<a>MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–</a>&nbsp;Kansas State junior&nbsp;Ben Sinnott&nbsp;is one of nine players in the nation to be named a semifinalist for the 2023 John Mackey Award, the award’s committee announced.

Sinnott is the first player in school history to be named a semifinalist for the award that goes to nation’s most outstanding tight end. He is joined on this year’s list by AJ Barner (Michigan), Brock Bowers (Georgia), Dallin Holker (Colorado State), Theo Johnson (Penn State), Bryson Nesbit (North Carolina), Ja’Tavion Sanders (Texas), Cade Stover (Ohio State) and Jack Velling (Oregon State).

A product of Waterloo, Iowa, Sinnott ranks third nationally among tight ends with 540 receiving yards this season, while he is seventh in receptions (39) and tied for ninth in touchdowns (5). His 39 catches this year are the most in school history by a tight end, and his five touchdown receptions are tied for the most. He is also just 55 yards shy of the most receiving yards by a tight end in school history, a mark of 595 yards that is currently set by Russ Campbell in 1991.

This year’s production is a continuation from the 2022 season as Sinnott has the second-most career touchdowns catches by a tight end in school history (9) and the third-most catches (72). During K-State’s 31-27 win last week at Kansas, Sinnott became the fourth tight end in school history to eclipse the 1,000-yard receiving mark for a career as he enters Saturday’s regular-season finale with 1,002 yards.

Kansas State, ranked No. 19 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25, hosts Iowa State on Saturday in a 7 p.m., contest inside Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The game, which serves as Senior Day, will be shown on FOX.

Hutchinson Community College volleyball sophomores&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/ravenhani_giovanna_k9db">Giovanna Ravanhani</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/dean_anna_0g77">Anna Dean</a>&nbsp;announced their decisions of four-year schools at a signing ceremony on Monday at the Sports Arena.

Ravanhani signed to play at Division II Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina. Dean will play next season at Pittsburg State University.

Both Ravanhani and Dean were mainstays for the Blue Dragons this season as Hutchinson went 24-15 and finished in a second-place tie in the Jayhawk Conference.

This season, the 6-foot setter from Sao Paulo, Brazil averaged 8.72 assists per set. She had a team-high 58 service aces. Ravanhani hit .230 with 102 kills. She also averaged 1.90 digs per set.

Her 1,265 assists this season were fifth most in Blue Dragon single-season history. Her 8.72 assists per set are ninth most in single-season history. She had six double doubles.

Ravanhani had 1,664 career assists, which is seventh most in Blue Dragon career history.

Ravanhani was a second-team all-Jayhawk Conference performer this season.

Ravanhani is the first Blue Dragon volleyball player to sign with Newberry College.

Dean is a 6-1 middle blocker from Oswego, Kansas, who was a first-team all-KJCCC selection this season.

Dean was second in the NJCAA in total blocks with 162 and she averaged 1.18 blocks per set, which ranked 11th in Blue Dragon single-season history. Dean had 17 matches with five ore more blocks. She tied her career single-game high of eight blocks four times this season.

Offensively, Dean hit .336, which ranked No. 12 in the nation. With 329 total kills, Dean averaged 2.40 kills per set. She also had 45 aces this season.

Dean's 162 total blocks ranked 12th on the Hutchinson single-season. Her 273 career blocks rank seventh on the career blocks list.

Dean is the first Blue Dragon to sign with Pittsburg State since Jordan Rehm in 2011. Molly Bergkamp signed with the Gorillas in 2008.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Browns are signing former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Joe Flacco to their practice squad. That's according to a person familiar with the decision who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Browns hadn't announced the imminent move. The person says Flacco will finalize a contract on Monday. Bringing him in bolsters Cleveland's quarterback depth after Deshaun Watson was lost for the season with a shoulder fracture. Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson's started Sunday's 13-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 38-year-old Flacco led a comeback by the Jets to beat the Browns last season.

Cowboys' DaRon Bland matches NFL record with 4th pick-6 this season, wants another with 7 games left

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland knew coming into Sunday's game he needed one more pick-6 to etch his name into the NFL record books. Now he wants the record all to himself. Bland intercepted No. 1 pick Bryce Young in the fourth quarter and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown, tying an NFL record with his fourth pick-6 of the season. Only three others — Philadelphia's Eric Allen in 1993, Kansas City's Jim Kearney in 1972 and Houston's Ken Houston in 1971 — have accomplished that feat. NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Tournament MVP Nijel Pack scored 20 of his 28 points in the first half against his former school, and No. 12 Miami topped Kansas State 91-83 on Sunday to win the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas championship.

