In recent years, they've moved into prominent positions throughout the league with several rising to decision-making executive roles to redraw pro football's hierarchy. From front offices to coaching staffs, the league is finally beginning to mirror society as women get jobs that once went only to men. This season, 223 women are working in full-time coaching or football operations roles in the NFL, a modest jump from 199 last year but a massive 141% gain since 2020.

Jets' Aaron Rodgers still aiming to return to practice around his 40th birthday next month

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Aaron Rodgers hopes to celebrate his 40th birthday by returning to practice. The New York Jets quarterback continues to recover from a torn left Achilles tendon suffered four snaps into his debut with the team on Sept. 11. But Rodgers confirmed Tuesday during his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" he has his sights set on getting back on the field in two weeks and says he's "way ahead of common protocol." The four-time NFL MVP turns 40 on Dec. 2, which Fox Sports reported over the weekend is a target date for Rodgers and he confirmed that.

Loyer scores 27, Purdue pulls away late to beat Tennessee 71-67 in Maui Invitational

Russia and IOC clash at the UN before member states pass Olympic Truce for Paris Games

Russia has clashed with the International Olympic Committee on the floor of the United Nations before 118 member states voted to adopt a traditional truce around the Paris Summer Games next year. Russia voted for the previous Olympic Truce resolution then flagrantly breached it by invading Ukraine four days after the 2022 Beijing Winter Games. The IOC has eased its initially tough stance of excluding Russia from international sports. Some Russian athletes could compete in Paris as neutral individuals with no national identity. Russian diplomat Maria Zabolotskaya says those conditions are "completely unacceptable." She accused the IOC of hypocrisy.

Eight-year-old Rafael Yen considers Messi to be his favorite and asked his father if he could wear an Argentina shirt to the match. Miguel Yen says "I told him to take it easy." Supporters like Rafael don't necessarily want Brazil to lose to Argentina but they want to see the soccer great dribble, shoot and maybe even score.

The No. 22-ranked Blue Dragons closed the non-conference portion of the 2023-24 schedule Tuesday night at the Sports Arena with a 103-54 victory over the Labette Cardinals.&nbsp;

Hutchinson is now 6-1 and will play host to Colby at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the resumption of Jayhawk Conference play at the Sports Arena.&nbsp;

The all-time winner in victories in NJCAA men’s basketball, Hutchinson is now 1,900-637 in a program history that started in the 1928-29 season.&nbsp;

The Blue Dragons dominated from the opening tip, leading the contest for a grand total of 39 minutes, 22 seconds. &nbsp;

The Dragons raced out to a 31-4 lead over the first 7:22 of the game. Hutchinson hit 10 of its first 15 shots, including 6 of its first 8 3-point shot attempts. Edwin Daniel’s fastbreak dunk with 13:38 to play capped the run.&nbsp;

The Blue Dragons shot 54.3 percent in the first half (19 of 35), hitting 8 of 20 from 3-point range to build a 54-21 halftime lead. Hutchinson continued its domination in the second half, outscoring Labette 49-33, shooting a blistering 61.3 percent (19 of 31) in the final 20 minutes.&nbsp;

Hutchinson shot a season-high 57.6 percent from the floor (36 of 66). The Dragons tied a season high with 12 pointers on 32 attempts. Hutchinson was 15 of 18 from the foul line. The Dragons also tied a season high with 25 assists.&nbsp;

Six different Blue Dragon players scored in double figures and eight different Hutchinson players hit 3-pointers in the game.&nbsp;

Sophomores Landon Wagler and Dre Weathers led the Blue Dragons offensively. &nbsp;

Wagler scored a career-high 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting with a pair of 3-point goals. Weathers had 14 points and seven rebounds. &nbsp;

Sophomore Kamryn Thomas hit 3 of 4 3-point goals and finished with 13 points. Thomas is 8 of his last 11 from 3-point range in his last two games.&nbsp;

Valentino Simon, Daniel and Dallas Whitney had 10 points each. Kernan Bundy had eight points, while Zoe Holman, Russell Branch and Kobe Smith had seven points each.&nbsp;

The Blue Dragons outrebounded Labette 38-27. Weathers had a team-high seven rebounds.&nbsp;

Labette shot 38.2 percent (21 of 58), hitting 5 of 14 from 3-point range and 7 of 8 from the foul line. The Cardinals committed 24 turnovers. &nbsp;

Nickhai Howard had 14 points to lead the Cardinals.&nbsp;

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team finished off its non-conference slate with an 80-54 win over Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa on Tuesday evening at the Sports Arena.

