Earldean “Dean” Hamilton, 95 years young, a resident of&nbsp; Sylvia for the past 34 years, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 7, 2021. She was born August 21, 1925, in Stafford County, to Earl J. and Mildred (Fuson) Richardson.&nbsp; As a young girl, Dean lived and attended schools in Stafford County.

On June 9, 1943, Dean married Jack L. Hamilton in Hutchinson. &nbsp;They shared over 55 years of marriage before his death on May 17, 1999.&nbsp; Dean and Jack lived 56 years in Reno County on the “2H Ranch”. Dean was bookkeeper for the ranch, a farm wife, and volunteered wherever she was needed.&nbsp; She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene, Sylvia.

Dean is survived by: daughter, Judy Young of Sylvia; grandchildren, Staci Keeler and husband James, Stephanie Pierce-Little and husband Steve, all of Hutchinson, Cole Young and wife Lisa of Frisco, TX, Troy Young and wife Hannah of Turon; 10 great-grandchildren, Jake and Ali Pierce, Madison and Mason Little, Brandon Keeler and wife Audrey, Kassidy Keeler, Cinch Young, and Lily, Cate and Anna Young.

Dean was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Edd E.; and siblings, Helen Berry and Wade D. Richardson.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Monday, July 12, 2021, at Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene, 406 S. Shepherd, Sylvia, with Pastor James Davis presiding. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp; The family will greet friends Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Earl Polk, 76, died suddenly Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the Farmer’s Market.  He was born May 6, 1945, in Hutchinson, to Calvin Arnold and Earline Estell (Stoughton) Polk. 

During his childhood, Earl lived at Castleton and helped his grandfather, Earl Stoughton at Riverbanks Orchard.  In 1963, he graduated from Pretty Prairie High School.  Earl then attended Hutchinson Community College, and graduated from Kansas State University with a Degree in Horticulture.  Following Kansas State, he served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969.  After returning to Reno County, Earl worked seven years for his grandfather at Riverbanks Orchard, spending three years operating it.  In 1977, Earl bought a market in Medora, “Polk’s Farm Market”.  For over 44 years, and even at the time of his death, Earl was still selling fruits and vegetables at Polk’s Farm Market and the Farmer’s Market. Raising and selling fruits and vegetables, especially peaches and pumpkins, were Earl’s passion.  In addition, in 1985, he helped found the Reno County Producers Market, and was still an active member.

In 1963, Earl met the love of his life, Pam Greenfield while working at Riverbanks Orchard.    On December 31, 1965, they were married in Hutchinson, sharing over 55 years of marriage. In 1981, they were blessed with a daughter, Sparkle Strawberry Greenfield Polk.  Earl and Pam were a team, working alongside each other, with their daughter and her family when it came to running Polk’s Farm Market.   

Earl is survived by:  wife, Pam; daughter, Sparkle Faidley (Luke); grandchildren, Malachie Lehmann (fiancée Ali Roberts) and Sophia Faidley; nephews, J. J. Polk (Amanda) and Jeff Polk (Jacy); brother-in-law, John Murphy (Micki); uncle, Larry Black; brother-in-law, Billy Greenfield (Ruthann); and a host of customers, who were more like family.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; sister, Debbie Polk Murphy; and brother, Jerry Polk.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with John Murphy officiating. Cremation will follow the service.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, with the family present Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Earl Polk |1945-2021|

Helen Irene Bloom, 92, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas.  She was born on her family farm southeast of Overbrook, KS on June 18, 1929. Her parents were Charles and Ruth Ingle. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Overbrook High School. Following graduation, she attended one semester of Kansas State Teachers College where she earned a teaching certificate. She returned home and taught in a one-room school, Cargie School.  It was during this year that she met her husband, Max Bloom. They were married July 17, 1949. To this union, two girls were born.

In their early wedded years, Max worked oil drilling sites and they traveled the Midwest-Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana, pulling their mobile home to the closest city where Max worked. They returned to Kansas when Bonnie started school. They lived in Topeka most of their adult life. Helen made a home and raised her two daughters. She was active in helping with Girl Scouts, church activities and school events. When she became an empty nester, she attended Kaw Valley Vo-Tech School and earned her LPN certificate. She worked at Stormont-Vail as a surgical technician and was a member of the first open heart surgical team. She retired in 1993 and she and Max spent time together in Apache Junction, AZ as snowbirds. They gave up their primary residence in Topeka and relocated to a retirement community in Hesston, KS where they were able to spend more time with Roni's children and enjoy the activities of the community.

