LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;The Kansas Jayhawks outscored Oklahoma State 25-12 in the fourth quarter to overcome an 11-point second half deficit and claim a 70-64 victory on Saturday night at Allen Fieldhouse.&nbsp;

Kansas picked up its second home win of the week, improving to 9-7 on the year and 2-3 in Big 12 play, while Oklahoma State fell to 10-6 (3-2 Big 12) on the year. The win also makes KU 7-1 this season at Allen Fieldhouse.&nbsp;

“They’re not always going to be pretty, but I thought we showed a lot of grit in playing through some foul trouble and mistakes tonight,” Kansas head coach Brandon Schneider said after the game. “I thought in the second half, we were finally able to establish a paint presence after getting jumper happy in the first half. We had several players step up and make big plays, which is what it takes to win in conference play.”

Four Jayhawks scored in double figures, with Kansas being led by freshman S’Mya Nichols, who scored 17 points, while Holly Kersgieter added 16. Zakiyah Franklin and Wyvette Mayberry each had 13 points in the contest and Taiyanna Jackson battled foul trouble to finish with six points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.&nbsp;

Nichols nailed a three-pointer on KU’s opening possession to take an early 3-0 lead, but both teams would struggle to score after that. Oklahoma State got one to fall with 7:17 left in the first and tied the game at 4-4 before the Jayhawks got a three-pointer from Kersgieter and a basket from Laia Conesa to lead 9-4.&nbsp;

OSU answered with a 6-0 run and held Kansas without a field goal for the rest of the quarter, taking a 13-11 lead following a three-pointer on the final possession of the first.

Franklin opened the second with a tough layup to tie the game at 13 apiece, but the Cowgirls responded with five unanswered points to take the lead back. While holding an 18-17 lead, OSU added a 6-0 run to take a seven-point, 24-17 advantage before KU called for a timeout. The Jayhawks got to within two at 29-27 after Zsofia Telegdy connected for a three, but OSU quickly answered with a layup at the buzzer and headed into the half with a 31-27 lead.

After trading baskets for the first 2:24 of the second half, Oklahoma State went on another big run, this time scoring seven unanswered points en route to a 42-31 lead with 6:33 left in the third quarter. Jackson closed the gap to 44-34 with a made free-throw at the 5:41 mark of the quarter and Mayberry added a basket to get within eight at 44-36. Kansas closed the third frame with a 6-3 run to cut OSU’s lead down to seven heading into the fourth as the Cowgirls led 52-45.&nbsp;

Kansas stormed back to tie the game at 54 early in the fourth quarter. The Jayhawks went on an 8-0 run off the strength of back-to-back three-pointers from Nichols and Kersgieter. KU would then grab the lead for the first time since the first quarter after Nichols hit two free throws to go up 56-54

Franklin caught fire as she went on to score five consecutive points including a traditional three-point play. Nichols followed that up with a contested layup to extend KU’s run to 19-5, giving KU a 65-59 lead with 3:41 remaining.&nbsp;

OSU stayed in the game as they inched to within five, 69-64 with 1:28 left to play. Momentum stayed on KU’s side with a free-throw converted by Nichols that pushed KU to a 70-64 victory.

In the win, Kansas matched the single game school record for its fewest turnovers, with just five in the game. This is the third time in program history that KU has had just five turnovers in a game, first since last March against Arkansas in the WNIT. The Jayhawks turned 12 OSU turnovers into 11 points.&nbsp;

The victory also presented a few notable milestones for the Jayhawks. Franklin scored 13 points on the night, surpassing 1,700 career points for her career. With her nine rebounds, Jackson moved into sixth on the Kansas all-time rebounding list with 858 rebounds, passing Vickie Adkins (852).&nbsp;

Kansas hits the road to face No. 10 Texas on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on the Longhorn Network.