No. 15-ranked Hutchinson (7-0, 1-0 KJCCC) had four players score in double figures, led by Journey Armstead with 14. Armstead also dished off four assists and knocked down six-of-eight shot attempts.

Hailey Jackson finished with her second double-double of her freshman campaign, going for 13 points and 10 rebounds. Monae Duffy also tallied 13 points and eight rebounds. Kiki Smith rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points.&nbsp;

The Blue Dragons shot 57 percent from the floor in the first half to open a 51-19 lead after 20 minutes. The 51 points scored were the most scored by Hutchinson in a first half this season, as well as the 32 second-quarter points.

NOC-Tonkawa (1-7) struggled to score the ball in the first half, shooting just 18 percent on 7-of-38. The Mavericks came out strong in the second half and shot 42 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes, while outscoring the Blue Dragons in that stretch, 35-29.

Hutchinson finished 15-of-18 (83%) at the free throw line, the highest percentage in a single-game this season.

The Mavericks were led by Brooke Robertson with 13 points and Kaydrin Scott with 12 points.&nbsp;

The win marked John Ontjes' 250th home win of his career as the head coach of the Blue Dragons.&nbsp;

For the 2023-24 season, the USBWA has expanded its national player of the week program that has been affiliated with the Oscar Robertson Trophy since the 2009-10 season. Kansas’ Frank Mason III was the 2017 Oscar Robertson Trophy recipient. In past seasons, the USBWA has recognized just one player each week. Whether it was penalties, red-zone turnovers or two dropped passes in the closing minutes, the Chiefs (7-3) made the kind of mistakes on offense that have been rare since Andy Reid — who had never lost in four tries against his former team — took over as their coach in 2013 and Patrick Mahomes began his prolific career as their starting quarterback in 2018.

"All season long," Mahomes said, "we haven't played good football in the second half. We've got to continue to work. Obviously, we had a pretty good first half running the football, but we've got to find ways to finish games offensively."

Mahomes was held to 177 yards with two touchdowns and a pick in the end zone. Travis Kelce was his top target, catching seven passes for 44 yards and a score, but he likewise turned the ball over in the red zone with a fourth-quarter fumble.

"Just not playing up to the level I have in the past," Kelce said afterward. "I've got to be better."

Had he held onto the ball, the Chiefs could have turned a 17-14 lead into a two-possession game. Instead, the Eagles went 80 yards the other way, and Hurts tush-pushed his way for the go-ahead touchdown with about six minutes to go.

After the teams traded punts, the Chiefs had one last chance with the ball at their own 9-yard line and 2:49 left. But while that would have been plenty of time in past years, but it seemed no amount would have done them any good Monday night.

Their final series began with a fourth-down conversion, and a roughing-the-passer penalty pushed them near midfield. But then came the letdown: Mahomes had a perfectly-thrown ball to Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a would-be 51-yard touchdown go right through the wide receiver's hands. Then, after Mahomes was called for intentional grounding, he threw one last incompletion on a ball that Justin Watson could have caught that would have kept the Chiefs alive with a first down.

"The game certainly doesn't come down to one play. As much as anybody wants to say that, it doesn't," Watson said. "I've seen Marquez make that play 99 times out of a hundred times. That was just one that he didn't. And he's a phenomenal player and he'll make that for us next week or next time it's called upon."

The final drive was a microcosm of the way the second half went for Kansas City, which had led 17-7 at the break. Its first drive was derailed by a holding penalty on Donovan Smith, its second drive on a false start on Jawaan Taylor and the third nearly was nearly sent off track by a holding call on Kelce, who fumbled the ball away later in the drive anyway.

Standout center Creed Humphrey was also called for a false start that led to another punt later in the fourth quarter.

The result of the red-zone turnovers, the seven penalties for 55 yards and the dropped passes and missed assignments was the Chiefs' second loss in their last three games, one that knocked them from their perch atop the AFC.

"Offensively we're just not where I want to be at his point in the season," Mahomes said. "It starts with me. I have to make better throws at certain times. We have to continue to move the ball downfield and just be more consistent throughout the game."

Sergiño Dest forced the United States to play a man short following a pair of yellow cards in a dispute with the referee and the Americans qualified for next year's Copa América despite a 2-1 loss at Trinidad and Tobago, winning the total-goals series 4-2, Antonee Robinson scored in the 25th minute of the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal and Dest got both yellow cards in the 39th. Trinidad got goals from Reon Moore and Alvin Jones, who also scored in the 2-1 win six years ago that ended the U.S. streak of seven World Cup appearances.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto becomes free agent Tuesday, talks can run through Jan. 4

NEW YORK (AP) — Yoshinobu Yamamoto will become a free agent Tuesday and major league teams can sign him through 5 p.m. EST on Jan. 4. Nippon Professional Baseball notified Major League Baseball that the 25-year-old right-hander's club, the Orix Buffaloes, was posting him for availability to MLB teams. MLB notified the 30 teams of the posting on Monday and under the agreement between MLB and NPB the negotiating period starts at 8 a.m. Tuesday and extends for up to 45 days. Six members of the Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team earned 2023 All-Jayhawk Conference and all Region VI honors on Monday.

