Bam Adebayo added 20 points and eight rebounds. Kyle Lowry, Caleb Martin and Gabe Vincent and Max Strus all added 15 points apiece. The Heat went 16 of 31 from the 3-point line. UNDATED (AP) — A Florida judge has sided with superstar golfer Tiger Woods in a legal dispute with his ex-girlfriend. Judge Elizabeth Metzger rejected late Wednesday an attempt by Erica Herman to throw out her nondisclosure agreement with Woods. Metzger called Herman's allegation that was a victim of sexual harassment “vague and threadbare.” She also said that Herman's questioning if whether she actually signed the agreement is also something that should be decided by the arbitrator. Herman has been suing Woods and the trust that owns his Florida mansion, seeking $30 million from the latter. Herman and Woods were together for about five years before they split in October.

NEWTON, Kan. – Day 2 of the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship was pretty similar to Day 1 for the Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons on Wednesday.

The Dragons had a strong start, then struggled through the middle holes only to grind to a good finish in the second round at Sand Creek Station. Hutchinson shot a 3-over-par 291 on Wednesday and is in ninth place at the halfway point of the 2023 Championship.

Round 3 of the 72-hole event is Thursday with Blue Dragon tee times from Noon to 12:40 p.m. Hutchinson will be paired with Blinn and McLennan for the third round on Thursday.

The Blue Dragons made an early move on Wednesday led by sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/clemons_dominic_18vf">Dominic Clemons</a>&nbsp;who had birdies on Nos. 1, 3 and 4 and Hutchinson was 4-under par through four holes and up to a tie for fifth after starting the round eighth in the team standings.

Over the next 10 holes, the Blue Dragons played 8-over par with the Blue Dragons registering only two birdies over that span of holes. The Dragons closed the round with birdies from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/anderson_marco_z2pq">Marco Anderson</a>&nbsp;on Nos. 16 and 18 and birdies on No. 18 from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/galvin_louis_mscz">Louis Galvin</a>&nbsp;and Clemons to finish the round 3-under par over the final three holes to close at 291 on Wednesday.

New Mexico Junior College had a team-low round of 11-under 277 on Wednesday and trails Indian Hills by one stroke. Midland and Western Texas are tied for third at 572.

Clemons shot the Blue Dragons low round of the day at 71 with five birdies and four bogeys. He closed his round with a short downhill birdie putt on No. 18. Clemons is tied for 50th at 3-over 147.

Saffell and Lindstrom are also tied at 147 with Clemons.

Saffell had one birdie and two bogeys in the second round. Lindstrom shot a 78 in the second round.

Anderson was 4-over par through nine holes, but mixed in three birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to finish with a 75. Anderson is tied for 62nd at 4-over 148.

New Mexico's Matthis Lefevre birdied No. 18 on Wednesday to take a one-stroke lead at 7-under 137. There is a three-way tie for second at 138 with New Mexico's Will Green, Indian Hills' Gaspar Glaudas and first-round leader Keith Hunter of Wallace State.

⛳  Blue Dragons 9th at mid-point of NJCAA Championship

SAN DIEGO (AP) — What was left of the crowd of 32,416 at Petco Park on a gloomy afternoon loudly booed the San Diego Padres after Ha-Seong Kim made the last out of a dismal 4-3 loss to the lowly Kansas City Royals.

It wasn't the first time Wednesday frustrated fans let the high-priced Padres have it as they continued to flounder with runners in scoring position and make baserunning blunders.

The Padres were supposed to be so much better this year, with baseball's third-highest payroll and a quartet of superstars in Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., Xander Bogaerts and Juan Soto. Yet they dropped two of three to the Royals, who are last in the AL Central, and have lost nine of 11 overall to tumble to fourth place in the NL West, eight games behind the rival Los Angeles Dodgers and four games under .500.

“I mean, we're frustrated. The way that we finished the game, I would boo ourselves, too," Tatis said.

