MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas State will take on George Washington to conclude the first round of the 2024 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam on Friday, November 22, as tournament organizers announced the complete bracket for the tournament on Tuesday morning&nbsp;(July 9).

The annual Paradise Jam will run from Friday-Monday, November 22-25, 2024, at the University of Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. This will mark the tournament's 24th&nbsp;year with K-State appearing for the third time (2002, 2018, 2024) in its existence, including a championship in 2018.

K-State and the Atlantic 10's George Washington will meet for the sixth time in their respective histories in the final game of the first day of the tournament at 7 p.m., CT on Friday, November 22. Big South Tournament champion Longwood and AAC Tournament champion UAB will meet in the tournament opener at 11:30 a.m., CT followed by Illinois State and Southland Conference champion McNeese at 2 p.m., CT. Louisiana and Liberty will open the evening session at 4:30 p.m., CT followed by the Wildcats and Revolutionaries.

The K-State/GW winner will advance to face the winner of the contest between Louisiana and Liberty on Sunday, November 24 at 7 p.m., CT, while the two remaining teams will play on Saturday, November 23 at 4:30 p.m., CT.

In the opponent bracket, the winner of the first game between Longwood and UAB will play the winner of the second game between Illinois State and McNeese on Sunday, November 24 at 4:30 p.m., CT, while the two remaining teams will play on Saturday, November 23 at 2 p.m., CT.

The winner of each bracket will face off in the championship game on Monday, November 25 at 7 p.m., CT. There will be three consolation games that will precede the title contest at 11:30 a.m., CT (seventh-place game), 2 p.m., CT (fourth-place game) and 4:30 p.m., CT (third-place game), respectively.

All games will be streamed on ESPN platforms.

Six of the eight teams in the Paradise Jam won 18 or more games in 2023-24, while Longwood, McNeese and UAB all advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The Wildcats won the Cayman Islands Classic in head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/jerome-tang/2353">Jerome Tang</a>'s&nbsp;first season in 2022 before finishing as the runner-up at the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship in 2023.

K-State has already announced several aspects of its non-conference schedule, including the BIG EAST/Big 12 Battle at St. John's on Saturday, December 7 and the Wildcat Classic matchup with Drake on Tuesday, December 17 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL has suspended Pittsburgh Steelers safety Cam Sutton for the first eight games of the 2024 season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The suspension stems from Sutton’s involvement in an alleged domestic violence dispute in Florida in March. Sutton eventually surrendered to authorities and entered a pretrial diversion program in April after the charges were reduced from a felony to misdemeanor battery. His agreement with prosecutors required Sutton to take a mental health evaluation. The NFL did its own investigation into the incident, leading to the suspension. Sutton will be eligible to apply for reinstatement on Oct. 29.

(AP) — UConn and men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley have agreed to a six-year, $50 million contract through the 2029-30 season, nearly a month after he turned down a lucrative offer to coach the Los Angeles Lakers. Hurley, who passed on guiding the storied NBA club to return to the two-time defending NCAA champions, can also earn more through performance-based incentives, a Monday release from the school stated. He will receive $6.375 million next season, in addition to his $400,000 base annual salary, which includes compensation from speaking, consulting and media obligations. Hurley is 141-58 in six seasons with the Huskies.

UNDATED (AP) — Keegan Bradley is the next U.S. Ryder Cup captain for the 2025 matches at Bethpage Black. The PGA of America made the surprise announcement on Monday. It follows months of negotiations with Tiger Woods. That was the first choice. Woods was trying to decide if he had time to fulfill all the duties. Bradley will be one of the most inexperienced captains when the Americans try to win back the cup from Europe. He has played on only two Ryder Cup teams and both ended in losses. He last played in 2014 in Scotland. Bradley has never been an assistant.

LONDON (AP) — Taylor Fritz has come back after dropping the opening two sets to defeat two-time Grand Slam finalist Alexander Zverev 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 6-3 and reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Fritz is a 26-year-old from California who equaled his career-best showing at a major tournament. Monday's match was the 35th to go five sets at the All England Club this year, tying the record for the most at a Slam event in the Open era. And Fritz's comeback is the 11th from a two-set deficit in this edition of Wimbledon, more than in any other year. Fritz faces Lorenzo Musetti next.

