RENO COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 8 p.m. Monday in Reno County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by James E. Higson, 66, Plainville, was traveling northeast on Kansas 61 just south of Burns Street in Turon.

The motorcycle left the roadway to the right and entered the ditch.&nbsp; The driver lost control, overturned and was ejected.

EMS transported&nbsp;Higson to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the KHP.

Kan. man hospitalized after Reno Co. motorcycle accident

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas is concerned about the uptick in road rage incidents in recent years.

"We just see a lot more aggressive behavior on the roads these days," Steward said. "Whether that is speeding, tailgating, weaving in and out of traffic. A lot of these things have turned into violent situations, where road rage turns into flashing a weapon or actually shooting people."

Data from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that nearly 80 percent of drivers expressed significant anger, aggression or road rage behind the wheel at least once within the previous 30 days.

"Road rage is a problem," Steward said. "Especially the violent situations. In 2022, 554 people were shot during road rage incidents nationwide, resulting in 413 injuries and 141 deaths. That's twice the number from what we saw in 2018."

The Foundation also found that potentially aggressive actions―such as tailgating, erratic lane changing or illegal passing―are a factor in up to 56% of fatal crashes.

"We're just reminding people to keep your cool," Steward said. "It's hard to do sometimes when it's hot, when you're stuck in traffic, you're running late. It's important to really be aware of these situations and what may trigger you or other drivers."

When you pull to the side or change lanes and let an aggressive driver pass, they will typically be glad they’re on their way and not try to engage further.

AAA: Stay calm while driving; avoid road rage incidents

How do scientists find these planets orbiting stars outside of our solar system? What have they discovered?&nbsp; Find out at the&nbsp;15th annual Galaxy Forum&nbsp;to be held August 26 in Hutchinson. Jonathan Brande, from the University of Kansas&nbsp;physics and astronomy department’s&nbsp;&nbsp;renowned EXOLab will share his lab’s work in this fascinating area of astrophysics.

This Ad Astra Kansas Foundation Galaxy Forum, entitled “Asteroids, Eclipses, Exoplanets and more” will be at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, August 26.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is free and open to the public.

September brings the return of soil samples taken by the OSIRIS-REx mission from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu.&nbsp;&nbsp;Also, the Psyche mission launches in October to the asteroid 16 Psyche. Is it made of nickel and iron as is suspected? Sarah Lamm of the KU&nbsp; geology department, will talk about these missions and their&nbsp; importance.

Keeping our (shaded) eyes on the sky, the NASA Eclipse Ambassador team of Charles Garcia and Ed Bierens will speak about the upcoming solar eclipses occurring October 14 and in April 2024. And illustrate with demos.&nbsp; Free&nbsp; glasses given out

Galaxy Forum Science event at Cosmosphere Aug. 26

NEWTON, Kan. —The State Historic Preservation Office notified the City of Newton on Friday of a successful $30,000 Historic Preservation Fund grant to fund a survey of historic resources in downtown Newton. 

The City plans to re-survey the downtown to assist with future historic rehabilitation projects and Main Street initiatives.

&nbsp;Newton's award was one of seven projects across the state for a total of $169,319.