🏀 WBB: fourth quarter surge leads Kansas over Oklahoma State

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kevin McCullar scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half as No. 3 Kansas beat No. 9 Oklahoma 78-66 on Saturday. The Jayhawks extended their winning streak over the Sooners to six games. Hunter Dickinson led Kansas with 24 points and 14 rebounds. KJ Adams had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Oklahoma lost its second straight game. The Sooners were led by Javian McCollum with 17 points. Milos Usan added 15 and Otego Oteh had 12.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Joe Touissant scored 12 points and had a go-ahead three-point play with 30 seconds remaining to rally Texas Tech over Kansas State 60-59, running the Red Raiders’ win streak to nine. Texas Tech (14-2, 3-0 Big 12 Conference) trailed from the 3:51 mark of the first half until Toussaint’s clutch play gave the Red Raiders’ their 10th straight home win over the Wildcats (12-4, 2-1). Kerwin Walton sank a 3-pointer to give Texas Tech a 22-13 lead with 7:10 left in the first half. Tylor Perry buried four 3-pointers, Arthur Kaluma and Cam Carter each hit one in a 20-0 run and Kansas State took a 33-22 lead into halftime.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Ayoka Lee had 21 points and 10 rebounds while becoming Kansas State’s career leader in blocked shots, and the No. 12 Wildcats rallied for a 61-58 victory over No. 10 Texas. The victory snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Longhorns. Serena Sundell added 12 points and Jaelyn Glenn had 10 as the Wildcats improved to 17-1 overall and 5-0 in the Big 12 with their 11th straight win overall. Madison Booker scored 23 points and Aaliyah Moore had 15 for the Longhorns. The Cougars (14-2, 1-2 Big 12) fell to an unranked team for the second time this week. They lost for the first time this season at Iowa State on Tuesday. TCU (13-3, 2-1) earned its second straight victory over a top-10 team, three days after knocking off No. 9 Oklahoma on Wednesday. The Frogs, who have been receiving votes in the Top 25 poll for the last two weeks, could crack the rankings for the first time this season on Monday.

With a game-time temperature of minus-4 degrees Fahrenheit, the game was the fourth-coldest in NFL history. It was unclear whether the temperature made the shell of Mahomes’ helmet more brittle than usual. Regardless, the reigning league MVP was left with a fist-sized chunk of plastic missing from just above his left eye after the clash of helmets on a 13-yard scramble deep in Dolphins territory.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins played the fourth-coldest game in NFL history Saturday night. The temperature at kickoff was minus-4 degrees Fahrenheit, making it the coldest game in Arrowhead Stadium history. The wind chill was minus-27. The previous record at Arrowhead was 1 degree, set in 1983 against Denver and matched in 2016 against Tennessee. The wild-card playoff game between the Chiefs and Dolphins became only the fifth postseason game ever played in subzero temperatures. The coldest game in league history remains minus-13 for the 1967 NFL championship, when the Packers beat the Cowboys at Lambeau Field in a game that came to be known as the Ice Bowl.

HOUSTON (AP) — Rookie C.J. Stroud threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns and the Houston Texans returned two interceptions by Joe Flacco for touchdowns to trounce the Cleveland Browns 45-14 in a wild-card playoff game. The second overall pick in the draft last April became the youngest quarterback to win a playoff game. He threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns before halftime as the Texans built a 24-14 lead. The defense took over after that with Steven Nelson and Christian Harris returning interceptions for touchdowns on consecutive drives in the third quarter to extend the lead to 38-14.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A potentially dangerous snowstorm in the Buffalo region led the NFL to push back the Bills’ wild-card playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers from Sunday to Monday. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and the NFL said Saturday they made the change in the interest of public safety. Up to 2 feet of snow was projected to fall on the Buffalo region over a 24-hour period. Heavy snow began falling Saturday, accompanied by strong wind, and the Bills posted a video of whiteout conditions at Highmark Stadium. The game will now be played at 4:30 p.m. Monday instead of 1 p.m. Sunday.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Kalen DeBoer is embracing the chance to replace Nick Saban at Alabama. DeBoer said after he was introduced as the Crimson Tide's coach on Saturday that Saban will have “100 percent access” to his program. DeBoer says Saban wants the Crimson Tide's success to continue and “his legendary status will never be questioned.” Saban stood a few feet away from DeBoer as the new coach made his introductory comments. The 72-year-old former coach won six national titles in 17 seasons at Alabama. DeBoer just took Washington to the national title game and says he “really wanted” the Alabama job, but he added it “wasn't easy” to leave the Huskies.

