Robert G. “Bob” Schrag, 75, died November 4, 2021, surrounded by his family, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; He was born April 19, 1946, in Halstead, to Paul Andrew and Alvina Bertha (Krehbiel) Schrag.

Bob graduated from Burrton High School.&nbsp; He worked for Cessna for 10 years, before opening his own business, Shooters Supply &amp; Tackle, which he owned for 36 years.&nbsp; Bob, or better known as “Easy Bob” or “Shooter Bob”, treasured the many friendships he gained with customers from all over the United States.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed singing and sang for over 200 wedding and funerals. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on the farm with various jobs to help the family. &nbsp;He also did many personal auctions, plus volunteering as an auctioneer for various organizations.&nbsp;&nbsp; Bob was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.

On August 2, 1968, he married Mary Ann Ricker, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ellinwood.

Bob is survived by:&nbsp; his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann of Hutchinson; son, Scott Schrag (Holly) of Halstead; daughter, Paula Schrag of El Dorado; grandchildren, Katie Schrag, Bobby Schrag, Jarett Legleiter, and Austin Barnhart; sister, Marlene Barton of Hutchinson; brothers-in-law, Clifford Dick of Hutchinson and Robert Nestler of Topeka; sisters-in-law, Juanita Schrag of Newton and Marilyn Schrag of Burrton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob is also survived by his faithful four-legged companion, Hannah.&nbsp; Hannah went everywhere in the pickup with Bob, and they would even sit in the driveway and listen to ballgames together.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his parents; son, Marcus Todd Schrag; brothers, Harold, Willard, LaVern, Merle, and Paul Schrag, Jr.; sister, Joan Dick; infant sister; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 8, 2021, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 140 E. 30th, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Carey officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.&nbsp; Friends may call from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 12:00 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp; The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Vernon F. Christensen, 97, passed away Friday, November 5, 2021 at Hospice House in Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born March 9, 1924 in Osmond, Nebraska, the son of Raymond and Corinne (Welch) Christensen.

He worked road construction for Apax – Shears division.

Vernon served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945, attaining the rank of Motor Machinist Mate Second Class.

He was a member of Church of the Holy Cross in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Vernon loved woodworking, helping at the Senior Center and was on the Buhler City Council for eleven years.

He was united in marriage to Vernadene D. Smith on December 14, 1944 in Elkhart, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on July 2, 2021.&nbsp; They shared 76 years of marriage.

Vernon is survived by his granddaughter, Lora Carlson of the home; brother, Norman (Donna) Christensen of Garden City; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernadene, parents; daughter, Cheryl Carlson; sisters, Margery Johnson and Mabel VanSlyke; and brother, Donald Christensen.

Lee Taber, 91, went home to our Lord on November 3, 2021 at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. The oldest of nine children, she was born February 17, 1930 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Roy Lee and Ruby Leona (Cagle) McKenzie. On February 23, 1950 she married Gale H. Taber in Kingman. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2005. Lee was a bookkeeper for many years at lumber yards managed by Gale in Kansas and Oklahoma. She retired and devoted 49 years to making her grandson Sean's life the very best it could be. She saw him as her angel and blessing. She was an accomplished artist and she and Gale created many wonderful crafts together. She loved gardening and each year her flowers gave her joy. She is survived by her son, Michael and wife Diane Taber of Eureka; daughter, Marsha Taber of Pratt; grandson, Sean Taber of Pratt; granddaughter, Andrea (Phil) Hogue and great-granddaughter, Makenzi of Dodge City; brothers, Jim (Vera) McKenzie of St. Johns, Michigan and Gary McKenzie of Yukon, Oklahoma; and sisters, Jayne Morrell of Napa, California, Ann Chittick of Houston, Texas and Barbara McKenzie of Oregon. Frank Edmund White JR. passed away November 2, 2021, in Hesston.

He was born on April 27, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas, the son of Frank Edmund Sr. and Treva (Sartin) White.

