Light show for charities a success again

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The House of Capper renovation project at the Kansas State Fair will wrap up in early 2023.

"We are hoping for the end of January, early part of February, to have that completed," said State Fair General Manager Bryan Schulz. "

&nbsp;The Capper Project is a tribute to the work of Arthur Capper in rebuilding the structure to its original state and to develop and build the Capper Cooperative Park to celebrate the Capper-Volstead Act of 1922, which allowed for the creation of cooperatives in the United States. 

"The Co-Op Park that is just to the north of that, it will be semi-done, but we'll wait until spring to finish up with all the plantings and putting up all the signs and everything else there," Schulz said. "By springtime, that will be completely done."

The project came in well over its original budget and the Fairgrounds Foundation is still taking donations to finish that up.

"If you are interested in helping out, definitely reach out to James Fisher with the Fairgrounds Foundation," Schulz said. "They are always looking for project help."

The House of Capper has historical significance on the Kansas State Fairgrounds as the place where many local, state and national political figures announced and launched their campaigns. The latest candidate to do so was U.S. Senator Roger Marshall M.D. in 2019, prior to his win in 2020. 

The original building was paid for entirely by Arthur Capper and built to his design. The rebuild will pay full respect to the original architectural design of the building, while incorporating all current ADA and building regulations.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Juliette Bradley with the Alzheimer's Association notes that those who have family history of dementia should begin now trying to improve their overall health to reduce their risk.

"Your decisions really have a lot to do with your cognitive health," Bradley said. "When we say take your body to the gym, we also say take your brain to the gym. There are many things that you can do to reduce your risks of getting dementia."

Cutting out things like cookies, chips, soda and other junk foods can not only impact your waistline but your brain health as well. Research shows that diets high in ultra-processed foods have a 28% faster decline in cognitive scores. It's also important to prevent seasonal illness.

"There is strong research that says getting a flu shot is associated with a 40% decrease in the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease over the next four years. According to some research from the University of Texas, even just one single flu vaccination can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's by 17%."

Physical exercise helps to maintain good blood flow to the brain and can reduce certain risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease, it's also important to get out and be social for both people with dementia and those who care for them.

"You have to find ways to get out of the house," Bradley said. "For the caregiver, that means, you need to find some respite help. Bring someone in to stay with your loved one so you can get outside. Get some sunshine. Meet somebody for lunch, go to a movie, whatever it may be. Go to the library. Get involved in a faith group. For the person who has dementia, the Alzheimer's Association has social engagement activities for individuals who have Alzheimer's Disease. Those are extremely important to do."

Alzheimer's Association: Body health is brain health

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Jade Piros de Carvalho is the Director of the Office of Broadband Development in the Kansas Department of Commerce. She tells Hutch Post that there is an important deadline for Kansans to challenge the new&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fcc.gov/" target="_blank">Federal Communications Commission</a>&nbsp;broadband service location and availability maps.&nbsp;

"In conjunction with this historic level of funding to provide broadband to every American, Congress felt it was very important, and I agree, that we need to be the best stewards of those funds and we need to channel those dollars into the areas where service doesn't exist,"&nbsp;Piros de Carvalho said. "We need to know where service is and where it isn't and this map was recently published to help demonstrate that. The FCC recognizes that it's a draft and is asking for the public's help in trying to identify inaccuracies in the map. This is very important, because the amount of money states will get from the infrastructure bill toward broadband hinges on the accuracy of this map."

The map deadline is less than two weeks away.

"The FCC has tried to make it as easy as possible,"&nbsp;Piros de Carvalho said. "Our office is available to walk people through the process, if they find it cumbersome. Several older people have called me and said, this is really hard to navigate. <a href="https://www.kansascommerce.gov/program/challenge/">You can go to kansascommerce.gov/broadband and the first thing that comes up is a graphic that says, Challenge the Map</a>.

Currently the FCC shows KS at under 5% unserved. The state believes that residents are more likely closer to 15% unserved.

