LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas football coach Lance Leipold signed an amended contract that increased his overall compensation to more than $40 million through the 2029 season. The contract does not extend the previous deal, but it does feature a substantial bump in salary from the $5 million Leipold made last season, when he led the Jayhawks to a 9-4 record and a victory in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. Leipold was linked to several openings this offseason, including Washington, but ultimately decided to stay at Kansas, where school officials have begun to invest heavily in the Jayhawks’ football program. That includes a new football stadium under construction.

Two people with direct knowledge of the discussions told The Associated Press the format being discussed would guarantee three playoff spots each for the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference, two for the Atlantic Coast Conference and Big 12 and one for the highest-ranked team from the Group of Five leagues. The two people spoke on condition of anonymity the CFP management committee's talks were not being made public.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Demarion Watson hit all seven of his field goal attempts for 15 points and also had nine rebounds to lead No. 8 Iowa State to a 58-45 win over Oklahoma. Curtis Jones added 11 points as the Cyclones won their 17th straight home game and for the sixth time in their last seven games. Rivaldo Soares had nine points to lead the Sooners, who have now lost three of their last four. It was the last scheduled meeting between the teams as Oklahoma heads to the SEC next year.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Caitlin Clark has another career record on her astounding resume: the most points by any major college women’s player to ever take the court. Iowa’s superstar guard scored 33 points to lead the sixth-ranked Hawkeyes in a romp at Minnesota and move one point past Lynette Woodard on the all-time list with 3,650 points. Clark buried her eighth 3-pointer of the game with 4:17 left to pass Woodard. She also set the NCAA single-season record for 3-pointers in the process to reach 156 in 2023-24.

TOKYO (AP) — Baseball star Shohei Ohtani has announced on social media he is married. He's written on Instagram in Japanese, “The season is approaching but I would like to announce to everyone that I have gotten married.” He says his new wife is a “Japanese woman” without identifying her. He says he will reveal more in an interview on Friday. He's asked media to refrain from “conducting unauthorized interviews.” The two-way star joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in December on a $700 million, 10-year contract. The 29-year-old Ohtani is Japan’s biggest celebrity, and there has always been curiosity around his personal life, which he has always kept very private. His focus, and his image, has always been 100%-baseball focused — free of scandals or tabloid news.

Not to be outdone, Thomas posted his second-straight double-double with an identical 15 points and 12 boards.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Coffeyville (17-11, 12-10) led 13-10 after one quarter of action in the Sports Arena Wednesday night.

No. 1 Hutchinson (28-0, 22-0) outscored the Red Ravens 12-4 in the second frame to take control and never look back.

Four Dragons, led by Akaysha Muggeridge (15), scored in double figures.

Kiki Smith hit just 3-of-10 three-pointers, but finished with 14 points.

Monae Duffy added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Journey Armstead scored 10 with four rebounds and four assists.

Coffeyville's Kyleigh Ortiz hit 4-of-8 triples and led the Red Ravens with 14 points.

Coffeyville cut the Dragon lead to six twice in the final six minutes.

With 3:02 to play, an Ortiz three made it 57-51 before Duffy answered with a three of her own and Hutchinson hit all six of its final free-throw attempts.

HUTCHINSON, Kan.&nbsp;— The Salthawks beat the Wichita-Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders 41-37 in the first round of the class 5A sub-state basketball tournament Wednesday night. Junior Kaia Smith scored 21 points and junior Grace Posch scored 15.&nbsp;

Head Coach Kalen Hilst said senior guard Azariah Dawes ability to limit Kapaun guard Lizzie Romer was a key to advance to the next round of sub-state. Romer is committed to Texas-Rio Grande Valley.&nbsp;

"I just want to give all the credit in the world to Azariah Dawes (AZ) for locking down a division one basketball player," Hilst said. "She did a fantastic job defensively. Lizzie Romer is a heck of a player and AZ stepped up to the plate. We knew as a senior she was going to be ready for that challenge."

