Elinor Jean Scott, age 96, of Hays, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2022.

She was born on the family farm May 10,
 1926, to Albert and Nellie (Rychel) Yost.&nbsp; Growing up near Downs with 
her two brothers, she endured the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, 
learning early on about hard work and thrift and perseverance. &nbsp;She 
maintained these qualities for the rest of her life. &nbsp;

She attended Downs High School, 
graduating in 1945. &nbsp;On August 3, 1946, she was united in marriage with 
Ralph W. Scott at Williams Air Base in Chandler, Arizona.&nbsp; Upon Ralph’s 
release from the Army Air Corps, both Elinor and Ralph attended the 
University of Kansas, where Elinor earned her Bachelor’s degree in 
Education, and Ralph earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. 
Following their graduations, they raised their four children in Smith 
Center and Hays, Kansas.

Elinor delayed her teaching career 
until all four children reached grade school. &nbsp;She then taught fourth 
grade at Wilson Elementary school for 25 years, retiring in the early '90s. In retirement, she remained active with her responsibilities at 
the First Presbyterian Church of Hays and enjoyed bridge club, KU 
basketball, travel, socializing with friends and attending family 
gatherings.

Elinor is survived by two daughters and
 two sons: Barbara Lambert (Dennis) of Hutchinson, Martin Scott of 
Florida, Diane Scott (Dan) of Hays, Dane Scott (Nora) of Colorado 
Springs, grandchildren: Lance Lambert (Sarah), Meghan Carafano (Luke), 
Troy Lambert (Lacy), Alicia Pino (Marc), Matthew Tucker, Tyler Scott, 
Hope Hamlin, Grace Hamlin, and Mason Hamlin, and ten great 
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her 
husband of 61 years Ralph Scott, her brothers: George Yost and Larry 
Yost, and her parents Albert and Nellie Yost.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on
 Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church, Hays, with 
Rev. Christine Wagner officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be at at 2:30 pm in the 
Downs Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 8:30 am until service time on 
Wednesday at the church.&nbsp;

Darrell Leon Bowen, 50, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at his home in McPherson.&nbsp; He was formerly of Luray, Kansas where he owned and operated Big Daddy’s Bar.&nbsp; He also worked at Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas (Russell,) as a medical tech.

He was born April 26, 1972, in McPherson, the son of Ronald Nugent and LaVona Jean (Anthony) Bowen.&nbsp; He graduated from Lucas-Luray High School in 1990.

On June 7, 2008, Darrell was united in marriage to April D. Henson in Lucas.

Survivors include: his wife, April of the home; two sons, Walker Brown (Alexis) of Hutchinson; and Dakota Brown of McPherson; a brother, Tom Bowen (Tammara) of Hutchinson; two sisters, Lora Ensz (Todd) of McPherson, and Cheryl Pemberton (John) of Belton, MO; two grandchildren, Quinn and Serenity Brown; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald Eugene Bowen.

A celebration of Darrell’s life (come &amp; go visitation) will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, June 24, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Luray Cemetery on Saturday, June 25.

