MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Micha Peavy scored a career-high 26 points and Jameer Nelson Jr. hit a&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/i/status/1758936661147218130">fadeaway 3-pointer</a>&nbsp;with 1.1 seconds left to lift TCU to a 75-72 win over Kansas State on Saturday.

Nelson was called for a foul as Kansas State (15-10, 5-7 Big 12) was trying to inbound the ball with 15.6 seconds left. That allowed the Wildcats to tie the game on two Cam Carter free throws. Nelson redeemed himself with a heavily contested shot and the Wildcats' length-of-the-court heave bounced off the backboard.

Peavy scored 17 points in the second half for TCU (18-7, 7-5), including 11 in an 20-2 run to take a 10-point lead with seven minutes remaining before the Wildcats worked their way back into the tie on Carter's free throws.

Emanuel Miller, TCU's leading scorer this season, didn't have a first-half point but finished with 10.

Tylor Perry scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half to lead the Wildcats, making all 12 of his free throws, 10 in the second half. David N'Guessan added 12 points and Arthur Kaluma 11. Kansas State outshot TCU at 48% but made just 1 of 15 from the arc with the Horned Frogs doubling up Kansas State on the offensive boards 14-7 for 20 second-chance points.

The Wildcats finished the first half on a 12-5 run for a 28-24 lead.

Teams combined for 59 free throws. TCU was 21 of 30 and Kansas State 25 of 29.

Kansas State is at Texas on Monday. TCU plays at Texas Tech on Tuesday.

The Kansas Wesleyan basketball teams will return to Salina on Saturday night in search of big bounce-back wins over the Moundbuilders of Southwestern

WBB: Kansas Wesleyan (13-11, 11-7) vs. SW College (0-23, 0-19)

It has been all KWU of late against Southwestern, the Coyotes winning the last 11 games. They defeated the Moundbuilders 81-68 in the first meeting January 3 in Winfield and have a 24-17 lead in the series since January 2006.

The Moundbuilders entered the week seeking their first victory of the season. They lost to Bethel 81-54 Saturday in North Newton and 85-72 to Oklahoma&nbsp;Wesleyan&nbsp;last Wednesday in Winfield.

Southwestern averages 57 points and allows 79. The Moundbuilders are shooting 32 percent overall, 25.7 percent from long distance, are being outrebounded by 8.1 per game and average 20 turnovers. 

Senior forward Christy Wiebe leads the team in scoring (11.2 points) and rebounding (8.7). Freshman guard Kennedy Ford is next on the scoring list (9.4). Sophomore guard Macey Pond had 18 points in the first game against KWU.

The ninth-ranked Moundbuilders defeated Bethel 97-89 Saturday in North Newton, rebounding from a 70-68 homecourt loss to No. 4 Oklahoma&nbsp;Wesleyan&nbsp;last Wednesday. Southwestern had won eight in a row prior to the OKWU setback.

Cevin Clark had 22 points, Mason Thiessen 21, and Jarvin Jennings 19 in the first game against KWU. Southwestern trailed 57-46 at halftime but made it close the second half.

Clark, a senior guard, leads the NAIA in scoring with a 27.1 average while shooting 48.4 percent from the field, 37.4 percent from long distance, and 85.4 percent from the foul line. He scored 19 against OKWU, 29 against Bethel and has tallied 30 or more seven times this season. Junior guard Justin DeMaria averages 12.5 points and junior guard Andrew O'Brien 10.4. The first half of a crucial week for the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team facing two nationally ranked opponents went the Blue Dragons' way.

Now No. 15 Hutchinson looks to continue it's late-season surge with a home battle against No. 22 Butler at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons (21-3, 18-2 Jayhawk Conference) and Grizzlies (19-5, 14-4) meet for the second time this season at 4 p.m. At halftime, the Blue Dragon Quarterback Club Hall of Fame Class of 2024 - Kadeem Allen, Jamie Patrick and Kyle Simonds - will be inducted.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98,5) beginning at 3:45 p.m. with Glen Grunwald (play-by-play) and Dan Naccarato (color) calling the action. The Blue Dragons rallied from 14 points down in the second half on Wednesday to defeat No. 9 Cowley 88-86 at Scott Auditorium.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2023-24/bios/smith_kobe_csmn">Kobe Smith</a>, who scored a career-high 20 points, hit the go-ahead bucket with 1.8 seconds remaining in regulation.