Kapaun had a 17-7 lead at one point in the second quarter, but Hutchinson came from behind and went on a 12-2 run right before halftime. The game was tied 19-all at halftime and tied again at 28 headed into the fourth quarter.&nbsp;

&nbsp;"It was all about, 'hey, we've been here before,'" Hilst said. "We've been in games with Derby, and we've lost. We've been in some tight games with Maize South and we've lost them, so you know we've kind of learned from our mistakes, and we are lucky enough to pull this one out."&nbsp;

Andover is 21-0 and the No. 1 seed in Class 5A. The Trojans beat Goddard Eisenhower 52-32 on Wednesday night.&nbsp;

"Andover is one of the most high-powered teams I've seen on film this year," Hilst said. "Offensively and defensively they are going to throw some pressure at us and try to wear us down because we don't have a ton of depth, but they are going to try and speed us up. They put a little 1-2-2 on. They put a little 2-2-1 on. We've got to get in transition and try and shut down all that stuff because they are getting out and they're going."

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas football coach Lance Leipold signed an amended contract Wednesday that increased his overall compensation to more than $40 million through the 2029 season while giving him a sizeable pool of money for hiring assistants and support staff.

The contract does not extend his previous deal, but it does feature a substantial bump in salary from the $5 million Leipold made last season, when he led the long-suffering Jayhawks to a 9-4 record and a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-unlv-football-score-guaranteed-rate-bowl-e2c299b7daa553f08c8676b02035ba45">victory in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl</a>.

Leipold is 17-21 over three seasons at Kansas. His back-to-back bowl berths have been its first since the 2007 and '08 seasons.

“Since Lance and his staff arrived in Lawrence, our program has seen exponential growth in every facet both on and off the field," Kansas athletic director Travis Goff said in a statement. "Every aspect of our program is on an unprecedented positive trajectory, and we are eager to continue this prodigious build with Lance.”

Goff and Leipold planned to discuss the amended contract at a news conference Thursday.

The contract includes a pool of $6 million for assistant coaches that increases by $200,000 per year, and a $2.9 million pool for other football staff that increases by $100,000 annually. That additional money could help Leipold in the future retain coaches such as offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, who left for the same job at Penn State.

“We are incredibly proud of what our football program has accomplished over the first three seasons in Lawrence," Leipold said, “and look forward to the continued challenge of bringing a consistent winner and championship home.”

Leipold inherited a program whose last winning season came in 2008, before Mark Mangino was fired and the school churned through four coaches. The Jayhawks were winless under Les Miles the season before Leipold's arrival, and his relatively late hiring — he took over after spring football — forced him to piece together a competitive team in a matter of months.

The Kansas City Chiefs unveiled initial concepts for a complete reimagination and renovation of Arrowhead Stadium Wednesday that team officials say will move the iconic stadium into the future.

“For more than five decades, Arrowhead Stadium has been the home of the Chiefs, and a home for so many of our fans,” Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said.

“This is where generations of Chiefs fans fell in love with the game. History has been written here, legends have been born here, and lifelong memories have been made within these walls. The stadium has become part of the fabric of our community. Today we are excited to share our plans to extend the life of Arrowhead for future generations of Chiefs fans.”

The team consulted with a team of experts from Populous –a renowned sports design and architecture firm headquartered in Kansas City – on best-in-class features and concepts.

Chiefs officials presented renderings and video Wednesday of proposed repairs, maintenance, renovations and enhancements that would maintain Arrowhead for years to&nbsp;come.

The price tag for the whole project is $800 million. Of that, $300 million would be paid by the Chiefs, who also would pay for cost overruns.

The remainder will be largely up to Jackson County taxpayers, who will decide whether to fund the project with an April 2 ballot measure to secure a 40-year, 3/8th-cent sales tax that would send equal dollars to the Chiefs and Royals.

The Royals would use that funding <a href="https://stjosephpost.com/posts/eeaa57ca-5823-46fa-8443-1d29d0999959">to build a new baseball park</a> in the Crossroads District.

“There are many steps to go - the first and most important is April 2,” Donovan said.

“Today is a major milestone in a very long and complex process that has taken place behind the scenes for more than two years,” Donovan continued."