Those left to share her memory include her daughters, Bonnie and Bob Totten of Topeka and Roni and John Caffrey of Hesston. Grandchildren include, Jessie White and Amanda Walton of Topeka, Dustin and Emily Hamilton of Larkspur, CO, Darcy and Brett Esau of Beatrice, NE, Levi Caffrey of Lenexa, Jeremy and Jennifer Totten of Lawrence, and Nicholas Totten and Kyrie Lynch of Lawrence. She cherished 8 great grandchildren  and her sister, Viola and Bob Remington of Topeka, multiple nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Max, her parents and a sister, Margaret Skaggs.

She was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Topeka and attended Hesston United Methodist Church.  She participated in the Menninger Bible Study for many years.

Rose K. Yost, 99, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away July 9, 2021 at Moundridge Manor.  She was born April 29, 1922 in rural Galva, Kansas, the daughter of John C. and Eva (Koehn) Koehn.

She was united in marriage to Emery D. Yost on April 9, 1944. 

Rose was a member of Garden View Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, rural Halstead.

Rose is survived by her children, Kathy Yost of Hesston, Esther Yost of Moundridge, Rita (Lowell) Koehn of Benito Manitoba, Canada, Don (Tamara) Yost of Halstead, and Susan (Milton) Unruh of Galva; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn Dyck of Moundridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters and three brothers.

Rose K. Yost |1922-2021|

Gail Dean Menard was born on August 27, 1939, in Concordia, Kansas to John Julian Menard and Regina Bernadette Marcotte. Gail had two siblings, an older brother Donald Menard, and a younger brother Gary Menard who proceeded him in death in 2011. Gail was blessed in a 50 year union with the late Carolyn LeBlanc in Clyde, Kansas and from that marriage had four children. The first of their children was a son, Galen born in Concordia, Kansas. After a move to Clay Center, Kansas, the addition of two daughters, Lori and Lisa further enriched their lives and family. Lori proceeded him in death in 2018. In 1961, the family relocated to McPherson and later added another daughter, Lana. Gail enjoyed employment in the insurance business, as a radio announcer, and then as a salesman for McPherson Business Machines. He would later become General Manager and owner of this business. Later in life, Gail sold his business and returned to radio as an Account Executive for Radio Kansas. In 2007, Gail joined in marriage to Ila Fae Mackey in Oklahoma City. This union brought Gail so much happiness and enabled him to continue his love of travel, taking them coast to coast and on several cruises. His life was also enriched by adding Ila’s adult children and grandchildren. They made their home in Owasso, Oklahoma before moving to Silver Arrow Independent Living in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma due to Gail’s health condition. Gail’s love for the Lord made music and bible teaching an important part of his life. Not only was he a member of many church choirs through the years, his love of music would lead him to helping orchestrate a group called SGM which promoted Southern Gospel Music groups to perform in McPherson. Other interests were playing golf, astronomy, cards, and watching sports. But playing the card game Pitch is what brought out his competitive side. Better known as Ampa and Papa, Gail was especially proud of his nine grandchildren: Lindsey (Matthew), Josh (Rachelle), Tara (Hugh), Sydney (Josh), Jason (Heidi), Sara (Jake), Jared (Karissa), Clarissa, and Emily (Kendall). There were numerous trips to the park, Dairy Queen, and was always willing to play a game at the house. Gail never missed a single graduation or wedding, and he loved visiting and hearing about each of their interests. Gail thought of his children’s spouses as his own. Rhonda Menard, Park Estes, Kevin Fenimore and Ila’s children, Melody Mills (Steve), Mike Mackey (Angela), Mark Mackey (Belinda) and Monte Mackey were all loved and important parts of his life. Gail entered peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, surrounded by family at his home in Broken Arrow, OK. He was eighty-one. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church with Pastor Jared Menard officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time, Thursday, at the church. A private graveside service will be held at the McPherson Cemetery. Melvin R. Handkins was born at the family farm in Kingman County, Kansas, and died April 4, 2020 in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 91. 

He graduated from Kingman High School, then worked at the farm implement store in Kingman, farmed with his dad, and took classes at Wichita (State) University. He married his sweetheart Delia in 1950, after about 200 letters written while she taught music in Newton, and a couple of wrecked cars from driving late between towns. Mel then joined the National Guard and took officer’s training, later serving his country in the army during the Korean Conflict, eventually retiring with the rank of Captain in the Reserves. After returning home, Mel took advantage of the GI bill, and graduated from Kansas State University in 1960 with a degree in Industrial Engineering, while their 4 young children cheered and probably slowed him down! His first job was with Collins Radio Company, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which was making equipment for space launches at the time. Later, he worked for Western Auto in Kansas City, where he and Delia made their home for many years. Mel was a woodworker, restored antique clocks, sang with his wife and many other groups, played softball, and loved rooting for the K.C. Royals. Mel and Delia were always active in church, attending weekly at least, serving on various committees, and of course singing in the choir. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his loyalty to friends, and family. 

Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delia, his parents Earl and Pauline, and 4 siblings Paul, Harold, Eugene, and Edna Marie, he is survived by his children David Handkins (Debbie), Dan Handkins (Shelly), Dianne Karges (Todd), Becky Zieman (Marshall), his 13 grandchildren, Tim Karges (Elissa), Josh Karges (Ty), Matthew Karges (Sunny), Joy Karges (Josiah), Natalia Hayes (Cade), Suzanne Zieman, Ben Zieman (Rachel), Bridget Handkins (Lindsay), Elliot Handkins, Gavin Handkins (Maranda), Rachel Handkins (Max), Jackson Handkins, and Mollie Handkins. He also leaves his joyous 5 great grandchildren, Noah, Abraham, June, Walter, and Lincoln, and many loved nieces, nephews, and friends, especially David and Susan Maughan. 

Services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, at Westwood Presbyterian Church in Wichita, Kansas.

Mel was a woodworker, restored antique clocks, sang with his wife and many other groups, played softball, and loved rooting for the K.C. Royals. Mel and Delia were always active in church, attending weekly at least, serving on various committees, and of course singing in the choir. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his loyalty to friends, and family. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delia, his parents Earl and Pauline, and 4 siblings Paul, Harold, Eugene, and Edna Marie, he is survived by his children David Handkins (Debbie), Dan Handkins (Shelly), Dianne Karges (Todd), Becky Zieman (Marshall), his 13 grandchildren, Tim Karges (Elissa), Josh Karges (Ty), Matthew Karges (Sunny), Joy Karges (Josiah), Natalia Hayes (Cade), Suzanne Zieman, Ben Zieman (Rachel), Bridget Handkins (Lindsay), Elliot Handkins, Gavin Handkins (Maranda), Rachel Handkins (Max), Jackson Handkins, and Mollie Handkins. He also leaves his joyous 5 great grandchildren, Noah, Abraham, June, Walter, and Lincoln, and many loved nieces, nephews, and friends, especially David and Susan Maughan. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, at Westwood Presbyterian Church in Wichita, Kansas.

Christine Schoenfeld, 57, of Hutchinson, died July 6, 2021, while sleeping peacefully at home. She was born October 23, 1963, in Bayshore, NY, to Arnold A. and Frances C. (Lucarello) Bardoneschi.

Christine received her bachelors and master’s degrees from the University of Hawaii. A Hutchinson resident since 2004, she was a devoted wife and mother. An avid Grateful Dead fan, Christine was a free spirit, and an animal lover and activist. She was a member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson.

Christine is survived by her husband, Jeff W. Schoenfeld, whom she married August 25, 2001 in Lake Tahoe, NV. Also surviving are: daughter, Gianna Schoenfeld of Hutchinson; mother, Frances Ellingboe (Steve) of Buhler; sister, Suzanne Thomson (Jeff) of Buhler; and numerous fur babies. She was preceded in death by her father.

Nelmarie “Nel” Epperley Sidlow joined her Heavenly Father on October 2, 2019 in Denver, CO. 

Nel was born to Everett and Ida Epperley in Oklahoma City, OK on April 9, 1938.  She attended most of her grade school in Haven, Kansas, and she graduated from Haven High School in 1956.  She had a beautiful soprano singing voice and often sang solos at local high school musical concerts, and also played woodwinds and organ.  She attended Fort Hays State College (now University), Hays, Kansas, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in May 1961.  She taught English and Home Economics in Wichita, the Denver area, and other towns in Kansas and Colorado for much of her life.

Nel married, and she had two children, Danalynne “Dana” Sidlow (now deceased) and Michael Darren Sidlow.  The family moved to the Denver, Colorado area, where we remember Nel and the kids would often take crafts classes (macramé, ceramics, etc.) together, and she would ferry Michael to his fly-tying classes.  Fishing and backpacking were frequent family pastimes in those years, and Nel loved hiking and was always glad to be outdoors in the mountains. 

Nel later divorced, and spent subsequent decades as an independent working woman in Denver.  In August 1981, she received a Master of Science with a major in Gerontology from University of Northern Colorado.  Nel worked several years for the Colorado Council on Aging, writing grants and establishing new programs for the aging while there.

While living in Colorado in later years, Nel changed her name to Anne Steele.  During this part of her life, she helped many, volunteering at soup kitchens, donating items to charity, and giving the elderly rides to church and out for meals.  Nel prayed for the whole family daily.  The Bible was always by her nightstand.  She trusted God’s will in all things.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Dana.  She is survived by her son Michael (San Francisco, CA), granddaughter Christine Giebenrath, six great-grandchildren (all of Denver, CO), and her sisters Shirley (Wayne) Annsun-Donner and Marjorie Koenig (both of Wichita).

