HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Salvation Army in Hutchinson has begun taking applications for holiday assistance as demand remains high for local families heading into the Thanksgiving and Christmas season.

Major Paul James said the organization helped more than 800 families and 1,100 children last year, and those numbers have not decreased. 

“Our numbers are pretty steady for what we’ve been having post-COVID, which isn’t good, the need is still high,” he said.

Applications for both Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance are open through Dec. 5, but families seeking Thanksgiving food gift cards must apply by Nov. 18. Residents can apply online at <a href="http://saangeltree.org">saangeltree.org</a> or through a link on the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/tsahutchinson/">Salvation Army’s Facebook page</a>. In-person application appointments will also be offered Nov. 4, 6, 11, 13 and 18 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hutchinson office.

James said economic pressures, including halted SNAP benefits and ongoing financial strain, are creating additional challenges for local families. 

“Last year, we helped 100 more children than the year before,” he said. “We don’t see that number going down. It’s definitely going to be harsher for families that are struggling right now.”

While applications continue, the annual Coats for Kids campaign, organized by Ineeda Cleaners, has wrapped up its collection and will distribute winter coats this Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. James said about 350 individuals received coats, hats, gloves and blankets last year, and help will still be available by appointment for those who miss the distribution. “People donate each year to help out in our community,” he said.

The Salvation Army is also preparing for additional food needs. Reno County EMS will hold a food drive Nov. 14–15 to help stock Christmas food baskets, and the local food bank is bracing for increased demand as more families turn to pantries and churches for assistance.

Project Concern, the annual fundraising effort with BW Radio, kicked off this week and will collect donations through 10 a.m. on Nov. 24. Last year, the campaign raised more than $11,500, providing help to 752 families and more than 2,600 people. James said this year’s distribution will be spread throughout the full day to avoid long lines and allow more flexibility for working families.

As the calendar turns to mid-November, the Salvation Army is also gearing up for its Red Kettle campaign. Some kettles will appear as early as Nov. 15, with the official kickoff scheduled for Third Thursday on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. The organization is hiring paid bell ringers and recruiting volunteers, who can sign up at <a href="http://registertoring.com">registertoring.com</a> or by calling 620-663-3353.

“We definitely need paid bell ringers, but we need volunteers more than ever,” James said. “On a given day, we need about 18 people.”

Christena and David Weber of Weber Auto Glass will serve as this year’s honorary Christmas chairs, helping promote the campaign and share their support for the Salvation Army’s mission.

Although the uncertainty of the season has created anxiety for some families, James said he remains confident in the community’s generosity. “It’s kind of a scary time with the uncertainty,” he said. “But we know it’ll work out, and this community always steps up.”

TOPEKA, Kan. — The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) has announced that the start date for the 2026 Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) season is currently pending, awaiting federal funding approval.

LIEAP is a federally funded initiative that provides a one-time annual benefit to help eligible households pay a portion of their home heating costs. The program assists thousands of low-income Kansans each year during the coldest months, easing the burden on families struggling to afford rising utility expenses.

DCF officials said they are ready to begin planning for the 2026 application period as soon as federal funding is confirmed. “We are awaiting updates from the federal government regarding the financial support required to move forward,” the agency stated. “Once approval is secured, we will notify the public about the application timeline.”

To qualify for LIEAP assistance, households must meet specific requirements:

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The railroad crossing at 17th Avenue has reopened following an overnight train derailment, though one northbound lane of K-61 remains closed, officials said.

The derailment occurred along the rail line between 17th and 56th avenues. Crews continue to work in the area to clear debris and make repairs. To accommodate heavy equipment, one lane of K-61 from 17th to 30th avenues is closed.

Drivers are urged to use caution, watch for crews and detours, and allow extra time for travel. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

KWBW launches Project Concern, Salvation Army accepting applications for assistance

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Food Bank of Reno County is urging residents to step up as federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are expected to be delayed in the coming weeks, threatening food security for thousands of local households.

Executive Director Angela Penner said the anticipated cutbacks could have an unprecedented impact on families and the food bank's ability to serve them.

