The Salthawks are 4-16 start following splitting last Thursday to Salina South, while the Golden Eagles are 19-1 on the season and are the #1 seed out of 5A West.

Miley pitched in just nine games last season when he was with the Chicago Cubs and endured shoulder and elbow injuries. St. Louis starter Jordan Montgomery (2-6) pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. He is 0-6 in seven starts since winning at Milwaukee on April 8. Joel Payamps (2-0), the fourth of six pitchers, got the victory with 1 2/3 innings of work.

DENVER (AP) — Nick Senzel hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning, helping the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rockies 3-1 on Tuesday night. Colorado’s Ezequiel Tovar ended an 0-for-8 skid before breaking up a scoreless game in the bottom of the sixth inning with his third home run of the season. He connected on a 2-1 offering from the Reds’ Brandon Williamson, who was making his major league debut and had retired 14 in a row.

Williamson, a 25-year-old left-hander, struck out six in 5 2/3 innings and had allowed only a single to Charlie Blackmon in the first inning before Tovar hit a 415-foot shot to right-center.

TORONTO (AP) — Domingo Germán insisted he only had rosin on his hand, but umpire James Hoye said he felt something stickier on the fingers of the New York Yankees right-hander. Germán was ejected from a game against the Toronto Blue Jays after umpires checked his hands for banned sticky stuff. Germán’s ejection, likely to trigger a 10-game suspension, was the fourth since Major League Baseball started its crackdown on prohibited grip aids two years ago and the second this season. It occurred during the second game of an increasingly acrimonious series between AL East rivals. Aaron Judge was booed during his first two at-bats following allegations of sign stealing Monday.

CHICAGO (AP) — Victor Wembanyama is now set to begin his NBA career with the San Antonio Spurs, after they won the NBA draft lottery and the No. 1 overall pick on Tuesday night. The Spurs were one of three teams with the best odds — 14% — to land the No. 1 pick, which they’ll almost certainly use on Wembanyama. The 7-foot-3 French 19-year-old is one of the most highly touted prospects in NBA history and will be expected to make an immediate impact on the league.

DENVER (AP) — Nikola Jokic's powerful display at both ends of the court propelled the Denver Nuggets past the Los Angeles Lakers 132-126 in the opener of the Western Conference Finals. The Nuggets led by as many as 21 points before the Lakers made a late push before falling short of winning an opener on the road for the third time in these playoffs. Anthony Davis scored 40 points for the Lakers and LeBron James came up one assist shy of a triple double to go with his 26 points and 12 rebounds.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia 76ers fired coach Doc Rivers following a third straight exit in the second round of the playoffs. It was the second time in that span that he lost a series lead and a Game 7. Rivers led the 76ers to their second straight 50-win season behind NBA MVP Joel Embiid but again failed to lead them to the Eastern Conference Finals or beyond. The 76ers held a 3-2 semifinal series lead against Boston before dropping Game 6 at home and were crushed in Game 7 on the road. Rivers fell to 6-10 in Game 7s. He had two years left on his contract. He won the 2008 NBA title as coach of the Boston Celtics.

UNDATED (AP) — The NHL is about to stage a very non-traditional pair of conference finals. Every game will be played in the Sun Belt for the first time. There is not an Original Six franchise in sight. Carolina will take on the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final, with Game 1 on Thursday night. The Dallas Stars and the Golden Knights open the West final Friday night in Las Vegas. Even with Sun Belt teams filling every spot in the finals for the first time, this quartet isn’t new to the playoffs. All have made it to a Stanley Cup Final.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Salvador Perez hit a two-run double in Kansas City's five-run second, Brady Singer pitched six solid innings and the Royals beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 on Tuesday night to snap a four-game losing streak.

The Royals jumped on starter Seth Lugo (3-3) in the second, with Bobby Witt Jr., Nate Eaton and Matt Duffy also driving in runs. Lugo gave up five runs on four hits in his two innings. The Padres have lost eight of 10.

“That was really good for us tonight. That is a great win, you know, against a team like the Padres. They are a really good team,” Perez said. “We scored five runs, and we got the game.”

Singer (3-4) lasted six innings, giving up seven hits and four runs, two of which were earned. Scott Barlow got his fifth save with a scoreless ninth.

"The fastball had really good late movement on it. I was able to move that around the zone. The slider helped me a lot tonight," Singer said. “I think I attacked the zone pretty well tonight.”

