FRISCO, Texas—Brooks Lee and Patrick Winkle each had a pair of RBI and the Wichita Wind Surge defeated the Frisco RoughRiders 5-4 in the tenth inning to win the series opener.

The Surge snapped a season long four game losing streak and improve to 11-17 on the season.

In the tenth inning the designated runner Will Holland advanced to third on a fly-out to centerfield. Lee hit a slow roller to the right side of the infield to allow Holland to score and Wichita scored the winning run in the tenth without the benefit of a hit.

The Riders had a runner on third base with two outs in the bottom of the tenth and when the pitch got away from catcher, Winkle scrambled to get the loose ball and tossed it to pitcher Jordan Brink at the plate to get the bizarre final out of the game.

Brink earned the win in relief and Marc Church took the loss.

NOTES - Yoyner Fajardo eleven game hitting streak ended with no hits in his five at bats. The Surge improved to 5-1 in series openers.

For the second-straight season, the Hutchinson Community College baseball team opens its postseason march in Fort Scott.

The 11th-seeded Blue Dragons (30-26) play the sixth-seeded Greyhounds (35-21) in the opening game of the best-of-3 Region VI Tournament Opening-Round series.

Game 1 of the series at Lions Field in Fort Scott is Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Game will 2 on Thursday and Game 3, if necessary, on Friday. All games are scheduled for 1 p.m. All games will be streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network.

Hutchinson enters the Region VI Tournament winning three games in a row after losing the series opener against Colby in extra innings last Thursday. The Dragons rallied from four runs down to defeat Colby 8-7 in the final game of the regular season on Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Blue Dragons finished tied for fifth in the Jayhawk Conference with an 18-14 record. The Dragons were one of six teams in the Jayhawk West with winning records within league play.

The Dragons bring a .298 team batting average into the series with Fort Scott. Averaging 7.37 runs per game. The Dragons hit 62 home runs this season, fifth-most in the KJCCC, but fourth most in the Jayhawk West.

Hutchinson has a team ERA of 6.09 and allows 6.29 runs per game.

Fort Scott is the top home-run hitting team in the league with 127 and owns the top-two home runners in the KJCCC this season. Sophomore Brody Szako has 25 home runs and Jaret Nelson has 21 homers.

⚾ Blue Dragons to open postseason at Fort Scott

KANSAS CITY, Mo, (AP) — Andrew Vaughn’s two-run homer in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Chicago White Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Lucas Giolito picked up the win in a game that started two hours late because of rain. He allowed two runs on five hits over six innings. Kendall Graveman worked the ninth for his first save. Jordan Lyles threw a complete game, the first by a Royals pitcher in more than two years, allowing four runs on six hits with no walks. Lyles fell to 0-6 on the season.

CHICAGO (AP) — Paul DeJong, Nolan Gorman and Lars Nootbaar homered, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 6-4 for their third consecutive win. DeJong put St. Louis in front when he opened the ninth inning with a drive to left-center off Javier Assad for his third homer this season. Dylan Carlson then tripled and scored on Andrew Knizner’s bloop double into shallow right field. Chris Stratton got four outs for the win, and Giovanny Gallegos worked the ninth for his second save. The Cardinals had dropped eight in a row and 15 of 18 overall before their win streak.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jurickson Profar had his first multihomer game in four years, Connor Seabold got his first major league win and the Colorado Rockies routed Pittsburgh 10-1 Tuesday night, sending the Pirates to their eighth loss in nine games. Profar hit a go-ahead solo homer on a slider from Luis Ortiz (0-1) in the second and followed Ryan McMahon’s two-run triple with a two-run drive off Duane Underwood Jr. that capped a five-run seventh and built a nine-run lead. Profar had his third career multihomer game and first since July 17, 2019, for Oakland against Seattle.

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Automatic balls and strikes could soon be coming to the major leagues. Much like the players themselves, the robo-umps are working their way up through the minors with the goal being promoted to the show. The goal is to eliminate the individual and sometimes inconsistent strike zones that vary from umpire to umpire, and with it the possibility that a game can turn on a bad ball/strike call. Disappearing with that are the complaints that an umpire’s strike zone was too wide or a pitcher was getting squeezed, followed by the helmet-slamming, dirt-kicking dustups that are practically as old as the sport itself.

DENVER (AP) — Nikola Jokic had a triple-double after making up with Suns owner Mat Ishbia and Michael Porter Jr. sank five 3-pointers to help the Denver Nuggets beat Phoenix 118-102 on Tuesday night for a 3-2 series lead. Joker had 29 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists for his 10th career playoff triple-double, breaking a tie with Wilt Chamberlain for most by a center in NBA history. Game 6 is Thursday night in Phoenix. The home team has won every game in the series. If that holds true again, the decisive winner-take-all clash will come Sunday back in Denver, where the top-seeded Nuggets own the NBA’s best home record at 39-7, including 5-0 in the playoffs.

