Shirley M. Reese, age 94, went home to be with the Lord on November 8, 2021. She was born at home in Roxbury, KS on March 9, 1927, to Harry and Geraldine Nirider. She spent her youth in the Roxbury area, graduating from Roxbury High School. In 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Clyde Reese, who preceded her in death in October 1994. They made their home in Roxbury until 1974 when they moved to McPherson until Shirley later moved to Abilene to be with her daughter. She was a kind and friendly woman, loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Leatta Lynn Webb and husband, Bob, of Abilene, KS; two grandsons, Mike Webb and wife, Robin, of Fort Scott, KS and Brent Webb and his wife, Angie, of Lawrence, KS; great-grandkids, Michaela, Caden, Cole, Logan, and Lexi; one brother, Edwin Nirider of Montana; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, George Nirider. Shirley spent her life taking care of other people, her older neighbors, her parents, and many aunts. Diane Calcagno-Fallis passed peacefully on November 5th, 2021, after a hard battle with brain cancer at the age of 60. Her devoted husband of 24 years, Douglas, was by her side. Diane was born on January 2, 1961, in Summit, NJ; the second of three daughters to Charles M. Calcagno and Marion (Borgese) Calcagno. Diane lived her early childhood years in Kenilworth before the family relocated to Berkeley Heights, NJ. After graduating from Governor Livingston high school in 1979, she continued her education studying legal administration. Diane began her professional career at Lane M Ferdinand law firm in Springfield, NJ After relocating to Southern California, she continued to work as a legal administrator joining Snell &amp; Wilmer law firm in Irvine, CA. Diane met Douglas, and they married in October 1997, settling in Irvine. Daniel, their son, was born in September 1998. In 2006, the family relocated to McPherson, Kansas, Douglas’ hometown. After arriving in Kansas, Diane took a position in advertising at the McPherson Sentinel, the local newspaper. After 5 years with the paper, through business contacts, Diane came upon what she considered to be her “dream job” working at the McPherson Opera House Company. She eventually became Executive Director of the opera house. Through these jobs, Diane made many lasting friendships. Diane had the support of many friends through the social activities she engaged in while in McPherson. Her dear Bunco Babes and her yearly trips with her three Cali coworkers were a big part of her life. One of her proudest moments was seeing her son, Daniel, graduate from Kansas State University in May 2021. She looked forward to annual trips to Ocean Beach III in N.J. to visit the Jersey shore. Diane loved the beach and collecting shells on the east coast and the west coast. Diane will be remembered as caring and compassionate. She would always listen and give support to anyone who talked with her. Diane's commitment and determination in life is a lasting inspiration and a shining light for all who knew her. Diane is survived by her husband, Douglas, her son, Daniel, her mother, Marion Calcagno, her sisters, Karen (Tom Ryan) Hodshon and Arlene (Tim) Lasecla, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Joan Fallis, brother-in-law, David (Sindie) Fallis, and sister-in-law, Beth (Tom) Robinson. Mark William Childs, 63, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 6 a.m., Wednesday, November 10th, suddenly, at his home.

Mark, son of Robert Dallas and Alice Irene (Hackler) Childs was born July 7, 1958 in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was the youngest of five children born to this union, four sons and one daughter, David, Patricia, Galen, Craig, and Mark.

Mark attended Fairfield grade school and graduated from Fairfield High School, Fairfield, Kansas in 1976.

He was a member of Church of Christ Sylvia, Kansas.

Mark William Childs was united in marriage to Charlene Sue Zerger on February 3, 1990 at Kingman, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Hutchinson, Kansas. This twelve year union was blessed with the birth of three children, two daughters and a son, Chelsea, Claire, and Connor.

Mark was a 3rd generation milk hauler and owner and operator of Childs Liquid Transports of Central Kansas. He then started with EATON of Hutchinson, Kansas where he was a CNC Machinist before finishing his career at Pfizer in McPherson, Kansas.

Mark enjoyed 4-H as a young man, telling funny stories, and watching movies. He liked mowing lawns while he was growing up and had developed quite the business. Mark loved being with his children and was particularly close with his daughter Claire. Hearing stories about and seeing pictures of his grandpets also brought him joy.

He is survived by his children, Chelsea Childs wife of William Sibley II, of Norman, Oklahoma, Claire Childs, of Kansas, and Connor Childs, of Wichita, Kansas; his mother, Alice Childs, of Plevna, Kansas; his siblings, David Childs, of San Diego, California, Galen Childs and wife Cindy, of Abbyville, Kansas, Craig Childs and wife Carla, of Abbyville, Kansas, and Patricia Schmidtberger and husband Neal, of Hutchinson, Kansas; his grandpets; other relatives and a host of friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Robert Childs.

