Johnnie Steven (Steve) Gregg passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Hutchinson, KS on August 29, 2024.

Steve is survived by his wife, Gail; daughters Gina Picart of Tulsa, OK, Robin Roberson (Brian) of Germantown, MD, and Rhonda Horton (Craig) of Blue Springs, MS; brothers, Curtis Gregg (Judy) and Terry Gregg (Sandy). Steve was also influential in the lives of Debra Astle of St. John, KS, Suzanne Vieyra of Manhattan, KS and Pedro “Pete” Vieyra of Wichita, KS. Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members were close to his heart.&nbsp;

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vivian Gregg and beloved sister Janis Thomas.&nbsp;

Born in Nickerson, KS on August 7, 1944 he lived in Stafford County and graduated from Hudson High School in 1962. After 25 years in Tulsa, OK Steve and his wife, Gail moved back to Nickerson. Working outside and being productive was a huge part of his life.&nbsp;

His faithful companion was his dog, Sheba, they were inseparable.&nbsp;

A celebration of life will be held on September 14, 2024, 1:00 p.m. at Lakeside Recreation Pavilion, 7803 W. Nickerson Blvd, Hutchinson KS.&nbsp;

Rusty Gene Kilgore, 68, born September 20, 1955, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 1, 2024 -after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. &nbsp; &nbsp;A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Rusty was known for his unwavering hard work, infectious laughter, and steadfast dedication to his family.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by parents, Norman and Lois Kilgore; brother, Rocky Kilgore; and sister, Pam Kilgore.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa, his four children; son, Brett Kilgore (Nicole); son, Tom Heumann (Brooke); daughter Lacey Miller (Andy); and son, Michael Flory (Kerstan) and his eight grandchildren, Kadance, Karlie, Dalton, Blake, Brelynn, Maddex, Callen, and Rhys. Rusty’s legacy lives on through his family, who will remember him for his constant drive to get work done.

Rusty was born in Huchinson, KS., the youngest of three children. &nbsp; Growing up in Hutchinson, Rusty worked in the family diner, peeling potatoes. &nbsp; During the summer of ’71, the family moved to Rose Hill where he graduated in 1973. Rusty stayed busy in Rose Hill farming, running a feed store, and car lot – all while working at Boeing. &nbsp;

Rusty married Teresa in 2001 and they moved to Wichita. They spent their time working at Boeing/Spirit and raising their 4 children. Although Rusty was stern at times, he had a method to his ways – he wanted his children to grow up to live a life of doing right. &nbsp;Rusty was extremely proud of his 4 children.&nbsp;

In addition to raising 4 great kids and being amazing grandparents, Rusty and Teresa did lot of traveling the last 24 years. Their adventures took them from Vegas to the Bahamas; Colorado to Atlantic City; California to Texas; however, &nbsp;their absolute favorite place was their lake house at Grand Lake – their peaceful haven for the past 6 years.

Rusty’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him. &nbsp; &nbsp;His presence will be deeply missed but his impact will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to know him. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Kris D. Baymiller was born to D. Kurt and Carol J. Baymiller on November 9, 1958, and died August 28, 2024. He is preceded in death by his father, Kurt, and his twin brother, Kyle. He is survived by his mother, Carol Schecher, Rapid City, SD; wife, Deborah of the home; brothers, Doug, Hudson, SD, Jon (Peggy), Lenior City, TN, and Eric (Karen), Tucson, AZ; children, Benjamin, Weed, CA, Tedra, Sioux Falls, SD; Zachary (Heather), Waukee, IA; stepdaughters, Deandra Hester, South Hutchinson, and Jolana Spurlock, Hutchinson; five granddaughters; five step grandchildren; and a step great granddaughter.

Kris graduated from Watertown (SD) High School in 1977 and attended South Dakota State University. He received a Machine Tool Technology diploma with high honors from Mithell Vocational Technical Institute/Springfield. He worked as a tool and die maker in Sheldon, IA, and Sioux Falls, SD, before retiring from AGCO in Hesston, KS, after 22 years of service. Kris enjoyed his work and coworkers.

