KANSAS CITY, Mo.&nbsp;— The Kansas City Royals announced on Monday they have designated Jackie Bradley Jr. for assignment and have called up outfielder Dairon Blanco.

Blanco started in left field on Monday night in the Royals loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Blanco went 1-for-4 at the plate in the <a href="https://hutchpost.com/posts/077ab6c6-6706-49b2-a5af-cd93ac2fa338">5-4 loss</a>.

⚾ Royals DFA Bradley Jr., call up Blanco

HUTCHINSON, Kan.&nbsp;— Jaden Gustafson is playing his summer baseball with the Hutchinson Monarchs after playing this past spring at Wichita State.

The Maize native went into the transfer portal following the announcement of Loren Hibbs not being retained as head coach following the 2023 season.

Wichita State announced on Tuesday that Gustafson will be returning to play for head coach Brian Green and the Shockers in 2024.

Gustafson appeared in 27 games for the Shockers in the spring, starting 13 of those. He hit .260 with a double, triple and seven RBI.&nbsp;

⚾ Current Monarch withdraws from transfer portal, will return to WSU

HUTCHINSON, Kan.&nbsp;— The next time the Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons and the Hutchinson High School Salthawks take the field, they will be playing on new turf at Gowans Stadium.

The current turf at Gowans Stadium, which was installed in February of 2015, is being torn up and will be replaced with AstroTurf RootZone 3D3 blend. According to the HutchCC Board of Trustees meeting from April 13, the cost will be $300,000.00. The new turf will come with a new 10-year warranty and 10-year maintenance contract. The initial cost of the turf replacement approved in December, 2014 was $697,415.00.

"The current turf at Gowans had an eight year lifespan and it started to show signs of degradation," HutchCC Athletic Director Josh Gooch said. "We're putting our warranty to use and look forward to having a new playing surface ready by July."

The AstroTurf website says the RootZone 3D3 Blend combines three unique fibers in one system (RootZone, Trionic Monofilament, and ultra-durable slit film). The RootZone 3D3 Blend also offers both durability and aesthetics and is the most popular system under the AstroTurf products.&nbsp;

"The field design will be the exact same," Gooch said. "We will have the most up-to-date turf that there is on the market. I think it is a classy look for all the entities that use Gowans, and it allows for everybody to be showcased on that venue."

The current turf has hosted a Kansas State High School Activities Association championship football game the past nine seasons, as well as the Kansas Shrine Bowl game in 2021.

"There are really many neat moments that happened on this turf," Gooch said. "I think hosting the Shrine Bowl and what that means to all of those kids and having that event here in Hutchinson and Gowans Stadium is one that I'll probably think back on the most. Each high school state championship there are a lot of fun, but there are several moments I'll think back on."

If everything goes as planned, the turf will be ready to go by the first of July.

"They started ripping the turf up today and it will take about three days for removal," Gooch said. "Friday, some foundation type work will take place. Then about 12 days the contract has them to be done by the first of July."

The first artificial turf at Gowans Stadium was installed in 2004 and lasted 11 seasons. Gowans Stadium was built in the 1930s and has been the home of HutchCC and Hutch High football since it opened. It has also been the home of the Blue Dragon men's and women's track and field teams, plus home to the Salthawks track and field teams.

The video board beyond the south end zone at Gowans Stadium was added in April, 2022.

Hutchinson Community College Baseball sophomore right-fielder&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2022-23/bios/edmunson_will_rdcc">Will Edmunson</a>&nbsp;earned another honor after a tremendous season in 2023 on Monday by being named honorable mention on the NJCAA Division I All-America team.

Edmunson's .454 batting average for the 2023 season was the fourth-best single-season average in Blue Dragon baseball history. The sophomore from Luther, Oklahoma, was named the 2023 Jayhawk West Player of the Year in May.

Edmunson becomes the 17th Blue Dragon Baseball All-American in program history. This is the fourth-straight season the Blue Dragons have had a player earn All-America status. That list includes Zane Schmidt in 2019, Austin Callahan in 2021 and Ben McLaughlin in 2022. There was no All-America team in 2020 because the Coronavirus Pandemic wiped out that season.

Edmunson became the first Blue Dragon to win the Jayhawk Conference batting championship since Michael Helman in 2017.