“We are preparing for a level of need we’ve never seen before,” Penner said. “One in five children in Reno County already faces food insecurity, and many of their families depend on SNAP. If those benefits are interrupted, our food bank will be the first line of defense.”

About 4,800 people in Reno County rely on SNAP, totaling nearly 8% of the population. Those benefits add more than $800,000 to the local economy each month, according to state data. A halt to those payments could not only leave families hungry but also impact retailers and businesses that depend on grocery spending.

The food bank is asking for both food and financial donations to help meet the immediate and growing need. Non-perishable items can be dropped off at the food bank, located at 700 N. Walnut, or at collection barrels inside Dillons Marketplace on 30th Avenue.

While food goods are welcome, financial contributions can maximize the impact, Penner said. Through a partnership with the Food Bank of Kansas, the organization can purchase food at deeply discounted rates, stretching donor dollars further than retail purchases. Funds also allow the food bank to buy specific nutritious items needed for balanced diets and help manage storage space efficiently.

Beyond immediate needs, the Food Bank is continuing its “Nourishing Our Future” capital campaign to support long-term food security. The organization recently purchased a new facility at 921 E. 4th Ave., tripling its current space. The larger building will offer expanded cold storage, safer volunteer areas and allow multiple families to shop with dignity at the same time.

The food bank aims to raise $1 million for the renovation and expansion project. So far, $433,000 has been secured through grants and community support.

“Our current space was never designed to serve this many people,” Penner said. “This new facility will allow us to serve more families more efficiently and with greater dignity.”

Wheat Scoop: Kansas agriculture works better together

Just in time for the holiday season, Grand Staff Gift Boutique&nbsp;is celebrating a fresh start downtown after a decade in Buhler.

The boutique, which helps support the construction of a school in eSwatini, Africa, has moved into a new storefront at 408 N. Main Street. After taking possession of the building on October 10, staff and volunteers spent weeks transforming the space, removing a drop ceiling to reveal original tin tiles, pulling down paneling to expose antique brick, and making other renovations to bring out the building’s historic charm.

"We needed more foot traffic and sales to speed up the process of building our school in eSwatini,” the ministry shared, adding that the move to downtown Hutchinson offers a promising opportunity to expand their mission and reach new supporters.

Though renovations pushed their timeline to the last minute, the boutique is ready to welcome the public during a two-day Christmas Open House on Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8. Normal business hours will begin the following week on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

Donations of gently used items will also be accepted starting on November 11.

“We’re so excited about sharing our new space with our customers and the new friends we’ll make now,” the ministry said.

As Kansas and much of rural America struggles with growing healthcare shortages—particularly in primary care—Fort Hays State University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is preparing the next generation of clinical leaders to fill the gap.

Nationwide, nearly 70 percent of federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) are in rural regions, where only about 11 percent of the nation’s physicians practice, despite 20 percent of the population residing there. The American Association of Medical Colleges predicts a shortage of up to 86,000 physicians by 2036, with most continuing to concentrate in urban areas, further deepening the crisis for rural communities—especially in Kansas, where many counties are considered "healthcare deserts."

To combat this, FHSU's DNP program focuses on training family nurse practitioners equipped to deliver primary care in underserved rural communities. Students are prepared not just to provide care across the lifespan but also to take on roles in healthcare leadership, policy, and academia—positions often inaccessible to nurses trained at the master’s level.

“The DNP is really about taking patient care to the next level,” said Dr. Michelle Van Der Wege, DNP Program Coordinator at FHSU. “It prepares nurses not just for clinical practice, but for leadership roles that can drive meaningful change in health systems, especially in communities where access is limited.”

A key distinction of FHSU’s DNP program is the emphasis on rural healthcare experience. Each student completes at least 225 clinical hours in a Kansas community with fewer than 10,000 residents. This real-world immersion helps students understand the unique needs of underserved areas, from chronic disease management to overcoming cultural and social barriers to care.

The four-year program includes 900 clinical hours and an additional 600 hours dedicated to the DNP Project—an in-depth initiative that helps students apply evidence-based research to real-world practice, often resulting in measurable improvements to patient care.

