KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced changes to their coaching staff today, effective immediately.

Alec Zumwalt, Senior Director for Player Development and Hitting Performance, will join the big league staff full-time and oversee all hitting efforts.&nbsp;Keoni DeRenne&nbsp;remains the Assistant Hitting Coach and&nbsp;Mike Tosar, Special Assignment Hitting Coach, will also be in uniform with the Major League team. As part of the changes, Hitting Coach&nbsp;Terry Bradshaw&nbsp;will no longer be with the team.

“Baseball is constantly shifting and we have to continue to self-evaluate to make sure we’re giving our players everything they need to be successful at the highest levels of baseball,” Royals General Manager&nbsp;JJ Picollo&nbsp;said. “Our results so far haven’t matched what we’re capable of, and we all share accountability in that. We look forward to Alec, Keoni and Mike helping us provide the best possible processes for our players.”

Zumwalt is in his 12th season with the Royals, and third in his current role. He was originally hired as a Pro Scout in 2011 and was awarded the 2015 Art Stewart Scout of the Year Award for his efforts during the World Series Championship season. He spearheaded a shift in hitting development that helped produce significant improvements in productivity, including&nbsp;Bobby Witt Jr.&nbsp;being named Baseball America’s Minor League Player of the Year and&nbsp;MJ Melendez&nbsp;winning the Joe Bauman Award as minor league home run champion in 2021.

Tosar joined the Royals in his current position in 2020. Prior to that, he was an International Scout and Special Assignment Hitting Coach with the Dodgers from 2012-19. He’s also worked with the Mariners, Twins, Marlins and Rays organizations. In 2017, Tosar threw to then-Royal&nbsp;Mike Moustakas&nbsp;in the 2017 Home Run Derby.

“Changes like this are never easy and I’m grateful to Terry for his friendship and all he’s done for me personally and for our team,” Royals manager&nbsp;Mike Matheny&nbsp;said. “We can all do better, and that includes me. Bradshaw played in 1995 and 1996 for the Cardinals and has worked in the Royals system since 2000 and played a key role in the development of Royals stars like Moustakas and&nbsp;Eric Hosmer&nbsp;before being elevated to Major League Hitting Coach in 2018. ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Blues eliminated the Minnesota Wild in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs with a mid-series goalie change and an unconventional lineup. Now, the team heads to Colorado to face the top-seeded Avalanche in the second round. The Blues have met the Avalanche in the playoffs twice before, losing both matchups, including getting swept in the first round last season. St. Louis lost Nicky Leddy, Robert Bortuzzo and Torey Krug to injuries in the first three games of the opening round. Leddy and Bortuzzo returned for Game 5, but Krug (lower-body injury) remains day to day. The injuries prompted the coaching staff to employ a starting lineup of 11 forwards and seven defensemen in the final three games against Minnesota.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Sebastian Blanco and Nathan Fogaca each scored twice in the second half and the Portland Timbers routed Sporting Kansas City 7-2 in a wild match Saturday night. Bill Tuiloma, Marvin Loria and Santiago Moreno also scored to help the Timbers (3-3-6) snap a four-match winless streak. It was the first time that Portland scored seven goals in a game. Johnny Russell and Marinos Tzionis scored for Sporting. Kansas City (2-7-3) is winless in seven games.

Pair of 7s: Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns happy to be home

UNDATED (AP) — The Boston Celtics and Phoenix Suns head into Game 7 of their respective second-round playoff series with home court advantage. The Celtics host the Milwaukee Bucks Sunday afternoon, a few hours before the Suns host the Dallas Mavericks.

The Celtics and Bucks have alternated wins throughout the first six games of their series. The Mavs and Suns have each won all three of their home games in their series, including many by a wide margin.

It's the second consecutive year the Mavericks have played a Game 7. Dallas lost to the Clippers in Los Angeles in last year's contest after the visiting team won the first six games of the series.

Rangers, Flames host weekend's last two NHL Game 7s

UNDATED (AP) — The New York Rangers were on the brink of elimination when they returned from Pittsburgh earlier in the week after two bad losses on the road. After two spirited comeback wins, they host a deciding Game 7 at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night with some momentum on their side. Clawing back from a deficit is nothing new for these Rangers. They had 27 comeback wins during the regular season, just two fewer than league-leading Florida. The Penguins could get a boost with the possible return of injured players Sidney Crosby, Tristan Jarry and Rickard Rakell.