San Diego had a defensive highlight in the seventh when Fernando Tatis Jr. threw-out Vinnie Pasquantino trying to go from first to third on a single. After the play Tatis acted like he was putting a pistol back in a holster.

“I wasn't a big fan,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said of the attempt by Pasquantino to take third base. “We know he (Tatis) is super talented in every aspect of the game and throwing is certainly nothing he is lacking.”

The Padres scored two unearned runs in the fifth after consecutive errors by Kansas City’s MJ Melendez and Matt Duffy.

“Those things are going to happen. You just have to make pitches and pick them up,” Singer said of the errors. “That is just part of baseball. ... You have got to be able to overcome that.”

Kansas City reliever Ardolis Chapman pitched the seventh and threw a 104-mph fastball to Jake Cronenworth, which ties the fastest pitch of the 2023 season.

“That's amazing,” Perez said of Champan's feat.

San Diego continues to struggle offensively and had two runners picked off first base in the game.

“It's just a little bit the way we've been playing,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said of his team's losing skid. “It's just not in sync all the way around. You don't expect base-running to cost you."

Royals RHP Max Castillo was optioned to Triple-A Omaha, and RHP Jackson Kowar was called up from Omaha. Kowar had a 7.84 ERA over 20-2/3 innings coming out of the Omaha bullpen this season.

A day after Padres 3B Manny Machado was hit by a pitch on the left hand, he was out of the starting lineup Tuesday. Machado is experiencing soreness and swelling, but X-rays came back negative. It seems likely the Padres will sit Machado as a precaution on Wednesday for the series finale ahead of an off-day Thursday.

Padres RHP Yu Darvish (2-2, 3.16) gets the start to close the three-game series.

NEWTON – After two straight national tournaments of leading wire-to-wire, the No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team faces a deficit after Round 1 of the 2023 NJCAA Division I Championships on Tuesday at Sand Creek Station.

The No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons are 11 strokes off the pace of Indian Hills after 18 holes. The Blue Dragons shot a 1-over-par 289 on Tuesday.

Round 2 of the 72-hole championship is Wednesday at Sand Creek Station. First tee times are set for 7:30 a.m. The Blue Dragons, who are again paired with New Mexico Junior College and Midland College, tee off from 1:20 to 2 p.m.

The Blue Dragons had a strong start, playing the first five holes in 3-under par. Hutchinson then struggled from holes 6 through 14 with 14 bogeys and only four birdies as the Blue Dragons fell nine spots in the team standings to a tie for 12th.

Hutchinson built some momentum for Wednesday and climbed back into the Top 10 with a good finish that included two birdies each from&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/lindstrom_alex_7wqw">Alex Lindstrom</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/saffell_blake_2ov2">Blake Saffell</a>&nbsp;and a&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/galvin_louis_mscz">Louis Galvin</a>&nbsp;birdie. The Dragons played the final four holes in 3-under par to close at 289.

Indian Hills leads the team standings after 18 holes at 10-under 278. Eastern Florida State is second at 281. Western Texas is at 282 and McLennan is fourth at 283.

This is the first time since 2019 that the Blue Dragons have not led the national tournament after a round. After no tournament in 2020 because of the pandemic, the Blue Dragons led the 2021 and 2022 championships after the opening round and never relinquished the lead.

Lindstrom, who on Monday night was named the Phil Mickelson NJCAA Freshman of the Year, led the Blue Dragons with a 3-under-par round of 69. Lindstrom had four birdies and just one bogey in his opening round. Lindstrom closed strong with birdies on Nos. 16 and 28.

Lindstrom is the only Blue Dragon currently in the Top 10, tied for seventh at 3-under par. Lindstrom was one of 32 golfers to shoot under par on Tuesday.

Galvin and fellow freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/anderson_marco_z2pq">Marco Anderson</a>&nbsp;both carded 1-over 73s on Tuesday, which is tied for 46th.

Galvin was 1-under through nine holes, but had three bogeys over the next six holes before a birdie on No. 16 and pars on the final two holes.

Anderson was 2-under through five holes, but had four birdies and five bogeys to finish at 1-over par after the first round.