"If it says you have three providers that are providing high speed internet and you know for a fact you can't get internet, then your house isn't going to be counted as unserved,"&nbsp;Piros de Carvalho said. "We've found a lot of inaccuracies in that respect. That's just because it's a little bit difficult to report where your network is and where your network isn't. This data comes from providers who report where they can serve. Some of the different technologies, it's a little bit more nebulous."

This is particularly true if the only fast lane onto the internet for you comes from a wireless connection, especially if you are far from the wireless tower that serves you. The deadline for challenges is Jan. 13, 2023.

How to bookmark Hutch Post on your mobile device

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Rep. Jason Probst said you may not be able to tell, but your grocery bill should go down in January.

"We should see, based on the legislation that we put out last year on the Axe The Tax provisions, we should see about a 2.5% reduction in the food sales tax in January and then progressively another two percent, I believe it's a year after that and another two percent the year after that."

Now that the campaign for Governor is over and the state still is flush with cash, Probst would like to see what's left of that tax eliminated more quickly.

"I would sure hope so," Probst said. "There were a lot of us, both Republicans and Democrats, who wanted to see the full repeal last year. It was very clear to us that it was bound up in election year politics and there was a block of people who didn't want to give the governor a campaign issue that she could go champion and say, I did this for you."

She took credit for it anyway and she won't be running again.

"By her own words, she said, 'I'm not ever going to be on a ballot again. She certainly won't be on the ballot for governor."

Ultimately, though, the future of how fast or slow the rollback happens will be up to Republican leadership in both houses and whether they think they'll still have enough money without any food tax.

Food tax rollback to start, Probst 'hopes' it can go faster

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — District Judge Joe McCarville is retiring, and Chief Judge Patricia Macke Dick is inviting those with memories of "Joe Mac" to share to a reception Jan. 5 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.&nbsp;in the third-floor courtroom in the Reno County Courthouse designated Division One.

McCarville has been a leader from his youth, having received an appointment to the&nbsp;U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York entering on July 1, 1965, and joining the Class of 1969.

As a cadet, he at first had to work hard to keep up with the academic load but by the third year made it onto the Dean's List. Athletically, he helped his Company in intramurals with two years on the track team, two years cross country team and two years on the triathlon team. That team won the Brigade Championship his last year and he won the Brigade Open individual championship. He was selected as the Company F-3 Most Valuable Athlete for the 1968-1969 academic year. 

He also was on the intercollegiate pistol team (an actual varsity sport!) four years earning a varsity A as a scoring member of the team that beat Navy. He graduated June 4th, 1969, as a Second Lieutenant, Infantry, Regular Army.

After graduation he attended the Parachute School at Ft. Benning, GA, followed by the Jumpmaster School, Ranger School and Infantry Officers Basic School followed by assignment to the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC. There he served as a Rifle Platoon leader in B Company, 1st Bn, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment for a month before being selected to lead the Battalion Reconnaissance and Surveillance platoon.

After five months in the 82nd Airborne, he received orders to Vietnam.

Before being deployed, he attended the Jungle Warfare School at Ft. Sherman in the Panama Canal Zone and earned the Jungle Warfare Expert badge. Finally, arriving in Vietnam in August 1970 he discovered that the Division he had volunteered for, the First Infantry Division, had been redeployed to Ft. Riley, KS.

He was instead assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in northern I Corps, just south of the DMZ. He served for seven months as an infantry platoon leader. After dozens of helicopter air assaults, and hundreds of days patrolling and nights conducting ambushes or overnight defenses, he was promoted to company executive officer running the company's rear operations out of Camp Evans. 

That job lasted two months until he became the Battalion Assistant Operations Officer for Air. The last four months in Vietnam were on firebases and in command-and-control helicopters, tracking the movements of his battalion's companies, planning, and directing helicopter air assaults and planning and directing air support missions. 

McCarville returned stateside in August 1971 to Fort Riley, Kansas and was assigned to Division Headquarters of the Big Red One, detailed to the "General Staff' branch and worked as an operations officer. After a few months training in the field at Fort Riley and in Germany he had the good fortune to meet Diane Deffenbaugh Hewitt. Thirty-four days later they were engaged and five and a half months after that they were married. 