Louwanna Bastin, 70, passed away November 8, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  She was born January 31, 1951, in Harlan, KY.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” Revelation 21:4

On July 26, 1980, Louwanna married William Theodore Bastin, in Aroma Park, IL.  They shared over twenty years of marriage, prior to his death on March 14, 2001.

Louwanna had a very kind and generous soul and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  Her home cooking, her laugh, and her loving heart, welcomed others into her home.  Louwanna enjoyed fishing, diamond art projects, feeding the geese, making huge family meals, and loved spending time with her family.  There is no greater gift in this life than to love and to be loved.  She was a loving wife, mother, ‘Mema’, and ‘GGMa’, who loved with all her heart.  Louwanna’s greatest joy was knowing that her family loved her just as much. 

She is survived by:  children, Lisa (Robert) Borntrager of Hutchinson, Katrina (Aaron) Johnson of Lawrence, Ciara Bastin of Hutchinson, and Chris (Carrie) Hendricks of Wichita; grandchildren, C.J. Don Harder was born on November 7, 1937 in Newton, Kansas to B.G. and Elise (Wiebe) Harder. He graduated from Whitewater High Class of 1955 and attended Bethel College. He was a cattle and grain farmer. In his youth, he was a starting flagger for the Sports Car Club of America, receiving the 35-year Longevity Award in 2003. In later years, Don dedicated himself to showmanship in the American Quarter Horse Association achieving the pinnacle of Grand Champion halter horse. He also was a member of the Board of the Bank of Whitewater. Don enjoyed traveling frequently around the US and to Mexico, Canada and Asia.

His loving family includes his son, Joe Harder of Shawnee; his daughter, Evelyn Harder, and grandson, Alexander, both of Easton; his brother, Willis Harder of North Newton; and his sister, Lois Nattier (Sidney) of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elna Dick of Buhler. Don passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater. Arlene Ruth Klassen, 85, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Schowalter Villa surrounded by family.

Arlene was born in Goessel, Kansas on November 14, 1935 to Simon W. and Linda (Boese) Schmidt.&nbsp; She graduated from Goessel High School in 1954 and she took Early Childhood classes at Bethel College and K State.&nbsp; Arlene married Dwane Klassen, the love of her life, on March 4, 1957.

Arlene enjoyed making her house a home, baking for her family and friends, hosting dinner parties, and telling stories. She also enjoyed singing, photography, doting on her grandchildren, and traveling with family. Arlene worked as a Mental Health worker at Prairie View in Newton Kansas for twenty years.&nbsp; She was a member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, 4H, the Forest Service Wives Club, and president of the Colonial Oaks Garden Club.&nbsp;

Arlene devoted her life to serving the Lord and spreading His love and Good News by volunteering in many different capacities.&nbsp;&nbsp; After marrying Dwane, they volunteered with the Mennonite Voluntary Service at the Junior Village in Washington DC, and in Huron, California they ministered to the migrant workers. Additionally, she taught Sunday School, helped with Vacation Bible School, assisted with the Billy Graham Crusades, and facilitated Bible studies.

Arlene is survived by her three daughters Elizabeth Hodgson of Dacula, Georgia, Katherine Garber (Gyles) of Newton, Kansas, and Gretchen Brooks (Tony) of Arvada, Colorado; her grandchildren Brittany Atkins (Cody), Brooke Llena (Ben), Brian Hodgson (Lesly), Matthew Garber (Callie), Nathan Garber, Caleb Garber, Isabelle Brooks, and Justin Brooks; and her great grandchildren Parker, Jaxson, and Klaire Atkins, and Tyler Hodgson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwane Klassen; parents, Simon and Linda Schmidt; and sister-in-law, Agnes Schmidt.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 16, 2021 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston, Kansas.

John E. Stucky, 76, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away Friday, November 12, 2021 at his home, surrounded by family.  He was born March 22, 1945 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Elmer M. and Della Ruth (Wedel) Stucky.

John graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 1963. He later received his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at Bethel College in 1967.  In 1972, John graduated from Kansas State Teacher’s College (ESU) with a Master’s in Educational Psychology and finished his PhD in Special Education Administration from Kansas State University in 1980.

He taught at Cooper Elementary in Newton, Kansas, for a short time, before spending two years abroad in the Alternate Service.  Upon his return, he married his high school love, Marcia Pat Bartell on July 10, 1971 in Moundridge.

In his early career, John taught at Campus High School in Haysville, where he helped begin the local Kansas Special Olympic program, and then went to work at the Kansas State Industrial Reformatory as a math teacher for their educational program.  He later became Superintendent of the Education Program.  After 25 years at KSIR, John returned to public school teaching in the special education program at Newton High School and then at Valley Center High School, retiring in 2012 after 35 years of teaching.