Tino Simon had his fourth-straight double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2023-24/bios/thomas_kamryn_j9zm">Kamryn Thomas</a>&nbsp;had 15 points. The 14-point comeback was the largest of the season for the Blue Dragons.

The victory gave Hutchinson an 8-0 record in true road games and a 3-2 record against ranked opponents this season. That victory was Hutchinson's first against a Top 10 opponent since defeating No. 8 Dodge City 113-112 on December 10, 2022 in Dodge City.

Hutchinson rides a season's-best seven-game winning streak into Saturday. The Blue Dragons moved into second place in the Jayhawk Conference, 1.5 games behind No. 2 Barton.

Butler sits in fourth place in the conference standings entering Saturday, two games behind the Blue Dragons for second. The Grizzlies have won two games in a row after defeating Garden City 93-83 last Saturday and Dodge City 84-76 on Wednesday on the road.

The Grizzlies shot 55.2 percent on Wednesday at Dodge City with Jaquez Thornton coming off the bench to lead a balanced offensive attack with 16 points.

Hutchinson claimed the first matchup with Butler this season, a 63-60 come-from-behind victory at the Power Plant in El Dorado.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2023-24/bios/thomas_kamryn_j9zm">Kamryn Thomas</a>&nbsp;hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 38 seconds to play as Hutchinson rallied from nine points down with 8:09 to play, closing the game on a 22-10 run.

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team faces its fourth nationally ranked matchup of the season on Saturday afternoon.

The NJCAA top-ranked Blue Dragons (24-0, 18-0 Jayhawk Conference) meets the 21st-ranked Butler Grizzlies (19-5, 13-5 Jayhawk Conference) for the second time this season at 2 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Hutchinson earned a big road victory on Wednesday, defeating the Cowley Tigers 81-62 at Scott Auditorium in Arkansas City. With Wednesday's victory, the Blue Dragons clinched a first-round bye for the Region VI Tournament in March.

Butler was stung on Wednesday in overtime at No. 16 Dodge City 72-63. The Grizzlies were outscored 17-6 in overtime.

Grizzly All-American Freddie Wallace had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead Butler against the Conquistadors. Maycee James had 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals as Butler shot 32.4 percent from the field and 1 of 17 from 3-point range.

Wallace is the second-leading scorer in the Jayhawk Conference this season at 19.3 points per game.

GAINESVILLE, Texas – After a frustrating Game 1 loss to North Central Texas, the Hutchinson Community College softball team's bats finally started to deliver to the final game of the four-game Oklahoma-Texas road trip to earn a doubleheader split on Friday at North Central Texas.

After dropping the first game 5-0, the No. 17-ranked Blue Dragons made a four-run second inning in Game 2 stand up as Hutchinson defeated North Central Texas 5-3.

The Blue Dragons are now 7-3 heading into next Thursday's home and Jayhawk Conference opener with Colby at Fun Valley.

Sophomore third baseman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/sandoval_olivia_ydnf">Olivia Sandoval</a>&nbsp;had hits in each game on Friday to extend her consecutive-game hitting streak to 26 games. Sandoval led off the fourth inning of Game 1 with a double to extend the streak to 25 games. She had an RBI single in the second inning of Game 2 to push the second-longest hitting streak to 26 games in Game 2.

Leading 4-3 entering the seventh, the Dragons got a needed insurance run when Lozoya scored on NCTC's sixth error of the game for a two-run lead.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lies_korri_k1mj">Korri Lies</a>&nbsp;(2-0) worked the first 4 1-3 innings in the circle to earn the pitching victory for the Blue Dragons. Lies allowed just one hit and two unearned runs with three walks and a season-high five strikeouts.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lake_dakota_j57w">Dakota Lake</a>&nbsp;earned her third save with 2 2-3 innings of work. Lake struck out four with three hits and one earned run allowed.