Norchad Omier scored 23 for the Hurricanes (5-0), who are essentially assured of tying a school record by being in the AP Top 25 for the 17th consecutive week when the new poll comes out Monday. Miami also had a run of 17 consecutive appearances in the 2015-16 season.

Wooga Poplar and Matthew Cleveland each scored 15 for Miami.

“It was so much fun for me,” Pack said. “We all came out ready to play. It was a really good game for us.”

Cam Carter scored 28 points — 24 in the second half — and Arthur Kaluma had 18 points and 12 rebounds for Kansas State (3-2), which fell to 0-2 against ranked opponents this season. The Wildcats started the year with a loss to then-No. 21 USC in Las Vegas.

Tylor Perry and David N'Guessan had 10 apiece for Kansas State, which trailed by as many as 24 early in the second half but outscored Miami 30-16 over the final 6 1/2 minutes.

“That's the character of our team," Kansas State coach Jerome Tang said. “I'm very, very proud of them for the second half.”

The difference was 3-point shooting — Miami was 12 of 24 from beyond the arc, Kansas State just 4 of 28. Pack's seven 3's tied his best in a Miami uniform; he had eight on two occasions while playing for the Wildcats.

“I think everybody knows that Nijel was probably extremely well motivated because he had been a player for the Kansas State Wildcats," Miami coach Jim Larrañaga said.

Pack spent his first two college seasons at Kansas State, averaging 15.3 points and 2.9 assists in 53 games there. He transferred before last season, helped the Hurricanes reach the Final Four and is now three makes shy of 100 3-pointers at Miami.

“He was always a really good player. ... I thought we did a better job on him in the second half, but first half, he was pretty special,” Tang said.

Pack's seventh 3-pointer on Sunday gave Miami a 73-51 lead with 7:17 left. That cushion got cut down considerably in the next few minutes.

Kansas State outscored Miami 19-4 over a 4-minute stretch of the second half, getting within 79-70 on a jumper by Carter with 2:48 remaining. Carter had 11 of Kansas State's points during that spurt.

But Miami would hang on. Cleveland had a putback tip-in to give Miami an 11-point lead with 2:26 left and Omier had the next eight points for the Hurricanes — who matched their best start since the 2018-19 season. It’s the fifth time in Larrañaga's 13-year tenure at Miami that the Hurricanes have opened a season 5-0 or better.

“I'm most pleased that we're 5-0,” Larrañaga said. “The teams we've played are good.”

Kansas State: The Wildcats had won eight consecutive games against Division I teams from the state of Florida until last March, when they lost to Florida Atlantic in the Elite Eight — and now, they've lost to Miami as well. Their next game against a team from the Sunshine State is Jan. 6, when they open Big 12 play against UCF.

Miami: It was the first game of the season in which the Hurricanes didn't have a run of at least 10 consecutive unanswered points. They didn't need one — a pair of 7-0 runs in the opening minutes built a 15-4 lead, and an 8-0 run early in the second half pushed Miami's edge to 57-33.

The tournament announced the field for the 2024 Baha Mar event. It'll be Virginia, Baylor, St. John's and Tennessee.

Kansas State: Host Central Arkansas on Wednesday.

Miami: Visit Kentucky on Nov. 28 in the ACC-SEC challenge.

🏀 Pack scores 28 against former team,0 No. 12 Miami tops Kansas State for Bahamas title

HUTCHINSON, Kan.-#1 seed Florida SouthWestern State (FL) defeated #3 seed Miami Dade (FL) for the 2023 NJCAA D1 Women's Championship 3 games to 1 on Saturday night at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson.

With Sunflower State ties,&nbsp;FSW Head Coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen is the former head coach of Seward County in Liberal. Allen also coached high School volleyball at Liberal High School.

In a rematch of the 2022 championship title game, the No. 1 Buccaneers defeated third-seeded Miami Dade (FL) 3-1 to win the match.  This marks the second consecutive national title for Florida SouthWestern in the program’s fifth season of existence.  The Bucs become just the fifth team in NJCAA Division I Volleyball history to win back-to-back national titles. 

