Tickets for tonight's originally scheduled game will be honored for the rescheduled game, which will be Game 1 of tomorrow's doubleheader. Fans do not have to exchange their original tickets if they elect to attend the rescheduled game.

WICHITA, Kan.  – The Purple &amp; Black – Kansas State's men's basketball alumni team – will host an open scrimmage at Bramlage Coliseum on Friday night (July 14) as they prepare for the start of The Basketball Tournament (TBT). 

The event is open and free to the public with doors to the Northwest entrance of Bramlage Coliseum opening at 6 p.m., CT with the event expected to start at 6:30 p.m., CT. Fans are encouraged to park in the west lots. The team is also hosting a Meet &amp; Greet at Powercat Sports Grill following event. The Purple &amp; Black will open the TBT on Thursday, July 20 against the DaGuys STL at 6 p.m., CT in the Wichita Regional at Koch Arena. 🏀 MBB: Purple & Black to Host Scrimmage at Bramlage Coliseum

The 50th annual Kansas Shrine Bowl all-star football game will take place on Saturday at Lewis Field Stadium on the campus of Fort Hays State University. The west team will have eight players from the Reno County area that will have the opportunity to represent their high school one final time. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. and will be televised on COX, Smoky Hills PBS, and Spectrum Sports.

Host cities have included Lawrence, Manhattan, Wichita, Topeka, Hays, Emporia, Pittsburg, Dodge City and Hutchinson.&nbsp; Beginning in 1974, the flagship event has been the East/West All-Star Football Game. 🏈 8 area grads to play in 50th Kansas Shrine Bowl game on Saturday in Hays

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Senior tight end Mason Fairchild is one of 136 college football players who have been nominated for the 2023 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team®, which was announced by the AFCA earlier this week.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team recognizes student-athletes from around the country for exemplary community service, academic dedication and impact on and off the field.

From Andale, Kansas, Fairchild is a three-year starter at tight end for the Jayhawks. He’s coming off the best year of his career as he ranked third on the team with 35 receptions for 443 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 12.7 yards per reception. Fairchild was named an All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2022 and he’s a three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection while majoring in Engineering Physics.

Fairchild is among Kansas’ most proactive student-athletes involved in community service and was a part of the 402 hours of community service contributed by the Jayhawks in the summer of 2022. While at KU, Fairchild participated in Lawrence community clean ups, camps, United Way Day of Giving and more.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate worked to present the award starting with the 2008 season.

From the 136 nominees, the final roster of 23 award recipients will bring together 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision; 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III, and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA); and one honorary head coach. To be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining strong academic standing.

Kansas will host seven games at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium during the 2023 season, beginning on Friday, September 1, against Missouri State. The following week, Kansas hosts Illinois on Friday, September 8, for a nationally televised contest on ESPN2. Georgia athletics, Jalen Carter sued by passenger in fatal crash of Bulldogs player and staffer

ATLANTA (AP) — A woman seriously injured in the Jan. 15 car crash that killed Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock and an athletics staffer has sued the school's athletics association and former Bulldogs defensive tackle Jalen Carter for damages. Victoria S. Bowles was riding in the backseat of the rented Ford Expedition driven by fellow UGA recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy, who died in the crash while racing Carter at more than 104 mph following the Bulldogs' College Football Playoff championship celebration. Bowles' lawsuit filed Wednesday in Gwinnett County State Court accuses the UGA Athletics Association of negligent entrustment of LeCroy despite having two "super speeder" violations among four speeding tickets.

PGA Tour and Saudi wealth fund drop poaching clause from agreement at Justice Department's request

The PGA Tour deal with Saudi Arabia's wealth fund is dropping a clause in their agreement over poaching. That's after the Justice Department raised antitrust concerns. The agreement is for the PGA Tour, European tour and Public Investment Fund to become partners. A clause in the framework agreement was that neither side would try to poach players from other tours. The tour said Thursday that it believes the clause is lawful. But it says it has removed it because the clause isn't needed as they work together in negotiating the final deal. No more players are likely to join LIV this season.

McIlroy says he'd retire if LIV Golf was the only place to play

GULLANE, Scotland (AP) — Rory McIlroy is laughing off a Saudi-backed idea that he and Tiger Woods own LIV Golf teams. McIlroy says he would retire if LIV Golf was the only place left on earth to play though he'd still compete at the majors. Those are part of his first comments since the Senate hearing on the PGA Tour's agreement to partner with Saudi Arabia's national wealth fund. One of the documents Congress obtained contained a series of dreamy proposals for compromise. McIlroy has not hidden his disdain for the rival circuit funded by Saudi Arabia.

