Lawrence Edward Ward, 75, of Hutchinson, KS, passed away peacefully at his home June 11, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born September 15, 1948, to Earl and Georgia (Penry) Ward in Holton, Kansas.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his adopted in love son, James and wife Christina Smith of Hutchinson, daughter Jeanette and husband Bryant Williams of Hutchinson, brother, Gary Ward of Arizona, sister Earlene Shaw, adopted in love sister Nell Waterman of West Virginia, grandchildren, Brock, Aaron, Lance, Andrew (Marcella) Smith, Bryce (Jennifer) Smith, Jessica (Malcolm) Deason, and 10 great grandchildren.

Lawrence was very dedicated and compassionate. He was a United States Navy Vet and worked for the Highway Patrol for many years. Lawrence was a school bus driver for Durham School Service, was a BTW Trainer for Durham, and truly loved his job. He loved the special needs children he transported and will be greatly missed by his work family at Durham School Service. Lawrence also enjoyed fishing and spending time with those close to him.

Lawrence will be laid to rest at a veteran’s cemetery, day and time to be announced at a later date.

Richard D. Engle, 65, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS. &nbsp;Richard was born on August 29, 1958, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Mike and Patricia (Slack) Engle. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Richard worked for over 20 years at Tyson Manufacturing in Hutchinson. &nbsp;He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed listening to music, and outdoor grilling. &nbsp;Richard was a collector of all things, especially antiques. &nbsp;He was a big fan of the Washington Redskins and WSU Shockers.&nbsp;

In 1976, Richard married Jerri Ann Allen. &nbsp;They later divorced.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Amanda Engle; brother, Michael Engle; and one nephew.

Richard is survived by his companion of 17 years, Marlene Vigil; daughter, Sarah (Bryan) Thompson; sister, Sharon (Stella) Engle; brother, Kenneth (Jennifer) Engle; grandchildren, Kira, Lea, Corbin, Ellianna, Grayson, and Kevin Thompson; one niece; four nephews; and his beloved dog Daisy.&nbsp;

Edith “Edie” Ellen Kuhns, 73, died June 11, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born December 16, 1950, in Hutchinson, to Charles William and Evelyn Rosie (Wolf) Dyche.

Edie attended Hutchinson High School and worked as a Certified Nurse Aide for 30 years. She worked for Good Samaritan for ten years.

Edie enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, reading, and doing puzzle books. She was also a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Hutchinson.

Edie is survived by: her mother, Rosie Dyche of Hutchinson; sisters, Carolyn Wheeler, Patty (Lance) Morrell both of Hutchinson; daughter, Angela (Byron) Akins of Hutchinson; son, Billy Kuhns of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Chelsei (Marcus) Freel of Ness City, Catelyn Winton of Rose Hill, Casey (Alisha) Clutts of Wichita; and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her father; sister, Sandy Piros; and nephew, Mike Piros.

Memorial Service will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2024, at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Brian Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Edward Bernard Jones, 97, of McPherson passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

Ed was born on March 31, 1927 in Cambridge, Nebraska, the son of Edward Lawrence and Augusta Theresa Jones.&nbsp; He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1944 and attended the University of Denver for one year before enlisting in the United States Navy.&nbsp; While in the Navy, he was a member of the SeaBees engineering corps.&nbsp; After his discharge, he began work with Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Company where he was trained as a pipeline welder.&nbsp; He continued to work for the gas company for forty-two years where he gained a reputation as an expert welder and metal fabricator.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Patsy Jean Underwood in Phillipsburg, Kansas and together they raised three children.&nbsp;

Ed was well known among his friends and family as an avid aviator, aviation mechanic and aircraft homebuilder.&nbsp; He used his many skills as a woodworker and metal fabricator to build his own projects as well as help others complete theirs.&nbsp; He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Antique Aircraft Association, Communications Workers of America, American Legion and the VFW.&nbsp; He was a devoted Catholic and was an active member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church of McPherson and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother and four brothers Paul O’Brien, Charles Jones, Robert Jones and James Jones.

He is survived by three children, Frances Grant (Kevin) of Salina KS, Toni Bandy (Terry) of McPherson KS, Edward Jones (Carol) of Arlington TX, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Ed will be remembered as a kind and generous man who loved his family and friends and was always ready to share a story.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18 at 6:00 pm at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in McPherson followed by Rosary at 7:15.&nbsp; A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 19, also at Saint Joseph’s, followed by a burial at West Cedar Cemetery in Agra, KS at 3:30 pm.&nbsp;

Arnold J. Sommerfeld, 87, of Hillsboro and formerly of Durham, died Monday June 10, 2024 at Hillsboro Community Hospital, Hillsboro. He was a retired farmer and construction worker and had been a resident of Hillsboro since July of 2020, moving from Durham where he lived since May of 1986.