Florida SouthWestern concluded the season with a 31-1 record and an 8-game win streak. The Buccaneers’ only loss of the season was to Miami Dade in a five-set contest on October 21.

Miami Dade won the first set 25-19 to kick off the 2023 NJCAA DI Volleyball Championship title game.

Florida SouthWestern stormed back to take the next three sets 25-16, 25-19, and 25-18.

In the championship, the Sharks compiled 51 kills, 48 assists, and 69 digs. The Buccaneers had 57 kills, 52 assists, and 53 digs.  

The 2024 NJCAA D1 Women's Volleyball Championship will take place in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Cedar Falls was the site of this years DII and DIII event.

9th place - #13 Indian Hills (IA) defeated&nbsp;#14 Casper (WY) 25-22. 25-22, 25-17.

7th place - #9 College of Southern Idaho (ID) defeated #6 Weatherford College (TX) 25-21. 21-25, 25-19, 25-17.

5th place - #2 Northeastern (CO) defeated #4 Salt Lake (UT) 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19.

3rd place - #7 Navarro College (TX) defeated #5 Trinity Valley (TX) 25-19. 25-16. 25-16.

🏐 WVB: NJCAA D1 Volleyball Championship Saturday results

HUTCHINSON, Kan.- The NJCAA National Championship trophy will reside in the white sand beaches of Southwestern Florida for at least one more year as the #1 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers won their second straight NJCAA National Championship on Saturday night in Hutchinson, Kansas, shaking off a slow start to defeat their rivals and 3rd&nbsp;ranked Miami Dade 3-1 to complete the back to back against the Sharks.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In a rematch of the 2022 title game, the Bucs got off to a slow start against the Sharks as it was Miami Dade jumping out to a 9-4 advantage to begin the ballgame. The Bucs worked their way back into things with a 4-0 run midway through the set, but the Sharks pushed forward once again, extending their lead back to five at 18-13 later in the set. FSW cut the Miami Dade lead to four twice, but couldn't get any closer as the Sharks closed them out 25-19 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.&nbsp; The Bucs had a hard time slowing down the Shark attack as Miami Dade hit .419 with 16 kills in the set while FSW had 12 kills and hit .300.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The second had a different script. FSW came out swinging with kills from&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/gasparini_sara_3tap">Sara Gasparini</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/boledovicova_nina_rjxw">Nina Boledovicova</a>&nbsp;to begin the period and moments later back to back kills from&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/zibecchi_victoria_48zv">Victoria Zibecchi</a>&nbsp;made it 9-4 Bucs. The Sharks got back to within three midway through the set before a 4-0 FSW run highlighted by a pair of Boledovicova kills and another from setter&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/purashaj_roberta_ci3l">Roberta Purashaj</a>made it 16-9 Bucs later in the set. The Bucs never let the Sharks get close again as Boledovicova continued a huge second set with a kill to get it to set point for FSW and then put away her sixth kill of the set to close it out as the Bucs took it 25-16 to level the match at a set a piece. The Bucs offense was cooking in the period as they finished with 16 kills at a .361 clip while holding Miami Dade to just a .185 mark.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In a key third set, neither side wanted to give an inch and after 20 points, the two were knotted at 10. Purashaj found Zibecchi on the right side to break the tie and put the Bucs up and moments later&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/alarcon_alondra_78aw">Alondra Alarcon</a>&nbsp;tooled the block to make it a three point game in favor of FSW at 17-14. Every time Miami Dade tried to make a push, the Bucs had an answer.&nbsp; A big block from&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/collier_izzy_81vv">Izzy Collier</a>and Zibecchi made it 22-17 FSW and a ball handling error by the Sharks sealed their fate as the Bucs claimed a 25-19 third set win to take a 2-1 lead in the match.&nbsp;

The fourth was close again early on until a pair of Boledovicova kills sandwiched around a Purashaj to Gasparini hook up gave FSW a 9-8 advantage. After the Sharks retook the lead momentarily, a 4-0 run by the Bucs put them back on top 14-10 midway through the set.&nbsp; Miami Dade got the next two to cut the Bucs lead in half, but three straight Shark errors padded the FSW lead back to 17-12.&nbsp; With Shark blood in the water, the Bucs began to smell the finish line as Purashaj and Collier combined on a block to make it 21-13 and three rotations later it was Boledovicova and Zibecchi in on one of their own to give FSW seven cracks at Championship point. Miami Dade fought off the first two chances, but the third time was a charm for the Purple and Aqua as Gasparini went off the block for a kill and the celebration began for the Bucs as FSW took the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.&nbsp;