BOSTON (AP) — Joel Embiid scored 33 points and the Philadelphia 76ers easily took a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals, beating the Boston Celtics 115-103. It was the third straight game 30-point game of the series for Embiid, who also had seven rebounds and four blocks. Philadelphia will have chance to close out the series and advance to the conference finals when they host Game 6 on Thursday. Tyrese Maxey added 30 points and six 3s. James Harden finished with 17 points and 10 assists and eight rebounds. The 76ers led by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter. Jayson Tatum led Boston with 36 points but was just 11 of 27 from the field. Jaylen Brown finished with 24 points.

SEATTLE (AP) — Joe Pavelski scored his sixth goal of the series as part of a four-goal second period for Dallas, and the Stars routed the Seattle Kraken 6-3 on Tuesday night in Game 4 to even the Western Conference semifinal series. After a pair of tight games in Dallas to open the series, Games 3 and 4 in Seattle were blowouts. The Kraken rolled to a 7-2 win in Game 3 and the Stars responded with their best performance of the series in a dominant Game 4 victory. Game 5 is Thursday night in Dallas. Pavelski scored four goals in the series opener, added a fifth in Game 2 and gave the Stars a 4-0 lead midway through the second period of Game 4.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Jordan Martinook had a goal and two assists and the Carolina Hurricanes scored five times in the second period to beat the New Jersey Devils 6-1 on Tuesday night for a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinal. Martin Necas scored twice and Brett Pesce, Jesper Fast and Brent Burns added goals as the Hurricanes routed the young Devils for the third time in four games. Frederik Andersen made 21 saves in a relatively easy game after giving up an early goal to Jack Hughes. The Hurricanes have outscored New Jersey 17-3 in their three wins. ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia’s national championship football team is declining an invitation to visit the White House. According to a statement released by the Georgia athletic association, the Bulldogs will not be able to attend a June 12 event with other college teams at the White House described by President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden as “College Athlete Day.” Georgia says it received the invitation on Wednesday. It said the date “is not feasible given the student-athlete calendar and time of year.” The statement said Georgia was appreciative of the invitation and looks forward to other opportunities to visit the White House.

DERBY, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson High School baseball team lost a heartbreaker in game one, 12-11 in eight innings on Tuesday evening. The Salthawks then held a 2-0 lead in the middle of the fourth inning of game two when play was suspended due to lightning in the area. The game needed to be four complete innings for a game to be called "final".&nbsp;

The Panthers plated seven runs in the bottom of the second of game one to take a 7-1 lead, but the Salthawks had an answer. Hutchinson responded with a five-run spot in each of the next two innings to lead 11-7. Once again, Derby had an answer in the bottom of the fifth to pull within 11-9. The Panthers scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game at 11. The game then went to extra innings.

Hutchinson failed to score in the top of the eighth, and after an error and stolen base, Derby had the game winning run at second base. The Panthers plated the run on an RBI double past a diving Jack Yoder in center field to give the Panthers the win.

The first game was delayed from 4:22 p.m. to 6:13 p.m. due to lightning and a brief rainfall that passed through Derby. The game did not end until 8:47 p.m.

Lakin Franz, Cole Bleything and Landon Parks each had two hits apiece to lead the Salthawks' nine hits. Hutchinson committed a season-high six errors in the loss.

The Salthawks took a 2-0 lead in the third inning of the second game following an error and then an RBI single to center field from Lakin Franz. Eastyn Keeler got the start in the second game and had allowed just one hit through three innings, striking out three and walking one.

The game is currently suspended, and will be up to the Athletic Director from Derby and Hutchinson to determine when/if the game is resumed. The two teams need to have all games completed by Friday before the KSHSAA has regional pairings on Saturday morning.

⚾ Salthawks drop opener in extras, game 2 suspended in Derby

KANSAS CITY, Mo, (AP) — Andrew Vaughn's two-run homer in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Chicago White Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.

Lucas Giolito (2-2) allowed two runs on five hits over six innings in a game that started two hours late because of rain.

Kendall Graveman worked the ninth for his first save. He said the delay played into his hands.

“It was a bonus for me pitching at 9 at night because I'm a night owl,” he said. “I was right at home. It was one of those nights when the stuff was a little bit better, velocity-wise.”

Jordan Lyles (0-6) threw a complete game, the first by a Royals pitcher in more than two years, allowing four runs on six hits with no walks. Brad Keller was the last Kansas City starter to go the distance, in his 11-0 shutout of Pittsburgh on Sept. 13, 2020.

“He’s incredible," Royals manager Matt Quatraro said of Lyles. "He always wants the next inning, whether he pitches five, six, seven, eight. He always wants one more.

"His stuff was good. They got to him for a couple homers. But that’s a huge thing for us to refresh the bullpen. And at the same time, he gave us a chance to win the game, too.”

Vinnie Pasquantino homered in the first and drove in both of the Royals' runs.