Wayne Blue, 75, of Hesston, passed away at 2:51 PM, Tuesday, June 14th, 2022 while in the company of family, at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, Wichita. Wayne was born in Wichita, on September 27, 1946, a son of Lucille May (Baldridge) and Richard Morris Blue, Sr. Wayne attended the Arlington grade schools and High School, Arlington, Texas. Wayne enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and honorably served as a Sgt in the Vietnam War. He received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w2*. Following his honorable discharge he attended and graduated from Santa Ana Junior College, Santa Ana, California. After moving to McPherson he then attended and graduated from McPherson College, McPherson. Wayne Blue was united in marriage to Lauren Susan Ewertz on August 12, 1966 at Fullerton, California. The young couple established their first home together in El Toro Marine Corps Base, El Toro, California. This union was blessed with the birth of three daughters, Nona, Michelle, and Heather. The family moved to Yorba Linda, California in 1972 until 1981 when the family moved to McPherson. Wayne was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Canton, Grace Lutheran Church, McPherson, and Zion Lutheran Church Newton, where he served in many capacities. He was Baptized into Christ and Confirmed on December 20, 1970. Wayne was a jack of all trades and a master of none. He worked as a screw inspector for a company in Santa Anna, California, a supervisor for the Alpha Beta Creamery in California, was an independent roofer, worked for Alcor as a supervisor, Swick Guth in customer service, and became an independent Insurance Agent all of McPherson. Wayne was a member of the American Legion Post 24; McPherson, Kansas and served as Commander as well as serving in many other capacities. Wayne enjoyed following his children and grandchildren in their sports and activities, gardening, fishing, woodworking and making stain glass windows, working on his home and others with many projects until his health would not permit him to do so, and spending time with his family especially his grandkids. The Grandkids loved teasing grandpa by calling him Howie or Moses. Wayne is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 55 years, Lauren Blue, of Hesston; his children and grandchildren, Nona (Probert) Dubus and her husband Chief Petty Officer Denis Dubus, USN Retired of Summit, Mississippi, their children: Army Specialist Jonathon Probert, Brittany Dubus, David Dubus, and Sarah Torres; Michelle Miller and her husband Bruce of Brookville, and their children: Anthony Kleinschmidt (Channing Myer), Loren Kleinschmidt (Donna), Christopher Kleinschmidt (Makayla Gerstner) and Chance Miller (Kinley Hodgson); Heather Martin and her husband Ryan of Hesston and their children: Blake, Alex, and Brody; four great-grandchildren, Lalya Dubus, Eli Kleinschmidt, Emmitt Kleinschmidt and Magnolia Kleinschmidt; his siblings, Richard (Barbara) Blue Jr. of Rainier, Washington, Cindy Blue of Medford, Oregon, and sister Becky (Dale) Tinklepaugh of Christianburg, Virginia; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his in-law's, Bud and Bernice Ewertz; his brothers, Donald, Nathan, and Stephen Blue; and a granddaughter, Rylee Miller. Margie Schmidt entered the presence of the Lord on June 15, 2022 at the Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born May 27, 1940 in Cordell, Oklahoma to loving parents John and Susie Rempel. 

She grew up in a large white farmhouse outside of Corn, Oklahoma spending time with many of her beloved 70 first cousins, gathering eggs, enjoying her cats, playing with dolls, and making mud-pies, all activities that foreshadowed her amazing homemaking skills. When she was 5, she started spending her summers cooking alongside her mom for her dad’s custom harvesting crew on a cook stove in a small trailer without running water. Because of those experiences, she promised herself she would not marry a custom harvester, not knowing the boy, Geral Schmidt, in her 12-person class that she started dating at 16 would indeed become a custom harvester. 

At Corn High School, she was a spunky cheerleader and a member of the 3-on-3 women’s basketball team. She married Geral at 19 and was an incredible help-mate to him both in sickness and in health during their 61 years of marriage. Margie was the first in her family to graduate from college, earning her Business and Home Economics degrees from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. While her greatest calling was serving as a wise and nurturing mother to Clark and Susan, she also taught business, home economics, and government classes to high school students in the Lorraine, Alden and Sterling school districts for about 20 years before transitioning to a substitute role. She said teaching high school students was “exhilarating.” During the summers until she was 65, she worked tirelessly cooking and delivering delicious and hearty meals to the field for an 8-12 person crew on a wheat harvest run that went from Texas to Montana. During her harvesting career that spanned 60 years she mothered not only Clark and Susan but also “her boys” on the crew. She was also a gifted business manager with a great mind for details. However, her greatest joy was her role as a very loving and supportive “Mimi” to her 5 grandchildren; she attended as many of their activities and birthday parties as possible, loved making cookies or playing games with them, and hosted incredible Christmas celebrations. Margie was also a talented seamstress who sewed clothes in her younger years and transitioned in later years to creating beautiful quilts that her family cherishes. She also loved visiting with her many dear friends and reading as a part of the Page Turners Book Club. As a member of United Methodist Church in Sterling, she served as a trustee and faithful volunteer with her beloved church family and helped start a group that made quilts for veterans and shut-ins. Margie served in every possible office in PEO, as both president and vice-president of Sorosis, and as president of Rice County Republican Women. She also served on the Board of Trustees of Sterling College, South Central Community Foundation, and Republican Central Committee. 

Margie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, John E. Rempel, sister-in-law, Erna, and niece, Maxine. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Lee) of Dallas, and son, Clark (Jessica), of Sterling as well as her grandchildren Garrett (Claire) and Allison Riffe of Dallas and Debra, Wyatt, and Waylon Schmidt of Sterling. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Loretta (Howard) Schmidt of Corn, Oklahoma and Barbara (Ron) Goodman of Conway, Arkansas as well as many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 20, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church, Sterling, with Pastor Amy Foster officiating. Burial will follow at the Sterling Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M., Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.&nbsp;

Virginia Adair Hankins Bohannon, 77, died June 15, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society, Hutchinson Village. She was born December 14, 1944, in Hutchinson, to Roger William and Venus Ocilla (Dyer) Hankins.