The Bucs finished an outstanding offensive season with 57 kills and a .292 hitting percentage in the Championship Game win.&nbsp; Zibecchi closed out an unbelievable tournament with 15 kills and just 1 error on 41 swings while Boledovicova put together a career game with 14 kills and 0 errors on 23 attacks, good for a .609 hitting mar.&nbsp; Alarcon put a bow on her outstanding FSW career with 14 kills and 13 digs, giving the sophomore 10 or more kills in all 8 career games at the National Tournament.&nbsp; Purashaj ran the Bucs offense to near perfection once again, distributing 46 assists to go over 1,900 for her FSW career.&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/marzella_anna_nd4b">Anna Marzella</a>&nbsp;finished her rookie season with 17 digs giving her her three top dig performances of the season in the National Tournament Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and National Championship Game.

At tournament's end, the trio of Alarcon, Zibecchi, and Purashaj were named to the All-Tournament Team. Alarcon finished with double digit kills in all four games, totaling 46 for the tournament while also adding 38 digs and 7 aces. Zibecchi had a monster week, racking up 53 kills and making just 2 errors to hit an eye popping .455 hitting percentage in the four wins. Purashaj was named the Tournament MVP after quarterbacking the Bucs offense to nearly 15 kills per set on the week. She dished out 153 assists in her 13 sets played while also chipping in 27 digs, 8 kills, and 5 blocks. Joining the trio on the stage was FSW Head Coach Thais Baziquetto-Allenwho was named the Heidi Cartisser Coach of the Tournament for the second straight year.

FSW wins their second straight NJCAA National Championship, becoming just the fifth team in NJCAA Division I history to accomplish the feat.&nbsp; The Bucs finish the season 31-1, making them 58-2 in their back to back National Championship seasons.&nbsp; Miami Dade sees their season end at 23-6 and with a runner-up finish for the second straight year to the Bucs.&nbsp;

 </figure>In a rematch of the 2022 title game, the Bucs got off to a slow start against the Sharks as it was Miami Dade jumping out to a 9-4 advantage to begin the ballgame. The Bucs worked their way back into things with a 4-0 run midway through the set, but the Sharks pushed forward once again, extending their lead back to five at 18-13 later in the set. FSW cut the Miami Dade lead to four twice, but couldn't get any closer as the Sharks closed them out 25-19 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.&nbsp; The Bucs had a hard time slowing down the Shark attack as Miami Dade hit .419 with 16 kills in the set while FSW had 12 kills and hit .300.&nbsp;&nbsp;The second had a different script. FSW came out swinging with kills from&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/gasparini_sara_3tap">Sara Gasparini</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/boledovicova_nina_rjxw">Nina Boledovicova</a>&nbsp;to begin the period and moments later back to back kills from&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/zibecchi_victoria_48zv">Victoria Zibecchi</a>&nbsp;made it 9-4 Bucs. The Sharks got back to within three midway through the set before a 4-0 FSW run highlighted by a pair of Boledovicova kills and another from setter&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/purashaj_roberta_ci3l">Roberta Purashaj</a>made it 16-9 Bucs later in the set. The Bucs never let the Sharks get close again as Boledovicova continued a huge second set with a kill to get it to set point for FSW and then put away her sixth kill of the set to close it out as the Bucs took it 25-16 to level the match at a set a piece. The Bucs offense was cooking in the period as they finished with 16 kills at a .361 clip while holding Miami Dade to just a .185 mark.&nbsp;&nbsp;In a key third set, neither side wanted to give an inch and after 20 points, the two were knotted at 10. Purashaj found Zibecchi on the right side to break the tie and put the Bucs up and moments later&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/alarcon_alondra_78aw">Alondra Alarcon</a>&nbsp;tooled the block to make it a three point game in favor of FSW at 17-14. Every time Miami Dade tried to make a push, the Bucs had an answer.&nbsp; A big block from&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/collier_izzy_81vv">Izzy Collier</a>and Zibecchi made it 22-17 FSW and a ball handling error by the Sharks sealed their fate as the Bucs claimed a 25-19 third set win to take a 2-1 lead in the match.&nbsp;The fourth was close again early on until a pair of Boledovicova kills sandwiched around a Purashaj to Gasparini hook up gave FSW a 9-8 advantage. After the Sharks retook the lead momentarily, a 4-0 run by the Bucs put them back on top 14-10 midway through the set.&nbsp; Miami Dade got the next two to cut the Bucs lead in half, but three straight Shark errors padded the FSW lead back to 17-12.&nbsp; With Shark blood in the water, the Bucs began to smell the finish line as Purashaj and Collier combined on a block to make it 21-13 and three rotations later it was Boledovicova and Zibecchi in on one of their own to give FSW seven cracks at Championship point. Miami Dade fought off the first two chances, but the third time was a charm for the Purple and Aqua as Gasparini went off the block for a kill and the celebration began for the Bucs as FSW took the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.&nbsp;The Bucs finished an outstanding offensive season with 57 kills and a .292 hitting percentage in the Championship Game win.&nbsp; Zibecchi closed out an unbelievable tournament with 15 kills and just 1 error on 41 swings while Boledovicova put together a career game with 14 kills and 0 errors on 23 attacks, good for a .609 hitting mar.&nbsp; Alarcon put a bow on her outstanding FSW career with 14 kills and 13 digs, giving the sophomore 10 or more kills in all 8 career games at the National Tournament.&nbsp; Purashaj ran the Bucs offense to near perfection once again, distributing 46 assists to go over 1,900 for her FSW career.&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/marzella_anna_nd4b">Anna Marzella</a>&nbsp;finished her rookie season with 17 digs giving her her three top dig performances of the season in the National Tournament Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and National Championship Game.<figure>