Machado, sidelined indefinitely after finding out he has a fractured bone in his left hand, agreed.

“I don’t blame them. We’re not playing well right now," said Machado, who was hurt when he was hit by a pitch Monday night and doesn't know if he'll need to go on the injured list. "There’s an expectation that we had coming into the season and they expect us to go out there and win every single game. I think collectively as a group we’ve got to go out there and be better as a group. We’ve got to trust the process. Things really aren’t really rolling our way right now, at all.”

The season opened with World Series aspirations after the Padres made a stirring run to the NL Championship Series last fall. Now there's an ugly skid that includes five losses in six games to the Dodgers, beaten by San Diego in four games during their Division Series last October.

San Diego's offensive woes continued despite Kansas City needing a bullpen day. The Padres scored twice in the sixth to pull to 4-3 but Tatis, moved down to third in the lineup, popped out weakly with the bases loaded to end the inning.

The Padres loaded the bases with one out in the seventh against Aroldis Chapman, but Trent Grisham struck out for the fourth straight time and then a wild pitch by Chapman caromed off the backstop right back to catcher Salvador Perez, who easily tagged out Juan Soto trying to score, ending the inning.

That blunder came one day after the Padres made two critical outs on the bases late in a 5-4 loss.

“We feel like we took good at-bats as an offense today and we keep the line moving, but we just couldn’t execute at the end,” Tatis said.

The Padres kept the clubhouse closed for several minutes afterward.

“Just as a group coming together, as a group just talking, seeing what’s going on and just giving some honest feedback each one to each other, as a group together,” Tatis said. “Of course, there’s frustration. Everybody’s been coming to this clubhouse, been working so hard. ... But just at the end of the day, it’s just not happening right now.”

Royals opener Carlos Hernández held the Padres to two hits in two scoreless innings while striking out four.

Yet they dropped two of three to the Royals, who are last in the AL Central, and have lost nine of 11 overall to tumble to fourth place in the NL West, eight games behind the rival Los Angeles Dodgers and four games under .500.“I mean, we're frustrated. The way that we finished the game, I would boo ourselves, too," Tatis said.Machado, sidelined indefinitely after finding out he has a fractured bone in his left hand, agreed.“I don’t blame them. We’re not playing well right now," said Machado, who was hurt when he was hit by a pitch Monday night and doesn't know if he'll need to go on the injured list. A top 10 finalist a season ago, McKinney is once again putting the nation on notice. McKinney was named to the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List prior to the season before making the cut at 25. Considered the most distinguished individual honor in Division I college softball, the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award recognizes outstanding athletic achievement by Division I female collegiate softball players from across the country. The Top 25 Finalists will be narrowed down to 10 athletes on May 3, followed by the Top 3 Finalists set to be released on May 17. AWARD SZN Wichita State brought home a lot of hardware from the American Athletic Conference regular season awards. HOME SWEET HOME Just a season ago Wichita State took on the role of road warrior. The Shockers had 27 home games at Wilkins Stadium in 2023 compared to only 11 in 2022. During the month of March Wichita State only left&nbsp;Wichita once. Seventeen of those 27 home games took&nbsp;place in the month of March, including matchups against 2022 NCAA Regional teams: Stanford, Nebraska, Missouri State, Arkansas, Minnesota and South Florida. SHOCKER NATION SHOWED UP Wichita State set a new school record for home season attendance in 2023, as 18,594 fans came through the gates at Wilkins Stadium. That season total ranked 26th nationally, while the Shockers also ranked 31st nationally in average attendace (715). STRONG RPI Wichita State checked in at No. 23 in the final RPI rankings prior to Selection Sunday. The win over the Cowgirls in Wichita marked the highest ranked win in program history, having never beaten a Top 5 team before the matchup. The road win over OSU marked the highest ranked win on the road in school history. Wichita State's resume now includes wins over No. 2/3 Oklahoma State (twice) and No. 9 Arkansas (March 14), making it the first season in school history with multiple Top 10 victories. Considered the most distinguished individual honor in Division I college softball, the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award recognizes outstanding athletic achievement by Division I female collegiate softball players from across the country. AWARD SZN Wichita State brought home a lot of hardware from the American Athletic Conference regular season awards. HOME SWEET HOME Just a season ago Wichita State took on the role of road warrior. The Shockers had 27 home games at Wilkins Stadium in 2023 compared to only 11 in 2022. The award is named for the former Washington State University standout who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s and was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. Five finalists will be named on May 30, and the award will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. Tolle's name is littered across the American Athletic Conference individual leaderboards in both pitching and hitting categories. As Wichita State's Saturday starter, he has gone 9-2 with a 3.78 ERA in 78.2 innings, the most wins and innings pitched in the conference. His 88 strikeouts rank third and&nbsp;his 3.78 ERA is fourth, all while holding opponents to a .228 batting average. Eight of his 13 appearances qualify as quality starts, and four times the left-hander has struck out 10 or more batters. Offensively, Tolle is hitting .321 with 13 home runs and 47 RBI, including home runs in all three games of this past weekend's series against South Florida. ⚾ Tolle named semifinalist for John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award

