MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas State head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/jerome-tang/2353">Jerome Tang</a>&nbsp;made another key addition to his team for the 2024-25 season with the signing of NJCAA All-American guard&nbsp;Chimobi (Mobi) Ikegwuruka(Galway, Ireland/Ellsworth [Iowa] Community College)&nbsp;to a Financial Aid Agreement on Friday afternoon (May 17).

The 6-foot-6, 205-pound guard who has experience playing internationally, including with the Irish U16 National Team, arrives at K-State after a redshirt freshman season at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa in 2023-24. He averaged a double-double (19.0 ppg., 10.3 rpg.) in leading the Panthers to a fourth-place finish at the NJCAA Division II Championship with a 29-8 record. It was the school's first national tournament appearance in 38 seasons and their highest national finish since 1977 when they placed third.

"Ikegwuruka was a 2024 NJCAA Division II Second Team All-American and a First Team All-Region XI performer at Ellsworth, playing for head coach&nbsp;Bryan Bender. He played in 21 games with 13 starts for the Panthers, averaging 19.0 points on 59.4 percent (155-of-261) shooting, including 50 percent (3-of-6) from 3-point range, to go with 10.3 rebounds, 2.2 blocks, 2.1 steals and 1.5 assists in 26.9 minutes per game. He led the team in several categories, including scoring, field goal percentage, rebounding, steals and blocks.

In addition to his All-America and All-Region honors, Ikegwuruka was named a Fab 50 Freshman by&nbsp;JUCORecruiting.com.

Ikegwuruka scored 20 or more points in 13 games, including a career-high 27 points on 10-of-16 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws at Western Iowa Tech on Dec. 9, 2023. He rattled off seven consecutive 20-point games to end the regular season. He also collected 10 double-doubles, including in back-to-back games against Monroe Community College and Milwaukee Area Tech at the NJCAA Division II Championship. He posted 21 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Milwaukee Area Tech that sent Ellsworth to the Final Four for the first time since 1977.

Ikegwuruka nearly averaged a double-double in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play, posting 19.3 points on 58.8 percent (120-of-204) shooting with 9.8 rebounds per game.

Ikegwuruka has a variety of international experience, having played for the Irish U16 National Team at the 2019 FIBA European U16 Championships as well as for two club teams in the Czech Republic. In 8 games at the FIBA U16 Championships, he averaged 11.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 1.4 assists in 23.1 minutes per game. He scored in double figures in 4 games, including 25 points against the Republic of Georgia on August 9, 2019. He followed that with a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) against Portugal on August 10, 2019.

Ikegwuruka played for Czech U19 squads – GBA Lions Jindrichuv Hradec and Sojky Pelhrimov – as well as the main GBA Lions in the 1Liga from 2020-23. He played in 51 games for GBA Lions, Sojky P and Pelhrimov at various levels from 2020-22 with 44 of those 51 games coming during the 2021-22 season. His best stretch came in 13 games with Pelhrimov, averaging 14.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.8 steals in 26.4 minutes per game.

Ikeywuruka played in 7 games for the GBA Lions Jindrichuv Hradec in the 1Liga in 2022-23, averaging 14.1 points on 55.1 percent (38-of-69) shooting with 8.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks in 21.7 minutes per game. He produced 3 20-point games, including a season-best 28 points against SP Basket on 11-of-13 field goals and 6-of-7 free throws on Dec. 9, 2022, to go with 3 double-doubles. &nbsp;

Ikegwuruka is the seventh player to sign with the Wildcats for the 2024-25 season, including the first junior college player. He joins Division I transfers&nbsp;Dug McDaniel(Washington, D.C./St. Paul VI Catholic VI/Michigan),&nbsp;Christian (C.J.) TULSA, Okla.—The Wichita Wind Surge had their four-game win streak snapped 8-6 against the Tulsa Drillers. After bringing the leading run to the plate in the top of the ninth, Tulsa turned a game-ending triple play to gain their first win of the series.

