HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Members of the Reno County Commission, local school districts, and the health department presented the Medicine Shoppe a Certificate of Appreciation at a vaccination clinic this past Sunday, March 21.

Reno County Commission Chair Ron Hirst thanked Rick Stone and The Medicine Shoppe for their efforts in vaccinating Reno County school teachers and staff.&nbsp;

This was the second dose clinic for education staff, which included K-12 and community college employees. The first clinic was held Feb. 28 after The Medicine Shoppe received 1,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The Medicine Shoppe collaborated with the health department and local school districts to create a distribution plan that utilized school nurses and volunteers.

Medicine Shoppe recognized for vaccination efforts

TROPHY CLUB, Texas –&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2020-21/bios/crockett_charlie_7tfw">Charlie Crockett</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2020-21/bios/crockett_harry_uzwd">Harry Crockett</a>&nbsp;both posted round of 2-under 70 on Monday to lead the No. 2-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team during a rain-shortened Texas A&amp;M-Commerce Lion Classic.

The tournament was delayed for more than four hours on Monday because of lighting. Played resumed at 3 p.m. and the first round was completed. Because of the weather on Monday, tournament has been cut to 36 holes. The final round will tee off at 9 a.m. at Trophy Club's Hogan Course.

Thanks to the Crockett brothers, the Blue Dragons are within striking distance of the team title. Hutchinson shot a 1-over 289 on Monday, which is two shots off the team lead of Texas A&amp;M International, which shot 287. Midwestern State shot even-par 288 on Monday.

Earlier on Monday the NJCAA released its Division I Golf Rankings. The Blue Dragons dropped a spot to No. 2. Hutchinson is tied with Odessa for second. Midland took over the top spot.

EL DORADO – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team couldn't overcome 21 attack errors, 13 service errors and numerous service reception issued in a four-set Jayhawk West loss to Butler on Monday afternoon at the Power Plant.

Hutchinson struggled in a 19-25, 25-15, 19-25, 23-25 loss to the Grizzlies, Hutchinson's second-straight loss at the Power Plant.

The Blue Dragons fall to 17-9 overall and 10-6 in the Jayhawk West. While currently in third place, both fourth-place Colby and fifth-place Garden City both have three matches remaining and both could surpass Hutchinson and knock the Dragons out of the top 4 in the league. Region VI Pairings will be released this weekend and the opening round will be on Tuesday March 30 at the home sites of the top four teams in the Jayhawk West.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/thorne_jenna_xncq">Jenna Thorne</a>&nbsp;had a team-high 12 kills, but only four kills in the final two sets. Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/head_kristina_5dlc">Kristina Head</a>&nbsp;had eight kills and five total blocks. Blue Dragon Volleyball drops 4 setter to Butler

New
Hutchinson Community College football coach Drew Dallas has been waiting for
more than a year to coach his first game.

When
the Blue Dragons and Coffeyville finally meet Friday night at Gowans Stadium,
Dallas’ first game will be as the head coach of the preseason No. 1 team in the
NJCAA Football Rankings.

Released
on Monday, the Blue Dragons were atop the 2021 national rankings for the first
time in program history. 

This is
only the second time in team history the Blue Dragons are No. 1 in the national
rankings. Hutchinson spent five weeks at No. 1 in the 2019 season, a year where
the Dragons finished 10-2 and ranked No. 3 in the final NJCAA poll.

Hutchinson,
Iowa Western, Lackawanna, Kilgore and Garden City make up the Top 5. The Blue
Dragons and Reivers won’t play this season with the shorted eight-game season
because of Coronavirus protocols.&nbsp;
Hutchinson and Garden City were tied in the Jayhawk Conference preseason
coaches’ poll.

Hutchinson
secured three of the six first-place votes. Iowa Western, Lackawanna and Butler
each received one first-place vote.

Butler
is No. 7 and Independence is No. 9 in the preseason rankings. Coffeyville was
receiving votes. 