In June of 1979, Kris married Tammee Luke they had three children together before divorcing in July, 1987. On September 25, 2010, he married Deborah Spurlock and remained dedicated to her until his death. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him. He recently found much joy in spending time with his great granddaughter and teaching her silly antics.

He will be dearly missed by friends and family. Kris was a very kind man with a gentle and caring soul who loved his family immensely. His love language was helping others, and it showed in his everyday walk.

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Tuesday, at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.

Jacqueline Faye “Jackie” Ensz, 68, of Mount Hope, died September 1, 2024, in Wichita. She was born February 25, 1956, in Lake Charles, L, to Ernest “Ernie” and Alma Reisinger.&nbsp;

Jackie graduated from Manheim High School (PA) in 1974. She worked in childcare at Friendship Daycare. Jackie enjoyed arts and crafts, painting rocks, cross-stitching and planting flowers were some of her favorites.

She was a member of Community Church of the Brethen, Hutchinson.

On August 9, 1980 she married Rex A. Ensz, in Manheim, PA. They shared over 44 years of marriage.

Jackie is survived by: husband, Rex Ensz of Mount Hope; son, Isaac (Abigail) Ensz of Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Sandra Reisinger of Harrisburg, VA; 1 niece and 3 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Emmit Willard Hipps, 89, of Valley Center, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. &nbsp;He was born in Pottsville, Arkansas to John Willis Hipps Jr. and Laura Alice (Lewallen) Hipps. &nbsp;Being raised in Pope County, Arkansas, Emmit met and married the love of his life, Nina Jean (McAnulty) Hipps on February 14, 1951, in Russellville. Emmit served in the United States Army in the Korean War Era and was released Feb. 13, 1953. He and Nina moved to Wichita, Kansas then to Valley Center where they raised their family, attended church, played music and remained till his passing. He worked at Beech Aircraft where he retired after 42 years of service.

Emmit received his pilot’s license in 1978 and was a member of the Beech Flying Club. &nbsp;His great love for music where he played in country western groups up until this last year, &nbsp;playing his steel guitar, fiddle (violin), mandolin and standard guitar. &nbsp;Even though living in town, he also had his farm where he loved farming, hay crops, cattle and horses. &nbsp;The family did Bit’n Spur shows with their horses. &nbsp;He enjoyed his family time with his children and grandchildren.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife Nina Hipps in 2012, his parents John and Laura Hipps, 10 siblings: Myrtle Minor, William Elton Hipps Sr, Earl B. Hipps, James Lester Hipps, Chester Lee Hipps, Hoyt Anison Hipps, L C Hipps, Jewel Alma Carson, Bryant Hipps, and Oida Adkison.

Emmit is survived by his son Steve (Nikki) Hipps of Valley Center, daughter Brenda Hipps (Lee Weens) of Inman; grandchildren Heather (Hipps) Thomasson, Jarrod (Jessica) Hipps, Jayce Hipps, Chelsey Bates and Shane Ketron; great grandchildren Sullivan Thomasson, Kellen Hipps, Caden Hipps, Coran Hipps, Jaina Hipps, Daniel Ketron, Dylan Ketron and Dalton Bates; life friend Eleanor C. Chavez of Wichita; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Rose Marie Hoefer, 86, of Hutchinson, went home to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society – Hutchinson Village. She was born March 13, 1938, in Hoxie, to Ira John and Lottie Mae (Davis) Hatten.

On August 20, 1955, Rose married Carroll Donald Hoefer at First Baptist Church, Hutchinson.

She is survived by: her son, Steve (Brenda) Hoefer of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Brandi Hemphill, Jonathon (Tiffani) Hoefer, Ashley Hoefer, Phillip Hoefer, Crimson (Jeff) Kellogg, Brianna Hoefer; six great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Mike (Jill) Hoefer and Pat (Melva) Hoefer.

Rose was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Carroll; son, Tim Hoefer; daughter, Ruth Hoefer; brother-in-law, Phillip Hoefer and his wife, Ileine; and grandson-in-law, Brian Hemphill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2024, Westside Baptist Church, 400 W. 12th Ave., Hutchinson. Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery.