He was born November 7, 1936 in Canton, the son of Charles John and Elsie (Auernheimer) Sommerfeld. On July 31, 1964 he was united in marriage to Judy Keller at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Canton. They were blessed with two daughters, Angela and Anita.

Arnold was a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church, Tampa and was a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife Judy of Hillsboro; his two daughters, Angela (Kevin) Staley, Newton and Anita Rogers, Walton; two brothers, Ernest Sommerfeld, Olathe and Verlin (Ann) Sommerfeld, Durham; a sister, Ethel Kaiser, Lenexa; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2024 at Saint John's Lutheran Church, Tampa with Rev. Clark Davis presiding. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military rites. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening, June 13, 2024 at Olson's Mortuary, Canton.

Mary Ethel Sommerfeld, 84, of Olathe, KS, passed away on June 6, 2024.

She was born November 1, 1939, in Mansfield, MO, the youngest child of F.N. (Bud) and Olive Alwilda (Millikin) Blake. The family made their home in Smolan, KS. She graduated from Lindsborg Rural High School in May 1957. In August 1957, Mary wed Norman Willoughby. They had three children: Darrel, Penny, and Maryann. They divorced in 1971. In April 1975, Mary wed Ernest Sommerfeld. They had two children: John and Katrina. The Sommerfelds made their home in Marquette, KS.

Mary was a devoted wife and loving mama to her kids and all their friends. Over the years, she held various jobs outside the home. She retired from Farmers Alliance, McPherson, in 2005.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Earl Blake; sister, Nancylee Blake; and daughter Maryann Willoughby.

She is survived by her husband, Ernie (Olathe); brother, Everett Blake (Hutchinson, KS); sons, Darrel Willoughby and John Sommerfeld (Biloxi, MS); daughters, Penny Willoughby (Seattle, WA); and Kat Jameson (Independence, MO). She was blessed with nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Mary Ethel Sommerfeld |1939-2024|

Marilyn Ione (Gillette) Odermann, affectionately known as Mo, was born to Clayton and Helen Gillette on September 22, 1940 in Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The family moved to Wessington Springs, SD in 1943 where she attended elementary school. She went on to attend Wessington Springs College (WSC c’60) which included high school. Some of her favorite childhood memories included taking a bath, getting in pajamas, and going to the drive-in for ice cream; fishing with bamboo poles; enjoying family picnics with potato salad and fried chicken; and adventuring on vacations every summer.

Marilyn started dating Ellis Odermann (Oats) when she was a freshman and he was a junior in high school. Their first date was going rollerskating in Mitchell, SD. Their families were good friends, and they knew each other most of their lives. They were a junior bride and groom in a wedding when Ellis was 5 years old and Marilyn was 3 years old.

Ellis asked her to marry him over Christmas break (1960) when he was home from Greenville College, and they were married September 9, 1961 in the chapel at WSC. They both worked for WSC and Wessington Springs Academy (WSA) where the years were lean, but happy.&nbsp;

Their son, Jeffrey, was born October 9, 1965, and three years later after WSA closed, the family moved to McPherson, Kansas to become a part of the Central College family. Their daughter, Rochelle, was born July 23, 1969, and the family lived above the Winslow family in the old Elms House, where the McPherson Free Methodist Church currently sits. In 1970, Ellis built his family a home on Central Avenue where they lived until 1980 when he built their family another home on Pine Court. Marilyn lived there until May 2022, and the family currently operates the property as an Airbnb called “Oats &amp; Mo’s Place” so they can continue to enjoy the home.

Alongside her husband, Marilyn was a faithful employee of Central Christian College of Kansas working there for nearly 40 years, only taking a few years off to be home with her children before they were in school full-time. The couple was inducted into the Academy of Achievers and they retired together in 2000. Marilyn enjoyed her official role serving in the business office with Ellis, but she offered so much more to the college community as a dorm parent, class sponsor, and honorary mom to many students who passed through the halls and who she invited into her home.

Marilyn was also an active member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church where she taught the kindergarten Sunday school class for numerous years, sang in the choir, played organ, and supported many people in the church as well as missionaries with her fervent prayers and financial generosity. She also served the McPherson community in many ways including volunteering to help adults improve their English skills; being involved on a team to rehabilitate a paralyzed man; getting groceries for and visiting the elderly; and helping in her daughter-in-law Sue’s pre-K classroom.