Jets agree to 4-year, $96 million contract extension with All-Pro Quinnen Williams, AP source says

A person with knowledge of the deal says All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and the New York Jets have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $96 million. Williams is now the second-highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL at $24 million per year behind only the Rams' Aaron Donald, who is making $31.7 million per year. The deal for Williams includes $66 million in guaranteed salary, according to a person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team didn't announce the terms of the contract.

The legal headaches could only be starting for ex-Northwestern football coach Pat Fitzgerald and West Virginia's Bob Huggins. Fitzgerald was fired this week following hazing allegations in the program. He originally was suspended for two weeks before the school changed course. West Virginia considers Huggins to have resigned after a drunken-driving arrest last month. Huggins says he never formally stepped down and wants to keep coaching basketball. Industry experts are puzzled by what happened. Marty Greenberg is an attorney specializing in coaching contracts. The 24-year-old Pulisic has struggled with injuries and never fully lived up to expectations at Chelsea. He has left the London club with a year left on his contract. Boonchant holes out for eagle on her second shot of the round, shares the lead in the Dana Open

Jaravee Boonchant holed out from 128 yards for eagle on No. 10 on her second shot of the round and had a 7-under 64 for a share of the first-round lead with Linn Grant in the LPGA Tour's Dana Open. Boonchant also had seven birdies and two bogeys at Highland Meadows. The 24-year-old Thai player is winless on the LPGA Tour after helping Duke take the 2019 NCAA title. She missed the cut last week in the U.S. Women's Open at Pebble Beach. Grant had a bogey-free round, opening with six straight pars on the back nine. HUTCHINSON, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson Monarchs scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 5-5 tie and take game two of its series against the Derby Twins, 9-6 on Thursday evening at Hobart-Detter Field.

Hutchinson (11-13) scored six of its nine runs in the final two frames. The Monarchs trailed by two entering the seventh, but thanks to an RBI from Cal York and Will Edmunson the Monarchs tied the game at 5.&nbsp;

The Monarchs sent eight to the plate in the four-run eighth inning that was highlighted by a two-run double from Austin Coyle and an RBI single from Edmunson on back-to-back plate appearances.&nbsp;

Derby (15-15) scored three runs in the first inning to take a quick lead and then one more in the third to lead 4-0. 

The Monarchs did not have a baserunner until the fourth inning. Blake Bradford changed that with a double to right field to lead the inning off. Edmunson scored Bradford on an RBI single to right to put the Monarchs on the board. Max Buettenback then homered down the right field line to pull the Monarchs within 4-3.&nbsp;

Bradford (2-for-3) and Edmunson (2-for-5) were the lone Monarchs with a multi-hit game, while Edmunson drove in a team-high three runs. Coyle, Buettenback and York each had two RBI in the win.

Carson Cornelius picked up the win in a relief outing for the Monarchs on the mound, going the eighth inning of work. Cornelius was one of four Monarchs pitchers in the outing. Brett Black got the start and went six innings, allowing four runs and striking out three. Drew Bugner and Cole Tourreau each went an inning of work, as well.

Jude Stephens suffered the loss for the Twins after the Monarchs roughed him up for four runs in an inning of work. Tyler Cowan (2-for-4) and Cole Wilson (2-for-3) both had a multi-hit night for the Twins, while Viggo Lopez drove in a team-high two.

⚾ Monarchs score 6 late, even series with Twins

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— In conjunction with Major League Baseball, the Kansas City Royals today announced their 2024 regular season schedule. All games times will be announced at a later date.

Opening Day is scheduled for Thursday, March 28 at Kauffman Stadium vs. the Minnesota Twins. This will match 2019 for the earliest Opening Day in franchise history and will mark the eighth time in 10 years dating back to 2015 that the Royals will open the regular season at home. The 2024 season will mark the second straight year the Royals will begin vs. the Twins and the sixth time in 56 seasons overall.

The Royals will end the regular season on the road with a 6-game trip to Washington from Sept. 24-26 and Atlanta from Sept. 27-29. This will mark just the second time in nine seasons since 2016 that the Royals will end the regular season on the road, along with 2022.

For the second straight season, Major League Baseball will continue its balanced schedule, in which the Royals will play all other 29 teams. Kansas City’s 162-game schedule will include:

The breakdown of divisional games will include 7 home games and 6 road games vs. Cleveland and Chicago, and 6 home games and 7 road games vs. Detroit and Minnesota.

