HUTCHINSON, Kan. —&nbsp;Hutchinson Recreation Commission announced on March 29, they have hired Jacelyn Chambers as the new Arts &amp; Culture Coordinator. Chambers will begin this role on the Hutch Rec leadership team on April 17.

At Hutch Rec, Chambers will be responsible in organizing and managing arts, humanities, and cultural programs and events for Hutchinson and Reno County residents, as well as overseeing the Foxtrot Studio operations and assisting in community events, including Third Thursday.

“I look forward to meeting new creative people and continuing to work with many groups in our community to integrate the arts into our educational and recreational activities in engaging and invigorating ways,” Chambers said. “I want to encourage and fuel peoples’ fiery passions in our community, as well as help connect people to the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to succeed in their artistic pursuits.”

Chambers comes to Hutch Rec after working at the Hutchinson Art Center for the past eight years, including her most recent role there as executive director. She is a Hutchinson native and in 2017 graduated from Hutchinson Community College with an associate’s degree in art. 

As a student, Chambers said she “had the privilege of learning from an inspiring group of artists, arts advocates, and knowledgeable community ambassadors who helped me develop a strong passion for contributing to my local community as much as possible.”

When she is not working on an artistic passion project, Chambers can be found playing tabletop games, video games, and board games with friends and family, as well as experimenting with recipes or researching interior design tips and tricks for her home. She resides in Hutchinson with her partner and five rescue cats.

Jacelyn Chambers new Hutch Rec Arts & Culture Coordinator

Mary Lois Fletchall, 98, died peacefully March 27, 2023, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born May 2, 1924, in Jackson County, Kansas, to Arthur and Effie (Kroth) Venneberg.

Mary graduated from Havensville High School, Havensville, KS, and attended Strickler Business College in Topeka.&nbsp; She worked three years at Southwestern Bell Telephone, and after moving to Hutchinson, Mary taught at Hook Playschool for 13 years.&nbsp; She enjoyed quilting, winning many ribbons at the Kansas State Fair.&nbsp; Mary was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, taught Sunday school, was a Stephen Minister, and helped make church banners.&nbsp; She was a devoted mother and grandmother and looked forward to phone calls and visits from her family.

On May 31, 1946, Mary married Glenn Lloyd Fletchall.&nbsp; They lived in Sabetha, Kansas for 10 years, before moving to Hutchinson in 1957.&nbsp; Glenn died June 19, 2005, after they shared 59 years of marriage.

Mary is survived by:&nbsp; daughter, Janie Peterson of Hutchinson; sons, Mark Fletchall (Lynné) of Wichita, Randy Fletchall (Vickie) of Scottsdale, AZ, Mike Fletchall (Brenda) of Roseville, MN, and Craig Fletchall (Patty) of Great Bend; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren;

Mary was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; five brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

MANHATTAN – All-American&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/saffell_blake_2ov2">Blake Saffell</a>&nbsp;carded a season-best 68 on Tuesday to earn a five-stroke victory in Jayhawk No. 1, the KJCCC's first of three league-designated tournaments.

Saffell's individual victory paced the No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team to a tie with No. 5 Dodge City for the team championship on Tuesday at Colbert Hills Country Club.

The Blue Dragons had a slim two-stroke lead over Dodge City after 36 holes. The Conquistadors shot 290 on Tuesday to the Blue Dragons' 292. The teams tied for the tournament title with 54-hole totals of one-over par 865.

Each team receives 9.5 points in the season team standings. Garden City was third at 921. Barton and Kansas City was tied for fourth at 936.

In addition to Saffell's 68 in the final round, the Blue Dragons counted scores of 73 by&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/anderson_marco_z2pq">Marco Anderson</a>, 75 by&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/galvin_louis_mscz">Louis Galvin</a>&nbsp;and 76 by&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/lindstrom_alex_7wqw">Alex Lindstrom</a>.

Saffell entered the final round tied for second just one stroke out of the lead. With five birdies and just one bogey, Saffell tied for the low round of the tournament with a 4-under-par round of 68

Saffell won his first collegiate tournament and posted his ninth Top 10 career finish at 6-under-par 210. He also takes the Jayhawk Conference individual lead with 10 points.