Carson McCusker&nbsp;brought home&nbsp;Emmanuel Rodriguez&nbsp;on a sacrifice fly to left field with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the first.&nbsp;Tanner Schobel&nbsp;added his sixth RBI of the series on a double to right center that scored&nbsp;Andrew Cossetti&nbsp;to give the Wind Surge a 2-0 lead. Cossetti doubled the Wind Surge advantage on a two-run home run, his fifth of the year, to left field an inning later.

Tulsa cut the four-run deficit to one in the bottom of the second on a Yeiner Fernandez two-RBI single, and a sacrifice fly against Wichita starter&nbsp;Marco Raya.&nbsp;Alerick Soularie&nbsp;sent a sacrifice fly of his own to right field in the following half-inning to put the Wind Surge ahead 5-3.

The Drillers duo of Brendon Davis and Diego Cartaya slapped solo home runs to the Wind Surge bullpen in the bottom half of the third, tying the game.&nbsp;Noah Cardenas&nbsp;yanked the lead back into Wichita’s hands on a run-scoring double to the left-center gap in the top of the fourth.

The back-and-forth scoring stopped for the time being, with the Wind Surge up 6-5 until Tulsa tallied three runs after the stretch in the bottom of the seventh. ⚾ Wind Surge win streak snapped by game ending triple play

KANSAS CITY (AP) —&nbsp; Cole Ragans allowed two hits in seven scoreless innings, Michael Massey and Maikel Garcia homered and the Kansas City Royals beat Oakland 6-2 on Friday night to extend the Athletics losing streak to a season-high six.

Ragans (3-3) walked two and struck out seven, rebounding from a 9-3 loss at the Los Angeles Angels when he allowed seven runs and eight hits. He has three scoreless starts of at least six innings this season.

Chris Stratton and Matt Sauers finished the four-hitter, the ninth time Oakland has been held to four hits or fewer.

Oakland has been outscored 36-6 during its losing streak, which dropped the A's to 19-28.

“We just need to continue to grind at-bats out and find some offense,” Oakland manager Mark Kotsay said.

Kansas City went ahead in the first when Salvador Perez hit a two-out, run-scoring infield single. Perez was called out by first base umpire Ryan Additon, but a video review ruled Perez beat the throw from third baseman Brett Harris.

Massey hit a two-run homer off Austin Adams and Maikel Garcia a three-run drive against Brandon Bielak in a five-run sixth.

“We were only up 1-0 going into that inning so that was huge,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “Massey gets the homer and things went from there, it was a huge spot in the game.”

Mitch Spence (3-2) gave up one run and five hits in 4 2/3 innings.

“I thought he did a nice job tonight,” Kotsay said. “To only give up one run over 4 2/3 innings and throw 75 pitches, that's a great outing and what was expected. I thought he'd be able to do that.”

Shea Langeliers hit a two-run homer off Sauers in the ninth, his 10th this season.

Oakland activated Bielak, a day after he was acquired from Houston for cash. LHP Hogan Harris was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler is right in the thick of contention at the PGA Championship. That's the only sliver of normalcy on a day that was beyond belief. The world's No. 1 player was in handcuffs and arrested on charges of assault for not following police instructions. They were investigating a fatal accident. He was trying to get into Valhalla. He was in jail. And then Scheffler shot a 66. Xander Schauffele had a 68 and was leading Collin Morikawa by one shot as the second round was ending. Tiger Woods missed the cut. They were mere footnotes.

Siakam helps Pacers beat Knicks 116-103 in Game 6 to send Eastern Conference semifinals to the limit

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Pascal Siakam scored 25 points and Myles Turner added 17 points to help the Indiana Pacers turned the tables on New York with a 116-103 victory to even the Eastern Conference semifinal at 3-3. The decisive Game 7 will be played Sunday at Madison Square Garden. Indiana outhustled the Knicks after getting dominated on the glass in Game 5 and the difference was obvious as Indiana never trailed in the second half. Jalen Brunson again led the severely short-handed Knicks with 31 points on 11 of 26 shooting. Josh Hart did not finish the game because of abdominal soreness after playing nearly 31 minutes.

