Merwyn Lee McGuire, 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Brookdale Skyline, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Merwyn was born on January 12, 1933 to parents, Edwin McGuire and Louise (Jones) McGuire in Pratt. He was married to MaryLou (Smith) McGuire and together they had four children. He graduated from Pratt High School on May 25, 1951. In his later years, Merwyn was active in his community and church. He was a member of Faith Lutheran and attended the Johnstown Breakfast Club every Tuesday. He was a member of the Johnstown City Council and enjoyed attending local sporting events held at Roosevelt High School in Johnstown, where you were sure to find him rooting on the home team. He was passionate about his gardening and had an abundance of beautiful roses to show for it. Merwyn is survived by his four children, Marlin, Milinda, Madel and Marlo; sister, Karellen Larrison; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Merwyn is preceded in death by his wife, MaryLou; parents Edwin and Louise, and his brothers, EJ and Dickey. Cremation has taken place. Delores Twila Goering, 86, died on August 18, 2022, at Paramount Community Living in Newton, after a family weekend with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was born on October 25, 1935, in Goessel, the daughter of William and Gertrude (Balzer) Schroeder. She was one of five children.

Delores met her future husband Leonard “Len” Goering, and after two years of dating, the couple married in September of 1955 at Tabor Mennonite Church, rural Goessel. Leonard and Delores were married 64 years, prior to Len’s passing in September of 2019.

Delores enjoyed nurturing her family and creating a home for them. She enriched the family life with her love of travel, singing, cooking, baking, sewing, and compassion for the disabled and less fortunate. Her personal relationship with her Lord and Savior were evident in her kind and loving character. Her daily devotions and Bible studies were the center of her faith, as well as singing in the church choir, participating with Women in Mission, and other Faith Mennonite Church activities.

Delores supplemented the family income by being a daycare provider, bookkeeper at the Kansas State Bank, and a Mary Kay Consultant. She valued the relationships she built with children, co-workers, and clients. They were also blessed to have her in their circle.

Delores is survived by her children, Mark (Alice) Goering, Tim (Cheri) Goering, Russell (Julie) Goering, and Lori Tortorice; eight grandchildren, Ben, Anna (Jamar), Adam (Andrea), Jessie (David), Maggie (Adam), Alyx (Shane), Zach, and Grayson; five great-grandsons, Jalen, Javion, Arlo, Jaxton, and Dorian; as well as numerous extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; parents, William and Gertrude Schroeder; brother, Virgil Schroeder; sisters, Sylvia Schmidt, Evelyn Balzer, Ina Bartel; and son-in-law, Michael Tortorice.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2022, at Faith Mennonite Church in Newton, with a graveside service to be held at 7:30 p.m. at Restlawn Gardens of Memory, SW of Newton. A public visitation will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 25th&nbsp;at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. The family will be present at the visitation from 6 to 8 p.m.

Sandra Sue "Sandy" Gibson, 87, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 7:50 a.m., Friday, August 19th, 2022 at Hospice House, Hutchinson. Sandy was born in Dodge City, on December 29, 1934, a daughter of Berniece Irene (Reichenborn) and Dennis Beverly West. Sandy attended the Dodge City and Liberal schools and graduated from Garden City High School, Garden City, in 1952. She then attended Garden City Juco where she met her future husband and they graduated from Fort Hays State College with their teaching degrees. She was a member of First Christian Church (DOC) McPherson, where she was active in many capacities through the years. Through the years Sandy worked for several school districts including, Sublette, Alma, Lyons, and McPherson where she taught Home Economics at McPherson Junior High, McPherson, Kansas. Sandy enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, quilting, was an excellent seamstress, loved playing Scrabble, working all the puzzles in the paper every morning, playing organ and piano and loved spending time with her family. After retirement Sandy loved when her grandchildren would bring their friends over for lunch when they were in high school. Sandra Sue West was united in marriage to Bobby Lee Gibson on February 28, 1954 at Garden City. The young couple established their first home together in Garden City while attending school, and later moved to Hays, where the couple finished their education. Their teaching careers took them to Sublette, Alma, Lyons, and moved to McPherson in the summer of 1971. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, Rob, Tracey, and Brian. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of over 68 years Bobby Gibson, of McPherson; her children, Rob Gibson and wife Lori, of Statesboro, Georgia; Tracey Aitken and husband Larry, of McPherson; and Brian Gibson and wife Jill, of Owasso, Oklahoma; her sister, Carol Buffington and husband Tom, of Papillion, Nebraska; her eight grandchildren, Tanner Gibson and wife Anne, Jordan Sears and husband Andrew, Sarah Henry, Luke Aitken, Madison Liley and husband Matt, McKinley Rincon and husband Jacob, Brennan Gibson, and Brighton Gibson; her 11 great-grandchildren, Emma Gibson, Zoe Gibson, Caleb Sears, Allie Sears, Silas Courtney, Asa Courtney, Wyatt Henry, Levi Henry, Jovey Henry, Quentin Henry, Hudson Liley; other relatives and a host of students and friends. George Russel Shelton, age 91, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022 in St. John. He was born on December 7, 1930 in Arnett, OK. He was the son of Andrew Guy and Pearl (Nichols) Shelton. 