The Royals won’t play more than 13 consecutive days at any point, but they have six stretches that will last that long, from April 19-May 1, May 3-15, June 4-16, June 18-30, July 26-Aug. 7 and Aug. 23-Sept. 4.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — LeBron James plans to play next season for the Los Angeles Lakers. The 38-year-old superstar announced his intentions at The ESPYS. James accepted the record-breaking performance award for becoming the NBA's career scoring leader. James had said at the end of last season that he wasn't sure if he would be back. He says the day he can't give everything to the game he will retire, but he told the crowd, "Lucky for you guys that day is not today." The audience in Los Angeles greeted his words with a huge cheer.

Panama upsets US 5-4 on penalty kicks after 1-1 tie to reach CONCACAF Gold Cup final

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Adalberto Carrasquilla converted the decisive penalty kick after Cristian Roldan failed to convert his attempt, and Panama beat the defending champion United States 5-4 in a shootout after a 1-1 tie to reach the CONCACAF Gold Cup final against Mexico. Iván Anderson scored in the ninth minute of extra time. Jesús Ferreira tied the score for the U.S. six minutes later. Panama reached the final for the third time after losing to the U.S. in 2005 and 2013. The U.S. failed to reach the final for the first time since a 2015 semifinal loss.

Patrick Mahomes already is a two-time Super Bowl MVP and AP NFL MVP before turning 28, compiling an impressive Hall of Fame-worthy resume in only six seasons. If any player is ever going to challenge Tom Brady for greatest-of-all-time status, Mahomes has the best chance. Like Brady and other superstar athletes, Mahomes still works to improve, aiming to keep the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl contention. Ons Jabeur eliminated defending champion Elena Rybakina in a rematch of last year's final to get back to the semifinals. The sixth-seeded Tunisian walked into the main stadium at the All England Club to play Elena Rybakina in a rematch of last year's final. Jabeur lost that time but not this time. And she joked it was possibly thanks to the seating arrangements. Jabeur says when they entered the court "I made sure I changed seats ... I went for the other seat that she won (from) last year." Jabeur won 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1 and will next face Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals on Thursday. The second-seeded Belarusian beat Madison Keys 6-2, 6-4.

Ja Morant's lawyers cite 'stand your ground' law, self-defense in pickup basketball lawsuit

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The future of a lawsuit accusing Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant of assaulting a teenager during a pickup basketball game hinges on whether Morant will be allowed to say that he was acting in self-defense and can receive immunity under Tennessee law. A judge on Wednesday allowed Morant's lawyers to proceed with their case that Morant was acting in self-defense when he punched then-17-year-old Joshua Holloway during a game at Morant's Memphis-area home in July 2022. Morant's lawyers have acknowledged he punched Holloway one time after Holloway threw a basketball at Morant and the ball hit him in the chin. Morant has filed a countersuit against Holloway.

ESPN's Dick Vitale diagnosed with cancer for a 3rd time

Longtime ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale says he has been diagnosed with cancer for a third time. Vitale tweeted Wednesday that he had surgery in Boston this week, and tests revealed that he has vocal cord cancer. He said he will undergo six weeks of radiation treatments. He says he will fight to be ready to call games when the college basketball season begins this fall. The 84-year-old Vitale has previously been treated for melanoma and lymphoma. Vitale has been with ESPN since 1979, the year the network launched. He's also a longtime fundraiser for cancer research.

Suspect in Larry Nassar stabbing said ex-doctor made lewd remark watching Wimbledon, AP source says

WASHINGTON (AP) — A prisoner suspected of stabbing Larry Nassar at a federal penitentiary in Florida said the disgraced former sports doctor provoked the attack by making a lewd comment while they were watching a Wimbledon tennis match. That's according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. Court records show the inmate, identified as Shane McMillan, was previously convicted of assaulting a correctional officer at a federal penitentiary in Louisiana in 2006 and attempting to stab another inmate to death at the federal Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado in 2011. Messages seeking comment were left with lawyers who've represented McMillan in his past cases.

GULLANE, Scotland (AP) — PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan is set to return to work next week. Xander Schauffele says there are tough questions for him to answer about the tour's stunning commercial deal with the Saudis. And he believes Monahan has some trust to earn back from the players because of the secretive nature of the deal with the Saudi Arabia wealth fund behind LIV Golf. Schauffele says Monahan had his trust and now has a lot less of it. Jordan Spieth also said Monahan will have quite a bit of trust issues with players. HUTCHINSON, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson Monarchs dropped its first game of a three-game series against the Derby Twins, 6-5 on Wednesday evening at Hobart-Detter Field. 

The Twins used a run in each of the final two frames to go from trailing by one to a one-run lead.

Hutchinson (10-13) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Caleb Cotton scored on a wild pitch, and then Austin Coyle singled to score Jaden Gustafson.