LONDON (AP) — Maybe the Centre Court spectators were saluting Novak Djokovic’s opponent by saying his name. Maybe they were booing Djokovic, trying to rattle him. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was sure it was the latter — and he let everyone know he was not happy about it. Djokovic easily beat 15th-seeded Holger Rune 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in just over two hours Monday night to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals, then made sure to get a message across to those fans he thought were against him. Rune’s supporters at various tournaments often will stretch out his last name, saying, “Ruuuuuune!” — which sounds rather similar to “Boooooo!” — and that happened again Monday.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — For Ukrainian athletes, the Paris Olympics are more than just sports. They're a way to draw attention to their country's fight for survival against Russia — a sort of war on another battlefield. But an Associated Press analysis found Russia's war is making it increasingly difficult for Ukraine, once a post-Soviet sports power, to get those headline-capturing medals. Ukrainian performances began dipping after 2014, the year of Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea. Ukraine’s haul of 11 medals at the 2016 Rio Games was its smallest as an independent nation and it tumbled to a low of 22nd in the country rankings. Ukraine recovered to 16th at the pandemic-delayed Olympics in Tokyo in 2021 but just one of its 19 medals was gold — another new low.

NEWTON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs scored three runs in the top of the first inning and tacked on three more in the fifth to provide enough runs to defeat the Newton Rebels 8-6 in Newton on Monday night.

Blake Bradford continued to hit the ball well with three RBI's on the night and&nbsp;Cole Toureau pitched seven innings only giving up two hits to get the win.

Things got a little shaky in the eighth when the Rebels rallied for five runs but Jace Minor came on in relief for Camden Cornelius to shut the door on the Rebels.

Hutchinson will be on the road again on Tuesday night in Augusta taking on the Kansas Cannons with first pitch scheduled for 7pm.

The Monarchs will return home on Wednesday at Hobart-Detter field versus the Newton Rebels.

Holmberg shot a 9-over 81 opening round. He is currently tied for 9th place in the Neurological Impairment flight.

Kipp Popert (England) is currently atop of the leaderboard after shooting a 7-under 65. Juan Postigo (Spain) is in second place after posting a 5-under 67.

The U.S. Adaptive Open is open to both male and female professional and amateur golfers with a Handicap Index of 36.4 or less and an eligible impairment confirmed by a WR4GD Pass. The championship is contested over 54 holes of stroke play. Multiple sets of tees are utilized, and carts are permitted for all players and caddies. A player’s Handicap Index® is the primary factor in determining the field, with the USGA reserving at least five male player spots and two female player spots per impairment category. The tournament also has a cut for the first time.

The oldest competitor in this weeks event is Bruce Hooper (78) and Dennis Walters (74), while the youngest are Ryder Barr (15), Russell Aide (17), and Sophia Howard (17). The average age of the field is 36.4.

There are 32 states represented in the field, led by Michigan with six golfers. California and Tennessee each have five golfers, while Arizona, Florida and Texas each have four.&nbsp;

This is the second USGA championship conducted at Sand Creek Station, a public course that opened in 2006 and is managed by KemperSports. In 2014, Byron Meth defeated Doug Ghim in 37 holes in the 89th and final U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship ever contested. The course was designed by Jeffrey D. Brauer and is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. It takes its name from the Sand Creek, which borders several holes, and the town’s long history as a stop on the Atchison, Topeka &amp; Santa Fe Railway.&nbsp;

Klieman is one of 21 college football coaches selected to the preseason list.

Managed by Peach Bowl, Inc. and presented by PNC Bank, The Dodd Trophy, college football's most coveted national coaching award, celebrates the head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity – the three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd's coaching philosophy.

Klieman is 39-24 in five seasons as the head coach in Manhattan. Klieman helped guide the Wildcats to a 9-4 record in 2023.

The watch list was created through a selection process by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl, Inc. taking into consideration each program's Academic Progress Rate (APR), Graduation Success Rate (GSR), commitment to service and charity in the community, as well as projected success for the 2024 season.&nbsp;

 A midseason watch list – adding to or narrowing the field – will be released in the fall. A panel consisting of previous winners, national media, a member of the Dodd family and a College Football Hall of Fame member will identify the final list of potential recipients at the conclusion of the 2024 season. 🏈 Bethel College announces Stokes resigns as head coach

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Royals slugger Bobby Witt Jr. has announced he will participate in the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby on Monday, July 15 in Arlington, Texas.