Virginia graduated from Tulsa Central High School, Tulsa, OK, in 1964.&nbsp; She worked as a certified nurse’s aide and certified medication aide at Buhler Sunshine Home and KSIR.&nbsp; Virginia enjoyed quilting, reading, Bingo, and writing her life story. She was a member of St. Mary Orthodox Christian Church, Wichita.

Virginia is survived by:&nbsp; daughters, Michelle Estes (Michael) of Troy and Susanne Gehring of Buhler; brother, Duwayne Hankins (Joetta) of Kingman, AZ; sister, Rosa Lee Hankins; bonus sister, Sarah Hendrixson (John), all of Hutchinson; four grandchildren, Grace Anne Estes, Caitlin Hernandez (Adan), Jake Gehring (Kayt), and Jackson Gehring; and two great-grandchildren, Emilia Hernandez and Russell Gehring.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; brothers, Nelvin, Robert, and Dale; and son-in-law, Danny Gehring.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Elliott Chapel, with the Reverend Father Aaron Warwick officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Richard Hilt, 90, of Hutchinson, died June 15, 2022, at Reflection Living. He was born December 17, 1931, in Pratt, to John and Thelma (Taylor) Hilt.

Richard graduated from Coldwater High School and then served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver for most of his life. Richard enjoyed going dancing at the Moose Lodge and collecting model trains. He was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ.

Terry Lee Jenks, 68, died June 15, 2022, at his home. He was born July 9, 1953, in Hutchinson, to James E. and Clara M. (Barnes) Jenks.

Terry was a loving father and grandfather. His lifelong passion was music - owning his own music store / recording studio, “Paradise Sound”, and singing in the “Terry Jenks and The Chapel Singers.” Terry also owned “King’s Royal Imports” in the Hutchinson Mall, was a carpenter and a fireman, and enjoyed military history and old money. He was a lifelong member of Full Gospel Fellowship, which his parents started. He loved singing in the church and was proud of his sisters, Cora and Patty, taking over when his mother wasn’t able. Church, music, and family were his life.

On July 22, 1974, Terry married Lela M. Metzger, in Hutchinson. They later divorced but remained close friends.

He is survived by: his children, Heath Jenks of Hutchinson, Heather Streck and husband Ryan of Great Bend; grandchildren, Paige, Haley, Gracie Jenks, Cole Streck, Blake Streck; brother, Richard Jenks of Hutchinson; sister, Cora Stokely and husband Jerry of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, and wife Virginia; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Don Jenks; sister, Patty Widup and her husband, Harold; and stepfather, Dallas Kimzey.

Stuart (Stu) Allen Spangler, 72, of Sabetha, died Tuesday evening, June 14, 2022 at Lakeside Terrace in Sabetha.

Stuart was born on September 5, 1949 to Merl C. (Cap) and Isabel A. (Izzie) Baxter Spangler. He was welcomed home by an older sister, Alice Ann.&nbsp; Stuart grew up in Herington, where his favorite thing to do was ride his bike around Herington picking up cans. He loved to watch people at work outside and kids at play at the swimming pool, park, and ball fields in the summer months.&nbsp; He was very friendly but shy. He lived a block from the train tracks and liked to watch the train switch in the yard.&nbsp; The 4th&nbsp;of July and Christmas were his favorite holidays.&nbsp; He would light firecrackers with one hand, covering his ears with the other hand.&nbsp; Santa would deliver his presents via a helicopter instead of a sleigh.

Stuart loved spending time and going on vacation with his sister’s family, Alice and Robert Bell, nephews, Marty &amp; Robbin, and niece, Terri. They often traveled to Colorado staying in cabins at Colorado Springs and Estes Park.&nbsp; They also traveled to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

Stuart left Herington around 1984 for Topeka and then moved to Seneca in May of 1990. &nbsp;Except for a 2-year trial of living in his own apartment, Stuart lived at a group home operated by the Nemaha County Training Center. Stuart received support services from NCTC from 1990 to 2018 when he moved to Lakeside Terrace in Sabetha.&nbsp; He was employed by the J-6 Farms hog operation in rural Seneca from September 1995 to June 2011.&nbsp; Stuart absolutely loved working at J-6 with the little pigs!&nbsp; He developed a wonderful friendship with his supervisor, Bob Boden and his wife, Joyce, and other employees at the farm. These were friendships that he cherished and would fondly talk about even after retiring from J-6.