After three years at Fort Riley, he left the Army to enter law school at Washburn. The second day of classes, their daughter, Amy was born.

During his last year of law school Joe was able to do internships at the Lyon County Attorney's office, the Washburn Legal Clinic, and the Shawnee County District Attorney's office. 

In Shawnee County he worked with, but not for, Joe O'Sullivan. After graduation he was able to stay on as an Assistant DA until offered a position by O'Sullivan in the Reno County Attorney's Office. 

The family bought a house and moved to Hutchinson at the end of March 1978. Diane was pregnant and son David was born in July.

O'Sullivan was elected County Attorney in November of 1980 and resigned in August 1981. McCarville was selected by the Republican Central Committee to serve the rest of his term. 

In August 1982, he lost the Republican primary for DA to Timothy Chambers.

In January 1983 he joined Rauh, Thorne, Robinson, and Childs as an associate. Later he became a partner and with the passing of Ralph Thorne, and Charles Rauh and departure of John Robinson, the joining of David Brown who later passed away and the merger with Ron Leslie and Paul Brown the firm was known as Leslie, O'Sullivan, McCarville, and Brown.

In 2002, McCarville ran for District Judge in the August primary, defeating David Holmes. He then lost a hard-fought general election to Richard Rome that November. 

In 2004, he ran in the August Republican primary for District Magistrate Judge against five opponents and was successful. He faced the winner of the two-way Democrat primary, Randal McEwen and was again successful.

After two years as Magistrate, he ran in the 2006 Republican primary against Thomas Stanton and Rick Roberts. After the primary victory he faced Sarah McKinnon who he defeated in the November general election.

After four years as the Division III District Judge, he helped to organize the Reno County Drug Court. After about ten months of recruiting, organizing, and training, the Drug Court had it's first session in March 2011. 

Since then, hundreds of seriously addicted people, who also faced multiple barriers to successful treatment and sobriety, have graduated with lives of recovery, stable jobs, restored family relationships and community involvement. They left behind crime, addiction, and incarceration.

In his two years as Magistrate Judge and continuing as District Judge, McCarville presided over all the civil protection from abuse and stalking cases for 17 years. He had asked for that case load because he felt his 22 years of private practice handling hundreds of divorce and custody cases gave him an advantage in assisting those families.

McCarville has been a shooter and a runner almost all his life. In addition to his competitive shooting while a cadet, he has continued as a competitive shooter in rifle and pistol, as well as an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor. 

McCarville runs for exercise and recreation and has competed in running road races and in triathlons.

He has served on various boards of non-profits and was a volunteer Boy Scout leader for over 20 years earning Order of the Arrow Vigil, Brotherhood and Vigil Honor degrees and receiving the District Award of Merit and from the Council the Silver Beaver Award.

Refreshments will be served at McCarville's reception and there will be presentations and speakers at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 5. This will include an opportunity for friends to share any stories or thoughts and well wishes&nbsp; for Judge McCarville.

McCarville to retire after long and distinguished military and legal career

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Mayor Jade Piros de Carvalho said the council is going to handle filling Sara Bagwell's council seat differently than previous vacancies.

"People were merely appointed by the council," the mayor said. "It was just kind of plucking somebody out of that particular district and allowing them to finish out the term. We wanted it to be a little more open and provide an opportunity for people to apply, if they wanted to."

That application window will open next week.

"We're going to have an application process that is similar to one of our commissions," the mayor said. "If you want to be on the planning commission or the tree board, you fill out an application. It's relatively short and we will have that available on the website, starting on the 3rd, after our meeting. We wanted to use the meeting as an opportunity to advertise, and educate people on the opening and where they can find the information."

People need to understand that even applying for the job will put them in the public eye.

"We're keeping that open for about 10 days," the mayor said. "We want to be able to review those applications on the 17th, so the second meeting in January, and make selections. It's important to recognize that these are open applications, which means that they will be included in the City Council packet that goes out the Thursday prior to that meeting. I would anticipate media outreach to the people who have submitted their names and maybe have questions for them to answer, in addition to the questions they have answered on the council application."