WICHITA, Kan.—11 hits, six runs and a lot of heart is what the Wichita Wind Surge put on display for their home crowd. In the first game of a six-game home stint the Wind Surge kept their winning streak alive. They have now won a season high six in a row. First place Arkansas had its seven game win streak end.

Arkansas started the game with a two-run homer from Isiah Gilliam when he drove in Robbie Tenerowicz.

The Surge answered right back in the bottom of the second. Alerick Soularie hit a line drive RBI out to right field that brought in David Banuelos.

The scoring did not stop for the Surge. They took the lead in the third inning as Alex Isola crushed a ball out into the berm in left field that drove in Will Holland. The score was now 3-2, but not for long.

A tough couple of throws and an error from third baseman Yunior Severino allowed the Travelers to steal the lead back. They secured two runs of their own in the top of the fifth which brought the score to 3-4.

Half an inning later, in the bottom of the fifth, the Surge struck gold again. There was no hesitation in Brooks Lee as he rocketed a ball for a two-shot home run that brought in Will Holland. The lead was once again with the Wind Surge as it was now 5-4.

In the bottom of the 8th the Surge decided they wanted to put the game away. Jake Rucker hit a line drive for a double out into left field and drove in Brooks Lee for an RBI. The score of 6-4 would go on to be the final score as the Surge won.

The winning pitcher was Chad Donato in relief and the losing pitcher was Kyle Tyler.

NOTES – Alerick Soularie and DaShawn Keirsey, Jr extended their hitting streaks to seven games.

⚾ Wichita Wind Surge keep streak alive in return home

WICHITA, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson Salthawks baseball team will travel to Wichita's West Urban Field, to take on&nbsp; Bishop Carroll in class 5A Regional baseball action first round. First pitch is scheduled for around 4 p.m.

The Salthawks are 4-16 start following splitting last Thursday to Salina South, while the Golden Eagles are 19-1 on the season and are the #1 seed out of 5A West.

Miley pitched in just nine games last season when he was with the Chicago Cubs and endured shoulder and elbow injuries. St. Louis starter Jordan Montgomery (2-6) pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. He is 0-6 in seven starts since winning at Milwaukee on April 8. Joel Payamps (2-0), the fourth of six pitchers, got the victory with 1 2/3 innings of work.

DENVER (AP) — Nick Senzel hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning, helping the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rockies 3-1 on Tuesday night. Colorado’s Ezequiel Tovar ended an 0-for-8 skid before breaking up a scoreless game in the bottom of the sixth inning with his third home run of the season. He connected on a 2-1 offering from the Reds’ Brandon Williamson, who was making his major league debut and had retired 14 in a row.