Saffell was 4-over par through 13 holes, but put together a strong final five holes with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 and a near miss of a birdie on No. 18 to finish at 2-over 74. Saffell is tied for 61st after the opening round.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/clemons_dominic_18vf">Dominic Clemons</a>&nbsp;finished Day 1 with a 4-over 76. Clemons is tied for 85th after 18 holes.

Wallace State's Keith Hunter is the individual leader with a 5-under 67. Six golfers are one stroke off the lead after 68s on Tuesday.

⛳  Blue Dragons 8th after day 1 at NJCAA Championships

McPherson, Kan.&nbsp;— The McPherson Bullpup baseball team won it's ninth straight game, and more importantly advanced to the class 4A state tournament with a 6-2 win over Buhler in the regional championship game.

McPherson got past El Dorado, 14-0 in the regional semifinal before beating their rival in the title game. The Bullpups and Crusaders split their two games in the regular season, Buhler winning the first meeting before McPherson won recent game at home on April 6. The Bullpups advance to their second straight class 4A state tourney with the win on Tuesday.

Buhler loaded the bases with nobody out in the second and would eventually take a 2-0 lead after an inning and a half. McPherson didn't wait long to plate it's first run, as Carter Allen crushed a 3-run double to left field, giving the Pups a 3-2 lead. McPherson plated one more run in the inning and led 4-2 after two complete.

The Bullpups had back-to-back hits in the third, resulting in two more runs and giving the hosts a 6-2 lead. Although Buhler out hit the Bullpups, 8-7, the Bullpups' defense stayed strong and didn't let any more damage happen.

The Crusaders had won their last two meetings against McPherson in regional title games, including 2016 en route to it's state title and in 2018.&nbsp;

⚾ McPherson is state bound, other results from Tuesday's regionals

HESSTON, Kan. — The Hesston Swathers boys golf team made a statement on it's home course on Tuesday, winning the 3A regional title by 18 strokes over Wichita Collegiate at the Hesston Golf Course. 

The Swathers were led by Camden Waterson, who finished 2-over par for a 73 in the 18-hole regional. Palmer Welsh wasn't far behind, carding a 4-over total of 75.

The Hesston Golf Course was a busy place on Tuesday, as the course also hosted the class 4A regional hosted by Buhler. LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;— The Kansas football team added a quarterback to it's roster on Monday when Nebraska transfer Mikey Pauley announced his commitment to the Jayhawks on social media.

Pauley was a three-star quarterback out of high school where he led Blue Valley Northwest to a state title on the gridiron in 2021.

The 6-foot-3 and 195-pound quarterback redshirted for the Huskers in his freshman year.

BATH, Mich. - The Kansas State men's golf team put together a score of 3-under par 281 during Monday's opening round of the 2023 NCAA Bath Regional held at the par-71, 7,090-yard Eagle Eye Golf Club. 

The Wildcats are in eighth place among the 13-team field but only two shots out of fifth place as the top five teams in the regional advance to the NCAA Championship. K-State's score of 281 was the second-best team mark for a regional in school history just behind the 280 that the Wildcats recorded in the final round of the 2003 NCAA Central Regional. "I would say it was an okay round. We made quite a few birdies, but we had a couple of big numbers on par 5s that hurt us," head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/coaches/grant-robbins/1886">Grant Robbins</a>&nbsp;said. "Other than that, I thought all five guys were pretty solid. I like where everyone's game is right now. If we can just stay patient and make a few putts, I feel like we can make a big move tomorrow." ⛳ K-State has solid first day of NCAA regional

Beginning next year, high school basketball teams will shoot two free throws for common fouls when in the “bonus.” This change to Rule 4-8-1 eliminates the one-and-one scenario and sets new foul limits each quarter for awarding the bonus free throw.

Rules changes were approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Basketball Rules Committee at its annual meeting April 24-26&nbsp;in Indianapolis. The recommendations were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.

In addition to awarding two foul shots for all common fouls, teams will reach the bonus when their opponent commits five fouls in each quarter and team fouls will reset at the end of each quarter. Previously, teams were awarded the one-and-one bonus when their opponents committed seven fouls in a half and two foul shots when 10 fouls were committed each half.

“The rules committee studied data that showed higher injury rates on rebounding situations and saw this as an opportunity to reduce opportunities for rough play during rebounds,” said Lindsey Atkinson, NFHS Director of Sports and liaison to the Basketball Rules Committee. “Additionally, resetting the fouls each quarter will improve game flow and allow teams to adjust their play by not carrying foul totals to quarters two and four.”