“I got a little angry giving up that home run in the first inning,” Giolito said. “For me, pitching angry can go one way or the other. Tonight, we were able to channel that into aggression in the strike zone.”

Once the game got started, it moved quickly. The first five innings took just 1:01 to complete. Giolito gave up one run on three hits through five while Lyles gave up a run on two hits. But both pitchers ran into trouble in the sixth.

Lenys Sosa led off the Chicago sixth with a double and with one out, Vaughn hit a sinker from Lyles 422 feet into the bullpen in left.

“I think all of Vaughn's home runs have either tied or put us ahead,” White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said. “He's been Mr. Clutch. Every time he hits one it's a big one.”

Bobby Witt Jr. led off the bottom of the inning with a triple down the right-field line. He was clocked at 11.09 seconds from the plate to third — the second-fastest triple in the majors this season behind Arizona's Corbin Carroll (10.91 seconds) on April 25, also at Kansas City. Witt scored on a bloop hit Pasquantino.

Giolito then walked two of the next three batters, loading the bases with one out. But he got Hunter Dozier to pop out and Freddy Fermin to hit into a fielder's choice.

Seby Zavala had a two-out RBI single in the seventh for Chicago.

Luis Robert made it 1-1 in the fourth when he lined the first pitch from Lyles 430 feet into the bullpen in left. It was the first baserunner Lyles allowed.

Royals LHP Ryan Yarbrough, who was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday with broken bones in his face after taking a 106-mph line drive off the bat of Oakland's Ryan Noda on Sunday, was released from the hospital Monday night. Quatraro said Yarbrough had a follow-up Tuesday and will not need surgery. He'll have another follow-up in a month before he can return to more strenuous activity.

Chicago RHP Lance Lynn (1-4, 6.68 ERA) faces Kansas City’s Brad Keller (2-3, 4.67) in the third game of the four-game series.

Only a loss to North Dakota State on April 22 has denied Oral Roberts an unblemished mark in Summit League play. ORU is led by one of the nation's most dynamic players in Jonah Cox, who has recorded a hit in all but one game this season and is currently riding a 31-game hitting streak. Cox leads the country with 85 hits and ranks third nationally with seven triples. Expected starter Joshua Caravalho has limited Wichita State to just one run over 10 innings in two starts this season. The Golden Eagles have the second-best fielding percentage in the nation at .984, committing just 27 errors. Head coach Ryan Folmar is in his 11th season at the helm of the Golden Eagles, boasting a record of 355-221.

DYNAMIC DUO:&nbsp;The potent middle of the order combination of&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/brock-rodden/7450">Brock Rodden</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/garrett-pennington/7468">Garrett Pennington</a>&nbsp;continues to torture opposing pitchers. Both homered in the two-game series at Houston over the weekend, moving into a tie for third place in the American Athletic Conference with 13 home runs apiece. Rodden leads the conference with 53 RBI, while Pennington ranks second with 45. If Pennington can record five RBI over the final seven games of the season, the Shockers will have two players with 50 or more runs batted in for the first time since the 2011 season (Chris O'Brien - 70, Johnny Coy - 59, Preston Springer - 56).

MIDWEEK IMPROVEMENT:&nbsp;Wichita State has gone 5-6 in midweek games this season, notching wins against Kansas State (2x), Oklahoma (2x), and Oklahoma State, . The Shockers went just 3-10 in midweek action a year ago, and did not win a single such contest on the road.

CUTTING DOWN ON THE CHARITY:&nbsp;Shocker pitchers have had occasional issues this season hitting opposing batters, including a stretch of eight games from late March to early April in which WSU hit four batters in a game three times. Recently, however, WSU has dramatically cut down on those free passes; Wichita State hurlers have not hit a batter in the last 91 innings dating back to the game at Kansas State on April 18.

REHAB COMPLETE:&nbsp;One of the bright spots from this past weekend in Houston was the return of left-handed pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/austin-wallace/7457">Austin Wallace</a>, who made his season debut with a scoreless eighth inning on Saturday. It was the first outing for Wallace in more than 400 days after he injured his arm last spring in a game against Kansas on March 30. The southpaw struck out the first batter he faced on Saturday, then pitched around a two-out single to keep Houston off the board.

SERVING UP MCDONALD:&nbsp;Junior outfielder&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/kyte-mcdonald/7459">Kyte McDonald</a>&nbsp;returned to the lineup on Saturday after missing the last two games due to injury and picked up right where he left off, recording a base hit in his first at-bat. That knock extended his streak of consecutive at-bats reaching base to nine, the longest such streak for a Shocker since Tyler Weber set the school record by reaching base 12 straight times in 2007. McDonald was retired in his final three at-bats, but has still raised his batting average 39 points over the last nine games.

