
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team improved its record to 3-0 on the season following a 107-63 win over Neosho County on Tuesday at the Sports Arena.
The 107 points scored are the most since the Blue Dragons beat Garden City, 103-61 on February 8, 2020.
Hutchinson (3-0) had five players score in double figures, led by Monae Duffy with 24, one away from matching her career-high. Duffy finished nearly perfect from the floor, knocking down 11 of 12 shot attempts.
Kiki Smith added 19 points, the third time in as many games the freshman from Topeka has scored double figures.
Liberal native Bree Horyna finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds, marking her second straight double-double.
Journey Armstead (12 points, 6 assists) and Hailey Jackson (11 points, 9 rebounds) both rounded out the Blue Dragon double-figure scorers.
The Blue Dragons trailed by as many as 10 points in the first quarter and found themselves down 26-23 at the quarters end.
Hutchinson dominated the second quarter and led 49-34 at halftime.
The Hutchinson lead continued to grow as the game went on, outscoring the Panthers 58-29 in the second half to cruise to the 44-point victory.
Hutchinson finished with 67 rebounds in the game, the third straight game to start the season that the Blue Dragons have had 60-plus rebounds in. The Blue Dragons also dominated the paint, scoring 70 points in the lane.
Neosho (1-1) was led by Tiara Hozumi with 15 points, as Jahniya Brown added 14.
The Blue Dragons travel to Great Bend on Friday and Saturday for the Barton Classic hosted by Barton Community College. Hutchinson will play Labette on Friday at 1 p.m. and Redlands on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Friday game will air on 102.9-FM KHUT and Saturday will be carried on 1450-AM & 98.5-FM KWBW.
