HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Landfill Director Megan Davidson reported to the Reno County Commission Tuesday on the amount of debris they received in connection to the Cottonwood Complex fire.

Davidson says that the landfill has taken in nearly 2.9 million pounds of debris including 2.7 million pounds of structural and content debris and another 180,000 pounds of tree limbs and other similar debris. The debris is being placed in a designated spot in the landfill so it can be monitored. The landfill delayed accepting items for two weeks following the March 5th fire to make sure they had time to cool off and would not pose a problem later.

The fire destroyed 35 homes along with 90 outbuildings and more than 100 vehicles.

If you'd still like to help, there is a bull riding event in Mt. Hope on Saturday to benefit fire victims.
