As Kansas and much of rural America struggles with growing healthcare shortages—particularly in primary care—Fort Hays State University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is preparing the next generation of clinical leaders to fill the gap.

Nationwide, nearly 70 percent of federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) are in rural regions, where only about 11 percent of the nation’s physicians practice, despite 20 percent of the population residing there. The American Association of Medical Colleges predicts a shortage of up to 86,000 physicians by 2036, with most continuing to concentrate in urban areas, further deepening the crisis for rural communities—especially in Kansas, where many counties are considered "healthcare deserts."

To combat this, FHSU's DNP program focuses on training family nurse practitioners equipped to deliver primary care in underserved rural communities. Students are prepared not just to provide care across the lifespan but also to take on roles in healthcare leadership, policy, and academia—positions often inaccessible to nurses trained at the master’s level.

“The DNP is really about taking patient care to the next level,” said Dr. Michelle Van Der Wege, DNP Program Coordinator at FHSU. “It prepares nurses not just for clinical practice, but for leadership roles that can drive meaningful change in health systems, especially in communities where access is limited.”

A key distinction of FHSU’s DNP program is the emphasis on rural healthcare experience. Each student completes at least 225 clinical hours in a Kansas community with fewer than 10,000 residents. This real-world immersion helps students understand the unique needs of underserved areas, from chronic disease management to overcoming cultural and social barriers to care.

The four-year program includes 900 clinical hours and an additional 600 hours dedicated to the DNP Project—an in-depth initiative that helps students apply evidence-based research to real-world practice, often resulting in measurable improvements to patient care.

Graduates like Dr. Michelle "Shelli" Dreiling, a 2023 alum now practicing at Hutchinson Clinic, credit the program’s strong rural focus for shaping their career paths. “I thought I knew what I wanted, but my rural clinical experience changed that,” Dreiling said. “Now I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be—and helping train the next wave of DNP nurses.”

The program graduates approximately a dozen students each year, many of whom remain in or return to rural Kansas communities to practice. Dr. Van Der Wege is one of them. A native of Russell, she started her healthcare career as an EMT and now splits her time between serving patients at a clinic in Larned and shaping future DNP graduates. She’s earned every nursing degree offered by FHSU—from associate's to doctorate.

“Healthcare is personal in rural communities,” she said. “If we don’t train people to serve those communities, they’ll continue to be left behind.”

BUHLER, Kan. — With the holiday season approaching and many families feeling the effects of rising costs and reduced benefits, Buhler USD 313 is stepping up to support its school community through a new charitable initiative.

Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 4, Buhler Schools will collect “Meal in a Bag” donations to help provide food support for families facing financial strain. The district is encouraging families and community members who are able to contribute to donate a complete meal kit, which includes simple, shelf-stable ingredients for a family dinner. “We know that many individuals and families in our school community are feeling the strain of rising costs, reduced benefits, and the upcoming holiday season,” Superintendent Cindy Couchman said in a facebook post. “During times like these, the strength of our Buhler community truly shines when we come together to care for one another.”

Donations can be dropped off at any Buhler school, the district office, or sent with students through Thanksgiving break. The collected meal kits will be distributed to families who have requested assistance through a confidential internal survey.

The program also connects families in need with additional food resources and local support services listed in the district’s online materials.

The MAT program prepares graduates for K–6 licensure in both elementary general education and special education—earning an Elementary Education Unified (K-6) license in just 34–36 credit hours. Students benefit from K-State’s nationally ranked education program, recently recognized by U.S. News &amp; World Report as one of the top 20 online education master’s degrees in the nation.

Designed for those seeking a second career in education, the MAT offers an affordable and convenient path toward teaching. All students pay in-state tuition, regardless of residency, and more than 70% receive financial assistance through scholarships like the K-State Online Scholarship.

Students can complete the program in as little as 16 months or work at their own pace while taking courses online. The MAT also provides two distinct tracks:

Practitioner Track: For students already teaching full-time under a Limited Elementary Residency Program (LERP) License.

License-Seeking Track: For students preparing to enter the classroom for the first time.&nbsp;

Each student is paired with a GradCat — a master teacher who provides mentorship, coaching, and evaluation throughout the program.