George served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. On December 29, 1955 he married Shirley J. (Sigler) in Borger, TX. George was a resident of St. John, since 1969 coming from Minneola. &nbsp;George was a minister, realtor, mail carrier, Phillips Chemical employee and a bus driver for the St. John School District.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was a minister of the Church of Christ and member of the Kansas Realtor Association. George will be missed by his loving wife, Shirley; daughters, Michelle (Richard) Brensing, Stafford; Natalie Lippoldt, St. John; Shannon (Darrell) Bauer, Hudson; Kari (Craig) Smith, Great Bend; Krista (Rick) McGaugh, Fayetteville, AR; and a son, Jacob (Kelly Lynn) Shelton, Charlotte, NC; 17 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; a son, Russel Dean Shelton; brothers, Calvin, Owen, Dennis, Joe, Jay Roger, and John Shelton and a sister, Hazel Campbell.&nbsp;

Martha loved her jobs, bowling, animals, shopping, swimming, eating desserts and colombian food and watching colombian t.v. shows. She liked to help her family and friends and loved her children, grandchildren and her husband very much. Martha was a very dedicated, organized and best human being, mother, daughter and always worried about her mother.

Bryan Edward Sloan, 42, passed away August 12, 2022. He was born August 23, 1979 in Denver, Colorado to Cheryl Lacey. 

Bryan was a jack of all trades, along with being a welder, he was also a licensed electrician and mechanic. He loved cats. He was very happy being a father and he leaves behind two beautiful young girls, Chloe and Zoe. 

Bryan is survived by his mother, Cheryl Lacey; siblings, Scott Sloan of Denver, CO, Jonathan Sloan (significant other, Tammy Sloan) of Hutchinson, and Amisha Espinoza (Sontos) of Hutchinson, and his significant other, Randee McCoy. 

He is preceded in death by his father Alfred Lee Lacey; grandparents on his mother and fathers side and some aunts and uncles. A memorial service is pending at a later date.&nbsp;

Vinnice “Vee” Mable Brown, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2022 at The Arbors in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Vee was born on July 3, 1932 in Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was the third oldest of 6 children. She was an Army wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.&nbsp; Vee retired in 1994 from the Hutchinson Dental Clinic.&nbsp; She loved baking/cooking for her family, reading, and fishing/camping. Vee was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Frank Brown; and a son, Gerald Keith Brown. She is survived by Chie Brown, Vickie (Brad) Peter, Patty Sutton, Gerald Wayne (Debra) Brown and Gerald Leroy Brown, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Vee was loved and cherished by all. There will be a private memorial service in her honor and burial services will be held in a National Cemetery.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

She graduated Wamego High School in 1949.&nbsp;&nbsp; Darlene spent her life caring for her family and her home.&nbsp; In her free time, Darlene spent her time as an artist.&nbsp; She attended many classes over the years to learn sculpting, carving and jewelry making.&nbsp; In addition, Darlene was an animal lover, talented seamstress, and enjoyed many trips taken with her husband and family.&nbsp; On July 12, 1968, Darlene married Michael Glazer in Manhattan.&nbsp; He survives of the home. She is also survived by two sons, Steven W. Bailey and Michael L. Bailey (Cheryl); three daughters, Robin Bailey, Katrina D. Massengale (Keith), and Jennifer Umscheid (Dwight); 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Tom Sims; and a grandson, Sandy Bailey. Cremation has been chosen with the family choosing to hold a celebration of life at a later date.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Gary Dean Essells, 77, passed away at his home in Hutchinson on August 17, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Terre Haute, IN, on May 26, 1945, the youngest child of Warren and Emma (Jaeschke) Essells.&nbsp; He grew up in Wausau, WI and graduated from the University of Wisconsin.&nbsp; Gary served in the United States army from 1968-70.