Frank grew up on a dairy farm in Cedar Vale and as he always said “we kids were the hired hands until we left for college.” His interest in farming never left him thought and one interest in the last few years has been tractor auctions on RFD TV. He worked his way thru college and law school at Fleming Foods in Topeka. Frank would get an interest in something and then pursue it until he knew all about it.

In 1966 rank entered the US Navy. After boot camp he was assigned to the Coral Sea CVA-43 (an aircraft carrier) which was stationed off the coast of Vietnam on Yankee Station. He advanced quickly in rank doing various tasks in X division and was a 2nd class petty officer on discharge in 1970. He received the following medals: National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal (5 campaigns), and the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal (Korea). The Coral Sea was in the Sea of Japan when the Pueblo ship was seized. Prior to returning to the US in 1970 the Coral Sea made a good will visit to Australia. Frank was proud to serve in the Navy.

Following Graduation from law school and passing the bar exam, Frank practiced law in Kansas in Leavenworth and then Sedan. He was the county attorney in Chatauqua County for 11 years. In 1991, he moved to Wichita and assumed duties as an assistant district attorney until retirement in 2008.

Frank &amp; Linda moved to Schowalter Villa in Hesston’s independent living in June 2008. They enjoyed traveling by car, motorcycles and with the travel trailer for 8 years until medical issues interfered. Interests included bluegrass festivals, roller coasters, reading and music. Frank was an avid reader and had a good memory of what he read and loved to share that knowledge. Sometimes passionately in “lawyer voice.”

Frank is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Frank White (Natasha) of McPherson, Sean White (Wenda) of Aiken, SC, Rick Horton (Patti) of Bixby OK; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Siblings, Rob White (Peggy) of Wolfe City TX, Cheryl Raborn of Junction City, and 3 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother-in-law Pat Petitte and Glen Raborn and former wife, Donna. He will be missed beyond measure.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church in Valley Center, 560 N. Park Ave, Valley Center.

