Turon - Sandra Sue Toliver, 81, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 in Lincoln, California. She was born on June 26, 1939 in Sylvia, Kansas to Frank C. and Francis E. (Froman) Gill. On October 10, 1955 she married Michael Charles FitzGerald in Turon, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1988. She would marry John Toliver on December 24, 1982 in Fremont, California. He preceded her in death on November 12, 2007.

Sue was a very active member of Fremont Singles Square Dance Club and enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by her children, Colonel Michael Alan (Robin) FitzGerald, U.S. Army (Retired) of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Ronald Charles FitzGerald of Fremont, California, Susan Gail (Marvin) (FitzGerald) Mattie of Fremont, California and Robert Mark (Alison) FitzGerald of Cairns, Australia; 10 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Michael and John; brother, Stanley Gill; sister, Sharon Gill; and grandson, Scott Yoshiro FitzGerald.

She was born on November 25, 1948 in Grundy County, Missouri to Howard Cecil and Pauline (Strine) Lovell. Judy married Donald Swaney on June 24, 2000 at Macksville Free Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on July 30, 2006.

Judy graduated from Pratt High School in 1966. She was a case worker for Social and Rehabilitation Services. She was a member of Pratt Free Methodist Church and transferred to Macksville Free Methodist Church. She was a former Girl Scout and Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed painting, Elvis and the color purple.

She is survived by her daughter, Angela (Jon) Grossman of Nevada, Texas; grandchildren, Michael Grossman, Suszan Grossman, Matthew Grossman, Johanna Grossman; brothers, Kenneth Eugene Lovell of Pratt and Bobby Dean (Vickie) Lovell of Denver, Colorado.

Lawrence ‘Larry’ Earl Legge, passed away July 9, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita.  He was born September 21, 1955, in Chanute, to Lawrence William and Ruth Ann (Johnson) Legge.

Larry served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division from 1972-1975.  He worked as a welder at Agco Corporation, Hesston, retiring with many years of service.  Larry was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed riding his Harley, watching NASCAR and football, and spending time with his family and friends.  He was fond of his guns and a member of the National Rifle Association.

Larry is survived by: daughter, Jessica (Dominic Vargas) Legge of Wichita; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Kellerman of Florida; close friends, Wes and Lea Ann Mullins of Hutchinson; and Jessica’s mother, Angel Leamon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Chaplain Highside Hall officiating. Ronald “Stony” L. Parks left this earth contrary to how he lived it, quietly and peacefully in his sleep on July 11, 2021. But in typical Stony fashion he was surrounded by loved ones in his home in Woodward OK.

Mercifully, they broke the mold after Ronald was born to Ronald K. Parks and the late Eleanor Joan (Gallaugher) on October 2, 1963 in Medicine Lodge, KS. Although he was born Ronald Parks, most simply knew him as “Stony”. A nickname given to him during early childhood by his older brother after seeing the television series Stoney Burke; needless to say, the name stuck.

After graduating from Ellinwood High School in 1982, Stony spent most of his life following in his family’s footsteps, working in the oilfield. No one could tell Stony anything, finally relenting to that fact, he started his own trucking business in 2014; an accomplishment that was a great source of pride for him.

His only greater source of pride was his family. Stony cherished his two sons, Chance and Caleb and no one around him was ever unaware of that fact. If you were around Stony you could expect to be in a selfie or three, but he perhaps photographed no one more than the pride and absolute joy of his life: his two grandchildren; Andria and Kenneth. Stony was always the life of the party and a people person in its truest form. In his later years, Stony enjoyed traveling to see friends and relatives, always bringing with him a good time and some good or not-so-good stories. When he cared for you it was deep and no amount of words could take the place of the energy and warmth he brought with him. Stony enjoyed leather-working and was a collector of rare coins and knives. Stony was also a fan of the KU Jayhawks and NASCAR, especially the Earnhardt years. There was no better driver in the world to him than Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Stony was also vain. You could always find him in his signature graphic tee and unbuttoned plaid shirt, paired with the latest style of sneakers. And his hair. He never had a single hair out of place, always making sure he looked his best.

Always the lady’s man, in death, Stony is reunited with the two women who shaped him most, his mother Joan and his older sister Julie. Stony is also preceded in death by his nephew Brent.

In addition to his two sons, Stony is survived by his father, Ronald, his namesake and avid supporter throughout the years and his older brother, Kenneth Parks, a man he deeply admired and respected more than anyone.

He leaves behind his two grandchildren and the closest thing he had to a daughter, his daughter-in-law Chelsey Parks. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Tonya Parks, whose food he usually liked.

