WICHITA, Kan. - Lauren Lucas made her much-awaited return to the diamond for Wichita State softball this past weekend, and it looked like she hadn't missed a beat. Lucas was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after a stellar opening weekend in Phoenix.
Over five games, Lucas hit .667 (10-for-15) with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBIs and eight runs scored. The Little Elm, Texas, native produced a four-hit game against Montana where she notched a double, home run and four RBIs, while scoring three times. This is her third AAC Player of the Week honor and first since 2023.
Chloe Barber earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honorable Mention list after a 2-0 weekend in the circle. In 13.2 innings, Barber allowed no earned runs and struck out 18. In her season debut against Grand Canyon, she tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts and just one walk.
Wichita State will have its hands full this weekend when they travel to Florida for the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational, Feb. 13-15.
