They didn't let the Chargers cross midfield until the third quarter. It was the most points for the Raiders, beating out their 59-14 victory at Denver in 2010. The Raiders led 42-0 at halftime, just three points shy of the NFL record for halftime margin that was set in 2009 when the New England led Tennessee 45-0. General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. is hopeful an indefinite suspension provides enough time for their star forward to make real progress. Dunleavy says the team is satisfied with the NBA's latest punishment for Green, the four-time NBA champion who was banned indefinitely Wednesday after hitting Phoenix center Jusuf Nurkic in the face. The suspension was the sixth of Green's career and his fourth in 2023. Dunleavy repeatedly said the Warriors will "help" Green during his absence, but didn't provide specifics.

They beat the Golden State Warriors 121-113 with Harden racking up 28 points, 15 assists and seven rebounds. Kawhi Leonard added 28 points. Klay Thompson scored a season-high 30 while hitting eight 3-pointers for Golden State, which went 0-3 on its road trip and has lost 12 of 16 overall. Stephen Curry had 17 points on 5-of-17 shooting as the Warriors began another potentially lengthy stint without Draymond Green, who is suspended indefinitely after smacking Phoenix's Jusuf Nurkic in the face.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Clayton Kershaw said he is recovering well after recent shoulder surgery and has yet to decide where and when to sign his next contract. The three-time Cy Young Award winner is a free agent after signing one-year contracts each of the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 35-year-old left-hander is still in the process of deciding his next move. Kershaw calls new Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani "a unique, unique talent" and says he's eager to see the two-time AL MVP resume pitching in 2025.

Two-time ABA champion and Indiana Mr. Basketball winner George McGinnis dies at 73

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Two-time ABA champion and three-time NBA All-Star George McGinnis has died. He was 73. McGinnis was considered one of the best prep players to play in the basketball-rich state of Indiana. He spent two seasons with the Indiana Hoosiers, earning third team All-American honors in the only season he actually played. McGinnis then became one of the first underclassmen to play professional basketball, joining the Indiana Pacers in 1971. He also played for the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets before finishing his 11-year career back with the Pacers. He was the ABA's 1974-75 MVP and a three-time ABA All-Star.

Joe Flacco signs 1-year deal with Browns. QB can earn incentives with playoff run, Super Bowl win

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Joe Flacco's officially signed and sealed with Cleveland. Flacco got a one-year, $4.05 million contract from the Browns, who brought in the veteran quarterback last month while in emergency mode after losing starter Deshaun Watson for the season with a right shoulder injury. Flacco's deal means the 38-year-old moves from the practice squad to the active roster. And while it was more procedural than anything, it assures he'll be with the Browns as they try to clinch a playoff spot. The team elevated Flacco from the practice squad in each of the past two weeks for starts.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have acquired minor league right-handed pitcher&nbsp;Ryan Brady&nbsp;and infielder&nbsp;Cam DeVanney&nbsp;from the Milwaukee Brewers for right-handed pitcher&nbsp;Taylor Clarke.&nbsp;Kansas City’s Major League Reserve List is now at 40.

Brady, 24, made 37 appearances across High-A Wisconsin and Double-A Biloxi in the Brewers system last year, combining to go 4-4 with a 2.69 ERA (23 ER in 77.0 IP) with 72 strikeouts and just 19 walks. Brady signed with the Brewers as a non-drafted free agent on July 27, 2022 by Brewers scout&nbsp;Adam Hayes, after playing in parts of three seasons at Brigham Young University (Utah).

DeVanney, 26, played in 103 games for Triple-A Nashville in 2023, slashing .271/.363/.461 (91-for-336) with 27 doubles, 11 home runs, 47 RBI and an .824 OPS, all while appearing first base, second base, third base and shortstop. He was named a 2022 MiLB.com Organizational All-Star in 2022 after slashing .264/.342/.492 (119-for-451, .834 OPS) with 32 doubles, 23 home runs and 68 RBI in 128 games across Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville. The right-handed hitter was selected in the 15th&nbsp;round of the 2019 Draft out of Elon University (N.C.) by Brewers scout&nbsp;Taylor Frederick&nbsp;and has spent each of his first five professional seasons with Milwaukee.

⚾ Royals acquire Ryan Brady and Cam DeVaney from Brewers

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have signed right-handed pitcher&nbsp;Seth Lugo&nbsp;to a two-year Major League contract, with a player option for 2026. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Lugo, 34, worked exclusively as a starter for the first time in 2023 and set career highs in several categories with San Diego, including wins (8), games started (26), innings pitched (146.1) and strikeouts (140), while walking just 36 batters and posting a 3.57 ERA (58 ER in 146.1 IP). He ranked 9th&nbsp;among National League starting pitchers with a 2.21 BB/9 rate and 6.0 BB% (min. 25 starts).