The 24-year-old Witt is a Colleyville, Texas, native and grew up just north of Arlington. Witt becomes the fourth player to announce his spot in the eight-player field behind Orioles slugger Gunnar Henderson, Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm and Mets first baseman Pete Alonso.

Kansas has reached the postseason in each of the Paige&apos;s three seasons in Lawrence, including NCAA Tournament appearances in 2022 and 2024, and capturing the 2023 WNIT Championship. With Paige on the sidelines, KU has won at least 20 games in each of the past three seasons, the longest such streak for the program since 2011-13.
Last season, Kansas recorded two wins against Top 10 opponents and three wins over Top 25 foes, both of which marked the first time a KU team had accomplished since the 1999-2000 season. The Jayhawks earned the program&apos;s first win over Baylor since 2014, defeating the then-No. 4 Bears 87-66 on Jan. 10, 2024, which was the program&apos;s third win over a Top 5 opponent in school history and first since 2009. Kansas finished the season 20-13 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where KU faced top-seeded USC in one of the five most-watched second round games in tournament history.

From there the Shockers head to Lawrence, Kansas to take on the Jayhawks on Wednesday, September 4 before a quick turn-around to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the Wooo Pig Invitational, beginning on Friday, September 6 against host Arkansas. Wichita State takes on Little Rock the following day to round out the competition. The final road tournament of the season takes Wichita State to Lincoln, Nebraska for a high-profile weekend against three of the nation&apos;s top programs. The tournament also has a cut for the first time.The oldest competitor in this weeks event is Bruce Hooper (78) and Dennis Walters (74), while the youngest are Ryder Barr (15), Russell Aide (17), and Sophia Howard (17). The average age of the field is 36.4.There are 32 states represented in the field, led by Michigan with six golfers. California and Tennessee each have five golfers, while Arizona, Florida and Texas each have four.&nbsp;This is the second USGA championship conducted at Sand Creek Station, a public course that opened in 2006 and is managed by KemperSports. In 2014, Byron Meth defeated Doug Ghim in 37 holes in the 89th and final U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship ever contested. The course was designed by Jeffrey D. Brauer and is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. It takes its name from the Sand Creek, which borders several holes, and the town’s long history as a stop on the Atchison, Topeka &amp; Santa Fe Railway.&nbsp;

Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga joined Skenes and San Diego outfielder Jackson Merrill as the only rookies for the July 16 game at Arlington, Texas. At the Paris Olympics, it will no longer be personal for Ukraine's athletes. This time, it's war

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — For Ukrainian athletes, the Paris Olympics are more than just sports. They're a way to draw attention to their country's fight for survival against Russia — a sort of war on another battlefield. But an Associated Press analysis found Russia's war is making it increasingly difficult for Ukraine, once a post-Soviet sports power, to get those headline-capturing medals. Ukrainian performances began dipping after 2014, the year of Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea. Ukraine's haul of 11 medals at the 2016 Rio Games was its smallest as an independent nation and it tumbled to a low of 22nd in the country rankings. Ukraine recovered to 16th at the pandemic-delayed Olympics in Tokyo in 2021 but just one of its 19 medals was gold — another new low.

LONDON (AP) — Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and top-ranked Jannik Sinner are one win each away from meeting in the Wimbledon semifinals. Both reached the quarterfinals with victories Sunday. Alcaraz beat Ugo Humbert 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5, and Sinner eliminated Ben Shelton 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (9). Next for Alcaraz is a match against Tommy Paul. Sinner plays Daniil Medvedev, who advanced when Grigor Dimitrov stopped playing with an injury. French Open runner-up Jasmine Paolini reached her first Wimbledon quarterfinal when Madison Keys had to retire with a leg injury in the third set. Donna Vekic and Lulu Sun reached the quarterfinals, too.

Antetokounmpo, Greece head to Olympics. Brazil, Spain, Puerto Rico join them in Paris Games field

Giannis Antetokounmpo is now an Olympian. Antetokounmpo is heading to the Olympics for the first time, after he scored 23 points and Greece held off Croatia 80-69 on Sunday in one of the four men's basketball qualifying tournament finals being held to determine the final spots in the 12-team field for the Paris Games. Brazil also is going to the Paris Olympics, after a 19-0 run over the final 3:21 of the first quarter set the tone in what became a surprisingly easy 94-69 victory over Latvia. So is Spain, which held off the Bahamas for its seventh consecutive Olympic berth. And Puerto Rico grabbed the last spot by beating Lithuania.