Since Bagwell held the at large representative seat for the council, all you have to be is a Hutchinson resident, anywhere in the city, for the last six months.

Mayor explains process to fill open council seat

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kansas State Fair General Manager Bryan Schulz is going to have a meeting next month to talk about the future of what will be the old fire station once the new one is finished in May.

"We have started the conversation with all of our emergency people in the city, the fire, the police, sheriff, all those groups, about possibly making that into an emergency command center during fair time and also other times during the year, when we need it," Schulz said.&nbsp;

It's still unclear what direction those conversations will go.

"We're looking at maybe enlarging the space for the Highway Patrol," Schulz said. "Maybe moving the VIN inspection over to that area. Our team is kind of cramped into our quarters. This is all conversation. We're not sure what is going to happen. Initially, that building was going to be torn down and that was going to become more parking and more vendor space for the fairgrounds."

This spot was once conceptualized when Robin Jennison was fair manager as a potential spot for a hotel property on the fairgrounds, but with a <a href="https://hutchpost.com/posts/48a4a7bf-1e54-4cd7-8798-ee779067dc65">new hotel project moving to town now anyway</a>, it remains to be seen if any additional sites in or around the grounds will be looked at long term.

Plans may be changing for fire station once trucks move

RENO COUNTY—A Hutchinson woman was injured in an accident just after 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Reno County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2002 Toyota Camry driven by 87-year-old Mary Emma Zook of Hutchinson was northbound on Dean Road and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with U.S. 50 five miles west of South Hutchinson, when the Toyota then pulled into the intersection and struck the trailer on a 2023 Peterbilt semi driven by 23-year-old Jeffrey Allen Nelson of Bruce, Wisconsin. 

The impact caused the Toyota to spin into the south shoulder of U.S 50 where it came to rest.&nbsp; The setting sun may have affected visibility for the driver of the Toyota.

EMS transported Zook to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Nelson and a passenger in the Toyota were not injured. All three were properly restrained, according to the KHP.

Hutchinson woman hospitalized after car strikes semi's trailer

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Police have made an arrest related to an incident outside the Rusty Needle earlier this week.

According to information provided by Lt. Dustin Loepp, officers were sent just after midnight Monday morning to the establishment at 1808 North Plum.

The Rusty Needle was locked down while police investigated. Two people told them that a man&nbsp;brandished and pointed a handgun at them.&nbsp; 

The investigation revealed that later, as the suspect was leaving the parking lot in a vehicle, he fired a series of shots into the air.&nbsp; 

There were no injuries reported as a result of the shots fired.&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Thursday afternoon&nbsp; at 1:40 p.m. while continuing the investigation detectives located the suspect at a residence in Hutchinson.&nbsp; 

Police then arrested 32-year-old Ignacio Enriquez of Hutchinson for 1) Aggravated Criminal Threat, 2) Aggravated Assault X2, 3) Criminal discharge of a firearm within the city limits.

All suspects are considered innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

This case is still under investigation, and this is all the information that is being released at this time.

Arrest made in relation to incident outside Rusty Needle

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County government announced on Dec. 29, the Arthritis Foundation “Walk With Ease” Program will be offered starting Jan. 18, 2023, at the Elmdale Senior Center and at the Hutchinson YMCA. &nbsp;

Walk With Ease is a structured walking program that teaches participants how to safely make physical activity part of their everyday life. The program is designed to help people living with arthritis better manage their pain and is also ideal for people without arthritis who want to make walking a daily habit.&nbsp;

Individuals can join others in this free, six-week group series led by a certified leader. &nbsp;

The structured walking program will meet at a designated time on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays for a brief lesson about related topics on arthritis, exercise, walking safely and comfortably, as well as motivational strategies and group sharing. &nbsp;

This is followed by warm-ups and stretches, a 10 to 30-minute walk, then a cooldown and stretches. &nbsp;

All participants will receive a textbook full of helpful information.&nbsp;