<a>MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–</a>&nbsp;Kansas State senior left guard&nbsp;Cooper Beebe&nbsp;made history on Thursday, as he became the first offensive lineman in school history to earn Consensus All-America status by being named a First Team All-American by the Football Coaches Association of America (AFCA).

Beebe is the 12th Wildcat all-time to become a Consensus All-American, while it was the 14th time in school history a K-State player earned the honor. It is the third-straight season a Wildcat has been a Consensus All-American (Deuce Vaughn in 2021 and 2022), marking the first time K-State had a Consensus All-American in three-straight years since going five-straight seasons from 1995-99.

A native of Kansas City, Kansas, Beebe is also the first Wildcat to earn unanimous Consensus All-America honors by being honored by the five organizations that comprise the team – the Associated Press, AFCA, Football Writers Association of America,&nbsp;Sporting News&nbsp;and Walter Camp Foundation – since cornerback Terence Newman in 2002.

In addition to the five All-America teams above, Beebe has also been named a First Team All-American by CBS Sports, ESPN, FOX Sports, Pro Football Focus,&nbsp;Sports Illustrated&nbsp;and&nbsp;The Athletic.

The Reivers defense flexed there might, only allowing one offensive touchdown and forcing the Lions to punt eight times. Quarterback Hunter Watson led Iowa Western with 312 yards of total offense and 5 touchdowns. These efforts earned Watson the National Championship MVP.

Iowa Western took an early lead on a on a Hunter Watson pass to Bryant Williams to take a 6-0 lead.

The Lions fired right back, and Jaylon York weaved through the kickoff team to take it 91 yards and give East Mississippi a 7-6 lead. 

A 10 play drive by the Reivers and Watson scoring on a QB Sneak to give Iowa Western the lead back. They would not surrender it for the remainder of the game.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Giannis Antetokounmpo exchanged heated words with members of the Indiana staff and raced toward the Pacers' locker room Wednesday night as the teams squared off in a hallway in a dispute over the game ball following the Milwaukee star's franchise-record 64-point performance. After the Bucks' 140-126 victory, Antetokounmpo had an animated discussion with Indiana star Tyrese Haliburton and other Pacers before rushing from the court toward the Indiana locker room in search of the ball. The Bucks wanted the game ball for Antetokounmpo, who set a franchise record with 64 points. Indiana coach Rick Carlisle said the Pacers took the ball for Oscar Tshiebwe, who scored his first official NBA point. That led to a confrontation between members of the teams in the arena hallway.

Antetokounmpo's previous career high was 55 in a 123-113 victory over Washington in January 2023. He had 54 at Indiana on Nov. 9. Antetokounmpo was 20 of 28 from the field, made 24 of 32 free throws and had 14 rebounds. Damian Lillard added 21 points for the Bucks.Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner had 22 points apiece for the Pacers, who beat the Bucks 128-119 in the semifinals of the In-Season Tournament on Thursday night.

Warriors star Draymond Green suspended indefinitely by NBA

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was suspended indefinitely by the NBA on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after he hit Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face and received a Flagrant 2 foul and ejection. The league said the penalty handed down by operations chief Joe Dumars begins immediately. This is already Green's second suspension this season. The NBA said: "He will be required to meet certain league and team conditions before he returns to play." The NBA noted that "this outcome takes into account Green's repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts."

Ohtani can opt out of Dodgers deal if execs Walter, Friedman lose roles with team, AP source says

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani can opt out of his $700 million, 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers if either of two key executives is no longer in place, a person familiar with the agreement told The Associated Press. Ohtani, who will be formally introduced by the Dodgers at a news conference Thursday, would be allowed to terminate his deal if Mark Walter no longer is controlling owner or president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman no longer is with the team, the person said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the terms were not announced. Ohtani's deal, announced Monday, provides that 97% of the money be deferred without interest and not fully paid until 2043.

College athletes who transfer twice can play, for now, after a judge sets aside NCAA transfer rule

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — College athletes who were denied the chance to play immediately after transferring a second time can return to competition, for now. A federal judge in West Virginia issued a 14-day temporary restraining order Wednesday against the NCAA. The order comes after seven states filed a lawsuit contending the NCAA's transfer rule violates federal antitrust law. The NCAA said in a statement it would comply with the order. NCAA rules allow underclassmen to transfer once without having to sit out. But an additional transfer as an undergraduate generally requires the NCAA to grant a waiver to play immediately. A hearing on the restraining order is scheduled for Dec. 27.