Lake had a huge strikeout in the bottom of the sixth to end the inning with the potential game-tying run at third base.

GAME 1 RECAP –NCTC 5, Hutchinson 0The Blue Dragons had a frustrating game getting out-hit 11-4. The Blue Dragons lined out eight times in the game and hit into two double plays.

🥎 Dragons split doubleheader in Lone Star State

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Baseball Association is hosting a baseball clinic for coaches on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Hacks at 1228 North Halstead in Hutchinson.

"We want everyone to register, so we have a headcount of who is going to come, to make sure we have enough seating," said Andrew Ehling with the&nbsp;Hutchinson Baseball Association. That's at <a href="https://usabdevelops.com/events/15637/usa-baseball-community-clinic-hutchinson-ks">usabdevelops.com</a>. We picked this Sunday, because we knew no football. We talked about doing it earlier. That's not going to be a good idea. We won't get anybody to come. We chose this first Sunday after the Super Bowl, hoping we could get a good attendance."

The Hutchinson Baseball Association is aligning itself with USA Baseball's American Development Model.

⚾ Baseball Clinic coming up Sunday

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma – The Hutchinson Community College baseball team scored 12 runs in its final two at-bats Thursday to earn a run-rule victory in Game 1 of a three-game series with Rose State on Friday.

Three different Hutchinson players drove in three or more runs each as the Blue Dragons pulled away to defeat the Raiders 15-2 in eight innings at Rose State.

The Blue Dragons improved to 6-0 to start the season, the first 6-0 start since 2006. Rose State fell to 6-7. Games 2 and 3 of the series will be Saturday at Noon and 2:30 p.m. in Midwest City.

With only six hits through six innings, the Blue Dragons racked up nine of their 15-total hits in the final two innings.

Kael Babin, Luis Pimental-Guerrero and Blake Bradford had three hits each to lead the Blue Dragons.

Babin was 3 for 5 with a triple from the leadoff spot. He scored three runs and drove in a career-best three runs. Pimental-Guerrero was 3 for 5 with three RBIS. Braford was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs.

Maher was 2 for 5 with a double, triple and four runs batted in. Colin Cymbalista went 2 for 5 with a season-high four RBIs.

The Blue Dragons had a season-high 10 stolen bases on Friday, which is the third most in a single game in Blue Dragon history. Jordan Tucker had a game-high three steals. Babin and Cymbalista had two each. Bradford, Cooper Wesslund and Tyson Vassart also had stolen bases.

This is the second time this season the Blue Dragons have had at least eight steals in a game.

The Blue Dragons out-hit Roses State 15-5 and the Raiders committed four errors.

Starting pitcher Ethan Giesbrecht (1-0) earned his first win of the season with five strong innings. He allowed five hits and two runs (one earned run) with five strikeouts and a walk. Cole Toureau tossed three hitless innings for his second save of the season. Toureau struck out three and walked two.

Leading only 3-2 after six innings, the Blue Dragons scored four runs in the seventh inning and eight runs in the eighth inning to bring the game to the brink of a rule-run ending.

⚾ Blue Dragons take Game 1 at Rose State

At halftime of Saturday's Hutchinson-Butler men's basketball game, the Blue Dragon Quarterback Club Hall of Fame Class of 2024 will be enshrined.

The Hall of Fame welcomes three new members this year in Jamie Patrick (women's basketball), Kadeem Allen (men's basketball) and Kyle Simonds (baseball).

Unfortunately, only Patrick will be able to attend the ceremony. Allen is currently playing professionally in Italy and Simonds is the pitching coach for Sam Houston State University, which is opening the 2024 season this weekend against Oklahoma State.

KADEEM ALLEN - Men's Basketball 2012-2014Allen was a two-time NJCAA All-American, two-time NABC All-American and two-time Jayhawk Conference Player of the Year. In 2014, Allen was named the NJCAA and NABC National Player of the Year.