Kevin Durant has calf strain, USA Basketball considers him day-to-day at Olympic camp

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Kevin Durant is dealing with calf soreness that has kept him from being a full participant in USA Basketball's training camp for the Paris Olympics, though he has assured team officials that he does not expect the issue to be a major one. Durant is the second forward who hasn't been able to be a full participant in the U.S. camp that had its second day of on-floor workouts Sunday; Boston forward Jayson Tatum was excused from the first two days of camp workouts for personal reasons and is expected to be on the floor with his U.S. teammates for the first time on Monday.

Ukrainian high jumper keeps her eye on the raised bar, but her mind is fixed on the war

MONTE GORDO, Portugal (AP) — Ukrainian athletes training for the Paris Olympics are torn between their sports demand for complete concentration on the here and now, and the war back home that is never far from their minds. Kateryna Tabashnyk is a 30-year-old high jumper who is training in southern Portugal. Her hometown, the city of Kharkiv, is under daily bombardment and she thinks often of the Russian missiles that have stolen so much: her mother, her apartment, a pain-free childhood for her nephew, even the fields where she trained. Her coach says she is among many Ukrainian athletes who feel the burden not just of being competitive but of using the international stage to draw attention to their country's struggle to survive.

Bronny James scratched from Lakers' 2nd California Classic game because of swelling in left knee

SAN FRANISCO (AP) — Bronny James was scratched from the Los Angeles Lakers' second California Classic game Sunday because of a swelling in his left knee, a day after scoring four points in his NBA Summer League debut. The son of Lakers superstar LeBron James sat in uniform at the end of the bench in the first half against Golden State, with a white wrap covering his left leg. He was seen picking at it a couple of times. On Friday night in a 108-94 loss Sacramento, James was 2 for 9 from field, missing all three of his 3-point attempts, and had two rebounds in 22 minutes. James was drafted by the Lakers with the 55th overall selection after a season at the University of Southern California.

Bowman wraps up a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs with a win on a rainy Chicago street course

CHICAGO (AP) — Alex Bowman secured a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs when he held on for the victory on a rainy street course in downtown Chicago. It was Bowman's first win since Las Vegas in March 2022 and No. 8 for his career. He is the 12th Cup Series driver to win this year, leaving four remaining spots in the playoffs with six races left in the regular season. The race was stopped for more than 100 minutes because of rain, and NASCAR set a cutoff time of 8:20 p.m. CDT because of the fading sunlight. Tyler Reddick made a late push, but he got into a wall trying to catch up to Bowman. Ty Gibbs was third, followed by Joey Hand and Michael McDowell.

Davis Thompson wins John Deere Classic with lowest score in tournament history

SILVIS, Ill. (AP) — Davis Thompson is a PGA Tour winner and it wasn't even close. Thompson opened with five birdies in six holes to pull away. He shot a 64 and set the 72-hole scoring record at the John Deere Classic at 28-under 256, winning by four strokes. The victory gets him in the British Open in two weeks. The Georgia native also goes to the Masters for the first time next April. The real battle was for second place. C.T. Pan tied for second with Florida State sophomore Luke Clanton and Stanford alum Michael Thorbjornsen. Pan gets the British Open spot based on his world ranking.

Alonso to compete in Home Run Derby for 5th time, joins Henderson and Bohm in July 15 field

Pete Alonso will participate in his fifth straight Home Run Derby, with the New York Mets first baseman trying to win for the third time. Baltimore's Gunnar Henderson and Philadelphia's Alec Bohm also have committed to the July 15 event at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Ken Griffey Jr. is the only three-time champion of the derby, which started in 1985, winning in 1994, 1998 and 1999. Alonso won the competition in 2019 as a rookie of Cleveland's Progressive Field, then repeated in 2021 at Denver's Coors Field.

HUTCINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs rallied with three runs in the bottom of the ninth Sunday at Hobart-Detter field to get a huge walk-off win over the Diamond Kings 6-5.