GENEVA (AP) — Paris Saint-Germain and not Newcastle or AC Milan advanced to the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday. PSG and Kylian Mbappé were left holding their ticket after a tense finish to the tightest group saw Newcastle let its chance slip. PSG's 1-1 draw at Group F winner Borussia Dortmund was enough to secure second place and advance because Newcastle lost 2-1 at home to AC Milan. Newcastle was in the box seat kicking off the second half with a one-goal lead. Porto also advanced with a 5-3 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk which needed to win.

NFL approves regular-season game for Brazil in 2024 in more international expansion

IRVING, Texas (AP) — The NFL will play a regular-season game in Brazil in 2024. It's the latest expansion in the league's rapidly growing international plan. The league says the game will be played at Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo. The stadium has a capacity of nearly 50,000 and was a World Cup venue in 2014. The NFL played its first two regular-season games in Frankfurt, Germany, this year, with three more in London. There will be games in both those countries again in 2024.

Huge underdog Chicago State stuns No. 25 Northwestern 75-73 behind 30 points from Cardet

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Wesley Cardet Jr. scored 30 points and Chicago State stunned No. 25 Northwestern in a 75-73 upset. Boo Buie made two layups 41 seconds apart to put Northwestern in front 67-65 with 2:30 left in a back-and-forth game. Cardet tied it 26 seconds later and then hit a 3-pointer with 1:23 remaining for a 70-67 lead. Chicago State sealed it with three late free throws from A.J. Neal and two by Noble Crawford. Cardet shot 13 of 21 and Jahsean Corbett added 17 points for the Cougars, a Division I independent. Buie had 23 points and Ryan Langborg scored 18 for the Wildcats, who lost to Chicago State for the first time. Northwestern had won 15 straight against the South Side program since the teams first met in 1981.

Kalib Boone scores 25 points to lead UNLV to 79-64 upset over No. 8 Creighton

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Kalib Boone scored 25 points and UNLV led nearly the entire way in a 79-64 victory over No. 8 Creighton. Dedan Thomas Jr. added 16 points and nine assists for the Rebels. Justin Webster scored 13 and Keylan Boone had 10. This was the first appearance with UNLV for Keylan Boone, whose twin brother is Kalib, after a federal judge in West Virginia ruled double transfers could play immediately. Many top Russian athletes faced minimal drug testing in 2023 ahead of next year's Paris Olympics

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Two of Russia's top swimmers who could be eligible for the next year's Olympics have been drug tested by their country's anti-doping agency only twice apiece in 2023. It's part of a larger trend in the country that adds an extra layer of uncertainty to the IOC's recent decision to allow some athletes to compete in Paris. The Russian Anti-Doping Agency says it has administered some 10,500 tests in 2023. Among those tests, only two went to defending backstroke champion Evgeniy Rylov and 50-meter backstroke world-record holder Kliment Kolesnikov. Other findings are that a handful of fencers and gymnasts have faced three or fewer tests this year. Top American athletes have faced more than double the tests from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Andy Reid had no interest Wednesday in reliving the Chiefs' controversial loss to Buffalo last weekend.

Reid curtly batted away continued questions&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-kadarius-toney-offside-a81e77e06a1fa06490e9d303976148da">about the 20-17 defeat,</a>&nbsp;where a rare offside penalty on wide receiver Kadarius Toney negated what would have been the go-ahead touchdown in the final minutes.

Reid took issue with the fact that officials tend to give warnings when a player lines up offside, and that&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/offside-chiefs-bills-kelce-toney-9b62fb1c2cb9219e84faa9d59c85ddd6">flags are rarely thrown</a>&nbsp;for such an infraction.

“We brought the guys in yesterday and they understand all our focus is straight ahead on the Patriots, and every day we have to practice for this game is important,” Reid said before practice. “I felt that way after the game. They know the importance of it.”

The Chiefs (8-5), who have lost four of their past six, visit New England on Sunday.

“You always got to move forward,” Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones said. “It happens so fast: You have one game, you have one day off, and then you start focusing on the next team. You don't have time to linger on a loss. It's all about moving forward.”