Stuart always had a love for the railroad, which he got from his father.&nbsp; Merl worked for the Rock Island Railroad, holding various jobs including fireman, brake-man, engineer, and conductor.&nbsp; Stuart’s room was always decorated with train décor that he loved to collect, and he loved to wear t-shirts with train logos and his engineer’s cap. For his 50th&nbsp;birthday, his wonderful friends, Lorna and Ed Farrell, took him to Railroad Days in Topeka.&nbsp; While at Lakeside Terrace he was able to go see the Union Pacific Big Boy Steam Engine and frequently visited Van’s Electric model train collection in Fairview, Kansas.&nbsp; Stuart always looked forward to every holiday because his loving niece, Terri, would always send him a package.&nbsp; Stuart cherished each package she sent.

Stuart was known by everyone in Seneca and was very self-sufficient!&nbsp; Stuart would visit every job site, inquiring on what they were building and monitoring their progress.&nbsp; He would also sit for hours by the railroad tracks when a train crew was working.&nbsp; He was known to ride his tricycle around town helping keep Seneca clean.&nbsp; Stuart had a wagon made for his tricycle so he could pick up trash or pop cans to recycle.&nbsp; You never knew what Stuart was going to bring home that were “treasures” in his wagon!&nbsp; He always had a plan or a project in mind for those “treasures” he found along the way.

Stuart was preceded in death by his parents, Merl on November 3, 1984, and Isabel on November 10, 1981; his sister and brother-in-law, Alice Ann Bell on November 22, 2013 and Robert J. Bell on December 26, 2021; and a great-nephew, Colbie Bell.

Stuart is survived by his legal guardian and long-time friend, Susan L. Bowman and husband, Dr. David A. Bowman; his nephews, Marty (wife, Kelly) Bell and Robbin Bell; his niece, Terri Winter (husband, Ron); great-nephews, Tyler Bell and Colton Bell; a great-niece, Brooke Bell; and many wonderful and caring friends in the Sabetha and Seneca communities.

A memorial will be held at a later date in the Fellowship Center at 1441 Virginia St., Sabetha. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington, at a later date.

Geraldine Evelyn “Gerry” Bircher, 94, died peacefully June 15, 2022, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born June 6, 1928, in Walton, to Paul Vernon and Viola Martha (Weiser) Stratton.&nbsp;

Gerry graduated from Walton High School in 1946 and attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, majoring in music.&nbsp; While there, she met her future husband, Kenneth Orville (KO) Bircher.&nbsp; They were married May 28, 1948, in Walton, and shared almost 74 years of marriage before his death on March 2, 2022.&nbsp;

After marriage, Gerry and KO moved to Galva and then Norwich, where she began her lifelong love and passion of giving piano and organ lessons in her home. Over the years, she taught hundreds of students to play the piano and organ.&nbsp; Gerry was a talented and gifted musician who could sight-read and transpose any piece of music.&nbsp; She played for weddings (even some of her own children’s weddings), funerals, and served as the church organist for many area churches; if music was involved, she wanted to be a part of the event.&nbsp; Gerry entertained the crowds at the NJCAA basketball tournament, the Miss Hutch Pageant, and accompanied various performers at the Kansas State Fair.&nbsp; She also helped the family run the Drummer Boy restaurant and manage rental properties, when she was not teaching or playing the piano or organ for some community event.&nbsp;

With her busy schedule, she had little time for hobbies, but Gerry loved to cook for her five active children, and many of their friends, who she would take under her wing and offer a place to stay.&nbsp; She loved to babysit her grandchildren, and enjoyed visits from her great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Watching basketball and baseball, and playing Bridge were also some of Gerry’s favorite pastimes.&nbsp;