 </figure>Marilyn Ione (Gillette) Odermann, affectionately known as Mo, was born to Clayton and Helen Gillette on September 22, 1940 in Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The family moved to Wessington Springs, SD in 1943 where she attended elementary school. She went on to attend Wessington Springs College (WSC c’60) which included high school. Some of her favorite childhood memories included taking a bath, getting in pajamas, and going to the drive-in for ice cream; fishing with bamboo poles; enjoying family picnics with potato salad and fried chicken; and adventuring on vacations every summer.Marilyn started dating Ellis Odermann (Oats) when she was a freshman and he was a junior in high school. Their first date was going rollerskating in Mitchell, SD. Their families were good friends, and they knew each other most of their lives. They were a junior bride and groom in a wedding when Ellis was 5 years old and Marilyn was 3 years old.Ellis asked her to marry him over Christmas break (1960) when he was home from Greenville College, and they were married September 9, 1961 in the chapel at WSC. They both worked for WSC and Wessington Springs Academy (WSA) where the years were lean, but happy.&nbsp;Their son, Jeffrey, was born October 9, 1965, and three years later after WSA closed, the family moved to McPherson, Kansas to become a part of the Central College family. Their daughter, Rochelle, was born July 23, 1969, and the family lived above the Winslow family in the old Elms House, where the McPherson Free Methodist Church currently sits. In 1970, Ellis built his family a home on Central Avenue where they lived until 1980 when he built their family another home on Pine Court. Marilyn lived there until May 2022, and the family currently operates the property as an Airbnb called “Oats &amp; Mo’s Place” so they can continue to enjoy the home.Alongside her husband, Marilyn was a faithful employee of Central Christian College of Kansas working there for nearly 40 years, only taking a few years off to be home with her children before they were in school full-time. The couple was inducted into the Academy of Achievers and they retired together in 2000. Marilyn enjoyed her official role serving in the business office with Ellis, but she offered so much more to the college community as a dorm parent, class sponsor, and honorary mom to many students who passed through the halls and who she invited into her home.Marilyn was also an active member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church where she taught the kindergarten Sunday school class for numerous years, sang in the choir, played organ, and supported many people in the church as well as missionaries with her fervent prayers and financial generosity. Karolyn K. Ely, 81, of Haven, died June 10, 2024, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born June 1, 1943, in Dodge City, to Zerah and Hazel (Krengel) Linder.

Karolyn graduated from Fairfield High School in 1961, and attended Hutchinson Community Junior College, and graduated Cum Laude from Kansas State University with a Master’s degree in Food and Nutritional Science. She worked for Gerber Products Company in Michigan, before returning to Kansas and working as a Food Chemist at Pioneer in the cereal division, for over 20 years. Karolyn enjoyed teaching Tai Chi and volunteering at Haven United Methodist Church.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and had a positive impact on everyone she met.&nbsp;

Karolyn was a member of Haven United Methodist Church and Master Gardeners of Reno County.

On August 14, 1964, she married Earl R. Ely, at the Plevna Community Church. They shared over 59 years of marriage.

Karolyn is survived by: husband, Earl R. Ely of Haven; daughters, Amber (Michael) Casement of Wichita, Robin (Peter Verniere) of Chicago, IL, Brooke (TJ Zenker) Ely-Zenker of Conroe, TX; grandchildren, Mitchael Casement and Brittani Casement of Wichita; cousins, Darlene (Bill) Blackmore, Yvonne (John) Montford, all of Turon, and Krista Lee (Roy) Heimberger of Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Eunice Elaine Arndt, 87, died June 10, 2024, at her home. &nbsp;She was born October 24, 1936, in Onawa, IA, to Edward Arndt and Francis (Blakley) Arndt.&nbsp;

Eunice was a 1954 graduate of Owana High School, Owana, IA. &nbsp;She attended the University of South Dakota where she met her future husband, Lloyd Will Ballhagen. &nbsp;Together they raised two sons, Clint and Kurt. Eunice went back to school and earned a Masters Degree in Gerontology from Wichita State University. &nbsp;She taught piano lessons for 62 years and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS.

Eunice is survived by: &nbsp;her sons, Clint William Ballhagen of Hutchinson, KS, and Kurt Laine Ballhagen of Lawrence, KS; grandson, Brandon Lee Ballhagen; and granddog, Zeus.

Eunice Elaine Arndt |1936-2024|

Marilyn Louise Carlson, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on June 6, 2024, at Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland, Kansas at the age of 96.&nbsp;Marilyn was born on March 21, 1928, in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Grace (Logbeck) Burk. Her childhood years were spent on the farm homesteaded by her grandfather Swan Burk in 1871, an immigrant and orphan from Gothenburg, Sweden.&nbsp; Only twenty-six years old, Swan traveled by a horse drawn wagon to Manhattan, Kansas after working in Ottumwa, Iowa for six years, which at that time was the end of the completed line on the CB&amp;Q Railroad. Both he and his brother Gus heard of a Swedish community in Lindsborg, KS and the availability of government land in McPherson County. They made their way to Lindsborg and then rode their horses south on the “Big Prairie” to the land that Marilyn owns today.