“Research shows that walking is not only good for joints, but also helps improve the health of the heart,lungs and bones,” Diane Swinney, program leader at the Reno County Health Department, said. “Walking can also help manage weight which can reduce one’s risk for heart disease, diabetes and arthritis in the knees. If you can be on your feet for 10 minutes without increased pain, you will most likely have success with Walk With Ease, but it’s always a good idea to check with your physician before starting any exercise program.”&nbsp;

Benefits of the program include an increase in balance, strength and walking pace, as well as reducing the pain and discomfort of arthritis. &nbsp;

The program is also shown to build participant confidence to be physically active and improve overall health.&nbsp;

Pre-registration for the Walk With Ease Program is necessary, as class size is limited.&nbsp;

There will be two six-week winter sessions. &nbsp;

The first at the Hutchinson YMCA with classes from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., starting Jan. 18 through March 1, each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. &nbsp;

 </figure>HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County government announced on Dec. 29, the Arthritis Foundation “Walk With Ease” Program will be offered starting Jan. 18, 2023, at the Elmdale Senior Center and at the Hutchinson YMCA. &nbsp;Walk With Ease is a structured walking program that teaches participants how to safely make physical activity part of their everyday life. The program is designed to help people living with arthritis better manage their pain and is also ideal for people without arthritis who want to make walking a daily habit.&nbsp;Individuals can join others in this free, six-week group series led by a certified leader. &nbsp;The structured walking program will meet at a designated time on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays for a brief lesson about related topics on arthritis, exercise, walking safely and comfortably, as well as motivational strategies and group sharing. &nbsp;This is followed by warm-ups and stretches, a 10 to 30-minute walk, then a cooldown and stretches. &nbsp;All participants will receive a textbook full of helpful information.&nbsp;“Research shows that walking is not only good for joints, but also helps improve the health of the heart,lungs and bones,” Diane Swinney, program leader at the Reno County Health Department, said. “Walking can also help manage weight which can reduce one’s risk for heart disease, diabetes and arthritis in the knees. Walk With Ease program offered locally in January

HUTCHINSON, Kan. —&nbsp;A pretrial hearing for Tyann White, 32, Hutchinson, is set for Feb. 15, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. &nbsp;

<a href="https://hutchpost.com/posts/a18f6c8c-be20-429a-ad0e-f42dd334d4ad">In a previous release</a>, the Hutchinson Police Department said it was made aware of the allegations on Sept. 30. Officers discovered there may have been unlawful sexual acts between White and two juvenile males.

White was <a href="https://hutchpost.com/posts/a18f6c8c-be20-429a-ad0e-f42dd334d4ad">arrested on Nov. 7</a>. &nbsp;

Two more boys were later identified as additional victims.&nbsp;

White was arrested on suspicion of four counts of rape, three counts of aggravated sodomy, three counts of aggravated indecent liberties and indecent solicitation of a child.&nbsp;

White has 21 total offenses, including drug and alcohol charges. &nbsp;

Hearing set for woman in sexual abuse case

BUHLER, Kan. — The Reno County Public Works Department, on behalf of Reno County, has been chosen to receive $820,000 in grant funding for the replacement of the bridge on Victory Road one-half mile east and two miles south of Buhler. The announcement came on Dec. 29. &nbsp;

The grant is part of the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2024 Off System Bridge Program.&nbsp;

Don Brittain, Reno County Public Works Director, said this was the third time he had applied for the grant to replace the 140-foot-long bridge that spans the Little Arkansas River. &nbsp;

According to Brittain, two major floods have caused the bridge deck to loosen from the piling supporting the bridge. &nbsp;

Due to the large size of the bridge, Reno County’s bridge crew is not able to build a new bridge. &nbsp;

“I’m very pleased to be able to replace another bridge with a minimal cost to the taxpayers and be able to mark another bridge off the needed replacement list,” Brittain said.&nbsp;

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) received 99 applications requesting assistance for projects totaling $93.2 million in construction costs. KDOT was able to award $20.5 million to 22 projects in the program supporting $22.3 million worth of total construction cost. &nbsp;