&nbsp;Irma Ruth Beery Giles Howell passed away October 5, 2021 at McPherson Hospital in McPherson, just weeks before reaching age 97. She had been a resident of The Cedars in McPherson for more than 20 years and was a McPherson College Class of 1949 graduate. She was born in Lintner, Illinois October 28, 1924 to Lester and Bertha (Cripe) Beery and graduated from Cerro Gordo (IL) High School in 1942. She married William (Bill) Giles in 1947 while they were attending McPherson College, then spent most of their working years in and around Peoria, Illinois, retiring fully in 2000 at The Cedars Independent Living in McPherson. She was the last of her generation having been preceded in death by brother Everett and sisters Iva and Leona (Petcher). Also preceding her in death were husband Bill (2001), son Gary of Elbing, (2010), and granddaughter Jessica Stevenson (2016) of McPherson. Surviving are Gary’s widow Sandy Giles (Brewer), Merle (Erika) Giles of Mahomet IL, Marianne Peeples of Phoenix AZ, and Marcia Stevenson of Montreal MO, along with 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Ruth survived her second husband Weldon Howell who passed in 2012. Surviving are step-children Veneta (Paul) Ediger of McPherson, Nolan (JoAnn Reed) Howell of McPherson, Norman (Mei-Feng) Howell of Fremont CA and Janice (Terry) Wokaty of Jacksonville AR, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Ruth taught public elementary school for 26 years, including 3 years in a one-room country school near Cerro-Gordo IL. She sang in the McPherson College choir as well as in church choirs well past age 90. She taught piano lessons for 15 years following retirement and ran a bed-and-breakfast for 15 years. She was active on the leadership board at her home Church of the Brethren in Peoria and was once the IL/WIS District Moderator. She earned a graduate degree in music theory post-retirement from Bradley University. She was known to play piano regularly at The Cedars and most recently played from memory for her family just days before passing. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the McPherson Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Chris Whitacre officiating. Internment of her cremains will be at the McPherson Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was the last of her generation having been preceded in death by brother Everett and sisters Iva and Leona (Petcher). Also preceding her in death were husband Bill (2001), son Gary of Elbing, (2010), and granddaughter Jessica Stevenson (2016) of McPherson. Surviving are Gary’s widow Sandy Giles (Brewer), Merle (Erika) Giles of Mahomet IL, Marianne Peeples of Phoenix AZ, and Marcia Stevenson of Montreal MO, along with 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Ruth survived her second husband Weldon Howell who passed in 2012. Surviving are step-children Veneta (Paul) Ediger of McPherson, Nolan (JoAnn Reed) Howell of McPherson, Norman (Mei-Feng) Howell of Fremont CA and Janice (Terry) Wokaty of Jacksonville AR, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Ruth taught public elementary school for 26 years, including 3 years in a one-room country school near Cerro-Gordo IL. She sang in the McPherson College choir as well as in church choirs well past age 90. She taught piano lessons for 15 years following retirement and ran a bed-and-breakfast for 15 years. She was active on the leadership board at her home Church of the Brethren in Peoria and was once the IL/WIS District Moderator. She earned a graduate degree in music theory post-retirement from Bradley University. She was known to play piano regularly at The Cedars and most recently played from memory for her family just days before passing. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the McPherson Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Chris Whitacre officiating. Internment of her cremains will be at the McPherson Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Germaine Elizabeth (Odom) Suiter-Smith, age 93, passed away on Nov. 1, 2021 at Kenwood Plaza, St. John.  She was born on Oct. 25, 1928 at Pratt,&nbsp; the daughter of Herbert and Ella S. (Bird) Odom.  Germaine was a Macksville High School graduate, homemaker and a retired nurse’s aide. She was a member of the Macksville Christian Church and the CWF both of Macksville.   On Oct. 22 1947, she married Eugene Lee Suiter at Macksville, KS., he passed away in 1998.  She married Donald Smith on Nov. 1, 2003 at Macksville, he survives of the home. Besides her husband Donald, she is survived by two sons, Douglas Suiter, Pratt, Kerry (Rita) Suiter, St. John; a son-in-law Tom (Betty) Johnson, Topeka; a step-daughter, Kathy Howell, Hutchinson; a step-son, Randy Smith, Woodward, OK.; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her first Husband Eugene, a daughter Gail Johnson, a brother Kenneth Odom and a grandchild, Chris Seidl, great grandchild, Brendan Graber. Fern graduated from Hutchinson High School with the class of 1956, and received a bachelor’s degree in Pre-med from Bethany Nazarene College, Bethany, Oklahoma and a bachelor’s degree as a Medical Tech from Wichita State University, Wichita. She has resided in Sterling since 2014, formerly of Wichita. On April 18, 1970, Fern was united in marriage with Warren Lee Griffith in Hutchinson. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2002. Joyce was a member of the Eastern Star, DAV Auxiliary and received her LPN license from Barton Community College while working at Little River Nursing Home. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; sister; and a granddaughter. Glenn was born February 21, 1927 in Abbyville, the son of Curtis V. and Pauline (Heibert) Epp.&nbsp; On December 28, 1945 Glenn married Vera L. Whitmore in Hutchinson.&nbsp; On July 12, 1945, Glenn enlisted in the Unites States Army and was honorably discharged on May 31, 1947.&nbsp; He served in World War II.&nbsp; While serving in the Army, he received the WWII Victory Metal.&nbsp; Glenn worked as an auto mechanic for Hambelton LaGreca and finally retired after 48 years.&nbsp; He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Vera; siblings, Leroy Epp and Wanda Irby; and son-in-law, Charles Shuff. Glenn is survived by his daughters, Christina Shuff of Hutchinson and Paulette Epp of Wichita; and a son, Ronald Epp of Wichita; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Anna’s life began on April 5, 1945, in East St. Louis, IL. She was the daughter of Jose and Maria F. (Penaranda) Segobiano. Anna graduated from St. Teresa’s Academy in East St. Louis. She was united in marriage to Louis Voelker on November 15, 1969, in Littleton, CO.