Marilyn was a kind and soft-spoken person, but at the age of fourteen years old, she learned to be extra tough after her mother passed.&nbsp; Her father Henry was away from home much of the time buying and selling cattle for the farm feedlot.&nbsp; She brought food to grandfather Swan, listened to his stories, and learned to cook from Aunt Clara Burk when the harvest crew came to harvest the wheat.&nbsp; Being the only female on the farm, this childhood experience made her into an excellent cook and horse rider. She rode her horse on several occasions to visit the Hedlund and Chinberg families and Grandma Logbeck, but coming back home on one ride, the horse went into a gallop and became a runaway horse.&nbsp; As she approached the red barn, she yelled to Hjalmer, the ranch hand, “close the barn door”, all she wanted was to keep her head on her shoulders. Hjalmer Lindblade was special to Marilyn, a large man who took care of mom when Henry was away on business. She always spoke fondly of her cousins the Chinbergs, four brothers that lived on a farm a few miles down the road and how they played together and made mud pies. Mrs. Sellberg, her childhood school teacher for eight years, was another important person during her early life.

Playing the piano was a passion of Marilyn that lasted for most of her life. Henry bought her a Steinway baby grand piano and she took lessons in Lindsborg from Dr. Oscar Thorsen, professor of piano at the Bethany College Conservatory of Music. Marilyn was an attractive young woman and as the story goes, Dr. Thorsen would play for mom during her piano lesson, instead of the other way around.&nbsp; For college, she went to Monticello College, an all-women’s college in Godfrey, Illinois to study piano along with her childhood friend Carolyn Adams. During college, she met her future husband Vance Carlson at the wedding of their mutual friends, Joyce and Darrell Wilson, which led to her 40-year marriage with Vance. They married in 1949 after she graduated with a degree in Piano.

Their early years of marriage were spent moving across the U.S. following Vance’s professional baseball career. Marilyn loved to travel with Vance during baseball and his Big 8 football officiating career. Bowling was another passion when Vance opened Starlite Lanes in 1961. The Steinway piano made its way to Simpson Street in McPherson, where Vance and her three children would gather around the piano to sing.

Marilyn’s Swedish heritage was important to her. She loved attending Handel’s Messiah at Presser Hall in Lindsborg and stopping by the local grocery store to pick-up rusks to dip in coffee, Swedish rye bread and Bond Ost cheese was always on the menu during those trips. Her physical condition caused her to move to Goodland, KS in 2008 where her daughter Susan resides.&nbsp; Joint surgeries took their toll, leading to a wheelchair for her remaining life.&nbsp; No matter pain, no matter losing her eyesight, Marilyn never complained. She was an inspiration, kind-hearted, loved music, loved her children and loved her homeland.&nbsp; We shall miss her a great deal.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Grace Burk, brother Swen Burk and former husband Vance Carlson. She is survived by her children, daughter Susan (Steve) McCall of Goodland, KS, son Marty (Deborah) of Snoqualmie, WA, and son Neal (Yunhee) Carlson of Kenmore, WA.&nbsp; Her 6 grandchildren, Megan and Jena McCall, Zachary and Gunnar Carlson, and Cody and Jacob Carlson; and her 2 great-granddaughters, Skylar and Mazi.

Marilyn Louise Carlson |1928-2024|

William ‘Bill’ Richard Drews, 89, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Hutchinson Health and Rehab, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;He was born September 29, 1934, in Larned, KS. &nbsp;He was the son of Rutherford Richard Drews and Maxine Humphrey Rhea Drews.&nbsp;

Bill graduated from Wichita East High School. &nbsp;He married JoAnn Elaine Bilsten on January 22, 1954. &nbsp;They raised six daughters while living in Wichita and Hutchinson. &nbsp;Bill and JoAnn loved watching their children and grandchildren participate in sports and other activities.

Bill’s maternal great-grandparents and great-great grandparents settled a few miles south of Fort Larned in 1878 on two quarter sections bought from the railroad. &nbsp;This family history led to his lifelong interest in Fort Larned and the Santa Fe Trail. &nbsp;Bill retired after 30 years with General Motors, and later served on the USD 308 Board of Education. &nbsp;He bottled and sold his own D &amp; D Honey.