Allen ranked third on the Blue Dragon career scoring list with 1,425 points; behind Roy "Pooh" Hairston (1,687) and Tyrone Jones (1,461). He was the 13th member of the Blue Dragon 1,000-point club.

Allen also ranked fifth first in career free throws (476), career free-throw attempts (592), second in career assists (324), second in career steals (157), tied for third in career scoring average (21.6 points per game) and fifth in career made field goals (271).

Allen led the 2013 Blue Dragons to the program's first Region VI Tournament championship since 1997 and led an injury-ravaged 2014 Hutchinson team to the Region VI Tournament championship game.As a freshman, Allen's Blue Dragon rankings are sixth in scoring (571), fifth in scoring average (17.3 points per game), 11th in made field goals (190), second in made free throws (160), eighth in assists (130) and second in steals (81).

After Hutchinson, Allen played at the University of Arizona. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the NBA Draft. He also played for the New York Knicks as well as internationally in his pro career.

JAMIE PATRICK - Women's Basketball 2013-2014Patrick concluded her Blue Dragon career as the program's all-time and single-season scoring leader (now No. 3 on the scoring list). Patrick and her 2014 sophomore teammates finished their careers with a 71-3 record and finished of third place and national runner-up in two trips to the NJCAA Tournament.

She was a third-team NJCAA All-American in 2014 as well as a Jayhawk Conference first-team All-Conference player. She was a second-team all-Jayhawk Conference player as a freshman in 2013.

A 5-10 guard from Hutchinson Central Christian, Patrick as the 2013-14 Lady Dragons' leading scorer averaging 17.4 points per game (seventh best in team history for a single season). Patrick totaled a record 626 points as a sophomore, shooting 52.7 percent from the field overall, 38.2 percent from 3-point range and 79.5 percent from the free-throw line. Patrick also averaged 5.8 rebounds and had 84 assists, 67 steals and 16 blocked shots.

Named to the NJCAA Tournament All-Tournament team, the two-time all-Jayhawk West performer was named the conference's Player of the Week twice. Patrick earned one NJCAA National player of the week honor in 2014.

Her 1,098 career points surpassed Heather Robben's career record total this season. Patrick also ranked second in made field goals (397), field-goal attempts (763), overall field-goal percentage (52.0 percent), sixth in career 3-pointers (132), third in career 3-point attempts (332), fourth in 3-point percentage (39.8 percent) and fifth in career free throws (79.3 percent). Patrick finished with 404 rebounds, 170 assists, 119 steals and 41 blocked shots.

Patrick went onto play at Colorado State and later was a Blue Dragon assistant women's basketball coach.

KYLE SIMONDS - Baseball 2013-2014Simonds was a two-year starting pitcher for the Blue Dragons in 2013 and 2014. His sophomore season in 2014 was one of the best seasons in program history.

Simonds was named the 2014 NJCAA National Pitcher of the Year as well as the Jayhawk West Pitcher of the Year. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound sophomore right-handed starting pitcher from Grand Island, Nebraska, was also first-team All-Jayhawk West and All-Region VI honors being named the Region VI Gold Glove winner as a pitcher.

Simonds finished the 2014 season as the national leader in pitching wins posting a 13-0 record in 13 starts. He becomes 11th Blue Dragon starting pitcher to post an undefeated season (record of 5-0 or better). He set a team season record for wins and best start to a season by a starting pitcher.

The Blue Dragon ace finished with a season earned-run average of 2.20. He set team records for strikeouts in a season with 103 (sixth in the NJCAA) and tied team season records for complete games (9) and shutouts (3). Simonds was second in the nation in complete games and fourth in the nation in shutouts.

In a team season-record 94 innings pitched, Simonds allowed just 75 hits, 32 runs, 23 earned runs and walked just 12. Opponents hit just .210 against Simonds in 2014.

Simonds had six games of 10 or more strikeout, including a career-best 13 against Allen in Game 1 of the Region VI Tournament opening-round series at Hobart-Detter Field.

The future Texas A&amp;M pitcher finished his Blue Dragon career with a 16-4 record and a 3.02 earned-run average. He is tied for fourth with Craig Reed (1999-2000) and Lewick (2009-10) for fourth on the career wins list. His ERA is 13th best in team history.