“It's important to recognize the work of our internal team, as well as the team from Populous, who have worked closely on this project from the time that we started reviewing core samples of concrete through today’s announcement. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs are releasing wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday, giving the Super Bowl champions some much-needed salary cap flexibility.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the Chiefs had not announced the move, which would save $12 million that they could use to shore up their offense or help keep defensive stars Chris Jones and L'Jarius Sneed next season.

The Chiefs gave Valdes-Scantling a three-year, $30 million deal two years ago in the hopes that Patrick Mahomes could turn the former Packers wide receiver into a viable deep threat. But while Valdes-Scantling had memorable moments in Kansas City, including a TD catch in the Super Bowl, he was plagued by dropped passes and never put up the numbers the Chiefs expected of him.

He had 42 catches for 687 yards and two scores in 2022 and only 21 catches for 315 yards and a touchdown this past season.

The release of Valdes-Scantling was widely expected given his overall lack of production and the other needs faced by the Chiefs as they retool their roster and begin pursuit of an NFL-record third consecutive Lombardi Trophy.

The Chiefs' defense, which largely shut down the 49ers in the Super Bowl, has several important pieces hitting free agency, headlined by Jones and Sneed. General manager Brett Veach said at the NFL scouting combine the team could use the franchise tag on one — Sneed is the more likely candidate — but that the Chiefs would try to secure long-term deals with both of them.

The deadline to use the franchise tag is Tuesday. If the Chiefs use it on Jones or Sneed but cannot work out a long-term deal with them, there is also the possibility that Kansas City would trade them for draft compensation.

“You’d like to be able to tag all the guys and pay all the guys, and it’s tough, because the more you win the more you have to pay players,” Veach said Tuesday. "And obviously, when you have this amount of success, you’re paying players a lot of money.”

Among the Chiefs' other free agents on the defense, safety Mike Edwards became an important player alongside Justin Reid after a season-ending injury to Bryan Cook; Drue Tranquill became a regular at linebacker after signing a one-year deal to come over from the AFC West-rival Chargers this past season; Willie Gay Jr. has proven to be their most athletic and versatile linebacker; and defensive linemen Tershawn Wharton, Derrick Nnadi and Mike Danna played important roles.

The Chiefs also have positions to address on offense.

Left tackle Donovan Edwards will be a free agent along with Nick Allegretti, who started in the Super Bowl in place of injured left guard Joe Thuney. Backup running backs Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon, wide receivers Mecole Hardman and Richie James, tight end Blake Bell and backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert also are free agents.

Longtime long snapper James Winchester and punter Tommy Townsend also will be free agents, though the Chiefs already appear to have moved on from Townsend after signing Matt Araiza to a contract late last week.

Araiza was dropped from a lawsuit in December that had been filed by a woman who alleged she was raped by San Diego State football players in 2021. Veach said the Chiefs went through “a long process” before they were comfortable signing him.