Gary was united in marriage to Connie Jo Ary in March 1972.&nbsp; He worked for KSKU radio and KTPS television.&nbsp; In 1976, the family moved to North Platte, NE, where he worked as a communications specialist for the Union Pacific Railroad’s Baily Yards and as chief engineer for KELN/KOOQ radio.&nbsp; Both he and Connie volunteered countless hours to Nebraskaland Days, the official Nebraska state celebration.&nbsp; In 2000, they received the prestigious Dale Studley Award.&nbsp; They also were host parents for 24 years to more than 100 North Platte Community College basketball players.

In 2006, Gary and Connie retired and returned to Hutchinson.&nbsp; He stayed active in many local nonprofit groups until his passing.&nbsp; These include Friends of the Hutchinson Public Library, Central Kansas Corvette Association, Reno County Amateur Radio Association, and Central Kansas Model Railroaders.&nbsp; For several years he also operated excursion trains for the Abilene &amp; Smoky Valley Railroad.

Gary is survived by his daughter Gina Long of Hutchinson, son Tim Long of Clayton, OH, and grandsons Andrew Ysac of Hutchinson and Noah Long of MCRD Parris Island, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Connie, his parents, brother Warren Essells and sister Majorie Colcord.

Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held on Wednesday August 24, 2022, at 10 am at Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Wayne DeWindt officiating. Gary will be escorted to his final resting place by the Central Kansas Corvette Association.

Robert ‘Bob’ E. Gore, passed away August 17, 2022, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born March 15, 1930, in Sawyer, to Leslie Mack Gore and Susie Lillian (Doughart) Gore.

Bob was a 1949 graduate of Sawyer High School, Sawyer.&nbsp; He worked as a machinist at Eaton Corporation, formerly Cessna Fluid Power Division, retiring with over 44 years of service.&nbsp; Bob was a member of the Machinist Union and the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, South Hutchinson.

He was always ‘tinkering’ on cars and motorcycles.&nbsp; If you needed some help, Bob was your ‘go-to-guy’.&nbsp; He would drop whatever he was working on to provide help and assistance to others.&nbsp; Bob enjoyed all kinds of homemade cookies and his drink of choice was Pepsi.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On June 20, 1951, he married Betty Gene Woodworth, in Hutchinson. They shared over 60 years of marriage, prior to her death on March 28, 2012.

Bob is survived by:&nbsp; his children, Marilyn ‘Mary’ Hornbeck, Mike (Shelly) Gore, and Robyn Miller, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Chris Gore, Laura Miller, George (Jenna) Hornbeck, Megan (Marcus) Yoder, and Nick (Rachel) Miller; step-granddaughter, Kelly (Nathan) Alexander; seven great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Grey’s life began on January 26, 1968, in Macon, GA. He was the son of Karen G. (Ward) Buffkin. 

Grey is a 1988 graduate of Derby High School. He had been employed as an electrical lineman, cell phone tower installer and worked for the Wilbert Vault Co. in Wichita. 

Grey was united in marriage to Stacey (Johnson) Bowers on July 5, 1996, in Florence, SC. He loved fishing, dirt track racing, working in his yard, his Clemson Tigers, and Carolina Panthers football. His pure joy and love in life was his wife, kids and his grandbabies. 

His family includes his wife Stacey of Potwin; children Bradley (Cassie) Stalvey of Mt. Vernon, SC; Joe (Megan) Bowers of Wichita; Ashley (Kevin) Andress of Spartanburg, SC; Danni (Stan Spivey) Cook of Wichita; Harley (Chris Ushman) Bowers of West Columbia, SC; and Michael (Ale) Bowers of Wichita; honorary children Rebecca Blackstock of Tabor City, NC, and Matthew Williams of Potwin; 26 grandchildren and a sister Kelly Duncan of Pageland, SC.  Grey passed away at his home on Tuesday August 16, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Karen G.  (Ward) Buffkin, stepfather Larry W. Causey and “Pop” Donnie R.  Buffkin.