He threw 128 career innings (ranks seventh on HutchCC's career list). His 123 career strikeouts rank sixth best in Hutchinson history. His 10 complete games rank No. 5 on the career list and his three shutouts tie for fourth best in a career.

After a standout two-year career at Texas A&amp;M, which included a no-hitter against Vanderbilt, Simonds was a 14th-round draft pick of the Washington Nationals in 2016.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound sophomore right-handed starting pitcher from Grand Island, Nebraska, was also first-team All-Jayhawk West and All-Region VI honors being named the Region VI Gold Glove winner as a pitcher.Simonds finished the 2014 season as the national leader in pitching wins posting a 13-0 record in 13 starts. He becomes 11th Blue Dragon starting pitcher to post an undefeated season (record of 5-0 or better). He set a team season record for wins and best start to a season by a starting pitcher.The Blue Dragon ace finished with a season earned-run average of 2.20. He set team records for strikeouts in a season with 103 (sixth in the NJCAA) and tied team season records for complete games (9) and shutouts (3). Simonds was second in the nation in complete games and fourth in the nation in shutouts.In a team season-record 94 innings pitched, Simonds allowed just 75 hits, 32 runs, 23 earned runs and walked just 12. Opponents hit just .210 against Simonds in 2014.Simonds had six games of 10 or more strikeout, including a career-best 13 against Allen in Game 1 of the Region VI Tournament opening-round series at Hobart-Detter Field.The future Texas A&amp;M pitcher finished his Blue Dragon career with a 16-4 record and a 3.02 earned-run average. He is tied for fourth with Craig Reed (1999-2000) and Lewick (2009-10) for fourth on the career wins list. His ERA is 13th best in team history.He threw 128 career innings (ranks seventh on HutchCC's career list). His 123 career strikeouts rank sixth best in Hutchinson history. HutchCC Quarterback Club Hall of Fame class to be inducted Saturday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — &nbsp;The Hutchinson High Salthawk basketball teams both earned big victories over the Campus Colts on Friday in front a a huge crowd at the Salthawk Activity Center.

The Salthawk girls bounced back from a tough loss to Maize South on Tuesday to defeat the winless Campus Colts 58-32 while the Hutch High boys had to fight and claw their way back into the game after trailing 33-24 at the half to win, 69-62.&nbsp;

Both wins kept the Salthawk hopes alive to host at least one home court game when sub-state playoffs start on Feb. 27.&nbsp;

Hutch High fell behind early to the Colts but a strong final four minute run had the Salthawks on top 16-10 at the end of the first quarter and 33 -18 at the half. 

The Salthawks had another strong third quarter with Kaia Smith scoring eight of her 15 points in the third perior.

Besides Smith's 15, Grace Posch had 15, Rechel Tomac added 11. Azariah Dawes seven, four each for Kolbie Craft and Ava Krone and Lily Rodriguez added two.

Campus was paced by Addison Wood with 10 points, Kenzie Lever came off the bench to score eight, Aliah Sanchez six and Madilyn Harris added five along with Emilyh Dedeau five.

Hutch High (11-7) travels to Derby (14-3) Tuesday while Campus visits Maize South.

Hutch High rode the hot hand of Tai Clark's 15 points to place four Salthawks in double figures to rally after trailing at the half by nine points 33-24 to win over the Colts 69-62.

Hutch totally turned things around in the 3rd quarter with Clark scoring nine of his 15 in the quarter along with Terrell King adding five. &nbsp;King was saddled with two early game fouls and sat for much of the first half.

It tood a great defensive effort by the Salthawks in the second half to off set Campus start and Drake University commit Andrell Burton Jr. who put on one heck of a show scoring 33 points on the night. 19 in the second half alone, but Burton was all that Campus had in the third quarter when Hutch made their run to lead 50-47 going into the final period.

Hutch was paced with Clark's 15 followed by Jax Heneha, Terrell King and Devon Spiller all with 11 points each. Jay Lewis added nine, Taishaun Govain six, plus a huge offensive board and save late that allowed the Salthawks another possession after a missed free throw,. Julian Smith added four and Daylee VanSycle two.