Derby (15-14) responded with a single run in the top of the second to cut the Monarchs lead in half. The Twins scored three in the fifth inning on four hits and two Hutchinson errors to go in front 4-2.

Paris Pridgen came up with a clutch hit for the Monarchs on an RBI double off the fence in centerfield to get within one. Drew Bugner grounded out to first to score Bugner to tie the game at four through six.

The Monarchs grabbed the 5-4 lead in the seventh with an RBI single up the middle from Max Buettenback that scored Blake Bradford. Hutchinson stranded the bases loaded and maintained the one-run lead after seven.

Derby tied the game up with an RBI single to center in the eighth from Tyler Monroe. Viggo Lopez plated the go-ahead run with a pinch hit groundout in the ninth.&nbsp;

SEATTLE (AP) — Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred will consider increasing time on the pitch clock for the postseason but is reluctant to adjust an innovation the sport considers a great success.

In the first season of the clock, the average time of a nine-inning game is 2 hours, 38 minutes, on track to be the fastest since 1984. It is down from 3:04 last year and 3:09 in 2021, the last season before PitchCom was introduced.

"We’re going to continue to talk to the players," Manfred told the Baseball Writers' Association of America on Tuesday. “I think you ought to play the postseason the way you play the regular season. There’s exceptions. I’m open-minded on that topic.”

The clock is set at 15 seconds with no runners on base and 20 seconds with runners. There also are restrictions on defensive shifts and limits on pitcher disengagements.

“I don’t believe there’s any player, nor do I believe there are too many folks that want to have a new rule dramatically affect a game in a pennant chase or in the playoffs,” union head Tony Clark told the BBWAA. “Players believe and we’ve been pretty consistent with this, that there are some adjustments that could be beneficial in the grand scheme of things so that we’re not having a conversation about a new rule and instead focused in on the game being played."

MLB has a majority of the 11-member competition committee, which includes four players.

"We are comfortable with the way the clock and the violations, particularly late in the game in high-leverage situations we’ve been watching, have been managed,” Manfred said,

There were 721 violations through July 4, of which 501 were by pitchers, 208 by batters and 12 by catchers. Philadelphia's Craig Kimbrel lead currently with 11 violations, followed by Toronto's Chris Bassitt with nine and San Diego's Joe Musgrove with seven.

“In a big spot,” Kimbrel said Monday, “if it's 1-2, 0-2, I'm really thinking about my pitch and wanting to make a good pitch. I’m not going to rush just to get the pitch off. I’d rather take the ball.”

Left-handed batters are hitting .248, up 13 points through the similar point last season. Righties are hitting .248, up one point, leaving the overall batting average up six points.

Runs per game have increased to 9.1 from 8.7 and steals per game to 1.4 from 1.0.

Average attendance of 28,404 is up 8.1% from a similar time&nbsp;last year&nbsp;and on track to be the highest since 2018, and MLB says the median age of ticket buyers is 43, down from 46 in 2022 and 49 in 2019. This is the&nbsp;first season since 2000 with a balanced schedule.

SEATTLE (AP) — Shining brightly in the Emerald City, the National League snapped a losing streak that lasted more than a decade.

An unheralded catcher from Colorado delivered the big blow.

Elias Díaz&nbsp;<a href="https://www.mlb.com/video/diaz-s-two-run-go-ahead-homer?partnerId=web_video-playback-page_video-share" target="_blank">hit a two-run homer</a>&nbsp;off Félix Bautista in the eighth inning, and the NL snapped a nine-game losing streak in the All-Star Game with a 3-2 win over the American League on Tuesday night.

The NL won for the first time since an 8-0 victory in 2012 in Kansas City, and Díaz became the first Rockies player to win the All-Star MVP award.

“It feels incredible. When we all got here, we all talked about how we were going to bring home the win,” said Díaz, who was non-tendered by the Pirates at the end of 2019. “I just didn’t realize it was going to be me to bring home the win.”

Díaz&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/MLBONFOX/status/1678959427427106820?s=20" target="_blank">drove a 2-2 pitch</a>&nbsp;from Baltimore’s hard-throwing closer deep to left to put the NL in front. Díaz was the lone representative for Colorado in his first All-Star Game appearance.

“It does matter. We wanted to win, the American League we wanted to win,” Bautista said through an interpreter. “But overall I think that it’s an experience I’ll never forget and just wish that would have been a little bit different.”

Díaz has nine homers this season, but hadn’t hit a long ball since June 23 against the Los Angeles Angels.

“As soon as he walked in the clubhouse and I met him, he said, ‘I’ll do anything you want. If I play, I play. If I don’t, I don’t. I’m just so happy to be here,’” NL manager Rob Thomson said. “So for him to do that, it’s fantastic.”