He dedicated his life to faith and family.  John was an associate member of Eden Mennonite Church and attended Whitestone Mennonite Church, where he was active as a Sunday School Teacher and in his bible study group.

John is survived by his wife, Marcia Pat Stucky of Hesston; daughters, Angela Tipton of Hesston, Shelese (Jason) Newmark of San Diego, California, and Tenae (Brian) Alfaro of Andover; son, Matthew (Tera) Stucky of Moundridge; eight grandchildren; and sister, Wanita (Gerry) Schrag of Hesston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Della Stucky; parents-in-law, Earl and Darleen (Schrag) Bartell; Beloved Alfaro, Beloved Newmark, and Beloved Stucky; sister, Gloria Faye (Harold) Schrag; and niece, Linda Lou Schrag.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Whitestone Mennonite Church.  This will be a masked event. Mary Virginia Heidbreder, 94, of Lindsborg, passed away at 12:16 A.M., Wednesday, November 10th, 2021 while in the company of family members at Riverview Estates, Marquette. Mary was born in Hillsboro, Illinois on October 22, 1927, a daughter of Jessie Pearl (McClaine) and Raleigh Walter Scott. Mary attended Hillsboro Illinois grade schools and graduated from Morrisonville High School, Morrisonville, Illinois. She then attended and graduated from Carthage College, Carthage, Illinois with her bachelors degree in English She was a member of Lindsborg Covenant Church Mary was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Mary enjoyed sewing, taking care of her grandkids and spending time with her friends and family. Mary donated blood regularly and received her 10 gallon pin before stopping in July 2018. Later on in her and John lives they enjoyed traveling in their RV around the US. Mary Virginia Scott was united in marriage to John Cawthorn Heidbreder on September 10, 1950 at Hillsboro, Illinois. The young couple established their first home together in Minneapolis, MN. This union was blessed with the birth of four children, three daughters and one son, Florence, John, Margaret, and Katherine. He was born Oct. 19, 1932, at Belvidere, the son of Oliver and Florence Williams Tetrick.

A resident of the Kingman community most of his life, he was a retired maintenance foreman for Kansas Power and Light.

Jim was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Kingman; and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

On Nov. 11, 1954, he married Lois Schuman at Kingman; she died March 3, 2014.&nbsp; Survivors include three sons and their wives, Jerry and Kris, Brice and Bev, and Bill and Melissa; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He was also preceded in death by his brothers Robert and Lawrence; sister Marie Born; a grandson Steven Tetrick; and an infant daughter.

Lee was a 1964 graduate of Fairfield High School, Langdon.&nbsp; On November 14, 1964, he married Kathy Ford. Together they had two children.&nbsp; Lee and Kathy lived and farmed the Campbell family homestead and he worked at Cessna for 18 years.&nbsp; They divorced in 1986, stopped farming in 1989, and he went to driving for Dillons Stores for 10 years.&nbsp; Lee enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his horses.

He is survived by:&nbsp; daughter, Tamra (Donald) Langford of Plevna, and son, Aaron (Elizabeth) Campbell of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Lindsey (Rod) Keener, Zach (Melissa) Langford, Dalton (Annie Harner) Langford, Reece (Vanessa Quitalig) Campbell, Mekenzie Campbell; great-granddaughters, Ella, Sophie, and Rose Langford; brother-in-law, Bob Cooper; companion, Deanna Vincent, and her granddaughter, Lindsay (Brett) Love.

She was married to Lupe Bargas in February of 1963. He passed away in December of 2020. Over the years, Barbara enjoyed bowling and cooking. She attended Washington Elementary, Loveland Jr. High and Loveland High School.

Roxanne worked as a cook at Sirloin Stockade and the Cedars in McPherson.

She was a member at the First United Methodist Church in McPherson.  Roxanne was a former president of the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI).  She was also a volunteer worker at the Cedars.

Roxanne enjoyed reading and going on drives with Karen.  She loved nature and the mountains, and her cats, Dozer and Smokie.

She is survived by her brother, Bruce (Nadine) Treece of Loveland, CO; sisters, Jennifer (Bill) Wagaman of Loveland, CO, and Kaylene Treece of Loveland, CO; and adoptive sisters, Alicia Heim, Mindy Komarek, and Marcy Smith.

John D. Schrag was born to Paul J. and Esther Schroeder Schrag on April 26, 1953. He passed away at the age of 68 on November 11, 2021.

John was born in Newton, KS but was a lifelong resident of Moundridge, KS.

