OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Former Hutchinson Broncs player Barry Bonds is among 21 standouts selected for induction into the College Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class.
The College Baseball Foundation announced the class, which includes 16 former players, two coaches, two umpires and one contributor. The class will be formally inducted during the 2027 Night of Champions, scheduled for Feb. 11, 2027, in Overland Park, home of the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
Bonds, one of the most recognizable names in baseball history, played collegiately at Arizona State from 1983-85 before going on to a long Major League Baseball career. He also spent time with the Hutchinson Broncs, adding a local connection to this year’s Hall of Fame class.
Bonds is part of a player group that also includes former Florida State standout Buster Posey, the 2008 Dick Howser Trophy, Brooks Wallace Award and Golden Spikes Award winner. Other former Major League Baseball players selected include Jeff Brantley of Mississippi State, Marquis Grissom of Florida A&M and Dave Stegman of Arizona.
“On behalf of the College Baseball Foundation Board of Trustees, we are honored to welcome these 21 extraordinary individuals into the College Baseball Hall of Fame,” CBF Board of Trustees Chairman Craig Ramsey said. “The Class of 2026 represents excellence across every level of our game — from legendary players and championship coaches to dedicated umpires and lifelong contributors whose impact extends far beyond the field.”
Other player selections include Earl Bass of South Carolina, Dave Clark of Jackson State, Bruce Gardner of Southern California, Bobby Jones of Fresno State, Bobby Layne of Texas, Scott Livingstone of Texas A&M, David McCarty of Stanford, Lloyd Peever of Seminole State College and LSU, Mike Smith of Indiana, Huston Street of Texas and Brent Strom of Southern California.
Danny Hall, who coached at Kent State and Georgia Tech, and Hal Smeltzly of Florida Southern were selected as coaches. Jim Darby was selected as a contributor, while Gus Rodriguez and Tony Walsh were selected as umpires.
Bass, Gardner, Layne, McCarty and Smeltzly will be honored posthumously.
The 2026 class is the 19th induction class for the College Baseball Hall of Fame, which inducted its first class in 2006. Since then, 196 players, coaches, umpires, administrators and contributors have been selected for induction.