Graduates like Dr. Michelle "Shelli" Dreiling, a 2023 alum now practicing at Hutchinson Clinic, credit the program’s strong rural focus for shaping their career paths. “I thought I knew what I wanted, but my rural clinical experience changed that,” Dreiling said. “Now I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be—and helping train the next wave of DNP nurses.”

The program graduates approximately a dozen students each year, many of whom remain in or return to rural Kansas communities to practice. Dr. Van Der Wege is one of them. A native of Russell, she started her healthcare career as an EMT and now splits her time between serving patients at a clinic in Larned and shaping future DNP graduates. She’s earned every nursing degree offered by FHSU—from associate's to doctorate.

“Healthcare is personal in rural communities,” she said. “If we don’t train people to serve those communities, they’ll continue to be left behind.”

WASHINGTON, DC — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says drugmakers have recalled more than a half-million bottles of the blood pressure medication prazosin hydrochloride over concerns it may include a cancer-causing chemical.&nbsp;

New Jersey-based Teva Pharmaceuticals USA and drugs distributor Amerisource Health Services issued voluntary nationwide recalls earlier this month of more than 580,000 bottles of various strengths of prazosine capsules, according to the FDA.&nbsp;

Doctors prescribe prazosin, which relaxes blood vessels, to help lower blood pressure. It also is sometimes prescribed for nightmares and other sleep disturbances caused by post-traumatic stress disorder.&nbsp;

The FDA said in enforcement orders posted online that it has given the affected lots of the drug a Class II risk classification because some of the recalled medication may have nitrosamine impurities that are considered potentially cancer causing.&nbsp;

According to the FDA, N-nitrosamine impurities are a class of potentially cancer-causing chemicals that can form during manufacture or storage of a drug.&nbsp;

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Daylight Saving Time officially comes to an end this Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 a.m., when clocks are set back one hour, giving Kansans an extra hour of sleep — and a timely reminder to perform important home safety checks.

As residents “fall back” and reset their clocks, fire officials urge everyone to use the opportunity to also replace the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. It’s a simple step that could save lives.

Statistics show that working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire by half. Changing batteries at the same time you reset your clocks is an easy way to create a life-saving habit.

The National Fire Protection Association recommends having at least one smoke alarm on every floor of your home, including inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas. Carbon monoxide detectors are equally critical, especially as colder weather brings increased use of fuel-burning appliances.

Despite laws in all 50 states requiring drivers to slow down or move over for stopped emergency and service vehicles, roadside deaths among responders continue to rise, according to new data from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

The Emergency Responder Safety Institute reports that 46 police officers, firefighters, EMTs and tow truck operators were killed last year while assisting others on the roadside. AAA officials say that confusion about “Slow Down, Move Over” laws — and inconsistent enforcement — continue to endanger lives.

“For more than 20 years, AAA has championed ‘Slow Down, Move Over’ laws in every state, yet we are still losing far too many roadside heroes in the line of duty,” said Gene Boehm, president and CEO of AAA National. “It’s clear that awareness alone isn’t enough. Drivers need to understand what these laws require and why they matter.”

In a forthcoming national survey, AAA found that while two-thirds of drivers say they’ve heard of the laws, many couldn’t explain what they entail or whether their state has one. When researchers reviewed footage of drivers passing roadside incidents, only 64% slowed down or changed lanes. The remaining 36% did neither.

Tow truck operators face the greatest risk, the study found. Only 58% of drivers slowed down or moved over when tow trucks were present, compared to 66% when passing police vehicles.

“Slow Down, Move Over laws exist to protect roadside heroes, first responders, and the stranded motorists they serve,” said Dr. David Yang, president and executive director of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. “However, as these statistics demonstrate, drivers do not always follow the law — too often resulting in preventable tragedies.”

AAA is urging policymakers and law enforcement to strengthen and align “Slow Down, Move Over” laws nationwide. Recommendations include clarifying what “slow down” means, raising public awareness through emotionally resonant campaigns, and increasing enforcement visibility.

In Kansas, the state’s Move Over law requires motorists to reduce speed and, when safe, move over one lane for emergency responders, tow truck operators, road maintenance crews and other roadside workers.

During the 2025 legislative session, AAA Kansas successfully advocated for Senate Bill 8, expanding the law to include all stopped or disabled vehicles displaying hazard lights or warning signs such as cones or reflective triangles. Governor Laura Kelly signed the measure into law, effective July 1.