The
Blue Dragons open the new season on Friday against the Red Ravens at 7 p.m. at

🏈 Blue Dragon Football are No. 1 in NJCAA Preseason Poll


HUTCHINSON,
Kan. —&nbsp; After missing the 2020 awards program because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hutchinson Community Foundation’s annual spring ceremony returned Thursday evening to Chester I. Lewis Plaza.

Nine area nonprofit organizations received a total of $16,500 in Changemakers at Work Grants as part of the evening’s Third Thursday festivities. Changemakers at Work Grants are small funds available to Reno County residents and organizations working on projects that spark community spirit and pride, build social capital, and create opportunities for positive changes that strengthen the county.

“After the pandemic forced the cancellation of our 2020 awards ceremony and then limited this year’s meetings to Zoom, being able to gather for these awards and other fun activities was exhilarating, and I think we all truly felt that connection to community we’ve been craving this past year,” said Sarah Blake, Hutchinson Community Foundation program officer.

This year’s awards ranged from $1,150 to $2,500. The grants are supported by the Fund for Hutchinson, the foundation’s unrestricted fund for the ever-changing needs of Reno County.

Grants were awarded by the community foundation’s Changemakers at Work Grants Committee made up of board members and Reno County volunteers selected through an application process. This is the second year of including residents through the application process. Members of the 2021 committee are Loretta Deiker, retired educator and Reno County Food Bank volunteer; Stephfon Hunter, student and leader at Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Hutchinson; Jeff Johnson, Hutch Rec community events coordinator; Peggy Ruebke, Nickerson mayor and volunteer firefighter; Dazia Simms, student and member of NAACP Youth and Hutchinson Community Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Council; Esmeralda Tovar-Mora, board member; Nicole Waggoner, People’s Bank and Trust; Michelle Waln, board member; Kian Williams, student and Hutchinson’s Youth Council chair; and Calvin Wright, board member.

Last year’s committee members were Kelsi Depew, Seth Dewey, Michelle Inskeep, Jenna Lightsey, Kara Malloy, Arthur Pina, Jon Richardson and Jason Steele.

“Involving a new group of community volunteers in our grant-making process these past two years has been a successful experiment and has really confirmed our belief that the ‘wisdom is in the room,’” Blake said. “We’ve been able to connect with terrific folks who have hearts for Reno County and want to build on community assets and continue making positive changes so more folks feel connected. That’s what this grant cycle is all about.”

City of Plevna, Community Playground Picnic Table Shelter, $2,500: Funds will help provide a shelter for picnic tables at the town’s community center.

Graber Elementary, Growing Graber, $1,500: This project will strengthen the school’s existing outdoor classroom, providing a continued space for staff, students and families to come together to learn about nature, community pride and the power of collaboration. Funds will be used for gardening supplies, a tower garden, pond chemicals and maintenance, and food for wildlife.

Heartland Arts &amp; Culture Collective, Podcast Network, $1,150: Heartland Arts &amp; Culture Collective, in partnership with Salt City Sound, will increase community pride and engagement by creating a podcast network for arts and cultural content. The inaugural project will share news important to Hutchinson residents, include interviews with local guests and highlight upcoming community events.

Hutch in Harmony, Chester I. Lewis Plaza Art, $1,500: Funds will help with the costs of providing plaques under pieces of artwork at Chester I. Lewis Plaza. They would explain the scenes depicted and the history of Lewis’ contributions to the civil rights movement so that all who visit the plaza are able to celebrate his work for the community and the entire country.

Hutchinson Art Association, Virtual Kids Art Camp, $2,000: In response to the pandemic, the art center's virtual art camp is intended to fill the current gap in children’s art education and ease teachers’ burdens as online educators. Free art supplies will be available to children who wish to participate but for whom costs would be prohibitive.

Hutchinson Municipal Band, Making Space of the Arts in Carey Park, $2,000: In partnership with the city and with the support of Reno/Hutchinson Arts and Humanities Council and the Hutchinson Community College Music Department, the municipal band will create a simplistic, flexible performing space in Carey Park between the zoo and the Homebuilder’s Shelter for municipal band concerts and experimentation of other public outdoor performance gatherings in Carey Park.