Duchene scores winner in 2nd OT, Stars advance to Western Conference final with 2-1 win over Avs

DENVER (AP) — Matt Duchene scored at 11:42 of the second overtime after being involved in a play that led to a goal disallowed for goaltender interference in the first OT and the Dallas Stars advanced to the Western Conference final with a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche in Game 6. Duchene, a former draft pick of the Avalanche, secured a loose puck in front of the net and sent it over a sprawled out Alexandar Georgiev. Duchene took off down the ice and slid on his knees in celebration. Dallas advances to face either Edmonton or Vancouver. It's the second straight trip to the conference final for the Stars, who lost last season to eventual Stanley Cup champion Vegas. Jake Oettinger was stellar all night in making 29 saves.

Panthers beat Bruins with late game-winner, advance to Eastern Conference final

BOSTON (AP) — Gustav Forsling scored the tiebreaking goal on a rebound with 1:33 left to lead the Florida Panthers to a 2-1 victory and eliminate the Boston Bruins from their second-round playoff series in six games. Bobrovsky stopped 22 shots for the Panthers. They advance to the Eastern Conference finals, where they will face the New York Rangers. Game 1 is on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. Anton Lundell scored for the Panthers and also set up the game-winner. The Panthers also knocked the Bruins out of the playoffs after their record-setting regular-season last year. Jeremy Swayman stopped 26 shots for the Bruins. Pavel Zacha scored Boston's only goal.

Scottie Scheffler arrested outside PGA Championship, then returns and climbs leaderboard

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Masters champion Scottie Scheffler was arrested Friday morning on his way to the PGA Championship. Stunning images showed him handcuffed as he was led to a police car. He was arrested for second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and not following police directions. He was booked into jail at 7:28 a.m. He was released and arrived at Valhalla at 9:12 a.m. Police say a pedestrian was hit by a bus on the road leading to Valhalla Golf Club. ESPN says Scheffler drove past a police car and was chased down and cuffed.

Ohtani hits 2-run homer and scores go-ahead run on his special day in LA as Dodgers beat Reds 7-3

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani slugged a two-run homer and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning when the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied after blowing a 3-0 lead to beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-3. The Los Angeles city council earlier proclaimed May 17 as Shohei Ohtani Day in the city for as long as the Japanese two-way superstar plays for the Dodgers. He signed a record $700 million, 10-year contract in December. The Dodgers also got home runs from Mookie Betts and Jason Heyward, who had a two-run shot after coming off the injured list earlier in the day. Cincinnati's Stuart Fairchild and Tyler Stephenson went deep.

Paul Skenes puts on dazzling show in 2nd major league start for Pittsburgh Pirates

CHICAGO (AP) — This time, Paul Skenes brought his fastball. Not the one he struggled to command during an uneven major league debut. The dazzling one, the triple-digit heat that goes exactly where he wants it to go. The result was the same as it ever was for the big right-hander. Skenes turned in a dominant performance during his second major league start, striking out 11 while pitching six no-hit innings for the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 9-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs. He allowed just one baserunner on a full-count walk by Michael Busch in the fifth.

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — The Las Vegas Aces have sold out 15 of their 20 home games. It's the most in WNBA history. Las Vegas in March became the first team to sell out its allotment of season tickets. The only games where individual tickets remain at Michelob Ultra Arena are Tuesday against the Phoenix Mercury, Aug. 30 against the Atlanta Dream, Sept. 15 against the Connecticut Sun and Sept. 19 against the Dallas Wings. Tickets also remain for the Sept. 3 game against the Chicago Sky at T-Mobile Arena. The Aces are chasing a third consecutive championship.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) —&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/masters-2024-augusta-national-8f9bcddc2f3c8aa4298a83c016286918">Masters champion Scottie Scheffler</a>&nbsp;was arrested Friday morning on his way to the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/scottie-scheffler-pga-championship-dc43b1facb4b7c5e6a8c9b29159a6ae2">PGA Championship</a>, with stunning images showing him handcuffed as he was taken to jail for not following police orders during a pedestrian fatality investigation.