Williamson, a 25-year-old left-hander, struck out six in 5 2/3 innings and had allowed only a single to Charlie Blackmon in the first inning before Tovar hit a 415-foot shot to right-center.

TORONTO (AP) — Domingo Germán insisted he only had rosin on his hand, but umpire James Hoye said he felt something stickier on the fingers of the New York Yankees right-hander. Germán was ejected from a game against the Toronto Blue Jays after umpires checked his hands for banned sticky stuff. Germán’s ejection, likely to trigger a 10-game suspension, was the fourth since Major League Baseball started its crackdown on prohibited grip aids two years ago and the second this season. It occurred during the second game of an increasingly acrimonious series between AL East rivals. Aaron Judge was booed during his first two at-bats following allegations of sign stealing Monday.

CHICAGO (AP) — Victor Wembanyama is now set to begin his NBA career with the San Antonio Spurs, after they won the NBA draft lottery and the No. 1 overall pick on Tuesday night. The Spurs were one of three teams with the best odds — 14% — to land the No. 1 pick, which they’ll almost certainly use on Wembanyama. The 7-foot-3 French 19-year-old is one of the most highly touted prospects in NBA history and will be expected to make an immediate impact on the league.

DENVER (AP) — Nikola Jokic's powerful display at both ends of the court propelled the Denver Nuggets past the Los Angeles Lakers 132-126 in the opener of the Western Conference Finals. The Nuggets led by as many as 21 points before the Lakers made a late push before falling short of winning an opener on the road for the third time in these playoffs. Anthony Davis scored 40 points for the Lakers and LeBron James came up one assist shy of a triple double to go with his 26 points and 12 rebounds.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia 76ers fired coach Doc Rivers following a third straight exit in the second round of the playoffs. It was the second time in that span that he lost a series lead and a Game 7. Rivers led the 76ers to their second straight 50-win season behind NBA MVP Joel Embiid but again failed to lead them to the Eastern Conference Finals or beyond. The 76ers held a 3-2 semifinal series lead against Boston before dropping Game 6 at home and were crushed in Game 7 on the road. Rivers fell to 6-10 in Game 7s. He had two years left on his contract. He won the 2008 NBA title as coach of the Boston Celtics.

UNDATED (AP) — The NHL is about to stage a very non-traditional pair of conference finals. Every game will be played in the Sun Belt for the first time. There is not an Original Six franchise in sight. Carolina will take on the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final, with Game 1 on Thursday night. The Dallas Stars and the Golden Knights open the West final Friday night in Las Vegas. Even with Sun Belt teams filling every spot in the finals for the first time, this quartet isn’t new to the playoffs. All have made it to a Stanley Cup Final.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Salvador Perez hit a two-run double in Kansas City's five-run second, Brady Singer pitched six solid innings and the Royals beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 on Tuesday night to snap a four-game losing streak.

The Royals jumped on starter Seth Lugo (3-3) in the second, with Bobby Witt Jr., Nate Eaton and Matt Duffy also driving in runs. Lugo gave up five runs on four hits in his two innings. The Padres have lost eight of 10.

“That was really good for us tonight. That is a great win, you know, against a team like the Padres. They are a really good team,” Perez said. “We scored five runs, and we got the game.”

Singer (3-4) lasted six innings, giving up seven hits and four runs, two of which were earned. Scott Barlow got his fifth save with a scoreless ninth.

"The fastball had really good late movement on it. I was able to move that around the zone. The slider helped me a lot tonight," Singer said. “I think I attacked the zone pretty well tonight.”

San Diego had a defensive highlight in the seventh when Fernando Tatis Jr. threw-out Vinnie Pasquantino trying to go from first to third on a single. After the play Tatis acted like he was putting a pistol back in a holster.

“I wasn't a big fan,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said of the attempt by Pasquantino to take third base. “We know he (Tatis) is super talented in every aspect of the game and throwing is certainly nothing he is lacking.”