Alarcon finished with double digit kills in all four games, totaling 46 for the tournament while also adding 38 digs and 7 aces. Zibecchi had a monster week, racking up 53 kills and making just 2 errors to hit an eye popping .455 hitting percentage in the four wins. Purashaj was named the Tournament MVP after quarterbacking the Bucs offense to nearly 15 kills per set on the week. She dished out 153 assists in her 13 sets played while also chipping in 27 digs, 8 kills, and 5 blocks. Florida State QB Jordan Travis carted off after injury to left leg against North Alabama

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis was carted off the field after suffering what appeared to be a serious injury to his left leg late in the first quarter of the fourth-ranked Seminoles game against North Alabama. Travis, a Heisman Trophy contender, was tackled after a scramble to about midfield and his leg was caught underneath a defender. Travis immediately pointed to his left leg and medical staff rushed onto the field. Travis was helped up, putting no weight on his leg, and both teams came out on to the field as he was placed on the cart with an air cast on his left leg. Florida State coach Mike Norvell did not have an update on Travis' condition after the Seminoles' 58-13 win.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Michael Penix Jr. threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and No. 5 Washington remained undefeated and clinched a spot in the Pac-12 championship game with a 22-20 victory over No. 10 Oregon State on Saturday. It was the final Pac-12 game at Reser Stadium as the conference currently stands. The Pac-12 collapsed over the summer, leaving Oregon State and Washington State as the lone remaining teams. Rome Odunze caught seven passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns for the Huskies, who have won 18 straight games.

Beck throws for 298 yards, 3 TDs to lead No. 1 Georgia over No. 21 Tennessee 38-10

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Carson Beck threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 1 Georgia over No. 21 Tennessee 38-10. Dillon Bell caught five passes for 90 yards and a touchdown, and also threw an 18-yard TD pass to Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint for the Bulldogs (10-0, 8-0 Southeastern Conference). Rosemy-Jacksaint caught seven passes for 91 yards and two TDs. Georgia became the first team to go unbeaten in the SEC three years in a row since the league went to an eight-game schedule in 1992.

No. 2 Michigan escapes with 31-24 win over Maryland for 1,000th victory in program history

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Blake Corum scored twice in the first half, Mike Sainristil intercepted two passes, and No. 2 Michigan became the first college football program to win 1,000 games, beating Maryland 31-24. The Wolverines played again without suspended coach Jim Harbaugh, who will also be away from the sideline for next weekend's showdown against No. 3 Ohio State. Maryland rallied from a 23-3 second-quarter deficit and several chances to take the lead. Taulia Tagovailoa was called for intentional grounding in the end zone late in the fourth quarter and the safety helped Michigan seal it.