In addition to other numerous family members, close friends, and countless impressions he left on all those he met, he also leaves behind a niece and two nephews. He was the self-proclaimed protector of his niece Whitney, he shared his love for a good pair of shoes with his nephew Tyler, and was a fan of late nights watching television and eating push-pops with his other nephew Cole.

He worked for Halliburton for 25 years. He was a member of El Dorado Elks Lodge #1407 and American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, camping, lake time, family time and drinking beer. Ray Gene Zang |1942-2021|

Dr. Marvin Joseph Parrish – clinical psychologist, college professor, jokester, and Kenny Rogers doppelganger – has left the building.

Marvin was born on January 26, 1942, in Wichita, Kansas. After 79 years of wonderful living, making the best of his final years with Parkinson’s Disease, Marvin passed away on July 9, 2021 in Newton, Kansas. He was surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

Marvin Parrish was a farm boy, a dog lover, a class clown, and an exemplary student. He served as Student Body President of Oklahoma Christian College, where he earned a bachelor’s in English in 1964 and pranked his dorm mates by short-sheeting their beds. Marvin also earned degrees in Philosophy and Religion and Psychology from Wichita State and Washington University in St. Louis. He was the first intern to pursue clinical neuropsychology at the University of Indiana, where it was developed. Dr. Parrish had a long career as a therapist, holding rare specialties in hypnosis. He was the owner and operator of the McPherson and Newton Psychological Service Centers. After serving on-staff at several other mental health institutions, he retired in 2012. White-bearded Marvin also enjoyed a long “acting career,” pretending to be Santa Claus for the many children who saw him in the street and suspected he was Kris Kringle incognito.

Marvin treasured his wife of 52 years, Kathryn Salmon Parrish. He took every opportunity to proclaim she was the most beautiful woman in the world. Marvin’s many hobbies included watching Kansas college basketball teams, gardening and planting trees, playing card games Rook and Skip-Bo, eating Super Supreme pizza, drinking milkshakes and Pepsi, listening to the Oak Ridge Boys, teasing everyone he met, and driving his electric orange Porsche 914 convertible. He put his beautiful baritone voice to use in barbershop quartets, and sang to his older daughter, Angela, who is now a songwriter and music producer. 

Marvin’s love of justice and equity lives on in the career of his younger daughter, Abbey, who is a paralegal for Legal Aid. Marvin had to wait 44 years to become a father, and he cherished his girls every day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Viola, and infant sister Janet Fern. Dr. Marvin Joseph Parrish – clinical psychologist, college professor, jokester, and Kenny Rogers doppelganger – has left the building.Marvin was born on January 26, 1942, in Wichita, Kansas. After 79 years of wonderful living, making the best of his final years with Parkinson’s Disease, Marvin passed away on July 9, 2021 in Newton, Kansas. He was surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.Marvin Parrish was a farm boy, a dog lover, a class clown, and an exemplary student. He served as Student Body President of Oklahoma Christian College, where he earned a bachelor’s in English in 1964 and pranked his dorm mates by short-sheeting their beds. Marvin also earned degrees in Philosophy and Religion and Psychology from Wichita State and Washington University in St. Louis. He was the first intern to pursue clinical neuropsychology at the University of Indiana, where it was developed. Dr. Parrish had a long career as a therapist, holding rare specialties in hypnosis. He was the owner and operator of the McPherson and Newton Psychological Service Centers. After serving on-staff at several other mental health institutions, he retired in 2012. White-bearded Marvin also enjoyed a long “acting career,” pretending to be Santa Claus for the many children who saw him in the street and suspected he was Kris Kringle incognito.Marvin treasured his wife of 52 years, Kathryn Salmon Parrish. He took every opportunity to proclaim she was the most beautiful woman in the world. Marvin’s many hobbies included watching Kansas college basketball teams, gardening and planting trees, playing card games Rook and Skip-Bo, eating Super Supreme pizza, drinking milkshakes and Pepsi, listening to the Oak Ridge Boys, teasing everyone he met, and driving his electric orange Porsche 914 convertible. He put his beautiful baritone voice to use in barbershop quartets, and sang to his older daughter, Angela, who is now a songwriter and music producer. Marvin’s love of justice and equity lives on in the career of his younger daughter, Abbey, who is a paralegal for Legal Aid. Miner Seymour, an affable designer/builder and family man known for his sense of joyful creativity, died on July 9, 2021 in Newton, Kansas after six years of progressive dementia.  He was 72. After meeting Valetta Goering over a pair of broken eyeglasses in a medical clinic in Columbus, Miner followed her to the Pacific Northwest where they married, and he studied architecture.  In 1985, they returned to Valetta’s hometown of Moundridge, Kansas, where he built their family home and welcomed their only child, Kate. Over the years, he put his design and construction skills to use with a focus on environmentally sustainable home design. He also helped build homes for Mennonite Disaster Service and Habitat for Humanity.