Midfielders&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2023-24/bios/edwards_kaitlyn_56gt">Kaitlyn Edwards</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2023-24/bios/wyatt_jayda_vgup">Jayda Wyatt</a>&nbsp;and forward&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2023-24/bios/delgado_adriana_03x3">Adriana Delgado</a>&nbsp;were named to the first team. Goalkeeper&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2023-24/bios/slothower_karsyn_3puo">Karsyn Slothower</a>&nbsp;and forward&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2023-24/bios/marx_katharina_hedq">Katharina Marx</a>&nbsp;were named to the second team and midfield&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2023-24/bios/mayumi_tatiana_l7lq">Tatiana Mayumi</a>&nbsp;was named honorable mention.

The 2023 Blue Dragons finished the season ranked 16th in the final NJCAA Division I national rankings. Hutchinson finished 12-5-3 this past season and was fourth in the Jayhawk Conference with a 9-4-3 record.

KAITLYN EDWARDS – 1st TeamThe freshman midfielder from Wichita tied for the team lead in goals with 13 goals and led the Blue Dragons with 33 points. Edwards also had eight assists and three game-winning goals.

Edwards had three two-goal games this season against Northeastern, Seward County and Barton. She had a season-high five points in a two-goal, one assist game against Seward County on August 26.

JAYDA WYATT – 1st TeamThe sophomore from Wichita had eight goals and four assists this season. She registered her only game-winning goal against Coffeyville on October 11.

Wyatt had a pair of two-goal games against Seward County and Coffeyville.

ADRIANA DELGADO – 1st TeamThe sophomore from Wichita is a two-time all-conference performer for the Blue Dragons. Delgado earned second-team honors as a freshman.

Delgado tied for team-high honors with 13 goals and was third in points scored with 32. Delgado had six assists and two game-winning goals.

Delgado had a career-high four goals and nine points in a 10-0 victory over Crowder on September 2. She then scored perhaps the most important single goal of the season when she scored the game-tying goal with 5 minutes to play in a 1-1 tie against nationally ranked Butler on September 6 at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

KARSYN SLOTHOWER – 2nd TeamThe freshman from Maize put together one of the best single seasons for a Blue Dragon goalkeeper in program history.

The Blue Dragon keeper had 14 saves in a 1-0 victory over Barton on September 13. She had five games of seven or more saves this season.

KATHARINA MARX – 2nd TeamThe freshman from Saarbrucken, Germany had 12 goals, nine assists and 33 points this season.

Marx had a goal and three assists in her Blue Dragon debut against Northeastern on August 20. She had a pair of two-goal games against Crowder and Garden City.

TATIANA MAYUMI – Honorable MentionA sophomore transfer from Sao Paulo, Brazil had two goals and five assists this season. Mayumi was also solid on the defensive end of the field.

HONOLULU (AP) —&nbsp;Kevin McCullar Jr. recorded the program’s first back-to-back triple-double performance and Hunter Dickinson had 31 points and 11 rebounds as No. 1 Kansas beat Chaminade 83-56 in the first-round game of the Maui Invitational on Monday.

The Jayhawks (4-0) led throughout and shot a blistering 60.0 percent from the field. They held the Silverswords (1-3) to 33.9 percent shooting.

Chaminade, a Division II school in Honolulu with an enrollment of 2,342 students, was unable to muster an upset against the nation’s top-ranked team, as it did nearly 41 years ago against Ralph Sampson-led Virginia.

Dickinson, a 7-foot-2 Michigan transfer and AP Preseason All-American, made 15 of his 18 shots from the field. Kevin McCullar Jr. had 22 points and 11 rebounds with 10 assists, three steals and two blocks. Dajuan Harris Jr. added seven points, eight assists and four rebounds.

Jamir Thomas, Ross Reeves and Wyatt Lowell scored 12 points apiece for Chaminade.

Kansas scored 58 points in the paint compared to 22 for Chaminade, and also had the edge in fast-break points, 27-6.