Leonard Dale (Len) Friesen, a resident at Pleasant View Home in Inman, KS, died September 1, 2024, at the age 85. &nbsp;He was the second son of Leonard Flaming and Louise Grace (Thiessen) Friesen. &nbsp;Len graduated from Inman High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at Emporia State Teachers College. &nbsp;He spent many years as a Sales Rep in the Delco Division of General Motors.

Survivors include brother, Raymond Friesen, Inman; sisters, Verbie Friesen Thiessen, Inman Judie Friesen Willems, Hesston; sister-in-law, Shirley Knackstedt Friesen, Inman; son, Bradley Friesen Lee and Wife Denise, Texas; 3 granddaughters; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. &nbsp;

Preceding him in death are his parents; and a brother, Gerald Dean (Jerry) Friesen, Inman.

She was born July 28, 1935, in Beaver, Oklahoma, the daughter of Harold Fitzgerald and Mary Ethel (Jacobs) McAdams. Marietta has resided in Lyons since 1963, formerly of Beaver, Oklahoma. Marietta was a homemaker and antique dealer and collector. She was a member of Faith Bible Church, Lyons. Marietta enjoyed her flower gardens. On October 15, 1987, she was united in&nbsp;marriage with William G. Harmon in Lyons. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2012. She is&nbsp;also preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Cynthia K. Miller. Carol Sue (Peterson) Linscott walked into the gates of Heaven on August 28, 2024. Carol was born August 11, 1967, to Lloyd and Mary Smith in Newton, KS. Carol was born and raised in Newton. She married her high school sweetheart, Timothy Peterson, in December of 1984. She graduated from Newton High in 1985. Following graduation, she gave birth to her first born, Jessica. Carol worked at many places including Dairy Queen, The Corner gas station, and The Coffee Pot. In 1990, they had their second child, Amber. In 1993, Tim and Carol moved to Peabody, KS where she worked as a waitress at Sharon’s Corner Kitchen. They then welcomed their last born, Zach, in 1995. In 1998, Carol became a Walmart associate, where she continued to work for the next 26 years. Later on in April of 2015, Carol married Drue Linscott. They loved sight seeing, watching movies, attending WSU basketball games, and watching the Dallas Cowboys play football, while still rooting for the Chiefs.

Throughout the years, Carol was a member of bowling leagues. Her hobbies included arts and crafts, attending concerts, painting pottery with her friend Misty, and attending every sale bath and body had to offer. She was known to her family as the “crazy cat lady”, bringing in every stray cat and dog she could nurture as her own. Spending time with her grandkids was a priority to her. She attended cheerleading and dance events, basketball and football games, wrestling tournaments, and even demolition derby’s. Carol loved snapchatting her kids and grandkids with silly filters and loved receiving them back. Her family could always count on her to bring the sweet treats to the family events and do something special for her family when times got hard. She was a friend to everyone she met and would go out of her way to make the people around her feel safe and loved. Her door was open to anyone who needed comfort and any stray cat that needed a home.

Survivors include husband Drue Linscott, previous husband Timothy Peterson, brothers Gary and Michael Smith, sister Misty Faris, sister-in-laws Marie Smith, Nadine Linscott and Dee (Al) Mundy, children Jessica (Jacob) Lopez, Amber (Timothy) Evans, and Zach Peterson, grandchildren Atlanta Lopez, Braxden Lopez, Chayton Lopez, Madyson Evans, and Chase Evans, and extended grandchildren Camden, Calin, Jaxon, Emersyn, Brody, Timmy, Tanya, and Lindsey. Carol is preceded in death by her mother Mary, father Lloyd, brother David, extended daughter Jacey, and beloved dog Mocha.

Carol was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, friend, and so much more. She was a warm light in every room she walked into. Her smile, laugh, and generosity brought so much joy to those around her. She touched the hearts of many, like only Angels can. We would’ve held her every minute, if we’d only known God’s plan. We send her this message to the Heavens up above. Please take care of our Angel and send her all our love.