John was raised on the family farm southwest of Moundridge. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was for work or play. John attended Liberty grade school in rural Moundridge and was in the last graduating 8th grade class in 1967. He graduated from Moundridge High School in 1971, where he enjoyed playing football and custom wheat harvesting in the summers. John was an active member and past president of the Mid-Kansas Mustang Club.

John married Debra Willis on September 2, 1973 and of that marriage was born three children; Derek, Pamela, and Jerol. John, along with his brother-in-law Gail, built the house he would eventually live in for over 45 years. He later married Sharon Crain on October 12, 1991. She survives of the home. John thoroughly enjoyed watching his kids and later his grandkids sporting and musical events. He also spent thousands of hours working on classic cars, going to (and dragging his young kids to) car shows and having booths at swap meets, where he could sell and purchase car parts. His favorite cars were the classic muscle cars of the late 60’s and early 70’s. His very first car was a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I (candyapple red, of course).

During high school, John also attended Salina Vo-Tech in their automotive mechanics class. After graduating high school and working a brief stint at Mid Kansas COOP, John worked for over 40 years at the Bradbury Company in Moundridge as a precision machinist. John took great pride in the work that he performed. He was able to retire early at the age of 62 and took advantage of the extra time to spend with his grandchildren.

John is survived by his spouse, Sharon, of Moundridge; his children, Derek (Shannon) Schrag of Wichita, Pamela Friess of Mulvane and Jerol (Becky) Schrag of Hesston; siblings Jo &amp; Gail Arrowsmith, Newton, Jane &amp; Art Childs, Hutchinson, Jeanette &amp; Dohn Fast, Hutchinson, and Jerry Schrag, Hutchinson; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his loving parents.

He passed away at the age of 68 on November 11, 2021.John was born in Newton, KS but was a lifelong resident of Moundridge, KS.John was raised on the family farm southwest of Moundridge. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was for work or play. John attended Liberty grade school in rural Moundridge and was in the last graduating 8th grade class in 1967. Luba was an avid churchgoer, devoting years of service to the Peabody United Methodist Church and later to the Pathway Church of Wichita.&nbsp; Luba loved her community, her family and her Lord.&nbsp; She was a mother and grandmother to all.&nbsp; She was affectionately known as “little grandma” by her great grandchildren.&nbsp; Her cooking and baking will certainly be missed, but she will forever be remembered for her famous hugs.&nbsp; She also enjoyed putting together puzzles with roommate and friend Marie, her boxing classes, listening to Elvis, and spending time with loved ones.&nbsp;&nbsp; She loved telling others how blessed she was with her friends and family.

Luba arrived in her forever home on November 9, 2021, just in time to celebrate her son George’s 60th birthday.

Carol attended St. Mary of the Plains School in Dodge City, Kansas.&nbsp; She worked for Standard Liquor as a sales lady in Houston, Texas and later worked in liquor sales in the Topeka, Kansas area.&nbsp; Carol married the love of her life, William Werner on September 25, 1996.&nbsp; They owned and operated B &amp; C Trucking, where they both drove their own tractor trailers.&nbsp; Later years Carol worked in sales and bookkeeping for Comanche Beverage in Dodge City, Kansas, Ad Sales for the Dodge City Daily Globe and at the Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau.&nbsp; Carol was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City, a member of the Daughters of Isabella, a Girl Scout Leader, and a member of the St. Teresa Catholic Church in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Carol enjoyed her family and friends, music, dancing, and flowers.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents David and Phyllis Minet, son Davey, and brother Dennis Minet.

Dallas Lee Jones, 90, died November 9, 2021, at Good Samaritan Society, Hutchinson Village. He was born August 31, 1931, in Hutchinson, to James W. and Daisy (Tomlin) Jones.

Dallas served four years in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he earned both a Silver Star and a Purple Heart.&nbsp; He became a fireman in 1957, serving as Hutchinson Fire Chief for 20 years, prior to his retirement in 1996.&nbsp; Dallas was also instrumental in starting the Fire Science program at Hutchinson Community College.&nbsp; He was a member of International Fire Chiefs, Kansas Fire Chiefs, and American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68.&nbsp; In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling with the “Super Seniors” and “Silver Toppers”, and volunteering at The Salvation Army.

On August 15, 1959, he married June Linhart, in Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Dallas is survived by:&nbsp; his wife of over 62 years, June of Hutchinson; sons, Dale Jones (Janice) of Wichita, and Terry Jones (Kathy) of Halstead; grandchildren, Matthew Jones of Boonville, MO, Jake Jones of Wichita, Logan Jones of Chicago, IL, and Sarah Ronnfeldt of Boonville, MO; and three great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his father, James Jones; his mother, Daisy Zinn; brother, Robert W. Jones; and sisters, Joy Starks, Jean Hubard, and Barbara Leonard.