Anna was a florist and homemaker, raising their eight children. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence and a member of the Altar Society. Anna enjoyed making Rosaries for caskets, floral arranging and decorating cakes but her greatest joy was her family which includes her husband Lou of Florence; children Christine Parks of Grove City, OH, Deanna (Rob) Saba of Medina, OH, Nancy (Alan) Heckart of Omaha, NE, Martin (Kayme) Voelker of Nixa, MO, Fr. Nicholas Voelker, KHS of Newton, Dominic Voelker of Florence, Maria (Tom) West of Shawnee, KS and Eric Voelker of Carroll, TX; grandchildren Aly, Philip, Eva, Grace, Ben, Jessica, Alyson, Abby, Anastasia, John, William and Emily; siblings Ruth Voelker of Highland Ranch, CO and Arnold (Connie) Segobiano of Alton, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Anna passed away on Tuesday November 2, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion. She is preceded in death by her parents, and eleven brothers and sisters.

Leon L. Koehn, 99, of Moundridge, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021 at his home.&nbsp; He was born October 3, 1922 in Galva, the son of Eli J. and Susie (Eidse) Koehn.

He was a member of Gospel Mennonite Church in Moundridge.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Mae Koehn on October 31, 1943 in Montezuma.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on March 28, 1975. &nbsp;Leon later married Martha T. Ensz on July 11, 1976 in Cimarron.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his two sons, Lee (Janice) Koehn of Faunsdale, Alabama, and Melvin (Carol) Koehn of Hugoton; daughter, Naomi (Vincent) Becker of Moundridge; daughter-in-law, Cindy Koehn of El Campo, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, Dewey (Minnie) Koehn of Greensburg; three sisters, Ila (Jake) Koehn of Victoria, Texas, Velda Peaster of Atwater, California, and Frieda (Richard) Figg of Greensburg; and sister-in-law, Edna Figg of Geronimo, Oklahoma.

Vicki Sue&nbsp;(Miller)&nbsp;Arick , 76, loving wife, mom, grandma, sister and friend, went to be with Jesus on October 27, 2021, &nbsp;surrounded by her loved ones at home in Valley Center, where she has lived since 1970.

Vicki was born weighing only 2 lbs. 13 oz. on December 13 to Anne (Nicoson) Miller in Brazil, Indiana in 1944.&nbsp; Anne later married Archie Fry and moved to Valley Center, in 1952.&nbsp; Vicki graduated from Valley Center High School in 1962. She was a Hornets cheerleader and crowned Home Coming Queen her Senior year. &nbsp;After graduation she went to Wichita Business school for 2 years.&nbsp; She worked at Bank Four of Wichita and B &amp; D Instruments of Valley Center. Vicki was most proud of being a "Domestic Engineer" for her family for many years.

She met her husband Bill in 1952 in the 3rd grade and later started dating in the 7th grade. They were married on August 20, 1965 and have been married for 56 years. She supported Bill through his Military service. In 1968 they had their son, Shane Arick in California where they were stationed.&nbsp; In 1970 they moved back to Kansas to lay down roots. They had their daughter Anne in 1971. Vicki had many "bonus" kids that were her kids’ friends that she always treated as her own.

She enjoyed going dancing with her hubby back in the day,&nbsp; ceramic classes, sewing, cooking, the Jaycees club, snow &amp; water skiing, good times at her cabin with all her lake friends, loved watching HER Chiefs, Royals and Hornets play, proud Military wife, loved her country, and a woman of God. She enjoyed her kids and grandkids most of all. That was simply her pride and joy. Later in life she enjoyed QVC and her Ipad to keep connected with her loved ones. She was truly the best mom that never missed anything her kids were doing; supporting them in every way possible.&nbsp; She then became the best grandma ever to 6 grandchildren and one very special great granddaughter that she adored.