SEATTLE (AP) — In five days, Washington went from the precipice of its first national title in more than three decades to a football program in shambles. The Huskies lost the championship game to Michigan. Their head coach left to take the job at Alabama replacing Nick Saban. And their roster is likely to be decimated, with many players headed to the NFL draft and others likely bound for the transfer portal. What could be viewed as a devastating week for Washington came to a conclusion when Kalen DeBoer left to take the head job at Alabama. DeBoer left behind a program facing an uncertain future and major challenges headed to the Big Ten next season.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Tommy Fleetwood has birdied the 18th to win the Dubai Invitational by one stroke from Rory McIlroy, who made bogey at the last after driving into the water. McIlroy led by one heading to the 18th tee but pulled his drive and saw it take a big bounce into the water. Fleetwood followed that with a drive into the middle of the fairway and sent his approach to 16 feet. That was well inside McIlroy after the world No. 2 took a drop. McIlroy missed his winding putt and Fleetwood made his to shoot 67 for 19-under 265 overall. It secured him a first win since the Nedbank Golf Challenge in November 2022.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — It was so cold that Patrick Mahomes' helmet shattered on a hit. Andy Reid's mustache froze on the sideline. Fans and players alike huddled for warmth, trying their best to grit their way through&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-dolphins-bills-steelers-nfl-playoffs-cold-snow-weather-b49dba3f4fdeeae8f023a7408b53296e">the fourth-coldest game in NFL history</a>.

The Kansas City Chiefs managed to handle the adversity well Saturday night.

Handled the Miami Dolphins quite well, too.

Mahomes threw for 262 yards, found Rashee Rice eight times for 130 yards and a touchdown, and made several daring runs for key first downs. Isiah Pacheco pounded over the frozen turf for 89 yards and another score. And the Chiefs shut down a prolific Miami offense in a 26-9 victory in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

Harrison Butker added four field goals for the reigning Super Bowl champs, who appear to be warming up for another run.

“Guys came with that attitude, that mentality — we knew it was going to be cold,” Mahomes said. “All week we were preaching, ‘Let’s come in there with that fire and just get after it and see what happens.’”

Meanwhile, the injury-depleted Dolphins (11-7) looked nothing like the same dynamic offense that led the league in yards. Tua Tagovailoa was pressured relentlessly by the NFL's second-ranked defense, wide receiver Tyreek Hill had a 53-yard TD catch but was otherwise shut down in his return to Kansas City, and the Dolphins finished with 264 yards in all.

They have not won at Arrowhead Stadium since Nov. 6, 2011, nor won a playoff game since Dec. 30, 2000.

“Losing is never fun, and when the stakes are higher — when it's playoff time — you feel that maybe 10 times more,” said Tagovailoa, who was just 20 of 39 for 199 yards passing with an interception. “We've got to live with that loss.”

The Chiefs get to live with another win in their 15th consecutive home playoff game, not counting a trio of Super Bowls that netted them two Lombardi Trophies. But they will head to Buffalo next week if the Bills beat the Steelers on Monday in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/bills-steelers-moved-winter-weather-8c223910644bf803b823597420fb46f8">a game pushed back a day</a>&nbsp;by a blizzard. Otherwise, the Chiefs will host Houston,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/texans-browns-score-stroud-flacco-playoffs-e9e4e7262a26610bb2981c12acf8fad0">which beat the Browns</a>&nbsp;earlier Saturday.

“Everybody was out there playing for each other,” Rice said. “We just put the weather to the side and knew that our opponent didn't want to be out there just as much as we didn't, and we showed our love for the game.”