Bill is survived by: daughters, Stephanie Drews, Shannon Rayl, Sheridan (Jeff) Johnson, Susan (Mike) Horton, Staci (Neal) Dellett, and Sara (Hans) Hummer; sisters, Joan Noah and Margaret (Jack) McCormick; fourteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, JoAnn.&nbsp;

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. &nbsp;The family will greet friends on the day of the service from 9:45 a.m. until service time at the church.

 </figure>William ‘Bill’ Richard Drews, 89, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Hutchinson Health and Rehab, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;He was born September 29, 1934, in Larned, KS. &nbsp;He was the son of Rutherford Richard Drews and Maxine Humphrey Rhea Drews.&nbsp;Bill graduated from Wichita East High School. &nbsp;He married JoAnn Elaine Bilsten on January 22, 1954. &nbsp;They raised six daughters while living in Wichita and Hutchinson. &nbsp;Bill and JoAnn loved watching their children and grandchildren participate in sports and other activities.Bill’s maternal great-grandparents and great-great grandparents settled a few miles south of Fort Larned in 1878 on two quarter sections bought from the railroad. &nbsp;This family history led to his lifelong interest in Fort Larned and the Santa Fe Trail. &nbsp;Bill retired after 30 years with General Motors, and later served on the USD 308 Board of Education. &nbsp;He bottled and sold his own D &amp; D Honey.Bill is survived by: daughters, Stephanie Drews, Shannon Rayl, Sheridan (Jeff) Johnson, Susan (Mike) Horton, Staci (Neal) Dellett, and Sara (Hans) Hummer; sisters, Joan Noah and Margaret (Jack) McCormick; fourteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, JoAnn.&nbsp;Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Tanya Lua McNany, 70, of Wichita, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas.

Tanya was born on August 20, 1953, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of Jimmie and Marjorie&nbsp;Vincent&nbsp;Johnson. She was raised in Hutchinson, where she graduated from high school.

She later moved to the Phoenix, Arizona area, where she lived for 15 years before relocating to back to Wichita in 1990. In 1994, Tanya married Raymond Lee McNany in Wichita.

Tanya is survived by her husband Ray of Wichita; her sons Dr. David Robertson and his fiancé Joslyn Martinez of Wichita, and Jason Fowler and his wife Leyla of Las Vegas, Nevada; her step-sons Phillip McNany and his wife Heather, and Ronald McNany and his wife Catalina, all of Wichita; her brother James Rodney Johnson and his wife Lynda of Scottsdale, Arizona; and her ten beloved grandchildren.

Robert William “Bob” Demoret, 81, died June 7, 2024, at Hospice of Wichita Falls, TX. &nbsp;He was born November 6, 1942, in Hutchinson, to William Robert and Lola Fern (Uncapher) Demoret. &nbsp;

Bob graduated from Hutchinson High School and attended Hutchinson Junior Community College. &nbsp;He proudly served in the Kansas Army National Guard 35th Divarty, Headquarters Batty, for 23 years and 10 months as a First Sergeant, retiring as a Master Sergeant. Bob also retired from KDOT after 41 years of service. &nbsp;After retirement, he worked three years at Cook-Flatt and Stroble Engineers, out of Topeka, on the Kellogg Road in Wichita. &nbsp;Bob was a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

On June 11, 1967, he married Vicki Jean Ary, at the Christian Church in Lewis, KS. &nbsp;Bob and Vicki lived in Hutchinson most of their married life, and recently moved to Texas, to be closer to family.

Bob is survived by: &nbsp;his wife of almost 57 years, Vicki; daughter, Darcy (Lance) Lindsey of all of Burkburnett, TX; grandchildren, Paxton Robert Demoret and Layla Jean Lindsey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his parents; brothers, Steve Demoret, Danny Demoret, and David Demoret; and sisters, Carolyn Dority and Ellen Sue Bankey-Gore.

Gary L. Stecklein, 79, of Hutchinson, died June 9, 2024, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. He was born June 21, 1944, in Hays, to Frank and Josephine (Legleiter) Stecklein.&nbsp;

Gary graduated from St. Teresa Catholic High School, in 1963. He served the country by joining the United States Navy and aided in the Vietnam War. Gary spent most of his life working in the produce department for Dillons, where he ultimately retired from. He enjoyed a simple life and preferred to keep to himself.&nbsp;

Gary is survived by brother, Dan (Gail) Stecklein, and nephew, Dan Stecklein, Jr.&nbsp;

He was proceeded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will take place at a later date.&nbsp;

Constance ‘Connie’ Joan Lathrop, 85, died June 6, 2024, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;She was born October 8, 1938, in San Jose, CA, to Charles Stallings and Lucille (Waggoner) Stallings.