A visitation will be held on September 9 th from 5 p.m. to p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6-8 pm at Petersen Funeral Home 215 N Main St Newton, KS. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday September 10, 2024 at Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church in Newton. A graveside committal service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Kenneth Lenard Marcus, 63, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Hospice House in Hutchinson, KS. 

Kenny was born November 17, 1960 in Chicago, IL, the son of Irwin L Bryant and Lola (Hill) Marcus.Kenny grew up in Chicago. On May 18, 1982, he married Debra Breshears (White) in Spokane, WA. They did marry again on November 18, 2008. They were married for 42 years before he passed away in 2024.

He was preceded in death by his Mom Lola, brother Allen Marcus and two sisters, Delores and Cecilia Marcus.Kenny is survived by his daughter, Christina Davis, his three sons, Nicholas White, Nathaniel White and Kenneth Marcus Jr. Kenny had 19 grandchildren. His brothers, Howard and Derrick Marcus and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

Jerome Sheldon “Jerry” Spitzer, M.D., 91, of Hutchinson, died August 29, 2024, at Hospice House. He was born March 13, 1933, in Chicago, IL, to George and Malvina (Weiss) Spitzer.

Jerry graduated from Benson High School in Omaha, NE, and the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 1959. He served as a captain in the United States Army from 1960-1962 at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. In 1962, Jerry and his family moved to Hutchinson to start his medical career, which lasted 36 years. He joined Dr. Paul Stoez and other physicians at 2415 N. Main. In January, 1963, Jerry and Dr. Stoez joined the Medical Center at 415 W. 2nd Ave. After the new Medical Center was built at 11th &amp; Main, he was named to the Medical Center’s board of directors in 1972 and was president of the Medical Center for 9 years. Jerry retired from the Medical Center in 1998. Dr. Spitzer truly loved his job and his patients.

Dr. Spitzer served on the boards of numerous civic organizations throughout his career. He was instrumental in the founding of Prairie Star, which is a non-profit health care center providing medical, dental, and vision care for families in need.

On June 8, 1974, Jerry married Ruth Ann Ford, in Hutchinson.

Jerry loved flying so much that he became a pilot. His love of flying led him and his wife, Ruth Ann, to build their home of 47 years near the airport so they could watch the planes come and go. Jerry was an avid golfer and was a member of the LADS at Prairie Dunes County Club. But during the winter you would find him and Ruth Ann on the slopes. They loved to travel with family and friends.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Ann Spitzer. Also surviving are: his children and their spouses, Bob and Sharon Spitzer of Plano, TX, David Spitzer of North Haven, CT, Cathy and Joe Gluck of Evanston, IL; stepchildren and their spouses, John Martinez of Prairie Village, KS, Annette and Mark Meek of Weatherford, TX, Sandra and Bill Bell of Hutchinson, Gary Martinez of Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, John and Cheri Spitzer of Canton, OH; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by: his father, George Spitzer; stepmother, Marie Spitzer; mother, Malvina Spitzer; siblings, Judith Spitzer, Jim Spitzer; son-in-law, Mace John; and daughters-in-law, Pam Martinez and Susanne Spitzer.

Jerome Sheldon “Jerry” Spitzer, M.D. |1933-2024|

Jerome Ernest Hajek, at the age of 73, passed away August 28, 2024, at his home, in Marion, surrounded by his family. He gallantly battled cancer. 

Jerome’s life began December 8, 1950. He was born in Marion, Kansas, the 7th child born to Albert and Mildred (Bina) Hajek. He was raised on the family farm near Lost Springs. He attended K - 8th grade at Lost Springs Elementary. He attended and graduated from Centre High School with the class of 1969. Immediately following graduation, he served his country in the United States Air Force National Guard until his honorable discharge in August 1975. He was united in marriage to Donna Kay Ewert on September 25, 1971, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. They were blessed with two loving daughters, Kelli &amp; Kimberly. 