Two other Blue Dragons finished in the Top 10 on Tuesday as Lindstrom and Galvin tied for sixth at 2-over 218.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/clemons_dominic_18vf">Dominic Clemons</a>&nbsp;tied for 11th after a final-round 77 to close at 223. Anderson tied for 14th at 226.

⛳ KJCCC Golf: Saffell wins Jayhawk; Blue Dragons-Conqs tie for team title

For the fourth consecutive ranking period, the Hutchinson Community College softball team has moved up in the NJCAA Division I Softball Rankings.

The Blue Dragons (27-4) jumped up two spots to No. 13 in the latest rankings released on Monday. That is the highest ranking this season and the highest Division I Ranking since being ranked No. 7 at the end of the 1988 season.

The Blue Dragons extended their winning streak to 12 games with a 4-0 week with four run-rule victories. The Blue Dragons rolled by Seward County 28-2 and 13-5 last Wednesday in Liberal. The Dragons&nbsp;&nbsp;then downed Pratt 14-0 and 12-1 on Saturday in Pratt.

After Tuesday’s game at Neosho County were cancelled, the Blue Dragons have just one doubleheader scheduled this weekend, which comes on Saturday at Colby.

The Blue Dragons continue to be the highest ranked Jayhawk Conference team this week. Butler is ranked No. 18 this week. Former opponent Weatherford is ranked 20th. Murray State continues to be the No. 1 team in NJCAA Division II.

HutchCC Sports InformationFor the fourth consecutive ranking period, the Hutchinson Community College softball team has moved up in the NJCAA Division I Softball Rankings.The Blue Dragons (27-4) jumped up two spots to No. 13 in the latest rankings released on Monday. That is the highest ranking this season and the highest Division I Ranking since being ranked No. 7 at the end of the 1988 season.The Blue Dragons extended their winning streak to 12 games with a 4-0 week with four run-rule victories. The Blue Dragons rolled by Seward County 28-2 and 13-5 last Wednesday in Liberal. The Dragons&nbsp;&nbsp;then downed Pratt 14-0 and 12-1 on Saturday in Pratt.After Tuesday’s game at Neosho County were cancelled, the Blue Dragons have just one doubleheader scheduled this weekend, which comes on Saturday at Colby.The Blue Dragons continue to be the highest ranked Jayhawk Conference team this week. MANHATTAN – With 10 of the Top 11 individual players in the individual standings either from Hutchinson or Dodge City, the No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons and No. 5 ranked Conquistadors are locked in a tight battle for the first Jayhawk Conference tournament title of the 2023 spring season after 36 holes on Monday.

The Hutchinson Community College men's golf team leads Dodge City by two strokes after two round of Jayhawk No. 1, the first of three league-designated tournament. Hutchinson leads the tournament at Colbert Hills with a 3-under-par team score of 573. Dodge City is at 1-over 575. Garden City is third at 616.

The final round of the 54-hole events begins with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Colbert Hills.

Led by sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/saffell_blake_2ov2">Blake Saffell</a>'s 2-under 70, the Blue Dragons shot even par 288 in the morning round and led Dodge City by one stroke. The Dragons counted scored in the first round of 71 by&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/lindstrom_alex_7wqw">Alex Lindstrom</a>, 73 by&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/clemons_dominic_18vf">Dominic Clemons</a>&nbsp;and 73 from Louis Gavin.

Galvin paced the Blue Dragons in the afternoon round with a season-best round of 69 and Lindstrom shot a second-straight round of 71 as Hutchinson shout a 3-under 285. Dodge City shot 286. Saffell carded a 72 in the second round and Clemons shot a second-straight 73 to count toward the team score.

Saffell and Lindstrom lead the Dragons individually with both players in a four-way tie for second at 2-under 142.

Galvin is sixth at 1-under 143. Clemons is eighth at 2-over 146.

HutchCC to host annual career fair

Danae Lanette Osborn, 41, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 23, 2023, surrounded by her family and friends at Pleasant View Home in Inman. She courageously and graciously fought cancer since 2015.