Gerry is survived by:&nbsp; children, Diane Shirack (Mike) of Centennial, CO, Joan Gibson (Roger) of Wichita, Gene Bircher (Jennifer) of&nbsp; Longmont, CO, Paula Payton (Greg) of Hutchinson, and Craig Bircher (Mary) of Richmond, VA; brother, Alden Stratton of Hesston; grandchildren, Chad Shirack (Lora), Amanda Herndon (Dustin), Curtis Gibson (Kara), Kinzie Flowers (James), Bailey Lardes (Doug), Will Bircher (Morgan), Morgan Starkweather (James), Grady Payton (Brooke), Samantha Rose, Crosby Branham (Cody), Dr. Walter G. Bircher, and Dr. Josie Bircher; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Many years ago, Gerry and KO built a cabin in Southeast Colorado that is now a family heirloom.&nbsp; Countless memories have been made throughout the years at the cabin.&nbsp; It was Gerry and KO’s wishes to have a private family service at the cabin.

30, 1942. Passed away on June 7, 2022 from Fort Dodge. 

John was the son of John Byron Martin and Eva Ruth
Dooley.&nbsp; 

A lifelong Kansas resident, he joined the Kansas Army National
Guard and served 23 years with the units in Augusta, Dodge City and Garden
City.&nbsp; He retired with the rank of 1st
Sergeant. 

John grew up tinkering on cars.&nbsp; He became a Ford mechanic and worked at Ford
dealerships.&nbsp; He had a knack for it and
people would call him from all over the state to help diagnose issues for
repairs.&nbsp; 

John married first to Sharon Neufeld.&nbsp; They had 3 daughters: Kimberly, Connie, and
Lisa. John and Sharon divorced in 1981.&nbsp;
John married Patty Henson (nee Randall) and became a father to her 2
young daughters, Lorna and Debbie.&nbsp; They
were married almost 39 years before Patty passed away in 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp; 

John spent many years working in the pits on dirt track
sprint cars for Evert “Pappy” Isaac’s 6 &amp; 8 Speed Shop in Dodge City.


John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, his
grandparents, Joseph and Latillie Martin and Clinton and Mabel Dooley.&nbsp; He is also preceded in death by his
stepdaughter, Lorna Henson and a greatgranddaughter, Lejand.

John is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Converse and her

Timothy Aaron Simon (61) passed on Friday, June 3, 2022 in Haysville, where he resided for the last 6 months. He was born in Wichita, on September 2nd, 1960 to Vincent Joseph Simon and Nancy Colene (Roeder) Simon. 

He was a graduate of Andale High School in 1978. Past employment included Dubuque Packing House and Coleman Company. He enjoyed spending time with friends, coffee and shopping. Timothy is preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Nancy Simon. Past employment included Dubuque Packing House and Coleman Company. He enjoyed spending time with friends, coffee and shopping. Timothy is preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Nancy Simon. She leaves behind her sisters Jolene, Kathy, Shirley and Leanda. Mary was born in Little River, KS to Robert and Barbara Ehly; they raised her in Mitchell, KS. She enjoyed being part of the Mighty Mitchell 4H Club, where she found her love for animals. She attended high school in Lyons.

Her favorite pastime times included thrift store shopping, taking care of her farm and domesticated animals, and reading cookbooks.&nbsp; To know Mary, was to love Mary. She could light up a room with her beautiful, happy, smile.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was an amazing wife, mother, sister and friend.

Peggy Wiseman, 74, passed away on June 12, 2022. She was born December 4, 1947 in Wichita, to Ernest and Victoria (Hase) Vaughn. She attended Wichita East High School and later attended Friends University and Wichita State University. She was a lifelong resident of Wichita.

Her careers spanned from being an LPN, a real estate agent, an insurance agent, a general contractor, a draftsman, and most recently and for several years of her life, an investor.

She had a passion for garage sale shopping and was always hunting for a good deal. Many treasures in her home were thrifted and redone with care - her house was filled with second hand furniture made beautiful again. Estate sales were her happy place.

She had a giant and everlasting love for sugar - a massive sweet tooth would be an understatement. Her grandkids always knew where to find her stash of candy in the bottom drawer in the kitchen. When she made her dinner plate, dessert was always next to the main dish - and usually as a bigger portion than the main dish.