“Every responder working on the roadside deserves to make it home safely,” said AAA Director of Traffic Safety Advocacy and Research Jake Nelson. “We need clear, consistent laws, visible enforcement, and education that resonates with drivers. When everyone understands what ‘slow down, move over’ really means, we can make our roads safer for those who protect us every day.”

 </figure>AAA KANSASDespite laws in all 50 states requiring drivers to slow down or move over for stopped emergency and service vehicles, roadside deaths among responders continue to rise, according to new data from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.The Emergency Responder Safety Institute reports that 46 police officers, firefighters, EMTs and tow truck operators were killed last year while assisting others on the roadside. AAA officials say that confusion about “Slow Down, Move Over” laws — and inconsistent enforcement — continue to endanger lives.“For more than 20 years, AAA has championed ‘Slow Down, Move Over’ laws in every state, yet we are still losing far too many roadside heroes in the line of duty,” said Gene Boehm, president and CEO of AAA National. “It’s clear that awareness alone isn’t enough. Drivers need to understand what these laws require and why they matter.”In a forthcoming national survey, AAA found that while two-thirds of drivers say they’ve heard of the laws, many couldn’t explain what they entail or whether their state has one. When researchers reviewed footage of drivers passing roadside incidents, only 64% slowed down or changed lanes. The remaining 36% did neither.Tow truck operators face the greatest risk, the study found. Only 58% of drivers slowed down or moved over when tow trucks were present, compared to 66% when passing police vehicles.“Slow Down, Move Over laws exist to protect roadside heroes, first responders, and the stranded motorists they serve,” said Dr. David Yang, president and executive director of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. “However, as these statistics demonstrate, drivers do not always follow the law — too often resulting in preventable tragedies.”AAA is urging policymakers and law enforcement to strengthen and align “Slow Down, Move Over” laws nationwide. Recommendations include clarifying what “slow down” means, raising public awareness through emotionally resonant campaigns, and increasing enforcement visibility.In Kansas, the state’s Move Over law requires motorists to reduce speed and, when safe, move over one lane for emergency responders, tow truck operators, road maintenance crews and other roadside workers.During the 2025 legislative session, AAA Kansas successfully advocated for Senate Bill 8, expanding the law to include all stopped or disabled vehicles displaying hazard lights or warning signs such as cones or reflective triangles. Governor Laura Kelly signed the measure into law, effective July 1.“Every responder working on the roadside deserves to make it home safely,” said AAA Director of Traffic Safety Advocacy and Research Jake Nelson. “We need clear, consistent laws, visible enforcement, and education that resonates with drivers. HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Health Department is reporting a noticeable increase in cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth (HFM) disease across the county, particularly among young children.

Though typically mild, HFM is a highly contagious illness that can affect people of all ages. It often begins with a fever followed by a rash and painful sores on the hands, feet, and inside the mouth. Symptoms usually last between 7 and 10 days.

While Hand, Foot, and Mouth is not a reportable disease, local healthcare providers, schools, and residents have alerted county health officials to a recent uptick. The virus spreads primarily through respiratory droplets from coughing, sneezing, talking, and contact with blister fluid.

To help prevent infection, health officials recommend:

“We’re encouraging parents to keep their children home from school or daycare while they’re symptomatic, even though exclusion is not required,” the department said in a statement.

Residents with concerns are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider or reach out to the Reno County Health Department’s Epidemiology Department at 620-694-2900.

Reno County Health Department warns of rise in hand, foot, and mouth cases

HARVEY COUNTY —The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office has received confirmation as to the identity of human remains found in southeastern Harvey County on Oct. 1, according to a media release.

The individual was identified as Robert F. Williams, 35, of Wichita.

Williams’ identity was confirmed through DNA testing with living relatives conducted by the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center. The Ninth District Coroner’s Office assisted in the investigation.

Human remains later attributed to Williams were discovered in a hay field by a farmer in the 3000 block of South Hillside Road on Oct. 1. Information identifying Williams was not found at the scene.