Before serving his country Jerome worked for Slusser’s Drilling. After his service he worked a while at Hesston Corporation. Then he and his brother, Gary, operatered Tampa Lumber Yard which was owned by him and all his brothers, until the late 1970’s. After they sold the lumberyard he worked for Ousler Brothers for a short time. He then would spend the next 33 years at Johns Manville Corporation, where he worked as a Servicer, he retired in 2014. 

His loving family surviving him includes: his wife: Donna of Marion; his daughters: Kelli and husband Dennis Kerschen of Wichita, and Kimberly Helmer of Marion; his 5 grandchildren: Drew Helmer of Thornton, C0, Hunter Helmer of Overland Park, William Kerschen of Fort Liberty, NC, Matthew Kerschen of Wichita, and Ella Kerschen of Wichita; his sister: Irene (Eugene) Waylan of Miami, OK: his brothers: Paul, Ronnie (Leona), and Gary (Vickie) all of Lost Springs; also his loving brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother: Francis, sister-in-law RaeLene Hajek, and his brothers-in-law: Wayne Ewert and Max Ewert. 

All services for Jerome will be held at the Marion Presbyterian Church, with the Visition to be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 6 - 8 pm; and the Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 10:00 am. Leatrice E. Schroeder, 97, of Buhler, Kansas, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community. She was born on October 24, 1926 in McPherson County, Kansas, to John and Emma (Froese) Peters.

She was a member of the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church, where she was very involved with the supply center, cooking committee and the quilters group. Leatrice also taught Sunday school.

Leatrice was united in marriage to Milo “Mickey” Schroeder on May 28, 1946 in Buhler. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2015.

Leatrice is survived by her children, Maxelin Wiebe of Buhler, Nancy (Dale) Kopper of Wentzville, MO, and Don (Jan) Schroeder of Hesston; son-in-law, Royce Regehr of Inman; grandchildren, Rene’ (Melody) Wiebe, Sean (Nancy) Wiebe, Brent (Kim) Kopper, Nathan (Michelle) Kopper, Debbi (Doug) Wiens, David (Lea Ann) Schroeder, Justin (Kelly) Regehr, and Troy Regehr; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Lawrence (Nancy) Peters of Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Gail Regehr; son-in-law, Gary Wiebe; and brother, Victor (Velora) Peters.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community chapel, with family greeting friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Burial will follow at the Buhler Municipal Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in care of Buhler Mortuary, PO Box 589, Buhler, KS 67522.

Richard Eugene Connell, Jr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 22, 2024. &nbsp;Born in Stuttgart Germany to Richard E Connell and Yvonne (Simpson) on January 13, 1972, he began his life on an Army base, soon returning to the United States where he was raised in Wichita, Kansas.

Rick had a childlike joy and mischievousness with a contagious laugh to follow that immediately drew people to him. He was an accomplished and well-known professional in the aircraft industry, happily sharing his knowledge and technical excellence with anyone who wanted to learn. &nbsp;Rick was always the first to help anyone experiencing difficulties, even when he himself was at his lowest. &nbsp;Rick was a true believer in the power of kindness.

Rick’s greatest joy in life was his children, and in more recent years, his 6 grandchildren. &nbsp;He was extremely proud of the accomplishments of his 4 children, and kept detailed mementos of each of their school events, grades, performances, and sporting events. &nbsp;He would break out into a grin at the first glimpse of any of his grandchildren, and the words “Poppy Ricky!” were music to his ears.

Rick is survived by his four children, daughter Breanna Haden of Augusta KS, and sons Austin Connell (Macey), Bryce Connell, and Cohen Connell, all of Wichita KS; his grandchildren Elsie Haden, Waverley Connell, Gwenevera Connell, Callum Connell, Carter Coates, and Quentin Connell; his sister Tonya Bargas (Mark); his brother Dillon Connell (Jessica); his step-mother Robbn Connell; his step-father John Stewart; Mother of Austin Connell and dear friend of 35 years Day Davidson (Josh); and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Rick was preceded in death and was welcomed with open arms by his father, Richard E Connell; his mother, Yvonne (Simpson) Stewart; his grandparents Jack and Helen Connell, Joyce De’Chant, and Gene White.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, September 6th at ZAIK Church, located at 888 S Webb Rd in Wichita, KS 67207.

