performance. The Monarchs backed their starter with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to secure the shutout win.

Hutchinson wasted little time taking control. Michael Barham delivered a two-run single in the first inning to give the Monarchs an early 2-0 advantage.

The Monarchs added two more runs in the second. Brady Taylor singled to left field to drive in a run before Jackson Schanuel lined an RBI double down the left-field line, extending the lead to 4-0.

Schanuel paced the Hutchinson offense with three hits in five at-bats. He singled in the first inning, doubled in the second and blasted a solo home run to left field in the seventh.

The Monarchs added two runs in the seventh inning to push the lead to 6-0. Schanuel's homer accounted for one run, while a Newton error allowed another run to score. Hutchinson continued to add insurance runs late to complete the 10-run victory.

Hutchinson finished with 10 hits. James Dagenhart collected two hits and stole three bases, helping fuel a Monarchs attack that swiped six bases overall. The Monarchs also showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks. Nash Wray and Drew Bugner each worked two free passes.

Dalton Sabathe anchored a flawless defensive effort, handling a team-high 13 chances as Hutchinson committed no errors.

Samuel Benz took the loss for Newton, allowing four runs on seven hits over three innings while striking out one and walking one.

Julian Lyons worked one scoreless inning of relief for Hutchinson, allowing one hit while striking out two.

Jaylon Humbles led the Rebels offensively with two hits from the leadoff spot. Newton turned one double play.

The victory sends the Monarchs into a quick turnaround as they travel to Newton on Monday for a rematch with the Rebels. That game will be video streamed on the Newton Rebel YouTube Channel.