Danae was born July 17, 1981, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Loren and Cheryl (Suderman) Wiens. She grew up with one older brother, Brett Wiens, and one younger sister, Tara (Wiens) Oswald. Danae loved children which led to babysitting jobs. By second grade, without wavering, she decided to become an elementary teacher. Danae graduated from Buhler High School in 2000 and received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Bethel College in Newton in 2004. Danae taught four years as a first-grade teacher at Hesston Elementary.

On June 17, 2006, Danae was united in marriage to Justin Osborn at Bethel Mennonite Church in Inman, KS, They met at a mutual friend’s wedding. They were married for 16 years. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Cade, Cole, Corynn, and Cambry. Danae enjoyed the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom. When their oldest reached school age, she continued her passion of teaching by homeschooling. She said, ‘I gave up a great job for the best job - a teacher AND a mom all in one.’ As the kids grew older, it was important to Danae that they learned not only academics but faith and character as well. She really enjoyed attending her kids’ activities. Even when her health was compromised, she was determined to attend every event even when it meant going in a wheelchair.

Danae’s faith and involvement in their church was important to her. She accepted Christ when she was six years old with Sarah Thiessen’s guidance at Wednesday night church. Danae, along with her husband Justin, served as youth sponsors for many years at Bethel Mennonite Church. They currently attend Journey Mennonite in South Hutchinson.

Danae will be remembered and cherished for so many wonderful attributes. Danae loved others well and put others’ needs before her own. She lived her life with so much gratitude. Her heart and home were always open to those around her, and she always looked for the best in others. Danae is known for her faithfulness, gentle spirit, genuine personality, compassionate heart, dependability, and perseverance.

Survivors include: her husband Justin; four children Cade, Cole, Corynn, and Cambry, of the home; mother, Cheryl Friesen, and spouse Raymond Friesen, Inman; brother, Brett (Jill) Wiens, McPherson; sister, Tara (Nate) Oswald, Buhler; mother and father-in-law, Pam and Steve Osborn, Harrisonville, MO; brother-in-law, Joel Osborn, Lee’s Summit, MO; grandmother, Mildred Leeper, Buhler; nephews Josiah Osborn, Levi Osborn; nieces McKenzie Osborn, Presley Osborn, Tryn Oswald, Bree Oswald; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Loren Wiens; grandparents Milton and Erma Jane (Regehr) Wiens, and Richard Suderman.

The family will receive family and friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Inman Funeral Home, 312 E Center St, Inman. The Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Journey Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson. Services will be live streamed on Inman Funeral Home’s Facebook page.

Chamber CEO Debra Teufel said this is due to requests from members who are interested in reaching out to the recently laid off workers in the community.&nbsp; Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and Sonoco Hutchinson Paper Mill both had recent and major layoffs that have included dozens of community members. &nbsp;

"We thought, what could we do to be a direct conduit for our businesses to reach out to those folks?" Teufel said. "We have space in the Chamber. We have a couple different board meeting spaces that we can break up in different ways. A couple of our members had asked if they could use our spaces, especially if they are, you know, out in Haven, or out in one of the outlying communities, they wanted to be able to, you know, have a place right here in Hutchinson that they could do interviews. Based on that request, we said, why don't we open this up to all of our members?

If a&nbsp;company is interested in holding on-site interviews at the Chamber or the&nbsp;adjacent Boys &amp; Girls Club conference room, they&nbsp;may sign up by contacting the Chamber at (620) 662-3391. Chamber hiring event enters second week

Shirley Ann Wenner, 74, died March 24, 2023, at Pleasant Hills Assisted Living. She was born July1, 1948, in Caldwell, to Everett and Dora Lacey.

Shirley graduated from Caldwell High School in 1966, and went on to attend Salt City Business College. She worked as an administrative assistant for USD 308 for 29 years. Shirley enjoyed cooking and baking, as well as crochet. More than anything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley was also a member of CrossPoint Church.

On April 3, 1976, she married James G. Wenner, in Hutchinson. They shared 46 years together.