The essence of Miner was his cheerful imagination.  He remained playful throughout his adult life and delighted in helping others find similar joy.  At one point, he created a sand beach at the edge of the family apple orchard for nights around the bonfire and soaks in the stock tank “swimming pool” with friends.

Miner’s creative drive led him to study art and poetry as an adult at Bethel College, graduating with a bachelors degree in 1990. In 1992, Miner started a concert series called “Old Settlers Inn” which attracted singer-songwriters from all over the country performing sold-out shows for 17 years. Old Settlers Inn concerts are still aired on KMUW’s New Settlers Radio Hour.

Miner’s fondest memories centered around his family’s 115-year-old cottage on Lake Michigan where he spent every summer of his life enjoying water sports, building sand castles and skipping rocks with Kate and other children, and enjoying sunsets over the lake.

Miner was preceded in death by his parents along with his only two siblings, Emily Berand and Nancy Billington, and his brother-in-law, Howard Knight. Survivors include his wife, Valetta, daughter, Kate Seymour, son-in-law, Todd Lawrence, granddaughter, Ruth Seymour, sister-in-law, Wanda Knight, brother-in-law, John Berend, and seven nieces and nephews.  

A celebration of life is planned for July 28 at Bethel College Mennonite Church at 10:00 AM to honor Miner, who never let go of the thread.  Masks will be required at the service.

Roger Gilbert Black, 87, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away, Thursday, January 21st, 2021, with his wife Rosalie at his side, in the Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson. Roger was a loving and beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Roger was born in Melrose, New Mexico, on July 11, 1933, the son of Eva (West) and Roger Marvin Black. He was proud of his New Mexico heritage and often talked about his grandfathers who had homesteaded in the New Mexico territory before it became a state in 1912.

After graduating from Albuquerque High School in 1953, he was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1954, to support the Korean Conflict. Roger received a national Secret security clearance, and he served as a driver for officers who were leading the development of the Atlas Missile Sites surrounding Washington, DC.. He served in the active Army until 1956, and continued in the Army Reserve through 1961, when he was Honorably Discharged, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

In 1957, Roger moved to Alamogordo, NM, near the Holloman Air Force Base. He used his natural proficiency in mechanical engineering and metal working at Holloman; employed by private government contractors, as a Lead Mechanical Technician on NASA, Air Force, and General Motors safety research projects. His work included development of seat, lap, and shoulder belts, and air bags for passenger cars, aircraft, and spacecraft. Many of these became the safety standards used today.

Roger Gilbert Black was united in marriage with Rosalie Lowe-Snyder on November 26, 1969, in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The couple, and her two daughters, established their first home together in Alamogordo. In 1971, Roger and family moved to Slidell, LA where Roger took a role with the US Civil Service and the US Navy to build a testing facility to conduct the testing of different restraint systems that are currently used in Naval aircraft. In 1996, after 25 years, Roger and Rosalie retired to a beautiful mountain home in northwest New Mexico and enjoyed many years exploring the trails, parks, and mountains of the Southwest.

Roger was a avid golfer, winning the City Championship in Alamogordo, one year; and first place, twice in the City Championship Second Flight in Slidell. Roger traded golfing in the sand of New Mexico for fishing in the bayous of Louisiana, while avoiding the alligators. Over the years, he used his skills in carpentry to build many beautiful pieces of wood furniture for the family.

Roger was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Slidell, LA where he served as Head Usher for 23 years. He has been a member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren for the past twelve years. With other members and college students he has participated in mission projects and trips using his mechanical and carpentry skills to build and rebuild homes for families in need.

Roger is survived by his loving, devoted wife of over 51 years, Rosalie. of McPherson, KS; his children, Karen Duprey, of Las Cruces, NM; Diane McGee, husband James, of Hazlet, TX; his step-children, Debra Farrelly, husband James. of Indianapolis, IN; and Susan Throckmorton, husband Scott, of Albuquerque, NM.; his grandchildren, Dawn Bridges (Shane); Alexis Duprey; Robert Farrelly (Kelly); John Farrelly (Monica); Amanda Welles (Sam); Paige Throckmorton (Alexandria); and his great grandchildren, Rosalie and Madelyn Farrelly; Aurora Farrelly; and Matthew Welles.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cedars Wellness Center with Reverend Chris Whitaker officiating.

Gary Brewer passed peacefully at his Cunningham home which was known by many as “the duck shack” on July 4, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents Billy Gene and Patricia Ann Brewer. He is survived by his two daughters Kaley Brewer and Melissa Brewer, and two granddaughters Brynlee Brewer and Kinsey Brewer. Gary is also survived by his two sisters Jennifer Haines (David) and Susan Evans (Mike). Gary was a retired owner/operator of BEAR automotive, and Doggy Daycare.