"On behalf of the rural Buhler residents in my district, I applaud the efforts of Reno County Public Works to leverage grant dollars to rebuild rural bridges to maintain fast access to emergency services and support our rural economy,” Reno County Commission Chairman Daniel Friesen said. “We are too, thankful for KDOT's vision in helping our county secure critical infrastructure for generations to come.”&nbsp;

The maximum amount of funding for the project is $820,000. &nbsp;

Eligible work includes construction and inspection performed under contract. &nbsp;

Reno County will be&nbsp;responsible for any costs over the maximum award, as well as costs for design, right-of-way acquisition, utility relocation, and any non-participating costs.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — There is some brief work that the three member commission of Daniel Friesen, Ron Hirst and Ron Sellers will finish at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9 before the new commissioners who were elected are seated.

"We will begin the meeting with the three commissioners, go through maybe the consent agenda, a couple items, some of the housekeeping of what's been worked on this year, this month, so that current commission can make those decisions. Then, we will have Judge Rose come do a swearing in. She's coming over at 10 a.m. At that point, we'll kind of pause the meeting, do the swearing in and a reorganization and switch the seats."

We know for sure that Randy Parks and Don Bogner will be seated then, but we don't know yet if the process will be completed to fill Mark Reese's seat by that date and the fire resolution is going to be done before the installation, according to Partington.

"It's on the consent agenda for the three commissioners," Partington said. "The two new ones coming in are aware of it. They've seen copies of the burn resolution. There's a few minor modifications. Everything else is what the county commission wanted changes to."

The proposed resolution has been reviewed and edited by all of the fire chiefs in Reno County, the Kansas Forest Service, NRCS, Conservation District, District Attorney's Office, County Counselor and Emergency Management.

Scope of USD 313 bond proposal not to exceed $8 million

NEWTON, Kan. — The City of Newton announced on Dec. 29, their street crews will collect and recycle real Christmas trees on Jan. 3, 9 and 23.

The City of Newton said the trees must be placed at the curb with all lights and ornaments removed. 

Trees can also be taken directly to the Harvey County Rodeo Grounds located at 700 W. First St.

Free mulch will be available beginning Jan. 28 at the Rodeo Grounds. People must bring their own containers to transport the mulch.

The&nbsp; tree clean-up service is free through Jan. 23. 

Any trees placed after the specified dates will require a $10 bulky item pickup fee.&nbsp;

City of Newton to pick up Christmas trees

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The half-mile oval at the Kansas State Fairgrounds is going away.

"2023 will be the last year for the race track," State Fair General Manager Bryan Schulz said Thursday. "This will be the last Hutch Nationals this summer. What we're going to do is, we're going to be looking at a brand new staging area and grandstand seating area and also doing a dirt event area. Those are some master plan things that we're looking at and then recouping some of that land where the track was."

The capacity of the grandstand won't go up significantly.

"The grandstand seating itself will stay the exact same size, but it will be like, that front area will become more of a VIP area," Schulz said. "Right in front of the stage, there would be a standing room only. We would be able to increase the number of people that could attend events."

"We'll be able to do some other dirt events, like I said, monster truck shows, demolition derbies, truck pulls, tractor pulls, those kinds of things," Schulz said. "The plan would be to create a smaller dirt venue up on the north side of the grandstand area that would allow for that."

This move was approved by the Kansas State Fair board at their November meeting.