PITCHING TURNAROUND:&nbsp;Pitching coach&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/mike-pelfrey/1119">Mike Pelfrey</a>&nbsp;and interim head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/loren-hibbs/1122">Loren Hibbs</a>&nbsp;have completely revamped the Shocker arms in 2023, trimming nearly two full runs off the Wichita State era as compared to a season ago (5.97 to 4.17). The Shockers enter play on Tuesday 25th in the country in ERA thanks to a pitching staff littered with strike-throwers; WSU ranks 15th nationally in walks per nine innings (3.35) and 11th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.84:1).

⚾ Shockers host ORU in final midweek matchup

DERBY, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson Salthawks baseball team will travel to Derby Tuesday, the take on the Panthers in AVCTL action. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Salthawks are 2-14 start following splitting last Friday to Maize, while the Panthers are 11-7 on the season and come in to today's games after dropping a game to Bishop Carroll on Friday.

⚾🎙LISTEN: Salthawk Baseball travels to Derby

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Here's a look at all 15 of the Chiefs' undrafted free agent signees (plus one NFL International Player Pathway Program signee) as Kansas City prepares to host its rookie minicamp this weekend.

Cornerback Montrae Braswell (Missouri State)

An alum of nearby Missouri State, Braswell stands at 5-foot-11 and 194 pounds. A regular contributor for the Bears, Braswell tallied at least 700 defensive snaps in each of the last two years.

Braswell is also an experienced player on special teams, logging 635 snaps on special teams' during his collegiate career. In fact, Braswell handled 12 kickoff returns last season for an average of 30.3 yards, including a 98-yard touchdown early in the year. The versatile defensive back was also an effective return man in 2021, ranking sixth in the FCS in average yards-per-kickoff return (29.5 yards).

Offensive Lineman Jerome Carvin (Tennessee)

Carvin is a versatile player who possesses significant experience at all three spots along the interior of the offensive line. A five-year contributor at Tennessee, Carvin logged 21 starts at left guard, 17 starts at right guard and five starts at center during his time in Knoxville.

Additionally, the 6-foot-4, 307-pound Carvin played alongside Chiefs' right guard Trey Smith and rookie offensive tackle (and third-round pick) Wanya Morris at Tennessee during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Carvin and Smith were also teammates during the 2018 campaign prior to Morris' arrival.

The six-foot-tall, 188-pound Cook has good size for the position and logged significant experience on special teams during his time with the Longhorns, which could prove beneficial as he aims to make the Chiefs' roster. He logged a career-most 678 defensive snaps in 2022, recording five passes defensed and a forced fumble. It's also worth mentioning that he was a cornerback for his first three seasons in Austin before transitioning to safety in 2021.

Offensive Lineman Anderson Hardy (Appalachian State)

The 6-foot-6, 301-pound Hardy appeared in 44 games (with 29 starts) during his career, including a stretch of 28 consecutive starts at left tackle to close out his time at Appalachian State. He logged at least 800 snaps at left tackle in each of the last two seasons and surrendered just two sacks last year.

Offensive Lineman Blake Haynes (Tarleton State)

Haynes – who stands at 6-foot-6 and 305 pounds – was the Texans' starting right tackle in each of the last two seasons, logging more than 700 total offensive snaps in each. He was particularly effective as a run-blocker, recording the eighth-best run-blocking Pro Football Focus grade in the FCS last season.

One of the higher-profile names available on the open market, Jones was the No. 15 overall linebacker in this year's class according to The Athletic's Dane Brugler. He projected Jones to be selected in the fifth or sixth round in his pre-draft guide, writing the following:

"Overall, Jones' take-on and shed skills require further maintenance, but his instincts and short-area quicks lead him to the football, where he looks to create violent collisions as a tackler. He is a ready-made special teamer with the talent to inch his way up the linebacker depth chart."

The 6-foot-1, 226-pound linebacker racked up 208 tackles, 13.5 tackles-for-loss, 11 passes defensed, seven sacks, five forced fumbles and two interceptions in 47 career games (23 starts) from 2018-22. He also played on kick and punt return coverage in all five of his seasons.

Additionally, Brugler wrote that Jones was on his way to a career year before suffering a season-ending foot injury midway through the campaign. Prior to the injury, he was leading the Big Ten in tackles-per-game (10.8) through five contests. Brugler added that Jones remained on the sideline as an extra coach throughout the rest of the year despite the injury.

A Second-Team All-American in 2022, Jones led the Ivy League with 13 tackles-for-loss last season to go along with six sacks. He was also a menace on special teams, blocking three kicks last year alone.

"Overall, Jones needs to expand his hand usage and learn how to string moves together for the next level, but his athletic tools and energy are a nice start for a developmental guy."

Jones – a former linebacker who made the switch to defensive end as a redshirt freshman – checks in at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds.

Manuel – who stands at six-feet-tall and 217 pounds – made 35 starts over the last four seasons for the Tigers, including a stretch of 34 consecutive starts to close out his career. The Columbia, Missouri native racked up 49 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss and four sacks in 2022 while splitting snaps between the box (237 snaps) and the slot (201 snaps).