Nel was cremated.  A private family graveside service and interment will be held this summer at Laurel Cemetery, Haven, KS.  Anne’s wishes were to have her family and friends know that she loved them.

Carolyn Meier Denchfield, age 85, passed away July 4, 2021, at the Logan
 County Senior Living Center. She was born Carolyn Weigel, to Wilhelmina
 Weigel, in Chicago, Illinois, on January 27, 1936. Her mother passed 
away in March of 1943. Carolyn was then adopted by Wendle and Josephine
 Knoll Meier, of Holcomb, Kansas, in April 1944. Although she was an 
only child, she was surrounded by numerous cousins from the Meier and 
Knoll families. 
She lived on a farm near Holcomb and attended school there until the 
middle of 7th grade when they moved to Garden City. She completed 7th 
and 8th grade at St. Mary's Parochial School. When she was in the 9th 
grade, her English class presented a Christmas play, "No Room at the 
Inn" and that is where she first met Keith Denchfield. He played the 
part of Joseph and she played the part of Mary. She knew Keith during 
high school, but they never dated. She graduated from Garden City High 
School with the class of 1953. 
After graduation she worked as a store clerk at Ideal Foods and then as a
 bank teller at Garden National Bank. In December of 1956 Keith was 
home for Christmas vacation. He came into the bank and asked her to 
attend a class reunion their class was having. She agreed and they 
continued dating and were married September 1, 1957. They welcomed Mark 
in 1959, Jeffrey in 1962 and Wendy in 1964. 
Keith joined the Kansas Highway Patrol in 1962 and was assigned to 
various locations in northwest Kansas, finally ending up in WaKeeney in 
1966. Carolyn went to work for the Ralph Clark Law Firm. Upon Ralph's 
retirement, she went to work for the Probate Judge. During her time with
 the judge, the court system unified, and she became the Deputy Clerk of
 the District Court working for Cora Hladek. She was appointed the Clerk
 of the District Court of Trego County February 1983, where she remained
 until her retirement in September 2001. 
Carolyn was a lifetime member of the Gamma Eta Sorority, with 57 years 
of service, a 50 year member of Christ the King Catholic Church, 
WaKeeney and most recently, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 
Oakley. She enjoyed reading and scrapbooking, but her greatest joy was 
being ‘Grammy’ to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During 
their retirement years Keith and Carolyn traveled around the country to 
visit family and friends. They also enjoyed many adventures with the 
class of 1953. She was an amazing daughter, wife, mom, grammy and 
friend and will be missed dearly. 
Survivors include her husband, Keith, of Oakley; sons, Mark Denchfield 
and wife Pauline, of Hutchinson and Jeffrey Denchfield and wife Sherry, 
of Greenwood Village, Colorado; daughter Wendy Glassman and husband 
David, of Oakley; four grandchildren, who were her joy, Allison 
Glassman, Ethan Glassman, Derek Glassman and wife Sadie and Cole 
Denchfield and three great-granddaughters, who she was blessed to be 
near, Ronnie Josephine, Hattie Rose, and Evie Lyn. 
She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Wilhelmina Weigel; her 
parents, Wendle and Josephine Meier; grandparents, John and Elizabeth 
Meier and Adam and Eva Knoll and father and mother-In-Law Ray and 
Mildred Denchfield.

Barbara Jean (Watkins) Hollingshead passed from this life on July 7, 2021 at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Kansas.

Barb was born in Newton, on July 10, 1930, as the third child and only daughter to Homer and Gwen Watkins.  She was active in the First Baptist Church and worked at Graves Drug store as a young teenager through high school, graduating in 1948. In 1951 she moved to Kansas City where she met Charles Hollingshead on a blind date and married him six weeks later – a marriage that lasted for 65 years until his death in 2016.

In 1956, Chuck and Barb moved back to Newton with their two small children to be closer to her family.  Barb became a stay at home Mom until 1967 when she went to work for JC Penny. She was active in several churches over the years including First Baptist, Bible Baptist and Newton Bible. Between the years of 1983 to 2000, they lived in Lyons, KS and Colorado Springs, CO, after which they returned to Newton.  Barb greatly enjoyed volunteering at Elderly Care Facilities and spent several years working with Source of Light in Newton.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 10 at Peterson Funeral Home in Newton. A viewing will be held at Peterson’s on Friday, July 9, and final internment will be at Eastlawn Cemetery in Zimmerdale. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chuck, three brothers Robert (Lee) of Newton, Mack (Glenda) of Newton, William (Loraine) of Newton.  Survivors include one brother Larry (Patricia) of Tyler TX, Son Dan (Patti) Hollingshead of Longmont CO, Daughter Becky (Bill) Smoldt of Osborne KS, and Son Tim (Denise) Hollingshead of Wichita, KS.  Her survivors include six Grandchildren and 20 Great-Grandchildren.