The wild-card Dallas Stars avoided elimination by winning Game 6 at home. Now they'll take on the Flames in Calgary in the fifth Game 7 of the first round. The Stars were last in a Game 7 in the second round of the 2020 playoffs against Colorado in the bubble at Edmonton, on the way to their run to the Stanley Cup Final. The Flames will be playing their first Game 7 since the first round of the 2008 playoffs against San Jose. But their coach Darryl Sutter is a master of the deciding games. At 7-3, he's the league leader in coaching wins in a Game 7 and will become the leader for the most Game 7 appearances.

Rangers' Perez to face former team...Wainwright set to start vs Giants

UNDATED (AP) — Martin Perez is back with his original team in Texas, and the left-hander will face his former team Sunday afternoon in a series finale against Boston. Perez has allowed only two earned runs over 26 1/3 innings in his last four starts after losing his first two this season. His overall 2.10 ERA since rejoining the Rangers this spring is the lowest by a Texas lefty through his first six games since C.J. Wilson's 1.51 over that span in 2010.

The 31-year-old Perez is the first Rangers lefty since Cole Hamels in 2016 to make four consecutive starts going at least six innings and allowing no more than one earned run. He also hasn't allowed a homer in his 34 1/3 innings, just short of his best season-opening homerless streak of 37 1/3 innings over his first seven starts while still with Texas in 2017.

Perez made his big league debut with the Rangers in 2012. He pitched for them through 2018 before going to Minnesota in free agency, then to the Red Sox.

— Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright is expected to come off the COVID-19 injured list to face San Francisco in a night game at Busch Stadium. — The Tigers will see how Michael Pineda is doing, a day after a line drive broke a finger on his pitching hand. The 33-year-old Pineda is 1-2 with a 3.22 ERA in five starts during his first season with Detroit.

— Phillies star Bryce Harper is scheduled to get a platelet-rich plasma injection to help with a small tear in his right elbow, causing him to miss the series finale at Dodger Stadium. Harper might also miss Philadelphia's home game Tuesday night against San Diego. The right fielder won't throw for four weeks, but will remain in the lineup as the designated hitter.

ROME (AP) — Novak Djokovic (JOH'-kuh-vich) raised his first trophy of the year Sunday at the Italian Open and showed that he's back in top form exactly a week before the French Open starts. The top-ranked Djokovic beat Stefanos Tsitsipas (STEH'-fah-nohs TSEE'-tsee-pas) 6-0, 7-6 for his sixth Rome title after missing a large portion of the season because he wasn't vaccinated against the coronavirus. Djokovic hadn't won a tournament since raising the Paris Masters trophy in November.

Earlier Sunday, top-ranked Iga Swiatek (EE'-gah shvee-AHN'-tehk) beat Ons Jabeur 6-2, 6-2 to defend her Italian Open title and extend her winning streak to 28 matches as she heads to the French Open. Swiatek was a surprise champion at the French Open in 2020 when she was ranked No. 54. Now the 20-year-old Polish player is the favorite to add a second title at Roland Garros when the year's second Grand Slam starts next Sunday. Swiatek has won five straight titles during her run.

The Texas League’s reigning Pitcher of the Week, Parrish allowed just three hits without walking a batter. Between the second and sixth innings, the southpaw retired 13 straight batters, retiring the side 1-2-3 in the first inning, as well as the third through sixth.

After allowing a leadoff single in the seventh, Parrish struck out the next three he faced, finishing the night at a season-high 91 pitches.

Parrish battled toe-to-toe with Wichita starter Simeon Woods Richardson, as the score was locked up at 0-0 through the middle of the fifth, at the halfway point. Woods Richardson had retired eight in a row headed to the bottom of the fifth, but the Naturals quickly loaded the bases, on singles from Nate Eaton and Gavin Stupienski, then a walk from Jake Means.

On the first pitch he saw with the bases loaded, Tucker Bradley blasted a grand slam to right field to break the tie and put the Naturals up 4-0, his third home run of 2022 and his second grand slam of the year, the team’s third.

The Naturals hitters gave Parrish three more runs of support in the seventh, on an RBI groundout from Maikel Garcia and a two-run home run to left field off the bat of Nick Loftin, his fourth of the season.

Yefri Del Rosario took over for Parrish on the mound, pitching a scoreless 1-2-3 eighth inning, then stranding the bases loaded in the ninth, with three strikeouts across two scoreless innings.

ODESSA, Texas – One year ago when the Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team won its first national team championship, the Blue Dragons’ final-round lead dwindled from 12 to two strokes with six holes remaining.

There was no such drama on Friday at the Odessa Country Club.

Leading by 15 strokes to start the day, the Blue Dragons continued their four-round domination of the 2022 Championship and won their second-straight national title with a 20-stroke victory.