 <li>The Coyotes earned the second seed by closing out the regular season with four victories in eight days. After losing to Saint Mary, they responded with an epic 96-93 overtime victory over No. 9 Southwestern in Mabee Arena. It was their second victory over the Moundbuilders this season and gave them the tiebreaker that came into play after the two finished the regular season tied for second. Then came victories over Ottawa in Mabee Arena, at Tabor and York on Saturday in Mabee Arena.</li><li>The KWU-Ottawa winner plays the Southwestern/McPherson winner in the semifinals Saturday at the site of the higher seeded team. Southwestern is the third seed and McPherson the sixth. KWU trailed 55-50 early in the second half before regaining the lead for good with 14:55 left.</li><li>Murdock and Littlejohn scored 15 apiece in the first game against Ottawa. Littlejohn also had 13 rebounds and&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/09690491-ee63-4b78-bca0-6cde0226def8?elinkdata=6164" target="_blank">Thurbil Bile</a>&nbsp;added 11 points and 14 rebounds. KWU led 44-31 at halftime of the second game and fended off the Braves' attempts to rally in the second half. Littlejohn had 19 points and 15 rebounds, Bile and&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/57d5b693-77d6-4c90-9a3f-fe8d2320dff8?elinkdata=6164" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>&nbsp;scored 15 apiece and Murdock had 13.</li><li>Murdock averages 18 points, five assists and four rebounds while Littlejohn averages 17 points and 11 rebounds.&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/520cc629-f8a5-4316-b336-c8d3b1e343be?elinkdata=6164" target="_blank">Izaiah Hale</a>&nbsp;averages 10.7 points and Bile 9.7.  <li>The seventh-seeded Braves lost to Saint Mary 93-91 in overtime Saturday in Ottawa. It was their third loss in four games; they defeated Evangel 70-69 last Wednesday in Ottawa. OU had won five of six before the recent slump.</li><li>The Braves average 81.6 points but allow 80. They shoot 36 percent from long distance and average just under nine made 3-pointers per game on 36 percent shooting. Opponents are shooting 43 percent.</li><li>Jayden Hibbitt and Deondre Buggage average a combined 39.6 points per game - Hibbitt 20.6 and Buggage 19.0. Buggage, a 5-foot-9 junior point guard, has surpassed the 20-point plateau 13 times this season and Hibbitt 18 times. Hibbitt, a 6-6 junior and transfer from Washburn, has scored 30-plus points five times including 38 against Saint Mary on Saturday. Kameron Woods averages 11.3 points and Angok Anyang, a 6-9 center, 9.8 rebounds and 9.5 points.</li><li>Buggage scored 20 against KWU in the first game this season and 29 in the second while Hibbitt had 11 and 21 points respectively.</li>

The Hutchinson Community College softball team swept Jayhawk Conference Division I Player and Pitcher of the Week honors on Tuesday.

Sophomore outfielder&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/darnell_jaeleigh_5kwl">Jaeleigh Darnell</a>&nbsp;was named KJCCC Player of the Week for Week 4. Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lake_dakota_j57w">Dakota Lake</a>&nbsp;was named the KJCCC Pitcher of the Week.

Darnell hit .545 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in a 3-1 week for the Blue Dragons. Darnell slugged 1.545 and had an on-base percentage of .643 to pace the Blue Dragon offense.

She went 6 for 11 with two doubles and three home runs. Against Colby, Darnell was 4 for 6 with a double, two homers and six RBIs.

Lake struck out 13 batters in six innings of work, picking up a victory in a 3-1 week for the Blue Dragons. Lake pitched the final 2 1-3 innings of Hutchinson's 16-6 run-rule victory over Colby last Thursday. She struck out four Colby batters in that performance.

For the week, Lake appeared in all four Blue Dragon games. She allowed just three hits, two walks and an unearned run while fanning 13 in 6.0 innings.

The Hutchinson Community College softball team set a new single-game team scoring record and tied a record for hits in a game as the Blue Dragons rolled to a Jayhawk Conference sweep of Pratt on Tuesday at Fun Valley.

The Blue Dragons defeated Pratt 12-0 in Game 1 as&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/tomlinson_morgan_sq65">Morgan Tomlinson</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/lake_dakota_j57w">Dakota Lake</a>&nbsp;combined for a one-hit shutout. Then in Game 2,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/sandoval_olivia_ydnf">Olivia Sandoval</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/backhaus_brooke_06ze">Brooke Backhaus</a>&nbsp;both went 5 for 5 and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/kealey_annie_xr9m">Annie Kealey</a>&nbsp;had a career-high seven RBIs in a 31-1 victory.

The Blue Dragons improved to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in the Jayhawk Conference. The Dragons extended their winning streak over Pratt (4-8, 0-2) to 30 games, which dates back to 2013. The Blue Dragons play North Iowa Area, Indian Hills twice and Iowa Western this weekend in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The 31 runs scored in Game 2 surpassed the old single-game record of 30 runs set last season against Northwest Tech. Hutchison's 30 total hits tied last season's game against Northwest Tech and a 2014 game against Brown Mackie.

The Blue Dragons' 28 team runs batted in are No. 2 in single-game history. Hutchinson's seven doubles tied for fourth most in single-game history.

Sandoval also reached a career milestone by becoming the 17th Blue Dragon in modern day statistical history to reach 100 career hits. Sandoval now has 104 career hits.