Linebacker Isaiah Moore (North Carolina State)

Another player who many expected to be drafted, Moore was the No. 17 linebacker in this year's class and a projected fifth or sixth-round pick according to The Athletic's Dane Brugler.

Moore – who stands at 6-foot-2 and 233 pounds – earned the distinction of being called a "smashmouth run defender" in Brugler's draft guide. He recorded 55 starts during his college career, earning Team Captain honors in each of the last three seasons while racking up 341 total tackles, 43.5 tackles-for-loss, 11.5 sacks and 11 passes defensed.

A six-foot-tall, 206-pound defensive back, Norman was a versatile member of the Thundering Herd's defense in 2022. He logged significant snaps inside the box (134 snaps), at slot corner (118 snaps) and at free safety (116 snaps) last season while missing just one tackle on 26 attempts.

Prior to transferring to Marshall, Norman spent the first five seasons of his career at Austin Peay State University, where he racked up 137 tackles, 13 passes defensed and two interceptions in 42 career games.

The No. 18 ranked running back in this year's class according to The Athletic's Dane Brugler, Prince was a projected fifth or sixth-round pick after a strong showing at the NFL Scouting Combine. In fact, Prince logged a 4.41-second 40-yard dash (fourth among all running backs) and a 10-foot-five-inch broad jump (fifth among all running backs).

He averaged more than five yards-per-carry in each of his three seasons as a regular contributor while his production increased every year, culminating in a team-leading 729 rushing yards in 2022.

Prince also has some size to him at six-feet-tall and 216 pounds.

Wide Receiver Nikko Remigio (Fresno State)

Remigio – who stands at 5-foot-9 and 187 pounds – was a four-year contributor (largely as a return man) at the University of California before transferring to Fresno State for the 2022 campaign. He made the most of his fifth year, too, tallying career-bests in receptions (74), receiving yards (852) and receiving touchdowns (6). Remigio was also tied for the FBS lead with two punt return touchdowns.

He was almost exclusively a slot receiver during the entirety of his college career, lining up in the slot on 84 percent of his offensive snaps last season.

Wide Receiver Tyrone Scott (Missouri State)

Another local product, Scott checks in at 6-foot-1 and 199 pounds. He spent the first three seasons of his career at Central Michigan before transferring to Missouri State in 2021, where he went on to catch 66 passes for 1,110 yards and eight touchdowns that year. Scott then hauled in 48 catches for 674 yards and five touchdowns this past season.

Primarily an outside receiver for the Bears, Scott lined up on the outside on 75 percent of his offensive snaps in 2022.

Taylor stands at 5-foot-9 and 188 pounds with large hands (10 inches). He was a rotational player at Indiana for four seasons (2019-21) before transferring to Purdue for the 2022 campaign, where he saw the field for a career-most 594 defensive snaps. Taylor was almost exclusively an outside cornerback for the Hoosiers, recording 566 of those total snaps at that spot. He recorded two pass-breakups and an interception in 2022.

Taylor also has experience as a return man, as he tallied 20 total punt and kick returns during his career.

Cornerback Anthony Witherstone (Merrimack)

The six-foot-tall, 189-pound Witherstone was primarily an outside cornerback for Merrimack and turned in strong campaigns in each of the last two seasons, surrendering a passer rating of 76.0 or lower in both. He broke up six passes and tallied two pick-sixes in 2021 before recording four passes defensed and one interception as a senior.

NFL International Player Pathway Program Signee: Offensive Lineman Chukwuebuka Jason Godrick (Nigeria)

Additionally, while not an undrafted free agent in the traditional sense, the Chiefs also added offensive lineman Chukwuebuka Jason Godrick – a 22-year-old from Nigeria – through the NFL International Player Pathway Program. The 6-foot-5, 295-pound lineman is a former basketball player who impressed at the inaugural NFL Africa camp in Ghana last year before earning an invitation to the International Combine in London.