Vicki is survived by her husband William ‘Bill’ Arick, children Shane (Kristen) Arick and Anne (Daryl) Hainlen; grandchildren: Felicia (Andrew) Wiesing, Darien Hainlen, Myles (Taylor) Carter, Dagon Arick, Dalton (Jaime) Arick, and Donovyn Arick; great grandchildren: Madeline Arick and one due June 18,&nbsp;2022; sister Judy (Virgil) Shrauner; in-laws Lin (Mike) Neal, and Sue Fry; many nieces and nephews that she adored; numerous other family and friends.&nbsp; She is preceded by her parents Anne &amp; Archie Fry, sister Marilyn Hunt, brother Phil Fry, in-laws Ivan &amp; Dorothy Arick, nephew Ted Hunt, bonus daughter Doni Arbuckle, grandparents Dennis &amp; Cora Nicoson and Amos &amp; Maude Miller;&nbsp; many family and friends.

The family will honor Vicki's wishes to not have a funeral service. There will be a family &amp; close friends graveside service at the Valley Center Cemetery, on Nov. 13th at 3pm.

Nico enjoyed reading, gaming, gardening, animals, especially his cats, and watching anime shows. He loved telling jokes, listening to music, and most of all spending time with his son, Leon Ray Cruz Banuelos and family. Alan Ray ‘Pete’ Maxfield, 72, of Hutchinson, passed away peacefully October 31, 2021, at Hospice House. He was born June 22, 1949, in Hutchinson, to LeRoy V. ‘Bus’ and Dorothy F. ‘Dot’ (Renner) Maxfield.

Pete graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1968. He served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973 and was deployed to Vietnam. Pete worked as a heavy equipment operator for Reno County. He enjoyed reading, loved music, and was fascinated with wolves and everything about them. Pete was of the Baptist faith.

He married Leslie Ann Leonard. She died December 11, 2017.

Pete is survived by: sons, Justin Maxfield of Sedgwick County, Danny Maxfield of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Paige, Harley, and Darian Maxfield; brothers, Jerry Maxfield of Hutchinson, Michael Maxfield (Edie) of Monument, CO; caregivers, Mike and Sally Chansler; and many extended family members.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Ron Kyker officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Alan 'Pete' Ray Maxfield |1949-2021|

Donna Lee Ida (Harcey) Wright was born in Uti­ca, Minnesota, on March 4, 1934, as the 6th of 11 children to Ralph and Ruby (Small) Harcey. As a farm girl, she learned early how to lovingly invest in her family. She was a good student and always valued her education. Reading became her life-long passion, especially in later years, when chores no longer consumed her days.

She accepted Christ as her Savior as a child through the Rural Bible Crusade missionary. As she helped with VBS by leading music, she made a personal commitment to Christ, and began serving Him by teaching Sunday school and children’s clubs soon after. Donna graduated from St. Charles High School in 1951. Donna attended Midwest Bible and Missionary Institute for the purposes of preparing for the mission field. There she met Richard Wright, her husband, who was also preparing for Christian service. Richard and Donna married July 17, 1954, in an outdoor wedding in St. Charles, MN and returned to resume their college education. Though Richard and Donna farmed in early married life, Richard was soon called to the pastorate. In their 67 years of marriage, they served in five different churches in various denominations, always ready to teach the Scriptures. Donna is remembered by her children as the children’s church teacher, carefully walking through the Old and New Testaments with her flannelgraph stories. In addition, the pastor’s wife was found leading Christmas programs, providing special music, preparing newsletters, and doing office work. Richard, her husband, credits his success to her partnering with him in service. When asked what career Donna had, the answers are varied. She has been a pastor’s wife, accountant, store owner, cook, school teacher/daycare director, and always a faithful housewife and patient mother. Her nurturing spirit drew all who knew her to love her. She frequently inquired about the concerns and activities of her friends and family and maintained an active relationship with them. Donna was a lovely soprano, but enjoyed trios over the years. When the family prepared to travel and sing as a support to Dad’s ministry, Donna taught separate parts to the children, so that duets, trios, quartets and fam­ily numbers all had their harmonies in concert. On her last birthday, the entertainment was the family singing Mom’s favorite hymns and songs in close harmony. Christian education was important to Donna. She completed her Bachelor’s degree from Liberty University in 1994, fulfilling her life-long dream and enabling her to teach in St. Charles Christian School. Each of her children also attended Christian high school and Christian college, with a design toward being ready to serve the Savior. Those investments and many prac­tical conversations about living for Jesus gave a Biblical worldview to her children, which has since passed on to her grandchildren. All five children have been involved in Christian ministry full-time, either in missions or Christian education. Her grandchildren continue the legacy of being involved in education and/or church ministry. Her legacy is described in Ps 61:5 “For you, O God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.” Donna is survived by her husband, Richard, and their children, Paul (Beth) Wright, Mendoza, Argentina; Cherry (Elwyn) Stucky, Whitewater, KS; Sandra (David) Smith, Palmer Lake, CO; Rochelle “Shelly” (Dale) Friesen, Walton, KS; and Richard “Ric” (Jamie) Wright, Elbing, KS; grandchildren, Keren, Jon (Amber), Lisa (Jorge), Ben (Rachel), Josiah, Matthew, Mark, Jordan (Abbi), and Sara; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Caleb, Gideon and two coming this fall; her brother, Stanley (Lavonne) Harcey of St. Charles, MN, and sister, Joyce Narveson, Moberly, MO.