The Blue Dragon outfielder hit .454 with 93 total hits, 17 doubles, four triples and 51 RBIs, hitting primarily out of the No. 2 slot in the batting order. Edmunson scored 78 runs, walked 23 times, was hit with pitches 16 times and had a team-high 15 stolen bases this season.

Edmunson started the season with a 16-game hitting streak, which tied Brock Schaffer and Ben McLaughlin for the fifth-longest hitting streak in program history. Edmunson also put together hitting streaks of 12 and 10 games this season.

Edmunson had 33 multi-hit games, including five three-hit games, a four-hit game against Pratt on March 19 and a five-hit game against Southeast Nebraska on February 11.

In addition to Edmunson leading the KJCCC in batting, he also led the league and was sixth in the NJCAA in total hits. He was second in the KJCCC runs scored and on-base percentage (.532) and was sixth in the Jayhawk in slugging percentage (.737). Edmunson had a team-high 23-game streak of reaching base this season.

Edmunson's 93 total hits ranked fourth in Blue Dragon single-season history. His 78 runs scored tied Logan Sartori and Shane Cooper for second on the single-season list. He 151 total baes were seventh most in team single-season history.

Edmunson's .424 career batting average ranks No. 4 in Blue Dragon career statistical history.

He became the 51st Blue Dragon in program history to reach 100 career hits, closing his career with 106.

Pinch-hitter Kevin Newman’s sacrifice fly in the ninth gave the Reds a 4-3 lead, but Buck Farmer allowed a tying homer to Salvador Perez with two outs in the bottom half.

Cincinnati quickly recovered. Friedl, the automatic runner at second base, advanced to third on Matt McLain’s groundout to first leading off the 10th. India then hit a grounder and Friedl scored as Perez couldn’t corral third baseman Maikel Garcia’s low throw to the plate.

“The Friedl slide, that’s part of our game. The running, going on contact,” Reds manager David Bell said. “Jonathan had a great at-bat and TJ did exactly what you need to do to get his foot in just barely.”

Friedl was initially ruled out by plate umpire C.B. Bucknor, but the call was overturned following a replay review.

“This is what it’s supposed to feel like,” Bell said. “Especially the way it ended. It’s a lot of fun. Even though it was a little bit more difficult than you could ever want, it felt like it was a little bit meant to finish that way.”

Farmer (2-3) got five outs for the win and Ricky Karcher, called up from the minors Friday, pitched out of trouble in the 10th to earn the save in his major league debut.

“You can only dream to go in in a save opportunity in your first big league game,” Karcher said. “I’ve worked my whole life for this day. It’s awesome.”

“What a great way to start your career,” Bell said. “It doesn’t really get much more difficult than that, to find a way to navigate through that.”

Stuart Fairchild homered early for the Reds, who have won six of eight and are 3-3 in extra innings.

“With this team, every win we have is exciting,” Friedl said. “It’s been that way since April — all these wins for us are huge. Every game is competitive.”

Carlos Hernandez (0-4) took the loss for the reeling Royals, who have dropped 10 of 11. They are 0-3 in extra innings and have blown a lead in 23 losses this season, matching the Cardinals for most in the majors.

Kansas City (18-48) is tied with suddenly streaking Oakland (18-50) for the fewest wins in the majors.

The Royals jumped ahead on Michael Massey’s two-out, two-run double in the first. Massey had just two singles in 25 at-bats this month before doubling in each of his first two plate appearances.

Nick Pratto’s second-inning sacrifice fly made it 3-0.

Fairchild got Cincinnati on the scoreboard, hammering the first pitch of the third 421 feet to left-center for his third homer.

“So many guys made plays — very difficult things to do that led to the win,” Bell said. “It’s a great team win.”

The Reds tied it 3-all as Luke Maile and Friedl opened the sixth with consecutive doubles, chasing Royals starter Zack Greinke. He allowed three runs and six hits, striking out four with no walks.

“(Greinke) performed well,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “They’re patient, and he throws a lot of strikes, but he was able to attack them. He threw the ball well.”

Cincinnati starter Luke Weaver exited with two outs in the fifth, having allowed three runs on five hits and four walks.

Royals right fielder MJ Melendez threw out two runners trying for third base, helping curtail rallies in the first and seventh.

Kansas City left stranded 10, going 1 for 14 with runners in scoring position.