As a young man, Gary graduated from North High School (’75) and went on to pursue baseball at Seward County Junior College. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, KU Jayhawks, and the Kansas City Chiefs.

He was a lover of the great outdoors and would hunt and fish at every opportunity he had. He was known for his hospitality and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. Gary never knew a stranger, was quick witted, and had a unique sense of humor. His tell you like it is attitude will never be forgotten. Gary loved to entertain, brought life to the party, and was also known for his unmatched cooking skills. Riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle alongside some of his best friends was one of his favorite things to do. Gary was also a proud pet owner of his 3 dogs Harley, Rocco, and Riley. All who knew Gary knew that he loved to host a party so please come join us one last time and have a drink for the old man. Donna Mae Lackey, 93, died July 10, 2021, at Pleasant Hills, Hutchinson.  She was born May 22, 1928, in McPherson County, to Frank and Ella (Stecher) Wittorff.

Donna Mae attended Wolf Creek Grade School and graduated from Inman Rural High School in 1946.  She grew up on a farm, and continued living the farm life after she was married.  Donna Mae loved farming, and helping her husband, Milton, milk cows and raise sheep, hogs, and chickens.   She also enjoyed cooking for her family (she was known for her homemade angel food cakes), and sewing.  Donna Mae lived on the farm until 2013, when she moved to Pleasant View Retirement Community, Inman. 

On October 15, 1946, Donna Mae married a neighbor boy, who was also a sailor; Milton K. Lackey, in Inman. He died November 2, 1997, after they shared over 51 years of marriage living on their family farm.

Donna Mae is survived by:  children, Connie Neufeld (Fred) of Inman, Harlan Lackey, Betty Van Osdol, both of Hutchinson, Karen Fast (Dave) of Waxahachie, TX, Marsha Capps (Dale) of Inman, and Pamela Branham (David) of Kansas City, MO; 13 grandchildren, Jennafer, Elizabeth, Dennis, Sarah, Clinton, Jebadiah, Eric, Andy, Terrence, Lonnie, Jesse, Nathan, and Rachel; and 22-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Melvin “Mike” Wittorff.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2021, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Donna Mae Lackey |1928-2021|

Ruth Marilyn Schmidt was born on August 16, 1926 in Moundridge, Kansas to Philip and Rose Wedel.  At the age of 10, her family relocated to Aberdeen, Idaho where her father, Philip Wedel, became the pastor of the Aberdeen Mennonite Church for 8 years.  She often reminisced fondly about the years spent in Idaho.  Ruth graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1944.  After graduation, Ruth attended Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas for one year, receiving her degree to teach.  She then taught 1st through 8th grade at the Heimbaugh School near Goessel, Kansas the following year.

Ruth was married to Orlando Earl Schmidt on September 11, 1946.  She and Orlando celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996 and shared 53 wonderful years.   Orlando and Ruth established their home and farm northeast of Moundridge where they lived until his passing in 1999.  After this, Ruth moved to town in Moundridge until 2016, when she relocated to Oxford Grand Assisted Living in northwest Wichita until her passing.  Orlando and Ruth had four children:  Dwayne, Elaine, Carol, and James.  Ruth was a supportive and loving wife and mother who gave up a teaching career to be home for her family.  She loved to attend the school musical programs in which all her children participated as well as watch her sons play football and basketball.  She sewed many of the girls’ clothes and spent a great deal of time gardening, cooking and baking for the family.  She was active in the West Zion Christian Homemakers and loved to play the piano and read.

Ruth’s faith was greatly tested over her 94 years through the cancer of her father, Philip Wedel, husband Orlando and son James, as well as her own cancer from 1996 to 1998.  Yet through all of these difficult times, she stayed faithful to her Lord and Savior.  Her motto became, “one day at a time”, as she struggled with her health issues, a decline in hearing and walking, and being isolated from family and friends through the COVID-19 health crisis.  She tried her best to be self-reliant, keeping her mind sharp by doing word searches and reading.  Her children often remarked how she knew her expenses down to the penny when she was managing her own finances.  She never gave up trying to continue to walk even though one knee was failing her.  She was finally free of her pain when she passed into eternal life on July 11, 2021 at the age of 94, a month short of her 95th birthday.