Hutch had scored three runs in the third to take the early lead before the Diamond Kings responded with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth.

That 3-2 lead held on for a couple more innings until the top of the 5th when the Diamond Kings took the lead at 5-3.

Hutchinson's Carson Cornelius came on in relief of Garrett Folmer in the top of the fifth before giving way to Reed Scott in the top of the eighth.

Trailing 5-3 going into the bottom of the ninth, Blake Bradford drew a walk to lead off the inning. Jaden Gustafson followed with a double into the right field corner scoring Bradford to cut the lead to 5-4. It was the third straight three hit game for Gustafson.

Jarrett Flaggert then doubled to score Gustafson and the game was tied 5-5 with the winning run at second.

A ground out moved Flaggert to third with one out in the inning. After a Diamond King pitching change with the infield drawn in, Sam Wiese grounded a single to right and the Monarchs walk it off 6-5.

Reed Scott gets the win, while Jordan Ellison takes the loss for the Kings.

Hutchinson travels to Newton on Monday before returning to host Newton on Wednesday night at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.&nbsp;— Major League Baseball announced on Sunday the rosters for the 2024 All-Star Game, which will be played on Tuesday, July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The American League team will feature four Royals players, including&nbsp;Salvador Perez,&nbsp;Bobby Witt Jr.&nbsp;and&nbsp;Seth Lugo&nbsp;(who were elected by the players) and&nbsp;Cole Ragans&nbsp;(who was selected by the Commissioner’s Office).

⚾ 4 Royals headed to All-Star Game

DENVER (AP) — Maikel Garcia, MJ Melendez and Bobby Witt Jr. homered, Brady Singer won for the first time on the road this season and the Kansas City Royals beat the Colorado Rockies 10-1 on Sunday to end a three-game losing streak.

“It’s huge,” Witt said. “Anytime you get a win is big, but also doing it in that form and fashion, that just shows what our offense can do. And I still think we can even do more."

Garcia’s three-run homer capped a four-run second inning off right-hander Tanner Gordon (0-1), who was making his major league debut. Garcia homered for first time since May 17, a span of 183 at-bats. He has six homers this season.

Melendez homered in the seventh, and Witt hit his 15th to cap a three-hit day in a three-run ninth.

“Maikel put a good at-bat together," Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “Pretty sure he wasn’t trying to hit a home run, but a good swing on a pitch that has given him some trouble.”

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — Police say Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson has been killed in a car crash in Maryland. The 24-year-old Jackson was one of three people who died Saturday in an overnight three-car crash in Prince George's County. State police say 23-year-old Isaiah Hazel and 24-year-old Anthony Lytton, Jr., who were teammates of Jackson in high school and former college players, were also killed. Police said the car they were in was clipped by another vehicle. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor and charges could be coming, police say. Jackson was a fourth-round draft pick by the Vikings in April.

TULSA, Okla.—The Wichita Wind Surge hit three home runs on the road yet fell 7-4 against the Tulsa Drillers in the series finale. Wichita has lost four straight games dating back to Thursday, including being swept in all three games at ONEOK Field this weekend.

Carson McCusker&nbsp;worked a full count before cranking his seventh home run of the season, a solo shot, to deep left field in the top of the second.

Just four runners would reach second base safely across the next four innings between both sides. Dalton Rushing nearly got caught in a rundown between first and second, yet evaded a tag after the ball dropped with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. The Drillers catcher being safe was important, as on the next pitch, Damon Keith blasted a double to the right-center alley, allowing Rushing to come around all the way from first to tie the game 1-1.

Bubba Alleyne brought home two more for Tulsa on a triple to the right field wall after the stretch in the bottom of the seventh, later sliding across the plate himself on a Yeiner Fernandez sacrifice fly to center. Rushing then added Drillers run number four in the frame on an RBI single to right for a 5-1 Tulsa lead. Two more runs for the home team scored in the home half of the eighth on a double by Alex Freeland to right field, which the switch hitter batting lefty pulled with two outs.

Jorel Ortega&nbsp;smacked a solo home run, his fifth of the year, on the first pitch he saw to left field to begin the bottom of the ninth.&nbsp;Jeferson Morales&nbsp;also yanked a two-run blast out of the yard, number five this season, to put the Wind Surge within three before the following two batters were retired to end the game.