Campus was led by Burton's 33, nine points each by Kaason Thomas and Landon Brown, Jacob Weber seven, Drake McPherson two and Hagin Warkins two rounded out the Campus scoring.

Hutch High, now 12-6 travel to Derby on Tuesday while Campus (11-7) visits Maize South.

Hutchinson closes out the regular season on the road at Derby and Newton in the upcoming week. sub-state assignments will be announced by KSHSAA on Feb. 24. The Salthawks are still hoping for a home court game on Feb. 27.

2 juveniles charged in mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Authorities say two juveniles have been charged with crimes connected to the mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl rally. A news release from the Jackson County Family Court on Friday said the juveniles are being detained in the county's Juvenile Detention Center on gun-related and resisting arrest charges. The release said additional charges are expected as the investigation continues. No further information was released. A mother of two was killed and 22 people were injured by gunfire Wednesday afternoon, when shots erupted amid the throng of fans gathered at a rally outside Union Station after a parade through the city

Tiger Woods withdraws from Riviera with flu symptoms. His 2024 debut lasts only 24 holes

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tiger Woods returned to the PGA Tour and lasted only 24 holes. Woods withdrew Friday at the Genesis Invitational after hitting his tee shot on the seventh hole. Woods was coping with flu-like symptoms and was dehydrated. He was treated with IV fluids and was doing better. Woods was 1-over par for the round and projected just outside the cut when he asked for a cart and was driven off the course. Later, a Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance and ladder truck were parked outside the clubhouse. PGA Tour officials said the paramedics delivered IV bags.

NFL suspends Raiders backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo for violating PEDs policy

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Las Vegas Raiders backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been suspended by the NFL for the first two games of next season for violating the performance-enhancing drugs policy of the league and NFL Players Association. ESPN also reported the Raiders are expected to release Garoppolo next month before an $11.25 million roster bonus kicks in. Garoppolo's days in Las Vegas appeared over at midseason when then-interim coach Antonio Pierce replaced him with rookie Aidan O'Connell for the rest of the season. Pierce became the Raiders' full-time coach last month and the Raiders also hired Tom Telesco as their general manager.

Toyota takes high hopes into Daytona 500 but weather may affect 'The Great American Race'

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — After a dismal showing in time trials for Sunday's season-opening Daytona 500, the Toyota camp roared back and swept the two 150-mile qualifying races that set the field for "The Great American Race." The wins by Tyler Reddick and Christopher Bell marked the first sweep of the Daytona qualifying races for Toyota since 2014 and have given the automaker hope of a fourth Daytona 500 win. Joey Logano of Team Penske starts on the pole in the first time a Roger Penske car will lead the field to green at the Daytona 500. Rain is expected Sunday and could disrupt the event.

Jordan Spieth disqualified from Riviera for signing for wrong score

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jordan Spieth had a bad finish to the Genesis Invitational. And then it got even worse. Spieth was disqualified for signing for a 3 on the par-3 fourth hole at Riviera. He actually had a 4. It's the first time in 263 starts on the PGA Tour that Spieth has been disqualified. That leaves 51 players for the weekend at Riviera. This signature event had a 36-hole cut to top 50 and ties and anyone within 10 shots of the lead. Spieth would have been 10 shots behind. In a post on X, Spieth owned up to the mistake, saying he takes "full responsibility."

Patrick Cantlay builds a 5-shot lead at Riviera. Tiger Woods makes early exit with flu symptoms

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Patrick Cantlay is cruising at Riviera. Tiger Woods left early with flu symptoms. Cantlay started with an eagle and never let anyone close to him. He shot a 65 and now has a five-shot lead going into the weekend. Woods played six holes, hit his tee shot on No. 7 and then got into a cart. He withdrew and spent the next two hours in the clubhouse getting IV treatments. Woods and most of his gallery wound up leaving early. Cantlay played his college golf at UCLA. He leads over Jason Day, Mackenzie Hughes and Luke List. Jordan Spieth played with Cantlay and was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard.