Preceding Ruth in death were her parents, Philip and Rose Wedel, her older sister Ellen Friesen and brother-in-law, Wilmer Friesen and her youngest son, Jim Schmidt.  Surviving her are her son Dwayne Schmidt (DeAnne) of Wichita, Kansas, daughter Elaine Hofman (Don) of Lincoln, Nebraska, daughter Carol Ward (Marty) of Moundridge, daughter-in-law Kari Schmidt of Nashville, her grandchildren,  Ashley Janzen (Jesse), Kyle Schmidt, Krista Wiebe (Josh), Christine Widman (Andy), Lindsey Hanson (Brent), Jared Ward(Christy), Ryan Ward (Shelby), Lauren Schmidt, Michael Schmidt and Taylor Schmidt and great grandchildren, Jordy, Jace, Lainey, Paisley, Reese, Evan, Evelyn, Micah, Eliya, Bronx, Hudson, one brother, Lee Wedel (Alda) of Hesston, one sister, Lois Regehr (Dean) of rural Inman, sister-in-law, Laura Friesen of North Newton, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leroy and Marcella Woelk of Goessel.   Her family and friends will greatly miss her beautiful smile and sweet and kind nature.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 16, 2021 at West Zion Cemetery, Moundridge, with a memorial service to follow at 2:30 p.m., at West Zion Mennonite Church. Ruth Marilyn Schmidt was born on August 16, 1926 in Moundridge, Kansas to Philip and Rose Wedel. At the age of 10, her family relocated to Aberdeen, Idaho where her father, Philip Wedel, became the pastor of the Aberdeen Mennonite Church for 8 years. She often reminisced fondly about the years spent in Idaho. Ruth graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1944. After graduation, Ruth attended Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas for one year, receiving her degree to teach. She then taught 1st through 8th grade at the Heimbaugh School near Goessel, Kansas the following year.Ruth was married to Orlando Earl Schmidt on September 11, 1946. She and Orlando celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996 and shared 53 wonderful years. Orlando and Ruth established their home and farm northeast of Moundridge where they lived until his passing in 1999. After this, Ruth moved to town in Moundridge until 2016, when she relocated to Oxford Grand Assisted Living in northwest Wichita until her passing. Orlando and Ruth had four children: Dwayne, Elaine, Carol, and James. Ruth was a supportive and loving wife and mother who gave up a teaching career to be home for her family. She loved to attend the school musical programs in which all her children participated as well as watch her sons play football and basketball. She sewed many of the girls’ clothes and spent a great deal of time gardening, cooking and baking for the family. She was active in the West Zion Christian Homemakers and loved to play the piano and read.Ruth’s faith was greatly tested over her 94 years through the cancer of her father, Philip Wedel, husband Orlando and son James, as well as her own cancer from 1996 to 1998. Yet through all of these difficult times, she stayed faithful to her Lord and Savior. Norita Larson, 96, passed away on July 10, 2021, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community. She was born September 26, 1924, Southwest of Walnut, KS on the family farm to Fred and Nellie (Fitzpatrick) Mullin. She graduated from Walnut High School.

She belonged to Holy Cross Catholic Church, St. Veronicas’ Circle and Holy Cross Alter Society. On April 19, 1948, she married Alvin Larson in Dodge City, KS.

Survivors are two daughters, Karen Puskas (John) of Conifer, CO, and Carol Byington (Dart) of Elizabeth, CO, three granddaughters, Susan Puskas Lawson, Kari Puskas Johnson, and Sarah Byington Murrell. She has one surviving sister, Helen Lagazzino of Portland, OR.

She was preceded in death by her husband Al, her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Parish Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021, and Mass of Christian Burial will follow the rosary at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hutchinson, KS, with Father Aaron Spexarth presiding. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson, KS.

Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Ellen (Crotts) Kee, 86, passed away July 12, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born February 10, 1935, at Grace Hospital, Hutchinson, to Russell Lawrence and Elizabeth (Burke) Crotts.

Betty worked various office positions for 20 years and retired from Civil Service, after working 25 years for the United States Department of Air Force and United States Department of Agriculture.&nbsp; She was a longtime resident of Hutchinson, member of the Partridge Community Church, Partridge, and attended New Covenant Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson.

On November 18, 1956, Betty married Eanos Earl Kee.&nbsp; They shared over 57 years of marriage, prior to his death in 2013.

She is survived by:&nbsp; sister, Malinda Hovious; stepsons, Edwin (Diane) Kee of Cumming, GA, and Michael (Kathy) Kee of Florida; step-grandsons, Chad (Hillary) and Michael, Jr; step-granddaughter, Cassandra; and step-great-granddaughters, Isabella and Olivia.

Betty was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; husband; and three brothers.

Evelyn Emma Ogle, 87, of Hutchinson, died July 9, 2021, at her home. She was born December 28, 1933, on the family farm near Basil, to C.P. and Anna (Albrecht) Loewen.