Another love of hers was games. Cards or board - she&nbsp;loved&nbsp;to play games. Hours and hours of laughing took place around a deck of cards or a game of Catch Phrase. Her family (nicely) groaned when she was put on their team since she never quite understood the impending timer buzz.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Victoria and Ernest Vaughn, and her sister, Judy Hacker. She is survived by her children: Billy Wiseman, Becky (Brian) Wilken; her brother, Gene (Sharon) Vaughn; her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Grammy”: Erica (Brian) Green, Heather (Domenic) Rabone, Ryan (Tiffany) Wilken, Brent (Claire) Wiseman, Jacob Wilken, Jonathan Wilken, Jeremy Wilken; 10 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and several other loving family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

A. Bearden, 76, passed away on June 10, 2022, in Wichita, Kansas, after
enduring a long
illness -- but only after a much longer, and very full, life.

Dennis
lived his first several years in Ash Flat, Arkansas. As a child, he moved with
his family to Hutchinson. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1963 and Wichita State University
in 1967, with a degree in secondary education. 

In Hutchinson, he met the love
of his life,
Sara. They married on Dec. 21, 1968.

For a
time, he taught school. For much of his career, he worked as a commercial
construction estimator.
Dennis continued to work into his 70s. But with Sara he found all kinds of
recreation.

He
appreciated Sara's cooking and enjoyed eating out in Wichita and Kansas City.
He would give an
account of something Sara had cooked or a meal out, and whether it was a simple sandwich
or fine dining, he would emphatically conclude, "And it was
wonderful!" The couple were
long-time Kansas City Chiefs fans, attending games in all kinds of losing or
winning seasons
and weather over the decades. They were devoted patrons of the Wichita
Symphony.

They
went on cruises and traveled to Europe with friends. They enjoyed ballroom
dancing together.
He did not take the pleasures and simple comforts of life for granted. One of
his annual
rituals was going to Dollar Day at the Kansas State Fair and getting a Pronto
Pup.

Dennis
will be remembered for his entertaining stories, his piercing blue eyes and
thick white hair,
his gentle demeanor -- and his kindness, from giving a ride to a stranger who
needed a lift from the
grocery store, to dropping off fire-starter wood from his oak tree or bananas
on sale to the
front porch of a friend. He had a family of longtime friends. He made sure to
feed the birds and give
them water, even in frigid weather, in his backyard. He and Sara nurtured a
succession of
beloved house cats.

In all
these ways, and countless more, Dennis left his mark and will be missed. For
all these reasons
and more, he was loved. Dennis
was preceded in death by his parents, William and Estie Bearden; sisters,
Elwanda Curley
and Tommy Richardson; and brothers, Don Bearden and Billy Bearden.

Survivors
include his wife, Sara Bearden; sisters, Elaine Collins and Linda Day; and

Aggie graduated from Jamestown High School.&nbsp; She was a homemaker, and along with her husband, Andy Anderson, owned Triple A Trash Service. Aggie could often be seen driving the trash truck.&nbsp; In addition, she enjoyed driving a school bus for USD 309.&nbsp; Aggie had an ornery side, and enjoyed crocheting, bowling, playing Bingo, and Garth Brooks (even seeing him perform at the Kansas State Fair).&nbsp; She spent 18 winters with Andy at Fountain of Youth Spa, Niland, CA.&nbsp; Aggie was a member of Nickerson United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

On August 2, 1953, she married Alden “Andy” Albert Anderson, in Jamestown.&nbsp; They shared 67 years of marriage, before his death on February 2, 2021.

Aggie is survived by:&nbsp; children, Gary Anderson (Jo Anne) of Ocean Shores, WA; Larry Anderson (Donna Givens) of Nickerson; Janice Coon (Troy) of Hutchinson; Connie Yost (Robert) of Pottsboro, TX; and Brenda Guisinger (Steven) of Moore, OK; sister, Esther Beaushaw of Beloit; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren (with one on the way); one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lonnie Marvin Sidebottom, 84, died June 11, 2022, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler. He was born June 6, 1938, in Lewis, to Lawrence and Grace (Harris) Sidebottom.

Lonnie attended Hutchinson High School. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserves from 1956-1963. Lonnie worked at Carey Salt for 43 years and was the “powder man” / “explosives expert” for the last 15 years before retiring. After retirement he gave tours in the Strataca Museum. Lonnie was a hard worker and enjoyed home improvement projects and was in the Antique Club. He was a Christ-follower who lived out his faith and values in the community with his church, workplace and family.&nbsp;

On June 15, 1958, Lonnie married Nelda N. Owens. She died April 23, 2002. On January 11, 2003, he married Amelia “Midge” Sinclair. She survives.