It was minus-4 degrees Fahrenheit (minus-20 Celsius) at kickoff, easily setting a record for the coldest game at Arrowhead Stadium. But it was wind gusts, whipping through at more than 25 mph and driving the wind chill to a bone-rattling minus-27 degrees, that made the weather truly miserable for just about everyone.

That included pop star Taylor Swift, who once again turned up to see her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

She at least got to watch from an enclosed suite. Most fans bundled up outside in parkas, ski goggles and snow pants, and players huddled around heaters on the sidelines as if they were oases in the cold. The National Weather Service even issued a warning for what it called “dangerously cold” weather that had blanketed the Midwest.

In fact, the cold may have made Mahomes’ helmet brittle enough that a hit in the third quarter knocked a chunk of the plastic shell from it. Once officials saw the fist-sized hole, they made Mahomes get a backup helmet from the bench.

“We have to talk about where we store the backup,” Mahomes said with a smile. “It was like, frozen.”

The weather didn’t seem to bother Hill, who was playing in Kansas City for the first time since his old team traded him to Miami two years ago. The league’s leading receiver warmed up in a short-sleeve shirt, then proceeded to scorch the stout Chiefs defense and All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie for a his long touchdown reception midway through the first half.

“It's where it all started for me,” Hill said afterward. “Just being back on the field brought back so many memories.”

The Dolphins otherwise struggled on offense, though, just as they did in a 21-14 loss to the Chiefs in November in Germany. They were just 1 for 12 on third down, and they never put together a truly sustained drive until the fourth quarter.

“We knew they were going to put a lot of attention toward our receivers,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said. “We thought we had the right plan and obviously it wasn't, and hats off to them for executing their plan in the most important time.”

On offense, the Chiefs scored on four of their six first-half drives. Mahomes capped the first with his TD toss to Rice, and while ensuing drives continually fizzled in the red zone, Butker added a trio of field goals to help Kansas City forge a 16-3 lead.

“Butker was phenomenal," Reid said. “That was like kicking a block of ice.”

The Chiefs added another field goal in the third quarter, but it was still a two-possession game in the fourth when the Dolphins appeared to force another field goal. But a late flag on Christian Wilkins for roughing the passer on third down gave Kansas City a fresh set of downs, and Pacheco plowed into the end zone moments later to give the Chiefs a 26-7 lead.

The Dolphins never threatened down the stretch in their 11th straight loss when game-time temps are 40 degrees or less.

Miami: S Jevon Holland (knee) and CB Xavien Howard (foot) were inactive. CB DeShon Elliott (calf) left in the fourth quarter.

Fans and players alike huddled for warmth, trying their best to grit their way through&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-dolphins-bills-steelers-nfl-playoffs-cold-snow-weather-b49dba3f4fdeeae8f023a7408b53296e">the fourth-coldest game in NFL history</a>.The Kansas City Chiefs managed to handle the adversity well Saturday night.Handled the Miami Dolphins quite well, too.Mahomes threw for 262 yards, found Rashee Rice eight times for 130 yards and a touchdown, and made several daring runs for key first downs. Isiah Pacheco pounded over the frozen turf for 89 yards and another score. COFFEYVILLE, Kan. — No. 17 Hutchinson (14-2, 9-1) used a 26-6 run in the first half to build a 53-30 advantage on Coffeyville (8-8, 4-6) at halftime and never looked back.

Kam Thomas caught fire from three, hitting 4-of-5 in the first half and 5-of-6 for the game.

Thomas led the Dragons with 25 points on 77% shooting from the floor (10-13).

Tino Simon added his fourth double-double of the year with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Cris Carroll (former Blue Dragon) was held to a single point in the first half and started 0-for-8. Carroll came into the game as the league's fourth-leading scorer (18.5 ppg).

Carroll caught stride in the second half and finished with 16 points on 5-of-14 shooting.

The Red Ravens were led by Jahni Summers' 26 points.