Connie was a graduate of Ellinwood High School, Ellinwood, KS, and attended Barton County Community College, Great Bend, KS. &nbsp;Connie was involved in her husband’s floor covering business.&nbsp;

Prior to moving to South Hutchinson, KS, she attended Heartland Community Church, Great Bend, KS. Throughout her life she was active in the church and was passionate about serving and providing leadership for the church youth programs, such as the Youth Group, Sunday School, organizing retreats, and establishing youth Christian coffee houses in Ellinwood, KS and Saint John, KS. &nbsp;Connie was an avid student of the Bible. &nbsp;She loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

On October 23, 1955, Connie married Arlyn LeRoy Lathrop, in Ellinwood, KS. &nbsp;They shared over 65 years of marriage, prior to his death on December 5, 2020.

Connie is survived by: &nbsp;her children, Mike (Betty) Lathrop of Monet, MO, Leslye (Walter) Carithers of Hutchinson, KS, Carol (Mark) Pauls of Bloomfield, NJ, and Angela (Jim) Hill of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Shawn (Amber) Carithers, Chris (Sierra Badley) Carithers, Catie (fiancé Andy McCormick) Lathrop, Beth Hill, and Tina Hill; great-grandchildren, Ava Carithers and Daniel Arlyn Carithers; sister, Barbara Wilson of Nash, OK; and lifelong friend, Jean Peevyhouse of Yoder, KS.

She was preceded in death by: &nbsp;her parents; husband; and sister, Diana Meyer.

Veronica Vanessa “Ms. V” Spiller-Guess, 68, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS. Ms. V was born June 4, 1956, in Gary, IN, the daughter of James and Edda-Mae Henderson. On December 31, 2012, she married George Guess in Hutchinson, KS.

Ms. V graduated from Emerson High School, Gary, IN, in 1974. She worked as a CNA and most recently worked as a cashier at the main street Dillons in Hutchinson. Ms. V was known for being a Christian lady and her love for Jesus.

Ms. V was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Sanders; a daughter, Rosa Warner; four brothers, and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, George; sisters, Darlene Henderson and Christine Henderson; and six grandchildren.

He was born in Wichita, Kansas to Merle "Shorty" Edward Lane and Dolores "Corky" Joyce (Sweet) Lane.&nbsp; Raised in the Wichita area where he attended school and was a 1968 graduate of North High School, Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; He went to the Local 441 (171) apprentice school for Plumbers Pipe Fitters, which was his career for 43 years.&nbsp; During that time he met his lovely bride, Jackie Steinbarger, in 1969. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Pratt, Kansas and a member of KAR (Kansas Antique Racing). He was a member of First Baptist Church of Maize, Kansas. He enjoyed his family, friends and racing.&nbsp; He was an avid race fan, loved working on the cars, helping others on theirs and 'chasin racin'.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Shorty &amp; Corky Lane and his sister Gina Herrmann.

Gib is survived by his lovely wife of 53 yrs, Jackie; children Rhonda Lane, Tracy Lane and Randy Lane, all of Wichita; grandchildren Shanda (Curtis) Brown, Brandan (Ashley) Lane, Kristin Church, Michael Lane, Elizabeth Lane and Leeah McHargue, all of Wichita; great grandchildren Rustin Lane, Tristyn Brown and Autumn Brown; sister Joyce Goerzen and brother Bobby (Sharon) Lane, all of Wichita, brother-in-law Dave Herrmann of Colorado, brother-in-law Jimmie (Julie) Steinbarger of Andover, sister-in-law Louanne (Jake) Holt of Oklahoma; many other family and friends.&nbsp;

Gilbert "Gib" Ray Lane |2024|

Frieda Hilda Harder was born on a farm east of Inman, Kansas to John W. and Anna (Doerksen) Wiens on June 8, 1926.&nbsp; She was the oldest and only daughter, followed by her three brothers, Ernie, Wilbur and Edwin.&nbsp; They all attended Inman Grade School and graduated from Inman High School.&nbsp; She was a lifelong Inman resident until her passing on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the age of 97 years.

Growing up, Frieda’s parents had cows and she would often enjoy milking them.&nbsp; She enjoyed it so much she would bribe her brothers with a piece of pie as a trade to milk the cows.&nbsp; Of course, they gladly accepted this.&nbsp; A neighbor’s cow got out of the pasture and ran straight for Frieda when she was younger, playing in the sandpile on the north side of their home.&nbsp; She got ran over by the cow and became scared, but luckily wasn’t hurt.

She remembered traveling to Colorado Springs with the H.E. Kroeker family and how much fun she had on that trip.&nbsp; They stayed in cabins and cooked all their meals together.