The Padres scored two unearned runs in the fifth after consecutive errors by Kansas City’s MJ Melendez and Matt Duffy.

“Those things are going to happen. You just have to make pitches and pick them up,” Singer said of the errors. “That is just part of baseball. ... You have got to be able to overcome that.”

Kansas City reliever Ardolis Chapman pitched the seventh and threw a 104-mph fastball to Jake Cronenworth, which ties the fastest pitch of the 2023 season.

“That's amazing,” Perez said of Champan's feat.

San Diego continues to struggle offensively and had two runners picked off first base in the game.

“It's just a little bit the way we've been playing,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said of his team's losing skid. “It's just not in sync all the way around. You don't expect base-running to cost you."

Royals RHP Max Castillo was optioned to Triple-A Omaha, and RHP Jackson Kowar was called up from Omaha. Kowar had a 7.84 ERA over 20-2/3 innings coming out of the Omaha bullpen this season.

A day after Padres 3B Manny Machado was hit by a pitch on the left hand, he was out of the starting lineup Tuesday. Machado is experiencing soreness and swelling, but X-rays came back negative. It seems likely the Padres will sit Machado as a precaution on Wednesday for the series finale ahead of an off-day Thursday.

Padres RHP Yu Darvish (2-2, 3.16) gets the start to close the three-game series.

NEWTON – After two straight national tournaments of leading wire-to-wire, the No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team faces a deficit after Round 1 of the 2023 NJCAA Division I Championships on Tuesday at Sand Creek Station.

The No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons are 11 strokes off the pace of Indian Hills after 18 holes. The Blue Dragons shot a 1-over-par 289 on Tuesday.

Round 2 of the 72-hole championship is Wednesday at Sand Creek Station. First tee times are set for 7:30 a.m. The Blue Dragons, who are again paired with New Mexico Junior College and Midland College, tee off from 1:20 to 2 p.m.

The Blue Dragons had a strong start, playing the first five holes in 3-under par. Hutchinson then struggled from holes 6 through 14 with 14 bogeys and only four birdies as the Blue Dragons fell nine spots in the team standings to a tie for 12th.

Hutchinson built some momentum for Wednesday and climbed back into the Top 10 with a good finish that included two birdies each from&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/lindstrom_alex_7wqw">Alex Lindstrom</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/saffell_blake_2ov2">Blake Saffell</a>&nbsp;and a&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/galvin_louis_mscz">Louis Galvin</a>&nbsp;birdie. The Dragons played the final four holes in 3-under par to close at 289.

Indian Hills leads the team standings after 18 holes at 10-under 278. Eastern Florida State is second at 281. Western Texas is at 282 and McLennan is fourth at 283.

This is the first time since 2019 that the Blue Dragons have not led the national tournament after a round. After no tournament in 2020 because of the pandemic, the Blue Dragons led the 2021 and 2022 championships after the opening round and never relinquished the lead.

Lindstrom, who on Monday night was named the Phil Mickelson NJCAA Freshman of the Year, led the Blue Dragons with a 3-under-par round of 69. Lindstrom had four birdies and just one bogey in his opening round. Lindstrom closed strong with birdies on Nos. 16 and 28.

Lindstrom is the only Blue Dragon currently in the Top 10, tied for seventh at 3-under par. Lindstrom was one of 32 golfers to shoot under par on Tuesday.

Galvin and fellow freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/anderson_marco_z2pq">Marco Anderson</a>&nbsp;both carded 1-over 73s on Tuesday, which is tied for 46th.

Galvin was 1-under through nine holes, but had three bogeys over the next six holes before a birdie on No. 16 and pars on the final two holes.

Anderson was 2-under through five holes, but had four birdies and five bogeys to finish at 1-over par after the first round.