Appalachian State ends unbeaten run by No. 18 James Madison 26-23 in overtime

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Kaedin Robinson barely broke the goal line with the football before it squirted out of his hands, scoring the winning touchdown in overtime as Appalachian State beat previously unbeaten and 18th-ranked James Madison 26-23. James Madison jumped ahead in overtime when Camden Wise booted a 25-yard field goal, giving the Dukes a 23-20 lead. But on third down from the 8 yard line, Appalachian State's Joey Aguilar tossed a strike to Robinson, who made the catch at the 5 and broke two tackles before stepping on the goal line for the winning TD just before losing the ball. The loss ended James Madison 13-game winning streak.

Tiger Woods to play in the Bahamas, his first competition since the Masters

Tiger Woods is making yet another return to competition. He says he will be playing in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas that starts Nov. 30. It will be his first time playing since the Masters in April. He withdrew after the third round and then had surgery on his right ankle. The injury stemmed from his February 2021 car crash. Woods has said his ankle no longer has pain, but it's the area around it that can cause problems. He'll be playing 72 holes in a holiday event that has no cut.

Adam Johnson's UK team retires his jersey number after the American player's skate-cut death

NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) — The English hockey team that American Adam Johnson played for has retired his No. 47 jersey as part of a memorial game in his honor. Nottingham Panthers players appeared to be wearing neck guards, too. The Panthers hadn't played since their Oct. 28 game in which Johnson's neck was cut by the skate of an opposing player. Saturday's game was a low-intensity affair that ended in a 4-4 tie. The game doesn't count in the standings. Instead, it was meant to bring players and fans together as they try to move forward. The death of Johnson, a 29-year-old former Pittsburgh Penguins player from Minnesota, forced the sport to reexamine safety regulations and sparked a criminal investigation that led to an arrest of a man on suspicion of manslaughter.

Milan Lucic is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the Bruins after an undisclosed incident

BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Bruins say Milan Lucic is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team after an incident Friday night. The Bruins in a statement released Saturday did not provide any details about the incident other than to say the organization takes matters such as these very seriously. The team said it would work with Lucic's family to provide any support and assistance needed. Boston Police said it could neither confirm nor deny arresting Lucic early Saturday morning. Lucic is a 35-year-old veteran of over 1,300 NHL games. He won the Stanley Cup with Boston in 2011 and is back with the team after signing a one-year free agent contract last summer.

Remaining schedule and Burrow's injury provide daunting challenge if Bengals want to make playoffs

Even before Joe Burrow's season-ending wrist injury was announced, the Cincinnati Bengals already were facing a challenging road in trying to get back to the playoffs for a third straight season. Without Burrow, that might be too big of a hill to climb. Thursday night's 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens evened the Bengals' record at 5-5. When Jake Browning walks into the complex on Monday to begin preparations for the Nov. 26 game against Pittsburgh, it will be for a team that is only one game out of wild-card spot. However, the Bengals are an AFC-worst 1-5 in conference games and are winless in their three division matchups. Cincinnati's six remaining opponents — it plays the Steelers twice — are .500 or better.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Will Howard threw two touchdown passes and ran for the go-ahead score, and No. 23 Kansas State took advantage of two special teams blunders by rival Kansas as the Wildcats rallied to beat the Jayhawks 31-27 on Saturday night for their 15th straight win in the Sunflower Showdown.

D.J. Giddens added 102 yards rushing and a score for the reigning Big 12 champions, who kept alive their chances of defending the title in part by turning a blocked extra point into a 2-point return and a muffed punt into the go-ahead TD with 10:22 to go.

The Wildcats (8-3, 6-2, No. 21 CFP) allowed Kansas (7-4, 4-4, No. 25) to march right back down the field, led by former walk-on Cole Ballard under center. But the Jayhawks' drive stalled at the Kansas State 11, and Ballard was picked off in the end zone by Marques Sigle on fourth down to turn the ball over with just more than five minutes left.

Howard and Giddens picked up first downs on the ground to keep the clock running, and Howard hit Philip Brooks on third-and-7 with about two minutes to go — the catch near the sideline stood after a review — to wrap up the victory.

Ballard threw for 162 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Devin Neal, who took direct snaps for much of the game, finished with 138 yards rushing and three touchdowns for the Jayhawks.

The latest edition of the fourth-longest played series in the FBS started off like many of the previous 14: Kansas State hit on a couple of deep throws, then Howard found Ben Sinnott in the back of the end zone for a touchdown just over a minute into the game.