Evelyn graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1951. She worked as a sales clerk at JC Penney for a short while before pausing her work career to raise her family. Evelyn then worked at 1st Church of God as secretary for many years, where she attended, led, and served from age 4-80. The heritage of this church was important to her and she served many years with children, youth, choir, administrative and women’s ministries. Evelyn loved singing in various quartets with her husband. In later years they attended Union Valley Bible Church, where she loved others and was loved in return.

Evelyn was an artist, a mother, a mentor, a wonderful alto, an organizer, an advocate, a mom, a sweetheart, and will always be a daughter of the Most High God.

On October 10, 1952, she married Ronald Edwin Ogle at 1st Church of God, Hutchinson. They shared 70 years of marriage. He survives.

Jennifer Walton, 50, of Hutchinson, died July 8, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born September 27, 1970, in Louisville, KY, to Melvin J. and Mary K. (Buehler) Walton.

Jennifer graduated from Buhler High School in 1991. She loved Jesus, her family, and animals. Jennifer was very active in TECH’s Adult Life Skills program, where she was a prolific painter and participated in Faces of Faith, a mime group. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

As an adult, Jennifer worked at the Ramada, Golden Plains Nursing Home, and Pizza Ranch.

Jennifer is survived by: her parents, Melvin and Mary Walton; siblings, Eric and Elizabeth Walton, Amy and Matt Bretz; nephews, Marshall and Harrison Walton; nieces, Lauren and Hannah Bretz, all of Hutchinson; and numerous extended family members.

Jennifer Walton |1970-2021|

Willis’ life began on February 11, 1941, in the Hillsboro Hospital.  He was the son of Curtis R. and Winifred (Nansen) Peterson.  Willis was in the first graduating class of Centre High School (1959). He played football and was in the band.  He continued his education at Kansas State University where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity (Alpha Iota Chapter) and Army ROTC. Willis graduated in 1964 with a degree in Milling Technology.  Willis operated the Cargill Mill in Wichita for 15 plus years and previously, he worked in the oil fields.  Farming his land was his true calling and during his working life he commuted 80 miles each way nearly every day to be able to live on his farm. After retiring in 2004 from Cargill Mill he continued to farm in Morris and Marion County. He was a member Hebron Lutheran Church in Burdick and also attended Aulne Church. Willis enjoyed collecting agricultural antiques.  He was united in marriage to the former Karyn “Sue” Glenn on July 3, 2004, at Marion County Lake.  

His loving family includes his wife Sue of Marion, children Daine (Kat) Peterson of Hillsboro, Curtis (Marcy) Peterson of Holcomb, and Troy (Chris) Peterson of Lincolnville; grandchildren Amanda, Dakota, Cheyenne, Avery, Ty, Jon, Sydnee, Jakob, Nick, Emilee, Tucker, Michael, Sabrina, Brandon, Taylor, Hannah and Grace; several great grandchildren; his twin brother Warren Peterson of Sedona, AZ and niece and nephew Sam and Katie. Willis will also be missed by his beloved fur babies Zoey, Suzy and Pia.  Willis was preceded in death by his beloved infant son, David Joel and his faithful dog Bobby.

Wanda Louise (Herzet) Carr passed away on Thursday July 8, 2021 at the age of 97. She was born on October 18, 1923 in rural Marion County.  Wanda was the daughter of Fred A. and Dixie Louise (Fox) Herzet. She grew up on a farm with her 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She attended a country school and graduated from Marion High School in 1940. As a teenager, Wanda worked at the Elgin Hotel in the housekeeping department.

August 3, 1940, Wanda was united in marriage to Max E. Carr.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  Wanda enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, embroidery and sewing. In her later years she enjoyed painting, reading, keeping track of her family on Facebook with her tablet and working jigsaw puzzles. Taking care of her family was her greatest joy.  Wanda was a member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Sew Much Love sewing club, and adult Sunday school classes. She assisted with prom, funeral, and other various church dinners.  She loved serving in the kitchen and was always asked to “make her gravy” for the dinners.

Wanda and her husband’s greatest joy was their family which includes sons: William A. (Rosalie) of Jetmore, Thomas E. (Marsha) of Wichita, Max E. (Donna) of Andover, James R. (Kathy) of Hillsboro, David A. (Nina) of Marion, Patrick L. (Ann) of Marion, Michael W. (Dawn) of Marion and daughters: Jeanne L., deceased (Robert, deceased), Susan K. Linda Louise (Ayers) Foster, 65, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021 after a long battle of COPD and lung cancer. 