A regular contributor for the Bears, Braswell tallied at least 700 defensive snaps in each of the last two years.Braswell is also an experienced player on special teams, logging 635 snaps on special teams' during his collegiate career. In fact, Braswell handled 12 kickoff returns last season for an average of 30.3 yards, including a 98-yard touchdown early in the year. The versatile defensive back was also an effective return man in 2021, ranking sixth in the FCS in average yards-per-kickoff return (29.5 yards).Offensive Lineman Jerome Carvin (Tennessee)Carvin is a versatile player who possesses significant experience at all three spots along the interior of the offensive line. A five-year contributor at Tennessee, Carvin logged 21 starts at left guard, 17 starts at right guard and five starts at center during his time in Knoxville.Additionally, the 6-foot-4, 307-pound Carvin played alongside Chiefs' right guard Trey Smith and rookie offensive tackle (and third-round pick) Wanya Morris at Tennessee during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Carvin and Smith were also teammates during the 2018 campaign prior to Morris' arrival.Safety Anthony Cook (Texas)The six-foot-tall, 188-pound Cook has good size for the position and logged significant experience on special teams during his time with the Longhorns, which could prove beneficial as he aims to make the Chiefs' roster. He logged a career-most 678 defensive snaps in 2022, recording five passes defensed and a forced fumble. It's also worth mentioning that he was a cornerback for his first three seasons in Austin before transitioning to safety in 2021.Offensive Lineman Anderson Hardy (Appalachian State)The 6-foot-6, 301-pound Hardy appeared in 44 games (with 29 starts) during his career, including a stretch of 28 consecutive starts at left tackle to close out his time at Appalachian State. He logged at least 800 snaps at left tackle in each of the last two seasons and surrendered just two sacks last year.Offensive Lineman Blake Haynes (Tarleton State)Haynes – who stands at 6-foot-6 and 305 pounds – was the Texans' starting right tackle in each of the last two seasons, logging more than 700 total offensive snaps in each. He was particularly effective as a run-blocker, recording the eighth-best run-blocking Pro Football Focus grade in the FCS last season.Linebacker Cam Jones (Indiana)One of the higher-profile names available on the open market, Jones was the No. 15 overall linebacker in this year's class according to The Athletic's Dane Brugler. He projected Jones to be selected in the fifth or sixth round in his pre-draft guide, writing the following:"Overall, Jones' take-on and shed skills require further maintenance, but his instincts and short-area quicks lead him to the football, where he looks to create violent collisions as a tackler. He is a ready-made special teamer with the talent to inch his way up the linebacker depth chart."The 6-foot-1, 226-pound linebacker racked up 208 tackles, 13.5 tackles-for-loss, 11 passes defensed, seven sacks, five forced fumbles and two interceptions in 47 career games (23 starts) from 2018-22. He also played on kick and punt return coverage in all five of his seasons.Additionally, Brugler wrote that Jones was on his way to a career year before suffering a season-ending foot injury midway through the campaign. Prior to the injury, he was leading the Big Ten in tackles-per-game (10.8) through five contests. Brugler added that Jones remained on the sideline as an extra coach throughout the rest of the year despite the injury.Defensive End Truman Jones (Harvard)A Second-Team All-American in 2022, Jones led the Ivy League with 13 tackles-for-loss last season to go along with six sacks. The Columbia, Missouri native racked up 49 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss and four sacks in 2022 while splitting snaps between the box (237 snaps) and the slot (201 snaps).Linebacker Isaiah Moore (North Carolina State)Another player who many expected to be drafted, Moore was the No. 17 linebacker in this year's class and a projected fifth or sixth-round pick according to The Athletic's Dane Brugler.Moore – who stands at 6-foot-2 and 233 pounds – earned the distinction of being called a "smashmouth run defender" in Brugler's draft guide. He recorded 55 starts during his college career, earning Team Captain honors in each of the last three seasons while racking up 341 total tackles, 43.5 tackles-for-loss, 11.5 sacks and 11 passes defensed.Defensive Back Isaiah Norman (Marshall)A six-foot-tall, 206-pound defensive back, Norman was a versatile member of the Thundering Herd's defense in 2022. He logged significant snaps inside the box (134 snaps), at slot corner (118 snaps) and at free safety (116 snaps) last season while missing just one tackle on 26 attempts.Prior to transferring to Marshall, Norman spent the first five seasons of his career at Austin Peay State University, where he racked up 137 tackles, 13 passes defensed and two interceptions in 42 career games.Running Back Deneric Prince (Tulsa)The No. 18 ranked running back in this year's class according to The Athletic's Dane Brugler, Prince was a projected fifth or sixth-round pick after a strong showing at the NFL Scouting Combine. In fact, Prince logged a 4.41-second 40-yard dash (fourth among all running backs) and a 10-foot-five-inch broad jump (fifth among all running backs).He averaged more than five yards-per-carry in each of his three seasons as a regular contributor while his production increased every year, culminating in a team-leading 729 rushing yards in 2022.Prince also has some size to him at six-feet-tall and 216 pounds.Wide Receiver Nikko Remigio (Fresno State)Remigio – who stands at 5-foot-9 and 187 pounds – was a four-year contributor (largely as a return man) at the University of California before transferring to Fresno State for the 2022 campaign. He made the most of his fifth year, too, tallying career-bests in receptions (74), receiving yards (852) and receiving touchdowns (6). Remigio was also tied for the FBS lead with two punt return touchdowns.He was almost exclusively a slot receiver during the entirety of his college career, lining up in the slot on 84 percent of his offensive snaps last season.Wide Receiver Tyrone Scott (Missouri State)Another local product, Scott checks in at 6-foot-1 and 199 pounds. He spent the first three seasons of his career at Central Michigan before transferring to Missouri State in 2021, where he went on to catch 66 passes for 1,110 yards and eight touchdowns that year. Scott then hauled in 48 catches for 674 yards and five touchdowns this past season.Primarily an outside receiver for the Bears, Scott lined up on the outside on 75 percent of his offensive snaps in 2022.Cornerback Reese Taylor (Purdue)Taylor stands at 5-foot-9 and 188 pounds with large hands (10 inches). He was a rotational player at Indiana for four seasons (2019-21) before transferring to Purdue for the 2022 campaign, where he saw the field for a career-most 594 defensive snaps. Taylor was almost exclusively an outside cornerback for the Hoosiers, recording 566 of those total snaps at that spot. He recorded two pass-breakups and an interception in 2022.Taylor also has experience as a return man, as he tallied 20 total punt and kick returns during his career.Cornerback Anthony Witherstone (Merrimack)The six-foot-tall, 189-pound Witherstone was primarily an outside cornerback for Merrimack and turned in strong campaigns in each of the last two seasons, surrendering a passer rating of 76.0 or lower in both. ⚾ 2023 NJCAA Baseball Plains Region Regional Tournament Pairings