“We were challenged on some at-bats and missed some pitches to hit,” Quatraro said. “Other at-bats, hit the ball pretty well and didn’t get anything for it. I don’t think there’s one reason we didn’t drive guys in, but the end result is we didn’t. It’s been frustrating to not be able to open a game up.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — The leader of a Senate subcommittee wants the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's LIV Golf to present records about negotiations that led to their new agreement and plans for what golf will look like under the arrangement. Sen. Richard Blumenthal sent letters to PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and LIV CEO Greg Norman spelling out the "serious questions regarding the reasons for and terms behind the announced agreement." Blumenthal, who is chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, said he also wanted to hear the tour's plans to retain its tax-exempt status. Last week, LIV and the tour stunned the golf world by agreeing to merge the PGA Tour and European tour with the Saudi golf interests, while dropping all lawsuits between the parties.

Browns' Winfrey has assault charged dismissed after he completed diversion program

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey had a misdemeanor assault charge against him dropped in Texas after he completed a pretrial diversion program. According to Harris County Court documents, Winfrey's case was dismissed on June 9. The 22-year-old Winfrey had been arrested in April after he allegedly became violent in an argument with a woman he was dating. Winfrey has had a turbulent tenure with Cleveland since the Browns drafted him in the fourth round in 2022. He was disciplined by the team last season on at least two occasions, and Winfrey acknowledged he needed to mature as a professional.

Accustomed to playing with injuries, Panthers prepare for Game 5

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Florida Panthers took the ice for Monday's practice without several key players, most notably Matthew Tkachuk. The Panthers also were seemingly without any concern as they prepare for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Vegas Golden Knights, down 3-1 in the series. The common theme in the Panthers' locker room after practice was referring to their 3-1 series comeback in the opening round against the Presidents' Trophy-winning Boston Bruins. BREMEN, Germany (AP) — Kai Havertz has helped Germany salvage a 3-3 draw with Ukraine in a charity friendly that leaves neither team happy from a sporting perspective. Viktor Tsyhankov had scored twice for Ukraine to come from behind and lead 3-1 in Serhiy Rebrov's debut as coach. It put his team on course for its first ever win over Germany. But Havertz pulled one back in the 83rd minute, and was then fouled for a penalty that Joshua Kimmich converted in injury time for the equalizer. The German soccer federation was donating the proceeds from the game to victims of Russia's war in Ukraine. Germany's performance will do little to restore confidence in the team a year before the country hosts the European Championship.

MILAN (AP) — Former Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi dominated Italian soccer for decades just like he commanded the show in Italian politics. AC Milan enjoyed years of dominance during his 30-year ownership. The team won 29 trophies before he sold the club in 2017. Berlusconi then empowered Monza up to Serie A for the first time in its history after reuniting with Adriano Galliani. Berlusconi was always a very hands-on owner and never shy about dictating player lineups to his coaches. Berlusconi has died at the age of 86.

Top teams not worried when NASCAR Cup Series takes only break in grinding schedule

SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — The relentless grind of the NASCAR Cup Series pauses this week, and just about everybody involved with the cars is looking to take advantage. This is the teams' sole weekend without a race between the Daytona 500 on Feb. 19 and the Cup Series championship at Phoenix on Nov. 5. But for the teams and drivers doing their best work right before the start of the 10-race sprint to the 10-race Cup playoffs, this one-week break is a mixed blessing. HUTCHINSON, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson Monarchs scored nine runs in their final three innings to come from behind and beat the Derby Twins, 12-9 on Monday night at Hobart-Detter Field.&nbsp;

The game featured 21 combined runs, 29 combined hits and 10 combined errors, and was a game that saw a little bit of everything.

Derby (4-3) scored at least one run in each of it's first five innings and led 6-3 through five complete. The Monarchs quickly got to Derby reliever Jude Stephens, scoring three in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game up at six apiece.&nbsp;

The Twins had an answer to the Monarchs rally with one of their own, including a three-run inning to regain a 9-6 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. Hutchinson (2-2) saw it's first four batters in the inning reach safely, all of which would come home to score a run. The big hit would be a 2-run single up the middle by Will Edmunson to tie the game at nine. Caleb Cotton scored the go-ahead run after a balk was called against Stephens with two outs.

The Monarchs tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on a 2-run double from Cotton to extend the lead to 12-9.

Noah Kelley earned his second win in as many nights, as he went three innings of relief, allowing four runs. Former Nickerson High School standout Carson Cornelius was credited with the save, striking out five in two innings of work.&nbsp;

Cotton led the Monarchs with a three-hit game, and was one of five Hutchinson hitters with a multi-hit game.&nbsp;

The two teams will play again on Tuesday night in Derby with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. from Panther Field. The series will wrap up on Wednesday in Hutchinson and can be viewed exclusively on Hutch Post.