Saffell was 4-over par through 13 holes, but put together a strong final five holes with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 and a near miss of a birdie on No. 18 to finish at 2-over 74. Saffell is tied for 61st after the opening round.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/clemons_dominic_18vf">Dominic Clemons</a>&nbsp;finished Day 1 with a 4-over 76. Clemons is tied for 85th after 18 holes.

Wallace State's Keith Hunter is the individual leader with a 5-under 67. Six golfers are one stroke off the lead after 68s on Tuesday.

⛳  Blue Dragons 8th after day 1 at NJCAA Championships

McPherson, Kan.&nbsp;— The McPherson Bullpup baseball team won it's ninth straight game, and more importantly advanced to the class 4A state tournament with a 6-2 win over Buhler in the regional championship game.

McPherson got past El Dorado, 14-0 in the regional semifinal before beating their rival in the title game. The Bullpups and Crusaders split their two games in the regular season, Buhler winning the first meeting before McPherson won recent game at home on April 6. The Bullpups advance to their second straight class 4A state tourney with the win on Tuesday.

Buhler loaded the bases with nobody out in the second and would eventually take a 2-0 lead after an inning and a half. McPherson didn't wait long to plate it's first run, as Carter Allen crushed a 3-run double to left field, giving the Pups a 3-2 lead. McPherson plated one more run in the inning and led 4-2 after two complete.

The Bullpups had back-to-back hits in the third, resulting in two more runs and giving the hosts a 6-2 lead. Although Buhler out hit the Bullpups, 8-7, the Bullpups' defense stayed strong and didn't let any more damage happen.

The Crusaders had won their last two meetings against McPherson in regional title games, including 2016 en route to it's state title and in 2018.&nbsp;

⚾ McPherson is state bound, other results from Tuesday's regionals

HESSTON, Kan. — The Hesston Swathers boys golf team made a statement on it's home course on Tuesday, winning the 3A regional title by 18 strokes over Wichita Collegiate at the Hesston Golf Course. 

The Swathers were led by Camden Waterson, who finished 2-over par for a 73 in the 18-hole regional. Palmer Welsh wasn't far behind, carding a 4-over total of 75.

The Hesston Golf Course was a busy place on Tuesday, as the course also hosted the class 4A regional hosted by Buhler. ⛳ Hesston claims title, other results from Tuesday's regionals

LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;— The Kansas football team added a quarterback to it's roster on Monday when Nebraska transfer Mikey Pauley announced his commitment to the Jayhawks on social media.

Pauley was a three-star quarterback out of high school where he led Blue Valley Northwest to a state title on the gridiron in 2021.

The 6-foot-3 and 195-pound quarterback redshirted for the Huskers in his freshman year.

BATH, Mich. - The Kansas State men's golf team put together a score of 3-under par 281 during Monday's opening round of the 2023 NCAA Bath Regional held at the par-71, 7,090-yard Eagle Eye Golf Club. 