K-State's MAT offers pathway to teaching

The Hutchinson USD 308 Board of Education held its regular meeting Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, at the district’s Administration Center, where members heard updates from Superintendent Dr. Dawn Johnson, approved several key action items, and entered executive session for legal and personnel matters.

During her report, Superintendent Dr. Dawn Johnson shared a message of gratitude and encouragement to district staff, recognizing their continued dedication to students and families. She acknowledged that the weeks leading up to the upcoming bond vote can be challenging and urged staff not to let online negativity overshadow the positive work happening daily in classrooms.

The board approved minutes from the Oct. 13 regular meeting and the Oct. 17 special meeting, along with two key action items:

The district’s Professional Development Plan, presented by Human Resources Director Julie Schrum, which aligns with Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA) standards.

Replacement of a rooftop unit (RTU) at the Hutchinson Career and Technical Education Academy (HCTEA) for $94,624.

Under the superintendent’s consent agenda, the board approved: •&nbsp; The September 2025 Treasurer’s Report •&nbsp; The annual Lightspeed Renewal for $21,129.29. •&nbsp; Various grants and gifts to schools supporting district programs

Upon returning to open session, members approved the personnel report as presented before adjourning.

The largest college and career planning event in Kansas is back and ready to help students chart their post-high school futures.

The ESSDACK Career Planning Expo will take place on Wednesday, October 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and again on Thursday, October 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson.&nbsp;

With over 5,000 students attending the two-day event last year, ESSDACK says the expo is designed to be “the perfect place to start exploring their post-high school futures.”

Kansas State University has established the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.k-state.edu/engagement/innovation-and-partnerships/interdisciplinary-institutes/community-health-and-wellbeing/">Institute for Community Health and Well-being</a>, a new initiative designed to address the pressing challenges facing Kansas communities while advancing the university's land-grant mission of research and engagement that serve the state.

Rural Kansas communities face a multitude of challenges, including population decline, health disparities, limited access to health care, housing shortages, child care needs and digital divides. The Institute for Community Health and Well-being brings together K-State's broad expertise — spanning agriculture, education, public health, engineering, business, architecture and social sciences — to design and implement coordinated, evidence-based solutions that strengthen communities across the state.

"Kansas communities are resilient, but they need support to thrive," said Susan Metzger, director of strategic interdisciplinary program development. "The institute leverages K-State's tremendous talent and presence throughout the state. By connecting our faculty expertise with community needs and coordinating our efforts, we can have a far greater impact than working in isolation. That is One K-State in action."

The institute — backed by initial funding from the&nbsp;One K-State Strategic Investment Fund&nbsp;— will be at the forefront of driving progress for the&nbsp;Next-Gen K-State strategic plan, which identified&nbsp;Community Health and Well-being&nbsp;as a core opportunity area. In recognizing that economic prosperity depends on the health and well-being of Kansas communities, the institute also directly supports the Kansas Board of Regents'&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kansasregents.gov/about/building-a-future">Building a Future strategic plan</a>.

The institute convenes interdisciplinary faculty and community partners to co-design projects addressing local needs. Through the institute, the faculty and community partners will conduct collaborative research, connect communities with proven practices, provide technical assistance and grant writing support, and engage students in applied learning experiences.

K-State's presence in all 105 Kansas counties, combined with existing interdisciplinary research expertise, positions the university to deliver coordinated solutions that build on established relationships and expertise.

"We're not starting from scratch," said Marshall Stewart, K-State's executive vice president for external engagement and chief of staff. "We have faculty, extension staff and community partners already doing this work across the state. The institute creates the framework to align these efforts, share resources and amplify impact."

The institute's work will involve close collaboration with K-State's&nbsp;Economic Development&nbsp;team and external partners, including the Kansas Health Foundation. Through the institute, local communities will have access to faculty support to assist with grant writing and collaborative projects, and some local initiatives will receive small community grants.

By engaging students in applied learning experiences alongside faculty and community partners, the institute addresses immediate challenges and prepares the next generation of leaders in public health, rural education, community development and public service.

"Our students see firsthand how research translates into real-world solutions," Metzger said. "Many go on to build their careers serving the communities they've worked with. That's powerful."