WICHITA, Kan.&nbsp;— The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame (KSHOF) has announced the members of the class of 2023 who will be inducted on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at the Kansas Star Casino.

The KSHOF is also proud to announce the Kansas Star Casino as the host and title sponsor for the 2023 KSHOF Induction Ceremony on October 1. This is the fifth year the Kansas Star Casino has been the title sponsor and is the fourth year of hosting the event.

WICHITA, Kan.&nbsp;— Wichita State two-way star Payton Tolle is the latest Shockers baseball player to enter the transfer portal.&nbsp;

The Yukon, Oklahoma native was the last of the Shockers players from this past season to remain on the team after Loren Hibbs was not retained as head coach.

Tolle shined as both a pitcher and a hitter for Wichita State in the spring. He hit .311 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI, while recording 20 multi-hit games and 18 multi-RBI games.&nbsp;

On the mound, Tolle went 9-3 with a 4.62 ERA in 14 starts and 15 appearances. He had 97 strikeouts and only 19 walks issued in 85.2 innings pitched. Tolle struck out double-digit hitters in four of his 14 starts.

Bacianskaite, a native of Panevezys, Lithuania, earns All-America honors for the first time in her career, while becoming the 13th Wildcat to do so in the heptathlon and the first since&nbsp;Lauren Taubert&nbsp;and&nbsp;Ariel Okorie&nbsp;in 2021. Bacianskaite's new personal-best total of 5,790 points is the sixth-best mark in school history and the best since Taubert scored 5,831 points at the 2021 Jim Click Shootout. Bacianskaite's previous best score of 5,691 points came earlier this year at the Jim Click Shootout on April 6-7. Nuggets try to avoid letdown with 1 win to go for team's first title

DENVER (AP) — Everything from the history books to the way they've played through most of the postseason suggests the Denver Nuggets are on the verge of capturing their first NBA title in 47 years in the league. The goal now for Denver is to avoid a letdown against the Miami Heat in what will be the first title-clinching opportunity in franchise history. The Nuggets are trying to keep their minds on hoops, not that trophy, and the mission could be helped by the fact that Miami's only win in this series came a week ago in Denver. Also, the Heat have won seven road games during the postseason.

Novak Djokovic wins his 23rd Grand Slam title by beating Casper Ruud in the French Open final

PARIS (AP) — Novak Djokovic has won his men's-record 23rd Grand Slam title with a 7-6 (1), 6-3, 7-5 victory over Casper Ruud in the French Open final. Djokovic broke a tie with Rafael Nadal for the most major singles trophies in the history of men's tennis. Nadal is a 14-time champion at Roland Garros who missed the tournament because he is injured. Djokovic adds to the French Open titles he earned in 2016 and 2021. He is the only man with at least three titles from each major. He also won 10 trophies at the Australian Open, seven at Wimbledon and three at the U.S. Open.

Nick Taylor wins Canadian Open, first Canadian champion since 1954

TORONTO (AP) — Nick Taylor became the first Canadian in 69 years to win his national open, holing a 72-foot eagle putt on the fourth playoff hole to beat Tommy Fleetwood in the RBC Canadian Open. Taylor tossed his putter into the air and jumped into the arms of his caddie after the longest made putt of his PGA Tour career. Fellow Canadian players Mike Weir, Corey Conners and Adam Hadwin were among those who ran out to the green to congratulate him. Hadwin was tackled on the green by a security guard. The last player from Canada to win the Canadian Open was Pat Fletcher in 1954 at Point Grey in Vancouver.

Golden Knights try not to think of Stanley Cup returning to Vegas on verge of title

The Vegas Golden Knights left Florida on the verge of winning the Stanley Cup. The trophy will be in the building the next time they play. That's back at home in Game 5 of the final on Tuesday night against the Panthers. But the immediate task at hand for players and coaches is not to dwell on how close they are to the franchise's first title. The Golden Knights have shown all playoffs and throughout this series that they are championship-worthy.