John was born on February 26, 1941, in Fairlane, OK, the son of Vernon M. and Ruby (May) Guffey.&nbsp; He graduated from Codell High School.&nbsp; He served in the United States Army from October 31, 1963 to October 29, 1965.&nbsp; On December 29, 1969, John was united in marriage to Kay F. Basgall in Loretta.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Jeffrey, Brian, and Betty.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post #24.&nbsp;

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Kay of the home; two children, Brian Guffey of McPherson, and Betty Laney (Josh) of Walton; four grandchildren, Kane Guffey, Katelyn Guffey, Nichole Yianakopulos, and Caleb Laney; two great-grandchildren, Landyn Koons and Koda McFadden; a brother, Richard Guffey (Deb) of Hays; sister-in-law, Carol Guffey of Brunswick, GA; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Guffey; sister, Janis Johnson; a son, Jeffrey Guffey; a grandson, Trenton Yianakopulos; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Guffey.

Karen is survived by her husband, David, of the home; two sons, Justin Brooks ( Sandi) of Eudora, and Josh Brooks of Harrah, Oklahoma, and one daughter, Meagan Sparks ( Eric) of Carmel, Indiana; mother in law, Marilyn Ochs ( Bacha) of Hutchinson, Kansas; brother, Mike McGurk ( Sue) of Larned, Kansas; grandchildren, Shayanne of Harrah, Oklahoma, Drew, Max and Violet of Eudora, Madeline and Benjamin of Carmel, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Zelpha Jean McGurk and one brother Patrick McGurk.

She attended high school in Lyons.&nbsp; Her favorite pastime times included thrift store shopping, taking care of her farm and domesticated animals, and reading cookbooks.&nbsp; To know Mary, was to love Mary. She could light up a room with her beautiful, happy, smile.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was an amazing wife, mother, sister and friend.

In addition to being a homemaker, Joyce worked as a church secretary, in the accounting department at Sears in San Francisco, the first female store manager in Hutchinson at Walgreens, Business Administrator at Central Christian Schools, and activities director at Elm Grove Senior Center. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and a prayer support group for Open Door Pregnancy Care Center.

Joyce enjoyed painting, photography, entertaining, floral arranging, cake decorating, interior design and organization, and hosting get-togethers.

She is remembered as living out her faith, being nurturing, fun-loving, sensitive to other’s needs, valuing time spent with family, and finishing all tasks given to her.

On June 29, 1958, Joyce married David M. Razo, in Hutchinson. They shared nearly 64 years of marriage. He survives.

Also surviving are: daughters, Joni Razo-Heldreth (Russell) of Hutchinson; Annette Klassen (Wayne) of Mountain Lake, MN; Reba Childerston (Jon) of Kansas City, MO; foster daughter, Carol Pfister (Martin) of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale Gilley (Edie) of Walnut Grove, MO; Don Gilley (Darleen) and Bart Gilley (Nancy), all of Wales, MA; sister-in-law, Linda Gilley of Somers, CT, and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, O’Dell and Marie Gilley; a son, Ramon; and brothers, Lonnie and Neil Gilley.

Private family burial will take place in Fairlawn Burial Park.

Jeanette Marie Vierthaler passed away peacefully in Hutchinson, KS on June 13, 2022 at the age of 85. She was born on May 29, 1937 to Herman and Margaret (Gillen) Kimminau in Nashville.&nbsp; Jeanette graduated from Zenda High School in Zenda, in 1955 and attended Cosmetology School in Wichita. She married the love of her life, Dennis Nicholas Vierthaler, on May 30, 1958 at St. John’s Church in Zenda. Together, Jeanette and Dennis raised three children, Tim, Dan, and Sheila.

Jeanette spent most of her career working as Personnel Director for K-Mart in Hutchinson.&nbsp; She enjoyed interacting with people and helping others.&nbsp; Jeanette was an avid gardener and bird watcher.&nbsp; She enjoyed taking vacations camping, swimming, and fishing with her family.&nbsp; Jeanette was a kind and loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a good, honest, trustworthy, generous, compassionate person and a friend to all who knew her. Jeanette took great pride in her family and enjoyed providing delicious homemade meals that brought her family together.