The institute's approach focuses on creating measurable change at multiple levels:

Short-term: K-State faculty, staff and students have increased awareness of rural community needs; community leaders gain insights from research-informed practices.

Medium-term: Communities implement evidence-based strategies to improve health, housing, food access, childcare and digital connectivity; external funding and partner investments expand.

Long-term: Health disparities are reduced, community wellness indicators are improved, and K-State is a national leader in community-engaged research and rural well-being.

The institute advances K-State's commitment to being a leader in community-engaged scholarship while addressing the most pressing challenges facing rural America. It demonstrates the responsibility of a land-grant university to leverage its expertise, presence and partnerships to create sustainable, measurable improvements in community health and prosperity.

"This is what land-grant universities are meant to do," Stewart said. "We're here to solve problems that matter to the people we serve. The Institute for Community Health and Well-being embodies that commitment."

K-State has committed $500,000 to support the institute over the next two to three years as it establishes partnerships, launches interdisciplinary projects and builds the infrastructure for long-term success.

Lightspeed Alert services provide student online safety alerting for Principals and counselors.  This purchase will renew Lightspeed Filter and Alert Subscription for one year. The cost of the renewal is $21,129.90.

Also on the agenda is an executive session to discuss personnel matters pursuant to the non-elected personnel exception under the Kansas Open Meetings Act. 

Following the session, the board will consider approval of the district’s personnel report before adjourning.

USD 308 BOE to review professional development plan

HUTCHINSON — The University of Kansas Transition to Postsecondary Education (KU TPE) program will host an information session in partnership with the Reno County Education Cooperative (RCEC) on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Reno County Special Education Cooperative, 2500 E. 30th Ave.

The KU TPE program is a two-year undergraduate certificate designed for KU students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program provides an inclusive college experience that allows participants to take KU courses for credit, join student clubs and organizations, live in student housing, and participate in both paid and unpaid career internships. Upon completion, students earn a KU undergraduate certificate on their transcript.

During the Hutchinson session, families will have the opportunity to meet KU TPE staff, learn more about the program, hear from current participants, and ask questions.

The event is open to families of middle and high school students, though parents of younger students interested in future opportunities are also encouraged to attend.

Through its Kansans Can Star Recognition program, KSDE honors districts and communities that provide high-quality, inclusive early childhood opportunities for young children and their families. The goal is to ensure every child enters kindergarten at age five socially, emotionally, and academically ready to learn and succeed.

  USD 308 recognized for leading the way in kindergarten readiness

Central Christian Schools is wrapping up a busy October with community events and student activities that bring together service, celebration, and faith.

The school’s annual Red Cross blood drive takes place today (Monday) from 1 to 6 p.m. in the school Commons. Dr. Walker said the event serves two purposes — supporting a critical community need for blood donations and helping fund the school’s music department, which is preparing for a spring trip to Branson, Missouri.

“This helps our choir travel to Branson, where they’ll open for The Haygoods this spring,” Walker said. “If you’re able, we encourage you to stop by and donate — even walk-ins are welcome.”

Walker noted that the Red Cross is still facing lower-than-normal donation levels nationwide and that all blood types are needed.

Central Christian’s new early education center continues to experience high enrollment interest — but staffing remains the limiting factor.

“We’ve got plenty of families who want to enroll,” Walker said, “but staffing continues to be the challenge, just like across the childcare industry.”

He added that the school offers unique incentives for staff, including free childcare for their own children and tuition discounts for those with kids enrolled in K–12 programs.

“We’re looking for people who love Jesus and love kids,” Walker said. “If that’s you, come talk to us — we’d love to have you on our team.”

Central Christian’s athletic programs are finishing strong this fall. The volleyball team continues to improve under Coach Mary Ver Steeg, while the football team remains undefeated (7–0) heading into Friday’s district game at Norwich.

“It’s been fun to see our athletes using their God-given gifts to bring Him glory,” Walker said. “And it’s great when underclassmen get some game experience — that builds the future of the program.”

The school will host its first-ever Fall Fest on Monday, Oct. 27, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Central Christian School parking lot. The event is open to the entire community and will feature food trucks, games, live music, and family activities.

Vendors include Burger Depot, Stretch’s Street Tacos, and Lighthouse Lemonade, along with attractions such as axe throwing from Ax It Up Hutch, pumpkin painting, face painting, and calf roping games.