The throw-in procedure for front-court violations was simplified in Rules 7-5-2 through 7-5-5. When the ball is in team control in the offensive team’s frontcourt and the defensive team commits a violation, a common foul prior to the bonus, or the ball becomes dead, the corresponding throw-in by the offensive team will be at one of four designated spots determined by where the infraction took place. The designated spots are either the nearest 28-foot mark along each sideline or the nearest spot 3 feet outside the lane line on the end line. The one exception is when the defensive team causes a ball to be out of bounds, the throw-in shall be the spot where the ball went out of bounds.

Throw-in administration was also addressed in a change to Rule 7-6-6. When an official administers a throw-in to the wrong team, the error can be fixed before the first dead ball after the ball becomes live unless there has been a change in possession.

This provides an opportunity for schools with hard-to-find colors to have all players wear a black undershirt.</li><li>Rule 9-3-3 was amended to allow a player to step out of bounds and return to the court if the player gains no advantage. A player is penalized only if, after returning inbounds, the player is the first to touch the ball or avoids a violation.</li>

Andrew Knizner hit his first career grand slam in a 10-run eighth after entering as a pinch runner earlier in the inning, which began with Tommy Edman homering. The Cardinals tied their season high with 16 hits. Jack Flaherty allowed three hits in seven innings and struck out 10. Willson Contreras returned behind the plate for his first appearance at catcher since May 5.

DENVER (AP) — Rookie Brenton Doyle had first first multihomer game and Harold Castro had a tiebreaking, two-run double with two outs in the seventh inning that lifted Colorado over the Cincinnati Reds 9-8 Monday night for the Rockies’ 10th win in 14 games. With the score 6-6, Ryan McMahon singled off Ben Lively (1-1) leading off the seventh. Luke Sims, who hadn’t allowed a run in 11 appearances this season, relieved with one out and walked Randal Grichuk with two outs. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas State signed football coach Chris Klieman to a new eight-year contract Monday that will pay an average of $5.5 million annually. The deal replaced a contract due to end after the 2026 season that paid him an average of $4 million. The 55-year-old Klieman led the Wildcats to the Big 12 title last season with a win over College Football Playoff participant TCU. The Wildcats should contend for another conference title this season. They return quarterback Will Howard, their entire offensive line and several playmakers on defense. They open the season Sept. 2 against Southeast Missouri State.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Shohei Ohtani made more history, becoming the first starting pitcher since 1964 to reach base five times in a game as the Los Angeles Angels beat the Baltimore Orioles 9-5. Ohtani had four hits and a walk, making up for his shaky pitching with a stellar performance at the plate. He hit a titanic three-run homer and finished a double shy of the cycle on a night the Orioles hit three home runs off him. The last person to reach base five times in a game he started on the mound was Mel Stottlemyre of the New York Yankees, on Sept. 26, 1964, against Washington.

Trayce Thompson drew a walk on a full count with the bases loaded and a full count off Jorge López (1-1) to give Los Angeles the victory. Will Smith also went deep as the Dodgers. Los Angeles led 6-3 thru seven innings before the game saw three ties and three lead changes in the final five frames. Minnesota’s Trevor Larnach hit a game-tying home run in the eighth inning.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Oakland Athletics have reached an agreement with Bally’s and Gaming &amp; Leisure Properties to build a potential stadium on the Tropicana hotel site along the Las Vegas Strip. Bally’s on Monday unveiled plans for a 30,000-seat stadium on the 35-acre site. The project is expected to cost about $1.5 billion. The A’s are asking for nearly $400 million in public support from the Nevada Legislature, which could vote on a proposal this week.

NEW YORK (AP) — The pitch clock has sped up baseball as hoped, and it might be leading to more exciting endings, too. A quarter of the way through Major League Baseball’s first season with the pitch timer, relief pitchers seem to be bearing the most stress from it, with save conversions dropping to 61.4% from 67.8% at a similar point last season. The save percentage is near the bottom range of the past decade, which averaged 65.1%, MLB said Monday. The high was 70% in 2015 and the low 61% in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Pitchers say the stress of the late innings has become more difficult to process with the pitch clock.