The Wildcats are in eighth place among the 13-team field but only two shots out of fifth place as the top five teams in the regional advance to the NCAA Championship. K-State's score of 281 was the second-best team mark for a regional in school history just behind the 280 that the Wildcats recorded in the final round of the 2003 NCAA Central Regional. "I would say it was an okay round. We made quite a few birdies, but we had a couple of big numbers on par 5s that hurt us," head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/coaches/grant-robbins/1886">Grant Robbins</a>&nbsp;said. "Other than that, I thought all five guys were pretty solid. I like where everyone's game is right now. If we can just stay patient and make a few putts, I feel like we can make a big move tomorrow." Junior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/luke-o-neill/9691">Luke O'Neill</a>&nbsp;led the Wildcats on Monday with a 3-under par 68 thanks to five birdies and two bogeys. A product of Connemara, Ireland, O'Neill tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring and tied for 10th in total birdies during the first round. He enters the second round in a tie for 11th place on the individual leaderboard. Joining O'Neill in the top 20 is&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/tim-tillmanns/9694">Tim Tillmanns</a>&nbsp;in a tie for 20th place at 2-under par 69. The senior recorded four birdies and a pair of bogeys over the first 18 holes. Another senior,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/will-hopkins/9688">Will Hopkins</a>, is tied for 30th at 1-under par 70. He went bogey free on the first nine holes with two birdies, but three bogeys compared to two birdies during the second nine dropped him down the leaderboard. Sophomores&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/cooper-schultz/9693">Cooper Schultz</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/nicklaus-mason/9689">Nicklaus Mason</a>&nbsp;are tied for 59th place at 3-over par 74. Mason, a product of Shawnee, Kansas, carded four birdies on the day, but four bogeys and a triple-bogey on No. 18 gave him his final score of 3-over par. Georgia leads the field by six shots thanks to an opening-round score of 18-under par 266. Illinois and host-school Michigan State are tied for second place at 12-under par 272. The Bulldogs have three of the top 11 players on the individual leaderboard and are paced by Ben Van Wyk at 6-under par 65. ⛳ K-State has solid first day of NCAA regional

Beginning next year, high school basketball teams will shoot two free throws for common fouls when in the “bonus.” This change to Rule 4-8-1 eliminates the one-and-one scenario and sets new foul limits each quarter for awarding the bonus free throw.

Rules changes were approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Basketball Rules Committee at its annual meeting April 24-26&nbsp;in Indianapolis. The recommendations were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.

In addition to awarding two foul shots for all common fouls, teams will reach the bonus when their opponent commits five fouls in each quarter and team fouls will reset at the end of each quarter. Previously, teams were awarded the one-and-one bonus when their opponents committed seven fouls in a half and two foul shots when 10 fouls were committed each half.

“The rules committee studied data that showed higher injury rates on rebounding situations and saw this as an opportunity to reduce opportunities for rough play during rebounds,” said Lindsey Atkinson, NFHS Director of Sports and liaison to the Basketball Rules Committee. “Additionally, resetting the fouls each quarter will improve game flow and allow teams to adjust their play by not carrying foul totals to quarters two and four.”

The throw-in procedure for front-court violations was simplified in Rules 7-5-2 through 7-5-5. When the ball is in team control in the offensive team’s frontcourt and the defensive team commits a violation, a common foul prior to the bonus, or the ball becomes dead, the corresponding throw-in by the offensive team will be at one of four designated spots determined by where the infraction took place. The designated spots are either the nearest 28-foot mark along each sideline or the nearest spot 3 feet outside the lane line on the end line. The one exception is when the defensive team causes a ball to be out of bounds, the throw-in shall be the spot where the ball went out of bounds.

Throw-in administration was also addressed in a change to Rule 7-6-6. When an official administers a throw-in to the wrong team, the error can be fixed before the first dead ball after the ball becomes live unless there has been a change in possession.

According to the 2021-22 NFHS High School Athletics Participation Survey, basketball is the third-most popular high school sport for boys with 521,616 participants in 18,428 schools nationwide. It is the fourth-most popular girls sport with 370,466 participants in 17,901 schools.

 <li>Rule 2-1-3 establishes the official placement of a shot clock operator at the scorer’s table for those states utilizing the shot clock.</li><li>Rule 3-4-5 clarifies that multiple styles of uniform bottoms may be worn by teammates, but they must all be like-colored and adhere to uniform rules outlined in Rule 3-6-2 regarding logos and trademarks.</li><li>Rule 3-5-6 addresses undershirts and allows teams to wear a single solid color or solid black for visiting teams with dark jerseys. This provides an opportunity for schools with hard-to-find colors to have all players wear a black undershirt.</li><li>Rule 9-3-3 was amended to allow a player to step out of bounds and return to the court if the player gains no advantage. A player is penalized only if, after returning inbounds, the player is the first to touch the ball or avoids a violation.</li>