The Blue Dragons become the first NJCAA team to repeat as national champions since Indian Hills in 2014 and 2015.

The 2022 national champion Blue Dragons won their second national title as a program and captured the school’s ninth national championship – Football (2020-21), men’s basketball (1988, 1994 and 2017), Men’s Track and Field (1954, 1959) and women’s cross country (2001).

The Blue Dragons captured a record number of total All-Americans and first-team All-Americans.

Freshman Dominic Clemons, sophomore Ben Partridge and freshman Blake Saffell were first-team All-Americans. Sophomore Harry Crockett was a third-team All-American.

Clemons tied for the individual title after 72 holes and lost a two-hole playoff with Midland’s J.T. Pittman. Partridge, last year’s individual national champion, finished third and Saffell, a freshman tied for fourth.

Partridge becomes the Blue Dragons’ first two-time first-team NJCAA All-American. Crockett is also a two-time NJCAA All-American.

The Blue Dragons made their move in the second round on Wednesday. Leading by three strokes after 18 holes, the Blue Dragons ran away from the field in the second round, beating the field by 15 strokes in the second round to build an 18-stroke lead. That cushion never got smaller than 16 strokes after that and the Blue Dragons pulled away on Friday.

Hutchinson shot its tournament-low round of 6-under 282 on Friday to finish at 22-under 1,130. The Blue Dragons defeated runner-up Odessa (1,150) by 20 strokes and third-place Midland (1,151) by 21 strokes.

The Blue Dragons counted scores from Crockett, who had two eagles and shot a 4-under 68. Alonzo had six birdies in a 2-uner 70 round. Clemons shot a 71 and Addison Alonzo had a 73. Partridge shot a 74 in the final round.

Clemons completed an outstanding tournament and tied Pittman at 7-under 281. Clemons was one stroke off the pace heading into No. 17. Hitting from the left rough from 117 yards out, Clemons drilled a shot within 4 feet and sank it for birdie to tie for the lead.

Clemons and Pittman both birdied the first playoff hole on No. 16. Pittman parred the second hole as Clemons hit a fairway bunker on his tee shot and still nearly got up-and-down for par to extend the playoff.

Partridge was almost a part of the playoff, but a bogey in the 72nd hole. Partridge had an incredible up-and-down for par on No. 17 to keep him tied for the lead. Partridge had one birdie and three bogeys.

Saffell earned first-team All-America honors finishing tied for fourth at 4-under 284.

Crockett rallied with a 68 on Friday to close out his career in a 14th-place tie at 1-over 289.

Alonzo posted his best score of the tournament with six birdies and four bogeys in a 2-under round of 70. Alonzo tied for 26th with a 72-hole score of 3-over 291.

Dragons win national golf title for second straight year

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Taylor Hearn allowed only one hit in five scoreless innings, Brad Miller homered and the Texas Rangers defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-1. The Royals' first hit literally was off Hearn. Michael A. Taylor sent a liner up the middle off the pitcher's leg that continued to the left of second base and into left field with two out in the second inning. Hearn walked three and struck out five. Joe Barlow pitched a scoreless ninth, retiring Whit Merrifield on a grounder with two runners on base, for his sixth save in six opportunities.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jordan Binnington made 25 saves and the St. Louis Blues beat the Minnesota Wild 5-1 in Game 6 to advance to the second round of the Western Conference playoffs. Ryan O'Reilly, Tyler Bozak and Vladimir Tarasenko scored in a dominant second period during which the Blues outshot the Wild 22-5 and took control. Nick Leddy also scored, Colton Parayko added an empty-netter and David Perron had two assists as St. Louis won its first series since defeating the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup Final in 2019. St. Louis will face Colorado in the second round. Matt Dumba scored in the third period for the Wild.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Rylan Bannon became just the third Baltimore player since 2000 to get a hit on the first pitch of his big league career, Jorge Mateo and Anthony Bemboom homered and the Orioles beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2. Bannon a 26-year-old third baseman, was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk before the game and singled on a changeup from Steven Matz (3-3) with two outs in the second inning, one batter after Mateo homered to put the Orioles ahead. Bannon went 1 for 4 with a strikeout and two flyouts. He was the 2017 Big East Player of the Year at Xavier.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Outfielder Andrew Benintendi went to arbitration with the Kansas City Royals, asking for $8.5 million instead of the team's $7.3 million offer. A decision by the panel of Mark Burstein, Keith Greenberg and Steven Wolf is expected Friday, along with a decision in the case of Seattle second baseman Adam Frazier, which was heard by a different panel on May 2 in the first of this year's lockout-delayed hearings. Benintendi hit .276 with 17 homers and 73 RBIs last year, earning a Gold Glove in his first season with the Royals.