One night before his team begins its quest for a third-straight national championship, Hutchinson Community College men's golf coach Chris Young will be inducted into the NJCAA Division I Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

The NJCAA, on Monday, announced the 2023 Hall of Fame Class on Monday. Young and former Indian Hills player Brad Smith make up the 2023 induction class.

Young and Smith will be enshrined next Monday, May 15 at the 2023 NJCAA Division I Championship in Newton.

Young has led the Hutchinson men's golf program for 23 seasons. His 2021 and 2022 teams won back-to-back national championships and the 2023 Blue Dragons enter next week's national championship ranked No. 1 in all three major polls.

(AP) — Kansas City Royals left-hander Ryan Yarbrough was placed on the 15-day injured list with what was classified as “head fractures” after taking a 106-mph line drive off the right side of his face Sunday. Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Yarbrough has three non-displaced fractures in different spots around his right eye. “He’s stable, improving,” Quatraro said before Monday’s game. “He never lost consciousness. He’s very aware of what’s going on around him. We don’t think at this time will require surgery. He’s getting further testing and we’ll have a better idea (of his prognosis) in the next 24 hours.”

CHICAGO (AP) — Willson Contreras had two hits and two RBIs in his return to Wrigley Field, including a tiebreaking double, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 3-1. St. Louis also got a strong effort from its bullpen in its second straight win after an eight-game losing streak. Génesis Cabrera, Jordan Hicks and Ryan Helsley combined for 4 2/3 innings of one-hit ball in relief of Miles Mikolas. Contreras played for Chicago for seven seasons before departing in free agency, signing an $87.5 million, five-year contract with St. Louis in December.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Mitch Keller pitched his first career complete game and Rodolfo Castro hit a two-run homer as the Pittsburgh Pirates snapped their seven-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night. Keller (4-1) shut out the Rockies on four hits while striking out eight and walking one in a game that took just 1 hour, 55 minutes. The fifth-year veteran had never pitched into the eighth inning before. It was the first nine-inning shutout by a Pirates pitcher since Jameson Taillon on April 8, 2018.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs will have a hard time replicating the production they got out of last year's rookie class. Whether it was first-round picks Trent McDuffie and George Karlaftis or seventh-round pick Isiah Pacheco, just about everyone in their 10-man class played a part in helping the Chiefs win the Super Bowl. The first step toward this year's class living up to that new high bar came over the weekend, when the draft picks joined rookie free agents and select other players in a three-day minicamp.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas State and Chris Klieman are finalizing a new contract that would give the Wildcats’ football coach a substantial pay raise while keeping him tied to the program for the next eight seasons. A person familiar with the deal tells the AP the contract will have a total value of $44 million. Klieman led the Wildcats to the Big 12 title last season before losing to Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

NEW YORK (AP) — Wichita State’s Sydney McKinney was the No. 1 overall pick in the Athletes Unlimited softball draft. She led the nation in batting average last season and leads the nation this season. McKinney heads the 14 players invited to play in Athletes Unlimited’s AUX and Championship seasons this summer. The AUX season runs June 12-27, and the championship season will run July 28-Aug. 27. This will be the second season of AUX and the fourth championship season. Both seasons crown individual champions. UCLA’s Megan Faraimo, Kentucky’s Kayla Kowalik and Alabama’s Montana Fouts were the next three picks.

UNDATED (AP) — West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins has apologized for using a homophobic slur to refer to Xavier fans while also denigrating Catholics. Huggins is a former longtime coach at Cincinnati, Xavier’s crosstown rival. During a call to a Cincinnati radio station Monday, Huggins was asked whether he had a chance of landing a Xavier player from the transfer portal. Huggins referred to rubber penises thrown on the court at Xavier before he used a homophobic slur. Huggins later apologized and said he “used a completely insensitive and abhorrent phrase that there is simply no excuse for." West Virginia’s athletic department called Huggins’ comments “offensive” and said it's reviewing the matter.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lonnie Walker scored all of his 15 points in a phenomenal fourth quarter, and the Los Angeles Lakers rallied late to take a 3-1 series lead with a 104-101 victory over the Golden State Warriors in Game 4. LeBron James scored 27 points and Anthony Davis had 23 points and 15 rebounds for the seventh-seeded Lakers, who moved to the brink of an improbable trip to the Western Conference finals with their eighth consecutive home victory since March. Los Angeles overcame Stephen Curry’s third career postseason triple-double down the stretch largely because of Walker.