Following the memorial service there will be a section reserved at The Rusty Nail for family and friends to meet, located at: 1155 S Washington Ave, Wichita, KS&nbsp; 67211.

Frank Clement Dauksch, age 79 yrs, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024. He was bornSaturday, September 16, 1944 in Great Bend, Kansas, son of Clement Paul Dauksch and LelaAnna (Konecny) Dauksch. 

He was a graduate of Great Bend High School, Great Bend, Kansas.After graduation he went into the U.S. Navy on the USS Bennington. A few years later he met the love of his life, Carol Mae Finkbiner. They were married May 15, 1971 in Clifton, Kansasand enjoyed 43 years when Carol preceded him in 2014. His other lifelong accomplishmentwas working for USD 259 and retiring after 30 years of faithful work.

He took pride in and enjoyed having a large garden which prospered at the touch of his hand andhard work. He exercised at the YMCA, and in his quiet time he enjoyed fishing. Yet his greatestlove was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Dauksch, his parents Clement and Lela Dauksch,brother Robert Fredelake and sister Barbara Lancaster.

Frank is survived by his daughter Felicia Mayer and husband Stephen of Wichita; grandchildren Zachery Mayer, Abigail Mayer, Katherine Mayer, Daniel Mayer, Saranne Mayer, William Mayerand Hope Mayer, all of Wichita; sisters Carolyn Patten and husband Mike of South PadreIsland, TX, and Linda Patten of LaPorte, TX, sister-in-law Neletta Fredelake; many nieces,nephews, other family and friends.

She was born in August 25th,1964, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Mary (Bland) Theos and Roy Crabtree. 

Theresa enjoyed crafts and coloring in her spare time. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a full-time homemaker.&nbsp;

She is survived by; her daughter Andrea Henderson and her husband Donny: her son,Keith Boyer; her sisters,Peggy Scott, Shelia Brown and Franny Voth; her brother,Billy Goodman and his wife Judy; and her grandchildren, Daniel, Nevaeh, Brandon, Khloe, and Destini.&nbsp;

Shawnta L. Williams-Miller, 44, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at home in Kansas City, Kansas. Shawnta was born October 19, 1979, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of Robert L. Miller and Judy E. (Chronister) Miller.

Shawnta graduated from Buhler High School in 1998. She attended Sidney’s Cosmetology School. She worked in the customer service industry for many years. Shawnta enjoyed spending time with friends and attending church.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and many aunts and uncles.

Shawnta is survived by her parents; daughter, Kaycee-Mae Miller, sons, GaVaughn and Jaidence Embers; sister, Danielle (Dominque) Craft; brother, Bryce (Emily) Miller; nieces, Kohlbie Craft, Bayleigh and Londynne Miller; nephews, Kree Craft and Dezmond Miller; and multiple aunts and uncles.

Debra Anne Mills (née Freeman), also known as Debbie, aged 71, passed away on August 26, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas. Born on May 29, 1953, in Coldwater, Kansas, she was the loving daughter of the late Emma Gene and Elvin Freeman.

Debbie will be profoundly missed by her surviving family. Her husband, Keith Mills; her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Donnie Busby;&nbsp; her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Lacy Breeden; her daughter and son-in-law, Abbey Fulgham and Jeff Greubel; Keith’s daughter Rachael and his son Andrew; and her treasured grandchildren, Mia and Jonah Kennedy, Jaden, Jaren, and Jonathan Fulgham, as well as Scout and Champ Breeden, Joshua and Ethan Mills; and her great grandchildren Aiden, Grayson, and Sofia Kennedy, will all hold her memory dear. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Buffington.