Steventon was born September 10, 1933 to Victor Jackson and Norma Jane
Steventon. 

Jean lived a strong life and cared so much for those people that
were fortunate enough to be part of her life. Mom, Mama Jean, Aunt Sis, Grandma
Saunders, whatever your name for her was, she is and always will be missed in
our waking lives. Jean grew up during a hard part of the last 100 years. She had
stern values, deep belief, and an extremely vast amount of love to give. Always
working a number of different jobs she did her best to take care of her family.
Working at restaurants with a bright smile to all of her customers. Taking care
of the plants and flowers at local flower shops. Jean was also a very successful
and popular beauty consultant for Fashion 220 for over ten years. &nbsp;She
lead a team of six ladies to national recognition. 

She was a proud mother of
three children – Doug Jackson, Jacque Wedel, and Matt Jackson. She was
overjoyed to gain three more kids to love with Daryl Wedel, Chelsea Jackson,
and Rose Jackson. Beloved grandkids in Andi, Kati, Abbi, Junior, DJ, Carter,
Skyler, Maddex, and Leo. There was never a moment she faltered in her love and
dedication to her family. Jean was married to Earl Jackson nearly three fabulous
decades. They had a love and passion together that was wonderful to witness.
Unfortunately Earl left this world without her in the spring of 2002. It was
extremely hard on mom as well as the family. Fortunately she found love with
Everette Saunders soon and enjoyed many years together fostering their
grandchildren, feeding the neighborhood raccoons, possums, and any other
person, animal, or thing that needed attention in their later years
together. 

Jean leaves behind so many of us that loved her. Her wonderful brother
Lester Steventon, so many nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted sons and daughters,
too many to count. Every one of you know how much she loved and cared for you.
She never let you forget. Jean was preceded in passing by her husband Everette
Saunders in 2021, her brothers Don and Edward, and her great love, Earl Jackson
Jr. Jean Saunders lived and loved with great passion and enthusiasm. Deep
commitment to her faith and resolute in her kindness. After many years
struggling with health issues she passed away peacefully. Surrounded by her children
and grandchildren and showered with love on the warm, sunny, summer afternoon
of August 12, 2022.What a wonderful experience to have known her.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Glenda Bell, Rita Kimball, and Lawrence Bell. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., at the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. John Louis Beck of Newton, went to Heaven on August 15, 2022, at the age of 89.

He was born on April 21, 1933, in Claflin, the son of Charles and Mary (Bieberle) Beck.

On September 14, 1954, he was united in marriage to Elsie Rous in Claflin. The couple would have celebrated their 68th&nbsp;anniversary.

A longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, John and Elsie gave freely of their time helping with funeral dinners, decorating at Christmas, and helping anywhere they could.

John was a proud veteran who served in the United States Air Force.

John always looked forward to the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, vacationing in Colorado, and taking trips to the east coast. He enjoyed meeting people and made lifelong friends everywhere they traveled.

John is survived by his wife, Elsie Beck; children, Mike Beck and wife Anita, Sandy Liby and husband Steve, Jim Beck and wife Carol, and Theresa Beck; brother, Bob Beck and wife Nancy; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Larry Beck and Jerome Beck; and sister, Evelyn (Beck) Woerz.

The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, August 19, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton. Rosary will take place the same day as the service at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on January 1, 1934, in McPherson, the daughter of Richard and Della (Unruh) Decker.&nbsp;

Survivors include: two sons, Steve Butler of McPherson, KS and Mike (Julie) Butler of McPherson; companion, Robert Crow of Inman; siblings, DaVera (Tom) Leone of Pawtucket, RI, Nola Unruh of Galva, Karen (Herb) Baird of McPherson, Richard “Dick” (Florette) Decker of Colorado, and Carmon Decker of Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren, Brian (Sabrina) Butler of Hoisington, Stephanie (Nathan) Ravenstein of Hutchinson, Dustin (Katie) Butler of Lawrence, and Sarah (J.D.) Reeves of Augusta; ten great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

Karen enjoyed doing art work, reading mystery books, bible studies, dancing and spending time with her friends and family. Karen Porter was united in marriage to Terry Lane Fay on Feb. 7, 1958 in Salina. This union established their first home together in Salina, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, two sons and a daughter, Timothy, Teia and Daniel. She is survived by her husband Terry Fay, of Inman; her children, Timothy Fay and his wife Cindy, of Inman, Teia Janzen and her husband James, of Galva, and Daniel Fay and his wife Janet, of Inman; her siblings, Don Porter, of Gallatin, Missouri, Judy Hall and her husband Darrel, of Ocala, Florida, Rick Lyttel and his wife Jo Beth, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Judy Huff and her husband Lonnie, of Grove, Oklahoma and Debbie Creamer and her husband Lee, of Solon, Iowa. Thomas Michael Kearney, 67, of McPherson, passed away at 2:16 PM, Monday, August 15th, 2022 at Hospice House, Hutchinson. 