Status of Tkachuk is biggest question facing Panthers down 3-1 in Stanley Cup Final

The status of leading scorer Matthew Tkachuk is the biggest question facing the Florida Panthers down 3-1 to Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final. Tkachuk left for a stretch during the third period of Game 4 because of an undisclosed injury. Coach Paul Maurice said any of his injured players would be treated before and after flying to Las Vegas for Game 5. Florida would make history by becoming the first team in 81 years to erase a 3-1 deficit in the final.

Martin Truex Jr. surges to 4th career Sonoma Raceway victory

SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — Martin Truex Jr. has won at Sonoma Raceway for the fourth time. He passed Chase Elliott for the lead after a late restart and held off Kyle Busch for his second NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season. Truex confidently drove his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to another victory on the hilly road course at the base of Northern California wine country, where he also won in 2013, 2018 and 2019. Only Jeff Gordon with five has more victories at Sonoma than Truex, who earned the 33rd win of his Cup career and his second in the last six races.

Sue Bird commands floor once more as her No. 10 retired by the Seattle Storm

SEATTLE (AP) — For more than two hours, Sue Bird was back commanding the middle of the court. At times funny, at times emotional, Bird's 21-year career received a ceremony that matched the longevity of her basketball exploits when the Seattle Storm retired the No. 10 she wore during her WNBA career. The event pushed nearly three hours in total length with Bird's speech taking up more than half that amount. But it was the comprehensive closure that never materialized after Bird's career ended in the 2022 WNBA playoffs. It was a chance for Bird to share her thanks to former coaches, teammates, family, friends and fans who watched her win four WNBA titles and five Olympic gold medals.

Oral Roberts claims surprise College World Series bid; Wake Forest, LSU, Virginia also win supers

Oral Roberts will continue its surprising NCAA baseball tournament run in the College World Series after beating Oregon 11-6 in the deciding game of their super regional. No. 1 national seed Wake Forest, No. 5 LSU and No. 7 Virginia also won super regionals to advance. No. 2 Florida and TCU clinched CWS bids Saturday. Winners from the Texas-Stanford and Tennessee-Southern Mississippi super regionals will earn the other two CWS spots. Oral Roberts is the lowest-seeded team to reach the CWS in Omaha, Nebraska, since Stony Brook in 2012.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Gunnar Henderson homered for the second consecutive day, and the Baltimore Orioles defeated Kansas City 11-3 on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep and extend the Royals’ losing streak to six.

Starter Kyle Gibson earned his fourth consecutive victory for Baltimore, while Ramón Urías had four hits and Ryan O’Hearn homered as part of a three-hit day that also included two walks and four runs scored. The Orioles (41-24) have won four in a row for the first time since May 9-13 and are 17 games over .500 for the first time since July 26, 2016.

It was Baltimore’s fourth series sweep of the season and first since May 19-21 at Toronto.

Baltimore manager Brandon Hyde moved Henderson into the leadoff spot Saturday for the first time this year, and the infielder responded with a second-inning home run as part of a two-hit day.

Henderson already had two hits and a run Sunday when he smashed reliever Jackson Kowar’s slider 462 feet to right for a&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Orioles/status/1667982633614073857">three-run blast onto Eutaw Street</a>&nbsp;in the seventh inning.

“That was loud coming off the bat,” Hyde said.

In nine games since May 30, Henderson is hitting .406 (13 for 32) and has raised his batting average from .199 to .236.

“It just goes to show me that no matter what you're going through, you're going to get through it," Henderson said. “Just keep swinging and just keep trusting the process. It's hard to do. I'll be the first one to tell you it's really hard to do in the moment.”

Salvador Perez homered for Kansas City, which has dropped nine of 10. The Royals (18-47) have the second-worst record in the majors, ahead of only Oakland, and have scored eight runs in their last five games.

Kansas City was 2 for 17 with runners in scoring position during the series. The Royals were swept for the seventh time this season, matching their 2022 total.

“I don’t think there’s one magic button you push to all of the sudden spark a lineup or anything,” Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro said. “I think it’s consistency of the work and preparation, the quality of the at-bats and hope that we start to string some of them together.”

The Orioles took the lead for good in the third against Mike Mayers (1-2), who loaded the bases before recording the inning’s first out. Josh Lester then singled up the middle to score two runs, and James McCann followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-3.

Aaron Hicks added an RBI double in the fourth against Mayers, who yielded four runs in five innings of relief for the Royals.

Gibson (8-3) allowed three runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. The 35-year-old right-hander is 4-0 with a 2.61 ERA over his last five starts.