GAME 2 RECAP – Hutchinson 31, Pratt 1The Blue Dragons put together two of the biggest single innings in program history in Game 2.

The Dragons tied a season high with 11 runs in the second inning. They sent 15 batters to the plate and racked up nine hits, including five doubles. The Blue Dragons topped that one inning later with 13 runs on 12 hits, including a Kealey grand slam.

The 13-run third was the third highest scoring inning in program history. The 11-runs in the second tied for the sixth most runs in an inning in program history.

Sandoval and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2023-24/bios/backhaus_brooke_06ze">Brooke Backhaus</a>&nbsp;both went 5 for 5 in the game, which tied for the third-most hits in program history.

Sandoval tied a Blue Dragon single-game record scoring five runs. She had four singles and a double and she drove in a career-high four runs.

Backhaus completed a perfect 7 for 7 doubleheader with three singles and a pair of doubles. She scored a career high four runs an drove in three RBIs.

Seven different Blue Dragon players had multi-hit games

Kealey went 4 for 5 with a double and grand slam as part of her seven RBI game. Kealey had an RBI double and a two-run single in the second inning. Her grand slam came in the third inning.

Tomlinson struck out six in 3 1-3 innings with a walk. The only hit Tomlinson gave up came in the second inning, which she pitched out of a runners at first and third situation with a pair of strikeouts.

Lake struck out four in 1 2-3 innings to complete the shutout.

🎧🎥🏀 GBB: Hutch High travels to Wichita-Kapaun Mt. Carmel for first round sub-state

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Dallin Hall and Jaxson Robinson scored 18 points apiece as BYU rallied from a 12-point deficit to beat seventh-ranked Kansas 76-68, ending the Jayhawks’ 19-game home winning streak in their first matchup as Big 12 foes. Hunter Dickinson had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Jayhawks, who were just 3 of 15 from 3-point range and 19 for 31 at the foul line. Dajuan Harris Jr. added 12 points, KJ Adams Jr. scored 11 and Johnny Furphy finished with 10 for Kansas. BYU won despite heavy foul trouble in part by going 13 of 34 from behind the 3-point arc. It was the Cougars' first game at Allen Fieldhouse since 1971.

HOUSTON (AP) — L.J. Cryer scored 22 points, J’Wan Roberts added 15 and top-ranked Houston won its sixth straight game by beating Cincinnati 67-59. One day after ascending to No. 1 in the AP Top 25 for the first time this season, the Cougars extended their conference lead to 1 1/2 games over Iowa State. They've won 21 consecutive home games, the longest active streak in the nation. Cryer had 15 points in the first half and Houston led 26-17 at the break. Emanuel Sharp scored 11 points and Jamal Shead finished with nine points and 11 assists for the Cougars. Viktor Lakhin and Simas Lukosius each scored 11 for Cincinnati, which has lost five of six. The Bearcats went 5 of 19 on 3s.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Dylan Disu scored 21 points, Max Abmas added 18 and Texas rode a big first half to a 81-69 victory over Texas Tech on Tuesday night in a game that included a significant delay after fans threw objects onto the floor. Midway through the second half Texas’ Brock Cunningham delivered a hard check to Darrion Williams, knocking the Red Raiders player out of bounds, resulting in Cunningham's ejection. While officials were reviewing the play, objects including water bottles were thrown onto the floor and again after Texas Tech was given a technical for the fans' behavior. Pop Isaacs led Tech with 17 points.

UNDATED (AP) — Four former or suspended Iowa State athletes are asking a judge to throw out evidence in a state sports wagering investigation they say was gathered illegally and to dismiss all charges against them. Attorneys for former football players Isaiah Lee, Jirehl Brock and Enyi Uwazurike and suspended wrestler Paniro Johnson on Tuesday filed the motion to suppress in Story County. The four are among about two dozen Iowa State and Iowa athletes criminally charged. They each face a felony charge of identity theft and an aggravated misdemeanor charge of tampering with records. The Iowa Department of Public Safety has said it believes its methods stand up to legal scrutiny.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid walked to the podium Tuesday in Indianapolis with a message that went beyond the football world. He paid tribute to the woman who was killed two weeks ago at the city’s Super Bowl celebration — and with togetherness and love tragedies could be avoided in the future. It’s the first time since the Feb. 14 shooting that killed Lisa Lopez-Galvan and left 22 injured, that anyone from the organization spoke publicly about the incident.