Thomas was born in Larned, on October 30, 1954, a son of Regina Mary (Gonnering) and John Thomas Kearney. Thomas attended St. Bernard's Elementary School, Belpre, Kansas, and graduated from Macksville High School, Macksville, in 1973. After high school, he attended Barton County Community College, Great Bend, and graduated from Fort Hays State University, Hays, with his Master's Degree. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Thomas worked for the Leoti, Utica, Palco, Peabody, and McPherson School Districts as a Teacher and Guidance Counselor. 

Thomas Michael Kearney was united in marriage to Teresa Louise Goudy on July 14, 1979 at the Christian Church of Macksville. The young couple established their first home together in Utica. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, Erin Michelle and Kristen Louise. He is survived by his loving and caring wife of over 43 years, Louise Kearney, of McPherson; their children, Erin Kearney, of Silver Spring, Maryland and Kristen Nolan and husband Spencer, of Spring Hill; his brother, David Kearney, of Larned; his four grandchildren, James Daniel, Irena Louise, Joseph Thomas, and Luke Alexander Nolan; nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, John and Regina Kearney, a brother, John Patrick Kearney and a sister, Mary Kathleen Sculley.

Wallace “Wally” Rons, 92, of Arma, passed away at 8:50 A.M., Saturday, August 13, 2022, at his home. He was born August 17, 1929, in Arma, the son of Lay and Anna Polsak Rons. 

Wally was a lifelong Arma resident. He graduated from Arma High School with the class of 1947, and later attended the Chicago Technical College. Wally was a self-employed carpenter and plumber. He also worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation and was a custodian for Northeast High School in Arma. Wally served in the United States Army during the Korean War from October 2, 1951 until his honorable discharge on July 7, 1953 attaining the rank of Sergeant. He received the United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Soldier’s+ Medal and Korean Service Medal with Bronze Camp Star. In July of 2006, Wally was finally awarded the Soldier’s Medal. He was leaving a mess tent near Soksal-lyong, Korea in 1953, when a truck crashed into the tent and caught fire. Wally, who worked in tent, ran back to the fire to help save his buddies. For his actions, he was awarded the Soldier’s Medal, which recognizes heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Arma, where he served as CYO Leader, and member of the American Legion Lon Helm Post #182 of Arma. Wally was also a member of the Arma Christmas Club, where he would replace the burnt-out Christmas lights. 

On April 28, 1951, Wally was united in marriage with Betty J. Zibert at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Arma. They shared 67 years together. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2019. He is also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leo Rons; and great-grandson, Canaan Colby Rons. 

Wally is survived by his daughter, Cindy Ashmore and husband Dave of Arma; son, Barry Rons and wife Joy of St. Johns, MI; four grandchildren, Blayne Rons and wife Teresa of Lyons, Dustin Ashmore and wife Trina of Frontenac, Heather Tedlock and husband Kyle of Frontenac, and Chase Rons and wife Allison of Broken Arrow, OK; and three great-grandchildren, Landon Hege, Brayden Rons, and Fischer Tedlock.

 Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 19, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Arma, with Father Lee Yoakam officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Pittsburg, with military honors by the United States Army- Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Verlin J. Richert, 71, of Assaria, Kansas left his family too soon on Saturday morning, August 13, 2022, after losing his battle with Dementia, surrounded by the love of his family.

Verlin was born on September 9, 1950 in Goessel, the son of Orville and Delores (Jantz) Richert. He was raised and received his education in Durham, Kansas, and graduated from Durham High School in 1968. Verlin left the family farm to attend Brown Mackie College in Salina, receiving an Associates Degree in Business. Verlin met the love of his life Edna L. Berens and they were united in marriage on June 10, 1972, in Durham. They made their home in Salina, Kansas for six years. Verlin and Edna welcomed their son, Preston, in 1974, and their daughter, Pamela, in 1976. Shortly after their children were born, they built a home in Assaria, Kansas where he resided until his passing.