Linda was born on September 27, 1955 to William Carson and Thelma Rose  Ayres in Arkansas. As a child, she excelled in many sports, especially basketball. After graduating from Hill City, Kansas High School in 1973 she was awarded a basketball scholarship to Colby Community College. She was an excellent cook and pursued that as her lifetime career. She took several classes and became a certified baker. Linda was known to make the best homemade cinnamon rolls around. Linda served as a baker and cook at school and at McPherson Hospital where she retired 18 months ago. Linda loved to bake her famous cinnamon rolls, to play bingo, thoroughly enjoyed scratching lottery tickets for winners, enjoyed being with people, and being at her children and grandchildren’s sporting events which she seldom missed. She was also a big KU fan. Her kindness to others will always be remembered. 

She is preceded in death by her father; three sisters, Lucille, Shirley, Brenda; and four brothers, Larry, Jerry, Alvin, and Kenny Ayers. She is survived by her mother, Thelma Ayers; brother and his wife, Kim and Lana Ayers; four sons, Brian Billinger of Newton, Bradley Billinger of Canton, Kansas, Brent Billinger of Canton, Kansas, Christopher Billinger of Herington, Kansas; two daughters, Brandy Gutierrez of Great Bend, Kansas and Krystal Billinger of McPherson, Kansas; 11 grandchildren.

Wichita - David M. Smith, 83, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021 in Wichita. He was born on August 18, 1937 in Pratt to Frank G. and Helen M. (Goyen) Smith. David married Barbara (Ferris) Smith in 1961. She preceded him in death in 2002. David then married Judy (Brown-Keene) Smith on June 23, 2006. She survives.

David graduated from Pratt High School in 1955. He was a member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, he was a jack of all trades and master of several, he could fix anything but you "might" have extra parts left over and could tell you the weather for anywhere.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Catherine (Pete) Garrison of Wichita, Andrew Smith of Pratt, Daniel (Kathryn) Smith of Columbia, Missouri, George (Tracy) Keene of Wichita, Traci (Andy) Atzenweiler-Barney of Olathe, Mark (Susan) Keene of Wichita and Todd (Angie) Keene of Springfield, Missouri; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many animals that he loved.

David is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; sister, Frances Kentling; and an infant son, Thomas Smith.

Vicki A. Giddings, 73, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 8, 2021, surrounded by her family at Brookdale-McPherson. She was a Registered Nurse and worked for the McPherson Hospital and in the offices of Dr. C.C. Cunnick and Dr. William Collier.

Vicki was born on January 27, 1948, in Beloit, KS, the daughter of William “Bill” H. and Colleen J. (Coover) Hollaway. On June 8, 1969, Vicki was united in marriage to Bradley K. Giddings. This union was blessed with three children, Derric, Brandon, and Kamie. Brad preceded Vicki in death on February 29, 2016.

Survivors include: two sons, Derric Giddings of Lebanon, OR and Brandon Giddings (Cari) of McPherson, KS; a daughter, Kamie Ward (Brad) of McPherson, KS; two siblings, Van Hollaway (Christie) of Nashville, TN and Frank Hollaway (Brenda) of Beloit, KS; and eight grandchildren, Sierra &amp; Alex Giddings, Caleb, Halle, &amp; Holli Giddings, and Macyn, Ryker, &amp; Colby Ward.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Vince Hollaway.

Ferril Lee Heling, 92, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 4:15 p.m., Wednesday, July 7th, 2021 while in the company of family members, at Veterans Administration Medical Center Wichita.

Ferril was born in Dodge City, Kansas on October 1, 1928, a son of Waunetta I. (Jenkins) and Forrest F. Heling.

Ferril attended the Pratt grade schools and graduated from Pratt High School, Pratt, Kansas.

He was a member of First Christian Church Pratt, KS.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a SSG in WW II. and then also served in the U.S. Air Force as a SSG in the Korean War.

Ferril Lee Heling was united in marriage to Dixie Lou Davies on September 11,1973 at Pratt, Kansas. Dixie died on March 7, 1995.

Ferril began working for Rock Island Railroad in 1945 as a fireman. He retired in 1987 as Locomotive Engineer for Southern Pacific.

Ferril was a member of Masonic Lodge #72, McPherson; Salina Scottish Rite; IsIs Temple Shrine, Salina; American Legion Post 24, and Elk's Lodge B.P.O.E. #502, both of McPherson. Ferril enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing, golfing, flying his planes, water and snow skiing, and his 5 o'clock tottie.

Ferril is survived by his daughters, Debra Johnson, of Pratt, Kansas and Janet Heling, of Pratt, Kansas; his four grandchildren, Kimberly Seidel, Temple Briscoe, Amber Sprague, and Todd Startzman; his 10 great-grandchildren, Brittany Rector, Gunner DeClue, Bailey DeClue, Riley Howe, Shawna Baker, Brandi Briscoe, Kami Mortenson, Kelsi Constable, Jordan Sprague, and Cameron Startzman; his four great-great-grandchildren, Charlee Rector, James Baker, Allison Baker, and Jason Colon-Vega; other relatives and a host of friends.