Randy George McElheny, 66, of Hutchinson, KS was surrounded by his family when he went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2021.

He was born on March 20, 1955 in Hutchinson, Ks. The son of Maynard George and Wilma McElheny. He retired from Hutchinson Regional Medical Center as housekeeping supervisor.

On June 6, 1974 he married the love of his life, Vickie Hall, in Turon, Ks. She survives with their beloved dog Pumpkin. They were blessed with three children all surviving. Greg (Amy) McElheny, Lorie (Roger) Wingert, Robbin (Gary) Green, all residing in Hutchinson. Randy was “Papa” to 15 grand kids and 12 great grand kids.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents; and brother; Timothy McElheny and brother-in-law Gary Walters. He is survived by his sisters; Debra (Curtis) Shankle, Cheryl (Ben) Newell, Susan (Greg) Rickett and Christina Walters.

Larry Eugene Watts, 78, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 in Newton, Kansas.  He was a life long resident of Peabody, Marion County, Kansas. He was a 1961 graduate of Peabody High School, Peabody, Kansas. After graduation, he joined the military where he served from 1961 – 1966.  On April 16, 1965, he married Sandra Sue Sebree. They were married 43 years until her death.  Larry was a member of the American Legion which he took great pride in.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and especially chasing big foot. His greatest joy was time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his wife Sandra Sue Watts, daughter Denise Diane Hamm, sons Wyatt Patrick Watts and Troy Scott Watts, parents Gerald “Boss” Watts and Pearl (Davis) Watts, brothers Jerry (Lynn) Watts and Wayne (Peggy) Watts.

Larry is survived by his daughter Carrie Watts; grandchildren Lauren Sattler, Amber Todd, Chad Litton, Jake (Hannah) Watts and Isaiah Watts; great grandchildren Austin Stahlheber, Talyn Stahlheber, Adyson Wolf, Kayden Fistler, Kinsley Watts, Bailey Watts, Lacey Watts, Troy Watts and Desery Watts.

Bevo Gilbert Saiz, 79, passed away July 3, 2021, at his residence.  He was born July 15, 1941, in Las Vegas, NM.  Bevo was the son of Rita (Cole) Saiz.

He was employed as an expeditor at Krause Plow, retiring with 41 years of service.  He served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1960 to 1965.  Bevo was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, and participated as an Adorer in the church’s Adoration Chapel for over 30 years.  He enjoyed watching car races, football, and basketball.  Bevo’s greatest enjoyment however, was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their activities.

On May 6, 1961, he married Lupe Garcia.  She passed away on April 28, 1985.  Bevo married Lydia J. Garcia on August 27, 1988, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  They shared over 32 years of marriage.

He is survived by:  wife, Lydia Saiz of Hutchinson; sons, Frankie Saiz, Phillip Saiz, and Edward Saiz, all of Hutchinson;  step-children, Jesse (Jona) Juma of Hutchinson, Grace Stone of Tucson, AZ, and Ramon (Milleta) Juma of North Carolina; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bevo was preceded in death by:  his mother; wife, Lupe; great-grandson, Santino Saiz; and step-granddaughter, Maya Juma.

HUTCHINSON – Letha Hildebrand, 91, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  Born December 31, 1929 at Stafford she was the daughter of Ernest and Augusta Wendelburg Hildebrand.  She graduated from Ottawa University.  She taught elementary school in Dodge City for 36 years.  After retiring Letha moved to Hutchinson.  She enjoyed reading, listening to hymns and traveling.  She especially enjoyed her travels to Israel and Alaska.  She loved God and was looking forward to seeing her loved ones in Heaven.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Hutchinson and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Letha is survived by niece: Donita Hedrick of Hutchinson.  Great nieces: Pam (Jesse) Wells of Enterprise, KS and Nancy French of Hutchinson.  One great-great niece, two great-great nephews and several cousins.  Preceding her in death were her parents, sister and brother-in-law: Virginia and Ralph Hedrick, and her two nephews: Gordon Hedrick and Stephen Hedrick.

William Franklin King, 78, died at home surrounded by family on July 2nd, 2021. Bill was born on May 25th, 1943 in Waukee, Iowa to Claude and Esther King.

When Bill was a child the King family moved from Iowa to Wichita, where Claude worked for the Wichita School System as a window glazer.  In 1959, Bill met the love of his life, Nancy Harrison, while working as a sacker at the Razook’s grocery store.  On December 1st, 1960 Bill married Nancy. They had two children, Polly and Jeff.  Tragically in 1967, Nancy’s mother died and Bill took Nancy’s younger siblings, Roger and Kristine, into his family and raised them as his own.

