SYLVIA – Serena Taylor Blaske, 21, died Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Hays, KS. Born December 15, 1999 at Hays she was the daughter of Keith and Michelle Dickson Blaske. She was a 2018 Macksville High School graduate and was a Senior at Ft. Hays State University.
Lively and outgoing, Serena, was involved in everything possible, and known by her friends and family to be smart, ambitious, always smiling and ready for any adventure.
During her time at Macksville High School, she was involved in everything: National Honor Society, band, all sports and clubs, including STUCO and Kayettes.
Serena thrived as a member of Pratt Community College’s Cross Country team. As a freshman she helped push them to receive a KJCAA 3rd Place and a NJCAA 13th Team Finish. As a sophomore, she was part of the top 5 runners that received a KJCAA West Championship, a NJCAA 18th Team Finish, and a NJCAA 8th Team Finish Half Marathon. Her family loved to travel and watch her run. Serena gave it her all in each race. She graduated from PCC in the spring of 2020 with an Associates Degree in Elementary Education.
While attending Fort Hays State University, Serena did not waste time getting involved. She was the head football manager for the Tigers. She loved flying drones at practice and traveling with the team. She also worked at the university pool and had recently started being the DJ at home FHSU basketball games. She loved learning and attending her internship in kindergarten. Serena was currently in her senior year at FHSU, finishing her Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education.
During the summers, she was well known as the loud lifeguard making the kids follow the rules, but she never turned down a game of chicken off the diving board. Serena loved to have fun and laugh.
She is survived by her parents: Keith and Michelle Blaske. Brother: Harley Blaske. Grandparents: Jaye and Denise Dickson, John and Joyce Blaske. Uncles: Jason Dickson, Kevin (Yvonne) Blaske and Ken (Jennifer) Blaske. Aunts: Kristie Dressman, Kathy Michaelis and Karen (Rob) White.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 14 at the United Methodist Church, Stafford. Burial will be at the Stafford Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 1-6 p.m. at Minnis Chapel, Stafford. Memorials may be sent to the FHSU Serena Blaske Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