Paige Bueckers and Geno Auriemma both announce they will spend at least one more year at UConn

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — UConn star Paige Bueckers and coach Geno Auriemma both say they will be back at the school next season. A senior academically, Bueckers made the announcement during senior night ceremonies Friday following the team's 85-44 win over Georgetown. Telling the crowd she wanted to "address the elephant in the room," Bueckers said, "this will not be my last senior night." Auriemma also ended any speculation that he might retire, saying he too would be back for at least one more year. He joked that he was planning to come back next year as well, until Bueckers made her announcement. But he then added that he would be back.

Flyers, Rangers, Devils test the ice at MetLife Stadium in practices for Stadium Series games

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Things seemed to be very relaxed as the Philadelphia Flyers, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils took turns testing the ice on the recently installed rink at MetLife Stadium in preparation for two big games in the NHL's Stadium Series this weekend. Instead of loosening up for the workouts, each of the teams skated onto the ice and gathered for team photos. The practices were a little different. The Flyers, who had arrived after playing a game in Toronto on Thursday night, seemed to be stretching their legs and getting used to the ice a day before facing the Devils on Saturday night.

'Malcolm in the Middle' star Frankie Muniz back at Daytona and rising up the NASCAR racing ladder

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Actor Frankie Muniz will try to make his Xfinity Series debut in the No. 35 Ford for Joey Gase Racing at Daytona International Speedway. Muniz finished fourth in the entry-level ARCA Series last year and gained enough confidence and respect to start climbing the NASCAR ladder. The deal to move up came together last week and has been less than ideal for the "Malcolm in the Middle" star. He ended up meeting several crew members for the first time Friday and hasn't practiced live pit stops. Muniz still needs to qualify for Saturday's race. It's a potentially daunting task considering six of the 44 entrants will be sent home.

Bennedict Mathurin caps Pacers' All-Star celebration with Rising Stars MVP, title in 26-13 win

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana guard Bennedict Mathurin put on a show for Pacers fans Friday night, earning the Rising Stars MVP award after scoring 13 points in a 26-13 victory in the championship game. San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama didn't make it that far. Despite scoring 11 points, his team was eliminated in the second game. Jalen Williams, Mathurin's teammate, scored the other 13 points to give coach Jalen Rose the title. In addition to Mathurin's big night — he heard "M-V-P! M-V-P!" chants while scoring a game-high 18 in the first game — Rose and coach Detlef Schrempf, both former Pacers players also advanced to the championship round. And Indiana rookie Oscar Tshiebwe led Schrempf's team with eight points in the title game.

Woods withdrew Friday at the Genesis Invitational after hitting his tee shot on the seventh hole. Woods was coping with flu-like symptoms and was dehydrated. He was treated with IV fluids and was doing better. Woods was 1-over par for the round and projected just outside the cut when he asked for a cart and was driven off the course. Later, a Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance and ladder truck were parked outside the clubhouse. PGA Tour officials said the paramedics delivered IV bags.NFL suspends Raiders backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo for violating PEDs policyHENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Las Vegas Raiders backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been suspended by the NFL for the first two games of next season for violating the performance-enhancing drugs policy of the league and NFL Players Association. ESPN also reported the Raiders are expected to release Garoppolo next month before an $11.25 million roster bonus kicks in. ⚾ Shockers blast Little Rock in season opener

WICHITA, Kan. — The Buhler High School Crusaders bowling teams swept the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division III and IV team titles on Thursday at Bowlero.&nbsp;

The Crusader girls bowled a 2986 series, over 500 pins more than second place Circle (2424). Buhler was led by senior Teigan Nielsen who bowled a 792 series, including a perfect 300 game.

Nielsen won the girls individual title by nearly 200 pins. Teammate Kenzie Welch finished in third place with a 547 series, while Sloane Adkins also placed in the top 10 with a 452 series, good enough for ninth place.

The Crusader boys edged out Andale by 64 pins to claim the title, 3197-3133.&nbsp;

Buhler junior Malachi Willis won the individual title with a 666 series, 17 more than Alex Wheat of McPherson. Rylan Klug (626, 6th) and Kohen Herrington (599, 7th) each finished in the top 10, as well for the Crusaders.