Her life was an emblem of kindness, generosity, and love, which she demonstrated through her&nbsp;commitment to her family and her friends. She leaves behind a legacy of enduring love and precious memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

Edna (Schmidt) Curtiss died August 27, 2024, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas. She was born on October 17, 1921, at Harper, Kansas, the daughter of Sam and Alice (Shupe) Schmidt. Edna attended school in Harper, graduating high school in 1939. She moved to Newton Kansas in 1943.

Here she met, and then married Johnnie C. Curtiss on January 28, 1946. They had 2 children, Doug and Becky. Johnnie died January 26, 1999, two days before their 53rd wedding anniversary and his 80th birthday.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Edna worked for 17 years at Bethel Clinic as a bookkeeper. She was a member of First United Methodist church, VFW Auxiliary, Eastern Star and NARVRE.

&nbsp;Survivors include her children: Doug and Linda Curtiss of rural Newton, Kansas; Becky and Bill Heaston of Newton, Kansas; Grandchildren Monica and Chad Lester, Melissa and Brad Deal, great-grandchildren Logan, Jenna, Lindsey, Riley, Emily and Bradley; and great great grandson, Enzo, all of the Denver area; 3 step-granddaughters and nine step-great grandchildren of the Kansas City area, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband Johnnie; her parents Sam and Alice Schmidt; two Sisters Mary Schmidt and Ruth Hershberger; two brothers Vernon Schmidt and Earl Schmidt.

&nbsp;Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Petersen Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Petersen Family Funeral Home. Burial will be Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas.

She was a member of First United Methodist church, VFW Auxiliary, Eastern Star and NARVRE.&nbsp;Survivors include her children: Doug and Linda Curtiss of rural Newton, Kansas; Becky and Bill Heaston of Newton, Kansas; Grandchildren Monica and Chad Lester, Melissa and Brad Deal, great-grandchildren Logan, Jenna, Lindsey, Riley, Emily and Bradley; and great great grandson, Enzo, all of the Denver area; 3 step-granddaughters and nine step-great grandchildren of the Kansas City area, and several nieces and nephews.Preceding her in death are her husband Johnnie; her parents Sam and Alice Schmidt; two Sisters Mary Schmidt and Ruth Hershberger; two brothers Vernon Schmidt and Earl Schmidt.&nbsp;Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Petersen Family Funeral Home. Philip W. Young, 84, of Hutchinson, died August 20, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 5, 1940, in Hutchinson, to Estel and Melba (Warren) Young.&nbsp;

Philip graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1958, and graduated in 1962 from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in business. He spent many years working for General Motors in their human resources department. Philip loved spending time fishing and painting. He was able to fix anything that was broken and Philip enjoyed working on projects. He was a car enthusiast and a founder of the Radicals Car Club.&nbsp;

He was devoted member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

In 1964, Philip married Freda Pfannestiel. They shared 52 years of marriage before her death on September 3, 2016.&nbsp;

Philip is survived by: daughters, Sandra Johann of Independence, MO, Cindy (Chuck) LoPorto of Blue Springs, MO, Christine Robinson of Lee’s Summit, MO; brother, Scott (Margie) Young of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Carrie Turner (Mark Nicholas) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Sal (Gina) LoPorto of Riverside, MO, Mike (Kim) LoPorto of Emporia, Christopher (Katherine) LoPorto of Lee’s Summit, MO, Ashley Johann of Independence, MO, Stephen (Shelby) Johann of Independence, MO; and 10 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Our beloved, Heidi Dawn Blackwell, left us peacefully on August 25, 2024 at the age of 50. Heidi was a beacon of love and strength in our lives, and her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her.

Born on April 10, 1974 in Hutchinson KS, Heidi dedicated her life to her family and friends. She was known for her infectious smile, unwavering love, incredible resilience, nurturing spirit and she had a unique way of making everyone feel special and loved.

Heidi’s love and wisdom have been the heart of our family, and while we grieve her loss, we find comfort in the countless memories we hold dear. She will be forever missed, but her spirit will continue to guide us and inspire us every day.

