KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Brady Singer pitched six dominant innings and the Kansas City Royals ended the Dodgers' 12-game winning streak, blanking Los Angeles 4-0 Sunday.

A day after hitting six home runs in a romp, the Dodgers were held to just two hits.

The Dodgers were trying to match their longest winning streak since moving to Los Angeles, having won 13 straight in both 1962 and 1965. The franchise record is 15 in a row set in 1924 while the team played in Brooklyn — the club moved to West Coast for the 1958 season.

“I mean, we knew we weren’t going to win every game,” star first baseman Freddie Freeman said.

“We don’t like getting shut out as an offense, just plain and simple. We still won the series, so you have to look at it like that sometimes," he said.

Singer (6-4) pitched one-hit ball against the team with the best record in the majors. He struck out seven and walked three.

“Singer thrives on these opportunities and we do need that stopper to step up and so something special,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said. “I don’t think you can imagine that Brady was going to execute the way he did today. It was a thing of beauty and couldn’t have been at a better time.”

The 26-year old right-hander felt all his pitches were working.

"It was a good outing, I think I stayed on the attack all day and all three pitches had good life,” Singer said. “The fastball had good life, the changeups that I threw really helped me throughout the whole entire time.”

Royals relievers Amir Garrett and Dylan Coleman kept the Dodgers scoreless and Scott Barlow got four outs for his 19th save.

Vinnie Pasquantino homered among his three hits and drove in two runs. He connected in the eighth inning for his fourth home run and seventh RBI of an 11-game homestand.

“It is just constant adjustments,” Pasquantino said. “I’m not going to say anything clicked this week, but it is one of those things where you just keep going, pushing forward and it worked out today.”

Tyler Anderson (12-2) gave up three runs in six innings.

Chris Taylor singled in the Dodgers fifth and Mookie Betts doubled in the eighth. It was the fewest hits for Los Angeles since April 19 and the first time being shut out since June 27.

Los Angeles will continue its Midwest stretch with a three-game set with Milwaukee. LHP Julio Urías (12-6, 2.49 ERA) will open the series for the Dodgers.

LHP Kris Bubic (2-6, 5.02 ERA) is slated to take the mound for Kansas City against Minnesota to begin a seven-game road trip.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Max Muncy had a homer and four RBIs, Mookie Betts hit his team-leading 26th home run and the Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to 12 games with a 13-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.

Muncy went 4 for 5, including his 14th homer of the season, a two-run shot to right field in the fourth inning. Betts led off the game with a homer as part of a five-run first inning.

“I think (Muncy) is just taking better at-bats and I don’t think he is trying to hit every ball out of the ballpark,” Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts said. “That is what got him to be Max Muncy, and he's hitting the ball hard, driving in runs, taking walks and tonight was a four-hit night so it was a good night for him.”

Andrew Heaney allowed two runs with five strikeouts in three innings. Dodgers relievers Caleb Ferguson, Chris Martin, Phil Bickford (2-1) and Reyes Moronta held Kansas City to a run.

The Dodgers' 12-game win streak is the third-longest in the majors this season. It is the first time since 1976 that Los Angeles has run off a dozen straight.

A season-high six Dodgers homered, including Joey Gallo, Cody Bellinger, Will Smith and Gavin Lux. Smith hit a two-run homer in the second and has hit safely in 10 of the last 11 games.

“We got ahead early and really made it tough on their starter and got to the bullpen,” Smith said. “It is always nice to jump ahead and tack on a few more the next couple of innings and make it really hard for them to come back.”

Brad Keller (6-13) gave up a career-high tying eight runs in three innings, with three strikeouts and three walks. It was the third time in Keller’s career he allowed three home runs in an outing.

“You could tell when the first fastball came out of his hand, when it pulled to the left, but he never really got a good feel for it,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said. “When he did, he caught the fastball over the plate and these guys will make you pay for it.”

Michael Massey hit a two-run triple in the second and Brent Rooker hit an RBI double in the sixth in his first action with the Royals.

The Royals and Dodgers donned special uniforms in Kansas City’s 28th annual Salute to the Negro Leagues game. Kansas City Monarchs legend Buck O’Neil was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame this summer. Los Angeles is also celebrating the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s major league debut this season. Robinson was a member of the Monarchs in 1945.

Dodgers: Heaney (left arm contusion) was hit on a 106 mph comebacker by Bobby Witt Jr. in the third. He finished the inning before he was removed in the fourth.

Sports Headlines for Sunday

CHICAGO (AP) — Patrick Mahomes sure looked like he was ready to go. The one-time MVP, Super Bowl champion and four-time Pro Bowler made it look easy in his short time on the field.