“This isn’t just for CCS families — it’s for everyone in Hutchinson,” Walker said. “Come out, grab a taco, paint a pumpkin, and just enjoy a great night of family fun.”

Looking ahead, Central Christian’s annual Stewardship Dinner is set for Friday, Nov. 15, featuring guest speaker Dan Meers, who portrayed KC Wolf, the Kansas City Chiefs’ beloved mascot, for 35 years.

“Dan is a phenomenal speaker who shares powerful stories about faith, perseverance, and purpose,” Walker said. “It’s free to attend, but we do ask for reservations so we can plan for food and seating.”

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Public Schools (USD 308) leaders joined local radio host Glenn Grunwald this week to share updates on both fall athletics and the proposed bond issue that could reshape the district’s facilities.

Superintendent Dr. Dawn Johnson and Athletic Director Steve Kappenman highlighted the district’s busy fall season and provided insight into plans for a new middle school site that would be part of the upcoming bond proposal.

Strong fall sports season Kappenman said it’s been an exciting fall across Hutch High and the middle schools.
“Our boys soccer team is finishing up their regular season, volleyball had a fantastic year at 22–13, and football’s sitting at four and two heading into a big game at Newton,” Kappenman said.

He also praised freshman runner Christian Medina for his impressive cross-country season and recognized tennis player Laney Hagley, who qualified for the state tournament after battling through a rain-soaked regional in Salina.

Kappenman added that the district’s unified bowling program—which pairs special-needs students with their peers—earned second place at its first meet and recorded the highest score in school history. “It’s the greatest display of sportsmanship you’ll ever see,” he said.

At the middle school level, both HMS 7 and HMS 8 volleyball teams finished second in league play, and the eighth-grade boys cross country team also brought home a runner-up title. “The future looks really bright for Salthawk athletics,” Kappenman said.

Planning for future facilities Dr. Johnson addressed community questions about the proposed USD 308 bond issue, which includes construction of a new middle school. She explained that finding adequate land within the district’s 14-square-mile boundary has been challenging.

“When we looked for 25 to 40 acres, we found there’s really only one site available within district boundaries—property we already own near 23rd and Severance,” Johnson said. “That land was actually purchased years ago with a middle school in mind.”

Because of surrounding housing, Johnson said expanding the existing HMS 7 and HMS 8 sites wasn’t feasible. The district also explored the former Atrium property but found it too small due to the K-61 corridor cutting through it.

If the bond is approved, the athletic fields now at 23rd and Severance would be relocated. Kappenman said plans call for new baseball and softball fields at Stremel Park, just north of Hobart-Detter Field, and a reconfigured soccer layout near Don Michael Field, keeping practices close to existing locker rooms and lighting.

“This would actually make logistics easier for our students and visiting teams,” Kappenman noted. “Right now, we bus kids all over town for practices and games. Consolidating facilities makes a lot of sense.”

Johnson clarified that athletic facilities account for less than 2% of the proposed bond amount. “The vast majority—98%—goes directly to educational improvements,” she said, noting that additional funding for field work would come from the district’s capital outlay budget.

Buhler USD 313 has been recognized by the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) and the Kansas State Board of Education for outstanding performance in the 2025 Kansans Can Star Recognition Program, which highlights district success in key educational outcomes identified by Kansans as most valuable.

In a letter from Kansas Commissioner of Education Dr. Randy Watson and Kansas State Board of Education Chair Cathy Hopkins, Buhler was praised for “the exceptional work your district is doing to reach the state’s vision for education – Kansas leads the world in the success of each student.”

Hutchinson Public Schools has announced its 2026 Kansas Teacher of the Year nominees — Amanda Buethe of Faris Elementary and Michelle Goossen of Hutchinson High School.

The Kansas Teacher of the Year program celebrates outstanding educators from across the state who demonstrate exceptional skill, dedication, and impact in their classrooms and communities. The annual program, sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, promotes teaching excellence and highlights the essential role educators play in shaping the future of Kansas students.

Amanda Buethe: Celebrating Growth Beyond the Classroom A veteran educator with more than two decades of teaching experience, Amanda Buethe currently teaches second grade at Faris Elementary School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bethany College and a Master of Education from Wichita State University.