Reno County Historical Society, People of Reno County Video Series, $1,850: This project will celebrate Hutchinson and Reno County’s 150th anniversaries by honoring our community and its citizens through engaging videos that put a new spin on collecting and sharing oral histories. Funds will help with the purchase of equipment needed for quality filming and sound recording.

Salt City Pickleball Group, Outdoor Pickleball Court Enhancement, $2,500: Funds will allow for effective lights on the outdoor courts being renovated at Rice Park so community members can gather even after dark to play pickleball, a sport growing in popularity in Reno County and across the country. 

SculptureArtWalk, Paint the Town Beautiful, $1,500: SculptureArtWalk will continue its focus on enhancing community pride by working closely with the public on a new, collaborative mural in the downtown Hutchinson area.

Hutchinson Community Foundation’s mission is to inspire philanthropy, collaboration and innovative leadership to strengthen Reno County communities. Since 1989, the foundation has granted more than $86 million to organizations.

Kan. —&nbsp; After missing the 2020 awards program because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hutchinson Community Foundation’s annual spring ceremony returned Thursday evening to Chester I. Lewis Plaza.Nine area nonprofit organizations received a total of $16,500 in Changemakers at Work Grants as part of the evening’s Third Thursday festivities. Hutch CF awards more than $16K in grants

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2020-21/bios/reetz_will_n5g4">Will Reetz</a>&nbsp;dropped a single to shallow right field to score&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2020-21/bios/lowe_mason_k4ea">Mason Lowe</a>&nbsp;for a walk-off victory on Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field, giving the Hutchinson Community College baseball team a second-straight Jayhawk West series victory.

Reetz's walk-off hit gave the Blue Dragons a 7-6 victory over the Saints in the series finale. Seward County won the first game on Saturday 11-7. The Dragons won the series 3-1 after winning a pair in Liberal on Friday.

The Blue Dragons are now 11-7 overall and are in first place in the Jayhawk West at 6-2. The Saints are 6-12 overall and 3-5 in the Jayhawk West. The Blue Dragons play host to Redlands in a pair of seven innings games on Tuesday at Hobart-Detter Field.

GAME 2 RECAP Hutchinson had leads of 4-3 and 6-4 late in the final game of the series. Seward County rallied to tie the game twice to tie the game at 4-4 and 6-6 heading to the bottom of the ninth.

⚾ Blue Dragon walk off claims series win over Saints

For the second time this season, the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team rallied from at least a 15-point deficit to win a game.

The latest comeback victory came with first place in the Jayhawk West on the line against archrival Seward County as the No. 22-ranked Blue Dragons defeated the Saints 78-76 in a Jayhawk West thriller.

The Blue Dragons (15-3) maintain sole possession of first place in the Jayhawk West at 14-3. Hutchinson has a 1.5 game lead over Barton and a two-game lead over Seward County with four games remaining in the regular season. Hutchinson plays at Pratt on Wednesday.

Seward County started the game hitting 10 of its first 14 shots and took a game-high 15-point lead when a Sydney Wetlaufer steal and layup for a 26-11 lead with 2:09 remaining in the opening quarter. The Saints led 26-17 after one quarter and 37-26 at halftime.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2020-21/bios/gore_lojong_i68o">Lojong Gore</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2020-21/bios/ervin_kalyn_foze">Kalyn Ervin</a>&nbsp;combined for 13 points in the third quarter as Hutchinson outscored Seward County 23-15 in the period and got within 50-49 after a Gore offensive rebound and outback with 29 seconds to play in the third quarter. Wetlaufer's putback with 13 seconds left gave Seward County a 52-49 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

The Blue Dragons tied the game at 56, 58 and 60 in the fourth quarter and grabbed a 63-60 lead when&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2020-21/bios/suttington_ishante_gbs8">Ishante Suttington</a>&nbsp;snared an offensive rebound off a missed fourth quarter and found Ervin for a wide-open 3-pointer with 7:00 to play in the fourth quarter.