Her parents were custodians for Bethel Mennonite Church.&nbsp; Frieda would often help her parents with their duties.&nbsp; They were faithful members of the church and Frieda taught Sunday School for many years at Bethel Church and Crestview Bible Church where she was a current member.&nbsp; In all, she taught over 30 years of Bible School.

Frieda really enjoyed working in the Telephone Office in Inman, where she worked for a number of years.&nbsp; She also worked for Johnson Produce candling eggs.&nbsp; She loved Saturday evenings when friends would come to visit or go into the stores.&nbsp; Frieda enjoyed dressing up and going to the place she worked just to relax and visit with people.&nbsp; She had worked in a café on Main Street, washing dishes and making hamburgers.&nbsp; Frieda saved up money from this job to purchase most of the furniture when she and Millie were first married.

She was united in marriage to Milford John “Millie” Harder on October 14, 1951 in Inman. From this union, five children were born.&nbsp; Their first son, Gary Lee, lived only three days until the Lord took him Home.&nbsp;

Frieda and Millie went on to have four more children, Allen, Alice, Jeanette and Jane. All of their children were all married at Crestview Bible Church in Hutchinson, Kansas, by the same pastor, Rodney Goertzen.

She and Millie shared 66 years of marriage together before his passing on August 27, 2017.

Frieda was very thankful the Lord had led her, Millie, and their family on their journey through life.&nbsp; She was grateful for God’s blessings and guidance in her and her family’s lives.&nbsp; Frieda will be remembered and missed by the residents at Pleasant View Home, as many would hear her say “Amen” and “Praise the Lord” when they would walk past her open door.

She is survived by her son, Allen (Miriam) Harder of Omaha, NE; daughters, Alice (Tim) Koehn of Okeene, OK, Jeanette (Gary) Freel of Clovis, CA, and Jane (Scott) Schriner of Inman; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Wilbur (Reta) Wiens of Inman, and Edwin (Twila) Wiens of Houston, TX.

Frieda was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Gary Lee Harder; and brother, Ernie Wiens.

Cremation is planned with memorial services to be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the Pleasant View Home Chapel, 108 N Walnut, Inman, Kansas, 67546.  Private burial will take place at North Inman Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View Home in care of Buhler Mortuary, PO Box 589, Buhler, KS 67522.

 </figure>Frieda Hilda Harder was born on a farm east of Inman, Kansas to John W. and Anna (Doerksen) Wiens on June 8, 1926.&nbsp; She was the oldest and only daughter, followed by her three brothers, Ernie, Wilbur and Edwin.&nbsp; They all attended Inman Grade School and graduated from Inman High School.&nbsp; She was a lifelong Inman resident until her passing on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the age of 97 years.Growing up, Frieda’s parents had cows and she would often enjoy milking them.&nbsp; She enjoyed it so much she would bribe her brothers with a piece of pie as a trade to milk the cows.&nbsp; Of course, they gladly accepted this.&nbsp; A neighbor’s cow got out of the pasture and ran straight for Frieda when she was younger, playing in the sandpile on the north side of their home.&nbsp; She got ran over by the cow and became scared, but luckily wasn’t hurt.She remembered traveling to Colorado Springs with the H.E. Kroeker family and how much fun she had on that trip.&nbsp; They stayed in cabins and cooked all their meals together.Her parents were custodians for Bethel Mennonite Church.&nbsp; Frieda would often help her parents with their duties.&nbsp; They were faithful members of the church and Frieda taught Sunday School for many years at Bethel Church and Crestview Bible Church where she was a current member.&nbsp; In all, she taught over 30 years of Bible School.Frieda really enjoyed working in the Telephone Office in Inman, where she worked for a number of years.&nbsp; She also worked for Johnson Produce candling eggs.&nbsp; She loved Saturday evenings when friends would come to visit or go into the stores.&nbsp; Frieda enjoyed dressing up and going to the place she worked just to relax and visit with people.&nbsp; She had worked in a café on Main Street, washing dishes and making hamburgers.&nbsp; Frieda saved up money from this job to purchase most of the furniture when she and Millie were first married.She was united in marriage to Milford John “Millie” Harder on October 14, 1951 in Inman. From this union, five children were born.&nbsp; Their first son, Gary Lee, lived only three days until the Lord took him Home.&nbsp;Frieda and Millie went on to have four more children, Allen, Alice, Jeanette and Jane. Lindsay Lee Oliver, 41, of Galva, KS and formerly of McPherson, KS, entered the arms of Jesus on Friday, June 7, 2024.