Shirley is survived by: her husband, James Wenner, Hutchinson; son, Shawn Wenner, Hutchinson; granddaughters, Kristen Weber (Matt), Lyons, Jessica Carpenter (Zach), McPherson; great-grandsons, Brooks Weber, Rowan Carpenter, Wells Carpenter, Luke Weber; and her siblings, Karen Baker (Robert), Hutchinson, Larry Lacey (Becky), Plainville.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; siblings, Robert Lacey (Sharon), Herbert Lacey (Sharon), Al Lacey (Cheryl), and Don Lacey (Janice).

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary, burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Indian Hills scored the first bucket of the game at the 19:19 mark of the first half and held the lead for the next 29:02 of the contest when the Raiders knotted the game at 54-all with 11:17 to play in the contest. The Warriors regained the lead and built its advantage to as many as eight over the next six minutes before the Raiders stormed back to take its first lead of the night at 69-68 with 3:11 to play.

🏀 Updated NJCAA Men's Tournament schedule

HUTCHINSON, Kan.— Tallahassee Community College Men's Basketball's magical run in the NJCAA Tournament will continue into the semifinal round after the Eagles defeated Dodge City Community College 75-69. TCC takes on John A. Logan in the semifinals on Friday at 5:00 PM CDT, with a spot in the National Championship Game on the line. The other semifinal features Panhandle foe Northwest Florida State and Indian Hills, who entered the tournament as the #7 and #6 seed, respectively.&nbsp;

The Eagles trailed for the entirety of the first half. Within the first minute, the Conquistadors had knocked down their first three. Later in the first half, TCC's starting point guard&nbsp;<a href="https://tcceagles.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/bios/cathey_isaiah_ck5m">Isaiah Cathey</a>&nbsp;went down with an elbow injury after a scrap for a loose ball. He did not return.&nbsp;

Dodge City was able to space the floor and knock down shots early on, and then stymy TCC's offensive efforts on the other end. They led by four at the end of the first half. TCC has trailed in all three NJCAA Tournament games going into the break.&nbsp;

The Eagles shot just 36.7% from the field in the first half and went 2-for-10 on three-point attempts. Although they never found a rhythm from deep, they were able to generate offense in the paint in the second half.&nbsp;<a href="https://tcceagles.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/bios/davis_malachi_k1vg">Malachi Davis</a>&nbsp;(G, Soph.) scored 17 points in the second half, and only had two three-point attempts.

Davis, who joined the Eagles' starting lineup at this tournament after spending most of the season as the sixth man, had another historic postseason game. Through three games in the tournament, he's averaging 37.3 points. He is 47 points shy of the all-time scoring record in the NJCAA Tournament.&nbsp;

The TCC record for most points in a postseason game was 32 going into this season, set by Bootsy Thornton. Through six postseason games, Davis has topped that number on three occasions.&nbsp;

<a href="https://tcceagles.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/bios/okeke_okechukwu_yggy">Okechukwu Okeke</a>&nbsp;(F/C, Soph.) played just 14 minutes in Thursday's contest, but he made the most of them. He finished with 11 points, shooting 5-for-6 from the field. He also recorded two blocks. A crucial play came with 10:27 left in the second half, when&nbsp;<a href="https://tcceagles.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/bios/gaines_kenney_u3ne">Kenney Gaines</a>&nbsp;(G, Soph.) grabbed a defensive rebound and quickly brought it up the floor to find Okeke for a thunderous alley-oop dunk. Okeke was fouled on the play and converted from the free throw line to make it a one possession game with Dodge City leading 52-49.&nbsp;

The two teams went back and forth for the final 10 minutes, but it was another strong finish by TCC, led in large part by Davis's offensive efforts. His layup with 22 seconds left extended the Eagles' lead to four and brought his scoring total for the day to 33.&nbsp;

Another Eagles' guard didn't have a great shooting night, but his contributions were felt on both ends of the floor.&nbsp;<a href="https://tcceagles.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/bios/florence_ja-quavian_5bof">Ja'Quavian Florence</a>&nbsp;(G, Soph.) finished 1-for-11 shooting, but did end up with seven points. He knocked down all five of his free throw attempts. But where Florence's impact was felt most was on the defensive end. He brought in nine rebounds, eight of which were defensive, and recorded two steals and a block.&nbsp;