Bill was always a hard worker and had a variety of skills. He spent years of his life working in the meat processing industry which took him to different towns in Kansas, including Jewell, Ingalls, and Wichita. He retired as a welder from Adco industries in Hesston. But his favorite job, early in his life, was working as a supervisor making blueprints. But the $1.50 an hour they were paying him wasn’t enough so he decided to quit.

Bill lived the last years of his life on a farm outside of Halstead. Bill was a people person and he never met a stranger. He loved his family and pets and working on projects in his shop. He always had a laugh and a twinkle in his eye, that drew people to him. He was reliable, full of common sense, and knew how to have a good time.  He could be onery and it took years for cancer to finally win the battle. He enjoyed life and fought until the end.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Esther King; brother, Major King; Sister Wilma Foster; and nephew/son, Roger Harrison.

He is survived by his wife Nancy; brother Tom King, who is currently very ill; his daughter Polly (Tim) Douglas; son Jeff (Tami) King; niece/daughter Kristine (Craig) Robinett.  Granddaughters Amy and Ashley Douglas; Great granddaughters Haeley and Brooklyn. He had many nieces and nephews many of whom considered him a grandpa and a hero.

A celebration of life will be held at the Halstead Park in the Fall. Date to be determined.

Timothy Wayne “Tim” Johnson, 48, of Salina, Kansas, passed away July 6, 2021 at his home, after a prolonged illness. 

He was born January 22, 1973, in Ft. Carson, Colorado, the son of Walter E. Johnson and Carol A. Henry. Tim graduated from Lyons High School, Lyons, Kansas, with the class of 1992; and later received his ASE Certification from Hutchinson Community College. He has resided in Salina since 2008, formerly of Hoisington and Lyons. Tim worked as a painter for Cessna, Spirit, and Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, and at Hodges Body Shop in Lyons. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and most of all spending time with his family. 

On December 23, 2006, Tim was united in marriage with Beckie Dreiling in Hoisington. She survives of the home along with their four children, Zoie, Zylie, Zurie, and Zade; and their beloved dog, Ziggy. Tim is also survived by his mother, Carol Stewart (Mike) of Lyons; father, Walter Johnson (Chasity) of AL; and a mother to him, Denise Froehlich of Michigan; six siblings, Wally Johnson (Stephanie) of College Station, TX, Cody Luck (Jennifer) of Lyons, Neil Johnson (Jessie) of Michigan, Mandy Paterson (Keith) of Michigan, Stephanie Minix (Steve) of Lyons, and Michelle Richmond (Mark) of Rolla, MO; mother-in-law, Sharon Dreiling of Hoisington; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Tim is going to be reunited in heaven with his father, Dennis Luck; favorite uncle, Fred Henry; and best friends, Vern and Barb Stutz.

Mary Ann Scheuerman, 86, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away July 5, 2021 at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. 

She was born August 28, 1934 at home in Bushton, Kansas, the daughter of Leo and Minnie Withers Feist. Mary was a near lifelong Lyons resident, formerly of Bushton. She was a waitress at various restaurants. Mary was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Lyons. Mary was united in marriage with Richard Henry Doeden. He preceded her in death in 1980. On May 19, 2006, Mary was united in marriage with Leonard Eugene Scheuerman in Lyons. 

He preceded her in death on October 31, 2015. Mary is also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Wayne Feist; and two sisters, Margaret Killingsworth and Barbara Hughes. She is survived by her son, Rick Doeden of Lyons; three daughters, Terri Hernandez of Lyons, Shirleen Cook of Lyons, and Pam Brittain of Lantana, TX; two step-sons, Jim Scheuerman of Greensburg, KS, and Jack Scheuerman of Larned, KS; step-daughter, Sherry Headley of Mora, NM; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Harold John Gossman, 78, of Hutchinson, died July 5, 2021, at his home. He was born February 13, 1943, in Decorah, IA, to Francis and Mae (Ryan) Gossman.

Harold graduated from high school in 1961 and served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965. After his honorable discharge, Harold went to work for IBM and Collins Radio before moving to Tucson, AZ, to work for Tucson Electric Power, retiring in 1999. A Hutchinson resident since 2005, Harold loved being outside working in his yard and volunteering for Friendship Meals and Sundance Farms. He was of the Catholic faith.

On July 15, 1978, Harold married Marcie Padgett, in Tucson. She survives.

Also surviving are: sons, Ken Gossman of Magdalena, NM, Bill Gossman (Rachel) of Ankeny, IA, Jonathan Wiest (Angela) of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Liam Gossman, Kinlee Wiest, Adyson Gossman, Noah Gossman; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard Gossman.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

Darold Eugene Bradford, 86, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 3:45 p.m., Friday, July 2nd, 2021 peacefully at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kansas.