In a span of four hours, the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/scottie-scheffler-tiger-woods-players-championship-387cadc831f8bf7f63e00673166d6add">top-ranked golfer</a>&nbsp;in the world was arrested wearing gym shorts and a T-shirt, dressed in an orange jail shirt for his mug shot, stretched in a jail cell to stay loose and returned to Valhalla Golf Club dressed and ready for his 10:08 a.m. tee time.

Louisville Metro Police Department said Scheffler was booked on four charges, including second-degree assault of a police officer after his vehicle dragged an officer to the ground.

Scheffler said the incident was a “big misunderstanding amid a chaotic situation.”

“I feel like my head is still spinning. I can't really explain what happened this morning,” Scheffler said after remarkably posting another 5-under 66 that kept him in the mix for a second straight major championship.

He said he could not offer specifics on the arrest because it was under investigation. In a statement released before his round, he said never intended to disregard police instructions outside the entrance to the club.

“I definitely never imagined ever going to jail, and I definitely never imagined going to jail the morning before one of my tee times for sure,” Scheffler said. “I was grateful to be able to go out there and compete and yeah, it was definitely a nice round of golf.”

His attorney, Steve Romines in Louisville, also described it as a misunderstanding and told The Associated Press, “We will litigate the case as it goes.”

Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg said tournament vendor John Mills was the pedestrian killed and offered sympathies to his family. Greenberg also said the incident involving Scheffler and LMPD was “unfortunate” and that the police department was investigating.

Traffic was backed up for about a mile in both directions on the only road that leads to Valhalla in the morning darkness with light rain, with dozens of police vehicles flashing red-and-blue lights near the entrance.

Police approached the long line of cars waiting to say a pedestrian had been struck by a bus while crossing the road in a lane that was dedicated to tournament traffic.

Mills, 69, was working for a PGA Championship vendor. He was pronounced dead at the scene about 5:09 a.m.

ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington witnessed the incident and said Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world who was to start the second round at 8:48 a.m., drove past a police officer a little after 6 a.m. in his SUV with markings on the door indicating it was a PGA Championship vehicle.

The officer screamed at him to stop and then grabbed onto the car until Scheffler stopped about 10 yards later, Darlington said. The officer, identified in the arrest report as Det. Gillis, was dragged “to the ground” and suffered “pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist” after the car “accelerated forward,” according to Louisville police.

Scheffler was booked at 7:28 a.m. — about 2 1/2 hours before his updated tee time after the second round was delayed because of the fatality. In addition to the assault charge, he was booked on charges of third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

“The main thing is he was proceeding exactly as he was directed in a marked vehicle with credentials," Romines said. “He didn’t do anything intentionally wrong.”

The officer was dressed in a high visibility reflective jacket when he stopped Scheffler’s car to give instructions, the arrest sheet said. Gillis was taken to the hospital for his injuries.

Darlington said police pulled Scheffler out of the car, pushed him up against the car and immediately placed him in handcuffs.

“Scheffler was then walked over to the police car, placed in the back, in handcuffs, very stunned about what was happening, looked toward me as he was in those handcuffs and said, ‘Please help me,’" Darlington said. “He very clearly did not know what was happening in the situation. It moved very quickly, very rapidly, very aggressively.”

Scheffler was released by police and returned to the course at 9:12 a.m. He made his way to the practice area around 9:30 a.m. and was welcomed by fans — one shouted “free Scottie!” and others arrived later wearing “Free Scottie” T-shirts.

Scheffler seemed like his normal, relaxed self, sharing a few laughs on the driving range.