TCC takes on John A. Logan in the semifinals on Friday at 5:00 PM CDT, with a spot in the National Championship Game on the line. The other semifinal features Panhandle foe Northwest Florida State and Indian Hills, who entered the tournament as the #7 and #6 seed, respectively.&nbsp;The Eagles trailed for the entirety of the first half. Within the first minute, the Conquistadors had knocked down their first three. Later in the first half, TCC's starting point guard&nbsp;<a href="https://tcceagles.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/bios/cathey_isaiah_ck5m">Isaiah Cathey</a>&nbsp;went down with an elbow injury after a scrap for a loose ball. He did not return.&nbsp;Dodge City was able to space the floor and knock down shots early on, and then stymy TCC's offensive efforts on the other end. They led by four at the end of the first half. TCC has trailed in all three NJCAA Tournament games going into the break.&nbsp;The Eagles shot just 36.7% from the field in the first half and went 2-for-10 on three-point attempts. Although they never found a rhythm from deep, they were able to generate offense in the paint in the second half.&nbsp;<a href="https://tcceagles.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/bios/davis_malachi_k1vg">Malachi Davis</a>&nbsp;(G, Soph.) scored 17 points in the second half, and only had two three-point attempts.Davis, who joined the Eagles' starting lineup at this tournament after spending most of the season as the sixth man, had another historic postseason game. Through three games in the tournament, he's averaging 37.3 points. He is 47 points shy of the all-time scoring record in the NJCAA Tournament.&nbsp;The TCC record for most points in a postseason game was 32 going into this season, set by Bootsy Thornton. HUTCHINSON, KS— In one of the most historic comebacks in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Basketball National Tournament history, the Indian Hills Men's Basketball squad erased a 15-point deficit to defeat Odessa College (TX) 79-75 and advance to the final four.

Indian Hills advances to the semifinal round for the first time since 2014 where the Warriors placed second overall. The sixth-seeded Warriors will take on a familiar opponent in No.7 seed Northwest Florida State College who knocked off No. 15 seed Vincennes University (IN) on Friday.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://indianhills.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/bios/kalambay_enoch_4rom">Enoch Kalambay</a>&nbsp;(Gatineau, Canada/Orangeville Prep) served as the offensive catalyst for the Warriors with a career-high 31 points, including 18 in the second half and overtime. Indian Hills saw key performances from reserves&nbsp;<a href="https://indianhills.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/bios/ogom_rj_tmmz">RJ Ogom</a>&nbsp;(Chicago, IL/Fort Wayne) who poured in 12 points and&nbsp;<a href="https://indianhills.prestosports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/bios/hall_davontae_hrr8">Davontae Hall</a>&nbsp;(Chicago, IL/Hyde Park) who added five points and seven rebounds.

The Warriors, who trailed for a majority of the game, faced a 61-46 deficit with 5:53 remaining in the contest. Facing elimination from the tournament, the Warrior offense sparked a 14-0 run while holding the Wranglers scoreless for the next 4:52 to pull within one, 61-60. Odessa maintained the lead until a Kalambay dunk with 11 seconds to go in regulation tied the game at 66-all. A desperation three for the Wranglers at the buzzer fell short to force overtime.

A defensive battle ensued in a scoreless 2:15 to open overtime, but the surging Warriors struck first in the extra session as Ogom buried a three for a 69-66 edge. Hall and Ogom added a pair of buckets to offset a Wrangler three as the Warriors extended the advantage to 73-68. Odessa pulled within three, but the Warriors went 6-6 at the free throw line over the final 27 seconds to seal the remarkable comeback victory.

Kalambay finished the contest 11-17 from the floor, including 5-7 from three-point range and 4-5 at the charity stripe. The sophomore added six rebounds and three assists in the win.

Kalambay's 31 points in a national tournament game are the most for an Indian Hills player since Dwight Hardy scored 36 in the 2008 national tournament against Northeastern Oklahoma A&amp;M College. In three career national tournament games, Kalambay is averaging 20.3 points per game while shooting 57.5 percent from the floor.