Darold was born in Galva, Kansas on October 28, 1934, a son of William Clarence and Violet Berle (Nichols) Bradford.

Darold attended McPherson and Saline country schools and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1953.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in McPherson, Darold was Baptized on April 2, 1961 by Reverend Victor Trower.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a Electrician Mate 3rd Class on the U.S.S. Frank E. Evans and he received the Good Conduct Medal..

Through the years Darold worked for Graves Drug Store, Moody's Apco, Kansas Cylinder Head, Swick Guth, Sterling Drug, and retired after 20 years of service from the maintenance department of Sanofi.

Darold was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, McPherson, Kansas. He enjoyed working in his workshop tinkering and loved his cats and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Darold Eugene Bradford was united in marriage to Carol Lee Bever on April 22, 1961 at McPherson, Kansas where they established their first home together. This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter and a son, Debra and Kevin.

He is survived by his children, Debra D. Johnson and her husband Doug, of McPherson, Kansas and Kevin S. Bradford and his wife Kim, of Wichita, Kansas; his brother William "Bill" Bradford and his wife Neva, of Mountain City, Tennessee; other relatives and a host of friends.

He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Lauren A. Bradford, Nathan D. Johnson, Alaina D. Polston(Mason), Janell D. Parton(Nick), Ashley L. Dreasher and Megan N. Dreasher

Darold was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carol.

A graveside service will be held on July 8, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas, with Reverend John Pattison officiating.

Darold Eugene Bradford, 86, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 3:45 p.m., Friday, July 2nd, 2021 peacefully at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kansas.Darold was born in Galva, Kansas on October 28, 1934, a son of William Clarence and Violet Berle (Nichols) Bradford.Darold attended McPherson and Saline country schools and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1953.He was a member of First Baptist Church in McPherson, Darold was Baptized on April 2, 1961 by Reverend Victor Trower.He served in the U.S. Navy as a Electrician Mate 3rd Class on the U.S.S. Frank E. Evans and he received the Good Conduct Medal..Through the years Darold worked for Graves Drug Store, Moody's Apco, Kansas Cylinder Head, Swick Guth, Sterling Drug, and retired after 20 years of service from the maintenance department of Sanofi.Darold was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, McPherson, Kansas. He enjoyed working in his workshop tinkering and loved his cats and loved spending time with his grandchildren.Darold Eugene Bradford was united in marriage to Carol Lee Bever on April 22, 1961 at McPherson, Kansas where they established their first home together. This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter and a son, Debra and Kevin.He is survived by his children, Debra D. Johnson and her husband Doug, of McPherson, Kansas and Kevin S. Bradford and his wife Kim, of Wichita, Kansas; his brother William "Bill" Bradford and his wife Neva, of Mountain City, Tennessee; other relatives and a host of friends.He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Lauren A. Ralph Roy Oden, 77, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Diversicare in Hutchinson, KS. 

Ralph was born December 23, 1943 in rural Sterling, KS, the son of John and Mable (Dyke) Oden. On September 15, 1977 he married Dixie Groves in Hutchinson, KS. Ralph attended Sterling High School. He worked for Dillons Bakery and was an oven operator and retired after 38 years. He was a member of Moose Lodge #982, First United Methodist Church of Sterling and the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union. Ralph had many hobbies and interests. He loved to sew plastic canvas and make canvas blocks for his great grandkids. He enjoyed doing word search puzzles, listening to audio books, feeding the stray cats and scratch off tickets. 

Ralph is survived by his wife, Dixie; daughters, Shelley Weishaar and Staci Eikleberry both of Hutchinson, KS; siblings, Donald Oden of Alden, KS, Allene Urich of Hutchinson, KS, Mike (Nancy) Oden of Hutchinson, KS, and Ronald (Deb) Oden of Lyons, KS; grandchildren, Austin (Miranda) Eikleberry, Nicole Tubbs, and Alex Weishaar; great grandchildren, Grayson Tubbs, MaKenna Eikleberry, Audrey Tubbs and Kynzlee Eikleberry.

Eugene Richard (Pat) Klaver, of Belmont, Kansas passed away peacefully on Friday July 2, 2021 at Kansas Medical Center, Andover, KS. He was 91 years old.

Pat was born on September 13, 1929 on the family farm north of Belmont, Kansas to Fred W. and Irene Madaline Miller Klaver. He was a Belmont High School graduate and attended Garden City Junior College for two years on a basketball scholarship. In 1948 he met the love of his life, Georgia Hamilton, at a dance in Harper, KS.  They were married October 22, 1950, in Anthony, Kansas.  They celebrated 70 years of marriage last October.  Together, they built a home on the family farm near Belmont where they raised their three children, wheat, cattle, and many dogs that became victim to Pat’s truck tires. Pat, a lifetime farmer, was also employed at Boeing for a number of years, finishing his career as a manager for Garvey Elevators for over 20 years, retiring in 1994.