Newton gets historic preservation grant

The summer heat of 2023 continues to make itself known. While I hear the local weather personalities referring to this heat as part of the “Dog Days of Summer,” I can’t help but wonder when this extreme heat we’ve continually experienced in July and August will end. &nbsp; My weather app has shown more images of a blazing sun and cactus with the words “Very Hot” in its 10-day forecast for more days than I care to remember. While I appreciate the artistic representation of the obvious extreme heat so many of us are currently experiencing, I wonder if we could possibly get some additional images added that would capture the essence of our current weather status.&nbsp; &nbsp; Perhaps an image of a dripping ice cream cone with the blazing sun overhead, an image of someone sticking their face into a freezer or an image of an individual sitting within the breeze of a fan blowing over a very large ice cube. These are all new images I’d suggest to my weather app if they were crowdsourcing suggestions for updated “Very Hot” icons. &nbsp; Upon further review, I think I’d also suggest that my weather app consider the individual user or the specific location of said user when creating the visual content associated with the 10-day forecast. &nbsp; While I stumble upon cactus growing in central Kansas on occasion, I really feel the image my weather app could utilize should be more reflective of my surroundings while experiencing this oppressive heat. &nbsp; For example, a cartoon image of two children cannonballing into a stock tank with a blazing sun overhead would be quite representative for me. &nbsp; Perhaps an illustrator could capture the image of our primarily outside farm dog, Rosie, sprawled out with her belly covering the cool tile floor in our bathroom, laying near a floor vent blasting cold air onto her. &nbsp; Maybe someone could draw up an image of a cow standing in a farm pond wearing an umbrella hat. Of course, that image would suggest that there’s enough water in our farm ponds in the first place – which would not be accurate based on our current status. Since dried-up ponds on our farm is the current situation, maybe an image of a cow hiding in the shade of the trees, or a cow sipping from a large straw coming out of a stock tank would be more symbolic of our present condition. &nbsp; I wonder if someone could create an artistic rendering of our dryland corn or dryland soybeans waving a white flag and saying, “We Give Up!” &nbsp; Surely my weather app will update any day now with an image of a simple, pleasant sun partially behind a cloud. Perhaps an image of a cloud with raindrops will also soon appear. Surely the images on my weather app will change and suggest that we are getting to the end of this heat. I’m not sure when the weather app image updates will happen, but I guarantee I’m checking for those changes on a daily basis with the hope that the end of the Dog Days of Summer are near. HUTCHINSON, Kan.&nbsp;— Cody and Becca Ruebke recently bought into the XP
League franchise with hopes of bringing positivity and safe online gaming to
the youth of Reno County and the surrounding areas.

XP League is a nationwide youth esports league that has over 50 locations across
the U.S. and Canada. The league is the first Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA)
competitive gaming league in North America for elementary, middle, and high
school aged players.

“We’ve been interested in starting our own business for a while now,” Cody Ruebke
said. “Our kids aren’t super big into sports, but play a lot of video games, so
it just kind of made sense and is something our kids would be interested in,
plus something we’re very passionate about.”

The coaches for the XP League don't just sign up and become a coach
automatically, there is work that has to be done first.

"All of our coaches have to go through a certification," Becca
Ruebke said. "They all have tons of coaching experience and/or really
significant game skills. The coaches training goes through positive
communication and teamwork and how to handle kids getting through a
defeat."

The kids in the league in Hutchinson have the opportunity to play against
other kids from all over the country and do some in a safe space.

"All of our kids get to play against other XP League kids from Texas,
Florida, Washington and so on," Cody Ruebke said. "We have custom
servers, so these kids aren't getting into matches with strangers, we're
actually monitoring all of the servers, so we know they're live against other
XP League kids."

XP League strives to make their product safe for all of its members to
enjoy.

"I could talk all day long about our coaches," Becca Ruebke said.
"We talk a lot about the different benefits. The coaching and the
connection with teammates and the sense of belonging kids get from being on a
team."

Esports is one of the fastest growing industries in the world with several
high schools, colleges and universities adding teams, and for Ruebke that's
another huge positive for the league.

"Kelsey Hensley, the esports coach at HutchCC has done a great job of
being mentors for our kids," Cody Ruebke said. "Trying to bring
esports into the spotlight and being something, people can be excited about.
Also, we want to do this because there are career opportunities and further
education opportunities that go along with this. There is only one high school
in the area with an esports team and that's Buhler. HutchCC has scholarship
opportunities they can give out every year and they don't have enough kids they
can give them out to."

According to Cody Ruebke, there are several opportunities and varieties for
kids to try.

"We offer seven different games right now," Cody Ruebke said.
"XP League is always looking for new games to add to the lineup. When the
kid signs up, they do sign up for a specific game."

When signed up, you're locked into that particular game for eight weeks.

"Each season is eight weeks long," Cody Ruebke said. "You can
switch over from one game to another after that season is up, but you are
required to stay in the one game for eight weeks."

If you or someone you know is interested in signing up, the process is
simple.

"So, everybody has to sign up on our website," Cody Ruebke said.
"Our signup is very similar to a subscription service. Once you sign up,
it will charge your credit card once a month. We have different tiers to our
membership, so price points are different."