DENVER (AP) — The Denver Nuggets aren't concerned about their horrendous history against the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA playoffs as they begin their Western Conference finals against L.A. on Tuesday night. The Nuggets have lost all seven times they've faced the Lakers in the playoffs, including inside the NBA bubble in 2020. But coach Michael Malone said his team is focused on continuing its stellar play regardless of whether it's against their nemesis or not. Neither team has a home game in the playoffs but it's the Nuggets who own the homecourt advantage as the West's top-seeded team.

DALLAS (AP) — Roope Hintz and Wyatt Johnston scored goals and the Dallas Stars advanced to the Western Conference final with a 2-1 win over the Seattle Kraken in Game 7. Dallas moves on to play first-year coach Pete DeBoer’s former team, the Vegas Golden Knights. Game 1 of the West final is Friday night in Las Vegas. DeBoer improved to 7-0 in Game 7s. A day after his 20th birthday, Johnston made it 2-0 with 7:12 left, when he gathered a puck that ricocheted off the back board to the left of the Seattle net and scored. Jake Oettinger had 22 saves, and the only Seattle score came with 17.6 seconds left.

NEWTON – The No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team earned several honors on Monday night at the NJCAA Division I National Golf Banquet.

Veteran head coach Chris Young and freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/lindstrom_alex_7wqw">Alex Lindstrom</a>&nbsp;highlighted the night of honors for the Blue Dragons.

Young was inducted into the NJCAA Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Lindstrom was named the Phil Mickelson NJCAA National Freshman of the Year.

The two-time defending national champion Blue Dragons start their run at a third national title early Tuesday morning at Sand Creek Station in Newton.

Young was introduced by former Dodge City head coach Casey Malek on Monday evening. The Blue Dragon head coach was also named the Central District Coach of the Year.

Lindstrom, a native of Halmstad, Sweden, is the third Blue Dragon to win Mickelson Freshman of the Year award. Lindstrom joins Charlie Crocket (2019) and Ben Partridge (2021) as Blue Dragon players to earn the Mickelson Award.

Lindstrom recorded Top-11 finishes in all seven spring tournaments, collecting individual wins at KJCCC No. 2 and the KJCCC Championship to become the fourth-straight Blue Dragon to win the Jayhawk Conference Individual Champion award.

Joining Lindstrom on the Golf Coaches' Association of America NJCAA 2023 all-Freshman team are Gaspar Glaudas of Indian Hills, Travis Robbie of New Mexico JC, Adam Vermut of Eastern Florida State, and Thomas Vestergaard of Midland.

Lindstrom and sophomores&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/clemons_dominic_18vf">Dominic Clemons</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/saffell_blake_2ov2">Blake Saffell</a>&nbsp;were all named to the 2023 all-Central District team.

Clemons and Lindstrom were named GCAA PING All-Americans as first-team selections. Saffell was an honorable mention PING All-Americans.

Since 2019, the Blue Dragons have had 11 PING All-Americans.

The No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team begins its quest for a third-straight national championship on Tuesday when the Blue Dragons open play at the 2023 NJCAA Division I Championships at Sand Creek Station in Newton.

The Blue Dragons open the 72-hole national tournament with tee times on Tuesday from 7:50 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Round 2 tee times on Wednesday are from 1:20 to 2 p.m. the No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons will be paired with No. 2 New Mexico Junior College and No. 3 Midland College in the first two rounds.

Hutchinson bids to accomplish something that hasn't been done in Blue Dragon men's golf since 2001 … that accomplishment is to win three-straight team championships. The last team to win three in a row was Central Alabama from 1999 to 2001.

The Blue Dragons started the current championship streak in 2021 at The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas. The Dragons saw a sizable lead entering the final round dwindle to two strokes over Odessa, but went on to win the team title at 16-under par 1,136. Ben Partridge, Harry Crockett and Cameron Rios-Ceballos earned All-America honors and Partridge defeated Crockett in a four-hole playoff to earn the program's first individual national championships.

Last year at the Odessa Country Club, the Blue Dragons won a second-straight national championship with the widest margin of victory since 2000 with a 20-stroke victory over Odessa. The Dragons posted a 72-hole record of 22-under par 1,130.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/clemons_dominic_18vf">Dominic Clemons</a>&nbsp;lost a two-hole playoff for the individual national championship. Clemons, Partridge,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/saffell_blake_2ov2">Blake Saffell</a>&nbsp;and Crockett all earned NJCAA All-Americans.