“I was never angry. I was just in shock,” Scheffler said. “I was shaking the whole time. I was shaking for like an hour. It was definitely a new feeling for me.”

He could see from a TV in the jail that tee times were pushed back 1 hour, 20 minutes because of the traffic situation, and realized when an officer knocked on the door and said, “Let's go,” that he had a chance to play.

He made birdie on his first hole of the day after sticking his approach shot to 3 feet.

Darlington, the ESPN reporter, said police were not sure who Scheffler was at first. He said an officer asked him to leave and when he identified himself being with the media, he was told, “There's nothing you can do. He's going to jail.”

Darlington said another police officer later approached with a notepad and asked if he knew the name of the person they put in handcuffs.

Scheffler said he never told police who he was except to say, “I'm sorry, I'm just trying to get to my tee time.”

Louisville police have attracted negative national attention in recent years after the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor in 2020 and a federal investigation into its policing practices.

A Department of Justice report released last year said Louisville officers use excessive force and conduct searches based on invalid warrants. The report said Black motorists in Louisville were more likely to be searched during traffic stops, and officers used neck restraints, police dogs and Tasers against people who posed no imminent threat.

Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman, was shot by officers in who had come to her apartment with a warrant that federal officials later said was falsified.

PGA of America, which runs the PGA Championship, offered sympathies for Mills' family and said in a statement, “As it relates to the incident involving Scottie Scheffler, we are fully cooperating as local authorities review what took place.”

Scheffler is coming off four victories in his last five tournaments, including his second Masters title. He was home in Dallas the last three weeks waiting on the birth of his first child, a son that was born May 8.

Scheffler, who has won four of his last five tournaments, is trying to become only the fifth player since 1960 to win the first two majors of the year.

TULSA, Okla.—The Wichita Wind Surge won their fourth straight game in a back-and-forth scoring affair by an 11-8 final over the Tulsa Drillers. The contest saw a trio of Wind Surge hitters collect multiple RBIs as eight of their nine hitters reached base.

Jake Rucker&nbsp;had a four-RBI night that started on a two-RBI double to left field that dropped off the leather of the Tulsa left fielder in the top of the second.&nbsp;Kala’i Rosario&nbsp;and&nbsp;Aaron Sabato&nbsp;both came in to score on Rucker’s first double of the night.&nbsp;Emmanuel Rodriguez&nbsp;followed with a two-run moonshot to right field to put Wichita ahead 4-0 early on at ONEOK Field.

A pair of home runs pushed Tulsa ahead in the bottom of the fourth. Brendon Davis launched a two-run shot to left off a looping breaking ball before Austin Beck hit a go-ahead grand slam against Wind Surge starter&nbsp;Jaylen Nowlin.

Wichita got six runs and their lead back by scoring three each in the opening halves of the sixth and seventh innings. Rucker’s second double got lost in the lights out in right field and found the warning track.&nbsp;Tanner Schobel&nbsp;came home on the play to cut the deficit to one at 6-5. Sabato scored on a fielder’s choice, and Rucker trotted in as the go-ahead run on a wild pitch for a 7-6 Wind Surge lead.

Schobel sent one to the left-center alley for another two-RBI double for Wichita to start the scoring in the top of the seventh. Rucker tallied his third hit and fourth RBI on a bouncing single to center.

The visiting ballclub loaded the bases in the top of the eighth, and Schobel drew a walk to improve the Wichita lead to 11-6. Tulsa matched the Wind Surge by filling the basepaths in the bottom half of the frame and adding two runs on a single and a passed ball.

After the Drillers sent the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth,&nbsp;Jared Solomon&nbsp;struck out Austin Beck to end the game.

Scott Engler&nbsp;improved to 3-0 on the season, throwing two innings of scoreless relief with a walk and a strikeout. Solomon picked up his third save with Wichita.

HOBBS, New Mexico – Led by freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2023-24/bios/box_charlie_jgcb">Charlie Box</a>'s second under-par round of the tournament, the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team posted its best round of the 2024 NJCAA Division I Championships in Thursday's third round.