For most of the night, the All-Star Game was a pitchers’ duel highlighted by a couple big hits and some excellent defense.

It got nervous for the NL&nbsp;<a href="https://www.mlb.com/video/jose-ramirez-strikes-out-swinging-v1cmuc?partnerId=web_video-playback-page_video-share" target="_blank">with Philadelphia closer Craig Kimbrel</a>&nbsp;on the mound in the ninth.

“I threw way more pitches than I wanted to on an off day,” Kimbrel joked.

Wander Franco led off with a fly ball to the warning track, and Kimbrel issued two-out walks to Kyle Tucker and Seattle star Julio Rodríguez.

The 22-year-old Rodríguez was in position to close it out in front of his home crowd.

“I was definitely trying to win it. But it was a situation where I had to pass the baton,” he said.

Kimbrel recovered to strike out José Ramírez to end it. Kimbrel also pitched in the previous NL win, recording two outs in 2012.

“The ninth inning in the dugout was just a lot of fun to experience,” said San Diego’s Josh Hader, who pitched the eighth for the NL.

Yandy Díaz hit a solo homer in the second and Bo Bichette’s sacrifice fly in the sixth gave the AL a 2-1 lead.

J.D. Martinez doubled and scored on Luis Arraez’s single in the fourth against Seattle’s George Kirby, tying it at 1. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. appeared to tie the game again in the seventh when his shot down the left-field line was originally ruled a homer but was overturned as a foul ball on replay.

The All-Star Game returned to Seattle for the first time since 2001 when the Mariners were in the middle of their magical 116-win regular season, Cal Ripken Jr. said goodbye to the All-Star stage and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4GbGVk9DKk" target="_blank">Tommy Lasorda took a tumble</a>.

Gerrit Cole became the first New York Yankees pitcher to start the All-Star Game since Roger Clemens in that 2001 game. He needed a pair of spectacular leaping catches from Adolis García and&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/MLBONFOX/status/1678923988397858817?s=20" target="_blank">Randy Arozarena</a>&nbsp;near the wall to escape the first inning unscathed.

With the Seattle crowd aware of Ohtani's pending free agency this offseason, the stadium broke out into loud chants of "Come to Seattle! Come to Seattle!"

Manfred has no intention of altering Pete Rose's lifetime ban from baseball

SEATTLE (AP) — Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has no intention of altering Pete Rose's lifetime ban from baseball and said the sport's commercial deals with gambling companies have no impact on the status of the career hits leader. Rose agreed to a lifetime ban in 1989 after an investigation found Rose placed numerous bets on the Cincinnati Reds to win from 1985-87 while playing for and managing the team. Manfred rejected Rose's application in 2015. Manfred says: "Pete Rose violated what is sort of rule one in baseball, and the consequences of that are clear in the rule."

Elina Svitolina has the Ukraine war and her baby in mind as she beats Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Elina Svitolina is back in her first Grand Slam semifinal since 2019. She got there at Wimbledon by beating No. 1 Iga Swiatek in three sets Tuesday. Things are much different for Svitolina now than they were the last time she made it to the final four at a major tournament. She is a mother who gave birth to a daughter nine months ago and returned to the tour three months ago. And she is concerned about the war in her native Ukraine, which was invaded by Russia in February 2022. Svitolina will face Marketa Vondrousova for a berth in Saturday's final. Novak Djokovic will play Jannik Sinner in the men's semifinals.

MILAN (AP) — United States forward Christian Pulisic has arrived in Italy for a medical with AC Milan before an expected transfer from Chelsea. The 24-year-old Pulisic has one year left on his contract at Chelsea but is expected to sign a four-year deal with the Rossoneri and become the third American to play for the club after Oguchi Onyewu and Sergiño Dest. American-owned Milan is reportedly preparing to pay a transfer fee of 20 million euros ($22 million) for Pulisic. That would be less than half of what Chelsea paid Borussia Dortmund for Pulisic in 2019. Pulisic never fully lived up to expectations in England.

Saudi investment in PGA Tour will top $1 billion. And Norman will exit as LIV's CEO, tour exec says

WASHINGTON (AP) — A PGA Tour executive has told Congress that Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund agreed to invest more than $1 billion in a new commercial entity controlled by the tour. Ron Price, the tour's chief operating officer, also said at a hearing Tuesday that Greg Norman will be ousted as the CEO of LIV Golf if the business deal between the Saudis and the tour is finalized. The Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations is looking into the negotiations between the tour and the Saudis and the geopolitical implications of Saudi investment in American sports. However, there was no indication that Congress would block the tour from going into business with the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