Earlier in the day, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce railed at critics of their struggling offense on his&nbsp;<a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=new+heights+kelce&amp;rlz=1C1GCEA_enUS1024US1024&amp;oq=new+heights+kelce&amp;gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIGCAEQRRg5MgYIAhBFGDsyBggDEEUYOzIGCAQQRRg80gEIMTQ1MWowajmoAgCwAgA&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8">“New Heights” podcast</a>&nbsp;with his brother and Eagles center Jason Kelce. Most of the criticism has been directed at Kansas City wide receivers, who lead the NFL in dropped passes by a wide margin, and more recently Toney, whose penalty against Buffalo proved to be so costly.

“We're not rolling like we have in the past. I know there's a lot of media pointing fingers at some of the skill players that we have,” Kelce said. “All this that I hear in the media right now about who the Chiefs are, it's only building that beast that we've been trying to create this entire year. It's only going to keep making us better and better, going through these learning experiences and going through these tough games.”

The Chiefs have had plenty of those lately.

Four of their past five games have been decided by one possession, and three have been losses, including another in Green Bay in which officials took some heat. They didn't throw a flag for a potential defensive pass interference penalty on the Packers, so rather than have a chance to tie the game late, Kansas City headed home with a 27-19 loss.

In fact, the Chiefs are off to their worst start through 13 games since Patrick Mahomes became the starting QB in 2018.

“I think once the game was over (Sunday), you kind of get to sleep, come back Monday and Tuesday, and everybody's mind was in the right spot,” Mahomes said Wednesday. “In this league, you have to get past that stuff.”

Mahomes was as angry as any point in his professional career after the penalty on Toney, and teammates nearly had to hold him back as he chased after officials for an explanation. When the game ended, and Mahomes was shaking hands with Bills star Josh Allen at midfield, he told his fellow quarterback: "Offensive offside in that moment, man — terrible.”

Mahomes said Wednesday he regretted the way he handled the end of the game.

“Definitely emotion talking when I was talking to Josh at midfield, just to lose the football game in a tough way,” he said. “He had nothing to do with it. Just show better sportsmanship. Tell him ‘great game’ and keep it moving.”

In this case, keep it moving into Sunday's trip to New England.

“All I can do is go about business like I do every week,” said Mahomes, whose team now leads the AFC West by a single game over Denver. “The division is tight. The AFC is tight. We just have to go out there and play our best football.”

NOTES: RB Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) and LT Donovan Smith (neck) remained out of practice Wednesday. LB Drue Tranquill planned to be on the field, an indication that he is close to clearing the concussion protocol. ... LB Leo Chenal and FS Mike Edwards were out with an illness.

LAWRENCE, KAN. –&nbsp;Kansas Athletics is excited to announce that construction on David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium will escalate this week as the demolition of Phase I of the football stadium has begun as part of the University of Kansas Gateway District project.

Fans and supporters can keep track of the progress of the construction by viewing a&nbsp;<a href="https://kugatewaydistrict.com/live-cameras/">live camera&nbsp;</a>of the work currently being done at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. Live camera feeds should be accessed via desktop computer for optimal viewing experience.

The long-anticipated construction will cause street closures around the stadium that motorists and residents should be familiar with. Fambrough Drive and Fambrough Way will be closed to vehicles beginning Friday, December 15.

Motorists who typically use Fambrough Drive – which runs east and west to the north of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium – will be detoured to Ninth Street. KU community members who typically access Parking Lot 59 via Fambrough Way – which runs north and south between the stadium and the indoor practice facility – can access that lot via the driveway at the corner of Fambrough Drive and Missouri Street.

The two roads are expected to remain closed until approximately January 19.

Construction on the stadium began immediately after Kansas Football’s final home game this season on Nov. 18. Once the demolition is complete, work will continue on Phase I of the Gateway District and David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, which is slated to open for the 2025 season.

First announced last October by Chancellor Douglas A. Girod and KU Athletic Director Travis Goff, the Gateway District will transform David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium and the surrounding area. The reimagined football stadium will be part of a state-of-the-art conference center and additional multiuse development complex, which will reshape the north entrance to KU’s Lawrence campus.

TAMPA&nbsp;– The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that Reagan Cooper and Camryn Turner of Kansas Volleyball have been named 2023 All-Americans.

Turner was named Honorable Mention, while Cooper secured Third Team honors. This is the first time in both of their careers that they’ve garnered All-American accolades.

Turner, the Big 12 Setter of the Year and First Team All-Big 12 selection, led the conference in assists per set for the majority of the season, ending at the top with a 10.67 average. The Topeka, Kansas native was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week in September, as well as the lone Preseason All-Big 12 selection for the Jayhawks. Turner also posted the second most digs per set on the team with 2.95 and recorded 84 kills and 58 total blocks for a well-rounded season stat line.

