Two outstanding Kansas youth were recognized at the Kansas State Fair for their agricultural knowledge and leadership, as Emily Hare or Buhler High School and Ethan Petersilie of LaCrosse High School tied for first place in the 2025 Ag Challenge of Champions.
The statewide competition, hosted by the Kansas Fairs & Festivals Association, brought together top 4-H and FFA members to test their expertise through livestock breed identification, crop and weed recognition, meat cuts, feed analysis, and a comprehensive written exam on agriculture.

Hare and Petersilie emerged from a competitive field, earning identical top scores. Organizers say their performance reflects not only academic excellence, but also a deep commitment to the future of Kansas agriculture.
As a result of their achievement, both winners will receive a $3,000 scholarship to support continued education and leadership development.
“The Challenge of Champions is designed to spotlight the best and brightest in Kansas youth agriculture,” said event coordinator Ty Lewick. “Emily and Ethan exemplify the passion, intelligence, and work ethic that will drive the industry forward.”
The Ag Challenge of Champions is held annually in partnership with the Kansas State Fair.