The farmstead is southeast of Newton. It is unknown why Williams was in the area where he was found. It is suspected he died in the summer. No foul play is suspected in Williams’ death. No further investigation is anticipated.

Sheriff confirms identity of body found in rural Kan. hay field

BrightHouse is once again inviting the community to lend a hand — and help fill a school bus — during its annual “Stuff the Bus” donation drive on Saturday, Nov. 1.

The drive, supported by Eagle Media, Bretz Injury Law, Allen Samuels Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Friendly Bingo, JACAM Catalyst, Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q, and ProValue Insurance. the drive uses a full-size school bus provided by Nickerson/South Hutchinson USD 309. 

The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Dillons Marketplace on 3200 Plaza East Drive where BrightHouse staff and volunteers will be collecting food, household, and personal care items to stock the organization’s pantry. Donations directly benefit BrightHouse’s emergency shelter and Jean’s House, as well as support groups held throughout the year.

“Stuff the Bus is really important to us because it helps keep our pantry full for both our emergency shelter and Jean’s House,” said Sue Wray of BrightHouse. “It also lets us provide snacks and comfort items for support groups, which helps people open up and feel at ease when talking about difficult issues.”

Once filled, all donations are taken to the BrightHouse shelter, where they typically last through most of the following year.

Items most needed include shelf-stable foods like boxed meals, peanut butter, coffee, tea, powdered creamer, and oatmeal, along with cleaning supplies, paper products, and new pillows for shelter guests. Individually wrapped snacks — such as cookies, chips, or granola bars — are especially helpful for children’s programs.

Gift cards, cash, and Dillons “Good as Gold” cards are also welcome.

“Budgets are tight for everyone right now, and we’re no different,” Wray said. “The community’s support really stretches our resources and helps us serve families all year long.”

'Stuff the Bus' for Bright House to be held on Saturday

Marc Jacobs:&nbsp;We finish our interviews with the city council candidates. With Carlton Devaul, good afternoon. Good morning.&nbsp;

Carlton "Duke" Devaul:&nbsp;Yes, good morning to you &nbsp;

Marc Jacobs:&nbsp;You’re running for the at large position. Tell everybody a little bit about yourself.&nbsp;

Carlton "Duke" Devaul:&nbsp;I've been here for 50 years. I came here in 76 from upstate New York, the Finger Lakes region, to be more exact, and I worked for a while. I just worked whatever job I get. And I got a job at Consolidated, and worked there for 25 years. I got out before it closed, and I went to Lowe's, and then I went on to the high school as head custodian, and now I'm retired, and I just woke up one morning and thought, well, it'd be fun to run for city council. It didn't actually happen that way, but it sounds like a good story, but it not much thought went into it. I just was impulsive and did it.&nbsp;

Marc Jacobs:&nbsp;We'll get things started off here, talking a little bit about growth and economic development. How should the city balance attracting new industries, say, like renewable energy or other manufacturing agencies, while also supporting the local small businesses and the downtown revitalization.&nbsp;

Carlton "Duke" Devaul:&nbsp;I think we need to do a better job at selling our city. And I don't know what the city council is doing right now. I'm not privity of that, and a lot of that is, you're under a you cannot speak about it, or they'll just pull out and but we have highways going through here, and yes, it's not like McPherson or Salina, but we got highways, we got rail service, and we have a small airport here, which really is beneficial to us. And we just need to go out there maybe reevaluate how we approach different biz businesses, I think to get more business in here, we need to get some stores going. If a young family moves, moves to Hutch, or we're planning on to move and they look around at the shopping, the wife would be the one to look around for the shopping and schools and shopping after Kohl's and Walmart is almost nonexistent. And people say, well, Wichita is only 35 miles away. It's still 35 miles away and but yeah, and the second part of that question was supporting small local businesses? Oh, yeah, I think downtown is thriving. I don't eat it restaurants unless they're locally owned. I mean, I have my favorites, but it's one of these things that I'm a firm, firm believer, and you get a lot better food by going to a local and supporting your locals. If you walk into a shop in downtown, the shops I've been into people are more than&nbsp;friendly. They come out and ask you what you're looking for and what you need. So yes, downtown is thriving. Third Thursday's helps out get people down there to look, look around, see what we have.&nbsp;