Heidi is survived by her husband Fred Blackwell, children: Brittany Blackwell (Michael Dunsworth) and Corey Blackwell of Hutchinson, grandsons:  Gage Freyholtz and Toby Walden, of Hutchinson, mother: Dorothy (Roy) Edwards of Livingston, TX, sisters: Wendy (Michael) Miller and Robin Shultz “McClellan”, of Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil McClellan.

Russell Glen Baker, 60, died Monday, August 26, 2024 at his home in Haysville, Kansas.

He was born on October 24, 1963 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Russell L. and Helen Hedgepath Baker. Russell was raised in the Hutchinson and Burrton area.

&nbsp;Graduating from Burrton High School in 1982, Russell later went to Junior College in Concordia and McPherson where he played basketball. He still holds some of the school records at Burrton High School.

For many years he had worked at the Wichita area aircraft companies, retiring from Spirit in 2013. He married Kathleen Diann Decker on August 27, 2013 in Hutchinson.

Survivors include his wife Kathy of the home; his children Blake Baker and wife Becki of St. Charles, Mo., Erren Baker of Clearwater, Zachary Baker and wife Christine of Moscow Mill, Mo., Jordan Baker and wife Emily of St. Peters, Mo., Jacob Baker with Makaila Chadwick of Wichita, Nathan Baker with Sydney Alexander of Phoenix, Az., Heather Magby of Wichita,

and Ryan Magby and wife Roula of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; and eight grandchildren with one more due in December.

Russell is also survived by his parents Russell and Helen Baker of Clearwater; and brother Tony Baker and wife Sheryl of Little Rock, Ark.

A family celebration of life will be held at a later time.

Hope Marie Bertram, 56, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024 at her home. She was born on February 9, 1968 in Salina to Ken Sharp and Linda (Luther) Throckmorton. Hope married Dell Wayne Bertram on December 26, 1991 Medicine Lodge. They were married for 32 years.

Hope earned her Certified Nurse Aide and Certified Med Aide Certificate from Pratt Community College. She loved her family and was devoted to her grandchildren. She was a very selfless lady that was always taking care of others and putting them first.

She is survived by her husband, Dell; son, James (Ashley) Bertram; daughter, Ashley Aurelien all of Pratt; father, Ken Sharp of Salina; mother, Linda Throckmorton of Larned; brothers, David Sharp of Wichita and Troy Sharp of Larned; and grandchildren, Natalie (Brice) Dinning, Alayna Bertram, Allie Bertram and Carmalina Aurelien.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Pamela Joan Saffle, 70, beloved wife, mother, and nana, was welcomed into Heaven on Friday, August 23, 2024. &nbsp;

Pam was born on November 2, 1953, to John and Joyce Henderson in Sedan, Kansas, the oldest of four children. She lived in Sedan and Larned before her family settled down in Hutchinson. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1971. On July 15, 1972, she married the love of her life, Steven Saffle. She worked in the banking industry until the birth of their first child in January of 1979. Their family continued to grow with the birth of a son in April of 1980 and a daughter in March of 1984. The family moved from Hutchinson to Fort Scott before settling in Wichita in 1986. In 1989, Pam began her dream of becoming an elementary school teacher by going back to school at Wichita State University. She graduated in 1994 and began teaching at White Elementary. The next year she began teaching first grade at Woodman Elementary where she made lifelong friendships with her team. She retired from teaching in 2010 when her health began to decline. Her early retirement years were spent taking care of her young grandchildren, digital scrapbooking, and her monthly lunch dates with “the girls”. &nbsp;She enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel and police dramas, going to her grandkid’s sports activities, and spending quality time with her family.

Pamela is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Steve of Augusta; daughter, Abby Younts (Shawn) of Valley Center; son, Eric Saffle (Brandy) of Madison, Mississippi; and daughter, Andrea Saffle of Valley Center. Pam was a wonderful Nana to Matthew Saffle, Kaden Saffle, Gracelynn and Lucas Younts, Joshua Saffle, and Colton Saffle. She is also survived by her sister, Lisa (Robert) Vieyra, her brother David Henderson, and her sister-in-law, Alice Henderson, as well as many aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Joyce Henderson, and her brother, Mark Henderson.&nbsp;