Because the franchise is new to the area, there is a discount going on for
those interested in signing up now.

"We are running a founding family discount right now," Cody Ruebke
said. "Everybody that signs up for the league before September 5th gets
$20 off their monthly membership until they get out of the league."

The couple held a grand opening celebration in late July to help promote the
new organization in the area.

"We had a really good turnout for it," Cody Ruebke said. "I
think we gave away 15 or more free coaching sessions, plus we had several walk
ins that showed up, so I felt like it was a success."

The Hutchinson location can be found at 302 E. 30th Ave. in the conference
room of the PRMI building. Although the official league name is "XP League
of NW Wichita" Ruebke said it's more for franchising purposes.&nbsp;

"Our territory stretches to Wichita, so once Hutch is up and operational,
we will move over to Wichita and open up a second location over there,"
Cody Ruebke said.&nbsp;

competitive gaming league in North America for elementary, middle, and high
school aged players.“We’ve been interested in starting our own business for a while now,” Cody Ruebke
said. “Our kids aren’t super big into sports, but play a lot of video games, so
it just kind of made sense and is something our kids would be interested in,
plus something we’re very passionate about.”The coaches for the XP League don't just sign up and become a coach
automatically, there is work that has to be done first."All of our coaches have to go through a certification," Becca
Ruebke said. "They all have tons of coaching experience and/or really
significant game skills. The coaches training goes through positive
communication and teamwork and how to handle kids getting through a
defeat."The kids in the league in Hutchinson have the opportunity to play against
other kids from all over the country and do some in a safe space."All of our kids get to play against other XP League kids from Texas,
Florida, Washington and so on," Cody Ruebke said. "We have custom
servers, so these kids aren't getting into matches with strangers, we're
actually monitoring all of the servers, so we know they're live against other
XP League kids."XP League strives to make their product safe for all of its members to
enjoy."I could talk all day long about our coaches," Becca Ruebke said.
"We talk a lot about the different benefits. The coaching and the
connection with teammates and the sense of belonging kids get from being on a
team."Esports is one of the fastest growing industries in the world with several
high schools, colleges and universities adding teams, and for Ruebke that's
another huge positive for the league."Kelsey Hensley, the esports coach at HutchCC has done a great job of
being mentors for our kids," Cody Ruebke said. "Trying to bring
esports into the spotlight and being something, people can be excited about.
Also, we want to do this because there are career opportunities and further
education opportunities that go along with this. There is only one high school
in the area with an esports team and that's Buhler. HutchCC has scholarship
opportunities they can give out every year and they don't have enough kids they
can give them out to."According to Cody Ruebke, there are several opportunities and varieties for
kids to try."We offer seven different games right now," Cody Ruebke said.
"XP League is always looking for new games to add to the lineup. When the
kid signs up, they do sign up for a specific game."When signed up, you're locked into that particular game for eight weeks."Each season is eight weeks long," Cody Ruebke said. "You can
switch over from one game to another after that season is up, but you are
required to stay in the one game for eight weeks."If you or someone you know is interested in signing up, the process is
simple."So, everybody has to sign up on our website," Cody Ruebke said.
"Our signup is very similar to a subscription service. Once you sign up,
it will charge your credit card once a month. We have different tiers to our
membership, so price points are different."Because the franchise is new to the area, there is a discount going on for
those interested in signing up now."We are running a founding family discount right now," Cody Ruebke
said. "Everybody that signs up for the league before September 5th gets
$20 off their monthly membership until they get out of the league."The couple held a grand opening celebration in late July to help promote the
new organization in the area."We had a really good turnout for it," Cody Ruebke said. "I
think we gave away 15 or more free coaching sessions, plus we had several walk
ins that showed up, so I felt like it was a success."The Hutchinson location can be found at 302 E. 30th Ave. in the conference
room of the PRMI building. Although the official league name is "XP League
of NW Wichita" Ruebke said it's more for franchising purposes.&nbsp;"Our territory stretches to Wichita, so once Hutch is up and operational,
we will move over to Wichita and open up a second location over there,"

New esports league wants to bring safe play, positivity to Hutchinson

The Lyons community now has a regulation full-court outdoor basketball court. The City of Lyons, USD 405, and the Lyons Recreation Commission collaborated on the project to build the court, which is located in the middle of Tobias Park, adjacent to the city swimming pool.