But Payton did hint at an upcoming split when he suggested it's imperative for the team to hit on ‘the next one’ at quarterback. A solid starter has been elusive for the Broncos ever since Peyton Manning's retirement in 2016. They've churned through 13 starting quarterbacks since then. The Japanese star hit a two-run homer in his first game wearing Dodger blue, working a full count in the fifth inning before blasting an opposite field homer off righty Dominic Leone that just cleared the left-field wall. Ohtani was hitless in his first two plate appearances, striking out on four pitches in the first inning before hitting a hard grounder into a double play in the third.

CARSON, Calif. (AP) — The U.S. national team has fought for years to raise the level of women’s soccer across the globe, but that doesn’t make its inevitable losses to teams it once dominated any easier. The U.S. fell 2-0 to Mexico at the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup. The loss was only the second time Mexico has beaten the U.S. The only other Mexico victory in the 43-game series was in 2010, a 2-1 win at a World Cup qualifying match. Coming as it did after some difficult times for the U.S. team, the most recent loss was inevitably going to raise questions.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After allowing Goddard Eisenhower to jump out to an eight-point lead in the first quarter, the Hutchinson Salthawks roared back with a 20-6 run in the second quarter to lead at the half, 34-28, in the first round sub-state game played at the Salthawk Activity Center Tuesday night.

But Eisenhower was not going to roll over and go away easily. Pierce Blue and Chase George fired long-range bombs to cut the Hutch lead to 49-45 going into the final quarter.

Eisenhower pulled within one late in the contest. Every time the Tigers got close, Hutch would find a way to pull away again. The Salthawks finally pulled away for good with a Jax Heneha triple from the far right corner to win 69-63.

Hutch High travels to Great Bend on Friday night for a rematch with the Panthers. Great Bend is the No. 4 seed and edged a pesky Wichita Bishop Carroll team 54-51 in Great Bend.

Hutch was led by Terrell King with 17 points. Julian Smith had 16 and finished with a double-double. Heneha added 13-plus pinpoint assists. Devon Spiller had 12, including back-to-back three-pointers in the first quarter. Daylee VanSycle had six, Jay Lewis three and Taishaun Govain two.

Blue led all Goddard Eisenhower scorers with 19. George had 18 and Larsen Schneider had 10 before fouling out late in the game. Daren Morgan had eight, Kade Perry five and Lucas Rickman hit a 40-foot three-pointer at the buzzer for his only basket.

Hutchinson (15-6) travels to Great Bend Friday night at 7 p.m. to see who will advance to the 5A state tournament in Emporia next week.

Foul trouble set in for BYU in the second half. Hall picked up his fourth with 17:39 to go, and Trevin Knell got his fourth — after a double-technical with Dickinson — just minutes later. But the Jayhawks were unable to take advantage, not only struggling at the foul line but going more than eight minutes without a field goal.

BYU had another technical foul called on its bench with 7:50 left — and Harris made both of those free throws.

That's when the Cougars suddenly began to rain 3-pointers, wiping away a 56-50 deficit and taking their first lead at 59-58 on two free throws by Hall with 4:50 to play. Hall added two 3s of his own over the next few minutes, including one from the top of the key, which gave the Big 12 newcomers a 71-66 lead with 1:31 remaining.

The Cougars were able to hold on the rest of the way for another signature win in their first season in the Big 12.

BYU returns home to play TCU on Saturday night.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins acquired outfielder Manuel Margot, minor league shortstop Rayne Doncon and cash from the Los Angeles Dodgers for minor league shortstop Noah Miller. In conjunction with the trade, the Dodgers announced a $4 million, one-year contract to keep Kiké Hernández. The 29-year-old Margot just joined the Dodgers two months ago with starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow in a trade with Tampa Bay. Margot hit .264 with a .686 OPS in 99 games for the Rays last season while playing center field and right field. He has also played left field.
