HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The USD 308 Board of Education elected a new Vice President and welcomed Kail Denison as the new President at their meeting on Monday, April 24.
Following the approval of the resignation of Greg Meredith from his seat as Board President due to a job change that will take his family out of Hutchinson, the USD 308 Board of Education will now be led by Kail Denison.
The board elected Valerie Gibson-Smith as Vice President.
There is now a vacant seat on the USD 308 Board of Education and the seat will be filled by appointment. The appointed member’s term will serve until the next general school board election. It is anticipated that applications will be available on April 27. Those applications will be due back to the USD 308 Administration Center by noon on May 17. The expected start date for the appointed board member would be at the June 12 BOE meeting.
Also during Monday's meeting, the Board heard from Lindsey Fields, the Director of Operations at Hutchinson Boys & Girls Club. She shared the services that the club provides to area students.
Zion Burgess, a Vision Leader at the club, shared the impact Boys & Girls Club has had on his life and education.
The McCandless Leadership Academy’s Leader in Me Team also presented at Monday night's Board meeting.
April is Student Leadership Month, and students from McCandless shared ways they are given opportunities to display leadership during the school day and influence their own educational journeys.