Mikah Jensen Leigh Ansell, infant son of Andrew Ansell and Alexus Barlow-McKenna of Herington, passed away unexpectedly on October 28, 2021, at the Herington Municipal Hospital. 

Mikah was born on July 27, 2021, at Irwin Army Hospital in Ft. Riley, KS. Mikah’s life on earth might have been short, but the impact he made on his parent’s and grandparent’s life will be long lasting. Mikah, is survived by his parents of the home, his maternal grandparents; John Mckenna and Zarra Barlow, paternal grandparents John Herrick and Kathryn Ansell. Several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and many other relatives. Carol Mae (Heinrichs) Friesen, age 89, died peacefully on September 18, 2021, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.  Carol was born in Hillsboro, KS, on March 6, 1932, to Peter E. and Lillie (Boese) Heinrichs and raised on the family farm south of Canton with older sister Wanda and younger brother Lowell.  She attended the one-room school near their home, then graduated from Goessel HS in 1950.  She attended Tabor College, where she met Walter S. Friesen from Meade, KS, and they married on September 5, 1953.  They parented three children and lived in many locations in support of Walter’s education and career in education and ministry, retiring in the Newton area. While Carol held numerous secretarial positions and enjoyed volunteering, her passions were music and nature. 

Carol participated in more than thirty church and community choirs, numerous duets, trios, and quartets.  She accompanied many musicians and was a highly expressive pianist.  Carol and Walter sang duets at many weddings, including their children’s.

A keen observer of her environment, Carol coordinated her efforts to the finest detail, taking a scientific approach to adjustments she made in the garden and kitchen.  She nurtured remarkable gardens at each residence.  She was curious to explore new places near and far, and especially enjoyed nature outings with the family. Carol was an amateur naturalist and knew the names and relationships of plants, birds and butterflies in their environments.  She made an art form of collecting and pressing flowers for making exquisitely arranged pressed flower cards. 

Carol was deeply spiritual and trusted her Creator.  She brought a centered calm and loving effect to everything she touched, punctuated with dry, witty humor.  Mealtime was a sacred time for hosting those who graced her table.  Carol “made” home for the family and welcomed many guests, often with apple pie.  Her resourcefulness and creativity led to a rich life. 

Surviving Carol are her husband Walter; children Randal &amp; Mary Helen (Hayes) Friesen, Nancy Friesen &amp; Stewart Gehring, and Jenny &amp; John Fast; grandchildren Peter Friesen &amp; Katrina Eyster, Stephanie Friesen, Dorian Gehring &amp; Sima Cunningham, Karlyn Gehring, Evan &amp; Kelli Fast, and Isaac Fast; great-grandchildren Elias and Emilia Fast; several sisters-in-law; many nieces &amp; nephews.  Preceding her in death were her parents, siblings, and many brothers/sisters-in-law.