Verlin began his working career at International Harvester after graduating from Brown Mackie College. He then worked for Exide Battery until gaining employment at Forever Oak in Salina, Kansas. This is where he combined his love for wood furniture and craftsmanship and his gift of never knowing a stranger. Verlin opened his own furniture store, Oak Treasures, in Wichita. After closing his store, Verlin retired from Sam’s Club in 2018.

Verlin was an active member of his community and Assaria Lutheran Church. In his younger years, he was a member of the Assaria Jaycees.  He was a 4H project leader in woodworking and assisted in judging projects for many years.  He served as an Assaria City Council member for 8 years, maintained the Assaria Community Building, and also helped with the Assaria Community Garden.

In his free time, Verlin enjoyed woodworking and carving and always looked forward to traveling with Edna and extended family. Whether it be by bus or cruise ship, Verlin and Edna cherished the time they had together to enjoy new experiences and see new places. 

Verlin had such a big heart and his family meant everything to him. He spent his time attending his childrens’ activities, assisted them with 4H fair projects, and lent a helping hand to anyone who was in need. Verlin adored his seven grandchildren and made time to build projects with each. He also traveled all over the state to attend their activities, or just spend time with them. 

Verlin is survived by his wife Edna Richert of the home; son Preston M. Richert (Camille) of Winfield; daughter Pamela M. Hamlin (Chad) of Hugoton; sisters Krystal Jensen of McPherson, Annette Goering (Randy) of Great Bend; brother Bentley Richert (Connie) of Buhler; a very special aunt Lillian Peters (Joe) of North Newton; grandchildren Rozlynn Richert, Rhyanna Richert, Rheegyn Richert, Rylan Richert, Mitchell Hamlin, McKenna Hamlin, and Mikyn Hamlin; and many nieces and nephews.

Frances A. Housley, 97, died August 16, 2022, at Harry Hines Hospice, Wichita. She was born November 21, 1924, in Tucson, Arizona, to Victor Devine and Venus (Gerlach) Arana.

Frances graduated from Tucson High School in 1942. She worked as a bookkeeper in many industries over the years.

On August 11, 1969, Frances married Edward Noble Housley. He passed away on March 31, 2006.

She is survived by: children, Barbara Collins, Yukon, Oklahoma, Gary Lanning (Tammy), Hutchinson, Debra Smith (Gary), Conway, Kansas; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and brother, Dr. Thomas Arana, Massachusetts.

Frances was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Edward Housley; grandson, Brenn Collins; four sisters; and three brothers.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no services.

The family wishes to recognize and thank granddaughter, Shellee, for her special care of Frances in the last years of her life.

George Robert Rogers went to his heavenly home on August 13, 2022, in the Marion, hospital.

George was born in Herington, on November 11, 1927 to James Albert Rogers and Violet Ethel Mason.&nbsp; He graduated from Herington High School.&nbsp; He served in the United States Army.

He married Dorothy Jane Davenport in El Dorado, on December 11, 1947 and they were married for 65 years until her passing in 2013.

In the early 60’s George and some others kept the church league baseball program going in Herington, and at the end of the season, the players were taken to KC to watch Kansas City play the Yankees.&nbsp; He umpired a lot of ballgames, to include the church league, girls teams, and American Legion.&nbsp;&nbsp;

George loved to give blood.&nbsp; He was disappointed he wasn’t able to give his 100th&nbsp;pint.&nbsp; He had a rare blood type and one time was called off his postal route to give blood for someone.&nbsp; He worked a short while for Beech Aircraft and then worked for the Post Office about 30 years and estimated that he walked the equivalent of 1 ½ times around the world delivering the mail in Herington.

George loved to give a dollar to little kids when he would see them as it brought him great joy.

He attended Rock Island Church in Herington for many years.&nbsp;

He liked living at the Hilltop.&nbsp; He played pool, worked puzzles, and talked to everyone getting on and off the elevator.&nbsp; He recently moved to Marian Assisted Living and was happy in his short time there.

George is survived by four children:&nbsp; Mike Rogers (Pat) Kerrville, TX; Linda Troop (Judson) Lawton, OK; Dean Rogers, Tucson, AZ, and Kent Rogers, Herington; four grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and brother Jack Rogers, Wichita.