Turner currently holds the eighth most career assists in Kansas program history, with 2,811 total assists at the conclusion of her junior season.

Although only a Jayhawk for one season, Cooper made quite the impact during her time. The Texas Tech transfer was recognized various times on a national scale, as she was named AVCA Midwest All-Region, as well as the Division I National Player of the Week back on Nov. 21, making her the first Kansas player to earn that award since Kelsie Payne (2016).

The graduate out of Rowlett, Texas was also named All-Big 12 First Team after leading the Jayhawks with 3.86 kills and 4.17 points per set while hitting an impressive .346 on the year. Cooper tied the program record for most kills in a single match when she knocked down 29 against Penn State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, marking the fifth time she surpassed 20-plus kills in a match this season.

Cooper was most recently drafted in the second round of the inaugural Pro Volleyball Federation draft, making her the 14th overall pick and a member of the Columbus Fury. Cooper was one of seven Big 12 players to be selected in this year’s draft, and she is joined by fellow All-Big 12 First Team member Texas middle blocker Asjia O’Neal, who was the overall No. 1 pick.

Carter was tabbed honorable mention to become the first Wildcat to earn an All-America honor since 2018 with Sarah Dixon, Gloria Mutiri, and Kylee Zumach, and first under head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/coaches/jason-mansfield/1963">Jason Mansfield</a>.

In addition to the All-America honor, Carter has also garnered several other awards this year, including First Team AVCA All-Midwest Region, First Team All-Big 12, Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week twice, and Lippy Invitational and Rose City Showdown All-Tournament Team. With her all-conference honor, she became the first player in program history to earn three unanimous First Team All-Big 12 accolades.

A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Carter wrapped up 2023 with team-bests in kills (390), kills per set (4.06), points (438), and points per set (4.56). She ended the season fifth in the Big 12 and 37th&nbsp;in the country in kills per set, while her 4.43 kills average during conference play ranked third in the league.

EL PASO, Texas --&nbsp;Wichita State silenced a raucous sell-out crowd, sweeping UTEP 25-14, 25-22, 25-22 to claim the NIVC championship and the program's first national postseason title.

The Shockers (26-8) dominated the match virtually from start to finish, trailing just 1-0 in the first set and by just three points in the second on their way to another sweep. Wichita State dropped only one total set in the entire tournament, sweeping four of five matches on their way to the title.

UTEP (25-10) entered the match 14-0 at home this season and brought out 3,271 fans to witness the championship. But the Shockers kept the fans silent with a thorough first set performance, holding the Miners potent offense to a -.053 hitting percentage while hitting .321 themselves. A 9-2 run in the middle of the set proved to be the knockout blow, turning a 9-7 lead into an 18-9 advantage. The Shockers lefts carried much of the load, as&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/emerson-wilford/7495">Emerson Wilford</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/barbara-koehler/7497">Barbara Koehler</a>&nbsp;combined for seven kills on 14 swings without making an error. The Shockers had four blocks in the set, leading to 12 UTEP attack errors. PHOENIX (AP) — Golden State bad boy Draymond Green was ejected once again on Tuesday night after hitting Jusuf Nurkic in the face while the two were battling for position in the third quarter during a game against the Phoenix Suns. It's been less than a month since Green was suspended five games by the NBA for putting Minnesota's Rudy Gobert into a headlock during an altercation in November. This fracas wasn't quite as involved, but it was still another bewildering moment for the four-time All-Star, and could lead to further league discipline, especially considering his history.

Blues fire Craig Berube, cutting ties with the coach who led St. Louis to its 1st Stanley Cup title

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Blues fired coach Craig Berube on Tuesday night, hours after a 6-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. The loss was the season-worst fourth straight for the Blues, who are off to a 13-14-1 start to the season. The 57-year-old Berube guided the Blues to the Stanley Cup championship in 2019. He replaced Mike Yeo as coach Nov. 20, 2018, as the interim coach and led an amazing turnaround. He led St. Louis to a 38-19-6 record in 2018-19. Chargers QB Justin Herbert will miss rest of season after surgery on his broken index finger

COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) — Justin Herbert has had surgery to repair the broken index finger on his right hand. He will miss the Los Angeles Chargers' remaining four games. Herbert visited two hand specialists on Monday after he suffered the injury during the second quarter of Los Angeles' 24-7 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Herbert is the seventh starting quarterback in the league to be lost for the season because of an injury, provided the Jets' Aaron Rodgers does not return from his torn Achilles tendon. Herbert's backup, Easton Stick, will get his first NFL start on Thursday night at Las Vegas.