The Saints tied the game at 69 on a Sierra Morrow 3-pointer and then led 71-69 on a Morrow bucket inside the paint with 2:24 to play. The Blue Dragons answered with two&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2020-21/bios/ogle_kate_kntm">Kate Ogle</a>&nbsp;free throws with 2:06 remaining and then took a 73-71 lead on a K.K Adams steal and layup with 1:40 to play. Seward County tied the game at 73 on a Sierra Lynch short floater in the lane with 1:22 to play.

The Blue Dragons grabbed the lead for good on a&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2020-21/bios/alford_tor-e_j660">Tor'e Alford</a>&nbsp;jumper with 52 seconds left. Ervin then made two of the biggest plays of the final second, getting a steal with 37 seconds left and then snitching away an offensive rebound from Hulda Joakim. Suttington was fouled with 5.5 seconds remaining and she hit two free throws for a 77-73 lead.

The game wasn't quite clinched yet. After a Saints time out and advancement to the front court, Morrow hit a 3-pointer with 2.8 seconds to play to cut the Dragon lead to 77-76. Suttington was fouled with 1.7 seconds left and hit the first of two free throws for a two-point lead. The second free throw was missed, but the Saints weren't able to fire a final shot before the buzzer sounded.

Ogle led the Blue Dragons with 18 points with six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots to lead Hutchinson. Ogle was 6 of 6 from the free-throw line.

Gore had 16 points and nine rebounds. Suttington finished with 12 points and eight rebounds with four assists. Ervin and Adams had nine points each and Alford had eight points.

The Blue Dragons shot 27 of 65 overall (41.5 percent), hitting 5 of 17 from 3-point range and 19 of 25 from the free-throw line. The Dragons had 17 turnovers, only five in the second half and out-rebounded Seward County 43-28.

Morrow, who had 39 against Hutchinson in the first meeting a 41 on Friday against Cloud County, finished with a game-high 22 points to lead the Saints. Lynch had 18 points and eight assists.

Seward County shot 30 of 64 from the field (46.9 percent), hitting 10 of 32 from the 3-point line and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.

Blue Dragon Woman rally to win thriller over Saints

Phyllis Marie Johnson, 82, of Little River, died March 16, 2021, at her home. She was born May 25, 1938, in Lindsborg, to Dale and Iola (Hall) Harris.

Phyllis graduated from Marquette High School and attended Brown Mackie College in Salina. She was a quilt-master and loved sewing doll clothes. Phyllis gifted lots of homemade items to people over the years. She enjoyed dancing every Saturday night with Uvon and they enjoyed socializing with friends everywhere. Above all, Phyllis loved spending time with her family.

On September 8, 1956, she married Uvon D. Johnson, in Marquette. Together they raised three children on the family farm.

YODER, Kan. — The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center graduated the 275th basic training class on Friday.&nbsp;

Sen. Jerry Moran gave the keynote address during the ceremony held at KLETC near Yoder.&nbsp;

The class president for the 275th basic training class was Deputy Eli Miller of the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office. Miller is a former Hutchinson Community College student.

Deputy Miller’s career started at the Pottawatomie County Jail. He worked there for a year until he applied to become a deputy at the Pottawatomie Sheriff’s Office.&nbsp;

Miller majored in accounting at HutchCC and participated in football and track for the Blue Dragons.

HutchCC, Seward to play solo women's game Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

With one victory over nationally ranked Seward County in the bank, the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team on the ropes again Thursday night at the Sports Arena.

Up a set and with five set points in hand in the second, the Blue Dragons couldn't close out the Saints and ultimately dropped a four-set Jayhawk West battle in Hutchinson's final regular-season home match of 2021.

Seward County rallied to defeat Hutchinson 19-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-21. The Blue Dragons fall to 17-8 overall and 10-5 in the Jayhawk West. No. 9 Seward County is now 16-4 overall and 11-1 in the league.

Hutchinson got off to a great start as&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/thorne_jenna_xncq">Jenna Thorne</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/briggs_shadee_xm04">Shadee Briggs</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/murrell_shelby_tlgr">Shelby Murrell</a>&nbsp;combined for 11 kills and the Blue Dragons had three team blocks and two aces in a 25-20 first-set win. A&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/price_chloe_rbgs">Chloe Price</a>&nbsp;kill, a Price ace and Taegan Larsen kill gave the Blue Dragons a 24-18 lead in the second set. Seward County turned the tables as that point by scoring the final eight points of the set to even the match and one set each.