Four Red Ravens finished with double-digit scoring: Summers (26), Brian Griffith (19), Carroll (16) and Alvin Cole (10).

J.P. Ricks was the third Blue Dragon with double figures. He scored 14 on 6-of-8 shooting.

Coffeyville cut the Dragon 23-point halftime lead to 12 on 80% shooting to begin the second half, but Hutchinson had an answer at every turn.

The Dragons shot 56.1% for the game, including 50% (11-22) from three.

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. — No. 6 Hutchinson (16-0, 10-0) is off to the program's sixth-best start to a season after a 58-39 victory over Coffeyville (11-5, 6-4).

The Dragons boast the best offense and defense in the conference, and held the Red Ravens to a series-low 39 points.

Hutchinson has now held nine-straight opponents to 54 points or fewer.

Journey Armstead led the Dragons with 17 points on 3-of-7 shooting from distance. She now has five threes in her last two games after knocking down just five in the first 14 games.

Akaysha Muggeridge added a pair of triples and 16 points.

Hutchinson stayed hot from distance to begin the contest, nailing 6-of-15 attempts from deep (40%).

The hot shooting comes on the heels of a 4-for-10 effort to close the last home victory against Seward after starting a frigid 0-of-14.

Hutchinson held Coffeyville scoreless for 7:28 of the second half.

Kyleigh Ortiz stopped the skid by scoring her only five points of the game on back-to-back possessions.

Bailey Layman led the Red Ravens with 17 points. She nailed 5-of-11 three-pointers and played all 40 minutes.

Layman was 4-of-6 from deep to begin the game, but the Blue Dragons used different defensive looks in the second frame to force a colder 1-of-5 in the final 20 minutes.

For the first time this season, Kiki Smith was held under double-digit scoring. She finished with four points on 2-of-8 shooting, including 0-4 from three.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Joe Touissant scored 12 points and had a go-ahead three-point play with 30 seconds remaining to rally Texas Tech over Kansas State 60-59 on Saturday, running the Red Raiders' win streak to nine.

Texas Tech (14-2, 3-0 Big 12 Conference) trailed from the 3:51 mark of the first half until Toussaint's clutch play gave the Red Raiders' their 10th straight home win over the Wildcats (12-4, 2-1).

Kerwin Walton sank a 3-pointer to give Texas Tech a 22-13 lead with 7:10 left in the first half. Tylor Perry buried four 3-pointers, Arthur Kaluma and Cam Carter each hit one in a 20-0 run and Kansas State took a 33-22 lead into halftime.

Warren Washington scored 29 seconds into the second half for Texas Tech, ending a drought that reached 7:39. Washington added two more baskets and Chance McMillian hit a 3-pointer to pull the Red Raiders within 38-33 with 16:32 left to play. McMillian's three-point play and a basket by Kerwin Walton cut the deficit to 44-42 with 8:41 remaining.

Will McNair Jr. scored four points in a 6-0 run to push the Wildcats' lead to 55-46 with 4:37 to go. Washington missed the second of two free throws but Darrion Williams grabbed the rebound and turned it into a three-point play to get the Red Raiders within 57-55 at the 2:32 mark. Williams added two free throws 56 seconds later to tie the game at 57.

Perry hit two free throws with 41 second left to give K-State its last lead. He missed a jumper at the buzzer.

Washington scored nine of his 11 points in the second half for Texas Tech, adding eight rebounds. He topped 1,000 points for his career. Pop Isaacs and Williams both scored 10 with Williams grabbing six boards.

Perry led the Wildcats with 16 points and four assists. Carter made three 3-pointers and scored 15. Kaluma contributed 10 points and six rebounds. McNair finished with nine points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots.

Texas Tech has won 10 of its last 11 games under first-year coach Grant McCasland. The Red Raiders only loss in the streak was a 103-95 overtime setback to Butler.

Kansas State coach Jerome Tang and McCasland were assistant coaches on Baylor coach Scott Drew's staff from 2011-16. K-State leads the all-time series 26-25.