BIG PICTURE As expected, Kansas showcased its talent-rich roster against an overmatched Chaminade team, but it did not come without some adversity. It held a 21-9 lead about midway through the first half, but saw the Silverswords go on a 9-2 run over the next four-plus minutes to cut it to 25-20 at the 6:22 mark. That led Kansas coach Bill Self to call a timeout. His team responded with a 14-5 run.

Chaminade has won eight games all-time in the Maui Invitational, with its last win coming against Cal, 96-72, in 2017.

UP NEXT Kansas: Advances to the tournament semifinals Tuesday to face either UCLA or No. 4 Marquette.

Chaminade: Will play either the Bruins or Golden Eagles in a consolation game Tuesday.

The No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College football team starts it postseason road at Gowans Stadium for the second-straight season.

The Jayhawk Conference champion Blue Dragons (10-0) will play No. 4 East Mississippi (9-2) in the NJCAA Division I national semifinals at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 2 at Gowans Stadium.

No. 2 Iowa Western (10-1) will play No. 3 Kilgore (9-1) in the other national semifinal at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 3 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The winners will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday December 13 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Blue Dragons rolled through the Jayhawk Conference season undefeated and clinched a second-straight unbeaten regular season with a 42-28 victory over No. 2 Iowa Western on November 11 at Gowans Stadium.

The Blue Dragons lead the nation in scoring defense at 10.2 points per game. They also lead the NJCAA in rushing defense at 53.5 yards allowed per game.

Hutchinson has KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/brown_daniel_a1x7">Daniel Brown</a>&nbsp;headlining the defensive unit. Brown leads the nation in quarterback sacks with 17.5 sacks. East Mississippi rolls into the national semifinals on a seven-game winning streak, including three victories in the Mississippi Community College Athletic Conference playoffs. EMCC defeated previous No. 3 Copiah Lincoln 27-20 in the MCCAC championship game on Saturday to earn a spot in the semifinals. The Lions vaulted over Snow College into the No. 4 spot in the poll.

EMCC has the fourth-highest scoring offense in the NJCAA at 38.3 points per game. The Lions are fourth in total offense at 425.5 yards per game. Quarterback Ty Keyes leads the NJCAA with 29 touchdown passes, and he's second in passing at 268.6 yards per game.

Defensively, East Mississippi is allowing 19.7 points and 318.2 total yards per game.

Hutchinson will be making its 27th all-time football postseason appearance. The Blue Dragons are 16-8-2 all-time in NJCAA postseason bowl or playoff games.

EMCC will be playing in the four-team playoff – instituted by the NJCAA before the 2021 season – for the first time. East Mississippi will be making its second-ever trip to Kansas. The Lions defeated Garden City 10-9 in the 2018 NJCAA Championship game at Carnie-Smith Stadium in Pittsburg. East Mississippi has won NJCAA national titles in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2018.

The semifinal matchup will be the first game ever played between Hutchinson and East Mississippi. The game will be only the second time ever that the Blue Dragons play a team from Mississippi. The last time was the 2021 Salt City Bowl when Hutchinson defeated Hinds 66-34 on December 4, 2021 at Gowans Stadium.

The Blue Dragons are the No. 1 seed in the Division I national playoff for the second-straight season. Last year, the Blue Dragons rolled into the national championship game with a 38-7 semifinal victory over Coffeyville in the semifinals at Gowans Stadium. The Dragons then fell to Iowa Western in the 2022 championship game in Little Rock.

The Dragons bid for their third birth in the national championship game. Hutchinson won its only football national championship with a 29-27 victory over Snow College on June 5, 2021 at Little Rock.

Hutchinson has now been ranked in 32 consecutive NJCAA rankings, the third-longest consecutive run in the national poll in program history. The Blue Dragons were ranked in 45-straight polls from 2010 to 2013 and in 38 consecutive polls from 2018 to 2021.

The Blue Dragons have been ranked at No. 1 for 12 consecutive weeks.

MANHATTAN, Kansas –&nbsp;For the fifth time in her career, K-State center&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/ayoka-lee/11193">Ayoka Lee</a>&nbsp;has been named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week.

Lee joins Nicole Ohlde (7) and Kendra Wecker (7) as the only Wildcats in program history with five or more Big 12 Player of the Week honors. When including her Big 12 record 12 Freshman of the Week recognitions from the 2019-20 season, Lee has received 17 Big 12 weekly honors during her K-State career.

The product of Byron, Minnesota, helped the Wildcats to a 2-0 week, including a win at second-ranked Iowa on Thursday and a home win over Wisconsin on Sunday.

In the two games, Lee averaged 21 points on a .600 field goal percentage, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.0 steals and 0.5 assists.