Jeanette had a strong Catholic faith and was an active member of the Church of the Holy Cross in Hutchinson, KS. Jeanette gave generously of her time to her church, serving as President of the Altar Society and as Wedding Reception Coordinator.&nbsp; She helped provide meals to those less fortunate through Harvest House and was a charter member of Perpetual Adoration at Church of the Holy Cross.&nbsp; Jeanette donated her time and talent in volunteering at the Hutchinson Zoo and the Hutchinson Library.&nbsp; She served leadership roles in Girl Scouts and 4H, was an active member of the Hutchinson Horticulture Club, and cheerfully provided transportation for elderly residents of Wesley Towers.

Jacob Andrew Moore, 31, died suddenly at his home on June 11, 2022.&nbsp; He was born April 27, 1991, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Monty G. and Katherine R. (Furrey) Moore.

Jacob was an intellectual and he pursued everything he became interested in with great passion until he was ready to dive into something new.&nbsp; He was a gamer and connected with others by streaming on an online gaming platform.&nbsp; His most recent pursuit was teaching himself to code.&nbsp; As a child, he was an exceptional violinist and had rekindled this hobby in recent years.

Jacob had a sweet, sensitive soul and was known for his great hugs.&nbsp; He had a vibrant smile.&nbsp; Though most who met Jacob would never know, he worked hard to overcome a long-time struggle with his mental health.&nbsp; We are thankful that before his death he had the opportunity to overcome these issues and had established a life that he could manage despite his struggles.&nbsp;

He was uncompromising in his ideas and beliefs.&nbsp; Everyone who knew him described him as kind and caring.&nbsp; He loved his family and was always a mama’s boy.

Rose Ethel (Fast) Funk Epp, 95, of Buhler, Kansas, passed away June 13, 2022 at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community. She was born October 7, 1926 in Liberal, Kansas, the daughter of David D. and Elizabeth (Suderman) Fast.

She grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Hardesty High School in 1945. Rose attended Tabor College and Wichita State University and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.&nbsp;She was a devoted homemaker,&nbsp;mother, grandmother,&nbsp;teacher, and gardener.

Rose most wanted to be remembered for her faith, hope, and love. She became a follower of Jesus at 12 and was baptized at 14. She was an active member of Open Bible Mennonite Brethren (MB) Church, First MB Church (Wichita), and Buhler MB Church. She loved singing hymns, reading the Bible, and praying.

Rose was united in marriage to Cornelius J. Funk Jr. on August 21, 1952 in Hooker, Oklahoma. They had 5 children: Janice (Paul) Smith of Siloam Springs, AR; Mary (Jason) Trego of Thompson Falls, MT; Laura (Craig) Peterson of Meridian, ID; Joel (Annette) Funk of Siloam Springs, AR; and Mark (Denise) Funk of Surprise, AZ. Cornelius passed away March 7, 1995. Rose later married Harold Epp on May 31, 2003. He passed away on January 19, 2021.

In addition to her children, Rose is survived by 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Viola Funk of Corn, OK; brothers, Harold (Ann) Fast of Hillsboro and Jake (Mary Jane) Fast of Guymon, OK; Harold’s children, Beverly (Mike) Sullivan, Nancy (Paul) Belknap, David (Arlene) Epp and Paul (Hildy) Epp; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;Rose was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Mildred Rosendale and David Fast. She loved and was deeply loved by many family and friends.

They had 5 children: Janice (Paul) Smith of Siloam Springs, AR; Mary (Jason) Trego of Thompson Falls, MT; Laura (Craig) Peterson of Meridian, ID; Joel (Annette) Funk of Siloam Springs, AR; and Mark (Denise) Funk of Surprise, AZ. Cornelius passed away March 7, 1995. Rose later married Harold Epp on May 31, 2003. He passed away on January 19, 2021.In addition to her children, Rose is survived by 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Viola Funk of Corn, OK; brothers, Harold (Ann) Fast of Hillsboro and Jake (Mary Jane) Fast of Guymon, OK; Harold’s children, Beverly (Mike) Sullivan, Nancy (Paul) Belknap, David (Arlene) Epp and Paul (Hildy) Epp; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;Rose was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Mildred Rosendale and David Fast. She loved and was deeply loved by many family and friends.The visitation is scheduled&nbsp;on Thursday, June 16, 2022&nbsp;from 2 to 2:45 pm&nbsp;at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 US-54, Wichita, KS 67209. Burial will follow at 3 pm, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The memorial service will be held Sunday, June 19 at 2 pm at Buhler MB Church and livestreamed at www.facebook.com/BuhlerMBChurch.&nbsp;