Buethe says her greatest joy comes from watching former students thrive long after they’ve left her classroom.

“I love celebrating their graduations, promotions, and even becoming parents—there’s nothing more rewarding than knowing you were a small part of their journey,” she said.

Buethe has taught in USD 308 for five years and has worked with students from second through twelfth grades. She holds endorsements in Elementary Education, English for Speakers of Other Languages, English Language Arts, and Family and Consumer Sciences.

Buethe credits the teamwork within her school for her continued enthusiasm. “My colleagues, support staff, custodians, behavior support team, and administrators keep me motivated to give my best every day,” Buethe said.

Her advice to new teachers is simple but heartfelt.&nbsp;“Give yourself grace; growth takes time, and every day is a chance to begin again. Focus on what’s best for kids and everything else will fall into place” she said.&nbsp;

Michelle Goossen: Connecting Students to Agriculture and Real Life At Hutchinson High School, Michelle Goossen brings agriculture to life through hands-on learning and real-world connections. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Master’s in Agriculture Education and Communications from Kansas State University.

Goossen teaches Agriculture Education and serves as both a CASE (Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education) Master Teacher and the organization’s Professional Development Coordinator.

“This allows me to work with teachers from all over the country to gain ideas and share knowledge,” she said.

For Goossen, teaching is about more than content—it’s about connection. “Even though students might not go into a career in agriculture, they are consumers of agriculture for the rest of their lives,” she explained.

She takes pride in helping students see how agricultural literacy shapes daily decisions, from food production to environmental sustainability.

Honoring Excellence in Education Both Buethe and Goossen will represent Hutchinson Public Schools in the Kansas Teacher of the Year regional selection process, where honorees are chosen for their commitment to students, innovation in teaching, and community involvement.

The Kansas Teacher of the Year program will culminate in the statewide awards ceremony later this school year, celebrating educators who exemplify the spirit of teaching excellence across Kansas.

Kansas students and adults considering college will soon have a special opportunity to apply for free to dozens of institutions across the state.

Kansas Apply Free Days will be held October 6–8, 2025, giving all Kansas residents—regardless of age or income—the chance to apply at no cost to any of the state’s 7 public universities, 19 community colleges, 6 technical colleges, and 21 private institutions that are members of the Kansas Independent College Association.

During these three days, eligible applicants can submit free applications for certificate, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree programs. Graduate or mid-degree program applications are not included.

Students are encouraged to prepare their applications in advance, but they must wait until Monday, October 6 to submit in order to qualify for the waived fees. Only applications submitted between October 6 and 8 will be free. Any sent before or after that window will not be eligible for refunds.

Applicants using the Common Application should contact the admissions office of their chosen schools or review the official Apply Free Days Application Instructions for details.

All Kansas residents applying to undergraduate programs are eligible, including: •&nbsp;&nbsp;First-time freshmen •&nbsp;&nbsp;Transfer students •&nbsp; Returning students •&nbsp;&nbsp;Students seeking a second bachelor’s degree

Kansas apply free days begin today

From agriculture to the arts to music, students in the Buhler School District are earning recognition at state and regional levels this fall. Superintendent Cindy Couchman highlighted several recent accomplishments during an update this week, calling them examples of the district’s “small school feel with big school opportunities.”&nbsp;

Among the standouts is Buhler High School senior Emily Hare, who won the Ag Challenge of Champions at the Kansas State Fair. The FFA competition tested her knowledge in livestock, crop identification, feed analysis, meat cuts, and industry practices. Along with the top prize, Hair earned a $3,000 scholarship. “It’s a very intense competition,” Couchman said. “We’re really proud of her, our FFA program, and our instructors. It takes a whole village with student success.”&nbsp;

Another student making headlines is Abby Cox, who attends Ad Astra Alternative Academy. Cox earned first place in both nonfiction and art categories in the Kansas Authors Club High School Division. Her nonfiction entry has since been featured on the district’s website. “It is a moving article, just beautiful,” Couchman said.&nbsp;

On the music front, the Buhler High School Marching Band captured first place at the Air Capital Marching Competition in Wichita and is competing at Emporia State University’s marching festival on Oct. 1. Couchman praised the dedication of students, staff, and families: “It’s a whole family event when you have a student out for band. They’re at school early in the morning, all summer long. It is a real commitment.”&nbsp;