Shooting a 4-over-par 288 on Thursday, the Blue Dragons are tied with Indian Hills for ninth place after 54 holes at 870.

The Blue Dragons have improved in each round this week with team rounds of 293, 289 and 288.

Hutchinson enters Friday's final round 19 strokes off the pace of tri-team leaders New Mexico Junior College, Midland College and Odessa College. Those teams are at 851. The Dragons are just nine strokes out of fourth place.

Hutchinson has a streak of a program-best three-straight Top 5 national finishes with national championships in 2021 and 2022 and a fifth-place performances last season.

Two Blue Dragons are within reach of earning NJCAA All-America honors with 18 holes to play.

Box carded a 2-under 69 and is tied for fifth place at 4-under 209. Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2023-24/bios/anderson_marco_qoi7">Marco Anderson</a>&nbsp;is tied for 15th at 1-over 2014. Anderson shot a 3-over 74 on Thursday.

The top 18 individuals earn NJCAA All-America honors.

In addition to Box and Anderson, the Blue Dragons counted&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2023-24/bios/razinskas_david_7wz3">David Razinskas</a>' even-par 71 and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2023-24/bios/ross_louis_dfpl">Louis Ross</a>' 74 to post their 288 team score on Thursday.

The Blue Dragons trail Jayhawk Conference and Region 6 rival Dodge City by four strokes entering the final round. The Conquistadors posted a 290 team score on Thursday.

Box was once again steady with four birdies and two bogeys' He parred his final six holes to complete the Back 9 in 2-under par.

Box is tied with McLennan's Nik Blalock at 209. Those golfers sit six strokes off the pace of individual leader Mans Boje of Ranger College, who shot his second-straight 67 on Thursday to lead the tournament at 10-under 203.

Anderson has mixed results in his third round. He had three birdies, but six bogeys to complete his round 3-over par. Anderson is part of an eight-way tie for 15th place through 54 holes.

Razinskas posted his best round of the national tournament at even-par 71. Playing 1-under through 10 holes, Razinskas' bogeyed No. 11 and suffered a double bogey on No. 15, but got his round back to even with a clutch birdie on No. 17. Razinskas is tied for 86th at 230.

Ross had his best round of the tournament at 3-over 74 with four birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey. Ross is tied for 80th at 229.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2023-24/bios/thissen_kenton_qoy2">Keaton Thissen</a>&nbsp;had a tough start playing the Front 9 in 6-over par. He played the Back 9 at even par for a 77 on Thursday. Thissen is tied for 69th at 226.

WICHITA – A pair of relief pitchers twirled six strong innings to help the No. 10-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team survive in the elimination bracket of the Plains District (Region VI) Tournament on Thursday at Eck Stadium.

The second-seeded Blue Dragons scored five early runs and the bullpen made those runs stand as Hutchinson defeated Dodge City 5-4 in a first-round elimination bracket matchup.

The victory keeps the Blue Dragons' season alive. Hutchinson will play host to No. 3 seed Kansas City in a second-round elimination bracket game at 1 p.m. Friday. If the Blue Dragons win that game, they would play again at 7 p.m. against the Butler/Cowley winner – that game is Friday at 10 a.m.

Now 47-12 for the season, the Blue Dragons' win on Thursday tied a school record with the 2002 and 2017 teams for the most wins in a single season.

With the Blue Dragons leading 5-3 after three innings, Hutchinson relievers&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/hadden_jacob_atac">Jacob Hadden</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/wandless_caden_3vbw">Caden Wanless</a>&nbsp;combined for six innings of one-run, six-hit baseball with no walks and seven strikeouts.