Mavs stay alive after Heat close out Sixers

UNDATED (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks will head back to Phoenix for a seventh game in their Western Conference semifinal series.

Luka Doncic (DAHN'-chihch) delivered 33 points as the Mavs clobbered the Suns, 113-86. Doncic played through an apparent left leg injury that sent him to the locker room in the second quarter. When he returned to the court, Dallas went on a decisive 19-5 run to finish the first half, turning a two-point lead into a 60-45 halftime edge.

Reggie Bullock scored 19 points and Jalen Brunson added 18 for Dallas. Spencer Dinwiddie had a series-high 15, all on 3s.

Devin Booker scored 19 points for the Suns but was shut out from 3-point range while going 6 of 17 overall from the field.

Meanwhile, The Miami Heat have won another NBA playoff round by stifling the Philadelphia 76ers' top two stars.

The Heat are in the Eastern Conference finals for the second time in three years following a 99-90 comeback win over the 76ers.

Jimmy Butler pumped in 32 points for Miami, which will take on the Bucks or Celtics in the next round. Butler scored 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting in the third quarter, when the Heat went on a 16-2 run to take control.

Max Strus (stroos) had 20 points and 11 rebounds to help the Heat overcome 7 for 28 shooting from 3-point range.

Sixers center Joel Embiid (joh-EHL' ehm-BEED') shot 7 of 24 in scoring 20 points. James Harden furnished all 11 of his points by halftime and finished with four turnovers and four baskets.

Memphis Grizzlies' Zach Kleiman named NBA executive of year

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman has been named the NBA basketball executive of the year.

The 33-year-old Kleiman is the youngest to ever win the award and is the second executive with the Grizzlies to receive the honor. Jerry West won the award for the 2003-04 season while working with the Grizzlies.

Kleiman put together the roster that had the NBA's second-best record at 56-26, tying the franchise record for wins in a single season. The Grizzlies' No. 2 seed in the Western Conference is the highest in franchise history.

UNDATED (AP) — The New York Mets haven't reeled off a winning streak longer than three games so far this season, but they still haven't lost a series.

Mark Canha (KAN'-ah) and Taijuan (TY'-wahn) Walker led the Mets to a 4-1 victory this afternoon in the rubber match of their series in Washington. Canha had three of New York's five hits, including a two-run single and a solo homer. That was enough support for Walker, who scattered three hits over seven shutout innings.

The NL East leaders improved to 9-0-1 in series this season once Edwin Diaz worked the ninth to complete a combined four-hitter.

— The Phillies coughed up a 7-1 lead before scoring twice in the ninth to beat the Dodgers, 9-7. The Phillies scored the tiebreaking run on a wild pitch before Bryce Harper hit a sacrifice fly to give the Phillies a two-run lead. Harper also homered and had three RBIs.

— Connor Overton got his first major league win and combined with three relievers on a four-hitter in the Reds' first shutout of the season, 4-0 over the Pirates. Overton allowed three hits and four walks in 6 1/3 innings with one strikeout. Tyler Stephenson hit a home run and an RBI single for Cincinnati.

— The Yankees earned their fourth straight win as Giancarlo Stanton homered twice and drove in six runs to lead their 15-7 thumping of the White Sox. Aaron Judge and Josh Donaldson also connected for major league-leading New York, which broke the game open with a seven-run eighth. Judge had four RBIs, and Donaldson drove in three.

— The Orioles won the battle of the birds as Jorge Mateo and Anthony Bemboom homered in a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals. Rylan Bannon became just the third Baltimore player since 2000 to get a hit on the first pitch of his big league career. The O's improved to 4-1 in rubber games this season.

— The Astros rolled to an 11-3 rout of the Twins in the completion of a game suspended Thursday night because of rain. Jose Altuve (al-TOO'-vay) and Jeremy Peña drove in three runs apiece, with Altuve and Kyle Tucker providing homers. Twins manger Rocco Baldelli was back in the dugout after missing a week due to COVID-19.

— The Astros made it 10 straight wins by taking their other game on Thursday, 5-0 at Minnesota. Yordan (yohr-DAHN') Álvarez homered twice and Jeremy Peña capped a big day with three hits. Luis Garcia fanned nine over five innings and combined with three relievers on a seven-hitter.

— Seth Brown delivered a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning of the Athletics' 5-3 verdict over the Tigers. Jed Lowrie hit an RBI single in a three-run first and scored on Brown's go-ahead blast, which sent Detroit to its ninth loss in 10 games. Oakland took four of five in the series after reaching Motown on a nine-game losing streak.