The Orioles took a 3-1 lead against opener Carlos Hernández thanks to Austin Hays’ sacrifice fly and Urías’ two-run double. Kansas City tied it in the third on Perez’s two-run homer to left-center off Gibson.

Orioles: 1B Ryan Mountcastle (illness) remained out of the lineup. Mountcastle has missed four of the last five games after appearing in all but one of Baltimore’s first 60 games. … C Adley Rutschman had a routine day off.

Royals: RHP Zack Greinke (1-6, 4.59 ERA) starts Monday as Kansas City returns home to begin a series with Cincinnati. Greinke is 8-2 with a 2.38 ERA in 14 career starts against the Reds.

Orioles: Baltimore is off Monday. Baltimore has not announced its pitching plans for Tuesday, when its homestand continues against Toronto.

⚾ Orioles roll past Royals to complete sweep

SAN ANTONIO, TX - On a hot and humid day in Texas, Alerick Soularie caught on fire. He hit two home runs, had five RBIs, stole a base and was the driving force for the Wind Surge scoring. The Wind Surge defeated the Missions 8-7 to close out of the series.

The Surge extended their streak of offensive production in the second inning to four games. Soularie crushed a ball, delivered in the middle of the strike zone by Missions pitcher Daniel Camarena, out of the park over the center field wall for a solo home run.

The Missions tied the game in the bottom of the second. Starting pitcher Blayne Enlow escaped the inning after loading the bases with only one run given up.

Camerena’s day came to an end in the top of the fourth. After walking two Surge batters and allowing them to advance to scoring position he was replaced by Jose Quezada. After the pitching change, Soularie kept his bat hot and smoked a line drive to center field that proved too much for the Missions center fielder Tirso Ornelas. As the ball rolled up and over his glove Alex Isola and Aaron Sabato were able to run home. Quezada sent a wild pitch past the catcher and Soularie made it home adding another run for the Surge.

Enlow dug his heels in and got himself out of a difficult bottom fourth inning after he allowed a triple and hit two Missions batters by pitch. He forced the Missions to end the inning with the bases loaded after he struck Ornelas out swinging.

In the top of the sixth after getting walked, Sabato stole second base and put himself in scoring position. Justin Lopez for the Missions walked another batter that then set up Soularie to hit his second home run of the day. The three-run shot over the left field wall added more cushion to the Surge lead.

After pitching five innings and giving up only one run Blayne Enlow’s day was over. Carlos Luna came in to replace him in the bottom of the sixth. He was able to pick off a runner on a throw to first base and had a strike out but did unfortunately did give up one run on a sacrifice fly by Kervin Pichardo to right field.

San Antonio continued to chip away at the Surge lead when Pedro Castellanos hit a two-run home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the seventh.

In the bottom of the eighth Chandler Seagle singled on a ground ball hit to right field that drove in a run for the Missions. Michael Boyle then came in to pitch for the Surge and recorded two strikeouts to keep the Missions rally at bay.

San Antonio refused to give up and got their bats going in the bottom of the ninth. Ray-Patrick Didder hit a two-run home run to make it a one run game. Jordan Brink earned the save when he held the Missions back from securing the come behind win and struck out the final batter swinging.

Enlow earned the win for the Surge and Camerena got the loss for the Missions.

The Wichita Wind Surge improve to 23-33 and the San Antonio Missions fall to 31-26. The Missions take the series 4-2.

NOTES: Soularie set career bests as a professional with his first two home run game and his first five RBI game. Soulaire’s five RBI day is second most for the Wind Surge this season, David Banuelos six on May 10 at Frisco. He also becomes the second Wind Surge player this season with two home runs in a game.

⚾ Wichita Wind Surge and Soularie catches fire in San Antonio

BUHLER, Kan.&nbsp;— The Hutchinson Monarchs and Great Bend Bat Cats split a doubleheader on Sunday evening at Wheatland Park in Buhler. The Monarchs won the first game, 6-5, before falling in the second, 6-0.

The two teams opened the three-game series on Thursday in Great Bend, and were scheduled to play again on Friday in Great Bend and on Saturday in Hutchinson. The Friday and Saturday games were both postponed to unplayable fields, so two seven-inning games were rescheduled games on Sunday in Buhler.

The Monarchs won the first game, 6-5, before falling in the second, 6-0.The two teams opened the three-game series on Thursday in Great Bend, and were scheduled to play again on Friday in Great Bend and on Saturday in Hutchinson.