Hutch Post regrets this error.By JUDD WEIL&nbsp; Hutch PostHUTCHINSON, Kan. —&nbsp;A Hutchinson family, impacted by cancer, is raising funds with the help of their surrounding community.&nbsp;Daniel Moore is afflicted with stage four cancer. &nbsp;According to his wife, Jerica Moore, it has progressed very fast since they initially found out. &nbsp;“We believe that the symptoms started back in&nbsp;late September, but they officially came out attacking pretty much on Thanksgiving,” Jerica Moore said.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Moore family found out Daniel had stage four cancer on Dec. 8. &nbsp;Jerica admitted she was knocked back at first by the diagnosis. &nbsp;“I really did not believe it, kind of was still in shock,” Jerica said. “Then I felt like, me&nbsp;personally, I went into that attack mode. Like, ‘what do we need to do to fight&nbsp;this’ and&nbsp;I feel like I'm still in that fight mode.” &nbsp;“There's nothing that's worse than hearing that you have stage four cancer that’s incurable, and there's nothing they can do really.”&nbsp;&nbsp;Jerica said the family is scared and that Daniel is in a lot of pain. &nbsp;Managing Daniel’s pain is the most important thing to the Moore family right now. &nbsp;According to Jerica, they are trying to get Daniel into a treatment center in Arizona.&nbsp;“It's in Scottsdale, Arizona,” Jerica said.&nbsp;“They do holistic, so they do not take any type of&nbsp;insurance because the insurance companies, they&nbsp;can tell you how to do your treatment plans and stuff.” &nbsp;“That's what I'm raising money for is to get him down there, because it's anywhere from, I mean upfront cost is anywhere from $8,000 to $16,000 and then the additional treatments can be anywhere from $40,000 to $100,000.” &nbsp;Imperial Nutrition, described as a healthy alternative to&nbsp;fast food,&nbsp;will be holding a “Moore Family Day” all day at the restaurant on Friday, Dec. 30, to support the Moore family. &nbsp; A portion of sales from a specific tea on Imperial Nutrition’s menu, and tips, will go directly&nbsp;to the Moore family. Donations will be accepted as well.&nbsp;“I want to do it and help them out any way I can,” Kenzie Lyons, owner of Imperial Nutrition and a friend of the Moore family, said. “If I can help in any way I can, I want to.” &nbsp;Anyone who orders the Tidal Wave tea will be helping the Moore family. &nbsp;“It was really popular, so I decided to bring it back,” Lyons said. &nbsp;Lyons said Jerica is a big supporter of her store and has been from the beginning, so she was more than happy to reach out and use her business to help the Moore family. &nbsp; “Overwhelmed, but it's a good overwhelmed,” Jerica explained how she felt when Imperial Nutrition approached her.&nbsp;“I feel like you know we're not in this alone, is what I feel like.” &nbsp;Jerica has already been raising funds on a gofundme page, dedicated to Daniel. &nbsp;Jerica is also making and selling shirts to raise money for Daniel. &nbsp;&nbsp;The shirts are $25 each, from small to extra-large, and $27 for larger sizes.&nbsp;Then on Jan. 3, Spangles in Hutchinson will donate 20% of sales to the Moore family and 100% of donations from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. &nbsp;Additionally, the Moore family’s motorcycle club, Deceived Souls,&nbsp;will be holding a fish fry fundraiser dinner&nbsp;on Jan. 7 at the Hutchinson-based&nbsp;clubhouse. &nbsp;Plates are $14 with two sides and a drink. &nbsp;The event will run from noon until food runs out. &nbsp;Currently, the Moore family has raised nearly $6,000, but the entire ordeal they are facing has already cost them more than $50,000.&nbsp;Jerica and Daniel Moore have a blended family with seven children — two are at home.&nbsp;“One of those is actually our nephew that we are getting ready to adopt, within, I think, it's going to be the next three months,” Jerica said. “We're getting ready to adopt our&nbsp;nephew and this is happening.” &nbsp;The Moore family is looking for a miracle. &nbsp;&nbsp;“That's where I came up with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/moorethanmiracles">#moorethanmiracles</a>,” Jerica said. “I feel like that's&nbsp;what we need right now is a miracle.” &nbsp;The <a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/472411548403545/?acontext=%7B%22event_action_history%22%3A[%7B%22surface%22%3A%22home%22%7D%2C%7B%22mechanism%22%3A%22search_results%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22search%22%7D]%2C%22ref_notif_type%22%3Anull%7D" target="_blank">Moore Family Day event</a>&nbsp;is Dec. 30 at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.facebook.com/nutritionimperial/" target="_blank">Imperial Nutrition</a>, 2420 N.