Military honors will be presented by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and with Mark Casebeer playing taps.

Ferril Lee Heling |1928-2021|

Earldean “Dean” Hamilton, 95 years young, a resident of&nbsp; Sylvia for the past 34 years, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 7, 2021. She was born August 21, 1925, in Stafford County, to Earl J. and Mildred (Fuson) Richardson.&nbsp; As a young girl, Dean lived and attended schools in Stafford County.

On June 9, 1943, Dean married Jack L. Hamilton in Hutchinson. &nbsp;They shared over 55 years of marriage before his death on May 17, 1999.&nbsp; Dean and Jack lived 56 years in Reno County on the “2H Ranch”. Dean was bookkeeper for the ranch, a farm wife, and volunteered wherever she was needed.&nbsp; She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene, Sylvia.

Dean is survived by: daughter, Judy Young of Sylvia; grandchildren, Staci Keeler and husband James, Stephanie Pierce-Little and husband Steve, all of Hutchinson, Cole Young and wife Lisa of Frisco, TX, Troy Young and wife Hannah of Turon; 10 great-grandchildren, Jake and Ali Pierce, Madison and Mason Little, Brandon Keeler and wife Audrey, Kassidy Keeler, Cinch Young, and Lily, Cate and Anna Young.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Monday, July 12, 2021, at Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene, 406 S. Shepherd, Sylvia, with Pastor James Davis presiding. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp; The family will greet friends Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Inurnment will be in the Sylvia Cemetery at a later date.

Earldean “Dean” Hamilton, 95 years young, a resident of&nbsp; Sylvia for the past 34 years, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 7, 2021. She was born August 21, 1925, in Stafford County, to Earl J. and Mildred (Fuson) Richardson.&nbsp; As a young girl, Dean lived and attended schools in Stafford County.On June 9, 1943, Dean married Jack L. Hamilton in Hutchinson. &nbsp;They shared over 55 years of marriage before his death on May 17, 1999.&nbsp; Dean and Jack lived 56 years in Reno County on the “2H Ranch”. Dean was bookkeeper for the ranch, a farm wife, and volunteered wherever she was needed.&nbsp; She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene, Sylvia.Dean is survived by: daughter, Judy Young of Sylvia; grandchildren, Staci Keeler and husband James, Stephanie Pierce-Little and husband Steve, all of Hutchinson, Cole Young and wife Lisa of Frisco, TX, Troy Young and wife Hannah of Turon; 10 great-grandchildren, Jake and Ali Pierce, Madison and Mason Little, Brandon Keeler and wife Audrey, Kassidy Keeler, Cinch Young, and Lily, Cate and Anna Young.Dean was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Edd E.; and siblings, Helen Berry and Wade D. Earldean “Dean” Hamilton |1925-2021|

Earl Polk, 76, died suddenly Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the Farmer’s Market.  He was born May 6, 1945, in Hutchinson, to Calvin Arnold and Earline Estell (Stoughton) Polk. 

During his childhood, Earl lived at Castleton and helped his grandfather, Earl Stoughton at Riverbanks Orchard.  In 1963, he graduated from Pretty Prairie High School.  Earl then attended Hutchinson Community College, and graduated from Kansas State University with a Degree in Horticulture.  Following Kansas State, he served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969.  After returning to Reno County, Earl worked seven years for his grandfather at Riverbanks Orchard, spending three years operating it.  In 1977, Earl bought a market in Medora, “Polk’s Farm Market”.  For over 44 years, and even at the time of his death, Earl was still selling fruits and vegetables at Polk’s Farm Market and the Farmer’s Market. Raising and selling fruits and vegetables, especially peaches and pumpkins, were Earl’s passion.  In addition, in 1985, he helped found the Reno County Producers Market, and was still an active member.

In 1963, Earl met the love of his life, Pam Greenfield while working at Riverbanks Orchard.    On December 31, 1965, they were married in Hutchinson, sharing over 55 years of marriage. In 1981, they were blessed with a daughter, Sparkle Strawberry Greenfield Polk.  Earl and Pam were a team, working alongside each other, with their daughter and her family when it came to running Polk’s Farm Market.   

Earl is survived by:  wife, Pam; daughter, Sparkle Faidley (Luke); grandchildren, Malachie Lehmann (fiancée Ali Roberts) and Sophia Faidley; nephews, J. J. Polk (Amanda) and Jeff Polk (Jacy); brother-in-law, John Murphy (Micki); uncle, Larry Black; brother-in-law, Billy Greenfield (Ruthann); and a host of customers, who were more like family.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; sister, Debbie Polk Murphy; and brother, Jerry Polk.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with John Murphy officiating. Cremation will follow the service.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, with the family present Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