“We did what we were supposed to do,” Mahomes said. “We went out there, we were able to spread the football around, get a lot of different guys involved and found a way to get in the end zone.”

The game was the first for Chicago's Matt Eberflus as a head coach. It also marked the return to Soldier Field for predecessor Matt Nagy, now the Chiefs' quarterbacks coach. He was fired in January after leading the Bears to a 34-31 record in four seasons, then reunited with Andy Reid after previously working for him in Philadelphia and Kansas City.

Sports Headlines for Friday

Thursday marked the final Chiefs training camp practice before the first preseason game at Chicago this Saturday.

Thursday was the 13th camp practice, lasting for just over two hours, as the team practiced in full pads on a warm, but not unbearable morning.

Head coach Andy Reid confirmed that each quarterback will play one quarter. So, it's safe to assume most of the starters won't play much, if at all, after the first quarter.

Reid says preseason serves several purposes - mainly getting the starters reacclimated and letting newer players prove their worth.

"There's a balance there with letting the ones (starters) get a little bit of work," Reid said. "The guys that are going to play in the game, and still have the competition at certain positions, and most of all, get the young guys a look."

Patrick Mahomes has gone through an NFL preseason five times already. He says that first hit you take from an opponent usually gets you in the right mindset.

"I like to get hit like one time," Mahomes said. "Once you get hit one time, you kind of see what it's like to get hit again as a quarterback. I feel like after that, you're good to go. It'll be good to get in there with the new group of receivers we have, all of the running backs and show how we do it in the game."

It's becoming more of a possibility that Ronald Jones may not make the 53-man roster.

Jones took reps with the fourth-team offense Thursday, with Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Jerick McKinnon and Isiah Pacheco rotating in on first-team.

Jones, a fifth-year pro signed in free agency by the Chiefs in March, had over 2,800 all-purpose yards and 19 total touchdowns in four seasons at Tampa Bay. So, it's a little hard to believe he'll be on the outside looking in.

As for Pacheco, a rookie and seventh-round draft pick out of Rutgers, Mahomes, when asked about Pacheco specifically, says he's impressed with what Pacheco has brought to the table.

"(Pacheco) has all of the physical tools," Mahomes said. "He's been mentally great at practice. So, it'll be exciting to see him in the game where you get to go out there and make stuff happen."

Justin Reid - not the starting kicker

While Reid is expected to make a significant impact as a starting safety this season, many have wondered about his starting kicking abilities after he drilled a 65-yard field goal at the end of Sunday's practice.

He then shanked one bad from about 52 yards out on Tuesday. Reid, mostly jokingly clarified, that Harrison Butker is still the go-to place kicker.

"I know there's a lot of chatter or whatever about kicker one," Reid said. "Harrison is obviously kicker one, guys. Put that to bed right now. But, if he ever wants a play off, and wants to take a break, I got his back."

Receivers Jody Forston and Daurice Fountain, along with defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth, were all back to work Thursday. Forston had been out since July 30.

Receiver Omar Bayless left practice early with a lower back issue. Frank Clark was absent Thursday due to illness. Zayne Anderson (shoulder), Lucas Niang (knee) and Gary Jennings (concussion) also didn't practice.

The Chiefs will be back in St. Joseph for practice Monday with camp wrapping up next Thursday.

NJCAA and ESPN Strike Multi-Year Agreement

DYERSVILLE, Iowa — When Frank Thomas and his partners purchased the “Field of Dreams” movie site a year ago, they outlined a wide range of plans for the rural Iowa tourist attraction.

They hoped to turn it into a youth baseball and softball complex that one day would also have&nbsp;a hotel.

But one thing it won't include next year: a&nbsp;Major League Baseball game.

Thomas said MLB won’t be back in 2023 for another regular season game at the specially constructed stadium near the iconic diamond from the 1989 film, though it remains possible that games will return in&nbsp;future&nbsp;years.

Construction on the youth complex that Thomas' company is building begins later this year and&nbsp;will prevent MLB from making a return for a third straight season.

“It’s a lot going on,” Thomas told the Des Moines Register on Wednesday in Dyersville. “They don’t want to come back if the stadium’s not prepared.”

Future MLB games at the site could be a key to its profitability.&nbsp;A feasibility study funded by Travel Dubuque projected the site would&nbsp;draw 136,000 visitors a year, create 81 jobs, host 62 events&nbsp;and generate&nbsp;$9.1 million in investment in the first year after the stadium is built.

However, the study projects that about two-thirds of the stadium's economic impact would&nbsp;come from an annual MLB Field of Dreams game, and the league has not guaranteed a game beyond Thursday, when the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs will play.