Clemons and Saffell return from that championship team.

The 2023 Blue Dragons won five tournaments, tying for the second-most team wins this season. The Dragons won their fourth-straight Jayhawk Conference championship and freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/lindstrom_alex_7wqw">Alex Lindstrom</a>&nbsp;became the fourth-straight Hutchinson player to win the individual KJCCC championship.

The Dragons have three golfers in the GolfStat Top 20 NJCAA rankings this season.

Clemons is ranked No. 2 in the rankings with a stroke average of 72.11. Lindstrom is seventh with a stroke average of 72.33 and Saffell is 13th at 73.11 strokes per round.

The Blue Dragons qualified for their 22nd-straight national tournament with a third-place performance at the Plains Regional Tournament at Crestview-North in Wichita two weeks ago.

BUHLER, Kan.&nbsp;— The Buhler High School girls soccer season came to a close on Monday evening, falling 2-0 to Wichita Trinity at Crusader Stadium.

The Knights opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, and then would add another goal in the 60th minute to seal the win.

Buhler ends the season with a 7-9-1 record, while Wichita Trinity improves to 8-8-0 and will advance to play at Wichita Independent (13-3-0) on Thursday in the regional championship game.

⚾ Miller's complete game propels Haven to regional semi

HAYS, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson High School boys golf team placed second at the KSHSAA class 5A regional on Monday at Smoky Hill Country Club in Hays. The Salthawks finished two strokes behind Salina South for the regional championship.&nbsp;

The Cougars shot a 353, while the Salthawks recorded a 355. Hays High came in third place with a 359.

Hutchinson senior Ty Adkins recorded a 7-over par score of 78 to claim the top spot on the individual leaderboard, while Salina South sophomore Jackson Perry finished second with a 10-over par score of 81.

Junior Roman Kulick-Hart and sophomore Mitchell Rice finished tied for 10th place with a 20-over score of 91 to finish as the second and third highest Salthawks on the leaderboard.

This is the fifth weekly honor of the season for Tolle and his first selection as Pitcher of the Week. He was previously named Player of the Week on March 6 and April 24. Rodden's&nbsp;Honor Roll selection is his first this season after earning three such awards in 2022. Tolle became the first Shocker pitcher since Charlie Lowell in 2011 to win nine games in a season, picking up the victory in Saturday's 9-2 win over South Florida. MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas State Director of Athletics Gene Taylor announced today that head football coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/chris-klieman/1976">Chris Klieman</a>, who guided the Wildcats to a Big 12 Championship in 2022, has signed a new eight-year contract that sees him at the helm of the program through the 2030 season.

Klieman, who is entering his fifth year in Manhattan in 2023, will be paid an average base salary of $5.5 million throughout the life of the contract. "Chris has done an unbelievable job building a program in four years that not only has won a Big 12 Championship, but even more importantly, one that players have taken great pride in and helped sustain a championship culture," Taylor said. "He is a tremendous fit for K-State and Manhattan, and we want to continue to ride the momentum that he and his staff have fostered. We are excited that Chris will be the leader of our football program for many years to come." Klieman holds a 30-20 record at K-State, which includes a 10-4 record last season when the Wildcats won the 2022 Big 12 Championship with a 31-28 overtime victory over No. 3 TCU. When asked whether the 26-year-old right-hander will be out for days, weeks or months, Black said “probably on the longer end of that.”

(AP) — William Byron avoided a wreck between Ross Chastain and Kyle Larson on a restart six laps from the end and held on to win the Goodyear 400 in overtime at Darlington Raceway. Byron was pushed out of the lead by eventual winner Joey Logano two laps from the end here a year ago. This time, Byron watched as Chastain and Larson collided, then drove away from Kevin Harvick for his third win this year and the seventh of his career. It was the 100th win for the No. 24 car of Hendrick Motorsports.McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Jason Day has his first PGA Tour victory in five years at the Byron Nelson. The Australian shot a 9-under 62 for a one-shot victory over Austin Eckroat and Si Woo Kim. Hometown favorite Scottie Scheffler finished three shots back. Day broke a tie with Scheffler with a chip-in birdie at the par-4 12th. Day finished at 23 under playing on Mother's Day a little more than a year after losing his mom to cancer. Day's win came the week before the PGA Championship.