When he wasn’t farming, Pat enjoyed life with his family and friends. As a young man he was known as a talented fast pitch softball pitcher. His other sources of enjoyment were taking summer fishing trips to Colorado with his family, attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, drinking coffee at the elevator, and teaching his grandchildren how to fish and how to cheat at card games. Pat was a member of the Norwich United Methodist Church. He was a 70-year member of the Kansas Freemasons, Norwich Lodge later transferred to Harper Lodge No. 206; as well also a member of the York Rite of Kansas, Chapter # 71; Kingman Commandery No. 34 Knights Templar; and Midian Shriners. Always one for a joke, Pat was loved by his community and known for his teasing nature. With a pocket full of Big Red and Juicy Fruit gum, Pat always greeted the community kids with a stick of gum and a smile.

Pat is preceded in death by his parents Fred W. and Madaline Klaver; brother Fred W. Jr (Hons); sister Betty Klaver Fieser and son-in-law Carl Durr.

He is survived by his loving wife Georgia Klaver of Belmont, KS; sister Alice Newcomb of Waldorf, MD; daughter Deborah Durr of Belmont, KS; son Bill (Donna) Klaver of Belmont, KS and son Michael (Angela) Klaver of Norwich, KS.

He is also survived by his grandchildren Matthew (Jacque) Durr of Eudora, KS; Nathan (Tara) Durr of Cheney, KS; Taylor (Amy) Durr of Belmont, KS; Megan (Josh) Titus of Lebanon, MO; Kelsey (Daniel) Delp of Goddard, KS; Emily (Clint) Drosselmeyer of Kingman, KS; Sam Klaver of Belmont, KS; and Mackenzie (Michael) O’Gorman of Denver, CO. As well as 13 great grandchildren with the 14th arriving in November and an abundance of family and friends.

There will be a public visitation 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6th at Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman, KS.

A funeral service for Pat will be held at 10am on Wednesday, July 7th at Norwich United Methodist Church. A memorial has been established with the Norwich United Methodist Church and the Norwich Fire Department.

Darlene Schrock, 88, died July 4, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.  She was born April 20, 1933, in Sterling, to Oscar Emery and Ova Catherine (Owens) Frye. 

Darlene worked at Lehr’s, before staying home with her children.  In 1979, she began working for Graber Furniture, making their draperies.  After Graber Furniture closed their drapery business, Darlene opened “Draperies by Darlene” which was located on Poplar Street in Hutchinson.  She eventually moved her drapery business to her Plevna home.  Darlene was a strong-willed lady, and enjoyed cooking, reading, playing board games and cards, and sewing for family.  Darlene treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On May 22, 1964, she married Billy Eugene Schrock, in Hutchinson.  He died August 5, 2019, after sharing almost 55 years of marriage.  They enjoyed living in their country home at Plevna for most all of their married life.

Darlene is survived by:  children, Barbara Jones (Dwane), Johnny Schrock, Tina Howell, and Wendy Batra (Jesh); sister, Sharan Bailey; brother, Brad Frye (Monica); seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; infant daughter, Patricia Lynn; daughter, Toni Trotter; grandson, Jeremy Ellis; brother, Robert Frye; and sister, Alba Frey.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.  The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time Friday.

Tracy’s life began on May 31, 1966, in Marion.  

He was the son of Lyndon and Neva (Kelsey) Hett.  Tracy was baptized at the Aulne Church in high school. He is a 1984 graduate of Marion High School.  Tracy was united in marriage to Geraldine Bresson on March 16, 1996, in Las Vegas.  He worked with his dad for 11 years at Aulne Grain prior to starting Trace of Copper in 1990.  Tracy loved creating unique artwork in his shop at Trace of Copper and was well known as a gifted artist.  He was a huge KU Jayhawk fan, an avid hunter and fisherman.  Tracy grew a bountiful garden every year, competing with his dad for the largest onion, as well as being a “chicken grower”.  

His loving family includes his wife of 25 years Geraldine of Marion, daughter Allison Hett of Marion; parents Lyndon and Neva Hett of Marion; siblings Travis Hett of Moundridge and Dusty (Misty) Hett of Marion; nieces and nephews Ashley (Steven) Honeycutt, Jeffrey Hett, Brittany Hett, and Koby Hett; great nieces and great nephews Aaron Honeycutt, Brooke Honeycutt and Julian Honeycutt.  Tracy passed away at his home on Thursday July 1, 2021.  

His family will gather with friends on Friday July 16th at 11 a.m. at the Shelter House on the East side of Marion County Lake (look for green tents) for his Celebration of Life led by Pastor Jeff Lee of the Aulne Church.