Beyond celebrating individual achievements, Couchman emphasized the district’s broader focus on college and career readiness. She noted that Buhler consistently scores above state predictions for postsecondary success, with more than 70 percent of students deemed college- or career-ready. October is a busy month for career exposure, with freshmen taking the pre-ACT, juniors completing the WorkKeys exam, and students across grade levels participating in career fairs, college visits, and job site tours.&nbsp;

“Step one is helping students visualize themselves in a career or in college,” Couchman said. “Exposure is key, seeing what’s possible at an early age helps set that expectation.”&nbsp;

Couchman also shared the district’s efforts in student leadership development, from fourth and fifth graders applying to serve as “Cru Leaders” in elementary schools to high school students involved in Rise Up Reno County.&nbsp;

Despite the good news, the district is also navigating challenges with declining enrollment, tied to an 8 percent drop in Reno County’s birth rate. Class sizes remain strong at the high school and middle school levels, but smaller groups are entering the lower grades. Couchman said the district is watching the numbers closely and hopes housing developments in the area will help bring new families into the district.&nbsp;

“We're hopeful that that brings in some young families with kids. The housing study is an interesting study in Reno County right now, and we're hopeful that we are we have so many organizations working to fix it. Hopefully we start feeling the effects of that soon, inside our districts." said Couchman.

McPherson College is a great place to work, according to a new survey by the Great Colleges to Work For® program. The results, featured in a special edition of The Chronicle of Higher Education, recognize McPherson College for the 11th consecutive year.

The results are based on a survey completed by 199 colleges nationwide. In total, only 76 institutions achieved recognition on the list for specific practices and policies. McPherson College was recognized in 4 categories, including compensation &amp; benefits, confidence in leadership, shared governance, and faculty experience.

“Supported by a dedicated community of employees, McPherson College continues to achieve significant milestones,” said President Michael Schneider. “With valuable input shaping the college’s 10-year strategic plan, employees are strengthening the college’s effort to build new innovative academic programs, campus facilities, and wellness initiatives, while providing the highest quality education and student experience.”

President Schneider points to some basic practices, such as the college’s compensation plan and benefits, including retirement contributions made after one year of employment, as reasons why people like working for McPherson College. Monthly all-campus meetings, called “huddles, where information is shared from across campus, foster community involvement. Initiatives such as training from the Kansas Leadership Center, which develops adaptive problem-solving skills, and community participation in developing the college’s strategic plan set McPherson College apart from other college campuses.

In a comment featured on the survey’s website, one McPherson College employee says, “At McPherson College, faculty and staff have opportunities to engage in the strategic planning of the college. It’s reassuring to know the direction and goals of the college and to feel you are a part of its advancement.”

McPherson College began the academic year by opening the Campus Commons, a 55,000-square-foot campus hub for student services. The new building is part of the college’s larger expansion effort, which has seen campus size increase by 20%. Nearly half of all existing campus buildings have been renovated, including all student residence halls, as well as the Holman Fieldhouse, home of Bulldog athletics; Melhorn Hall science labs; Mohler Hall classrooms; and computer labs across campus.

In August, the Higher Learning Commission reaffirmed McPherson College’s accreditation and invited the college to pursue the Open Pathway for its next 10-year accreditation cycle, signaling confidence in the college’s ability to meet its mission and maintain high institutional standards.

“All of our accomplishments and successes are due in large part to the unique persistence of the dedicated people who work here,” said President Schneider. “This national recognition is a reflection of the hardworking employees at McPherson College, who go out of their way not only to make McPherson College a great place to work but a world-class learning institution.”

 </figure>This contest, open to students in grades 3–12 across Kansas, invites submissions in Poetry, Fiction, Nonfiction, and (as of 2025) Art. Entrants create original, unpublished work—no co-authors, no AI-assisted pieces—and are judged by skilled panels with the highest awards going to those whose work meets excellence in creativity, technique, and expression.We could not be more proud of her dedication and talent. Achieving first place in one category is a major success—winning in&nbsp;two&nbsp;is a testament to her hard work, artistic vision, and passion.<figure>