Thanks to the City of Lyons and the generosity of multiple individuals and businesses who donated funds, expertise, and labor, and to the South Central Community Foundation for a $1,000 grant, Lyons children and adults will be able to enjoy the court for years to come.

Former LHS boys’ basketball coach and LHS alum Brian Friess was instrumental in raising funds for the project and has been excited to see the idea become a reality. Coach Friess said, “This court will be great for the town of Lyons. We appreciate the monetary donations from LHS alums and local businesses, along with the labor supplied by so many local people.”

Former LHS girls’ basketball coach BJ Smith added, “I am grateful for the community’s support, giving our kids a chance to play basketball!”

City of Lyons Parks Superintendent Matt Detmer was also happy to see the project completed. He worked with the City of Lyons for approval of the majority of the funding and credits the City Council and Mayor for their support.

USD 405 Superintendent Bill Day echoes the statement of Coach Friess, “I am so happy to see a regulation outdoor court installed in the community. This will be of great benefit now for people simply wanting to play a game or just shoot around, and in the future, as it will undoubtedly help develop future talent.”

Disadvantaged, Minority and Women-Owned Business Certification Workshop in Hutch Aug. 16

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Mayor Jon Richardson let Hutch Post know on Monday that he had received phone calls from those interested in the disposition of the racetrack at the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

"There really isn't anything in our control, versus what is in our control as far as being part of the community," Richardson said. "We really don't have any say over the fairgrounds other than, we're fairgrounds adjacent. We want to be on the same team. What's going on? Tell us what your plans are. We want to know, but it's not our ballpark to play in."

There is not a local representative currently on the Fair Board, but Richardson thinks that might be a good idea, depending on the state's desires.

"I don't see any problem with that," Richardson said. "I don't see why it would be a bad idea. Hutchinson is within the sphere of influence of the fair and the fair is within the sphere of influence of Hutchinson. We interact with each other. It would make sense to have someone local on the Fair Board, unless the state feels like that would give too much of a leg up to the local jurisdiction."

The Fair Board has told those that support the track that they will hold a public meeting on the track's future after the 2023 Kansas State Fair.&nbsp;

Richardson: Despite phone calls on Fairgrounds track issue, nothing city council can do

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Board of County Commissioners will give official approval to disbursing funds for a new industrial park south of South Hutchinson at their meeting on Wednesday.

Growth Inc. is set to receive ARPA funds in the amount of $1.2 million for the development of a K96 industrial park that is in an unincorporated area of Reno County. The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber also received $2 million from the State of Kansas' Base Grant 2.0 for the project.&nbsp;

Debra Teufel talked to Hutch Post about the behind the scenes work needed on how to get water to the new park site that the City of Hutchinson is working on.

"They are in the midst of studies," Teufel said. "They had engaged a firm called Burns and McDonnell that had rolled out the first piece of a study about what the water perfecting is for our community and what our future ability is with water rights that the city already has. Taking that to the next level, what is our next step? The city is sitting on some water rights that were granted to them from Carey Salt Industries many years ago. Those have been water rights that have not been used, mostly because of the condition of that water. There are a lot of studies going on right now, that is a large volume of water that has the potential to be used for a lot of industrial projects."

The BASE Grant funding includes the funds for a master plan and water line touring to the site. It is important to note that this all has to be water that can be used for any purpose, not just industrial.

"What does the City need to do next to be able to actually use them through the municipal system and convert them from industrial use?," Teufel said. "That's for the engineers to figure out. That's kind of what the city is doing right now and they are also working on some alignment studies about where could water lines go next, in order to serve larger industry in the future?"

The Board of County Commissioners meets Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Veterans Room at the Reno County Courthouse.

Next step in K-96 industrial park development on County agenda

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A law enforcement officer is recovering from injuries in an accident that occurred just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Wichita.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2020 Ford Explorer driven by Christopher Ruhlen, 34,Wichita, was southbound on Main Street passing through the intersection of Main and Kellogg Drive with emergency lights activated.

