HUTCHINSON, Kan.: (Transcript from KWBW Sports) 7:10am on BW Radio, time to turn to sports, 5th year senior Keyontae Johnson was honored for the second time this season as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week as he had an impressive performance in key states win over Nebraska in the Wildcat Classic. Johnson played perhaps his best all around game and helping K-State move to 10 and 1 and extend their best start to a season since the 2016-17 season. He had a game high in Points 23 and also 11 rebounds. The first Wildcat captured Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, twice in the same season since Dean Wade did it two times in the 2015 season. He turned out to be pretty good.

Top 25 AP basketball poll shows Kansas moves up to number four, Texas seven,  Baylor is number twelve. TCU is number Twenty.

Based on current standings, the Chiefs are in position to potentially host a divisional round game at field at Arrowhead. Tickets for the potential game go on sale tomorrow. Jackson County residents get the first crack at tickets with a pre-sale available from 8 a.m. until 9:30 am. Tickets for everyone else are available at 11 a.m.. Wednesday, December the 21st.

One of the top high school seniors in Kansas says he's going to Kansas. Eudora High's Jaden Hamm decommitted from Arkansas this weekend, shortly after making a visit to the Jayhawks. Hamm is a tight end, rated as the sixth best player in Kansas. Hamm is the second top ten player from the state to commit to CU Lawrence. Free state offensive lineman Calvin Clements recently changed his commitment from Baylor to KU as well.

Kansas offensive coordinator Andy Cottle. Nikki confirmed Monday that he has agreed to a contract extension with KU. He agreed to a contract that extends his contract five years. That'll keep the talented coordinator under contract with KU through the 2027 season. Terms not disclosed.

The news are on the heels of Lance Leipold agreeing to a new contract that keeps him in Lawrence through the 2029 season. Royals closing in on another veteran pitcher to add their young pitching corps. The second edition in a week right handed starting pitcher Jordan Lyles, who's 32 and the royals close to inking a two year deal that's according to MLB.com registered a 12 and 11 record with a 4.42 era with 144 strikeouts. Just 52 walks in, 32 starts. That's 179 innings for Baltimore last season. His 179 innings pitched surpassed Brady Singer's royals, leading total by more than 25 innings point. The Royals need some additional starting pitching.