Hall, who recorded just 30 minutes of court action over the team's last three games, provided 31 minutes on Thursday night in one of the biggest performances of the freshman's collegiate career. Hall tallied two late-game offensive rebounds that led to five second-chance points. The guard added three assists and a steal to fill the stat sheet.

Ogom, who missed the previous three games before the national tournament due to an injury, returned Wednesday night vs. Ranger but made his biggest impact against Odessa Thursday night with five crucial points in overtime.

Hall, Ogom, and Kalambay combined to score all 13 points for the Warriors in the extra session to carry Indian Hills to the win.

Indian Hills improves to 9-1 vs. teams from the state of Texas at the national tournament and are now 3-0 all-time vs. Odessa. The Warriors previously defeated the Wranglers at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in 1997 and 1993. The Warriors are now 3-1 all-time in overtime games at the national tournament.

Indian Hills will now turn its attention to the Raiders of Northwest Florida State, a team the Warriors beat at the Hellyer Center on November 16 in a matchup of the No. 1 vs. No. 2 ranked teams in the nation at the team. The Warriors with a 108-99 victory, tied for Indian Hills' most points in a game this year.

Northwest Florida State, the defending national champions, defeated No. 10 Butler 71-59 before upending Vincennes 68-55 to advance to the final four. On the other side of the bracket sits No. 1 seed John A. Logan (IL) and No. 12 Tallahassee Community College (FL).

Tip-off for the Warriors and Raiders is set for 7:00 PM from the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

🏀 NJCAA Tourney: Historic rally sends Indian Hills into the semi-finals

HUTCHINSON, Kan.—The turnaround season for the Midland College men’s basketball team came to an end on Thursday after a loss in the NJCAA National Tournament quarterfinals at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kansas.

No. 1 John A. Logan, out of Illinois, went 6 for 6 from the free-throw line down the stretch to hold off the No. 8-seed Chaparrals, 74-70.

The Chaparrals ended the season with a 28-7 record in head coach Tra Arnold’s first season in Midland. Not only did the Chaps improve their win total by 16 games from the year before but were making their first postseason appearance and national tournament appearance since the national runner-up 2011 season.

Arnold said he was focused so much on this tournament that he hasn’t had much time to reflect on the season, but said that his team had a lot to be proud of what they accomplished.

“These guys have worked hard since August. I’m proud of the guys,” Arnold said. “This season was this team’s journey and it showed them what could happen next year. I think we’ll be in these kind of situations many times going forward.

“We’re a little down right now and I’m thinking about what else I could have done. But I am proud of the everything these players gave for our college and our community.”

The Chaps recovered from a tough start as they were down by as many as 16 points (23-7) midway through the first half before going on a 20-10 run to get back in the game and eventually pulled to within 39-35 at the intermission.

Arnold said he wasn’t surprised to see his team get back in the game.

“Anybody who has seen us play, knows how tough we play how hard we fight,” Arnold said. “I knew we would get back in it, I just didn’t know at what point.”

MC continued to battle back in the second half and eventually to its first lead of the game, 49-48, on a dunk by Brison Waller with 9:40 remaining.

MC’s biggest lead was 54-50 after a Christian Villegas layup.

The game was tied at 59-all after a free throw by MC’s Keonte Jones, but the Vols (31-2) answered with a 3-pointer by Isaiah Stafford and John A. Logan never relinquished the lead.

“We just didn’t have quite enough,” Arnold said. “At this time of year it’s about players making shots and making plays, and we didn’t make enough plays to win.”

Doug Young and Trent Johnson each had 20 points, Jones had 12 and Christian Villegas added 11 for the Chaps.

James Dent led the Vols with 20 points, Quimari Peterson had 16, Stafford added 12, Curt Lewis chipped in with 11.

John A. Logan will next face either Dodge City or Tallahassee in the semifinal round at 5 p.m. Friday,

With three seconds on the clock, Davis was forced to take an unbalanced three-point shot from the right wing. The whistle blew for a foul on Salt Lake's Hunter Erickson as the ball simultaneously crashed through the net, tying the game at 93.