An eastbound 2018 Ford F150 driven by Ernest Ramirez, 60, Hutchinson,&nbsp; struck the SUV on the passenger side door and quarter panel.

EMS transported both drivers to a local hospital for treatment. Two juveniles were present in the vehicle; juvenile record protected data.

Wichita police released no additional details on the incident or why Ruhlen had emergency lights activated.

Kan. officer recovering after 2-vehicle crash during pursuit

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Creighton University economist Ernie Goss sees some softness in the economy in his Mid-America Business Conditions survey, but that doesn't mean that the Federal Reserve will try to stimulate the economy at this point.

"We've got a whole generation of Americans that have lived on low interest rates," Goss said. "Now, you've got higher interest rates on the long end, mortgage rates and also on the short end in terms of credit card balances. This is new to a lot of folks and it's going to continue. We're going to continue to see higher interest rates. Those who are betting that the Fed's going to reduce interest rates, I would say, you're betting too heavily. You probably need to pull that bet back."

The interest rate hit that current homeowners would take to move up is keeping many of them from making that move.

"That's one of the big factors slowing down the sale of existing houses," Goss said. "On the flip side, it has encouraged, or incentivized new home sales. New home sales have been doing very well there, even despite the higher mortgage rates. You're going to see an end to that. I think that will slow down in the weeks and months ahead. Existing home sales, you're probably going to see an increase there, as some Americans get new jobs, they are going to have to put their house on the market and buy a new house."

The struggles in the large banking sector are of more concern to Washington than the mergers of community banks in this part of the country, according to Goss.

"The Fed is committed to juicing the economy, whatever it takes," Goss said. "Like I said, they are not going to reduce interest rates on the short end. They are going to increase liquidity in case we have a downturn. They did that back when the Silicon Valley Bank failed and the other two banks, Signature Bank and First Republic. They juiced the economy back then. They will juice it again when they need to in the fall. It's not going to be a real hard, hard landing, it's going to be a bumpy landing."

Goss doesn't believe there will be a full-blown recession, but he does see a downturn on the horizon, just maybe not for long enough to technically qualify as a recession.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kansas State Fair General Manager Bryan Schulz said there will be a different way to save on rides on Monday of the Kansas State Fair this year.

"There's been confusion with the carnival, as far as how the ride tickets go," Schulz said. "This year, we've changed it up a little bit, with the help of the carnival. We're doing a $25 wristband that day. Normally we don't do a wristband on that day, but this year, the $25 all day long wristband will be in play instead of the one ticket one ride. It just makes things a lot easier and a lot cleaner."

Dillons is still sponsoring discounted admission for that day, though, and there are other discounted days, too.

"There are a lot of opportunities for you to get into the gate fairly inexpensively," Schulz said. "The first Friday, the Department of Aging and Disability Services, if you're 55 or older, it's $2 to get in. You have Dillons Dollar Day, it's $1 to get in or free with your Dillons Plus. Thursday is $4 after 4. Every day after 9 p.m., you can get in for $5. Then, if you are a PlayOn Member of the Kansas Lottery, on Chiefs Red Friday, you show them your card and you get in for $2."

Dillons Dollar Day rides to change this year

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The official budget hearing for Reno County for 2024 is part of their Wednesday meeting agenda.

The County is going to match the revenue neutral rate for this year, which means their budget authority will be $81,386,438 and the mill levy will be 35.764. That will produce $25,544,928 in ad valorem tax.

The county can, and likely will, spend less than that number, but that is the cap on spending for 2024. The current spending estimate for 2023 is $61,177,332.&nbsp;

The valuation for the county as of July 1 is $714,263,783.

Reno County 2024 budget hearing is Wednesday

NICKERSON, Kan. — The termination of a more than 35-year-old agreement between Nickerson EMS and Reno County is part of the consent agenda for the Board of County Commissioners at their meeting on Wednesday.

According to agenda documents, in 1987, the city of Nickerson and the Reno County Board of County Commissioners, acting as the governing body of Fire District 3, agreed to Nickerson EMS providing first response EMS services to Fire District 3. 

The agreement then said that when available, Nickerson EMS would respond in tandem with Reno County EMS to the territory in Fire District 3 to provide first response medical aid. Nickerson EMS is not a transporting EMS service; this means Reno County EMS is still required to respond to all medical emergencies. 