The Crusaders will now prepare for 4-1A regionals, which will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20 at The Alley in Hutchinson.

🎳 Nielsens perfect game helps Crusaders sweep AVCTL 3 & 4 titles

TISHOMINGO, Oklahoma – The No. 17-ranked Hutchinson Community College softball team lost its first games of the 2024 season on Thursday, dropping a doubleheader to NJCAA Division II power Murray State College.

Murray State rallied from three runs down to defeat the Blue Dragons 4-3 in Game 1. The Aggies jumped out to a five-run lead in Game 2vand held off a furious Hutchinson rally in a 6-4 win over the Blue Dragons.

Hutchinson is now 6-2 to start the season. The Blue Dragons play North Central Texas in a doubleheader at Noon and 2 p.m. on Friday to close out the four-game road trip in Gainesville, Texas.

Sophomore third baseman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/sandoval_olivia_ydnf">Olivia Sandoval</a>&nbsp;extended her consecutive game hitting streak to 24 games dating back to the final 16 games last season. Sandoval had a first-inning infield single in Game 1 to extended the streak to 23 games. She was 2 for 3 in the second game, getting a single in her third plate appearance to up the second-longest hitting streak in Blue Dragon history to 24 games.

GAME 1 RECAP – Murray State 4, Hutchinson 3The Blue Dragons built a 3-0 lead through four innings in Game 1 and pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lake_dakota_j57w">Dakota Lake</a>&nbsp;allowed just one hit through her first five innings.

The Dragons struck for a pair of runs after&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/darnell_jaeleigh_5kwl">Jaeleigh Darnell</a>'s sacrifice fly scored&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/backhaus_bailey_6uk7">Bailey Backhaus</a>&nbsp;and Lake's RBI groundout scored Sandoval.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lozoya_tamara_njkf">Tamara Lozoya</a>'s two-out RBI single in the fourth scored&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/backhaus_brooke_06ze">Brooke Backhaus</a>&nbsp;to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead.

Murray State, the NJCAA Division II national runner-up, rallied with a four-run sixth inning, collecting four hits in the inning. The Dragons were a strike away from a win, but Aggie first baseman Gloria Lute hit a two-out, two-run single to give Murray State a 4-3 lead.

Lake (1-1) was strong in her first career complete game. She worked six innings and allowed five hits, four runs, two earned runs with six strikeouts and only one walk. She retired 14 of the first 17 batters she faced.

Lozoya went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Hutchinson's six-hit attack. All six hits were singles and 4 of the six hits were infield singles.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/backhaus_bailey_6uk7">Bailey Backhaus</a>, Sandoval, Darnell and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/backhaus_brooke_06ze">Brooke Backhaus</a>&nbsp;had the other Blue Dragon hits.

GAME 2 RECAP – Murray State 6, Hutchinson 4The Blue Dragons took a quick 1-0 lead on&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/mastin_alexis_jxjs">Alexis Mastin</a>'s sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning. Murray State took charge with three runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the bottom of the fourth to build a 6-1 lead.

Hutchinson climbed back in the game with a three-run fifth inning.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lies_korri_k1mj">Korri Lies</a>&nbsp;started the inning with a bases-loaded RBI single. Lozoya had an RBI single to left and Sandoval drew a bases-loaded walk to pull within 6-4.

The Blue Dragons out-hit Murray State 13-10, but left a season-high 15 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the second, fifth and seventh innings.

The Aggies jumped out to a five-run lead in Game 2vand held off a furious Hutchinson rally in a 6-4 win over the Blue Dragons.Hutchinson is now 6-2 to start the season. The Blue Dragons play North Central Texas in a doubleheader at Noon and 2 p.m. on Friday to close out the four-game road trip in Gainesville, Texas.Sophomore third baseman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/sandoval_olivia_ydnf">Olivia Sandoval</a>&nbsp;extended her consecutive game hitting streak to 24 games dating back to the final 16 games last season.