MIAMI (AP) — Jimmy Butler scored 27 points and added 10 assists, Bam Adebayo finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds and the Miami Heat moved a win away from their third trip to the Eastern Conference finals in the last four years by topping the New York Knicks 109-101. Max Strus scored 16, Kyle Lowry added 15 and Caleb Martin scored 10 for the Heat. Miami, the No. 8 seed, leads the East semifinal series 3-1, with Game 5 — and the first potential clincher — awaiting in New York on Wednesday night. Jalen Brunson finished with 32 points and 11 assists for fifth-seeded New York, while RJ Barrett scored 24 and Julius Randle scored 20 for the Knicks before fouling out with about three minutes left.

DENVER (AP) — Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for making improper contact in the stands with Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia. Jokic was not suspended. The two-time NBA MVP is all set for Game 5 on Tuesday night in Denver. The second-round series is tied at 2-2 after both teams won at home. It was almost the outcome Ishbia was hoping for. On his Twitter account Monday, Ishbia praised his team’s performance and urged no further disciplinary action. Jokic defended his actions after a game in which he had 53 points and 11 assists.

DENVER (AP) — The home team has won every game in the second-round series between the Denver Nuggets and the Phoenix Suns. The Nuggets are looking to keep the trend going in Game 5 on Tuesday night. Philadelphia also plays at Boston with that series tied at 2-all as well. It's not surprise that Phoenix standouts Kevin Durant and Devin Booker are turning in big performances. Same with the Nuggets in Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic, whose 53-point performance in a 129-124 loss Sunday was overshadowed by a sideline fracas with Suns owner Mat Ishbia. It’s the X-factors who are helping swing the series.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Jonathan Marchessault scored his first two goals of the playoffs, Jack Eichel had a goal and an assist, and the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 for a 2-1 lead in their second-round playoff series. Zach Whitecloud and Chandler Stephenson also scored for Vegas. Laurent Brossoit left at 11:44 of the first period after turning away three of four shots. Adin Hill came on and stopped all 25 shots he saw. Warren Foegele scored the first goal of the game for Edmonton before the Golden Knights countered with five. Stuart Skinner was pulled in the second period after giving up four goals on 23 shots. Jack Campbell replaced him and made nine saves. Game 4 of the best-of-seven series is here Wednesday night, followed by Game 5 on Friday night at Las Vegas.

UNDATED (AP) — The University of Iowa says 26 athletes across five sports are suspected of wagering on sports in violation of NCAA rules and more than 100 people have been linked to an investigation. Iowa State acknowledged about 15 of its athletes across three sports also are suspected of violating gambling rules. Last week, Alabama fired baseball coach Brad Bohannon following a report of suspicious bets made at an Ohio casino involving his team. NCAA rules prohibit athletes, coaches and staff from betting on amateur, collegiate and professional sports in which the NCAA conducts a championship.

ROSE HILL, Kan.&nbsp;— The Buhler Crusaders baseball team ended the regular season with a split on the road at Rose Hill on Monday evening. The Crusaders won the first game 6-3, before falling in the second game 6-3.

The Crusaders jumped on the Rockets early in the first game, as Matthew Eddy hit his first home run of the season. Jeffrey Neill earned the win on the mound. Buhler collected six hits in the win.

Buhler jumped out to a quick start in the second game, leading 3-0. The Rockets had an answer and would score the next six runs in the game to earn the split. The Rockets scattered 10 hits in the ballgame. Bryant Voth and Brenden Scripsick each had two hits apiece to lead the Crusaders.

The Crusaders finish the regular season with a 14-6 record and can finish no worse than fifth place in the class 4A west regional standings. The Rockets end their regular season 16-4 and will be the No. 2 seed in regional play next week.

Based on their play, a select group of players from the camp will be invited to participate in the Microsoft Surface NBA Draft Combine 2023, which will be held May 15-21 at Wintrust Arena. Nowell will be joined at the camp by North Carolina's&nbsp;Leaky Black, UCLA's&nbsp;Tyger Campbell, Florida's&nbsp;Colin Castleton, Detroit's&nbsp;Antoine Davis, Memphis'&nbsp;Kendric Davis, Michigan State's&nbsp;Joey Hauser, Missouri's&nbsp;D'Moi Hodge, TCU's&nbsp;Emanuel Miller&nbsp;and Texas'&nbsp;Sir'Jabari Rice&nbsp;among others.