Kansas State returns home to play 14th-ranked Baylor on Tuesday. Texas Tech travels to play No. 2 Houston on Wednesday.

MANHATTAN, Kansas –&nbsp;In a game featuring 12 lead changes and 11 ties, (12/12) K-State secured its second top-10 win of the season, as the Wildcats downed (10/10) Texas at Bramlage Coliseum on Saturday afternoon, 61-58. This was K-State's 11th straight victory, the longest winning streak for the Wildcats since the 2008-09 team won 14 consecutive games to begin the season.

K-State improved its record to 17-1 for the first time under the direction of head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/coaches/jeff-mittie/2161">Jeff Mittie</a>. This is the best start for K-State since opening the 2008-09 season with a 17-1 mark. In its history, K-State has opened a season 17-1 four times.

K-State upped its Big 12 record to 5-0, the first time since the 200-7-08 season the Wildcats have opened Big 12 action with a 5-0 record.The Wildcats have defeated two Associated Press top-10 foes in the same season for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

K-State had three players reach double figures on Saturday and were led by senior center and All-American&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/ayoka-lee/11193">Ayoka Lee</a>&nbsp;with her sixth double-double of the season and the 55th of her career with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and 5-of-5 from the foul line, 10 rebounds, four blocks, a steal and an assist.&nbsp;

The total ranks ninth in Big 12 history.

Hunter Dickinson led Kansas (14-2, 2-1 Big 12) with 24 points and 14 rebounds. KJ Adams had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Dajuan Harris had eight assists and no turnovers.

The Jayhawks committed two turnovers in the entire game, something the players said was an emphasis after combining for 35 in their last two games. Kansas coach Bill Self thought otherwise.

“I don’t know that we emphasize that nearly as much as what you guys (the media) think we do,” he said. “But we didn’t have to because the players all know.

"I thought we did a better job of taking care of the basketball. That’s probably about as well as we can take care of the ball. Two is a low number. We’re not good enough offensively to give away possessions. So our number needs to be under 10, or 10 or so.”

Kansas is looking for another offensive threat besides McCullar, Dickinson, Adams and Harris. On Saturday, those four were enough.

“Their ‘big four’ showed up and showed up big,” Oklahoma coach Porter Moser said. “We didn’t guard well enough the second half. We put a lot of pressure on our offense when (we) didn’t guard.”

Javian McCollum scored 17 points to lead Oklahoma (13-3, 1-2), which lost its second straight game. Milos Usan added 15 and Otego Oteh had 12.

Kansas finally grabbed a double-digit lead with 10:31 left on a pair of free throws by McCullar en route to opening a 16-point lead.

“I thought we played really well,” Self said. "Probably the best game we played, maybe since Connecticut (Dec. 1). That was probably the best game we played."

For Dickinson, this type of effort is what he expects.

“We all knew that we dropped one (against UCF Wednesday),” he said. “You don’t get many chances like that, especially how competitive this league is. And so we knew we dropped one, and this game was gonna be big, not only because we just lost but we were playing a Top 10 team in the country.”

Oklahoma took its first lead when Jalon Moore followed a missed shot and slammed it home for a 27-26 advantage with 6:28 left in the first half. The teams traded leads the rest of the half, and Kansas led 38-37 lead at the break.

Adams led all scorers with 15 first-half points. Dickinson had 10 points. McCollum led the Sooners with 12 points.

Oklahoma: The Sooners, who are leaving the Big 12 after this season, did not back down. After trailing by as many as 11 points, Oklahoma kept the game close until Kansas' late spurt put the game away.

Kansas: Allen Fieldhouse is still tough on visiting teams. Kansas seems to find a way to feed off the crowd to win home games.

Oklahoma: The Sooners return home Wednesday to face West Virginia before traveling to Cincinnati for their first matchup as conference foes next Saturday.

Kansas: The Jayhawks will be on the road twice next week, facing Oklahoma State on Tuesday. They also play at West Virginia.