From that point, the Saints got its Jayhawk Conference No. 1 offense cranked up and sided out at a 70-percent clip over the third and fourth sets. The combination of Ariana Arciniaga, Ana Brangioni, Seyun Park and Gabriella Badilla combined for 28 kills in the final two sets. The Blue Dragons combined for only 17 kills in sets 3 and 4.

The Blue Dragons were led by Thorne's 16 kills. She also had two solo blocks and 12 digs.

Larsen and Murrell had eight kills each.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2020-21/bios/head_kristina_5dlc">Kristina Head</a>&nbsp;finished with six kills and 11 total digs. Briggs finished with six kills.

Price finished with 38 set assists, six block assists, eight digs, three kills and two aces. Libero Shelby Briggs finished with 23 digs.

Arciniaga had 16 kills to lead Seward County. Park had 14 kills, Badilla had 13 and Brangioni had nine kills.

The first set had four ties and a lead change in the first 23 rallies. The Saints led 9-7 when a Murrell kill, Seward double-hit violation and a Price kill gave the Dragons a 10-9 lead. With the Dragons leading 14-13, Briggs had a pair of aces in a six-point service run to lead 20-13. The Saints scored 7 of the next 9 points and the Dragon lead was cut to 22-20. The Dragons closed out the first set on consecutive kills by Thorne, Briggs and Murrell.

The Dragons called an early second-set timeout trailing 8-4, but turned the set around with a 7-1 run. Price's setter dump capped the run and gave the Dragons an 11-9 lead. Leading 16-14, Head and Price and two double blocks and Thorne two kills to up the Dragon lead to 20-14. Then Price had a kill and ace and Larsen had a kill to make it 24-18 Hutchinson. Arciniaga started the comeback with a kill and the Saints scored eight in a row to stun the Dragons in a 26-24 win, evening the match.

🏐 Blue Dragon Volleyball falls in 4 to No. 9 Saints

The City of Hutchinson has hired its permanent Human Relations Officer.

"There was an extended effort that involved numerous community stakeholders, city staff, elected officials," said City Manager Jeff Cantrell. "Ultimately, came up with David Sotelo, who had been performing in the interim role, doing a fine job of it. We're pleased to announce that he will be the full-time HRO for the City of Hutch."

The Human Relations Officer's position has changed considerably in recent years.

"That position now has a lot more to do with community outreach than in might have had in the past in a part-time capacity," Cantrell said. "The majority of the effort of the position will involve community outreach, but certainly there will be a component of that position that investigates complaints community-wide."

The search committee really liked Sotelo's background and experience.

"They valued his knowledge of the community and the fact that he was previously involved with the Human Relations Commission and city staff in various departments. I believe that he had some additional outside organization involvement here in the community, as well."

The salary for the position will be $55,990 and will be subject to future increases based on completion of the required college degree. Sotelo will start full-time April 12.

Six
players scored in double figures as the Hutchinson Community College men’s
basketball team and the Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team
extended its winning streak to eight games Wednesday night at the Sports Arena.

The
Blue Dragons broke the 100-point mark for the second-consecutive games,
defeating the Northwest Tech Mavericks 101-85 in a Jayhawk West matchup.

Hutchinson
improved to 13-3 overall and maintained its three-game lead in the Jayhawk West
over Dodge City. The Conquistadors needed two overtimes to defeat Seward County
on Wednesday to stay three games behind the Blue Dragons.

The
last time the Blue Dragons had back-to-back games breaking the century mark in
consecutive games was November 2018 when Hutchinson had three-straight games of
100-plus points.

The
Blue Dragons shot 50 percent in the first half (17 of 34) I building a 45-35
lead. 

Chris
Robinson led six players in double figures with 19 points to go with four
rebounds and three assists. 

Josh
Baker had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists. Jaden Okon just missed a
double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Matt
Mayers’ streak of consecutive double-doubles at nine with 12 points and nine
rebounds. Majok Kuath had 12 points and Isaiah Bujdoso had 11 points and seven assists.