Marc Jacobs:&nbsp;This one kind of goes hand in hand with economic development, because if you're attracting businesses, the people have to have a place to stay. So, what specific steps would you like to address to help Hutchinson's housing shortage, particularly affordable housing and workforce housing, and how should the city partner with developers and say, nonprofits, to achieve the goal of getting that housing.&nbsp;

Carlton "Duke" Devaul:&nbsp;I'm a big proponent of tiny house houses. You drive around the city, and I don't know what lots the city actually owns or what they own, but we could be putting up house housing like that, and people are not starting families young like our generation did, and they need an affordable place to live, and they don't want a big space because they're never at home. Anyways. So. They just want a space, and it would be a good thing for even a working-class man just starting out, it's a small investment. I think the housing for middle income is it goes from $100,000 house houses to and it jumps up to $250 and $300,000 homes. And we need to maybe look at something in between. But new housing costs a lot of money to build. It really does. I don't know what we can do to help the contractors. They've done quite a bit for Jim Strawn up on 43rd Street and Plum area. But we do have another big proponent of mine is I want to see people being able to stay in their homes. And we have places that come in, like interfaith housing, few other places that want to help people out and keep them in their homes. And I think it's very important to do that. It's easier to do that than to put somebody in a nursing home, and it just puts a bigger burden on the whole thing. So we need to really look at things like that. All right, we&nbsp;

Marc Jacobs:&nbsp;Duke Hutchinson faces a lot of aging infrastructure, and with the limited budgets, how do you prior prioritize spending on roads and public water systems and public safety and other core services? &nbsp;

But they showed us pipes from the water lines and wastewater things like that. And we have water lines on the south end of town that are 110 years old. I think that's the number they gave out. It was like the 1800s when they were put in. So yes, and they're working on that, and I think that's going to be, I think they have a three-year plan set up for that, and it's something that we are going to have to be patient, because they will be tearing up streets and redoing that. And as far as streets and roads, it is a problem. My big thing is potholes, and the side streets are all pretty good shape. Yes, we still have some brick roads here in town, and I think we may even have a couple dirt streets yet, I'm not sure, but, and then again, that's also on that was brought up, and that's on an eight-year rotation. I believe the city has that on first streets, but if you have an issue, you can call up and get a fix. It's all about getting involved with people that do the work and as far as police, firemen, EMS services like that, yes, we need them. We need them, people that come out at night for a broken water main. And so we need to support those people. All right, so&nbsp;Marc Jacobs:&nbsp;This seems to have been a little bit of a sticking point from and everybody has commented on this. What should, what role should the city play in maintaining in like parks and public spaces, and how could Hutchinson make these and then these items better accessible for Hutchinson residents.&nbsp;Carlton "Duke" Devaul:&nbsp;The city, to me, is a vibrant community. We have, we have like Hutch rec does a fantastic job at running a lot of events. City. And does their share. We have great venues at the fox and convention hall. I think we need to utilize them more. I believe they're looking for somebody to manage the memorial hall to help get events in here. We just need to fill these spaces more. And we even have bit bigger venues in that, like we have the sports arena, we could have a pretty nice concert up there, a big one, and maybe attract something, you know, just any little thing, and I think the arts are flourishing in this town, and the city does need to support the arts. And I think the arts support themselves too, and a lot of these places do, and we've had things going on right now with parks and trails, they are wanting to do improvements there.&nbsp;Marc Jacobs:&nbsp;All right, sir, we’ve got about a minute left. Is there anything that you want to add to what you have said today?&nbsp;Carlton "Duke" Devaul:&nbsp;Well, first, I like to see more people involved in city, in the city biz, business itself, and attend city council meetings, talk to your representatives, get out and vote. The projection I heard yesterday was a figure, 17-percent of the registered voters will vote. And we have City Council. We also have school board, and most important, the big issue this year is the school bond issue. So I would have hoped we would have had more than 17% out. And I would love to see all the different entities in Hutchinson all try to get along and share their spaces and cooperate, instead of everybody wanting to be the chief. And we just need to all get along.&nbsp;Marc Jacobs:&nbsp;All right. We have been talking with Duke Devaul this morning, he is running for the at large position.