Preceding him in death were his wife; his parents; a brother, James Rogers; a sister, Alberta (Berky) Smith; and great grandson Caulen Hendon.

A private family celebration of his life was held at the Herington cemetery on August&nbsp; 14, 2022.

Bonita Joan Heinrichs, 85, of Goessel, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Schowalter Villa.&nbsp; Bonnie was born on June 21, 1937.&nbsp; She was the first child of Otto J. and Martha C. (Schmidt) Unruh.

She was born at the Newton Hospital and grew up on a farm near Goessel.&nbsp; Her parents lived on several rental farms around Goessel and eventually moved to her father’s family farm east of Goessel. &nbsp;Bonnie attended school at Green Valley District 32 in Marion County and graduated from Goessel High School in 1955.&nbsp; Her first job was as a floor girl at Bethesda Hospital in Goessel.&nbsp; She met Lowell Heinrichs while they were both attending Goessel High School. &nbsp;Lowell and Bonnie were married on June 1, 1956 at the Tabor Mennonite Church near Goessel, KS.&nbsp; &nbsp;During that time, Reverend H. B. Schmidt was advising young couples getting married to go into 1-W service.&nbsp; Lowell and Bonnie moved to Evanston, Illinois where they both worked as nurse aids. After two years of 1-W service, Lowell &amp; Bonnie moved home to Hillsboro, KS where Bonnie worked at home and Lowell took a job at The Hillsboro Body Shop.&nbsp; They lived in several different rental houses before buying their first home on South Ash Street in Hillsboro, KS.&nbsp; Two sons were born to them. &nbsp;Romney was born in the Evanston Hospital in Illinois and Kendall was born in the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel, KS.&nbsp; In 1970, Bonnie &amp; Lowell purchased and moved to the farm east of Goessel where the boys grew up and attended school.&nbsp;

In 1969, Bonnie started attending Tabor College in Hillsboro and graduated in 1972 with a degree in English &amp; German language.&nbsp; She attended Emporia State University for two summers and in the fall of 1973, accepted a job as librarian in the Remington/Whitewater School District.&nbsp; She was in charge of five small school libraries, a different school each day of the week.&nbsp; In 1974, she became the librarian at Goessel USD 411 as the secondary level librarian.&nbsp; For the next 24 years she was the librarian at Goessel High School. She again took classes at Emporia State University during the summers and in 1983 received a Master’s Degree in Special Education &amp; Learning Disabilities. &nbsp;During her time at GHS Bonnie was also the Junior class sponsor for many years which was an interesting and enjoyable time working with students outside of the classroom.&nbsp;

Bonnie grew up in the Tabor Mennonite Church, was baptized on June 6, 1954 by Reverend H.B. Schmidt, and was an active member until her death.&nbsp; She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, vacation bible school, and being a member of the Willing Helpers Sewing Society. She was also church librarian and archivist for many years.

Bonnie enjoyed reading, gardening, embroidery, and quilt making.&nbsp; She enjoyed raising flowers and plants in her greenhouse from which she also contributed plants &amp; flowers to the MCC sale in Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; Lowell &amp; Bonnie enjoyed trips to visit family and also camping and fishing trips with family and friends.&nbsp; Bonnie enjoyed playing and working with her grandchildren and enjoyed having family over for the holidays. Lowell &amp; Bonnie took an Alaskan Cruise with their children &amp; grandchildren for their 50th&nbsp;wedding anniversary.

Bonnie &amp; Lowell enjoyed living on the farm until March 2020 when they moved to the Lakeside Apartments in Hesston, KS.&nbsp; There Bonnie continued to fill her time with plants, flowers, &amp; lots of reading.&nbsp; Bonnie lived at the Schowalter Villa Health Care Center at the time of her passing.

Bonnie is survived by her son, Romney (Donna) Heinrichs, grandchildren, Andrew &amp; Katrina of Hesston; son, Kendall (Jana) Heinrichs, grandchildren, Vanessa &amp; Logan of Wichita, KS; brother, Robert (Connie) Unruh of Newton; sister, Mae (Dean) Nelson of McPherson; and sister, Elaine (John) Ratzlaff of Buhler. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Heinrichs; parents, Otto &amp; Martha Unruh; and infant twin brothers.