Lindsay was born on June 11, 1982, in Moundridge, KS, the daughter of Ronald Ray and Joyce Elaine (Plenert) Gingrich.&nbsp; She graduated from Calhan High School (Colorado) in 2000.&nbsp; She continued her education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO, received her bachelor’s degree from University of Colorado &nbsp;in Colorado Springs and a master’s degree from Fort Hays State University.

She was a Special Education Teacher at the Canton-Galva Jr./Sr. High School and formerly at the McPherson Middle School.&nbsp; Lindsay was a member of First United Methodist Church, McPherson.

On July 7, 2021, Lindsay was united in marriage to Joshua Oliver at the Margaritaville Resort in Missouri.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Joshua; children, Ethan Harrington, Blake Harrington, Afton Harrington, and Haven Oliver;&nbsp; mother, Joyce Gingrich of McPherson, KS; siblings, Jenny Gingrich, Adam Gingrich, and Cody Bacon, all of McPherson, KS; parents-in-law, Jim &amp; Bernie Oliver of Canton, KS; brother-in-law, Jason Oliver of Canton, KS; grandmother, Millie Stucky of McPherson, KS; the father of Ethan, Blake, &amp; Afton, Jeremy Harrington of McPherson, KS; and many extended family members and a host of friends.

Last but not least, she is survived by her six fur babies.&nbsp; There was never a rescue animal Lindsay did not want.

Lindsay was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Gingrich, and grandparents, Roland &amp; Etta Mae Plenert.

A date for Lindsay’s celebration of life will be held and announced in the coming days.

Donnie Lee (Don) McCaskill, 70 of Mount Hope, Kansas passed away on June 7, 2024, at the Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kansas surrounded by his family. He was born March 8th, 1954, in Hutchinson, Kansas to J.B. and Alice (Meyer) McCaskill. He graduated from Burrton High School in 1972 and from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in 1996.

On December 12, 1981, he married the love of his life, Patti (Abbey) in Mount Hope, Kansas. He dedicated almost 43 years to loving her. Don worked in Law Enforcement as a police officer for both the Mount Hope and Colwich Police Departments before becoming the Mount Hope Police Chief until he retired in 2012. Don was also a member of the Mount Hope Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Don was very involved in the city; he was currently serving on the Mount Hope EMS and Larsen Community Center Association boards and previously served as the president of the City Council. The last few months, he fought a courageous battle against esophageal cancer.

Don loved his family with all his heart. He is survived by his wife, daughters Nicole DeLuna (Luis), Lindsey Younkin (Bobby), grandsons Garrett McCaskill and Dominic DeLuna and granddaughter Avery Younkin, his sisters Nelda Dow and Nona Perriman (Bob), brothers Larry McCaskill (Cindy) and Dwayne McCaskill (Lori) and a host nieces and nephews. Other survivors are his brothers-in-law Tim Abbey (Cindy) and Kim Cooley and sister-in-law Pam Stubby. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Loretta Lewis and Barbara McCaskill Harper, brother Jay B., Jr., Brother-in-law Merwin Lewis and sisters-in-law Marilyn McCaskill and Sheryl Cooley.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus located at 318 E. Rush Avenue in Andale, Kansas; lunch to follow.

Sloan.&nbsp; Raised in the Valley Center, Kansas area where he attended school and was a 1978 graduate of Valley Center High School. After graduation he attended WSU. He was gifted in his career choice as a Graphics Designer.&nbsp; He also enjoyed coin collecting, woodworking and carpentry.

He is preceded in death by his brothers Randy Sloan and Richard Sloan.

David is survived by his parents, his brother Chris Sloan, his sister Frances (Deanne) Phillips, niece Katrina Maskaid and nephew David Phillips.

Mary Jane Janzen, 83, died June 7, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born January 3, 1941, in Lucas, KS, to Paul and Wilma Dean (Girton) Brozek.

Mary graduated from Lucas High School and attended Salt City Business College for two years. She worked for Consolidated Manufacturing and Western Foods in Hutchinson.

Along with her passion for bowling, Mary enjoyed gardening, shopping, and cherished her family deeply. Her dedication to remembering birthdays and anniversaries ensured her loved ones felt special and speaks volumes about her caring nature.

On April 14, 1979, she married Levi D. Janzen in Hutchinson. They shared over 38 years of marriage, prior to his death on January 6, 2018.

Mary is survived by: her children, Aldon (Alma) Isenberg, Steve (Norma Jane) Isenberg, Marlo (Doug) Janzen, Michelle (Dale) Bird; siblings, Aldon (Fredda) Brozek, Zina (Lonnie) Hayden, Bob (Janice) Brozek; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Levi Janzen; parents; parents-in-law, Abe and Elizabeth Janzen; son, James Daniel; brother, Emery Brozek; and sister, Erma Jeanne Isenberg.