— Taylor Hearn allowed only one hit in five scoreless innings of the Rangers' 3-1 downing of the Royals. Shesterkin just helped the Rangers earn their first conference quarterfinal appearance in five years, compiling a 2.07 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage. He;'s also a finalist for the Vezina (VEH'-zih-nuh) Trophy.

— The Penguins could be without captain Sidney Crosby as they try to close out their Stanley Cup first-round series on Friday against the visiting Rangers. Without him, the Pens watched a two-goal lead become a 5-3 loss that allowed the Rangers to force a Game 6.

Munoz shoots 60 at Byron Nelson, record 2nd this season

McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Sebastian Munoz fired a course-record 12-under 60 in the opening round of the Byron Nelson. He is the first PGA Tour player ever with two rounds of 60 in the same season.

Munoz was at 2-under par after taking a penalty shot because of a wayward tee shot at the eighth hole. The 29-year-old Colombian then was 6-under over his next four holes with two eagles. He finished with a 12-foot birdie.

He also had a 60 in the opening round of the the RSM Classic at Seaside in Georgia in November.

Munoz has a four-shot lead over Mito Pereira, Peter Malnati, K.H. Lee and Justin Lower.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Steve Stricker shot a 7-under 65 for a two-stroke lead over Miguel Angel Jimenez and Wes Short Jr. through the opening round of the Regions Tradition, the first of five PGA Tour Champions majors.

Crusaders close regular season with sweep

The National Football League announced the regular season schedule for the 2022 season on Thursday. The Chiefs are currently slated to play in five primetime contests, including three nationally televised games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. This year's regular season schedule features nine games vs. eight playoff teams from 2021. The combined record of Kansas City's 2022 home and away opponents from last year is 154-135-0 (.533).

The Chiefs will kick off their quest for a seventh-consecutive AFC West title on the road against Patrick Mahomes' former college coach Kliff Kingsbury and the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Sept. 11. Kansas City then returns home to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 15, the inaugural installment of Thursday Night Football exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Since Andy Reid's arrival in 2013, the Chiefs own a 41-13 (.759) record against AFC West opponents.

After facing the Indianapolis Colts on the road Sept. 25, the Chiefs have back-to-back primetime contests, the first a rematch of Super Bowl LV when they face the Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on NBC's Sunday Night Football on Oct. 2. KC then returns home to take on the Las Vegas Raiders on ESPN's Monday Night Football on Oct. 10. Since 2013, the Chiefs hold a 15-3 (.833) record against the Raiders. On Oct. 16, the Chiefs take on the Buffalo Bills at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium at 3:25 p.m., a rematch of last year's AFC Divisional showdown in which the quarterbacks for both teams combined for 707 passing yards and seven touchdowns in an overtime thriller.

On Oct. 23, the Chiefs hit the road again, this time to take on the San Francisco 49ers on FOX. It will be the first regular season meeting between the two clubs since Super Bowl LIV. Following the team's Bye Week, KC will host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday Night Football on Nov. 6, then continue in the AFC South by hosting former Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Doug Pederson and the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 13. After a trip to Los Angeles to face the Chargers on Nov. 20, KC comes home to host the defending Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 27.

The Chiefs will kick off the month of December with three-straight road contests, the first an AFC Championship rematch with the Cincinnati Bengals on Dec. 4, then a Sunday Night Football matchup with the Denver Broncos on Dec. 11, followed by a trip to Houston to face the Texans on Dec. 18. Five of Kansas City's final eight games this year will be on the road.

Springdale, Arkansas&nbsp;–&nbsp;The Wind Surge defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 10-4 on Thursday evening in game three of their six-game series. Wichita leads the series 2-1.

The Surge jumped out to the early lead with a three run third inning with a two-run double from Matt Wallner. Spencer Steer crushed his fifth homer of the season, 109 mph off his bat in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Naturals scored three runs in the fifth inning and Michael Massey tied the game in the sixth inning.

The Wind Surge offense exploded with six runs in the seventh sending ten batters to the plate. Leobaldo Cabrera hit a two-run home run for the second consecutive game.

Louie Varland improved his record to 4-1 pitching for 6.0 innings with 7 strikeouts.

New Mexico is second at 863 and Eastern Florida State is third at 868.Blue Dragon sophomore and 2021 national champion Ben Partridge continues to lead the individual title chase after three rounds. Partridge is currently at 8-under par 208 after rounds of 68, 70 and 70.Blue Dragon teammate Dominic Clemons and New Mexico’s Matthis Lefevre are tied for second at 6-under 210.