UNDATED (AP) — EA Sports has revealed an image of the College Football 25 cover that features Michigan running back Donovan Edwards, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers and Colorado two-way player Travis Hunter. Tom McMillen has led LEAD1 since 2015 and will remain in his position through June 30 and transition to a part-time role through Sept. 30. LEAD1 represents the interests of the 133 schools that play the highest level of Division I football and attempts to develop consensus among their athletic directors as they address issues affecting college athletics. A national search will be conducted for his successor.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Xander Schauffele has set the PGA Championship record with a 62. He also ties a major championship record that he shared last year in the U.S. Open. Schauffele took advantage of rain-softened conditions at Valhalla. And he's been playing some good golf. Schauffele was runner-up last week in the Wells Fargo Championship. Schauffele played the back nine in 31. He ran off three birdies in a four-hole stretch on the front nine to get in range of the record. The previous mark at the PGA was a 63. One of those was Jose Maria Olazabal at Valhalla 10 years ago.

He was 1-under heading into his final two holes before a pair of three-putts led to bogeys that pushed him into plus territory. Woods arrived at Valhalla having not played since his last-place finish at the Masters last month. The 48-year-old Woods says it took him a few holes to get the competitive juices flowing. When he arrives at the course for the second round he will try to avoid missing the cut for the fourth time in his last seven visits to the PGA.

BOSTON (AP) — Rays reliever Jason Adam was forced out of Thursday night’s game at Fenway Park in the ninth inning when pitching coach Kyle Snyder headed to the mound with Tampa Bay out of visits. After a long delay, Erasmo Ramírez entered with two runners on and retired Romy González on a game-ending groundout to save a 7-5 victory over the Boston Red Sox. Rays manager Kevin Cash took full responsibility for the mistake and said he was glad it didn't cost his team the game.

NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL is distancing itself from Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, saying “his views are not those of the NFL as an organization.” Butker served as the commencement speaker at Benedictine College, a private Catholic liberal arts school, last week and said most of the women receiving degrees were probably more excited about getting married and having children. The NFL says “Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity. His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”

SPRING, Texas (AP) — Gymnastics star Simone Biles says she is better equipped to handle the challenges that await as she prepares for a third Olympics. The 27-year-old became a touchstone for the discussion around mental health at the Tokyo Games in 2021 when she pulled herself out of several competitions because of mental trauma that made it difficult for her to compete. Biles says she now works with a therapist regularly, even during meets, to help her deal with whatever may come. The seven-time Olympic medalist begins preparations for Paris at the U.S. Classic in Hartford, Connecticut.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Marcus Ericsson returned to the Indianapolis 500 with zero regrets but ended Thursday with a violent collision late in the first full day of practice. Ericsson hit a curb with just over two hours remaining in the session, causing his car to spin and hit the wall three different times. Before the crash, Ericsson had moved past the controversial ending to last year’s race that cost the Swede a second consecutive win in the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” He will try to win his second Indy 500 in three years on May 26 after last year's controversial runner-up finish.

After a solo home run tied the game at 6-6 and sent the game into extra innings, Lodice's single into center field with two outs off BYU reliever Stone Cushing scored&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/danniel-rivera/11532">Danniel Rivera</a>&nbsp;from third and handed the Wildcats (30-21, 14-14 Big 12) their third walk-off win of the season. &nbsp;

"Sometimes it doesn't always go as planned," said head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/pete-hughes/2461">Pete Hughes</a>&nbsp;following his team's 30th&nbsp;win. "I just love the way our guys never put their heads down. They're just trying to figure out their next move when the game plan doesn't go how they want it to."

K-State's 494 total strikeouts this season ranks fourth all-time in school history.

"We have people picking each other up, we get an error, [Neighbors] picks up&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/kaelen-culpepper/11460">Kaelen Culpepper</a>, and [Dean] picks up his teammates making some big pitches. That's what it's all about," mentioned Hughes.

"Lodice comes in after sitting on the bench most of the game and has his head in the right frame of mind. He puts himself in a situation to put a good swing on the ball and win a game for us."

Slack picked up his second victory in relief, as the lefty from Liberty, Texas, retired six of the seven batters he faced with two strikeouts and one walk over two scoreless innings (2-0).