But that all-too-familiar script quickly went in another direction.

Ballard, starting in place of injured Jalon Daniels and Jason Bean, led three long touchdown drives that soaked up the first-half clock and kept the Wildcats' offense off the field. Neal finished the first when he slipped out of VJ Payne's tackle and ran 36 yards, then the second with a nine-yard run, before Ballard hit Lawrence Arnold just before halftime for a 20-16 lead.

The lead should have been larger, but the Jayhawks had an extra point blocked by Nate Matlack. The deflection was caught by receiver-turned-cornerback Keenan Garber, who returned it 91 yards for the 2-point conversion.

Kansas opened the second half with Ballard hitting Mason Fairchild for 59 yards and Neal adding his third TD run two plays later. But the Wildcats answered with a long drive of their own, twice converting on third down, opening a lane for Giddens to get into the end zone, and converting the 2-point try to get within 27-24 heading to the fourth quarter.

That's when the Jayhawks' Trevor Wilson fumbled a punt that he was trying to catch on a dead run. The Wildcats took over near midfield, converted a crucial third down and then opened a lane for Howard for the go-ahead score.

Kansas State found a way to win despite an uneven effort by Howard, too many penalties and a defense that struggled to contain Neal on the ground.

Giddens added 102 yards rushing and a score for the reigning Big 12 champions, who kept alive their chances of defending the title in part by turning a blocked extra point into a 2-point return and a muffed punt into the go-ahead TD with 10:22 to go.The Wildcats (8-3, 6-2, No. 21 CFP) allowed Kansas (7-4, 4-4, No. 25) to march right back down the field, led by former walk-on Cole Ballard under center. But the Jayhawks' drive stalled at the Kansas State 11, and Ballard was picked off in the end zone by Marques Sigle on fourth down to turn the ball over with just more than five minutes left.Howard and Giddens picked up first downs on the ground to keep the clock running, and Howard hit Philip Brooks on third-and-7 with about two minutes to go — the catch near the sideline stood after a review — to wrap up the victory.<figure>

His counterpart, Tino Simon, shot 7-for-11 and scored 18 points.

Hutchinson (5-1, 1-0) put up the first five points of the game and led by 13 with 6:24 left in the first half.

Dodge City (2-5, 0-1) cut that lead to eight before a buzzer-beater layup by Zoe Holman put Hutchinson up 10 at the half.

Dodge City pulled within five with 11:14 remaining before the Dragons closed the door for good.

Hutchinson matched its largest lead of the game at 13 with 3:13 to go before the fifth Thomas triple pushed the advantage to 14 with 1:53 left.

DODGE CITY, Kan. — No. 22 Hutchinson (6-0, 1-0) rallied from a 10-point deficit with 3:21 left to hand No. 11 Dodge City (6-1, 0-1) its first loss of the season.

The Dragons trailed by as many as 14 in the third quarter before pulling within two with 4:49 left on an Akaysha Muggeridge three.

Dodge City answered with eight-straight points, five from point guard Paris Santacaterina, who finished the day with 24 points on 10-of-26 shooting.

Journey Armstead and Kiki Smith hit back-to-back threes to pull Hutchinson within 68-64.

Armstead hit just one of her eight attempts from distance, but her three with less than three minutes to play sparked a Dragon 14-2 run to close the contest.

Smith got open on a backdoor layup before Dodge City's Layla-J Cameron unknowingly scored her team's final points.

Armstead answered the Cameron basket with an And-1 to pull Hutchinson closer at 70-69.

With the shot clock dark, Cameron tried to ice the game with a corner three. The Dragons snagged the miss.

Armstead was fouled on the offensive end with 11.6 remaining and put Hutchinson on top 71-70.

The Conqs used their final timeout to advance the ball into the front court. Ky Jones missed a right-corner three and Hailey Jackson secured the rebound.

Jackson was fouled and made one of her two attempts to put Hutchinson up 72-70 with 2.7 seconds left.

Dodge City hit Santacaterina on-the-run, but her three-quarter court attempt at the buzzer was well short.

Smith scored 25 points on an impressive 10-0f-15 shooting.

Wright, 28, went 1-3 with 34 strikeouts in 31.0 innings of work across 9 outings (7 starts) for Atlanta in 2023, missing time with a right shoulder strain.