Carol Mae (Heinrichs) Friesen, age 89, died peacefully on September 18, 2021, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. Carol was born in Hillsboro, KS, on March 6, 1932, to Peter E. and Lillie (Boese) Heinrichs and raised on the family farm south of Canton with older sister Wanda and younger brother Lowell. She attended the one-room school near their home, then graduated from Goessel HS in 1950. She attended Tabor College, where she met Walter S. Friesen from Meade, KS, and they married on September 5, 1953. They parented three children and lived in many locations in support of Walter’s education and career in education and ministry, retiring in the Newton area. While Carol held numerous secretarial positions and enjoyed volunteering, her passions were music and nature. Carol participated in more than thirty church and community choirs, numerous duets, trios, and quartets. She accompanied many musicians and was a highly expressive pianist. Carol and Walter sang duets at many weddings, including their children’s.A keen observer of her environment, Carol coordinated her efforts to the finest detail, taking a scientific approach to adjustments she made in the garden and kitchen. She nurtured remarkable gardens at each residence. She was curious to explore new places near and far, and especially enjoyed nature outings with the family. Carol was an amateur naturalist and knew the names and relationships of plants, birds and butterflies in their environments. She made an art form of collecting and pressing flowers for making exquisitely arranged pressed flower cards. Carol was deeply spiritual and trusted her Creator. HUTCHINSON, Kan. — All of us at Eagle Radio are sad to announce that longtime BW Morning Show host and salesman Doug Morse has died. He was 78.&nbsp;

Doug was hired by the late Fred Conger in 1971 after coming to Hutchinson from McPherson and spent 44 years at BW Radio. He was sales manager and the leader in sales for the Hutchinson market for many years. Doug also hosted the morning show for 40-plus years and Wednesday’s phone forum was always his favorite day of the week.&nbsp;

Doug’s favorite hobby was fishing and, if you ever saw his desk, you would see 15 to 20-plus pictures of fishing trips surrounding his desk. Doug also was very close to his family and most of those fishing trips included the family. He spent many weeks at Table Rock Lake.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Doug worked on the morning show with well known names such as Fred Conger, Sam Jones, Barbara Withrow, George Batchelor, Bob Watson, to current members Sue Achilles, John Brennan, Rob Dreher and Max Bringle.

He handled the sales account list of many local businesses and, according to Sue Achilles — host of the Party Line and morning show — she&nbsp; never met anyone who was more loyal and cared about his clients than Doug.&nbsp;

One of our favorite morning show stories about Doug was when his wife Karon had a garage sale and Doug hated haggling over prices. There was something listed for $1 and this person said, "I’ll give you $.50." Doug looked at him and said, “I'll throw the damn thing away for that,” and threw it in the trash and left. He said Karon didn’t ask him to help with many garage sales after that.

Doug is survived by his wife, Karon, they were married 58 years. He also has three sons Mark, Rob, and PJ, along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

All of us at Eagle will miss Doug and his loyalty to his job, his passion for Eagle and his sense of humor.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Galva Christian Church in McPherson.

The viewing is Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home in McPherson.

Roland Devere "R.D" Johnson, 83, of McPherson, passed away at 10:37 a.m., Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021 at the farm he was born on, north of Conway with his daughter nearby. R.D. was born in Rural Conway, on June 14, 1938, a son of Evelina Beda (Ledell) and Leebert Bernard Johnson. R.D. attended Elmdale Country School for the 1st Grade until they consolidated with Centerview Country School where he attended until the 8th Grade. He then attended and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson. He served in the U.S. Army as a SP5. Kansas Army National Guard Company A. Throughout the years Roland worked as a farmer and a dirt mover driving his D6C Caterpillar. R.D. appreciated Agriculture and Soil Conservation. R.D. enjoyed collecting antique farm and dirt moving equipment. He is survived by his daughter, Inga Alicia Marie "Boogedy" Johnson, of San Francisco, California and his nephew Greg McCullough, of Homer, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leebert and Evelina Johnson and his sister, Ruth Elaine McCullough. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson.