The
Blue Dragons shot 49.3 percent for the game (34 of 69), hitting 3 of 7 from
3-point range and 30 of 37 from the foul line. Five different Blue Dragons had
at last four free throws led by Baker, who went 8 for 9).

The
Dragons out-rebounded Northwest Tech 51-27 and survived 19 turnovers.

Arthur
Cox had a game-high 20 points to lead the Mavericks. Jacari Chambers had 17
points and Malik Lacewell had 15 points.

The
Mavericks shot 30 of 70 from the field (42.9 percent), hitting 12 of 23 from
3-point range and 13 of 19 from the free-throw line.

Blue Dragon Men extend win streak to 8; topple NW Ks Tech

The
Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team used balanced offense,
stellar defense and got some help from afar to have a successful Wednesday
night.

Four
players scored in double figures as the Blue Dragon defense held its 12th
opponent to less than 40 percent shooting as No. 22 Hutchinson swept the season
series with Northwest Tech, defeating the Mavericks 71-52 at the Sports Arena.

The
Blue Dragons improved to 14-3 overall and 13-3 in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson
increased its Jayhawk West lead to 1.5 games after Garden City upset Barton on
Wednesday in Great Bend. Hutchinson plays host to Seward County on Saturday in
the Sports Arena.

Sophomore
Tor’e Alford scored a team-high 15 points to lead the Blue Dragons. She hit
three 3-pointers and added four rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead
the Blue Dragons. 

Ishante
Suttington had 12 points. Lojong Gore posted her fifth double-double with 12
points and 10 rebounds and Kalyn Ervin with 10 points. 

The
Blue Dragons shot 23 of 48 from the field (46.9 percent), going 11 of 25 from
3-point range and 14 of 18 from the free-throw line. The Dragons out-rebounded
Northwest Tech 36-23 and had 19 assists on 23 made baskets. 

Northwest
Tech shot 32.7 percent from the field (16 of 49), going 8 of 28 from long range
and 11 of 12 from the foul line. 

Chloe
Andrew had 16 points with four 3-pointers. Yverline DeSilva had 13 points. 

The
Blue Dragons shot 53.8 percent from the field in the first quarter, outscoring
the Mavericks 24-15 after the first quarter. Gore scored 10 points in the first
half on 4 of 4 shooting. The Dragons extended the lead to 40-25 at halftime and
55-36 after three quarters.

HUTCHINSON – Hutchinson Community College will be hosting its Career Connections Job Fair Thursday, April 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. 

Seventy-six area employers have registered to attend seeking employees for full-time, part-time and internship opportunities. Career Fair at HutchCC April 1

Ervin Lee Horton, 93, passed away March 13, 2021, at his residence.&nbsp; He was born April 6, 1927, in Great Bend, to Charles Ellsworth and Hattie Ivy (Watters) Horton.

Ervin attended public schools in Great Bend and Nickerson. He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947, being stationed in Germany during World War II. Ervin graduated from barber college in Oklahoma City, OK, on March 12, 1948. He owned and operated barber shops in Dodge City, Montezuma, Satanta, and Hutchinson, retiring with over 50 years of service.

Ervin loved to sing and enjoyed his time as a member of the Hutchinson Salt Minors Barbershop Chorus. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On May 28, 1947, Ervin married Margaret Ellen Warn, in Ashland. They shared over 48 years of marriage, prior to her death on Nov. 23, 1995. He then married Nancy Ruth Johnson Schweizer, on March 4, 1997, in Newton. They shared over 24 years of marriage.

Ervin is survived by wife, Nancy Horton of Hutchinson; daughters, Teri (Ed) Schriner, Karla (Mel) Limon, and Lu Crow; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; stepchildren,&nbsp; Jodi (Les) Coleman, Scott (Amber) Schweizer, and Holly (Scott) Lindbloom; 12 stepgrandchildren; and 5 step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; brother, Charles; sister, Goldie; daughter, Rena; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2021, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 518 E. 43rd, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson. Military honors will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021, with the family present, at the church.