For each call Nickerson EMS responds to, the fire district is responsible to reimburse the Nickerson EMS $75.00.

In June, at the request of the Nickerson Mayor, Emergency Management, Reno County Fire District 3, the County Administrator, and County Counselor met and discussed the agreement. At that meeting, the Nickerson Mayor presented the termination of the agreement. 

When the agreement is terminated, Nickerson EMS would only respond inside the Nickerson city limits. With the limited response that Nickerson EMS provides, all in attendance were in agreement with the termination of the EMS agreement.

As it currently stands, Fire District 3 is the only district that pays for additional first response services. District 3 will continue to provide first response medical services on the most acute medical calls. 

Emergency Management, Fire District 3, and Reno County EMS believes there will be no impact to the medical services provided in Fire District 3.

The recommendation is to terminate the agreement effective September 1.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Laura Meyer-Dick spoke Thursday on the KWBW Morning Show during the Let's Be Social segment at Sleep Shoppe and Furniture Gallery about the plans for the Landmark building in downtown Hutchinson.

"My husband and I purchased it in March," Meyer-Dick said. "We have hired a developer, Justin Pregont, to help us redevelop it. He's done a project in Hays and Great Bend and now he's going to come to Hutchinson. We're going to turn it into 40 apartments, hopefully, if we can get the funding all lined up and commercial and retail on the main floor."

Getting grant funding to help will be key to making the project go.

"We're going to put it on the historic register," Meyer-Dick said. "Then we can use state and federal tax credits. We have applied for a grant from the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation, which we will find out about later this month for $1.7 million. That is some ARPA funds that are still left at the state of Kansas."

Meyer-Dick is really excited about the project, but her husband didn't see it at first.

"It's got to work on the spreadsheet," Meyer-Dick said. "It's got to be a lendable project, for me. I walked in and I was like, okay, I can see a vision. My husband is like, you have lost your mind. But, I have brought him along and now he's pretty excited about it and we're excited about what it can do for downtown. If we hadn't just built a new house, the views up there on the top floor looking down to the south are just amazing, I would just put a penthouse two bedroom apartment up there and we would downsize."

Because of previous work done inside the building, it is a fairly clean slate to work with. The apartments will mainly be one bedrooms and studios as currently envisioned.

Landmark getting ready for revitalization

WICHITA — While there is no deadline to apply for PACT Act-related benefits, there is urgency. Most Veterans and survivors who&nbsp;<a href="https://www.va.gov/resources/the-pact-act-and-your-va-benefits/" target="_blank">apply</a>&nbsp;for benefits or submit an “<a href="https://www.va.gov/resources/your-intent-to-file-a-va-claim/" target="_blank">Intent to File</a>” by August 9, if granted, will have their benefits backdated to August 10th of last year – the day President Biden signed the PACT Act into law.

According to VA’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.va.gov/vetdata/veteran_population.asp" target="_blank">National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics</a>, there are roughly 186,000 Veterans living in the state of Kansas. Currently, 52,080 Veterans are receiving service-connected compensation from the federal government, leaving 134,000 who may be eligible for similar benefits.

"Along with outreach assets from the Eastern Kansas VA Health Care System, the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), and our state-level partners from the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs (KCVAO), we have trekked across Kansas educating Veterans and survivors on potential eligibility for new health care and benefits,” said Michael Payne, CEO and Medical Center Director of Wichita’s Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center. “The time for Veterans to act is now, and we will not rest until every one of them gets what they’ve earned.”

The economic impact of service-connected compensation cannot be understated.

“Our statistics indicate yearly compensation brings an estimated $1.05 billion into the state of Kansas,” said Donna Meyer-Hickel, Director of VBA’s Wichita Regional Office.

VA encourages all eligible Veterans and survivors to apply for their earned PACT Act-related health care and benefits now.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The American Red Cross continues to see a concerning trend, as blood donations are being sent to hospitals faster than they are coming in.

 </figure>HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The American Red Cross continues to see a concerning trend, as blood donations are being sent to hospitals faster than they are coming in. The Red Cross has collected about 50,000 fewer blood donations than needed over the last two months.
